"We're talking about some of the best young combinations in the NFL. I'm talking about incoming players. We got guys who just got drafted who will be playing with some former or old college teammates? Who would talk of a low is gonna be back with Jalen model Trevor Lawrence is gonna be reconnecting with his old Clemson Buddy Travis at CNN. Jalen hurts, is back with the Vontae Smith. Unfortunately for the two of them, it's what the Eagles And then you got Joe Borough. This is the combination that I like this is the combo. I think we will see for a long time. It's Joe Burrow into Mark Chase. Phone lines open 855 to 1 to four CBS That's 855 to 1 to four, CBS. What combination? What group that was just reunited. Do you think is gonna be the best You can also tweet me at J. R Sport brief. We tweeted out the question. Go ahead and start off in Madison, Wisconsin, and let's talk to John John. You want to CBS Sports radio? What combo do you think is going to be the best? A J R. Thanks for having me on. I think it's without a doubt two and Waddle. Okay. If you look at the Dolphins, they're the most complete team out of all the ones he lifted. I mean, they were, they were went away from the playoffs. And even I don't know if tool was right last year, but he's got a whole offseason to prepare. Take a step forward. And more than that, though, if you look at the other team Mean burrows going to get killed. Behind that line. The Eagles are the Eagles. Warrants. I think it's gonna have a better time with James Robinson, and I think it's clear that's gonna be too. Uh, I don't know if it's gonna be as electric as Russell Wilson to Tanner McEvoy, but It'll be good. We just We're gonna We're just throwing away Burrow and chase. I mean, because of the offensive line, which just getting rid of him already. I mean, I love Joe Burrow. I loved Mark Chase. I think they did a great job. But l s u, But if Burrow doesn't have any knees, you're gonna have another Carson Palmer situation. I don't think that's I don't Everybody knows that they need to protect the man. I mean, what better evidence do you need than watching him? You know, tear is a CL. But if I'm thinking about five years from now, 10 years from now there is full confidence in Joe Barrow. This full confidence in Jamaar Chase. I don't think that to a Tonga below if I was a betting man I want to say that he has that that same confidence in the organization, so I think that's where that's where things get tricky. I mean, I just think you gotta look at the team that the organization built around him. The coaching? Yeah. Everything is going to his way right now. And I think it's my fish again. Okay. All right. Well, thank you, John. I wouldn't Wouldn't say everything is going to his way to have the answer questions at the end of the season. Whether or not he was even gonna have a job. What's going his way. That he got connected with Jalen Waddle. Oh, yeah, That's nice. That's great. Solid reason for that. I think there's still some questions that will be answered at the end of the season. We'll see. Who was playing? Yeah, he's the Dolphins went 10 and six Jalen waddling to out think they're in the best situation to do some winning right now. But long term, so I think that combination has the highest ceiling. No. I don't Sam is calling from Atlanta. Samuel on CBS Sports Radio. What do you think? Hey, Mr J. R. How're you doing? I'm good. Go ahead. Um, yes, I agree with you on the highest ceiling for, um, The group's the quarterback while you groups. Uh, I'll go with Jones, Amar Chase and Joe Burrow once show Barrow come back. I think they're gonna be a threat. Uh, Mark Chase. He's elected, legit number one are ready. And, um, yeah, I see that. I see him going over 12 1200. This next year. Coming up Waddle Waddle. Hey, has to compete tour. He's kind of questionable. Confused. Quite. He like a question Mark over. Is it right now? Um By face, Mills. I see you have a great season, but they'll hurt She got get if he gets together. Um yeah. See, maybe successful, Uh, Etienne has a compete with Dave Robinson and James Robinson was a horse and a lot of people forget about him. Everybody's talking about trans et en. But, yeah, I see the mark Chase and sober for a long time Carson poem and can also seek. Oh, okay, my car. No doubt. Thank you, Sam for calling up from Atlanta, okay? That's a that's A that's a quick comparison. The Bangles have Ah, Pomodoro Shal sink. Oh, I don't know if we're going to get the same dance moves. Or celebrations. Be nice to see 855 to 1 to four. CBS. We got Alex. He's calling from South Carolina. Alex, What do you say? Well, I have to agree with you on the ceiling being really high for Joe Burrow and Jamaar Chase, especially that rebuild on the office line to bring the Jackson Carmen from Clemson. I think he's gonna help them out a lot. But I've got to say that long term. I think that it's hard to go against Trevor Laurence and Travis ESPN after seeing those guys play together for three years..

"One of the greatest songs ever a banger. Remember when back in September, Packers fans were happy about Aaron Rodgers situation of Yes, that was back in the other days. Welcome back to best week ever. Peter Burns, Katie George. Shows presented by progressive insurance and all guests appear, of course via the Goodyear Hotline, where Tomasky had just joined us talking about kind of the drama that's going on with Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers and again. They've met their They made their own bed. Katie, I You know, we talk about how bad we feel for everybody. I just I just don't understand how anyone in any work environment, right? If there is someone who is important to your organization How they're not part of the organisation's future as horizontal communication level like that this on so many different levels, even the Bengals air going to Joe Burrow and going like, Hey, Jamaar Chase. Okay, well, let's hears. We probably should go offensive tackle here. Right to protect, you know you want to Mark Chase, Okay. They do it with two us, right? Why would you not do that? It just baffles. So let me get this straight. Someone who's important in a work organization or to the success of what you're trying to do. Communication is important, right? Is that what you're saying? I just poured my heart out to you in the break and you literally got up and walked away from the zoom to do God knows what and left me hanging. I went, We have to get across now and you gotta crackers that was more important. Well, you started talking about your music for your wedding. And I'm thinking as long as you got a D. J just don't do the whole band situation like a soon as you think you were gonna do. The whole band situation already booked the band. You're You're booking a band. Then I got to think of my men are out on this wedding situation here. I'll be honest with you. Oh, that's that's the reason you wouldn't come. Who does a band instead of a DJ? I just like a band Could lot of people that's a bad choice. Bad choice. Put it up. I was going to say we should actually have a pull on that. But We should have a pole and I thought I missed you. "So I say sleep in. If you're if you're up now, you're actually not sleeping in any way while he was sleeping for those of you who are early birds on this Saturday morning, we discussed, of course, the NFL draft There were so many different layers to it. Um, the first being you know those mock drafts what you could do with those right? I mean, really once Trey Lance was selected. By the Niners on Thursday night. You knew that those mock drafts were just full of garbage. I mean, come on. Most of them had Mack Jones, if not all of them, Um Then it changed the entire look off the first round anyway. So you got mock drafts. And then you have you know, Every player that's taken is the best and going to be great and outside of the Raiders, who get picked on a yearly because yearly they reach or at least people think that they reach Outside them. Everybody's got a great draft, and we really don't know anything about these picks and how it's going to pan out for any of them. You talent is pretty much equal at this level. So when you talk about his hope, From a fan's perspective. It's all about hope what their team is done. And you gotta love to write the wide receivers every every wide receiver that was taken in the first round. You know what they are? Match up nightmare. Oh, scalp. It's a match up my merit to Mark Chase. He's a nightmare for defense is charting that job with Jalen Model Nightmare for defense is try to match up with I mean, it's crazy, all that and you know that within these top pigs and within these great players and talented players and potential superstars and future whole families, you know that At least half of them are gonna be busts at the very least according to their expectations, if not just in general and not contributing. At all. So that's why I have Ah, difficult time of the draft building up to it. It's exciting. It's intriguing. And it's necessary. I mean, it is the most important part off building the football team. I mean, that's that's it. Now you don't know until a couple of years out how the results of whatever draft it is that you're drafting are and we know it's important, though, and you know it to win consistently. In the NFL. You have to be able to build well. In the draft. You have to hit not just the first round, not just the 2nd and 3rd, but all round Have to find players. It's the only way To sustain success at the NFL level, So that's why it's such a great event. But I think the biggest selling point is just hope, because realistically the majority of people watching I mean, now I pay a little more attention to college football with it Since I got into the business one was this sort of working at W Hat Band back in 2003. That's when I really started becoming more of a college football fan. I was there working, so the game's wrong and people got into it. And then you start betting a little bit before it was legal. Maybe, um, whatever, That's how I started becoming more into college football. And as the years have gone on, I've come and gone. You know, sometimes I'm more into it than others. You know, life gets in the way too, but My point is that even a die hard sports fan NFL fan. They're not necessarily locked into college, so they're going based on not all of them anyway. The majority would say, Aren't there going based on What everybody else is saying about whatever player that their team is going to be picking. So it really is just I mean, About wanting to see your team, Phil need Ah, lot of times. Fans just want to see the skill positions being taken and look. A lot of times teams are taking skill position players now where the league has gone toward offense. I, however, would go the other way. And lean defense. I love with the Detroit Lions have done in this draft and not just defense but building the trenches. And they do that with Sewell, who fell to them somehow in number seven. As I said, the biggest Part of the draft was Trey Land's going to the Niners, because if Mack Jones went number three or even Justin Fields, two quarterbacks who didn't end up going in the top 10 if either one of those guys went number three overall That changes everything. Atlantans little taking call pitch, which I thought was foolish. The first time that a tight end has been taking in the has been taken in the top five since 1972 or something like that. And the first time that a tight end has been taking has been taken. Fourth overall as high as fourth overall ever. Just don't believe in building it seem like that. But they want a top spot once. Trey. Lance was off the board, which was a pick that they might have made and had him sit and learn under Matt Ryan. Once he's off the board now, even if Atlanta one of the trade down Most teams or not Most teams, the teams who want the quarterbacks are not going to trade up to number four because they feel just infield him. Mack Jones warm worth it and they were right. I mean, the bear's got Justin Fields at number 11. Mack Jones from all the way to the Patriots of 15, so there was no need to trade up and panic and go up to number four to make sure you get your quarterback especially knowing that Cincinnati wasn't taking a quarterback. Turns out they weren't taking a lineman either. Especially always. It's Miami wasn't taking a quarterback Detroit wasn't taking a quarterback Carolina wasn't taking a quarterback and although I know some people were saying That they could have taken. Justin feels well just makes no sense to me whatsoever. I mean, they just traded for Sam Donald. Why would Carolina go take a quarterback Instead, they do the right thing and take what they believed to be the best defensive player. In the draft in JC Horn. Me personally, I would go, Sir Tane. I think he's just an absolute stud and will be so at the next level. Maybe both those corners hit Who knows? But that's how you win in this league. Drafting, you know now, especially when everybody's going offense. You better build a good defense. Yeah. The third pickle roll change Everything in Atlanta Take scalp. It's as opposed to trey lands, then wide receiver Iran with Chase and Waddle. Sewell falls to the Lions. Eagles end up training upto leapfrogged the Giants who likely would have taken Devante Smith That leads the bears to getting involved. And they get Justin Field Cowboys trade back with was they would have you know the cowboy's got screwed out of a corner. The Giants got screwed out of a wide receiver. The Bears benefited..

"Of a franchise quarterback in this league. You've got to protect him. Especially in the draft. That's pretty stacked. I think with receivers not that Jamaar chases and great because he could be really, really good and the potential is there, But I just think you've got to if you're Cincinnati. Protect that young quarterback who's coming off of that injury, and you want to give him time to develop in and feel comfortable. If he's not comfortable he can't get the ball Jamaar Chase, So I think that to me was the most influence, and I don't know Freddie, if that was a good thing, okay? All right, so I apologize. That was that was where I was going with the answer, but I pretty. I want to make sure that you know the nominees that are out there. The nominees. Obviously Joe burrow into Mark Chase. There's also the Trevor Laurence and Travis et and early pick. That's where I was going. Three Could be Jalen hurts with Devante Smith and then Ah, four to a ton of Iowa. With Jalen Bottle? No, no, no, no. No supply. Myers is good in terms of Jamaar Chase and Joe Bro's influence, but travel Lawrence. He doesn't have an influence on that pick. They may not talk to directly, but they had a conversation. Having the 25th pick the jacks with Jack was saying, your boy Travis Tell us about Trevor and I'm sure he was glowing in a few sieve because they travel 18 is gonna be terrific back now. I didn't get the jacks with Jaguars, saying we think he could be a terrific third down back. I'm thinking why would you take my number? 25? I'm not taking a running back and 25. He's just gonna be a one down back. That's just asked me to put that out there. But a guy like that He's not going to be a third down back. He's gonna talk to being every down bag because of his skill level his talent.

"Know to help your family out to help yourself out for the rest of your life. And generally, people and players don't hold that against. No, they're they're teammates. Now I do think that the high end players is not gonna affect him at all. Penny Sewell, who he had going number five to the Bangles. Hey, opted out. I don't think that's gonna affect him to Mark Chase set out a year. I think he's gonna be the top wide receiver that's picked. I do think, though, When it comes down to some of the some of the other players, Negro Collins could be one. I hope he goes is you know? Hi. I say a whole have you know talked about is, you know the back in the second round early third round. I think when you talk when you think about these G M's. This is a real wild card year. They some of the scouts and G M's. They all love to have as much information as they can. This year. They don't have that, especially with the guys that opted out. So you're not going on Leon Some scattered tape from last year. That's not complete. You have to project from the year before, And that is just gonna hurt some of these players that air you're undecided on if you said You had Nico Collins here and you had somebody else. That's equally that your great it out. You could say, Hey, we just saw this guy you know, last year and this is what he did. We haven't seen Nico Collins in two years. So I don't know if it's gonna affect, like, well, we don't know really. If they have the love of the game because they were just, you know, thinking about their pocketbook here, or if you bump somebody else up that says, Hey, you know what? He had some concerns here, But he said, you know the hell with that he was gonna play anyways. I think those will be specific things, but I think some of those mid range guys will fall when it comes down because they just don't have the tape. Uh huh. Hey, I did. I do have a guy for you, Uh, you boy Choice, said something pretty intelligent. Last week, he talked about their certain franchise positions. Quarterback left tackle. Uh, obviously a pass rusher and a cover corner. And you know what? I don't get that spot on, you know, and I'm gonna throw out. Patrick's a pen. I will throw him matter, so I don't know who's next. I don't know what their needs are. But anybody hungry problem isn't any corner. So I want you rang the bell. Yeah, I think everybody can. There isn't a team elite that couldn't use a cover corner. And this kid has a pedigree because it it seems like his dad wasn't playing that long ago. But you know, we're getting older. So who knows? So I don't know who you have next pick. But that's who I'm taking. I'm gonna help you. So it's a couple of Patrick's with Ted from cover corner from South Carolina. I'm good with that. You go with that Go with that. I've got with that. Bring it in Philly General. If you're the one that definitely bring it in, bring him in. We want what we talked about. You know, the girls draft you could have to do with draft boys Select Patrick's entertain cornerback Alabama. Okay, let's hear it. Cool. You gotta You gotta love it right? All right. On. Lastly, you know, the other day we were talking about how we keep talking about the points. We actually breathe. 10 in introducing Beatles Did the draft beer specials in your beer? Special guest? We're gonna We're gonna make it another second rated corners out. There is like getting paid a lot of money down there. We know that. So what difference does it make A wow. You know, I'm gonna do it again because you messed that all up with that with the 10th pick of the 2 2021 draft. The Dallas Cowboys will take Patrick's a. Tan the second From the Alabama. "You get him in the red zone. He's going to be a match a problem for defenders. They're they're not very many defensive backs in the NFL who are equipped to cover someone like that. So if you had to take one non quarterback and say, either a rookie of the year candidate Or as you said, Travis, someone is going to play for 10 years to be highly productive. I think Kyle Pitts is the best bet you mentioned Kyle pits. The Cincinnati Bangles reportedly are considering taking Jamaar Chase over pin a stool as well as Kyle pits at that fits spot. Why would they do that? When I need to protect? My quarterback in job, Earl. It makes you wonder, right? And Cincinnati is one of the old school for an office is still small scouting staff. They're very set in their ways. I think, though, Keyshawn, they could look and say we signed Riley Reef, and I'm not making this excuse for them, but this is probably what they're thinking. We signed Riley Reef privacy. We could move Jonah Williams to right tackle where he did play some in Alabama. And we've now fixed to positions with one move the interior their offensive line. They did like, I know they didn't play well last year, but Trey Hopkins that center they give a new contract. Billy Price was the first round pick several years back. So they do like the interior of their offensive line. I think they're looking at this and saying, Okay, we have solved our offensive line problems as best we can. But you can't find a Jamaar chase in the second round. You confined an offensive tackle in the second round. Players like to Mark Chase probably don't exist there. I would argue there's not a pin a strolling around to. There's no one else like him in this draft. But do you understand that if Joe Burrows and they're saying, guys I want I want to Mark Chase. We've seen situations where Russell Wilson says, Having more help, Aaron Rodgers says, I don't know what we're doing here. I'm not. I'm not in on the decisions. We're seeing other situations like Kansas City were. Patrick Mahomes is very involved. So if Cincinnati's letting Joe burrow be that involved He took Riley Reef to dinner, and they sign him in free agency. He's allegedly advocating for tomorrow Chase, So I think some of that, too. Is you drafted this quarterback number one overall, You want to take some of his insight in opinions and how to best build this scene? Yeah, I mean, you wanted ls your reunion and the fact that he opted out last year? I think it's a lot of people aren't talking about him as much Just because he's not top of mind, Matt. "Smells mock draft. As we keep saying is now out again. It's a tour round locked acts. Four point Oh, on Mel, you started new this year. You allowed trade into your mock draft and you get one. Involved early and probably the trade that most people are asking about. Maybe this is why you're trending on Twitter. Mel is that they don't think our trading up from pick six to pick four. That would be. Of course, that meant a falcon's will be back to six. In this case, walk us through the why, and the result for Miami. Todd calls me a stunt man with on that's accurate because I do pull some stunts but the question one thing I'm onto you, caper. Where there's a stunt. There's method to the madness. There's usually method to the madness, and in this case, I needed to figure out a way for trade lands to come off the board and Atlanta moving down and picks. I didn't want to drop that's four. Five, so I didn't want hits. The drop is I think she's gonna come off the board very quickly. And it worked out perfectly. Where Miami gets Kyle pits for two. Oh, what a great target. He will be in Atlanta moves down, Get some pics and ends up with Trey Lancer era parents of Matt Ryan. So trade you're supposed to be beneficial to both themes. I found all the way to make it that way with this whole scenario there. What's that? What's the Atlanta Falcons in the Miami Dolphins? It actually makes sense. I mean, if you're gonna You're looking at the big picture. You decide. Hey, listen, we We'd love to bring it. Kyle pits at tight end and put him with Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley and wide receiver and let's make a run for the next two years with Matt Ryan as our quarterback. You know, that's part of the decision you have to make. But if you decide Hey, we're not gonna be picked in this high again. We've got five first round quarterbacks. We know pretty much for a fact that Trevor Lawrence is gonna go. One from Clemson. Going to Jacksonville at to the Jets are very likely to take Zach Wilson from BYU. And all the information tells you the Mack Jones from Alabama's We've been third pick the San Francisco San Francisco part of that three way trade if you will. Moving up from 12 to 3. So now you said it before, and you say all right, too weak to take a weapon. Where we going quarterback, And if you're you didn't decide to go quarterback. Then why not make this move with your Falcons moved back to stocks. Did you know the team moving up in Miami and this in this scenario? He's not moving up for a quarterback. They got to its hunger by a lower, you know that Joe Borough was the number one overall pick their Cincinnati speaking in number five. So you're able then to get the same player that you were going to get at six? Very likely that the quarterback position and Trey Lance, so I like that from Atlanta standpoint. I think it's interesting for Miami. I love puppets, and I would make the move up and go get him two spots. What a what would it cost him? And be having already moved from down from what is it 3 to 12 than 26? Are you gonna make another move and give away some of that draft? Collateral that they may be earned throughout the moves that Chris Square the general managers made. Are they going to give up some or to go get pits? Or do you sit home at six and say you know what Worst case style pitch comes off the board at 45. Another receiver comes off the boards more chase. Let's say we can still get the Vontae Smith from Alabama or his teammate, jail, jail and water. It's six. So that's apartments. That's interesting to me, kind. I'm with you. I'm with you. I think it just depends upon help. Miami used wild pitch. They think he's an extraordinary once in a decade player that's so different from everybody else That makes him so much better than everybody else. In terms of what you could be into their offense If I were doing I love the wine tasting it and I know you love to Mark Chase. We love them both and chain Lin Wai No, I don't think you go wrong. I personally wouldn't move up. Would stay where I am. It's just depends upon how they feel about this deal. I was doing this for for Atlanta and then Kyle Pittsburgh went off the board. But Miami can't go wrong here so they don't feel like if you it's too expensive to go from 6 to 4, and we're guaranteed. One of those great receivers. I think they should stay. So I would argue bore from against Miami doing it. I was, It would be a great movements. Atlantic you go down and still get trade rash or Justin Fields. That any other move that Atlanta would make. If you're trading back further. And you get out of the range to that daughter. But right now, it's just Denver at night. If they're moving up, you're not gonna make that deal because they're gonna come to take the quarterback. So if you really want Trey, Lance or Justin feels you're not gonna allow a team to move into that stock to take the quarterback so really, ultimately. Comes down to what this this new organization in terms of general manager and coach, what they want to do. Is it micro or is a macro if it's micro, then you set it for and you you take the typesetting and Kyle pits or even move back A couple spots if you can and still take a weapon. But if it's macro, if you're talking long term than that, I think you have to go the quarterback spot. You're definitely not gonna make a movement team that's quarterback hungry, trying to move up. Is there anything better than fresh mowed grass in the ballpark on opening day?.

But I must start today by feeling a little bit like Mel Kiper Jr draft season, kicked into hyper drive last week when we had two blockbusters, said it feel more real to you on Friday afternoon, the draft is less than a month away now. Yeah, I feel it was incredible because I didn't reaction to the initial train. I was like, Why did Miami moved to 12? There's no way I was ever gonna project you could talk about this morning doing much. I was never gonna project San Francisco A 12 going up the three because I figured Miami can't move back to 12 and lose out on those receivers. So my initial reaction when I heard that was What's Miami doing? There was method to the madness went about 10. Seconds later, you found out there was tied to the ability to go up from 12 to 6 with the Philadelphia Eagles to get back into that opportunity to get it, receiver. So for me a great move by the Miami Dolphins, they lose nothing. By essentially going from 3 to 6. They picked up a 2023 1st round picks and a third rounder and 2022 on day lose nothing. So that's that's a great move from Miami for the 40 Niners. They feel like they've isolated the quarterback that they feel convenes spectacular and division out with Matthew Stafford, Russell Wilson. Tyler Murray. They don't want to be forced into division, so they went out. Got the guy that they feel it could be spectacular. And let's say we don't know who that is. Is that Matt Jones Trey last Justin Fields? We don't know. We can speculate today about that Philadelphia Eagles, They pick up draft choices. Well, moving down from 6 to 12, essentially taking themselves out of the opportunity to get a receiver for Jalen hurts their young quarterbacks. And so what else? You said you were gonna get extra picks. Will lose Chase will lose Smith lose. Waddle is pits, but we're OK with that given time. I was just gonna say I've been giving Miami a lot of credit for their coaching staff and their front office for many weeks on this podcast. It's a different organization that and then it has been in the past, probably 15 20 years. And Chris career gives him a lot of credit for this move. It's not easy to make a three team deal. That's essentially what happened. I mean, Chris career had worked out the whole situation with Philadelphia. And that was the only reason that he would make a deal with San Francisco, knowing that they would move back to 12 but then be able to move up to six to be square in the wide receiver, past catching market. So, you know if Kyle picks the tight end from Florida's gone, they get your mark Chase the wide receiver the wide receiver from Alice, even if they don't get to Mark Chase, they get Jalen Waddle or Devante Smith from Alabama, So they're gonna wind up getting those additional picks that Mel just talked about. And also getting a big time receiver may be one of two attended by a lower his former teammates at Alabama to come in and be that number one guy moving forward. So what's we're gonna zoom in on both of those trades again? I was just sort of, say in the draft feels more real because we have so much action, right? So for those, but then again, you guys live in the draft 365 days a year it was fresh off of the Zach Wilson. Performance of his pro day and it's just a pro day It is what it is. But that throw that he makes 50 60 yards down the field, rolling to his left and then always, you know that that kind of goes away and then all of a sudden we've got two trades that impact the top 15 of the draft. Hugely, I mean, it was a wild that it certainly was. So let's get really deep into each of these trades and will start Mel with you with the first trade that went down, which was part of a two part sequence, which is that The 40 Niners move up from pick 12 this year to pick number three originally owned by Houston betrayed the Miami is part of the Larrabee Tunsil trade. Hughes. Excuse me. San Francisco gives up 12 a first round pick next year and a first round pick in 2023 as well plus a 2022 compensatory third round. Thanks. So three additional picks to move up nine slots and Mel When you hear the 40 Niners are going up to pick three. What's your first reaction to their new slot in the draft? They have isolated a quarterback that Kyle Shanahan feels like. And John went feels like 10 point. Put us over the top that we have all this talent we were in a Super Bowl could have won that Super Bowl very use. They had a quarterback made a few more throws in that eight minute mark in the fourth quarter. When was like they gonna beat Patrick Holmes and the chief and now to get back injuries obviously decimated them this past year, uh, little variety of positions, but I think they feel like what's a 2022 1st 2023 1st. They're hoping it's around 30 32 s so they're not really that concerned about that. From what their expectations of this football team are third round picks the late third anyway, so for them if they do We talked about the time the feeding frenzy for quarterbacks and they could not wait to 12. I thought Max Jones could be there in 15. Obviously, they don't agree, Carolina eight. Now, where are they going to do that?.

Todd McShay Tyler Murray Jalen Waddle Matthew Stafford Mark Chase Russell Wilson Kyle Shanahan Chris Philadelphia Eagles Devante Smith Patrick Holmes Miami Dolphins Max Jones Friday afternoon Kyle Mel Kiper Jr Justin Fields Zach Wilson John Super Bowl

"I mean, there are a lot of other places because some Super Bowl but They had a chance to win that Super Bowl and Matt Ryan takes the sack with is an immobile quarterback. And then Pat Mahomes. He watches you know what he was able to do in the second half of that Super Bowl with the mobility, the ability to extend plays to me the first the first time I had when this trade went down was Trey Lance makes all the sense in the world. Kyle Shanahan might want toe Expand his his catalog. If you will, in terms of his offensive play calling, you have someone who can make a play when the initial play breaks down, and he also has 17 starts at the FCS level. You've got Jimmy Garoppolo there for a year can kind of be a bridge. You know, a Gap bridge if you will, like Mahomes was in Kansas City with Alex meant and it will give Kyle timeto work with Lance and get his footwork right and make a more accurate That's the only hole in his game. But then you hear guys in the league and And some some reporters that we trust say, Don't sleep on Mack Jones. You know, he fits exactly what Kyle Shanahan is looking for in terms of being able to pick things up quickly being ready to go and what he what he's able to do medicine. So it's gonna be interesting to see. I don't think Justin Fields from Ohio State is going to be the pit. I'm 50 50 right now on whether it's lance, the more mobile guy who needs developing or Matt Jones, who could probably come in and compete for that starting job, even though he only had 17 starts in college, But just mentally, he is so prepared in terms of being able to read coverage and what you can do You want to make sure that I asked you about Justin Fields in a moment again. Now there are plenty of conversation to be had about what the 40 Niners will do. But none of us maybe. Except for John Lynch. I'll Shanahan. Adam Peters, their assistant general manager, and their owner. January probably know what the real intention is. Right now. Let me just ask you this simply know what would you do if we presume Trevor Laurence goes one easy part. Zack Wilson goes to which feels more and more likely by the day. What would you do if the rest of the board is available? And you're the 40 Niners of victory? I would take Justin Fields, but that that's May the Mack Jones thing and I'll go to Mac Jones tied. Where do you have won your bride in the 12 and you? I remember a lot of GM's back in the day would always say we put this. This exercise of putting a board together is done for a reason. And I know a lot of boards change right before the draft. Everybody was shot. Their draft morning in the border would be different from the night before. We've heard all those stories, but I think you do all these ranking and ratings for a reason and Gotta trust your board. And I think that protects you against certain things. And then you see where quarterbacks ultimately end up much higher than normally re great them. I'll ask you thought I've been 12 right now about Mack Jones. Where do you have on your big board? Matt Jones. I have a 14 is the fourth quarter back ahead of head of Justin Fields. Who's right behind him and 50. Right, So, Yeah. So you would take based on the we're talking about right? You would train Lance. I would take that just in the fields. I'll probably take Mack Jones. So shall your board 12 guy on my board Some people have in the thirties, not Jones is a remarkable story. This is even more remarkable than Joe Burrow because Joe Burrow went number one, and he had played and he had improved and he had all that those things, but he had legs. He could be single, handily beat Alabama with his leg and you think about Mack Jones and where he is, and I know college. Mike Shanahan drafted Kirk Thousands when he drafted our teeth racers like Kirk Cousins comparison, there was 1/4 round pick of supposed to the third pick overall, but it's gonna be a little bit fascinated with such great Lance was the most fascinating player I've ever great. Not tied up, though You would probably agree with that. And now you're factor Mack Jones into the debate with the 40 Niners Do is gonna be a critical decision, but I think we all agree that Mack Jones is now and where fight air that we did never. We never would have expected into being And when you compare the two quarterbacks Burrow versus Matt Jones, just feeding What's your point? Now? I mean, Borough had Justin Jefferson. We saw what he did as a rookie in the NFL to Mark Chase in 2019, who had a record setting season for I think, receiving touchdowns and receiving yards in the SEC and terrorist Marshall, who is going to be, you know, a top 50 pick in this year's draft. So and Clyde Edwards lair who's the only first round running back? Drafted last year, so he was surrounded by a lot of talent. Joe Brady was in there for the one year and clearly got the best that out of Joe Burrow, so I think there's a real strong comparison between the two. And that's part of the reason why I don't think it's completely You know? Out of pocket to say that the number three pick for San Francisco could be Mack Jones in this year's draft.
