"I think we have to go and see twenty three right off. The top. I manage just told me that she read a thorough examination of the announcements made at this this weekend event. How are you feeling. Are you excited about the disney plus era upon us yeah but you have to do this. Julia minoshe from nonfiction chris farley watched non-fiction. You can just look blog. I clarified clarifying. I i think for disney and for me <hes> possibly in different ways you know disney has a strong brand as we know and it is quite articulate clearly articulated ticketed in this and i think that there will be many people including parents and star wars fans who have end marvel fans watch look forward to and i will be sending ending my streaming money elsewhere very interesting not surprising take from chris you are the coast of a podcast called the watch a long running podcast a hot. It looks closely a culture at large but particularly television a lot of t._v. Shows and disney plus. Here's my take on them. Don't care. I'd like to talk to you guys about the movies that were announced cheshire. Okay aside from the mandatory and i do care about this. Say which i care about all the there are two more stories memories t._v. shows. I'm sorry yet theoretically the mental learn is the only thing i have a clear percents of what it is and what it's going to be which actually does feel like the star wars show that we should have had like twenty five years ago very like <hes> grounded in the dirt small character look as opposed to the intergalactic battle kind of t._v. Show the other shows. I don't even know what are those shows. Isn't there a urine mcgregor. Obi obi wan the whole thing right. I think he's lovie wine. Even as i was saying it out loud i was like oh got him getting the names right. Am i getting the names right. Have you guys like a mandate. We're going to do a star wars episode so you should host and she she has ever told you. The story of this is a fun game to play. If you're like in a car and really board is you can ask you just tell you the plot of a movie a husband and i do this sometime and we maybe we should just do a podcast sometimes because it's really wild what people remember but famously i was asked to do the plot of star wars and i gave the entire plot with like intense analysis of the sexual tension between luke and leia and then also hans solo and the trash chute and all this stuff and just like did not mention the desktop the sexual tension between hansel and the trash chute. We are in russian. Oh yeah and i even got but at no point. Did i mention like the death star them blowing it up like the central plot of the movie just didn't exist in my brain spoiler. Sorry we have revealed views here officially that the death star is destroyed and star wars a new hope very sorry to everybody who hasn't seen episode four chris. Would you make the movie news non non non star wars edition so we got some moral news. We got a little look at the lady and the tramp live action yeah so for most of my life. Disney has been like a non factor <hes> it was a i never really grew up in disney household and a lot of these <hes> sort of legacy titles. Don't really mean a lot to me. I don't even know if i actually seen bambi like for instance. <hes> so a seminal event in movie history interesting to have the doorway into disney is marvel and star wars for me but now being introduced to this huge volume play and that that is kinda gonna come attendant with all this stuff and one of the things that we probably talk about when we get into the summer movie awards. That's been kind of confusing for me. This summer is having take things like aladdin seriously. You've been doing that no but it's like that takes up a lot of airspace. Have you seen either aladdin no yeah so you're not taking taking it serious. Oh i'm not taking it seriously but wouldn't you say that it plays a larger role in like pop culture in general because of the like the volume of the megaphone is that much louder pre everything builds everything else and now you've got these three things that disney legacy titles marvel and star wars say nothing of pixar and everything else that take up. I mean this is what you're saying a stranglehold on your brain. It's like sixty five percent of the airwaves man. It's true although in nineteen ninety-two aladdin was a big deal to so if you were hosting the watch which i don't know what would it have been call one thousand nine hundred smells like teen spirit yeah exactly if you were hosting smells like teen spirit the podcast you can get out of your windows media player six days to download it would still be forced to talk about and in some form or fashion but you're right the the the amount of mindshare that they have right now obviously is overwhelming and this is. I mentioned this biennial event. It doesn't happen every year the fact that it happened at this exact time while we're going through a me when wesley just had this conversation last week on the show we were like we are being choked out. You know brock listener has come to choke out with content. You guys get that referenced. I it's about wrestling. It's he wasn't in fighting with my family to today. Thank you to too much time on this podcast. I it is interesting like i could not help but see the announcement black panther too and just how far away that is. We are a thousand days away from black panther too. That's a long time. It's a it's become a cliche to say. We're all gonna be dead by then or the world will be on fire but it's possible that some things are significantly different culture at large a thousand days from now. We may not even have t._v.'s in one thousand days i don't. I don't know what's coming so to be planning that far ahead for something thing particularly something that is so anticipated yeah. I thought it was so strange. I thought it was almost like teasing away. That's funny because i had the opposite reaction which she's like this thing that we have been predicting for a long time which is disney as monopoly is here the this we have seen the realignment of the studios and the streaming services and kind of what the big names are going to be and we have been like well disney's just going to own everything and disney will have this movie and disney will have the streaming service and the men were in all of this i._p. And this was just the confirmation a certainty of okay they have consolidated. All of the i._t. Is together they have their distribution plan ready and disney plus and what what we expected to happen is going to happen and i have an easier time imagining how black panther too is going to fit into entertainment as we consume consumer than i do like basically any movie that a traditional movie studio is releasing or even most of the t._v. Shows on basic cable at this point but i think that the interesting thing that came out of some of these announcements between black panther being nine hundred days away and spider man being excommunicated from the is that there are a lot of people waiting on line. You know what i mean to get in to get their big screen time. There's a lotta characters. There's a lot of filmmakers producers who are all like so. This was a a huge hit and we've got to wait like four years and my guys gotta be in like a couple of thirty seconds spots and post credit sequences of the internals. That's you're telling me it's like that. I'm not single. Black panther would walk away from you. I don't think he michael jordan's. Not gonna get did going to do that but the spiderman thing i thought was indicative of indicative of so he being like let's go let's. Let's do another one most definitely but i think it's because while i think what you're saying is right that the playing field is kind of settled in a way that it's at least for the next next six to twelve months is going to be disney versus net flicks and then h._b._o. Max will come along and then you know. Universal will clarify what they're plays for the most part we we know what the short-term clarity around things but three years from now. I don't know if there's going to movie theaters close three years from now. I don't know if we will have have forty five hundred movie screens three years from now so getting that far ahead of ourselves. I think you're right chris that there's a desire to kind of plant flags. There's there has been mark. Harris has been writing about about this for coming up on ten years. Now this sort of like we plant our flag on a film that we don't even know what it is seven years ahead of time black panther too in particular those struck me as weird because it might be after the rise of skywalker. Maybe avatar to the most anticipated movie that exists that we're aware of world is that i am. I overstating it to say that will add. I think the avatar to is a good example. I mean not that. It's going to go black panthers. The wait between black panther one and two is nothing nothing resembling avatar in avatar too but it is indicative the fact that i think that like without seeing a single piece of footage. I think a lot of people are like. Does anybody still care about avatar. I was gonna ask coup is anticipating. I've talked to you besides get mine. I don't now i don't know but underestimate james cameron at your peril because this is what happened with titanic and this is what happened with avatar people were like is this going to be good. I don't know if i care about this and then boom biggest movie of all time and then biggest movie of all time twice he did that twice. People were like i don't know he lost his fastball. He's a weirdo. He loves to play with his toys doesn't understand humanity so i i wouldn't underestimate cameron trouncing

"Not during a scene with her finish said later, my new I was acting, but my heart didn't and my body. Certainly didn't I won't discuss it more because of the degree of intimacy involved. That was Finney the chemistry between the two is unmistakable Harris writes, and perhaps at its most powerful during the scenes when you're wondering whether Mark and Joanna should stay together at all a counter to your point about the Manzini score. He says, Don and gives their dilemma a great glossy coat from the gorgeous animated opening credits by 007 genius MAURICE binder to what may be the most melancholy romantic theme, Henry Mancini ever composed and then on its poignancy. He says undone in steady hand to for the road. Does what only a Hollywood movie can do it convince you to beautiful movie stars tooling through France and car are just like us. It's everybody's marriage. That's on trial in this film. If you've ever failed to let a fight go or said one thing too many or kept silent rather than apologize. You're likely to recognize a bit of yourself in the shards of the Wallace's the point about how they're just like us the scene that I think does that. So well is when they are forced to stay in the chichi hotel and have to kind of dodge around the fact that they can't afford to tell the restaurant. I mean, those charged for it is just a great secret. So fun so two for the road, my choice. Maybe Mark Harris's choice. If indeed he was participating in the marathon Thanos pick. I know it's not your choice though, Josh. And you know, what it's also not the choice of another guest. We have teased at last week that my daughter Sophie has been watching all of these films with me the first film finding marathon any of my children have fully participated in. And she wanted to play along and weigh in with her choice for best picture. I'm Sophie Manar in my awards for best picture goes to funny face. I was sucked in soon as the bundle of pink fabric hits the camera during the opening number it sets the tone for the whole movie fun wins ical, vibrant that. Coupled with an excellent performance from Audrey Hepburn led to experience where to quote, my dad. I couldn't wait to rewatch it as I was watching it. So there's my daughter quoting me quoting same van Haldeman? But that's fine. We'll go with it all goes round and round. Well, I knew Sophie was sharp. But this seals the deal. I mean, she she got the pick. Right. Funny faces the best picture of this marathon. I'll admit I probably enjoyed charade as much while watching it. But I think for me funny face has those musical production numbers that just are going to put it over the top. If you're comparing the two not only what I've already mentioned in these awards, but how about on how to be lovely that satirical, duet with Hepburn and Kate Thomson. I think that one really is crucial because it undercuts some of the movies fashion fascination that that they got into labout. That's great. Irene George Gershwin's. He loves and she loves I don't think we talked about this when we reviewed it at all. But this is where Hepburn an Astaire are at an. Outdoor wedding photo shoot. And they dance their way across a stream by lightly stepping onto a floating raft. I mean, here's another almost over the top Don touch could have been a pick for physio seen as well. So funny face. It's just stuffed with production numbers. Most of them quite delightful. Domine, of course, will forever be known for co directing singing in the rain. But I do think funny face has deserves a place in the top tier musicals conversation. Well, it's my runner up certainly for this marathon film. I did enjoy and has so many of those great done in moments. And touches that's our marathon. Are thanks again to Sophie to Nathaniel, of course, for all of his insights and launching all of these conversations. We hope you enjoyed this marathon whether you were following along or not and able to watch every film, we do have another marathon coming up. We don't have the date set exactly for when it will commence, but we're going to take a look at the work of Josef von Sternberg and Marlene Dietrich that collaboration. You can find. Commissioner Stony rushing who spoke with WBZ's Pat mccrory show about the endorsements is incredible. He did that for for me. And you know, we we had no plans on doing this. And and we're willing to take up five rushing says he has a strong base in Union County, along with connections in bladen and Robertson counties as for Mecklenburg county. New Election Ordered in North Carolina Race at Center of Fraud Inquiry

"According to MBC news. This is the first time in US history that anew election has been called for a federal office because of election fraud that with Jimmy Williams and joining us Judd leg author and founder of popular dot info. And judd. This is pretty extraordinary because Mark Harris was defending himself all the way to the end. Their point appointed, which it wasn't clear even knew McRae. Dallas the person who perpetrated these frauds, and then his son got up on the stand. It all change. What happens now is he likely to run what happens, and is there going to be any remedy against him for this frog? I think he's very unlikely to run. And here's why there were his sons testimony you played a clip. It was extremely compelling and dramatic, and essentially he breaks down the idea that Harris had been talking about since the election that he didn't know anything about Dallas. Or the fact that Dallas was involved in legal activities because I was warning him not just for weeks. But for years that Dallas was trouble. But the real problem, and the reason why I think he may not run again is that he was also exposed the fact that he did not turn over to the investigators the emails that establish these conversations with his sons, and then was lying on the state under cross examination from the lawyer representing the democratic candidate, Dan McCreevy that he had told his younger son that he didn't expect those emails to come up, so sort of know ille- withholding information from the investigators. So I think the combination. Of all that it just looks too bad for him. I don't think Harris will run, although he hasn't indicated definitively their way.

"However now, we have twenty nineteen election to tell you about and it is a big deal yesterday the North Carolina State board of elections called a new contest in a congressional race. That has been rocked by accusations of fraud. I'm Scott detro-. I cover congress. I'm Kelsey Snell. I also cover congress. I'm miles parks. I cover voting it miles. You are in North Carolina. You've been there all week it has only gotten crazier here. Yeah. And there is a whole lot of crazy to sift through ending with the fact that the board of elections called a new a new contest. But let's just start back at the beginning. Kelsey, can you catch us up to speed on what this district was and going into election day, why we were already paying attention to. So this is. Publican district on your Charlotte, which is one of the biggest cities in the state of North Carolina. And I was down in North Carolina in a neighboring district right before the election talking to Republicans about just kind of politics in the state in general, and they were all really worried about this race in particular because they thought the Republican who Mark Harris was maybe too far to the right for a city that was changing dramatically, and they thought there was a really good chance that Democrats could win this seat. And then they didn't but Harissa after election day has a slim lead about nine hundred votes. What happens next? So what happens next is the state board of elections comes together to certify all the races in the state. They certify most of them. And then we come to the ninth congressional district, and they decide not to certify it. They vote instead to open up an investigation into allegations of election fraud. So then over the last couple of months state board. Investigators have been interviewing witnesses hundreds of people. Voters people who say that they were involved in. What is now coming out to be an absentee ballots scheme, which seems to have been connected in some way to Republican Mark Harris's campaign. So and this isn't just a general problem at eight has to do with one specific Republican consultant, can you walk us through. What who he is what he was doing? And what the problem was. Right. So his name is Leslie McRae Dallas, he goes by McCray. He has been involved in politics in a place called bladen county, which is the east in the eastern part of the ninth district for many years, Mark Harris approached McRae Dallas because he'd heard about this absentee ballot campaign that Dallas had been running for other candidates in previous elections, basically. Now, what it looks like is that McRae Dallas was paying up people to collect ballots, which is illegal in North Carolina. And there are still a lot of questions about whether Dallas turned in all of the ballots. He collected one employee of. Alice's? Who's also his former stepdaughter testified on the first day of the hearing earlier this week that she also filled in some ballots for voters who turned in their ballots blank to her which is also a legal. Hey miles. Can I ask is it illegal to be paying somebody to collect the absentee ballots? Are are they saying that just collecting them in general was the legal part so collecting them in general is the illegal part? What's really interesting here is voting laws are different all over the country vote collecting ballots is not a legal and a lot of states, including largest state in the country, California. But in a place like North Carolina. It is illegal to collect ballots. And so the fact that potentially somebody who was being paid. By marketers campaign was doing it. There's the question of taint on the election because somebody one of the candidates could have had an unfair advantage in the absentee ballot totals. And before we get to this dramatic hearing that's been taking place the last few days. What was the tip off that something might have been wrong? Was it was it disproportionate result? It's from absentee ballots was just the fact that that this guy had a track record for doing this in previous elections what what caused investigators and election officials to to focus on this to begin with. So it's a little bit of both state. Investigators had investigated Dallas previously specifically in twenty sixteen though that investigation did not end up affecting in actual race..

North Carolina Republican's son says warned father about operative's past

"North Carolina State board of elections. Just finished a three of a public hearing that it's trying to get to the bottom of what happened in the states ninth congressional district last year the outcome of that race still hasn't been called state. Election officials accuse a political operative named McRae. Dallas of running an illegal scheme to collect absentee ballots. He was working for the Republican candidate Mark Harris in what was very tight race NPR's miles parks has been at all three days of this hearing, and he joins us now. Hi miles. So understand today's session revealed tensions within Harris's family over the decision to hire. Dallas. What happened? Yeah. We heard some pretty compelling testimony from Harris's son, John Harris, who's actually an assistant US attorney in North Carolina. He testified that he had looked at previous election results from two thousand sixteen and noticed a disturbing pattern of results based on somebody who is hiring this political operative this McRae. Dallas basically he saw public records. That indicated ballots were being returned for this candidate in batches leading him to. Believe that somebody in bladen county where this investigation is centered somebody there was collecting ballots, which is a legal. So then his father in two thousand seventeen comes in and says he's thinking about hiring McRae, Dallas. And he really has an issue with that investigators show an Email where he even forwarded the North Carolina statute that said collecting ballots is a legal North Carolina to his father. What have we learned about this scheme that investigators say Dallas was running? So for the past three days. Former employees of Dallas described how they collected ballots and one employee even said she filled in multiple ballots down ballot races, which is a legal North Carolina. Again, it's illegal even just to collect ballots, North Carolina. They also described how they were instructed different ways to make sure that state and local officials. I didn't get any red flags about the operation, and the consultant who paid Dallas his name's Andy Yates, he said a number of times that he didn't have any warning signs about Dallas. That's even though the state investigated, Dallas and. Thousand sixteen and there were a number of. News reports about that investigation. Harris said that he knew of no illegal activity on behalf of his campaign. So what does today's testimony mean in light of that? Well, he can't really say anymore that he was not warned. Here's how his son John Harris put it I raised red flags at the time. The decision was made to hires Dallas. That's what I did. But he also says he thinks McRae. Dallas lied to his father about what he was doing to get out the votes. Andy Yates, testified that doubts that he was only registering people that he wasn't collecting ballots. John Harris says that he thinks his parents believe McRae Dallas, and he did not. He says also added at the end of his testimony that his father did things in his campaign differently than he would have these hearings were initially scheduled to just last two days. This was three that just wrapped up in. It seems like there's more left to uncover. How long do you think this is gonna last and how long before voters in the ninth district has a member of congress to represent them? So at this point if definitely looks that this could like this could last the the rest of the week if not longer we still haven't heard from Mark Harris, he's set to testify tomorrow morning. And his campaign says he is very ready and eager to do that. If the state board they're going to vote at the end of this hearing, whether or not to hold a new election order certify, Harris, if they decide to hold a new election that process could take months North Carolina ninth district voters in North Carolina's ninth district could be looking at not having representation in the house until late summer early. North Carolina election fraud hearing begins

"For the very first time. We finally have official factual findings in the crazy case of potential election fraud in North Carolina's ninth congressional district. You might remember more than three months after election day. They finally began the state election board hearing today, and it is extremely damning for the campaign of Republican Mark Harris. Here's how the executive director of the North Carolina State board of elections laid it all out. We we were by day show than a coordinated unlawful ace essentially resource as now the scheme operated, eighteen Lashin Laden, Dan Ross. State investigators found at least one thousand ballots were illegally requested by a man named McRae. "Still doesn't have representation you'll remember the Republican Mark Harris appeared to beat the democratic candidate, Dan McCreevy by just over nine hundred votes. But allegations that Republican supporter filled out mail in ballots for voters prompted the state board of elections to launch an investigation that board is meeting right now to hear evidence of this alleged ballot tampering and to decide whether to trigger a whole new election. Rusty Jacobs is politics reporter for WNYC. He stepped out of that hearing with his phone and rusty the Republican Mark Harris as you will know one sixty one percent of mail in ballot votes in bladen county, North Carolina despite only nineteen percent of those voters being registered Republican suspicious. Yes. But what's the evidence? Evidence. The board is the executive director overseeing the investigation that then underway says they'll they will show that there was an orchestrated campaign by this operative McRae. Dallas who's here today for this hearing working for the Harris campaign sends workers out harvest but collect absence about request forms. Then could go back out to the people who requested those points to get the actual absentee ballots. And then to even in some cases, falsify information, and we've already heard from Lisa grit. Who's one time stepdaughter McRae? Dallas was mother was once married to him and still is close to him and said that she didn't need many cases signed the witness boxes on these absentee ballots when she did not actually witness information being inserted and delivered those ethnic ballots to McRae Dallas events as they bought, but that's violation of state law curious, well, the hearing could go on for as long as three days and North Carolina law gives the elections board. The power to trigger a new election. If they find that irregularities in proprieties have occurred. We we've heard some allegations. They also could say that, you know, the Republican Mark Harris with nine hundred votes despite the alleged bear ballot tampering is the winner. So what will happen you? What's your sense of what will happen? Well, this is the last thing you said, I mean, that's exactly what Republican party members Republican party officials are saying say, look, even if there's some wrongdoing here, it has to be just about nine hundred five votes or more that were bought by it has in other words, that's the precise number that could actually reverse the outcome on the other hand the law and Democrats say that know, what you need is a tenth of wrongly enough undermine the reliability or the competence of of of wrongdoing in this particular election. So whether it's a painter precise number. That's the debate. That's going to be the board that decide the the board couldn't up in a kind of a deadlock. We're in other words, it's five number three Democrats to publicans three Democrats decided no, we are not certifying. My parents the two Republicans could say we would certify what you mean on a supermajority you one Republican during the Democrats to call new elections. So we could be dead. Block with his no certification. But no, no election. Ultimately house has started to jump in here and take over the investigation and decide on their own whether it's and it's a democrat critically controlled house of representatives now, which might refuse also to more Karen while the voters.

"News talk ten ninety nine three WBZ's where we lead Rally today for the big court hearing where North Carolina judge said really no rules. No, no grounds to step in and declare victory for the Republicans in the ninth that you'll have to let all that take its proper course in new elections board forums and ten days and all that stuff so alive from the WBZ news vet on his way. Wave back for morality is our own Brad Johnson. You were at the hearing today. How much did the actual lawyering take before the judge finally said, no, I'm not getting involved with this pretty much a fairly decent amount of the hearing started at ten AM like on the dot promptly. And at the very beginning. He said look said I've got jury selection for a capital murder case starting at one o'clock this has to be done by one o'clock. And so the lowering started they took like our five minute recess came back more lawyering. And he said, all right. I will render my decision or I'll if I have a decision rendered in about twenty minutes. And if I don't I'll tell you that I'm not going to have a decision that I'll take it under advisement, and then approximately around twelve thirty so about two and a half to four hours of lawyering and. Then about two thirty or so they came out and said, yeah, there's there's no reason for us to get into the middle of this. Because we believe that the state board of elections did everything right by we believe it to be an actual protests. That was the argument all argument about this entire court case was there. Mark Harris aside was saying look, no official protest was filed within ten days of the election, therefore by state law. This race should be certified. And the judge said, no, it is our belief that by under these guidelines in these statutes that a an actual protest was launched by the state board of elections of the election. And therefore this election will be certified if and when the investigation into possible election fraud is over and not until not a second sooner. So like, John like, we're talking this could be like, I'm being sincere when I say, this that ninth seat may not be filled that person may not be sitting in Washington, regardless of who it is if they have another election until November next next November like it may take that long until that position is filled. The GOP was just saying last week that there was I think they used the term no evidence that. Harris improperly won that race. So that's a little bit different than than how you just stated. It is that how David Friedman is is Harris's lawyer. Or was today is is. So he didn't go in and say there's no evidence today. No, one of his one of the lawyers though there with so the hairs campaign had five lawyers and the Democrats had nine lawyers. And and so, but one of the lawyers the first person to speak, Alex, Dale got up there and said, there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that any bad things took place. There's there's fifth thirteen affidavits saying of a possible election fraud, but of the thirteen eleven of them actually voted in person. So we're down to two possible bad ballots in bladen county. And that's what we're holding. This whole thing up for there's zero evidence that any of this bad stuff took place. And so they actually said that like there's zero evidence that any of this took place. And you know, they they threw Damocles campaign under the bus a little bit. And then damage, and then the state board of elections lawyer got up there part of the attorney general's office. And and and basically he called the entire court off guard when he said, we don't know what kind of evidence there is we don't know for him to say, there's no evidence we don't know what kind of evidence there is. And then about twenty minutes later, he said, but you know, I've seen enough that we think that this election could actually be turned around that there's enough votes and that caught everyone off guard because twenty minutes ago, he said he hasn't seen anything the twenty minutes later. It's going. Yeah. There's there's a pro there's enough evidence that a lot of these votes could actually sway the election. So that was that was rather interesting. They'll sit a new board on the thirty first that'll be those are names that have been divulged yet. None of anybody. That knows those those will be named by the governor three Democrats to Republicans, and you kinda. Made reference to a little bit earlier, but do timetable from that point is this their first order of business, or do we know that we don't know that because we don't know who the the actual board will be I mean, you could assume, but we all know the old adage, we know what happens when you assume, but. They should be this should be their top priority because the investigation has actually been ongoing even without an aboard. There's actually this investigation is still going on people are still being subpoenaed and so forth. They just can't have any of their evidentiary hearings until January thirty first at the earliest, but many people think it will be much much. You know, it'd be much longer after that. So I mean, this is going to be this. This could seriously drag on for quite a while you thought this election was over in November. It may be next November. We used to seeing stuff like this happen in Florida. I'm not so sure that we like the and the the the center of attention on voting in proprieties, you do you talked about the investigation. I don't know if this is probably an unfair question to ask you. But can that investigation. Go back to two thousand sixteen go back to previous elections because there's allegations that they didn't county this has been going on for a while. No, it can't it's only under this specific election. And the reason is now it doesn't mean that they can't reopen that investigation and file federal charges or whatever. But in terms of elections. This is the the the state board of investigators. They're only looking into this specific election, and then on top of that stuff, and blatant and Robertson counties. Now, see, you know, with what Mark garrison reported a few weeks ago and everything else now they're talking about. Hey, we're probably going to have to look into what's going on in Mecklenburg county. Yeah. Interesting. One more question not related to this. At all. Have you ever been sucked into watching roadhouse? Roadhouse. Oh, you mean with Patrick Swayze? Yes. Yeah. When it first came out when it was on HBO, you know, how they come out like a year after they're in the movies on HBO. It was that's what I that's what I saw it. And then I think I saw it like eight years later not ten years later on like TNT, and I swore I would never watch it again. Yeah. Me too. And it was on last night. I watched the whole damn thing. Did you did you did you have to take a couple of showers? They get that state. I mean, I knew what was going to happen to Sam Elliott in the end of that still watched it. I like Sam Elliott. So I I actually like Sam Elliott, I agree with you there. I like Somalia, and I enjoyed seeing Zara die. So I haven't ruined the ending for anybody. But if I have where the hell have you been for less? Spoiler alert. Be careful with the news, vet and knowledge when you get back. Thanks Brad Johnson on his way back from Raleigh. "But the judges that made that declaration then said that the investigation into vote tampering could continue and then in December they dissolve the board a new board is starting at the end of this month. I think January thirty first so what is Mark Harris the Republican arguing? He's arguing that the board acted in in a partisan way, and is essentially trying to delay his certification and being seeded as a congressman representing the ninth district. The attorney general deputy attorney general representing the state board of elections today pointed out that two of the Republicans on what was then a bipartisan bore was nine members four Democrats or Republicans want unaffiliated to the Republicans joined the final vote not to certify to Harris victory. So that cuts into the argument that this is a partisan effort to keep more carrots and taking his seat McCreevy saying the democrat. That's why the judge allow Dan McCreevy's attorney Marc Elias to intervene in this case. It is essentially a case between Mark Harris, the Republican and the state board of elections, but Creedy is intervening. And he's essentially saying that the the court doesn't. Have jurisdiction. There is an argument by marquesses team Zad door statutory timelines in place when a when a formal petition is filed and they're saying actually, they've acquitting never filed a formal petition. And that all the tapping there is a state board of elections investigation that doesn't form a petition? So by now under the statutory framework certification should have been issued. But McCreevy's attorneys saying the Mark Harris team wants to prematurely end, a fact-finding Judah Katori process that will play out once a new board is appointed after this law takes effect, January thirty first and the investigation and the evidence you're hearing be hill. Even if the judges there in the course, they were leaning towards saying Marquez, you know, you're right. This is taking too long. You should be seated Democrats this month took control of the house and they're saying they won't seat Harris without an investigation into these allegations. And that they. May even have their own investigation. Despite what a state elections board the newly formed one in the end of the month does. So can they do that? Can they if the state decides one thing can they stop it? Well, that is a key argument of the attorney general representing the state would have election saying, look, this is all going to end up being a mood anyway because the US house under its own is going to require a complete investigation before cedar. Mark Harrison fact, just before all this happened before Mark Harris filed his motion of they call the rid of Mandela's asking the court to order the certification. They said the US house reached out to the state board of elections to please, preserve all your investigative materials. All your records, turn them over to us. So yes, that that is an argument that that Democrats and at the state board of elections is making even if the court wanted to intervene, the US house is not going to see Marchetti that basically the new board is going to get planted within ten days this investigated and evidence you're hearing can be held it should be played out rusty Jacobs their WNYC politics reporter. "Weather tonight, clear lows in the thirties and forties is still on the chilly tomorrow. It'll be sunny with highs in the low to mid sixties couple of temps for you right now. Sixty in Pasadena, sixty two Rancho Cucamonga at five twenty. From NPR news. This is all things considered. I'm Audie Cornish. And I'm Mary Louise Kelley one chair will be empty tomorrow as the clerk in the house of representatives gavels in a new session. That chair belongs to whoever represents North Carolina's ninth district problem is coming up on two months after the November election. We still don't know who that is the election was held, but there were of election fraud, prompting the state elections board to investigate. But that board was dissolved. We'll to get us up to speed on. What is happening in North Carolina. We're joined by Joe Bruno. He's a reporter with w SETV in Charlotte. Hey there Joe. Hey there. So to set the stage here the Republican candidate Mark Harris seemed to have one in November by nine hundred five votes as I mentioned there were these allegations of election fraud and questions about mail-in ballots. A big investigation was underway. What is the state of that investigation? Now. Right now, the investigation really is a no-man's-land because of a court ruling to dissolve the state board of elections as of right now, there are no board members than that impacts the investigation dramatically because subpoenas issued among other things then there will be no board members to sit on an evidentiary hearing scheduled for January eleventh next week. So what the governor has said is he's going to appoint an interim board of elections that will serve until the end of the month. When a new law that was enacted by the general assembly takes place, which reforms the board of elections. Okay. And we should know the board was dissolved for unrelated reasons. Right. This had been in the works. For awhile there'd been litigation involving questions about the makeup of that board will set that bit aside for now. But this hearing that they were supposed to have held on January eleventh, you're saying that it's possible. It could still go ahead. It's possible that this meeting could still be held the new board of elections would be composed of five members three Democrats to Republicans Republicans have said, they don't want anything to do with the sport. They don't think governor Cooper has the legal right to form the sport. So they are refusing to participate in it, the governor can still appoint three Democrats and have quorum for the meeting. The problem is it takes a fourth person in order for a new election to be called. So it's possible that we could have this hearing on the eleven for all the evidence is laid out. But then no action is taken. I mean, this sounds just like complete chaos have you ever covered anything like this. Now, this is complete chaos, and it changes every day and seems like every hour to be honest with you, and then it's possible that the US house could take the findings of whatever the state board determines and incorporate it into whatever decision they make because the US house has the authority to vacate the sea and order a new primary in new election. So it's possible that the state board of elections doesn't order the new election, but the US house, then goes ahead. And does it is that sounding increasingly like a possibility we have the incoming majority leader Steny Hoyer saying that Mark Harris will not be seated and the concerns about the seat being vacant are not as heavy as the fact that there was potentially election fraud, rampant throughout Blaine, and Robertson counties. So it sounds like the incoming. Democratic leadership team is certainly trending toward their being a new election. But again, this is an easy thing. This isn't just a simple. Let's order a new election, and they're going to have to make sure they investigate this. And it's no easy task. And I'm sure it's no easy decision for them to come to that conclusion. And meanwhile, what are these two candidates and their camps saying either marquess on the Republican side or Dan mccready, his democratic rival Mark Harris is demanding certification. He still is holding out hope that he will be sworn in as a member of the one hundred sixteenth congress damage Creedy on the other hand is preparing for the possibility of a new election team McCreevy has been sending out a at least one or two emails a day to potential donors. They're already raising money. Whereas the Harris team is still holding on to hope that a new election will not be needed jober. No, a very busy political reporter with w s. Tv in Charlotte. I literally just kidnapped him. I said I'll keep you for one minute Muggsy Bogues. Hey, how you doing? You know, what I gotta I gotta tell you something. I was always afraid you were going to run against me for mayor. Because you could have won. I won election seven times as mayor, and the political operatives always said, you know, you can win again, I said as long as Muggsy Bogues doesn't run were you ain't got to worry about me in the political. Why is that you could run for you could run for any political office any party right now in win in this area? Because you're one of the few athletes has kept your popularity for so long because I love my privacy. That's why you'll be an elective office. Absolutely. But I love Charlotte. Movie Review: “Green Book”

"Which I said, let's see I'm looking up here. I said I watched green book, and it was about a white racist who teaches a black guy how to be more black and how we'd all be better off racists in the victims of racism, just got along. Better your enjoyment of the film will likely depend on your receptiveness that message. And I literally thought I think I'm only my leagues agitating. When I literally thought I was just stating the text of the film like that. That is what I thought the movie was trying to. Say a lot of people were like criticizing me being like, you know. That's super harsh. Dave. And I'm like that is what the movie is like it's Viggo Mortensen plays a racist. There. Mercia Lally plays a black pianist going through Jim crow, south touring and and being subject to racism and the to kind of teach each other. Better understanding if humanity, and I think Mark Harris did a great job of running down like what's wrong with movies like green book, which they feel like they are out of I dunno late eighties early nineties. Right. This kind of by this. This type driving. Exactly, right. The like driving miss daisy. Both sides have something to contribute to the conversation. Like, oh, like like, look at how much we all have to learn from each other. You know, like. I'm sure I can imagine somebody who was big in Hollywood in that period. Looks at this way. Now now, the white guys driving him that's the movie, I know. And so it's not I mean, it's certainly I can understand why people find it to be an offensive film. And in fact, the the relatives of Dr Don Shirley have since come out and publicly denounced the movie, they have said like this movie contained they called it. A symphony of lies is what they said face like everything about the movie is that it is a gross misrepresentation of their relationship because like a big part of the movies about Dr Don, Shirley, the pianist and how he's like so disconnected with his family. And and he doesn't like he feels like a like an outsider to his own race. And it's it's Viggo Mortensen 's mildly racist character that helps them to reconnect with his like, it's all this stuff and his. The real life on Shirley families like well that never happened. None of that was true. But at least it was a symphony of lives. That's correct. The poster will say a symphony. No, I don't I don't know if they're gonna use that poco, Jeff. But in any case, I mean, yeah, it's so it's not even really that accurate and the story as it just it just feels like it's from a different era. Feels like we don't really need this kind of story anymore. We have other choices today about you know, how we've you these types. I mean. Yeah. There's there's a more diverse slate of filmmakers behind the camera. These days that can tell stories like this and from a different and more interesting perspective. So poignant views like, you know, more nuance point of us. I will say when I first saw the trailer for this. And I was like oh, my Herschel eilly. That's so that's interesting. This looks cool Vigo Mortenson and then Peter Farrelly. And I remember we talked about project greenlight a couple years ago. I will never forget how Peter fairly treated producer EFI Brown. And like, you know, she's a really well known and very prolific. Black producer. Yeah. And she's made a lot of stuff and Peter fairly would not show her any any instance of like respect or like there's just like a like subtle racism going on there.

"Unsealed ones. And then harvesting the ballots for Mark Harris, all of this corruption dishonesty was happening in the backdrop of the news surrounding the death of president George H W Bush who many Republicans are mourning as the last of a genial generation Ross do that in the New York Times even wrote that he missed being ruled by wasps gender. Republican party is longing for the days of old while simultaneously doing everything they can to undermine the will of voters was the Grenelle party. Great before Trump came along. They've always been so cool. Now, Dave always been bad, right? Like interest. The shame part of it. Trump made them be like, oh, we don't have to hide how shitty we are in our policies. Like try to pretend that we're good for poor people and minorities and women like we can just have. No shame about it. So they've always been bad. It's just Trump made them be like, oh, we don't even have to pretend we can just where dumb, ugly, red hats and be Astles majority. Thank you miss a rule by wasp wasp, Spock Crecy. Yeah. I mean as a self identified we'll ask. I miss the days when my neighbors know, my grew up surrounded by wasps, I don't like wasps. I'm scared of wasps. I don't miss them. And I think it's like I think it's gross that that article got written. I think it's gross that it got published. I think it is like people aren't even like thinly veiling their racism anymore. Yeah. In like, what is it? It's just that. There was like civility they were pretending that thing they weren't doing things to hurt people. And that's what people miss yet politeness. It's like the charming racist and said of the ugly. Exactly, I thought the Dow that column was not very good. But I actually think that there's a way in which he is diminishing the role that racism played in that patrician air and the power that had held. But even if you put that aside right because he would claim that that's not the argument. He was making. He was saying something else. Even if you put that aside, and I think you totally can right. I think he was minimizing something there is a deeper problem with that argument because George H W Bush empowered Roger Ailes he empowered really vicious people to do the campaigning for him. And what's interesting to me is almost as if repub-. Nations of that generation were given a choice, which is they could either allow a cosmopolitan America to expose them to the ways in which they were doing shameful things and change their behavior or they can choose to stop experiencing. Shame and just do the campaign tactics. They would have done anyway Hayes. Do you think Trump deserves credit for that shift to the shift in which they discover that shame removed as an obstacle? There actually aren't as many political consequences to this kind of bare knuckles behavior. What do you think? First of all, I thought he was a wasp. So this is news to me that Trump is not. A white Anglo-Saxon Protestant. But in terms of that shift. I think a lot of it comes back to actually the voter suppression stuff happening on the state level. This used to be a kind of thing that you could get away with because people weren't really paying attention. So if anything he made politics or new entertainment, people are paying more attention to this stuff all the time. I think if there's one good thing that came out of this presidency. People are walked in on just the normal rat fucking that you like you see all over the place like throughout history already happening and always happening. Yeah. Exactly. This is in collaboration. It is a new phenomenon to see Republican legislatures so brazenly saying like they used to do more of in advance of election right to make it harder for people to vote. Make it easier for their own people to vote disenfranchise people gerrymander all those things have been going on for very long time. But what we saw in North Carolina, which is being replicated in Wisconsin, which is being partially replicated in Michigan is idea of..

So their candidate was Dan, mccready, Marine Corps. Veteran small businessmen young clean cut. Really nice looking guy who ran against Mark Harris who made a big splash by taking out Robert pittenger, the Republican congressman in the may primary by in a real squeaker. And so this was really one that everyone was keeping an eye on in part because it included a lot of the Charlotte suburbs. Which is exactly the place where we expected and saw and a lot of twenty eighteen where Democrats were able to really make a new foothold. Okay. So you've you've set the scene we know the players now why is this race still undecided? And the state board of elections is investigating and some district attorneys, and possibly the US attorney looking into absentee ballots in some of the counties in this district. What's going on there? So this race, you know, unsurprisingly came down to a very slim margin as you said nine hundred five votes on election night, or or if you hours afterwards, Dan McCreevy, the democrat, conceded and. And it looks like Mark Harris was heading to congress, but the state board of election as you noted refuse to certify in late November this race in part noting concerns around irregularities, and in particular, citing absentee ballot collection in two particular rural counties, bladen county and Robeson county in North Carolina. And it's been a bit opaque from the state board of election. Terms of what actually was going on? There's been some really remarkable local reporting about what actually has happened bore finally in the last couple of days getting some real information about what happened here. But it started by the North Carolina Democratic Party filed half a dozen affidavit it's of voters in these two particular counties needs to rural counties who said that when they they had somebody come to their door asked for their absentee ballot. And they would fill it out or personally fill it out and return it to this person who promised to turn it in for them. And that's real really problematic because it's actually illegal in North Carolina. You can you can have someone who's a close family member or legal guardian. In your absentee ballot. But not anyone else. And you're not allowed to have anyone else. Fill out your ballot. No matter who they are. Exactly. Well, actually, I probably shouldn't go that far. I'm sure there are some folks who need help who who are allowed to get up. But the that that's like a big, no, no even in states where this so-called ballot harvesting other people turning them in his legal. Right. So so that's sort of where we started to get a sense of what was actually happening here. And then we had all kinds of people looking diving into a bit of these numbers and looking at these two he's made these two counties, and what sort of the irregularities they might have spotted here. And at the center of all of this is this pretty unsavory character at Leslie McRae. "Least by his campaign. He's not only breaking his silence. He is unconcealed ING the race. I should also tell you that while NBC news had previously called this race for McCreevy's Republican opponent marquess that official NBC. Call of the race has also now been rescinded according to NBC news. There is now. No call in this race. You've probably seen some of the news about this North Carolina controversy, what has emerged since election night in North Carolina is evidence pretty pretty broad daylight evidence of what appears to be a blatant criminals scheme in that district to rig the election for Republican, Mark Harris. And as Dan McGrady mentioned there and his unconsented video. It really does appear like his opponent Republican marquess might have paid for that criminal scheme. But here's the thing. That drives me nuts about this North Carolina story. This for me has been the single hardest thing to grasp about this story from the very beginning. From what I emerged that. There was something wrong with the result of that congressional race. When we first heard that the bipartisan election board locally was refusing to certify the results of that race. And they were saying that something was wrong with it from the very first moment as far as I'm concerned. The single craziest thing about this race. And what happened in this race is that this scheme here this criminal scheme here is apparently not a new thing. In that district specifically in a couple of counties in that district. This been going on for a while in basically plain sight. And I will prove it. Here's a story for you. As far as I'm concerned, the greatest radio show in the modern history of American radio shows is called this American life. It is hosted by IRA glass. If you do not listen to it as a podcast or via your computer. You've probably heard it on your local public radio station and two years ago at Christmas time, December twenty third in two thousand sixteen.

"I am withdrawing my concession to Mark Harris. And Furthermore, I call on Mark Harris to tell the American people. He's actually what he knew. And when he knew it and yet as far as I can tell not a peep from Paul Ryan or Marco Rubio or Donald Trump or any of the other many prominent Republicans who peddled baseless conspiracy theories about Democrats, stealing elections and voter fraud. What's worse as people like Paul Ryan out of their way to sew doubt with not a shred of evidence about the legitimate, California elections. The thing that Ryan hinted at did appear to have actually happened in North Carolina conducted on behalf of the candidate of his own party and to top it all off against the backdrop of the Republican campaign appearance caught red-handed engaging electoral fraud, the state GOP in North Carolina is rushing to pass a new voter ID law in the lame duck session before they lose their supermajority, even though the fraud that did happen, right? Right under the noses has literally nothing to do with the fictitious in-person version Republicans used as a pretext whole thing is a shameless spectacle, bad faith and assault by Republicans to the president down. I'm so in the most basic tenets democracy, they want to restrict voting rights make it harder to access polls create doubt about legitimate elections. And if all else fails, and they lose refuse to hand over powers, they leave office like they're doing in Michigan Wisconsin here with me. Now is Dallas Woodhouse the executive director of the North Carolina Republican party Dallas you saw dick McRae's call for a full accounting from Mark Harris about what he did. Or did not know don't you think everyone in North Carolina's owed that? I think everybody in North Carolina needs to know everything. And I have to tell you, Mr. Hayes. I mean, we are as horrified by the news reports as we've seen as anybody else. They are they are revolting. They are they are not what our activists are good people that working Cam pains the volunteers. This is not what they are about. They don't care who wins who loses. They don't care about budget policy. They just care about getting paid that that appears to be the case. I if that is the case, I do want to cite something you said in the days after the election where you said in a phone call. We are trying to keep Democrats from stealing the congressional race or marquess. Now, that's obviously incredibly loaded charge that you made do you want to apologize for that? Or take. Back. "Tonight's victory that we're here to celebrate is a result of your hard work and giving. I have to say look at that map tonight. Thank God for bladen in Union County. Thank God for blading in Union County, bladen county, keep that name in mind, as we go through the next couple of minutes here that man you just heard from Mark Harris Republican we had to clear to me at NBC news the decision desk, the winner in the race for North Carolina's ninth congressional district or Republican that would be a Republican whole Democrats had been targeting the seat. But guess what? There was a major development in the ninth district of North Carolina today, I wanna take you through exactly what is happening there. If I can find the night. I can't find it on the screen. My eiser are missing it here. Let's see if we can let's see if we can dig it up here. Hang on a minute. Let's. Where is the ninth district on my screen? I got I'm trying to find bear with me, folks. Because I. There. It is the ninth district in North Carolina. This is humiliating the ninth district in North Carolina. It's right there. What happened in the ninth district of North Carolina? Mark Harris, we have him declared the official winner here by nine hundred five votes. So that race was before the state board of elections today and North Carolina that was going to certify the election incen- Harris to congress the state board of elections decided not to certify today. Instead, they're going to have an evidentiary hearing sometime in the next few weeks the issue here in this district has to do with absentee ballots in a rural part the rural part of the district here the east this is blatant county. Mark Harris, you see he won bladen county by over fifteen hundred votes on election day key that margin, again nine hundred votes district wide big win there in blatant county will guess what happens when you start to take a look at the breakdown of vote here. This is the overall total in each county the district, but then you look at the absentee ballots the mail in absentee ballots in this district. And you see something interesting about. Leyton county. You see something you don't see in any other county in this district. He c Harris cleaned up on the absentee ballots and blatant county. Look everywhere else in the district. He was losing. And he was losing big when it came to absentee ballots in now there are affadavits that have emerged from voters voters who said they had absentee ballots in this district. Somebody came to their house to collect it somebody came in one case, according to the affidavit and said I will fill the rest of your ballot out for you took the ballot. So there are allegations here potentially of irregularities having to do with the absentee ballots. There were more absolutely belly greater share of the electorate in bladen county received absentee ballots than any other county in North Carolina. So the state board of elections again, which today had the option of certifying this election and ending it it declined to certify the election. Instead it's going to hear evidence about these issues with absentee ballots in this organization. This entity this. State board of elections. It has some real power here. It could if it wanted to if it decided to if it decided there was evidence to do this. It could throw out the election. It could call for a new election. It could invalidate Harris's victory. What we had been calling Harris his victory. That's a real consequence there, of course, if declined to do that congress is ultimately, the judge of its own elections, the Democratic Congress could ultimately decide who to seat here. So there's a couple of balls in the air now unexpectedly in this district again Democrats with that net gain of thirty nine seats right now, they could still get one in California this one maybe none off the board entirely for them coming up. The is for Alaska's biggest city may just be beginning. An update on the earthquake damage when the eleventh hour continues..

But lately, it's huge twenty billion dollar valuation is in doubt and privacy. Activists are concerned about its tactics. Let's dig into this in quality assurance the segment where we take a deeper look at a big tech story. Mark Harris is a reporter who's covered Pailin tear for wired politics selling point is that can take these hundreds of data streams from old different kinds of systems that don't nobody worked together. And it can squeeze them all into this pot to come up with these insights. But that's actually really tricky because you have to understand a lot of different types of Audra, a lot of different types of software and databases and every company and every jurisdiction dustings way. Well, in one of the other things that's been speculated is that pollen tear may have actually promised cities like New Orleans or Los Angeles that it could do sort of pre crime prediction, right that it could sort of use artificial intelligence to say, oh crimes are more likely to happen here. You should direct resources that way. Yeah. It's the case that police departments want to be smarter about the way they deploy their offices and deployed their resources to question is can you do that in a way that respects people civil liberties that doesn't talk it populations minorities, perhaps a poll neighborhoods that have disproportionate amounts of policing? Even though there's plenty of crime happening. Elsewhere there's a cycle of there's been crime here in the past. So let's go there gin and. Or you can institutionalize a lot of biases and discriminations. The you know that we've seen historically in cities across America. It reminds me a little bit of the Cambridge Analytica story where they were saying look, we can use this data to micro target to such an extent that it will be like, we're psychic. We can get right inside someone's brain. And I wonder if there is a possibility that no company can do as much with mounds of data as they promise. Right. That's really true. Right. It's nice that they have success stories, but we're not seeing the day today work with not seeing how useful it is for officers, and some of the emails that I've seen, you know, found that some people using the thought it was path other people, you know, had struggled with it and struggle to get it usable by them and to give them useful results in their work. So you're right Parenti has this mystique of having trouble the intelligence agencies. They have a grey attractive background. They sound like a an interesting company to have that sort of technology working in your organization into the truth of it is can you actually see whether it pays for itself. I haven't seen those data it's entirely possible. And if they go public, which they're planning to do in the next couple of years, then we'll have a lot more visibility into what they're doing. Mark Harris wrote about Pailin tear in wired this month, you can find a link to that story at our website. Marketplace tech dot org. And now for some related links literally related this time. First of all, you have to read the Wall Street Journal story from the other day about pollen tear, and it's and possible problems with its business plan if only for the description of Pailin, tears, the Alex carp his beanies, but Varian farmhouse tied cheese swords loud German phone calls and how he describes Pailin tear as a quote colony of artists, but plenty of people find surveillance software. Neither Corky nor artistic last month. Several immigrant rights groups put out a report accusing Pailin tear along with Amazon and bay area company called forensic logic. Which does predictive crime analysis of helping the Trump administration excessively target immigrants for jail or deportation? Amazon you may have heard has been selling facial recognition technology to law enforcement agencies. The software is called recognition spelled with a creepy. K instead of a sif. In may the ACLU ran a test of the system and found that it accidentally match twenty eight members of congress with mugshots of other people. Amazon said it was mis calibrated last month and anonymous Amazon employee wrote a medium post saying that four hundred fifty employees inside the company had signed a letter to Jeff Bezos asking the company to stop selling the recognition software to law enforcement and actually to kick Pailin tear off of Amazon web services. What a tangled web of surveillance. We we've happy weekends everyone. I'm Ali would. And that's marketplace tech. This is APN. "Slavery Republican in the White House, then they took it back up to ten and then after that, it's actually they took it back up to nine and it's been there pretty much ever since. So there is a precedent. There are two different precedents for congress changing the number of members of supreme court for political purposes for a thank you for the call. back. I told you I, you know, there's a bigger picture here to everything that I started ranting about this morning. I just wanna finish that rant. And then we'll pick up your phone calls. I mentioned that the point of judge cavenaugh of Brett cab Bart cavenaugh to the supreme court. Has seriously pissed off lots and lots of women across the United States, and you know, seriously, including Republican women, and and particularly independent democratic and at the same time. Mike and Karen Pence member Purdy Patel. I was telling you about last week. Perfect Patel was a woman in India. Excuse me. She's a woman in Indiana who who had a stillborn child. And she was arrested and sentenced to thirty years while she was facing thirty years in prison. She was sentenced to twenty years with ten years deferred or something. For violating a Mike Pence India or law that Mike Pence loved feta sideline, Indiana. For killing her baby. Right. They thought that she had induced an abortion. There was no evidence of that. There were no abortifacient drugs in her bloodstream, but they were going to sentence her to prison anyway until a federal judge overturned this ruling this local Indiana court saying, no, you can't do this. And Peru Patel is now free. She was the second person to be prosecuted under the Indiana law. Both of them were freed by the court. Well, now Karen Pence is going to campaign for a guy by the name of Mark Harris. And Mark Harris. Is. A former preacher and here are some of the things Marquez said. He's facing by the way, democrat, Dan McCreevy. In fact, if you wanna get even you know, some money to Denmark, Dan, mccready. The the guy that Karen Pence is going to campaign for says, quote women have lost basic skills. Like how to prepare a meal how to sew on a button how to keep a home? He quotes officious five twenty two. He says if excuse me wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as under the Lord in one survey from February third twenty thirteen he said, the majority of marital problems could be linked to couples not following that guidance. He said, many marriages could say boo copes beaucoup of marriage counseling, if they would just understand husbands. Love your wife says Christ loved the church wives, submit yourself onto your husband's is on to the Lord. He said women should submit to their husbands because the Lord ordained it. So Karen Pence is going to campaign for this guy and white nationalist are melting down over Taylor swift because she has endorsed now. The democrat in Tennessee, Phil Bredesen's who is running for the US Senate. And over on four Chan we must save her right one distraught. White nationalist, another says stupid, beware doesn't respect the Trump curse. She has to learn the hard way another one says she's going to die of a stroke. This month is divine retribution for betrayal. But now you've got people like Matt's. Max boot calling for he's a, you know, a lifelong Republican now he is an immigrant to the United States. He came here when he was six years old, he's Jewish and he saying, that's it. He said they will double down on white, nationalism, and racism and xenophobia and underline undermining the rule of law. This'll be sold solidified as the core part of the Republican identity. That's why I think it's essential that Republicans pay a price at the ballot box for what they are doing. And that's why I'm urging this is max boot the Republican commentator. That's why I'm urging as somebody who has a lifelong Republican who never voted for a democrat. Having said all that I'm urging everybody to vote straight ticket democratic in November. Because I think it's imperative to get some checks and balances. But when Donald Trump. Tells lies like this. What is the antidote? What what is the corrective when when Karen pants is going out campaigning for a guy like this? What is the corrective? Well, Donald Trump knows what that corrective is and he's trying to kneecap it in advance. In fact, he started his presidency trying to kneecap it that corrective is the free press. Yesterday day before yesterday on Fox News. Donald Trump went on with Janine Perot Perot and said that there should be consequences for those who accused cavenaugh of sexual assault consequences. Meanwhile in Bulgaria. A young woman, Victoria Marinova. She's thirty years old. She's a professional journalist. She had last week. She was reporting. She has her own new show, it's called detector. And in her first episode. This is recently, she just launched this like a month ago in first episode. She had two investigative reporters. Talking about quote large-scale widespread corruption on EU funded projects in vulgarity. This is basically the government bog areas. Stealing millions of dollars hundreds of millions of dollars from the EU. Well, here's the story a popular Bulgarian journalists. This is what happens when you when you hate the news who is reported who had reported on an investigation into alleged corruption. The EU funds was raped and beaten to death the semi nude body at thirty year old. Marina, Victoria, Marinova was found in the park and Dan on the in the Danube town of Roussin Saturday. She'd been beaten with such force.
