"So great you're buying it better prices, theoretically. And hopefully you're buying assets that weren't necessarily available to you before when the markets were so robust and there was this great demand. But Mark, you said the best time to buy was 2008. And a lot of that, I mean, going back to, I think, a very famous call made by Norway's major state fund, is that you just, you buy tech in 2008 and you do super well for, I think, up until now, really. And I'm wondering, but one of the biggest kind of tailwinds for that trade was that tech was really using a lot of the cash that they had in terms of acquisitions, which brings me back to the M and a story. You have so much cash on these tech balance sheets. They're not able to spend it because of the antitrust scrutiny. So how do you make any sense of that? So you brought up a couple of points. You're right. Antitrust is probably my view, the biggest issue headwind issue that we have in M and a or one of the biggest issues, certainly. Obviously the economy between the other macroeconomic conditions obviously be being very important. As it relates to tech tech buyers doing roll up strategies, I don't think that stopping, which often about larger transactions now. And as you do tuck ins and you see it happen all the time. And they're continuing to do them. Now antitrust is the big issue. And that won't stop in my view. And you're right. That was a great opportunity for success and you're right 2008 because it was a down year and it was a tough year, obviously. Great Recession. That was a great time to be a buyer. And I'm not suggesting it's not now a great time to be a fire, but there are a lot of considerations. Mark, does it become a better time to be a buyer? In the remainder of 2023 or 2022, rather than into 2023, let me know what's your call for this moving forward. So I think it's a good time, I think, you have to be selective. And no one knows, are we in a recession or are we going to be in a recession? What's the demand profile going to look like going forward? How business is going to perform so far earnings have been good for Q two? I'm bullish long term. And I don't know what long term means. So my attitude about buying is this is probably a pretty good time to buy. If you've got staying power at a long hold period, and strategics obviously do. And if they're doing something that is additive to the business, that has savings and synergies that pushes themselves. Right. In a positive direction and the answer is yes. And some financial buyers, they are continuing to invest. They're not stopping. Mark, we only have 20 seconds left. Tell us some industries to keep an eye on. I think it's across the board. I think healthcare seems to be seems to be active, industrials seem to be active, business services, which is a great middle market business. For private equity and then finally, I think tech will continue to be important. All right, Mark Cooper, CEO of Solomon partners this afternoon joining us on the phone from New York City talking all things M and a, really appreciate you taking the time and joining us this afternoon, Mark. "Business flash. Thank you so much for that update Charlie pellet. Really appreciate it. When we talk about the health of the market, we not only look at the equity market and bond market, of course. But we also look at trends that we've seen this year. IPOs, M and a, and what's actually happening in the space. And it was interesting because in the first half of 2022, we saw quite the decline when it came to when it came to IPOs and new deals. We are still seeing some M and a activity. I mean, what comes to mind last week is the frontier sprint merger getting dropped and then JetBlue coming in and being the company that comes in and tries to make that acquisition. Let's get an update on the health of M and a right now. Mark Cooper is CEO at Solomon partners, mark this afternoon joins us on the phone from New York City Mark, how are you? Doing pretty well. How are you? Doing pretty well. So if we were doing this conversation a year ago, I think our conversation would be a lot different because we would be coming off of this quarter first half of the year that was just so hot when it came to M and a when it came to IPO spacs were on the decline because 2020 was kind of the peak for that. So we saw that coming. Help us understand where we are right now though, as we get into August of 2022. I think we're in a reasonably good market. You can't look at 2021 and compare it to anything. It's a. Once. It's a once in a generational market for M and a. It was hitting on all cylinders for all kinds of reasons, which no need to go into right now. But the fact of the matter is, yes, we're off considerably from last year. But we're tracking only modestly down in 2019, which would be the first sort of comparable clean year, if you will, which was a very good year. Are they different? Mark, are they different types of deals happening this year than last year? Well, yes, I think you're seeing more going private transactions and that would be natural given stock prices have been lower. I think you're seeing a higher percentage of transactions being done by private equity buyers And interestingly enough, you're seeing probably more in volume of mega transactions in these old last year. Now that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with macroeconomic conditions, it could be everything about just specific transactions like Musk buying Twitter for 44 billion that could move the needle pretty significantly. But the private equity community still has, I don't know, trillion and a half dollars of excess capital around and one interesting aspect of the market fiscal around versus 2008 is the whole private credit market. It's the debt markets. So traditionally, stock markets went down as they did and interest rates go up as they are, the public debt markets just closed down. They shut. Which happened to happen for a couple of weeks or a couple of months. This year. But what really is going on is the private credit markets are stepping in and picking up the slack. And the private credit markets don't care as much about near term volatility with big care about is credit and return on capital. So while interest rates going up slightly, it's still working. Well, speaking of interest rates going up slightly slightly, I feel like an understatement. But isn't there this incentive built into the market here that if, I mean, I think a 5 year old could say this. If you're, say, allowance is worth less tomorrow, given an inflationary environment. It makes sense to spend it today. Hold on, you're saying that a toddler can do time value of money. I'm saying you can tell if you're three and a half year old's got a way to go. Can you give your three daughter do this stuff? No. Okay. Come on. All right, this is like business school stuff. Keep continue, please. Thank you. If you give a child a quarter and say this quarter is not going to get you a Rubik's Cube or a candy bar or whatever tomorrow they're going to say I have to spend it today. It's true. It's the cold. I'm clearly thinking to a different answer. Anyways, Mark, my point is that there's so much cash on the balance sheets right now. This is going to be worth less tomorrow, just give them the inflationary environment. Why aren't we seeing more M and a? Well, you got to be careful with that concept. It's worth less tomorrow unless you invest it well, right? So the answer is corporations are going to essentially do M and a because they think it's the best because they think it is a simply a good way to return on their capital. I mean, the course rate return comes into play, but they're looking at strategic issues. They're looking at do they have more better investment opportunities within their existing business. So they look at a whole period of things. They're also looking at the health of their business. And frankly, the flip side to your argument is, with inflation as it is, consumer demand dropping and the consumer driven companies means that could suggest that they're going to have a fall off in their business. And so they might want to be conservative. Now, to the ultimate point is, if you look back on 2008, that was a great time to be a buyer. Because when do you want to buy? You want to buy when things

"Are losing employees. Equally restaurants bars and hotels are shedding workers at a particularly high rate. About one in five of those resigned. August walked out of hospitality sector jobs. Some weighed their options and departed for higher paying gigs. While others left the industry entirely after serving the gauntlet of kovin. Many restaurant owners and operators are feeling the effects of the resulting worker shortage. My name is gregory. Leon i'm the chef and owner of melinda. A small independently owned spanish. Or portuguese aspired restaurant in downtown milwaukee shefty on told us that due to staffing challenges he's been unable to restore pre pandemic hours of operation the war shortages killing us. I'm currently the only one in the kitchen. So i come in to all the desserts and then prep all three stations in. I've been lucky enough. That some of my colleagues have friends have been able to come in and step in on fridays and saturdays and help cook with the line. There's a smaller pool of people looking for jobs. A smaller pool of employees for us to bring into the restaurant and not only. Are we doing that. But we're also competing with restaurants who did receive the our app and so these russell received the arab. They're able to pay their employees seventeen. Eighteen twenty dollars an hour for. I cannot afford that right now. Based on business the restaurant revitalization fund or are f- gave out grants to eligible food businesses during the pandemic but the funding was not enough eighty five percent of restaurant and bar. Applicants were unable to secure a grant meaning restaurant owners. Like gregory are left with little outside help and plenty of stress. Well on my hair a lot grayer now and it's probably falling added faster rate than it was before because we've had him on a fireman menus a lot smaller right now than it normally would be pet. Simplify some of our dishes Just because you know there's only so much. One person can prevalent especially when the went station And our guest. It's affecting our guests experience there having to wait a little bit longer for food. And then you run the risk of upsetting the guest of having to guests not come back and it's just the other staff members the other part of the house stop and this is not just a problem in wisconsin. Times are tough in neighboring chicago as well. I'm michael scott. Co owner and president of guinea done restaurants in chicago. Karnataka's over pond describes himself as distinctly and unapologetically mexican visit the website and right next to the expected buttons for menu catering and locations is link to submit your application to work at the restaurant. We've been fortunate that were able to relate retain a lot of block type staff albeit. You know working with reduced ours. You know really not a hundred percent back to pre pandemic levels. But i have noticed that the vacancies that we have had Have taken an extremely long time to fill you. Know pre pandemic. I would put a job and usually be able to find someone you know. Pretty well qualified for a position within five days The last position that i fill took me well over a month to find someone and you know it's it's never really been that bad. It's really tough to compete as a small independent restaurant. You know some of the bigger employers out there that are offering higher and higher starting salaries for essentially the same labor pool and even for restaurants and not struggling with staffing issues. Many other challenges remain due to the pandemic. My name is zanuck. Otane and i'm the owner of both lido and dixie. That are on frederick. Douglass boulevard in harlem in manhattan. Susannah told us that she had to deal with a lot of cova related red tape with city officials. We've been able to get by on our sometimes. It's a little tight but we've been leaving lucky that a lot of people came back when we were open. Full swing you know. New york city continues to be really really difficult to have a small business end and been amount of inspectors that come in just a surprise visit and i just had somebody come in. The other day was literally in a meeting with a bank regarding alone in somebody came in handy paper. That said i had to take my outside houses down from the department of transportation and it was just such a shock in devastating because we spend a ton of money on that and that's a huge source of revenue for us right now and you know we're still trying to dig out of a hole from the pandemic and it's not just the restaurants in their owners who are struggling workers in the food service industry faced long hours late nights and sometimes low pay minimal benefits and hostility from customers and even for managers in may twenty twenty one survey from one fair wage and the uc berkeley food labor research center. A majority of restaurant workers said they're leaving due to low wages and tips. The next ranked reasons people left their restaurant. Jobs were covert health risks and concerns of hostility or harassment. And when we put out the question to you out there about whether restaurant worker shortages are affecting you. Here's what some of you to say. Hey it's mark cooper callers law rock arkansas. The worker shortage has affected me but not in the way that you would expect to our contributed to the worker shortage. Pandemic hit the restaurant bar. Business ice bar manager and a bartender. I walked away from it. I i knew that my state wasn't going to do anything to help. Support bartenders or restaurants. During the pandemic. I was right and now works for the united states post office. I name is doreen. O'donnell and i live in grants pass. Oregon small restaurant bar called speakeasy and we have had a hard time. keeping employees. And their hispanics has been many times where we've had to shut down because we didn't have the people to work. Hi my name. Is rachel wilson and giggle waters in safety harbor florida. We've really bounced back from a volume perspective. Since the shutdown. I mean the lines are out the door. People are ready to go out. They want to have a fun out. There there to support us but staffing is a bear right. Now i've never seen anything like it. We've increased our our wages We're doing all we can to attract the right people. I posting everywhere for job fairs. We may get one or two people who show up for interviews and then hopefully one of them will actually come in and start. We've gone to a saturday night with ten servers on. Now we'll going with me before sometimes. Now even as we hear those voices of the restaurant industry it's critical to understand the ways kovin exacerbated issues already. Plaguing restaurant workers for decades. The policy of sub minimum wage for tipped workers means many servers earn as little as two thirteen per hour before tips and because servers rely on tips in an industry. That's not required to provide for a living wage. He workers find themselves enduring astonishing levels of harassment. So rude jayaraman is president of one fair wage director of the food labor research center at the university of california berkeley and is author of one fair wage. "We asked about your thoughts on the man and his legacy first time. I heard colin powell to peak in the late eighty. I would have voted for him for president after that day. So unfortunate to know that after such a committed an intelligent person had to quit his conservative party. Hi it's pro. Casper com san mateo california i very much of mired colin powell. I believe in public service. And i think one of the best modern examples. That we have name is keith filmon from salem oregon and over the years i developed a very healthy respect for colin powell right up until the second iraq war. I still have a lot of respect for colin powell but it will always be yes lots of respect but and at least. He had the courage to admit he was wrong. This is andy. Weiner from charleston south carolina and colin powell was a man who cared about the country and never put his own Ambition above honesty. He was an honest broker of the truth and that could be used a lot today. Hey it's mark cooper in little rock. Arkansas colin powell was the embodiment of what every politician statesman should be. I in many different situations He and i both have heavy heavy debate but he sat shoulder that class and grace and style and with a strength of character. That people understood to know that although he was graceful although he did have clash although he did carry himself with dignity that he was not want to be trifled with can only hope to have the legacy even just one part of the legacy that he has left behind and for his family for those who are close to him. "Play, calling on throwing the ball that much didn't Plan on throwing it that many times and never questioned. My health are being able to throw it 50 times or how it filled out there. And I know all the work that I've put in over the offseason through training camp, just everything that I expected to go out there and be able to leave it all out on the field and do whatever I need to do to help this team or give us a fighting chance. 40 to 58 403 yards and three touchdowns for Dak Prescott did have one pretty ugly interception. Did he did, But my God, what a game of Mark Cooper had 13 receiving 13 receptions? Yeah. 139 yards and two touchdowns. He was great. Last night at CD. Lamb only had seven. But seven is still good in the game. The lamb, a little little little shaky on the drugs there. Yeah, you put a couple on the ground. Now, look, he made several big plays and still a second year player. Uh, he's got speed and explosiveness all the things Remember when Jerry drafted him sitting on the yacht and he's grinning ear to ear like I see all the stuff and I look, you don't have to tell us we Texas fans remember him. You know, in the Red River rivalry running circles around Texas, he's great catchable for me See the lamp. Um, Ari Cooper's good Look, Michael Gallup had a very good game going until he went out with an ankle injury. This team on offense is so unbelievably talented, but a real breakthrough night for me, Uh, with that, Prescott, the quarterback position at you were concerned because he didn't play in the preseason. I watched that I missed 11 games last year and played over 333 days. Are your doubts put to rest. Yeah, they are put to rest because he took some hits. Last night, he scrambled efficiently left to his left to his right. Yeah, and his arm didn't fall off so after after 58 passes last year, I would say he doesn't look to have the same pep in his step that he maybe once had that's fine, and I don't I also am not positive that his arm is back to 100%. He seemed to be floating the ball a little bit, but I thought I played great. As a matter of fact. Not only am I not not concerned about him recovering from the injury. It was a true breakthrough for me as a Cowboys fan, because I'm always been a little down on him. Like when we were going through the whole contract. Negotiation. Are you going to pay this guy $40 million a year? You know, if you ask the Ask me truthfully, I would say he was the 11 12 13 best quarterback in the league, and No, I think he is. I think he's in the tier right under Pat Mahomes. Listen, I think I would put him right alongside of Josh Allen. Tom Brady was great. Last night. I thought to the NDP is so great, but that had more yards than he did, and I think Dak and the offense Outplayed the Tampa Bay offense, but Tampa Bay you know, it's obvious when they kick the field goal, cowboy. They left way too much time on the clock for Tom Brady. Good gosh. And Tom Brady's last three passes just he didn't need He's in there. All right, running the clock out for suck up, so I think this submits My prediction in your predictions, the Cowboys will win the NFC East. If they continue at this level play and are injury free at key positions, because what we saw last night was pretty awesome from that offense. Defense had some moments, but Michael Parsons good player, Parsons again. He was confused A couple of times. Well, that's first game in the NFL. No, I was I was satisfied with how the defense but look, you're playing Tom Brady. And the world champion Buccaneers. Who, uh, it may have been said by somebody on this program a year ago that Rob Gronkowski was washed up and no longer a contributor would say that you would say that the guy that never gets anything wrong. That guy, Uh Man. He looked good. Uh, he'd grant had two touchdowns in the game last night, man. Chris Collinsworth would not stop taking rock made one correct. Read on the play. And he was talking about what a football some Well, it was pretty smooth that they looked. And they had that community communications. Yeah, that was a great player. But honestly, I mean that offense. I mean to hold. Obviously you hold him to 31. That's not not great. Look. Antonio Brown five years ago was the best wide receiver in football, and he's there. Number three guy now. Yeah. Chris Godwin is good. Chris Colin, Probably not not the best game for him, dropped a long one and then fumbled there at the end of the game could have sealed together game on that. Kevin's Yeah, G. We had some funky things where they were tipped, and he just He lost concentration, right. Trayvon digs Cowboys corner shut him down, but I mean, that team is just, uh it's just littered with offensive weapons. And so if the Cowboys can keep them, you know, stay in the game with Them on defense. I think that's that's all you can ask of them. Yeah, Look, it's a loss for Dallas. But my hopes are are sky high. Now, this team, you know, playing them that close and on in their building was great, uh, was and they had, and I thought, Oh God, that last strike in the next last drive by Tampa Bay when they're going in for the touchdown. Cowboys made that beautiful play where they knocked the ball out. You know, I thought, Oh, this is this is it's meant to be. It's meant to do that. They'll go down and they'll get a touchdown. But, uh, we'll hear the and, uh, probably still, I mean the defense, but the Most worrisome factor about this Cowboys team, their head coach Mike McCarthy. Well, you mean J. What do you mean on Mike over there with the headset on And look, I don't even know what that guy does, because it's pretty clear that he didn't like his overriding any calls. Tell him or is is putting together the game plan a couple of times. You know, they're down in the red zone. I think it was 1/4 and three uh, maybe was 1/4 and goal from the three. Something like that where they decided to kick the field. Goal back. Look over. Remember that over? Should I look, I'm not gonna I'm sure Mike McCarthy is going to make way worse decisions this year..

If you're Ben Simmons, you can't argue any point They made their all right. But he will. Oh, God, It's the organization's fault. They don't believe in me. Someone else's fault. Get me out of Philadelphia. Stock up Shaq and Charles. I know CD. Lamb has a receiving touchdown, and that was a Point that you suggested. Right? Go start CD lamb over Antonio Brown Wall. Tampa just took back the lead that had to be at least a 40 plus yard strike to Antonio Brown for a touchdown Pretty. It is insane. I know everyone goes. Oh, you know, Birdie, you're being homer, blah, blah, blah, blah, like, dude, The dude is 44. He's got three passing touchdowns in the first half. And he just threw a 50 yard bomb to Antonio Brown. This dude is the definition the definition. Of fine wine. He just gets better and better with age. Give a stock up the T V 12 Dak 1st 1st half to. He has to passing touchdowns. 212 CD, Lamb one to Mark Cooper. And how about Gronk Godwin? And a B and on the scoring stock up all around T J Walk up here today, T J Walk got paid a whole lot of money, a four year extension worth more than $112 million.28 million per year. 80 million fully guaranteed at signing and he could have got more money, he told his agent. In place of Zack Martin. He's solid, but he's not Zack Martin is going to go on against Democrats too big a V. You're not going to bang your head against the wall and one week of metal. So, yeah, we're gonna try to get the ball out. Do some everything most importantly going to get find a way to get the ball playmakers an outside because that's where the Cowboys think they have an advantage when they know they have that Mark Cooper. Uh, CD Lamb and Michael Gallup. Murray Cooper. We know the number one receiver PT Lab is going to be a buddy superstar in 2021. We're talking clearance sale from Fort Worth Star Telegram. Cowboys writer there you can check them out. So, Clarence Give me your assessment on how the organization feels at this point about Mike McCarthy as a head coach, realizing that he did. He went through months of last season without the back. Well, you know, they're trying to give him a Mulligan, You know, and they're trying to say he didn't have deck and they had the pandemic and you know where I'll be lost their tackles and sold on paper. They're saying all the right things. You know that that we have Plenty of faith. The magma Cross didn't get it done. But let's be honest. This is Dallas Cowboys who brought her to win. They thought they were going to have a playoff contender Superga tip of last year if they don't do that this year. Mike McCarthy is on how sick you know there was never going to be a a honeymoon, and it was always to come in and win. Now they thought they have the talent and the team to win under Jason Garrett. One reason why they fired him. They brought him Mike McCarthy because he is a proven winner. They could win now, so this is not about taking four or five years to win. It's about winning now, and he used to do that this year. It feels to me like there is a balance between the expectations of those who are just excited about Dak and Zeke has lost weight and well, now that we've figured out the defense sucked, we went out and got people were good now and then maybe those who are not sold on there being a big difference between the Dallas team we saw last year this year, particularly because even when they were mostly healthy, it was an eight and eight squad. Um What do you think the team itself and and Jerry Jones expects out of this season? What would be a Success to them. Oh, but certainly from the Cowboys perspective, and they think they were much better than the eight and 18 last year, and certainly they got off to a bad start. They want great one bag with Filipe, but they would Blamed it on self inflicted wounds, You know, but you take out the stuff inflicting all take out the turnovers. Zika is better that's going to take care of the ball, you know. Kellen Moore said it best They can have the number one offense in the league. That's the gold have number one. Obviously, they have to the Moon Office league and they can stop somebody. I couldn't stop. But that was the last year they could stop some better this year. And go from 31 or 32 to the middle of the pack. They certainly think they're the best team in the east. It's like they can, you know? When a couple of playoff games really make a soup Bowl one for the first half of 1995, because that's the goal. They don't hang Division title better at 18. C. Take a TNT State. Of course, there have any better they stadium because they've won anything but the focus is always trying to win a Super Bowl. And can I get on the road to winning the Super Bowl? That's the goal. He's off the pre-game injury report. He was listed a full participant on wednesday. Even though they technically did not have a full practice estimation of as far as the report goes but he appeared on tuesday with a quad issue and again. This is why. I say you don't really know if it's truly an injury or something that the team is monitoring and so proactively. They're limiting the number of reps for player again going into a thursday night game if he's experiencing anything they're not gonna want him to practice on tuesday so i took this as more of them. Being cautious and everything about kris godwin looks a full speed ahead for thursday night. Okay that's good. News for chris gaba and the entire bucks offense thing is that if the bucks didn't have chris cowan they'd be so depleted right. Because they'd have to turn it to mike evans antonio brown and scotty miller and tyler johnson and rob gronkowski. Geo bernard finally they catch a break most pass catcher splits. Let's begin with tom brady. Who begins his twenty second. Nfl season tonight of the goat. Goats cracks everybody. Well no daniel once again the odd man out here. I haven't five. Mike cosmic four. Dale hasn't been eight. I think we feel good about tom. Brady i know a little bit lower. That's okay but the strategy or the way in which tom brady reaches high fantasy. Potential is not going to be ever with his legs can be with his arms mike. This was one of the worst secondaries in the nfl last year. and it's hard to imagine this team. It may be improved offensively. But i don't think it's going to be dramatically improved to the point that it scares you. Yeah the quarterback situation very similar. They added a lot of safety and lot of safety and linebacker turnover. This you're gonna see some new faces in the mix but overall defense. We expect to struggle again this season. And there's going to be a lot of pressure on them because offense is so good they're going to score a lot of points and this is actually the game. I have as he second highest projected game this week so expect a lotta throwing against a shaky defense on all. I think it's going to be a good day for tom. Brady think he's a top. Five option is a. It's a great matchup. First week of the season you gotta figure that teams with continuity tend to be a little bit better prepared to sort of kick things off with prem- peak efficiency. It's the buccaneers. Tom brady are starting him. Let's get to the running back though. Like because we run on jones and leonard fournette. None of us except for daniel has any other of those two in the top thirty day. You'll has letters porn all the way up at thirty. So none of his feel great about this and i don't know it's gonna change this year right like it's possible possible that one of them takes the lead back role. I continue to believe that if it's one of them it's ronald jones. Think he's the more talented pure runner at this point. But it's brazilians head coach. He's been doing this for a long time. He's fickle it's on a criticism. It's a fact it's ronald jones runs for one hundred yards in the first half. Fumbles at the end of the second quarter. We don't see again to the following week. That's just how things roll in tampa bay matt situation for. Sure i think it's going to be very reminiscent of what we've seen with the patriots in the past right. I mean you think about four net last year right. He was probably their best fantasy option at running back. He had four top twenty four weeks for them for now. Now jones who already didn't do much as a pass catcher and four net. Who actually got a lot of value from basically doubling up ratio in targets. During the weeks they played together is gonna lose that as well. We're going to see a ton assuming he plays which i think he probably will. It's going to lean that direction. Giovanni bernard is going to be the guy that handles a lot of that passing down work. So where does you know. How does it work out for four net and jones to be fantasy relevant. I mean the one of them has to get fifteen touches or someone has to score a touchdown. It's going be tough this year. And that's why we have them rank solo. It's possible that again. Three of the best offenses football don't have a top fifteen running back over week between the bills. The chiefs and the bucks. The chiefs probably. I think we're all hopeful. They have at least one. They have a top fifteen running back and clyde edward dealer. But it's possible that none of them do it just the way. The nfl moved. You've got these teams that are throwing it to set up the run and throwing it to set up more throwing the football and when you're in tampa bay. You got plenty of options to throw the football to. Which includes mike evans. Plus chris godwin plus antonio brown. That's why they throw set up to throw. Because they have my kevin's chris. Donate so mike evans inside the top. Ten tweet belabor this one dollar no no evans ninth for me godwin. Seventeenth brand brown's closer. I mean we could talk about him. I was just gonna evans pacific. Oh evan specifically yeah. I mean the one thing i'll throw out here and mean. This is more of a season-long staff. But i don't know if we talked about it much. They play ten full games together last year and brown in breath review. Include if include. Playoff games evans in those games. I if you look at points per games. Because we're we're counting playoff game. So fantasy points per game evans was wide receiver. Ten if you extrapolate over all of last season godwin twenty eighth brown thirty th so godwin you know. We might need a little more volume boost and touchdowns evans could potentially lose some this season. It makes you a little nervous season-long wise but i think this week against the secondary but the matchup they have again should be a high volume game. I think all systems go for evans and godwin. Okay so good for evans. Good for godwin's antonio brown's more conversation. I think you know matthew and i have described him as potentially valuable of all values and fantasy this year. He's a guy that during the two thousand ten's was the best wide receiver and fantasy by a significant margin. Mike you shook your head like i was well actually not like i was an idiot because we know i am like you rely on the fact. Well i mean. It's disrespectful to antonio gibson and logan thomas that he's the value of values act on that. I hope you're right now but in all seriousness. I mean he's thirty three now and again when you know if you look at all of his fantasy production last season and apply it to the whole season. It looks pretty good but there were there was like one or two games. There were mike. I believe godwin missed. One and evans were hurt. Early on and brown did like a ton of his production. Those weeks right but again. If you look at the games ryota healthy evans. Or you had a healthy godwin. He was getting thirty and fantasy points per game a sixteen percent. Target's share a little over eleven fantasy point game so that makes me a little nervous that he's more of a borderline flex option not a major value and again does he fall off a little bit. He's thirty three years old. I mean they were manufacturing touches for him. He twenty four percent of his targets were screens last year. That is a huge number. One of the highest wide receiver. They were just trying to get the ball in his hands. And now you're gonna have all these other faces involved in the offense as well plus those two star receiver so he was a fine picket. Adp i don't know that he was a major value every every once in a while to be wrong because we want to humble it exact same exactly and potentially a major fat. He's tom brady's best friend. They were roommates for a little bit man. Like this is like a this is. This is a narrative right. Okay michael gallup contract year antonio brown best friends with tom brady gallup. Next year the explosion comes. Yeah yeah okay. Cowboys have to make some decisions next year. Tight cap situation. Mark cooper is gonna be on the books for a lot of money..

"Dallas Cowboys on one side Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the other side, and everybody's wondering No Zack Martin Dak Prescott not played a snap in the preseason. What is this going to mean for game one that comes to the Cowboys? Let's bring in a bill was Brother to show he is Clarence Field as a great job coming. The Cowboys for the Fort Worth Star Telegram. Hit him on Twitter at Clarence Hill, Jr. He is here. Thanks to the Goodyear Hotline class. I'm going to start right there. Jack Prescott. Not playing a snap in the preseason. No, Zack Mark because of Covid 19 protocols. What does this really mean for Dallas and Week one versus Tampa Bay? You know, I don't really know if the Cowboys would have won with Zack Martin was certainly not having Zach Barton Zeke Elliott said it best. He's the best offensive player. He's the best person and what he does on the team better than C. Better than debt better than Mark Cooper and see Lamb. No, he's their best offensive player. And to not have them for you that that temple maybe with the last we saw them had pepper homes running backwards. You know, it's gonna be a tough row to hoe and I certainly would. The the The goal is to not get that hurt. You know, Right now he's certainly going to not get in where you're gonna have economy governed, replacing exact Martin government governor a solid Certainly He started eight games last year. He's no Zack Martin. And I don't know if he's a met for dumb Akane. The suit the only hope for the Cowboys. The exam double comes also coming off Kobe. He just price today for the first time, so he may not be in prime conditioning. The play a full game. It has limited snaps on Thursdays. That's that's a whole, but you know, outside of that, you know, not having your best player. The best player of front to protect that, Prescott. That's not how you want to go in the first game. How concern is the coaching staff that deck didn't get any action during the preseason. You know they're not concerned because you know, uh, the office or weapons are used to playing with each other. You know, they're they're They're familiar. You know, they have a lot of temperature Bill, and certainly they got a lot of weapons through a lot with the receiver doing offseason. Sort of. They wanted to get him. Some priest is actually not going to say that. Ideally, they wanted to give next that cannot played feel any live bullets and getting injured last October against Giants, So the goal was to give the preseason action but they didn't get to do that. Because The shoulder was more important to get the shoulder healthy, but based on what they're doing in practice, and certainly there have had a lot of times they have a competitive drills or competitive days and practice this week. You know, some lab I had to work out and tried to get them up to speed reduce of competitive things. Uh, they're comfortable. They are clearly they're not going to be the optimal best because they haven't played together. But, uh they were never going to be at their best in week one. The goal is to to commute to build and being explosive markets, Kelly Moore said. If the four count the Cowboys go through the number one office In the league. They think they have the weapons to do that. And it starts with that. Plus that he is Clarence Hill Jr from the doubts for Star Telegram. That's a great job coming to Dallas Cowboys for the Fort Worth Star Telegram hit him on Twitter at clarity with junior and Freddie coming and gave Nigel and Freddie Fitzsimmons on ESPN radio. How is Deck looked to you in practice since the last string happened? Well, you know, that's the thing about that looks great. I mean, you know this report that he wasn't gonna be helped. If one the the ankle that could look great from the ankle system the spring, you know, going back to mini camp, he, you know, just watching him run, and he told us the minute therapy at birth, and he doesn't think about Thank you. You watch it roll and watch it work at it Looks great from ankle, uh, from Says, coming back from Miss OTA's brain. He has not had any problem. No limitation and its role is throwing those soreness in his going. He looked great. In fact, you look great to us now. Certainly you know it's 16 game season. Certainly, obviously the adrenaline will be pumping on Thursday night. You know, he needs to warm up and do whatever I can to protect it on. But There are no limitations on what deck is going to be able to do and how they're going to run this offense. They say. Deck is fine. That has looked fine. There's no reason question questioning right now and again that ankle That ankle is not a problem. He may have ankle, other leg injuries. It won't be worried about that, because there was still playing at being a tank was stronger than it was before. Every year in the NFL. It seems like we get a storyline during training camp that such and such a player dropped so much weight, and this year that player is Zeke Elliott, who said he's dropped weight is the latest he's been since he was a freshman at Ohio State's Is that going to be a good thing for him? Because he seems like he's a more bruising type back for him to drop that kind of weight. Well, you know, Zeke was also a speedy back. You remember everyone against, uh, Alabama in house thing, right, you know, so, Yeah, it just went right through the heart of Alabama. Okay, they they can get up, Put it, pick them up and put him down. He was a track guy in high school, and he's in one thing that's been missing from his game the last three years of the big play. You know his first couple of years, the big play with big part of his game. You saw a lot of big runs of the getting the physical back, but he's also a back that Rips off some big plays that was missing. That's what he's trying to get back. That's why he lost the way he's in the best shape of his career gliders. He's been since you know he was in college, Ohio State. He think that's going to make a difference. The Cowboys hope that's going to make a difference. Watching him in practice. He looks quicker. He looks sleeker. He looks like he's going to start getting some most big stockyards back in the game. He's still a big guy is not a light back anyway. How many still will be to 18 to 20? Match over the Dallas Fort Worth Star Telegram with Freddie coming and.

"Right behind them is to rookies. Sean right. But they're cj goodwin but on enough he's gonna what he's doing. I don't know they get the. This is a weird team. They got going on here. Well in any case they might just floors. I mean they might take off but the chances that they're going to do it week. One which is very us very slim very slim Their offense i think will be a threat for sure. I mean erase of dak prescott. I think it's going to be a little rusty. I think it's going to be a little ugly. But these guys with their wide receivers that we talked about Gallup amari cooper and Who am i missing. delaware gallup. No but cd lamb cd lamb cd liam amari cooper michael gallup deller. We must galloway galloway. That's a calloway. The guy from new orleans. We were just watching last night. They so they are a threat and I think we'll certainly put up some big plays. I think we can expect that. We're going to give up some big plays. They're mark cooper this. He's out state. He's the best route runner in the league. I think he can do anybody out He can run any route. You know it's good. It's going to be interesting to see who goes up against helm for you. Know a Maldin djamoldine carl davis. Whatever they're going gonna have a hard time with him he's going to get open and that's his thing. He does catch the ball good and traffic. He's not a A big tough guy. He's not gonna catch them on. Run you over. But he will get often. That's the how he likes to catch the ball when he's over but we gotta gotta stay tight on him at you. They'll they'll probably make some plays and maybe even into the run game a little bit but i'm not hopeful on. We're gonna crush them. We're gonna ralph. And i were talking about this last night. Avas talking about the offensive line. How kind of in the middle you know they might be certain. Some backups or dealing with people coming off of like the one guy was on the cova glass. I don't know how sick he was. Or whatever but you know if you're coming off of illness like it does take you a while to recover and get back to where you were. And he's only back you know for a week. I don't know what kind of shape. He's i'm sure where mine mine is where i'm like. Yeah you know you can. It can take some time to recover from any kind of sickness. And so and then you've got the right tackle who he was on. I r last season and he's almost next singers and so there are offense of line. I think could be kind of a liability for them..

"Your team is completely balanced. Two running backs too wide receivers. Where are you leaning. Well i am sat. I am really. I'm gonna spot. I'm not why you're here. I love my team so far which which of those players was the thing that made you said feeling. Actually he went much much earlier So it wasn't like he almost got to me. But i have seen plenty of time to get to this spot and be drafted in a different order. It was cuyler. Keiler is my auto fifth round. Pick okay if he's their fifth. I'm taking him I did that the last mock but he went in the four the four o nine which is honestly a better spot for him. Now i'm here and i can go any direction I'm between deciding on whether or not. I'm willing to pull the trigger on. Hotson here because tj hawks at this is his adp we're right now What draft pick is this. I think this is the five. Oh eight Right but what What is this the fifty five. I think this might be the fifty five. Who cares myers. If the math doesn't check out it was on jason more well at the very least that is his. Adp him being tj hopkinson. I'm gonna. I'm gonna gamble and i think i'm gonna lose. You already. have your tight end. But there's three other teams in team. Eleven does not have tighter or does have their tight. I'm sorry chelsea. So there are two teams so essentially four picks between you and your next one. That could take tj hodkinson away from you. Yeah i still have a lot of belief i know he was very very inconsistent. But when you have a hundred receptions a lot of yards you play for a great quarterback you have a great rapport. You just got paid a bag. I'm still all about tyler. Lockett the season okay. I'm not going to worry too much about his poor stretch of games that Where he didn't score because consistency is an inconsistent metric. So i will take tyler lockett to go with. Julio and allen robinson here and see if hopkinson makes it back breaking news he did not you gambled and you lost you. Get nothing well. I got tired of lock. It's pretty honestly. I assumed i would lose hopkinson there. I'm still even though. I'm bullish on hawks and i think he's going to be the next guy to kind of level up and be a consistent producer. I don't think he's gonna be a kelsey even i'm andrews of two years ago. But i think he's going to be a consistent producer at the position just not willing to spend a fifth on okay after you took title. Lock at cooper cup and then team. Ten breaks your heart with tj hodkinson dak prescott off the board That puts me back on the clock for my turn. Picks i'm sitting with aaron jones to fund digs amari cooper and mark andrews. So i only have the one running back the running backs on the board to be chase. Edmunds melvin gordon. James robinson where he most hurt. I mean nothing. I don't mind chase edmunds right here. I supposed to take the shot but over at the wide receiver position. Deontay johnson. Jomar chase odell beckham portland sutton chase klay pool. This is. this is a tough one here for me. I believe i am locked into. At least one of the steelers wide receivers. I have digs. I have a mark cooper. That has some really high target volume for those two guys. Do i just wanna keep adding on the volume or go at the upside. Pick of chase klay pool. That may perhaps he breaks out. For the sake of brevity. I'm just gonna go with deontay. johnson. I'm gonna lock that in. So i have my three wide receivers here and running backs. Guess edit is getting very scarce. You'd i mean there. Was jason a little bit of hype of gonna throw this on zach moss. My my my take over the running back position for the bills to what. What do you think about that well. Looking at who's available. Melvin gordon might as well james robinson might take over for for his team. Mike davis might take i mean. It's just like davis is the starter and mike davis is my pick. Okay that makes sense The running backs are really thinning. Out here melvin. Gordon went he most went after. Your mike davis pick so. I'm now on the clock and when i'm looking at the running backs i again. I'm not a believer in chase edmunds as a guy. I want to rely on for running back Then it's james robinson davonte williams guys that you know you're really really not sure of the role and when you look at my roster. I've got two running max z. Cam and i've already got three wide receivers so a lot of times. I think fantasy football managers when they're playing the game. They're saying. I gotta go running back here. If they don't like the quarterback tight end they. They're like well. I've already got three wide receivers chur. I've only got two running backs. So i'm in the running extra thinning out so i gotta take one but if i did that i would be taking james robinson type of player over a wide receiver. That i think is much better. Someone like People love demar chase and odell beckham there on the board there upside versus one of those running backs i think is is significantly higher. Are you going down the adp. What's that are you going to dig down. I might dig down I you know i personally. I'm looking at who is left here and there you go robbie so robbie's the guy one robbie. I read you like a book. You read me like a book. Because robbie anderson is much much lower. And it's tempting to play the game right of going. Well you know. That's a long wait. It's a long way. And i don't think i'd get them. I already played in in law and gambled and lost once. So i'm between basically robbie anderson above his adp. But i believe he absolutely belongs here or dallas. Goddard at tight in those are my decision. Okay 'cause after dallas got her then to me it drops down to like tyler higby level guy that will get later but i am a if go back and listen to yesterday's show. I talk a little bit about robbie anderson. I believe that he is a really talented wide receiver on a team. That is offensively up and coming and he had so much volume last one hundred thirty six targets and he's talented. So i am going to add robbie anderson here. I'm adding him six targets. Ninety five receptions almost eleven hundred yards only three touch just didn't get the touchdown that's that's the hopeful change from teddy bridgewater is someone that could get it done in the red zone all right. You took robbie than we saw devante williams the rookie running back out of denver. Jomar chase in other. Rookie t higgins so jomar in t higgins back tobacco that make you feel. Jason makes me feel fine I think that you're calling your shot choosing tamar chase. Because the upside is higher. I still believe t higgins will have a better season this year but has a less likelihood of the massive breakout that you hope for in fantasy. But i do think genuinely t higgins has a better fantasy football season than chase. And it'd be willing to bet that. I'll consider chase edmunds dallas. Goddard's not russ smart wilson. Justin herbert beckham junior. James robinson chase klay pool noah fant so we had a two tight ends. Go off the board. Ronald jones will fuller and juju smith schuster..

"Just in this round yeah. I think i've got more most of these guys. This is exactly where i have them. I think i have more golladay. Diontae johnson and brandin cooks all as fifth round. Pick them this order. Like jamie said. I've got cooks and johnson at the top of that list But i do have more. Just behind. Robby anderson and i actually in full. Pbr have lamb behind him as well as have a hard time with everybody healthy in dallas projecting enough targets to get ceedee lamb up to a good level. Npr so lamb would probably be the one that went ahead of them. That i i wouldn't okay and by the way when you have cooks number one. You're assuming shawn watson as his quarterback whenever what. He's acting shawn watson as his quarterback. Yes jamie when you took diontae johnson. First of all juju smith schuster going around ahead of diontae johnson. Juju smith schuster forty fifth overall too early but i do more in this group than he has. The group had when you took diontae. Johnson this off top of your head. That was your fifth round. Pick what did you have on your team at that point. I started with three running backs. I started with ekeler acres and antonio gibson and then my first receiver was mark cooper. So i was looking wide receiver here. I was looking at dante. Johnson was looking. You thought he would still be there. ben trigger had a good picture of him I like john better. But you net range Cooks was in consideration as well I was Giving some consideration to the quarterbacks at that point also but i was hoping for one of those receivers. But i have diontae johnson as As starring pr and so to get those three backs. Cooper diontae johnson. My first five picks was thrilled. How that worked out. Yeah and then you got dallas. Got her with your six pick. I think we'll break down our teams a little bit more later. But if you're just wondering what would my team look like. If i started with three running backs you only have to start to but one can obvious. Obviously be a flex. Well amari cooper diontae. Johnson is your number one in two wide. Receivers is pretty good. And the rounds. Four and five wide receivers is just the way it worked out here anyway. It was just loaded and quarterback and wanna go quarterback in that range you can have your pick of just about anyone not not gonna be. The senate is loaded. Wide receiver is loaded. Know so it if you don't want to necessarily load up at receiver early it's not bad. It's not it's not a bad strategy to get three top twelve top fifteen receivers but you know you're able to sort of go off that position a little bit more as we see. Now you're over here and still get away come back to it and get down. But can i tell you who i think. Maybe the best value right now is what you guys. Think about it. tyler boyd. Seventy fifth overall. I don't understand it. He was on pace for for a hundred and seven catches. One thousand one hundred eleven yards and five touchdowns with a healthy job before the washington game so not just for full disclosure So i was drafting for that team..

It's going to impact your football team and we can't snow sit here and say, Well, he's really good. But the expectation status, saying the expectations have to be elevated. Not only individually Hey, what are left tackles out. We still have to win the game on the road against the New York Jets because they stink or when we don't have a Mark Cooper. That they can afford to do that Football's different. Yeah, it's very different. And the one player who we're talking about now Odo Beckham Jr. Who actually has banked a good amount of money. I'm looking at it now 62 almost $63 million of his career. Could do this. And while this why this is interesting is because the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have some interesting contract decisions to make shack Barrett, who said earlier this week or of yesterday. It's time for me to break the bank and break the Bellport and he should go for it. He's a free agent and well and if they want to repeat, they obviously Have to find a way to re sign him. But on the offense of side of the ball, it gets really interesting as well. By the way, Levante David is also free agents. They gotta make some decisions. The secondary. I think Barrett's gone by the way. That's my prediction. I don't see how they sign MBT, because think about what they need to do offensively to keep Tom Brady, who has another year on his contract, viable and happy You gotta bring wrong back. He's not under contract. You gotta bring potentially Antonio Brown back. He's not under contract. Chris Godwin, who is gonna command 20, plus probably $22 million a year. Uh, you know, in salary because that's what the top in guys they're getting right now. You think he's that? We think he's worth that. He's viewed as that guy now. I don't know. I don't know if I view him that way. But wide receivers are becoming like quarterbacks, meaning they can command or demand the next highest paid salary. Now, the highest right now is DeAndre Hopkins, making 27 Million dollars a year. On average. That's just the average fuel. Julio Jones is 22 Keelan, Alice 20. Mark Cooper is 20. So what do I think? Chris got one falls. I think he's better than Mark Cooper. So I'd say he's probably he's 20 better. And Keenan Allen? No, no, you're not. But he had an alibi. But he's 20. Plus, Regardless, he's in the 20 plus range, which is which is high. Um, and if you can get Odell Beckham Jr Who has no baggage from a signing bonus, meaning that there's no dead money as ever since the trade, there's no dead money. The trade from the Giants just signed him to a $90 million deal to the Browns. There's no dead money. So if they cut him trade him do whatever the only cap it comes from a salary, which is 7 $15.7 million. And if you sign them, he's 29 years old. You're probably gonna give him extension to give you some relief there Interestingly. It actually makes sense because it gives you flexibility with three years left on his contract to make it maybe make it work for not just one year, but maybe a couple of years so I know it. I know. You know we're talking about guys. You just wanna come join a winner and go play with Tom Brady because he can help you win a championship. But the hotel signing actually kind of makes sense, given all the other options that they have around him. I think you laid that out. Great Teke. Really? I think you had every conceivable angle. I was. That was really good job on that, do you? How would you rate How would you rate Well, I have two questions for the first question. How would you rate based based upon his early impact at the apex, the one handed grab against Dallas if that's the apex of the energy, for which it certainly is. The what? We thought he would be at this point versus you know what he's done in totality, grating his career. What What? What would you say? Beckham's been, um, by giving him a like an ABC type grade that you could do it. Keep it simple. I would. I would probably say B minus Right now, Maybe maybe maybe I give my baby. Um but not much more than that, because the early part was exceptional. Yeah, I mean, bt he was first ballot Hall of Famer. You know, maybe challenging some of the all time greats and maybe not yards. He's smaller. Don't know if he's gonna play that long, You know to rack up, you know those thousands of yards. Tens of thousands of yards, but his impact was so amazing. It was early years, right. He was like he was pushing. You couldn't guard him. And if you just chunked it to him on a five yard round, he could go 70. He was, Yeah. He had the health issues early, but then he was great. But the last few years, BT has been injury after injury and and worse it's been I feel like offensive coordinators know how great he can be. And they've been forcing him the foot the football. We saw this at the end of his tenure with the Giants when the throes from Eli I mean the the advanced statistics on his targets, Toad. L were not great. In fact, they were running one of the worst on the team. This is the best player on the team right in the same thing Kind of followed him to Cleveland, so I think he can return to form but he's never gonna be that elite superstar. Unbelievable player. You just can't take your eyes off anymore. I agree with that on. I would agree with about the B minus. Maybe a B because the high end stuff we have so so high, So, whose record breaking for the first few years of his career? Yeah, and it's not like he had two with three other season where he played 15 or 16 games, and he had 700 yards. No, the down seasons were a byproduct of being hurt you for the most part, I know. He's a little pedestrian with the Browns. You know, last year didn't have great synergy here, but he was also hurt, but he was also hurt. And well, this year was obviously but last year he played he played all 16 games. But he had a groin injury member this before he was wearing the watch. He played a lot, buddy, play through a lot, so I don't know how much people actually value this. You probably should. I think it ZPA rightly on the receiver. It's partly on the concepts of parts. Partly on what's around you is definitely on the quarterback. But catch percentage just came up on the show. Yesterday. We were debating this right You know the last two years his catch percentage 55.6%. Wow. And this year granted only seven games, 53.5% you say? Well, what was it with the Giants take even the year. His third year when he was fully healthy. He had 10 touchdowns and 1367 yards with over 100 catches 59.8 catch percentage. Yeah, well, I think Oh, but I think a lot of that is what.

But this will be on in the Tierney household is most golf events are Jordan Speed the 65 yesterday and right now he's home and he's minus 12 overall today, his through 17 so he is Deep in the red again, and he's a shot up on Berger nor lenders. Couple of shots. They're saying What Lewis Cantley, so pretty good leader board pull Casey's there. Jason Day's within shouting distance. Ego. All right, Jimmy Furik. Wow, Jeff York's hanging around love Furik. He's got a wacky swing like only his ball go straight. He actually compresses it. Take interior here. CBS Sports Radio Celt. You know the the idea that you know everybody wants to start jumping on the Bucks bandwagon here. It sounds good makes for some click worthy items. I'm not saying that the Beckham thing can't come to fruition. That's what I'm immediately referencing. But even the other day, Adrian Peterson said it You're gonna start here in this a lot. It's a fun environment. It's a winning environment. "Oh, it is video Get always today. The anniversary of this being the first video played on MTV. Ah, See, there you go. Would be the relevance of the song. No, That's just the only reason why this song is relevant at all. Okay. I don't like today's University. By the way, I just said that about Chris Godwin. Bruce Arians is they were celebrating. I just saw this tweet 40 minutes ago, said your blank ain't going nowhere either to Chris Godwin. So no, it's nice to say that it's another thing when agents and And cat. People get together and say Watership. Yeah, I don't like we want. We want you for eight. He's like I could get 14 somewhere else. So it's hold on. I think this is the time Brady of not this is truly Time Brady effect. Look, man stick here, Play here in Tampa Bay. Take a little less money. Don't pay state taxes, Stay here and let's go win two more Super Bowls. Listen, man, this is this is to me. This is the ultimate sales pitch that's going on in NFL. I've seen it work. I mean, we did it with the Denver Broncos. We did with my teams. We did it with Ah, Peyton's teams man when you have that guy, and he's been given the juice like Tom Brady has been given the juice there in Tampa Bay. To call the right place to get into the right place to work with the coaching staff man. That's the right situation, bro. I mean, that is one. That's the one situation. That Patrick Mahomes will get to later down the line that he doesn't have right now about every person that kind of touchdown pass to the Super Bowl. Wasn't on the team until Tom Brady got there, right, and Tom Brady was the advocate form. Mike Evans was my Kevin's gonna make $12.2 million next year. Chris Godwin's made $3 million in four years, so I don't know what that number is. I'm not saying you're wrong. But this isn't the MBA. And I think about Draymond Green when he signed his big deal, and it wasn't a Max deal, and when he was asked, why didn't you ask for more money? You said Look. I am making whatever Still $100 million he goes, That's not going to change anything in my life. I'm still gonna live in a very nice house in the same block and do the same things I was doing, but that gives us extra money to go out and get more guys and then, by the way, they signed Kevin Durant shortly thereafter and that will help us one more championships That will change my life. But very much perspective is a little different because NBA money is different than NFL money When Chris Godwin Only three at $3.8 million he's made in four years. It's gonna be tough for him The have his agent look across the table. Jason lighter virtually and said, Hey, we want it back, but we couldn't do three years. 24 1, another team of fame. Five years. 90 or whatever. After Mark Cooper got 100 million in over five years last year from the Cowboys. I know the economics gonna be different, but Chris Godwin's one of the top two or three players on the market right now as a true free agent. Okay. Obviously AJ Bouvier got released today and you did talk to us about that in in early December that you thought that that was the plan so that that's the first move that George Payton has done as the new general manager of the Broncos. How fast and furious now do these moves continue to go forward. Well, I think the next move that makes the most sense is the other one that I told you guys about it, and that's General Casey. The differences there is that drill. Casey is still injured and going through rehab, so if they were toe Release, and now they have to come with an injury settlement and pay him some portion of the almost $12 million that he's getting, and that's about how much we're gonna clear with boy 12 million. It'll come off the cap that taken cough the payroll that they can use other places where guys like Justine Simons and von Miller, perhaps her or shall be Harris. So I think Casey is next and then I'm guessing the conversations after that. Are likely with either well John James Stevie's Gonna Stay room. He's going to stay opting out and maybe retire. We're gonna assume he's not because I was saving a bunch of money, but it's perhaps some sort of restructuring with Kareem Jackson. It's a team option for $12.8 million. So for a guy that's now well into his thirties. He's what 31 32. I'm double checking right now. He's 32. He'll be 33 by the time the year Stars is birthday's next month. What does AH Multiyear deal look like if if one and all for cream, but I think it's Casey. First, I think, Scream and then a name that I brought up when we had that conversation about boy Rice. Callahan's got one year left at 8.5 million. And while we know how good he's been when he's on the field, the biggest issue is that he hasn't been on the field a lot. So do you just continue to go young or do you pay in that final year? Here? You don't the restructure, but I think those were the three names. That you're talking about that you might let go or might rework. And then von Miller's a separate conversation and Justine Simons new contract is also a different conversation. But those air in order and so there's a long answer your question. I think I think Casey's up next very likely, but he has to be healthy first for them to then release it. Wow. You make it sound like it's justice Simmons deal is is gonna happen and that this is just a matter of time. It feels inevitable because in George Payton can say whatever he wants, but in multiple interviews and getting the sense talking to people in that building. Vic really wants that. We know how how much his defense relies on good secondary play. Good safety play, especially And you're thinking said. We're not in the habit of getting rid of our our own young players are good young players, and that's who Justin is. And then Justin had a sit down interview with Channel four last week, where he told Michael Spencer that he went over and was at the facility and met George and didn't talk about football once just kind of got to know him, and and I think, sometimes the little things like that. Can help. Uh, what could be a contentious negotiation on? That would be that contentious because the guy that's negotiating for the Broncos was Justine Simmons agent firm for the last four years until the Broncos hired him last year, So I think that it will get done to question of what is that number look like because of these economics and maybe the bonuses higher, But the per year is less or whatever accounts this year is, you know, spread out. I just think it feels like A Z Muchas any move that they're going to make this offseason re signing Justine Simmons feels the one that if I were going to place a bet on draftkings or bet rivers or any other happy wanted to use, I would bet Justine Simons is back and he's the highest paid stake in football. That to me. That just makes no sense. I'm just gonna be Honest with you. You're gonna play..

"Ground gravel force to go in and get the dirty worked up, And that's the way I look at the running game as the ground force. Um, you're right, passing the ball throwing the ball in. Theirs is exciting. It's sexy to see you could produce a lot of points that way. But then today It comes down to getting a tough yards can't get those tough yards. We'll have your teammate built that way. It won't happen. And you become one dimensional. So we see that Emmitt Smith is joining us here. The J. R Sport brief show on CBS Sports radio. You talk about balance. It's a common question. I know you're asked all over the place. I want to share the answer with my audience. Where's the balance with the Cowboys? What is going on? I mean, even Jimmy Johnson is getting in on acting. Sandwell should've signed back a long time ago. Where do you think the balance is? What's wrong? I think the Cowboys are not truly totally committed to that. Prescott as much as they want that Prescott to be committed to them. I think it all begins with a level of commitment. From both sides. You have one player that wants to be a capital for the rest of his life. They have an organization trying to figure out whether or not they want to make that decision with him and whether that he's that guy. I don't see why he could not be there. God, because before you got her last year he was doing he was doing a tremendous job. Yes, we may have had a few turnovers hand there, but We will produce importance. That wasn't our problem. Our problem was stopping people. And because of some of the decisions that were made by defense was not as good as they were the previous year. Because we had to make a defense adjustments. We had to make a change. We made a change defensively in philosophy, and we have players that probably was not built for this defensive style. And that's a decision of the team, mate. They ain't got nothing to do with that. Prescott. They has nothing to do with his performance. So for that, Prescott My question is Are the Cowboys committed to him as much as they want all of their players to be committed to them. We see that someone where who did have is his commitment? Question He did play this past season. I think a lot of people forgot that he had Cove it pride to the year that Zeke you, Elliot, What do you think His standing is with the team Right now. He's not in folks good graces based on his recent performance, Emmett Well, Z came in and had challenges and people just for that. When he got paid. People started the judge why he got paid and how much you got paid, And that's the one thing that people want to revert to is how much somebody maids But his commitment to try and be the very best running back to me has not wavered. Um, did he have some challenges last year? In terms of funding football? Yes, but people oftentimes forget like you just stated. The kid came in with covert 19. He had he had to deal with that and overcome that, that in itself, No one knows how much of an impact that had on his body. And if you're gonna look at tape closely The 1st 67 games. His body structure looked completely different. He looked fuller. Look heavier. If you look at the last eight games, and so he looked a lot leaner as if he just got into the shape that he needed to be in the beginning a year, so no one really knows the impact. Cove in 19, this young man's body now turning the ball over from the ball the way he did. That's something that could be corrected. And I believe he tried to put more on his shoulders Then he really should have. You should allow the game to come to him. Instead, he was pressing. And players have the tendency to press more when you're starting quarterback is out, and you know that your team is turning to you. Well, if it works out great. You look like a hero. If it doesn't you like this scapegoat and that's what people are looking at Z gas and escape. Well, I think he has what it takes, and it will bounce back and have a productive year. And I think it's talking about the office of Limes banged up and beat up and so they they're not talking about those things. Miss Smith is joining us so between Dak and then also, Zeke, you expect them to have a better year next year. That commitment you think will be an equal exchange. Well, see, we gotta get back back first and foremost, And then Mark Cooper gotta be healthy to Cooper has some issues and struggles this year knee wise or leg wise. I'm not sure exactly what he dealt with, but the Cowboys know exactly what he double. And the training staff knows exactly what he dealt with now publicly. We may not know totally what he is dead. We don't even know if he had any type of all season certainly don't know what type of knee issue he may have had a leg issue he may have had, but we do know that he struggled a little bit. With the Lord Extremity injury. What happens this offseason how he rehabs and bounced back along with that rehabilitation and bouncing back. Z having a complete year now to try and get back to total help and office on line.
Should the Raiders focus on a defensive rebuild?
"The raiders have three first round picks. I mean to me, I know gruden's offensive guy, but don't they have to use most of those two out of the three at least on defense. Well, their offense of weapons are anemic. But their defense is terrible. But they do have a franchise quarterback. At least that's what they've been saying. If you're going to stick with their car in you're already paying them. I definitely think you have to use the fourth pick on a defensive player, and this is may said the other day and all his years of doing this. This is one of the deeper defensive drafts. And we all know if you watch college football players everywhere. But there are the twenties is going to be a sweet spot for offense players. Some of these tight ends a lot of these wide receivers. The raiders Mark Cooper. Steven Jones says wouldn't are for round pick comes up. We'll just watch Maury highlights. So they traded Amari Cooper who they drafted fourth overall several years later for pick twenty seven they need a wide receiver. They need a tight end. Derek has no weapons and at the end of the day. The thing I always hear is earn Gruden loves offense. You know? I mean, he talks a big game about the coaching staff and offense is his baby. In last year. It was an embarrassment that their defense is always bad for the raiders. But offensively went when they were humming, especially groom they were putting up points. And I think they reset the franchise last year. You gotta use those two picks to me in the twenty. If the guys are there on the ole miss wide receiver one of the Iowa tight ends. You have to get some weapons
