They also have fewer assets than gen xers in the at the same age. So what's going on? Journalists Mark elwood joined WTO's Mark Lewis to explain this phenomenon. Essentially, what's happened to them is they are hitting that crisis in midlife and they don't have the assets that the previous generations had to indulge when their panicking. So they're having to panic in a whole new way. They graduated into a recession so they didn't do so well early on in their careers and they're reaping the rewards now or rather not reaping the rewards. What is different in terms of how they're reacting at this age? What aren't they doing compared to those who are older? Well, I think when you picture a midlife crisis, I think you time walk back to the 60s. You think about Don Draper and you imagine a white middle class man having an affair on buying a car, right? These people, they don't get a tattoo as an axe rebellion. They might remove one because almost the majority of millennials have a tattoo. They don't have the money to buy a car, but they're going to go on a vacation, a hiking vacation, try and test themselves physically instead of splurging on a little compensation in car form. Is this panic time for them? Good question. I think they are feeling pressures like everyone in middle age. But the issue is that they're more than ever the sandwich generation. They had kids later, their parents are getting older. And so their panicking because they're poorer and there are more drains on their resources. So I think anyone would panic in most circumstances. Makes you wonder what this possibly means down the road when they're looking at retirement? Is there also a challenge with their nest eggs? Oh, totally. And again, if everyone's assets, you look at all the data around millennials, they are behind previous generations in terms of any assets they've accrued. We talk about getting onto the housing ladder. That's much harder for them. The provision was championed by Oregon Democrat Ron wyden, he's also pushing to make it so ongoing marijuana use is not the basis for denying or losing a clearance. Today, cleared individuals can still expect to forfeit their clearance due to ongoing pot use, even if it's legal in the state where they live. "Your free estimate today It's 6 11 The president of the Virginia Senate calling on the governor Clinton youngkin to ban Russian vodka from ABC state store Senate Democrat Louise Lucas of Portsmouth says strong action is needed to support Ukraine and all Russian products should be removed from state liquor stores immediately Her idea quickly gathered support including that of Virginia Senate Democrat Adam Evan of Alexandria We can do a small part by hurting their economy and starting perhaps other states to stop selling Russian vodka and products that would be something that will feel Governor Glenn youngkin said on Thursday Russia must be held accountable for its unprovoked attack on Ukraine And a union Montgomery county calling on the county executive there Mark elwood to also ban Russia and brand vodka Stay tuned Global markets immediately affected by Russia's invasion of Ukraine oil prices stopping a $100 a barrel for the first time since 2014 Situation in Eastern Europe also will likely affect other prices as well CBS News business analyst Joe schlesinger talk to WTO's Mark and GG about how this is going to affect your budget Well I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news because before the invasion we knew that the average price for gallon of regular gas was at $3 and 54 cents And that's nationally Prices up by 20% from a month ago nearly 90 cents from a year ago and I think it really does depend on how long the uncertainty lasts because if we see crude oil go above 100 and then charge towards one 20 we could be looking at another ten 20 even 50 cents per gallon but it really does depend how long this period of uncertainty lasts And what will all this mean for the current skyrocketing inflation Yeah this is not great news When we look at the core CPI we always strip out food and energy but that's not real life Real life is food and energy and everything else So I think that headline CPI number of 7 and a half percent looks like it's heading higher Again depending on how long it lasts but I thought that economists were saying well we could drift a little bit higher before coming down A little bit higher was 8% Now we could be looking at a 9% print on in CPI And the problem is that the prices are not going to go down as quickly as they went up And that's the big complaint among consumers It's why there are a lot of worries around wage growth that wage growth is great but it still has to grow fast enough to keep pace with the high level of prices The Federal Reserve has plans to increase interest rates How is this going to affect that plan Well it does put them in a bit of a bind I mean there were some Federal Reserve officials who were talking a little bit about maybe they would do maybe a 50 basis point increase at the March meeting A half a percentage point I don't think that's going to be on the table now I think a quarter of one percentage point will be what we see in March The feds in a tough position though because they don't want to raise rates too much because that could tip us into a recession And that is CBS News business analyst Joe schlesinger Sports is next.
