"Rising the maker of connected bikes and treadmills saying it'll sell a $1 billion worth of stock Shares have fallen 45% since peloton slashed its annual revenue forecast by as much as a $1 billion earlier this month our own Mark Germain joins us now with more So Mark what exactly does this share offering mean So this means that there is now a secondary market of shares that peloton is selling to investors to really build up more capital and they expect to build up more than a $1 billion in capital here Their share prices in the mid $50 per range now after following by nearly half the share price that they're going to be selling these additional shares at come in at about $46 a share I believe somewhere in the mid 40s so that's quite a bit of savings there In order to raise that over a $1 billion in capital And we sort of see how to get your stock out of a funk Will you do a move like this Is it gonna work Or do they have to get the numbers to back it up Well the shares went off today but they closed up 16% from yesterday So it did work at least from today People being able to come in at that much lower price This is the first time since the IPO a few years ago that peloton obviously did a major public offering like this They say they will be profitable again by fiscal 2023 but investors are really going to want to see that happen before they really continue to invest heavily in that stock beyond this initial $1 billion raise Walk us through the challenges that peloton is facing their grim forecast and what you're going to be looking for through the holiday season Well this is really self inflicted wounds in one respect one is they should not have guided They should not have provided those forecasts Only three months ago they said they would be making a $1 billion more than they're actually going to in fiscal 2022 But that doesn't affect that doesn't really impact the overall business The numbers really be the same We just went know about the forecasts They clearly were anticipating stronger results coming out of COVID than they're going to have They see people going back to the gym They see people going back to the offices So they're really going to continue to have to invest in their marketing and other strategies And other types of new categories of products to get people hooked on two peloton in order to get back to those levels of profitability early next year they're going to be releasing the peloton guide This is going to be a product that comes in at less than half the price of their bike This is a home strength training device so that's going to be a key way to add more people to the ecosystem as they get more people on both connected and digital subscriptions I think they do have a compelling case to make even though COVID is nearing the end in terms of economic reopenings They're still probably is a place for people working out at home People have bought and treadmills and other devices for home for many years and peloton really wants to be the king of that What's the main competition here is it other bike and tread makers or is it the gym or is it coming out of a pandemic and everyone not being on lockdown I think it's a mix of the three right Tonal is their big competitor now in strength training the tonal makes a very similar device Albeit four to 5 times more expensive than the peloton guide I think it's the lower end treadmills that people are buying for a few hundred bucks on Amazon that are a big competitor right there I also think the complications from COVID a combination of the miss estimation of demand underperforming supply chain I think these are all red flags that have basically torn apart the peloton story for the next few quarters So what's next What are you watching Now obviously the peloton guide coming out in early 2022 will want to see reception to that We'll want to see how that product integrates with their other devices There are also other products in the pipeline There's a rowing machine they have been working on I want to see them find a way to get the treadmill come out with the treadmill that's even less expensive right now the treadmills at $2500 if they can get that down by another $1000 that could be a really nice sweet spot for people and even lower end bike that comes in under a $1000 And I think marketing or financing plans for their advertising their different products at a monthly rate instead of the full purchase price a stronger push into that perhaps some sort of partnership with a dedicated credit card of some sort to get people hooked on to peloton really hooking people onto the subscription and making it So there's lower churn I think all of those things combined could be pretty compelling for the company In addition to wearables they're coming out with their first armor and wearable this heart rate monitor that connects to the peloton guide It's also going to be available for their other products Eventually turning that into a completely stand-alone device similar to a whoop or an Amazon halo Could be fairly compelling as well And there's also a whole ecosystem of accessories for the fitness market that they can get hooked onto Also the precord acquisition a commercial position for them to get into existing gyms existing hotels college campuses getting the peloton outside of the home is a very potential strong area for them and that really alleviates the concerns around do people really want to work out at home versus not If peloton's at home pelton's in your gym it doesn't really matter to the company They're still selling that equipment and drumming up their bottom line All right Mark gurman thank you for sharing all of that with us to watch out for Appreciate it Coming up I'm going to be speaking with Roblox.

"The thing about the circular firing squad metaphor is for about the last decade, the total addressable market for most of the big tech companies was so big that growth was comparatively easy. It was very much a matter of just planning your flag or standing in front of the tidal wave of history, letting it wash over you and printing money really pick your metaphors there. Weirdly, there are suddenly so many different headwinds facing big tech that it's hard to keep track of. Regulation is, of course, a big deal, but also people are talking seriously about how the global supply chain has had an emperor's new clothes moment. Like, I know the global pandemic of COVID has been hugely disruptive, but the thing is, it could have been so much worse. Imagine the disruption something like China invading Taiwan could cause. Or the decades of climate change, chaos, seemingly built into our collective cakes. People are starting to ask questions of the whole global supply chain regime that all of these big tech companies have built their success on over the last two decades and are starting to wonder what good it's vaunted efficiency is, if even small disruptions leave the supply chain completely prostrate. Maybe more robustness needs to be built into the system. Of course, the king of the global supply chain is Apple, but as we've been discussing the global chip shortage has seemingly finally hit Apple at the worst possible time ahead of the holiday shopping season. Mark gurman touches on this in his newsletter over the weekend, quote Tim Cook was a bit defensive on apple's quarterly earnings call Thursday, the chief executive officer was quick to tell investors and analysts that the company's product shortages aren't the result of a quote fundamental error that we've made end quote, and that its supply chain strategy didn't create the current troubles. Instead, he laid the blame on suppliers. If only one chip or part is in tight supply, Apple can't build and ship that device. There lies the problem, not apple's scrutinized manufacturers in China cook seem to imply. It's not surprising to see quick defend apple's supply chain strategy. After all, he was the one who helped forge the partnership with Foxconn and build its supply chain empire two decades ago. If it were not for the current problems, Apple would have reported a record $90 billion for its fiscal fourth quarter. And instead of missing analyst expectations for total sales, as well as falling short in revenue, from the iPhone Mac and accessories, it probably would have had a clean sweep of beating Wall Street forecasts. The timing of the supply problems is especially poor because Apple has one of its strongest product lineups in years, and now its sales engine is spurring for reasons that it says are out of its control. But is it out of their control? Or is the system that Tim Cook helped build two fragile in its very makeup, designed for a world that was more stable all things considered than the one that we increasingly find ourselves in? A related story this weekend from the journal said that sourcing chips has almost turned into a lottery amid the global chip shortage as wait times have ballooned to 22 weeks or more, quote, the global semiconductor shortage is worsening with wait times lengthening buyers hoarding products and the potential end looking less likely to materialize by next year. Demand didn't moderate as expected. Supply routes got clogged, unpredictable production hiccups slam factories already running at full capacity. What's left is widespread confusion for manufacturers and buyers alike. Some buyers trying to place new orders are getting delivery dates in 2024 said Ian walker. Operations director at electronic components distributor principles electronics, which helps companies find chips. It really feels as if we are running out mister walker said wait times for chip deliveries have continued to climb above a healthy threshold of 9 to 12 weeks. Over the summer of the weight stretch to 19 weeks on average, according to Susquehanna financial group. But as of October, it has ballooned to 22 weeks. It is longer for the scarcest parts 25 weeks for power management components and 38 weeks for the microcontrollers that the auto industry needs the firm said. Scott ren, senior global equity strategist at Wells Fargo investment institute said he would have thought 6 months ago that chip shortages would start easing by this time. But now he says they will likely last until 2023. Wells Fargo investment institute recently revised down its U.S. GDP forecast to 6.3% from 7% as the chip shortage limited the supply of consumer.

"The new iPhone is hard to come by This is expanding to other devices So the big challenge for the balance of this year is Apple going to figure out how to get the new devices into consumer hands And to answer your other question beyond the MacBook Pro in the existing devices look for new versions of the AirPods to be introduced before the end of the year as well And what other companies devices from other companies will be impacted I mean obviously it's not just Apple Right you see Google is going to announce the pixel 6 That's their new phone Next week actually October 19th on Tuesday so day after apple's announcement So we'll be taking a look if they're gonna have a supply chain crunch related to that product as well Amazon announced a slew of new devices a couple of weeks ago including the home robot a new echo show 15 for your wall And those who have shipping times quoted at the very end of this year or into next year as well So clearly this is a problem affecting all the major consumer devices makers So what are you going to be watching for next mark Yeah I mean the next big thing I'm watching for is looking into next year about apple's augmented reality and virtual reality headset plans That is indeed the next big major launch from Apple They were hoping to start discussing that product publicly this year Obviously that's not something they want to introduce virtually This is the biggest new major category from Apple in 7 years since the original Apple watch They want to make a big splash So I believe that will be introduced sometime next year And this is a really interesting story for consumers for developers and the industry about how Apple is going to be able to tie everything together into a brand new product category And really take a category of device VR that's really niche at this point and try to take it mainstream And I think it's going to take some time for Apple to pull it off but there's certainly going to try All right Bloomberg's Mark gurman Thank you so much for that update Obviously lots of continue to follow Meantime coming up Miami's big bet on crypto Check and more We're going to be joined by Miami mayor Francis Suarez.

"MacOS ten and use that code macOS can to save 10%. What are you doing on Monday, strange day for it, but Apple has announced that that is when its next media event is going to be I download blog has apple saying that it's next global video party will take place on the 18th of October, which is a Monday. Apple is described the event as unleashed, which I suspect has to do with speed. And we may come back to that. Definitely expected next week announcements dealing with the Mac. We're close to a year and apple's plan two year transition to a full line to max powered by Apple silicon. That plus rumors plus a drying up of some MacBook inventory make new max announced next week seem like a notch unless you're from the UK in which the new Macs seem like a dead cert. I download blog seems to feel safe saying a new 16 inch MacBook Pro is on the way that is supported by that MacBook inventory issue I mentioned a moment ago. A separate piece from I download blog had Bloomberg's Mark gurman pointing on Twitter to a bit of a delay for the 16 inch MacBook Pro. Quoting Gorman's tweet, the 16 inch MacBook Pro, which if you've lost track still uses Intel and hasn't been updated in two years, is showing unavailable for pickup at many Apple stores plus shipment delays. The shipment delay is kind of crazy. If I had ordered a 16 inch MacBook Pro yesterday, Apple cites as I could have had to deliver between the 20th of October and the 22nd. Kind of hard to imagine because they really going to put out another Intel based 16 inch MacBook Pro next week. Would I not be ordering just to have to change my order a week from now? And again, Apple has said it will support Intel based Macs for years to come. Does that mean new ones, though? The other thing all of that makes me wonder, does Apple plan to have its new Macs in stores next week. In normal times, that's not unheard of. But as far as the supply chain goes, these are not normal times. That said, people don't rush out for new Macs in the same numbers that they do for new iPhones or Apple watches. It's having the event on Monday that makes me wonder. That in the promise of delivery for a 16 inch MacBook Pro as soon as a week from today. As for what else we might see unleashed, I download blog points to rumors that have circled since at least last May of a 14 inch MacBook Pro, the site also points to the possibility of new AirPods next week. Some had expected those at last month, California streaming event, but they were not to be. Not then anyway. As it has been for a while now, Apple has decked its events page with an AR doodad. First, I guess I should describe the associated artwork for the event for people who haven't seen it. You know, when ships shipped into hyperspace and Star Wars, how the stars sort of start streaking. That's the look apple's gone with for the unleashed event. Echoing the still image appears from Apple insiders as the augmented reality bed features star like objects whipping by giving off the illusion of traveling through space at warp speed. Some of the streaking stars outlined the Apple logo, some illustrate the event date. At least they do in the augmented reality presentation. I gotta say as impressed as I was with the last AR toy for the last event. This one's a bit more difficult. Probably works great in a relatively dark room or against a dark surface. Midday with the sun streaming through a nearby window that was kind of easy to lose. Now, a moment or two wondering about what the event title and associated art might mean. Unleashed could mean untethered, possibly indicating an emphasis on portability or laptops. That would certainly be in keeping with the lack of 16 inch MacBook pros and rumors around a 14 inch model. It seems probable that the Apple silicon powering the next machines won't be last year's M1, but something else. M1 X or M 2 may be. That'll likely mean faster performance hence the hyperspace or warp speed illustration. Or maybe they just thought it looked neat. Said for next Monday, the 18th of October, Apple goes unleashed at ten a.m. Pacific, one p.m. eastern, you can catch the event on apple's events page, though I've not seen it turn up yet. It seems a safe bet that it will be featured on both Apple TV and the Apple TV app. The company is also already set up a placeholder on its YouTube channel after the advantage should show up as a video podcast and an audio podcast, tweeters will tweet, bloggers will blog, and I will, of course, hit the highlights on macOS can on the 19th of October, which is a Tuesday. More news in a moment. But first a word from ladder. Smart, dynamic term life insurance. Ladder is disruptive..

Ali pay split off into a separate lender there. That's putting downward pressure on Alibaba shares, of course, the other Jack Ma company down just a percent or so you see Mets want and send music and a few other other 80 yards listed here in the United States. They're also going to come out with the new slate of Max as well as ipads, and they keep in mind some of the other suppliers here. Qualcomm and Globalstar been at the center of a lot of speculation here about a satellite feature baked into this iPhone to satellite feature. Mark Herman has confirmed with his own reporting. This will be a broadband chip the Qualcomm will be providing, and Qualcomm has a relationship with Global Star, a small satellite company. We've had extremely fast recovering us was at its pre pandemic level of GDP in Q two already, so this is a historic drop for by historically that recovery, But then when you look into the surface were not fully there yet the labor market has some new to go. Apple Plans Faster Watch, Future Temperature and Glucose Sensors

"A mark gurman and debbie. Woo apple scoop monday. Their sources say apple is planning to launch a faster. Watch with improve connectivity and screen later this year which okay. That's probably to be expected. There always improving things like connectivity and screens but also what if we got new model types say an entry level and extreme sports model beginning next year quoting bloomberg the cupertino california-based tech giant is planning to refresh the line this year with a model likely dubbed the apple. Watch series seven. By adding a faster processor improved wireless connectivity an updated screen. According to people with knowledge of the plans next year the company plans to update the main apple watch alongside a successor for the lower end apple watch s e and a new version targeting extreme sports athletes apple had previously aim to put a body temperature sensor in this year's model. But that is now more likely to be included in the update. The blood sugar sensor which would help diabetics monitor their glucose levels is unlikely to be ready for commercial launch for several more years for this year's model apple has tested thinner display borders and a new lamb technique that brings the display closer to the front cover. The new watch is likely to be slightly thicker overall but not in a way. That's noticeable to the user. The model will include updated ultra wideband functionality. "Apple's pro desktop could have up to forty course This rumor was broken by mark. Gurman about apple's impending arm plans and there's actually a handful of rumors. Let's get through all of them. So i up. Is that new macbook pros a fourteen inch and sixteen inch are shockingly coming featuring apple silicon. I don't think anybody saw this new. Macs with apple silicon. No no they were going to have the segmented line forever apple silicon and intel living in perfect harmony No no not happening. They have this like doing their own thing in house ever. They're going to have four thunderbolt ports. Hd my and an st card slot meant having hdmi back. How freaking awesome. Is that going to be for all the people that don't have hdmi on their laptop already. Like what an upgrade. I actually ran a dell. Xps thirteen to one as a daily driver for almost a year. I think and that was the thing that drove me most crazy. I thought it was going to be usb like a usb type and from time to time that was pretty obnoxious because my ubt is the taipei and i do like to use a mouse. If i'm actually sitting in doing something for a while at the computer. I don't really prefer wireless mice bluetooth. I find noticeably noticeably. Leg man i just love to see an industry standard for something like logitech slate. Speed properly tried light speed kills really well. Yeah but i mean you need a dongle. They're all taipei. So basically you're stuck with a dog goal no matter what if you want to plug a decent mouse into your laptop. But that wasn't the one that drove me crazy. The one that drove me most crazy most often was not having hdmi. Because you never know if you're going to be somewhere doing something

Not going to do that. Apple has publicly commented. Probably won't you know unless it's some flippant thing like now we're not doing that. Not twice but three times in the last month to a complete standstill. Paul bring in our good guest on Apple. Hey, Mark. We had some sense, I think, but some phenomenal numbers out of Apple Computer last night beat on the top line. Beat on earnings. Mark Harmon Bloomberg News Tech reporter. What did you take away from the earnings report? And what you heard from management last night? Yes, Tom. Thank you. For the kind words. Terry kind. Paul. Good to talk to you as well. The numbers were absolutely home run. I was shocked. It's 111.4 billion. No time record early quarter hold early revenue analysts were expecting around 103 104 billion, So not only did they cross that the thing you know they smashed right through that $100 billion barrier. But the stock actually fell in. I know it's it's down in early trading this well, too, because of the lack of optimism and more of the cautious, you know, Outlook. Apple has that the current quarter cute, too. They said there would be a deceleration or, in other words, that decline in sales of things like air pods and services in the current quarter, But overall the previous quarter pretty good, But you know, investors only care about what's happening now and in the future. So they don't seem necessarily care about that anymore. They moved on to the next thing. So you know, I know it's they did not provide guidance, which disappointed some investors talk to us about the You know the iPhone. Is it a super cycle is this five g phone? Quote unquote. A supercycle is some animals like Dan Ives and what Bush securities have suggested for a while. You know, the super sickle term, I think is really interesting. Because you know a supercycle sounds like something that only happens every 10 years. But you have something with this iPhone that happens, You know, maybe every three or four years every three years now. They do this big redesign. There's always a big, you know, fundamental change. And, of course, the iPhone. 12 is one of those. You know, everyone has a different definition of the super cycle. But waiting, Tim Cook put it. He's like You know, we've had the most up graders we've ever had in the previous quarter. So that's not a supercycle. I don't know. It is more commonly to your reporting, which is stop the industry in the last 30 days and folks I mean, Gurman publishes in like 482 people a lot of bar in Silicon Valley. Just stop what they're doing and figure out the next step mark of Max and all that stuff is a small part of the apple story. May I suggest that there's a massive misjudgment of what the upgrade that's coming could look like you've reported on this. But if they throw the chip in if they make 10 core or 18 core, fancy fancy computers out there Doesn't everyone in the known world have toe upgrade just to keep this shell game going. Completely here with you, Tom. We have hit new territory for the Mac. We've hit a point in the Max, You know, Lifeline that we haven't seen in 10 years worth the point where you're gonna see prices dropping performance. Skyrocketing new features being added a new designs being added, they have not able to be have done before, and I think we saw picket that given these work from home sales. You know, at some point, hopefully soon the pandemic. We're going to be past that, But I don't think Mills group that Apple is seen from the Mac is going to stop because the pandemic we're the point where the pandemic is going to end and Apple's gonna enter new territory for the back. You're not gonna see that drop off. I think that sometimes we're expecting from the spice we've seen from the pandemic for the Mac. And then here's new designs were going to be incredible. Yeah, I mean, we really talked to somebody like you who actually wakes up honest. We usually talk those evil people on the sell side marked German is the sell side. Long a short Super Bowls, super bears Whatever Have they priced in the observation? You just stated about the mother of all upgrade cycles for a small part of the Mac revenue, the Apple revenue Stream..

Apple Mac bringing back the SD card

"Starting to look like this. Next mac book pro is gonna be the mac book. Where sorry is gonna be the mac book. We were wrong because we already talked about the fact that there maybe probably moving away from the touch bar. We already know the fact. They went to an older style keyboard design. Yesterday we talked about or maybe two days ago that they were going to go back to having a mag safe connector. Today's report we're gonna put an st card in there s the card reader so this was a long experiment for them. You know what it was. Well let me tell you what happened. They let everybody go and buy the minimalist design figured out how much they missed having features so that now in this one comes out and gives them all the features back they rush out like crazy real quick to pick those up. So it's our fault right. Yeah i blame you really do. Yeah i card reader. How nice would it be. Just having st carburetor. Maybe they do some even crazier and put an hdmi port and now just fantastic. Let's not get good type stuff. We're asking for here analyst. Ming cheek will outline his expectations for the new fourteen inch and sixteen inch macbook pro models. Coming later this year with the mag makes a charging connector the removal of the touch bar a new flat edge design and a return of more ports built into notebook for expanded connectivity. I mean i'm so sick. Docs and i'm so sick of dogle today on the macbook air. I watched mo- have to pull out the docking station and everything else. He was tangled up in wire. He had wires because he needed to as the and he wanted to connect an ethernet. And i don't think we're going to eastern at jack on here but still so the next s the card Part of it comes from bloomberg's mark gurman the upcoming macbook pros and example of apple's renewed focus on mac loyalists. The company is planning to bring back in sd card slot for the next macbook pro so users can insert memory cards from digital cameras. Yeah that's what you do with an s. d. card slot. The feature was removed all the way back in two thousand sixteen hundred twenty one. Now this is kind of unlike apple but who knows you never know what they're gonna do remember when they went for the trash can mac pro for example and then they completely backed off the next time around They there were some issues. People wished that they had more ability to upgrade that device switch out. Gp's and things that they wanted a traditional design and so apple went right back to the tower the regular style tower. So i think it's the right move. I don't think. I think if you had you had a plan and things didn't really pan out then that's fine. You know you admit it and you move on this trash can was kinda cute but it just wasn't ready for prime time. We have the rumor that the next model could be a little cube but that they're probably going to keep the full-sized towers as an option. But this is about the macbook pros and the two thousand fifteen macbook pro. Not only did it have an st card reader. It also had in hdmi port. And you're be ports. Which i know. This is the kind of stuff that you're most. Pleasant drinks are filled with. Well the sweet sweet for all kinds of sports. The we'll see what happens but this is a nice little touch here. I know

Volkswagen said last month that they needed to adjust first-quarter manufacturing plans around the globe because of the shortage. Now honda says it will cut domestic output by about four thousand cars this month at one of its factories in japan nissan is adjusting production numbers for its note hatchback model and ford has moved up previously planned downtime at a kentucky plant for its sport utility vehicle factory to the jin chips all right. Well we're talking about cars. Let's talk about the the apple car. Yeah a lot of rumors as of late will really over the last few years. But but but the rumors had resurfaced recently and hyundais. Now talking to apple about kerr's so says the company hyundai representative told cnbc quotes. We understand that apple isn't discussion with a variety of global automakers including hyundai motor as the discussion is at its early stage. Nothing has been decided. Korean economic daily said that apple suggested the arrangements and hundred was reviewing the terms that involved e production and also battery development hyundai has had his own battery platform called e. g. m. p. going into production later this year. So might be saying what you're doing. Reuters sources say that apple would like to produce a passenger vehicle by twenty twenty four however might not be that date bloomberg's mark gurman reports in thomas e. v. from apple is five to seven years away and michio recently said he wouldn't be surprised if it takes until twenty twenty eight. Yes what's probably going on. Here is apple and i think this significant part has decided to start investigating how they would build. Whatever it is. They're going to build whether it's a whole car or an integrated platform and they're going to different manufacturers and parts suppliers and folks like magna including hyundai. And saying what are you got. How can you help us with this. And is a great company for this because they make parts they make systems. They make full cars. There's all kinds of services in the conday company that could play a part with apple so it may not be. That apple knows what they want from hyundai. It may just be that they're going and saying hey let's talk. You do a lot of the kinds of things that we think we're going to need. I'm pretty excited about this. I just got my first hyundai ever this year and my perception of this story was weight but hyundai currently uses android auto and a lot of their their cars. So i would love to see. How apple would integrate Hyundai's current technologies into something that is very useful for that apple ecosystem not just looking at e itself but also the The the systems inside of it the controls in how they would manage that four a driver and a passenger in the car. Yeah i mean. I think that's one of the big questions that i have is okay. Let's say let's say it's hyundai that that applet ended up working with with clearly not set in stone at least from what we know at this point. But let's say it's the companies for kicks. Let's imagine that that's what it is. Yeah it is. It is an apple car that hyundai produces a lot of parts for the way that works with lots of other companies to produce other hardware for apple. I mean that that's the loftiest kind of goal that we're looking at and maybe that would take till twenty twenty eight at you know if if apple was lucky. I think it probably has more to do with like you said shannon not that you know android auto wouldn't still be prevalent in a lot of passenger vehicles but maybe at some sort of it's a special relationship. It's it's a special kind of os inside a car that is supposed to you. Know i don't know move some merch because What apple is providing on the software side is is. Is that much more interesting. I really don't know if you look at that. Bloomberg article mark gurman sources are saying that Tesla people that apple has hired are working on things like interior exterior. Drive train stereo. Desist the kinds of things. You need when you're building a car not carting a software platform so then the question becomes is it the apple car period. Maybe hendaye makes it. Maybe somebody else makes it. And you know they'll figure out how to distribute it or is it the apple car by sunday and you go to hyundai dealership to buy it the way you went to an. At and t. store to an apple iphone but it's really apples car in cooperation with sunday. Are there multiple partners. I mean that's all the kind of stuff we're waiting to see but it really does feel like we have gotten to the point where this is no longer just yeah. They're working on project titan. They don't know what they're gonna do to. They have an idea. It's more than just software and they're working out the details. Maybe they don't even know that yet. Well i'm interested to see what happens but we also have some other news. Security among the systems impacted by the solar winds attack is the electron filing system. Used by the us federal courts at investigation is underway to determine if confidentiality of documents filed with the courts was breached and as a result starting wednesday confidential documents filed with the courts will be stored on standalone systems. Not uploaded big difference so these are documents sealed from public access because they contain sensitive information like investigative techniques identities of informants and a lot more other. Us federal agencies affected included the justice department the state treasury and energy departments as well solar winds has engaged. The krebs stay most security consulting group to help deal with this attack. That firm was formed by alex. Stamos the former chief security officer at yahoo and facebook and chris krebs the former director of the us cybersecurity and infrastructure security agency or sisa. So krebs was fired last month. By the president after finding no evidence of with voting systems in the twenty twenty election. Yeah stamos first of all brilliant for those two to team up and smart for solar winds to engage them for what they say is Helping with transparency with companies that are affected But this we we are not done finding out how bad this is. There are reports that there may have been other ways that this whoever is behind this intruded beyond just solar winds. They're finding evidence of that. They have not been able to root out the people that got into this vulnerability from all systems yet. They're still in there in a lot of cases. And you know this. This kind of confidential information is exactly the kind of thing you fear that someone would get intruding into a government system informants investigative techniques that you can now learn from to evade being prosecuted or caught yourself. That's that's crown jewel type stuff it's it's very interesting. In fact krebs spoke on record saying that it could potentially take years to figure out how deep the solar winds attack actually went and how many different kinds of infrastructure. You know brands and everything that it might have affected so this is not something. That's going to die anytime soon. I'm glad that they are reaching out. Craig's and stay most though because that i agree with you tom. It's excellent. excellent team roku made a few interesting announcements roku says. Npd data shows that the roku s was the top selling smarter operating system in the us and canada in two thousand twenty thirty one percent market share in canada. Thirty eight percent in the united states That's pushed the samsung's tizen number two. At least we don't actually know samsung's ties and was number. One in two thousand nineteen also announced a wireless soundbar reference design that uses wifi for its roku. Tv ready program remember. Last year roku announced the program which had a designed for wired. Sound bars. The program includes tcl. Pokemon on an element has just announced. They'll join as well with two point. Two point one ready sound bars roku tv ready to expand internationally later this year as well. But here's the big roku news roku has agreed to acquire exclusive global distribution rights to more than seventy five Shows documentaries some of which had not been released before qube shutdown. So there'll be some new stuff that nobody's ever seen after their exclusivity deal expires. That'll happen in a bit more than a year. Depending on the show roku will still have the rights to show the content just not exclusively until thousand twenty seven the content will have to be presented in original increments of ten minutes or less. The deal doesn't let them stitch it altogether. The content will be added to the more than forty thousand movies and tv shows already available. In the roku channel shows include from Be anyway punked. Murder house. Flip and dummy which stars anna kendrick. I never watched the new punk. I heard had its moments. The whole qube thing. It's really interesting to me because it was sort of like. It crashed and burned so quickly. And there's a lotta shot and friday around folks in the industry about it. And i think that's not because qube was doing things wrong. It was because the company had raised so much money time. Because you know. They had meg whitman. Jeffrey katzenberg who are you know. Heavy hitters and there was a little bit of like you are being to embassies and therefore you shall fail. The company did fail and the idea that some creators will have a new life on another platform shows. That just don't even saw but people still worked on. And maybe you're really good. I think this this makes a lotta sense and good for roku to get exclusivity for at least a few years so does roku have to wait at all in order to start showing this content or can happen immediately. I don't know when the start date. Whenever the deal is you know goes into effect. Then they'll immediately be able to to show it so you know within a month or so it would be my guess anyway but no they. They don't have once. The deal is actually in effect. They don't have to wait. What's going on here. is that the baby. Production companies own the rights to their own stuff but they have a two year exclusive for each one of their shows with qube and those two year exclusives are now being transferred to roku so roka will be able to have the exclusive for the remainder of whatever. The period was with quick. That's why it's more a year. Exclusively goes away then they still have the right to show it until twenty twenty seven but the production companies that made it can now start shopping at around to other places as well so the production companies do hold the content and remember this is just the content. Qube is still in a over. Its turnstile technology which is holding it up from selling its technology and i would expect once it resolves that lawsuit should resolve it in a way that they still hold their technology. They'll sell that to so this isn't the last you're going to hear could be selling off a part of it. I would imagine. Gotcha yeah that whole. The whole technology part of qube was again was an ambitious thing that was released at a very inopportune time in twenty twenty when everyone was like. We're just sitting at home like we don't need this like mobile phone technology. It's like cool that you can shifted around but you can't even cast thing. I mean the company did fix that pretty soon after allow about she was just. I mean it's just did. The timing couldn't be worse but that technology when you think of it in a variety of other form factors such as monitors that swivel talked about some of those yesterday. I don't know that qube or tiktok or snapchat or all of the stuff where we're like. Oh yeah that's the. That's the portrait view. Rather than landscape view. That works for certain apps is is is all that this is four. I think there's more to it So we'll see what happens and there's patents and things that are always valuable because you can use those to extract some concessions and money and stuff. So yeah expect that all to come join the conversation in our discord which you can join by linking to a patriotic. Can't get in there and talk about your favourite qube shows with all the other discord folks. Just lincoln to your patriotic out at patriotair dot com slash. Dpd s all right shannon. How do you clone a security key. Well i i will say please do not stop using your security keys because of this story i will explain it. Researchers from ninja lab published a paper on thursday showing how you could clone a google tightened security gate this is a two factor authentication key which is very similar to a you. Be key that you have to plug in or tap in order to access an account after putting in your username or your password credentials. Were both so in order to pull off the clone. You would need physical access to the key for about ten hours. Sometimes a minimum of ten hours just kind of depends on how good you are at this. About twelve thousand dollars worth of equipment physical equipment and custom software and some advanced skills in electrical engineering and cryptography as well. So you have to remove the chip and then take measurements of it at a being registered on each account that you went to attack the measurements observe electro magnetic radiation as the chip generates digital signatures that let the attacker slowly deduced the private key so measurements take about six hours per account. That's not including taking apart. The original tighten security key putting it back together. Then you need to seal the chip back into its case. You also need the targets password in order for this to work. So the reason it works is because of vulnerability in the security hardware chip residing within the google titan key and that is called an eighty seven hundred x by this company called. Xp if it's exploited in attacker could grab the elliptic curve cryptographic private key for the account and the same chip is actually found in other two factor. Authentication physical tokens as well like There's a ubiquity that it's found in but chances of attack or very very minimal given the scope of the attack so if you do all of this without the target ever noticing then they would never duplicated key but again given the scope given how much it costs and everything behind the scenes probably when it happened to normal user. The point of these security keys being the best way to use For two factor. Is that you can't even get at your private key right you. Nobody has to be able to get in there like the chip. Just doesn't make it available so the fact that they were able to get in there and get it is huge. You know the fact that they were able to do this is significant. But i mean if you're not a target of an advanced persistent threat. You don't need to worry about this. No one's going to go to the trouble to do this. And even if you're a target. I would guess shannon that most of them probably would be able to notice if someone took their key for ten hours or more you. You likely likely would especially since a lot of people with hardware tokens like google titan will stick them on a on their keychain for example like with their house keys or whatever wherever they keep all those personal physical devices that they don't want lost or stolen they keep them all on engaging so if somebody was to take one of these out of your purse out of your gym locker wherever it might be and remove it for like ten hour street minimum. You would likely know that this would have happened. the neat thing about these chips inside of these. Google tightened security keys. And any other cryptographic hardware tokens like these is that. Even the manufacturer doesn't know the private key so the fact that they were able to find vulnerability on these specific chipsets is really interesting. And i think that's the important bit of that. Is is even though the google titan like the end all be all of really excellent. Two factor authentication. There's always. The potential that vulnerabilities can be found. So i'm happy that this research came out. It's so fascinating and it's so interesting in this means that an x. p. and other security chipset manufacturers that sell these teeny tiny chips to google or whoever the company might be They can build on this. They can research and figure out what the next version of their chipset needs to entail in order to not be vulnerable to this again in the future. Yeah i mean this is really a good security story right. We finally figured out because there's always a way right. We finally figured out the way you get the private key out of a security key and guess what it's really hard takes a long time and now that we know it we can make it even harder and hopefully you know push that barrier out even further and even if somebody did have time to do this and you didn't notice i was reading the paper because i'm a huge nerd and they go as far as using fuming fuming nitric acid in order to get like melt the epoxy off of the original google titan. How are you going to put that back together. In order for somebody to not notice like there's a lot of intricacies with this attack in order for it to actually be pulled off so chances are very very slim that somebody would be able to pull off so again as i said at the very beginning. Don't stop using your google tightened security key if you have one keep using it because chances are you would never be attacked with this. Just just know if you haven't seen it in ten hours look together strange. This is going to be in a movie though. I'm calling that shot right now. We're gonna we're gonna see this movie. Where like i hope so. Somebody goes into surgery and they take his key and they go out and do all this and they slip it back in because ten hours later. He wakes up from anesthesia on something like that. I just hope they talked to the researchers so they actually show it off right. Yeah Sony tv and audio announcements Starting with details for its own tv lineup. Sticking with lead ravi x four k and k. Tv's will support four k at one hundred twenty hertz variable refresh rate vr as well as a l l m low latency mode and e arc. These are all things that are important. If you've got a ps five now you've got sony. Tv they can go. That sony also has an improved a chip that is going to improve the picture and sound positioning. So it aligns with what you see on the screen. Sony's master series. Tv's will come with a sensor that adjusts white balanced immense. Your ambiente color temp. You don't have to do anything they'll just do it. Also an aluminum heat shield. That will make for brighter. All the sets will support. Hdmi two point one. Another big one for ps five dolby vision hdr angle tv. Sony also announced. It's three hundred sixty reality audio platform if you're not familiar with three hundred sixty degree audio places instruments and vocals in a virtual sound field around your head but using just the one speaker so you can do this in an amazon echo or google. Home sony will start streaming video with three sixty audio later this year. Starting with concert from zara larsson on january eleventh. And somebody's gonna make speakers that support this. It'll be may supported by other speakers as well. But sony is going to put out the are five thousand and three thousand They've got that dark cloth. Surface that all these speakers seem to have these days with either bronze or silver accents. Work with google and amazon assistance and can connect to select sony abroad via. Tv's as well as supporting wi fi bluetooth. Spotify connect in google cast. The speakers do automated calibration to the room. They're in donut. The press a button for that. Either and we'll simulate three hundred sixty degree audio for stereo tracks as well. The five thousand cost five hundred pounds or five hundred ninety nine euros no. Us price yet on the three thousand two hundred eighty pounds. Three hundred fifty nine euros. This seems this. Seems like it's shaping up to be one of the trends. Is this the sort of three hundred sixty degree audio while you're listening to your black bank and it's just one speaker or potentially a couple of speakers ativan. Maybe yeah yeah already supported. Yeah there's less of kind of like What do i have to do. Five point one surround or at least get a couple of speakers and make them a stereo pair type thing. I really haven't heard this in. I don't know. I used to hang out at magnolia at best. Buy all the time. And just like geek out on stuff like this. of course. this technology wasn't around at the time. But it's really come on. Let's turn on some stuff and see the speakers. Do it works well. Then that's awesome my first reaction because i got rid of my kind of pants speakers some years ago because friend of mine needed them more than i did and i didn't have room in my apartment but i miss that i'm also an a. A permanent now that's smaller and kind of has a lot of weird angles and i find audio bounces off walls in wiz. That wouldn't if it was more of a square box broom So i'm not sure that i'm the perfect target market for this. You're the you're the one puts this through its paces and sees if it really works. Yeah if i could actually work as advertised again with some funny angles in a big old frame. Then i'm i'm really into this and i've always been. I don't have a sony. Tv currently sorry zony. But i was abroad. Bravi a person for years. Nears i think what the new bravi line is coming out with. Looks really nice. And i mean not totally in the market for a new tv. But i like the fact that i might get a new sony again paired up with a sony speaker. You got three six. Yeah already got all this stuff. It's going to be a messed anyway. You slice it. But i like. I like this to be sixty reality audio platform. What would you have set up in your house. I was straight up going to mention sonos because if if it doesn't have the connectability to be able to work with all of my other platforms that currently have invested in. Then chances are i wouldn't buy it. So i do have sono says in my house and i do have some issues connecting those with other speakers in the household to like like my google hub for example so the fact that this works with google and amazon assistant the speaker specifically The audio speakers. I think that's pretty cool. I like that. They are bringing that in and i am interested because i do live in a household. That has very high ceilings. How this would work in that kind of environment. So yeah. I'm very interested in the audio aspect. Well you might also be interested in what colour has come out. Oh yes the folks who make things like toilets and and sinks and lots of appliances however. Been a real. Cas mainstay for the last few years for some cool innovations and this year is no different. Even though we're not in vegas koehler has a new smart bathtub called the stillness bath. That lets you use an app or use your voice using google or amazon's assistance to fill up the water or perhaps set the mood by changing the color of the lights around the tab or even add some fog. You know you wanna kind of pretend like you're in the then present routines also turn on features in a certain orders if you wanna get kind of creative. that's cool. Yeah the certain amount of limitations with the base model and the base model is not cheap so temperature and depth control models alone will cost around eight thousand six hundred ninety eight dollars. That's right it's almost nine thousand dollar bathtub. If you want the experience tower that lets you activate fog and aromatherapy. That will run you just over ten thousand dollars. Both models are available in july. There are real things and if you want the version with lights and floor grades for overflow fifteen thousand nine hundred ninety eight dollars available. This october signed me off. I won't be buying those. Nope not even a little bit but we could have taken a bath at s in the new in the pre show roger was like. Why would you want fog. It's like this. Why does anyone want to be on. Yeah racist luxury suites in hotels for sure as well as apple's houses sure yeah something well. Yeah it's it's that like hey look at what my bath can do people go. Wow very fancy and then you know ten years from now will be like remember when we thought it was fancied to talk to your bathtub so that it would start filling up without touching it but Yeah it's it's somewhat silly because of the price. But i'm not really much of a bath person but they do look very nice all right. Let's check out the mail bag but ads do it. Nick wrote in with a pronunciation. Ramps own neck. You are not alone he says. Ac's rog is an initial list. Because it's our og like fbi or cia. People say ron yet. They're lower end gaming brand tough not initially them. It's an acronym like scuba or produce you f but pronounced off. It's like ace's can't make up their name minds. Then there's strict which is our subbrand strikes as a word it's a completely nonsensical made up word. But it's a word and you pronounce it as such nick as honestly as somebody. That buys a lot of hardware. Because i've rarely had a bad experience with them over the past twenty years. I am baffled by some branding decisions. The one the bugs me. The most is the strict subbrand. Sometimes acis makes the tricks products. The high end product in the product stock yet other times. It's a mid range product. Would it be too much to ask for consistency and product. Branding twenty twenty one. Yes apparently apparently we feel your pain. Nick i love the dichter's just like i just need to vent you guys. An Apple/Hyundai Car?

"Hundai has confirmed that it is in early discussions with apple on collaborating to develop a self driving car. But in case you're jumping ahead to apple may be buying hyundai or anything like that. This seems to be just a partnership right now and also hyundai says apple is talking to several carmakers about a bunch of things right now so quoting. Cnbc we understand. That apple is in discussions with a variety of global automakers including hyundai motor as the discussion is at its early stage. Nothing has been decided a representative from honda motor told. Cnbc's cherry king. The statement followed a local report from the korean economic daily. That said apple suggested the tie up and honda motor was reviewing the terms. The report said both electric vehicle production as well as battery development were included in the proposal. And that the car could potentially be released in two thousand twenty. Seven apple declined to comment on the report and quote at the exact same time in bloomberg mark. Gurman has a piece up saying yes. Apple is developing an autonomous electric vehicle. But the timeline for release. His sources say is five to seven years. Also this quote a key. Differentiator would be apple's ability to integrate. Its driving system a pricey initiative that has spurred the company to develop its own software sensor hardware chip technologies. The goal is to let a user input their destination and be driven there with little or no other engagement. According to the people familiar with the project apple doesn't manufacture its own products and it will likely take the same approach with a vehicle. It's unclear which company would assemble the car. Though in its first attempt about five years ago apple worked with engineers from magna international a major auto industry contract manufacturer apple has continued to investigate building. It's self driving car system for third party car partners rather than its own vehicle the people said and it could ultimately again abandoned. Its own car. Efforts in favor of this approach in assign it has now rebooted development of a vehicle apple in recent months shifted in executive known for his work on vehicle interiors and exteriors to its car team in twenty nine thousand nine apple hired former tesla engineering. Vice president steve macmanus but he initially worked on projects unrelated to the car. Now mcmanus leads a development. Group was several employees focused on car interiors fabrics car testing and vehicle manufacturing people with knowledge of the matter said he reports doug field a former top tesla vehicle engineer. Who runs the apple car project. Day to day apple also recently hired jonathan seve a vehicle engineer from bmw ag tesla and alphabets as a senior manager on the car projects in two thousand nineteen apple. "Branding it's just won't be made by l. g. This is similar to what nokia and blackberry do where another company doesn't just build them. I mean foxconn. Bill dapple phones right but apple designs them. Lg won't even design. These and other company will design that's why it's od 'em original design manufacturer and then sell the phones under the licensed brand name so all nokia and blackberries are made by other companies and sold under their names The lower and lg phones were already being made by other companies. Now the mid range ones will also be made by other companies as well still sold under the name l. g. will reduce its research and production positions and focused on premium smartphones cutting costs on the production of these mid range phones. So really trying to shave off their losses because l. has had twenty two consecutive quarters of losses in its mobile communications business I don't know that the high end phones are going to last much longer. Honestly given that. They're they're now down to number seven in market share. I think two thousand thirteen was the last time were in the top five. Yeah and the idea of cutting costs and other companies essentially make your your mid range and lower end phones the lg name on it at the end that that makes perfect sense. So lg sane. Okay well our flagship phones. Were still gonna handle that ourselves. Best of luck. Maybe maybe they will have some luck with this but would that many consecutive quarters of losses almost two. Gosh math is hard but twenty. Two consecutive quarters of losses as many years of losses It yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if lg just gets out of the Design manufacturing business totally at some point and keep in mind. There's there's a couple of different. Lg's there's lg display and lg electronics They they have some some connection at the very very top end of the corporate structure but there are essentially two different business. And and yeah they're gonna make more money licensing out the name than making these low end phones but not as much money as if they had successful phones. Yeah well speaking of successes. "When you talk to technology investors to themes come up. It just seemed time and time again. One is the cloud. Everything's going to the cloud, and that's gonna drive spending. From the Mexico jillion years, and the second one is five g. How this is the future of wireless even Apple. It got into the act this week, launching its iPhone 12 with its five capabilities. Let's get a sense of what this really means. And there's nobody better than Craig Moffett. Founding partner and senior analyst at Moffettnathanson. And if you want to know anything that's going on in the TMT space. You have to get the research from Moffettnathanson. He joints on the phone from New York. Craig, Thanks so much for joining us here. What did you make of Apple? The iPhone, 12 and just kind of five G in general. First of all, thank you for having me back on. Paul's good to talk to you again, you know? I would say this. I would say that, if anything, the Apple five G event, it sort of has been a little bit of an uncomfortable reminder for everybody that five G's not really fully baked yet. And the announcement has sort of forced everybody to come to grips with the idea that that right now five G is still very much ah, year or so away and And I thought there were all kinds of of cues about that in the Apple launch. So is it crazy? Hi, Craig. And I hope you're doing well. I do what I do wonder. You know, my husband was up at 8 a.m. or before that, you know, because he wanted to order his new apple iPhones. I swear to God and he stood up till three in the morning. You know, because when they open it all up, and he's gonna order my new phone When it comes out, I think in a week or two, and so, are we crazy? We've been kind of waiting for this. Our re crazy because five G isn't completely built out here. Well, if if five G is the reason that you're getting a new phone and yes, that's not, that's crazy. Just not ready yet. Thank you there. There are other reasons to get new phones and if if you like the new camera and that sort of thing And look handsome cycles have been lengthening for a long time. So there are an awful lot of old phones out there that need replacement anyway. But five G as a rationale. Justin and very compelling. I mean, here's the problem. And sorry if this is a little bit technical, but we love technical. If you deploy five g on on low frequency spectrum to get the coverage of the country, it's no faster than for G. If you deploy it in very high frequency spectrum and big spectrum blocks. It's very, very fast. They de mode that with Verizon, but it's hardly ever available. It's only available in something like 1% of the time that you're going to be on your phone because the propagation distances of the spectrum bands are so short. They're on Lee really usable and exceptionally dense cities and inside shopping malls and airports and arenas and stadiums and all the places where nobody is anymore because of cove. It And so the value proposition right now, just isn't there yet. You're going to end up with a phone that is essentially has a little five g light on it. Runs at about the same speed as Forgy and drains your battery faster, and that's not going to be compelling for very many people. So again, there may be other good reasons Why you want to get a new phone on the new iPhones are great looking But maybe you like the flat edges instead of the curved edges, But but it's not going to be because of five GS. All right. So Craig, given that I'm surprised or are you surprised that Apple rolled it out now, as opposed to awaiting typically, their strategy has been Hey, we don't need to be the first reading. The second will be there when there's a market. Well, to be fair. They've already waited. Samsung has had five G phones out for more than a year. And also remember that this is not just a U. S story. This is also a global story. And five G is a little bit further along in China and Korea and Japan. Using same chipsets by and large, So although interestingly, the US chips the US Apple devices are the only ones that will actually support millimeter wave spectrum. And that's a real compromise. It gives you those blindingly fast speeds, but It's again not available much of anywhere except a little bit of New York and a handful of other very dead cities. In the U. S. But again drains your batteries so so fast generates a lot of heat on DH, So they've decided not even not even put that in the handsets that they're making for overseas markets. You popped my bubble and I've gotta say marker men was also writing our mark Gurman here, Bloomberg wrote about you know, apple getting ready to launch and then we've got this unready U. S markets so Horizon T T Mobile, So as we're waiting for them to kind of really roll it out in a big way. Five g When will they? What are we all waiting for? Is it just They don't want to make the investment yet. What's holding it up? Well, there's a couple of things, but I said a minute ago low frequency spectrum for broad coverage but not high speed, high frequency spectrum for high speed but insufficient coverage. That obviously leaves the broad middle and the broad middle predictably, is mid band spectrum. Right now. T Mobile has a huge advantage and head start and that they have a very large block of of mid band spectrum that they acquired in the sprint acquisition. In fact, you can make a good case. That's really the whole reason they bought Sprint was to get that spectrum. That will be the support for the first really credible five G network in the United States and T Mobile will have a big advantage that could well last for years. Verizon will probably catch up asleep to a degree. When they buy a big chunk of spectrum later this year. Everyone seems to be quite certain that they will buy what's called sea Band Spectrum, which is going to be auctioned by the FTC in December. But that will take them a couple of years before they get it and then fully deploy it, and even then it's probably not going to have quite the same reach and coverage that T Mobile will enjoy. And the real challenge is going to be a t right balance. She is in so much trouble. That's just not clear. They have the money to be able to buy a significant amount of spectrum or to build it out at the pace that's going to be required to keep pace with Verizon and T. You had a Verizon and T Mobile. You have cute us up for where we want to go next. So sit tight, Crais. We've just got to do a little bit of news here. But we want to come come back and continue this conversation. American like ship. This podcast to my husband so that he was in terms of the different services are we continue with Craig Moffett, founder and senior analyst at Moffatt, Nathan said. He is so well known as he should be to our audience in the telecom world will get back to him in just a moment. Right now, though, back to all the national News headlines.

I'm Charlie pellets. That's a Bloomberg business Flash. Right, Charlie. Thank you so much. Well, it was a big day. A lot of people were working hard. Few people were working harder, though. Then Mark Gurman Tech reporter for Bloomberg because it was an Apple day, its first major product launch. Event of 2020. Of course, if you're Mark Gurman, you're listening and watching this and going yet reported that yet reported that yes, I knew that was coming. He joins us on the phone from Los Angeles. All right, So what were the surprises today? MG? Face it. I'm gonna have to hire you as my agent too kind. No surprises today. The big announcement today, however, were the apple on Sirius six. The Apple Watch, See? The new iPad Air and Apple one subscription bundles. Personally, I think that the iPad air was the fanciest. Yeah. I think it basically cannibalizes the entry level iPad pro, and I think they're going to sell a lot of them. Tell us about that, Because I was. I was looking at some of your reporting and Ian King's post on the top Live blogged, which was taking his tick by tick. It's an interesting device it as you say it sort of goes a little bit upmarket into where they had been with the pro. It's exactly right. So the iPad pro squared off all screen design without the home button two years ago. Another iPad air is getting that Instead of a face recognition sensor face, I'd It's actually getting such idea in the power button, and obviously, with masks, space ideas less useful, so putting such ideas The power button on the side of the device is actually really interesting and useful and its $200 less in the iPad pro with not many of the features missing. I think it's a great product. Yeah, This is interesting. And what about the watch? I've got the second generation. I'm getting a little old here. I mean, are the upgrades Are they substantial from watch to watch? This year? No, actually, I will tell you the lot. This year's upgrade was very minor over last year's last year's upgrade was very minor over the year before Thiss year. They're basically adding Two things a 20% faster processor. Which is not much of a speed increase. I believe a few years ago, they claimed a 50% of 100% speed increase when the blood oxygen reader right that is another health sensor that helps give the apple lots of more comprehensive look. The overall health how you're doing, but it's not some sort of mainstream sensor like the rial, you know. Gold, in addition, would be able to eventually add blood sugar glucose monitoring because they're obviously are millions of people across the world. But that is very important. But we are A ways away from there. All right, so mark looking across your portfolio of interest. It was interesting to me to see when Apple rolls out there much more enhanced sort of fitness play. Saletan shares dropped. They still ended up up on the day, but they went down noticeably when that announcement rolled out, help us understand it in the context of what paella tons doing now, But what Apple is going to be doing when it comes to the fitness world? Yes. So they're squaring off telethon in these online virtual fitness classes. This is exactly what pellets on offers for its devices. Helton offers on different top boxes like Amazon and the phone and such. The difference here is that telethon. It interacts with its own equipment, and basically, in some cases require their own equipment. But its platform agnostic in the sense that you can get it on any set top box. You can get it on any type of smartphone, whereas Apple system is very specific to Apple product at $10 a month, So I think they'll be some people who really are fitness fans and work out bus and are gonna want both people are gonna want both. They're going to want to use the use it with their apple walks. They're going to want to use it with their pellets on And you mention Jason, the market is up after that, you know, announcement I feel like some people might think. Well, I should be down. But But Apple launching this service does it sort of validates the base in the area That telethon is in, and it's possible that the Apple Service will Have more people. More customers of technology learned that these types of products exist, they might see that they might see pellets on devices. And so this Apple service could inspire more people to buy a palace on bikes and Fred melt. On top of that. The latest Beltran equipment works at the Apple Watch. So yeah, I got to say coming off of the virus Mark. I do think that fitness is one of those things that I'll send. People are like, Well, I can easily kind almost have you know my fitness classes or I can You know, do it from home so easily. I feel like that's going to be a big change. And this is something that apple Khun definitely kind of leverage here. Totally agree with that. So I think it's good for both companies. To be honest. Yeah, Mark, did we learn anything about Apple TV? An Apple TV plus because I feel like that's been a laggard here only got about a minute left. I think, been asking about a watch. That's what I'm in and out of watching mean about the next phone. Okay, I'll hit both real quick. So Apple TV, an apple TV, plus nothing new. I don't believe the new TV box will hit till next year. They did launch the Apple one bundles, which does sort of decreased The price of Apple TV, plus any subscribed to multiple services on the iPhone question. No iPhones today. Obviously, those will be announced toward the end of October. Start shipping at the end of next month and through November will be a big upgrade with five g. That's the phone we want, right? There He goes thinking you brought it all together. He brought it all home. We need to worry about Mark Gurman. He's got it covered. If you want to know what's going on, You just need to read his stuff. You don't need to wait for announcements. All right, Mark Gurman. Thank you. So much Tech reporter for Bloomberg. Johnny's on the phone from l. A comprehensive look of everything we heard from Apple with little pellet on thrown in there as well. All right, for those of you listening in New York. And said Francisco watching on YouTube. Bloomberg BusinessWeek continues here If you're listening on Bloomberg, 99 1 in DC Sound on with Kevin surly that's coming up next. We've got some interesting stuff coming up here sitting on Apple and fitness. I think that's really interesting. Hey, I think there's like they're ready. Let's content, though, right in order to make it work they are and they haven't been so good on the counter. That was one of the reasons that I was asking about the Apple.
