"Think there are some other There's also that maybe would be able to reduce the need for so many additional teachers. And you know whether that is providing. A shorter day of instruction fourth. Person, to free up that teacher who just you know provided instruction on a short day to do some work some additional work the rest of the day with the students who are learning remotely that would reduce the need for so many more teachers and assists the. Save money and and create consistency also at the children who are at home. If they ever do come back to the building, we'll come back to the same teacher. So I think there's a lot of Barrett there as well but again, you know hindsight's twenty twenty or if this had happened again, I, I would suggest considering those things great interesting. In the I'm in, we've seen his take a number of twists and turns already. So we'll. See what other ones come around but hopefully, not too many other shakeups because we know you and teachers and the administrators, and obviously the students and families have been through a lot here. So hopefully, this will go fairly smoothly from here. "But they just felt that it needed to be done. So you know the vote was made but it wasn't made with any joy a pleasure whatsoever. You know the response was probably as as positive as I could have expected to be from the marriage. So. So let's sort of zoom back out even further here. What's at the root of all this? What? What went wrong what what do you? What do you point to when you say wow, you know we're were drafting this resolution and we have a list of you know fifteen or twenty issues with this process that have been handled poorly. What what went wrong here what's at the root of this? I think honestly I think what's at the root of this is a lack of. to school leaders that was probably closely. And then. From there. I would I would have to say that it was changing guidance. That that, just kept coming in people would would get a piece of guidance they would. Call in. You know they would call a meeting with their parents communities over the you know on the computer and they have a meeting and they would ask. Hold. and then they would have to recall another meeting to change that guidance or they'd be so many questions asked. That, they didn't have answers for which was frustrating parents and families, and then they were finding out when they reached out to their immediate supervisor, superintendent? Superintendent. Didn't have. The information that they needed. I mean late Friday night on Russia Shana. They received a whole long list of guidance that sort of intimated that you know it should be from Monday morning. some of our. Administrators who had been. Working from home for six months. were. sent emails on a Sunday afternoon to report to a school on Monday morning with no kinds of make any childcare arrangements or other arrangements they may have needed to make because they weren't expected to actually learn expecting to leave their homes for work on..

"We're we are concerned earning staffing. Of the schools we were pretty set and we think we've done a good job and I and I have to give the city credits for this with getting all the p. p. e. and the more floor markings over to the schools and really the custodial staff and buildings for cleaning them up and a couple of schools I visited yesterday were spotless. getting plexiglass into the buildings where they needed shields to separate partition. So so there's been a lot of positives here, but our main concern right now with getting the schools open is the staffing and You know there is a tremendous need for additional staff right now, the department has been redeploying Central Office folks to try to plug in some holes, but that's you know temporary and we're going to need to get a lot more teachers into the schools to make sure that you know every teacher every child has a teaching. and. So do have any ballpark range on that number? There was estimates of ten thousand to twelve thousand needed. The mayor has said he secured somewhere around forty five, hundred There were concerns that there really wouldn't be enough teachers for tomorrow in middle schools and high schools are reopening to students coming in person you have a sense of what where the numbers stand can be very challenging to try to to get. Yes. It is challenging to get exact number, but the number of between attendance at twelve thousand is probably pretty accurate but keep in mind that includes not only teachers that need to be in the school buildings to receive the students in person. But that also includes teachers to work with the students remotely who are at home whether they chose whether they opted for fully remote destruction or the students in the blended model who are home a couple of days a week and rotating into the building so that there is a major some you know in-person folks but the the big number that ten to twelve thousand number was including all of the students in the system..

"Welcome to maximum Murphy. This is Max from Gotham Gazette coming up on the show in just a few minutes. I will be speaking with President of the New York City Principals. Union. That's Mark Cannizzaro he's the president of the Council of school supervisors and administrators. The Principals Union of the New York City public schools will talk with President Cannizzaro about the reopening of city schools. It's a immense week for New York City Education this week last week after multiple delays we saw some students returning to classrooms and this week a lot more students returning to. Classrooms including yesterday the return of Kedah five students and Keta eight students at different schools, and then coming up tomorrow the return of middle and high school students to school buildings. Now, of course, that still at limited capacity, the students that are doing in person learning, there's only a certain number allowed in each in the buildings each day depending on building capacity in classroom capacity, and we also have almost a fifty fifty split at this point in terms of students that have been signed up to do all remote learning by their parents or guardians, which means that. You know there's a new set of challenges in terms of schools having to teach those students all remote, but it also means for the in person learning crowd. It's fewer students have to worry about in figuring out their schedules. So there's actually more opportunity for those students that are doing something called blended learning where some of the time they're coming into the school buildings, and then some of the time they're doing remote learning. There's actually more opportunity given those high numbers of all remote students that the blended learning students can be in the buildings a little bit more. So perhaps, the silver lining for those students in the fact that so many other students are doing all remote. There is so much to watch for as city schools reopened to the extent they're reopening fully this week, we'll have all the grades said, hundreds of thousands of students returning to classrooms quite an experiment happening in New York, city amid the continued corona virus pandemic..

They're beef they're handling of their covert time reopening plan. The issues have been ongoing. So, says the president of the Council of School Supervisors and administrators, Mark Cannizzaro. His new book is seven days in Augusta behind the scenes at the master's and as we spoke about last time in an interview that will probably now never see the light of day but will be archived in the National Broadcasting Museum. I'm sure We talked about the fact. That eight is Unique among golf's majors you know. This is obvious. It's the only one words in the same place every year. The way that the tennis majors are in the same place every year in. So Wimbledon has that Aura Roland Garros has that aura There are other places that regularly play host to the other majors. Us opened the PGA. The Oh the British open but but it's the only one where there every year that makes a big difference too. It makes a massive difference that was one of the first observations Phil Mickelson made. When I spoke to him he actually wrote the forward to the book which was pretty cool. And you know what I was trying to kind of talk to fill about. What makes what sets the masters apart. It was exactly what you just said. He's you know he talked about the fact that history is made at that very golf course every year for the last. You know you know X. amount of years and you know you mentioned Wimbledon for example. I'm a massive tennis guy myself. You mentioned Wimbledon and Roland Garros and US Open. I used to go to abuse open when it was back and forth hills days The difference is with Augusta. You've got historic moments. That have taken place in different years on different golf holes on that golf course that people remember whether it's incredible you know chip in. Tiger made you know on sixteen with Verne. Lundquist call You know you name it. You know the the part that that Nicholas made eighty six you know to seize the moment Sixteen so there's historic moments. That have happened all around those grounds on different parts of it that have become Laura you know of that of that tournament and Every year there's something new a new piece history that's made and You know that to me is what sets it apart and that was the first observation. That film made as to what sets apart? Because it's just it's it's the same place every year in history is made at that place every single year and we all refer back to it. You know when something takes place on a whole we we you know we say oh well you know that's where so and so did such and such you know years from now we'll talk about twelve and Augusta. Amen Corner which is where tiger seize the moment last year when Molinari put the ball in the water you know so did so to Tony fee now and And kept as well and those guys all you know ruin their chances of winning the green jacket and Tiger seize that moment and charged ahead and ended up winning his wife and for years? We'll be talking about that so there's always something you know Fred Couples as ball in ninety two sitting up on the bank. There you know raise creek. You know getting an amazing lucky break. So there's so many things there that we refer back to and that's what sets it apart. Steve Marquess zero more. Before I let you go it's always fun talking with you Who's your favorite? We know the great you mentioned. Many the great ones the couples and the Faldo's The tigers and Jack and so on who's your favorite obscure winner of the Masters. I would say. Probably my favorite obscure winter. And this is coming from the ones that I've covered okay When Charles when Charles Schwartz will one African South African It that tournament. People don't really remember what he did that I he be burning out from from fifteen in to win that golf tournament and Enough to buy some vowels which were missing from his name. Yes yes so and Charles. Its shero okay right But I mean I would say that probably would be you know one but I think if there's if there's one of all time and I didn't cover it and it's hard to call them obscure because he was he's an Augusta native but really the greatest obscure winner of all time at Augusta's Larry Mize and eighty seven. You know and that's essentially. Unfortunately I don't see unfortunately but I mean in a bad way. But that's all Larry's really known for is winning the Masters and chipping in to beat Greg Norman in a playoff on the eleventh hole and I mean he came from nowhere. You know and I've got a great anecdote in the book. Actually from a friend of Larry's who grew up with Larry who owns t-bone the speak iconic steakhouse. That's right down the street from Augusta National And it's it's the unofficial nineteenth hole. Gusta because all the caddies and the fans and everybody jamming their Masters Week and mark. Who's the owner there? He grew up with With with with my eyes and he and he used to him and his buddies laugh at my eyes and say you know all that guy wants to is hit balls at the reins doesn't want to chase girls and drink beer. He's just out banging balls at the practice range all day. What does he think he's going to win the masters one day and that's literally what he said when they were in high school. And you know having you know having there was you know there. He was winning in an Augusta native when in the nineteen eighty seven. So I think that's probably even though I didn't cover I wish I did That's you know without question that has to be the greatest. And he's one of the classiest sweetest man on the planet M- is is so I would probably put that above all for that. The answer to your question on that well. We hope This conversation for our listeners has has whetted their appetites or maybe just satiated them because they're not getting the masters they were hoping for this week So many great stories from our Cannizzaro in his new book seven days in Augusta behind the scenes at the master's mark. "This is the sporting life on. Espn radio and the ESPN APP. Here's Jeremy SCHAAP. This would have been the week the masters this would have been the week. When all is would have been on tiger woods trying to defend the title he miraculously one in twenty nineteen after a decade of not. Winning majors winning his fifteenth at the twenty nine thousand nine masters but of course there is no masters now it has been scheduled for November. We welcome to the show. Somebody who's been covering the masters for many many decades. His new book is seven days in Augusta behind the scenes at the master's Marquette Zero always a pleasure to have you on the show. Jeremy that to be with you how you doing. I'M GONNA managing and I hope you're doing the same of course you're planning To be in Georgia this week instead. Your your home in New Jersey You what was your reaction when you heard i. The masters was being postponed and then that it was being rescheduled for November. Well I'll tell you everything happens so fast here. I mean. I was down the Players Championship at Jacksonville when you know when they suddenly canceled event after the first round and the next thing. I know I'm taking the first flight back to New York and it just seems like it's been whirlwind since then and this. You know this entire crisis is you know is elevated by the minute it seems like so everything has changed all of our worlds and obviously the sports world and the golf world you know just came to a halt and the masters was the first. It's really essentially as soon as the PGA tour You know suspended. It's it's you know right around the time of PGA tour suspended. Its play The masters was the first of the four majors to say. You know we're GONNA WE'RE GONNA take a pause and spend and you know. Their words were postponement. Which at that time was you know felt I don't WanNa say reassuring but at least there was a sliver of positively to it in that they weren't cancelling it So at that point we just kind of waited to see how where we're gonNA fall and with Augusta you really can't play during the summertime because it's just. It's you know that he was too oppressive in in Augusta Georgia. And you know. Essentially the club closes down from From the end of end of May until mid October so the speculation immediately ran to having a master's sometime late fall So the only time I really made sense really was late October early November. So obviously on on Monday of this week they announced that it would be you know the week in November ninth and You know I think as long as we're on the other side of this you know this virus and we're able to conduct sporting events. It could be a magnificent event in November. It'll be fascinating you know for it to be different TIME SLOT. It'll be a little cooler Scores maybe not be won't be good because the winds will be up but You know I think it's GonNa be fascinating to see unfold. You know if indeed it does. I think with all the governing bodies of golf yesterday on Monday you know everybody kind of reset the schedule and I think every one of them did it with fingers crossed the open championship cancelled but the PGA the US Open the Masters rescheduled for later in the year. We're speaking with Marquette zero. The Eminent Golf writer whose new book is seven days in Augusta behind the scenes at the masters who terrific book and Mark. Before we get to the specifics of the book. He'll how do you think is positioned to to whether the corona virus crisis? It's obviously a sport. In which social distancing from the perspective of the athletes themselves can be practiced fairly easily. Well what what happens to golf now? Jeremy I think of all of the professional sports I think golf has the the best chance to to carry on because of that it's not a contact sport You know the players and caddies and the you know the officials can all be a proper distance apart. I think what's interesting with golf? Is I think. Golf is the one sport that I can see having becoming a television. Only event with no with no spectators Easiest And you know obviously. Nobody wants to see that. But I think we're also star for sports right now. We'll take anything I mean. At this point you know. People are betting on video. Nba Games right. So you know we all want live. Sports in some manner and Tennis in Russia. Yeah so I think what's happened with golf now and they have not announced anything. There's a lot of speculation you know the PGA tour came out on Monday and said that they were you know they essentially were hoping to continue their schedule. Starting sometime in June and that to me sounds really soon I mean I don't WanNa be a pessimist but I can't imagine that we are going to be at a point in any of our major sports. Jeremy We're worth fans are going to be in arenas and on golf courses as soon as it just shocked and we're hearing a really. They're really just moving moving targets. I mean a none. None of it can possibly be set in stone now. No nothing set in stone and listening is fluid every day but But I think with regard to your question about the Gulf the Gulf can take place as television. Event Without Spectator is much easier much more manageable. I should say probably than any other sport. Because it's not a contact sport You know if you're watching television you know you're unless you're watching the masters and even then you can't really hear the roars you know if you're at Augusta the wars are you know as you know from being down there you know. The roar isn't much the fabric of the entire tournament there but on television. You know it's not like watching. Nca tournament basketball game or something like that or the or an NFL game. Where you know you can feel the vibe of the fans you know through the television set. Golf is not necessarily like that off as a kind of a quiet. Watch if you will so I think that golf can absolutely survive without fans you know in on its courses and I think that's in that way I think it probably is going to get going. You know maybe in June and it will take place without spectators for how long that takes place. I don't know it's interesting. Jeremy I you know I was. I was listening to Andy North. You know our good friend and colleague and On on Scott Van Pelt show last night and he said he his his sentiment. Was that a golf tournament. Should not take place if there can't be fans there if you can't just conduct it normally and I love anti the death but I completely disagree with him. I think we are so starved for sports. Live sports I any golf fan would sign up right. This second to watch golf with no spectators on the golf course and if that's the way it has to be for however long it has to be you know we'll all sign up for speaking with Mark Cannizzaro who writes about golf and other things for the New York. Post has done so for decades. His new book is seven days in get seven days in Augusta behind the scenes at the masters And Mark. What about golf other in other parts of the world You know we we've seen if there are other parts of the world where the shutdown on the sports landscape Was delayed longer than it was here. There are other places presumably where it will be up and running sooner What do we know about how the other tours around the world feel about Resuming play at this point. Well for starters obviously as we reference the British Open Cancelled on Monday So you know that's a worldwide international event Although at this point the entire PGA tour is a world tour to a large degree but You know it's it's different everywhere even in the metropolitan area here where we both lived. Jeremy. It's different I mean. There are many golf courses. That are open. I'm not talking about professional golf. The Golf Courses People playing golf in Westchester County. And you know the New York State Public. Cork courses are open. The New York State Park Horses. Bethpage's open. I don't think I knew that I'm in New Jersey and there's not a single course open New Jersey. They're all they're all closed in Jersey but many of them are open in New York. It's just so you know and From what I'm hearing. There is some open in Connecticut but but so it really is a very It varies everywhere and You Know I. I don't know what's going on all around the world but I do know that you know. Most most anything that has to do with any professional golf is in a pause right now until further notice. I do want to talk about your book as well though we had a conversation about your book a number of weeks ago that we were planning to air this week to coincide with the masters of course We scrap that because the whole world has changed in the time since we last spoke But when you think about what makes the Special what are the first things that come to mind well? The first thing is really annoying. Things that I'm missing desperately right now as we as we sit here and speak I would have flown down there by Sunday night and begun writing on Monday and I'd be in full fledge. You know Column Writing Mowed Down There Right now and to me the most special thing about it is the tradition that takes place down there. There's and I talked about a lot in the book. There's there's it's the one major championship that's played in the same place every year. Jeremy as you know and and you know there are certain things to take place. In fact I construct book that way to some degree. The seven days. We're basically began yesterday Monday and go right through Sunday which the final round. And you know tonight. For example Tuesday. Night as we're speaking is is is the annual championship dinner. Where you know. All the past champions get together in the previous year's champion hosts the dinner and and and and decides menu and whatnot You know Wednesday is the par three tournament Part of the contest which is just a special kind of sidelight with the creates. A lot of memories there You know Thursday morning leading into the opening round is the the ceremonial first tee shot. And they've all of a sudden you know several times come out and and and Kinda get kicked tournament off so to speak. When I first started covering the tournament it was Sam Snead Byron Nelson and Gene Sarazen. Then that you know those gentlemen passed away. And then it became Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer and Gary Player Obviously Arnie is passed away. And now it's Jack and Gary that's just as those are special moments to me You know and You know the one thing about the masters and and I think it was to me. It was the genesis of this book. And Jeremy 'cause you you know that none of us can get onto Augusta and play the golf course. 'cause it's one of the most exclusive places in the planet and The other thing is the golf tournament itself. It's the hardest ticket and sports to acquire so most people most sports fans and go offense for them. The masters is almost kind of this mythical mystical event. That's a television event. So I tried to blend things in that. I've seen in the twenty five masters I've covered on the golf course. We've all watched and seen on live..

"The more your phone calls in a little while but joining us right now my good buddy great sports writer New York Post is book is out great author as well seven days in a gust of behind the scenes at the masters we could only wish that though we were coming up to the masters would be starting this coming Thursday unfortunately it's not but mark Cannizzaro was with us mark how are you I'm doing fine Joe did he voice how you doing out there all right bro agony don't do it okay really really upset about obviously that he got his situation where we all are but I really was looking forward to the masses this year see if tiger could come back and defend his title who does it or does he would play he said a lot of injuries already this year he's missed a lot of tournaments when we were still playing golf but how about that how about the booklet tells little bit about your book seven days at a cost well I mean for starters it is a bummer I I'd be leaving you know actually tomorrow morning for for I was my my right like right go down there and and cover for the week and I've done twenty five masters this would've been my twenty six that hopefully I'll get the twenty sixth and in that later in the fall but yeah I did this but it was really fun project I did all but the last year or so is seven days in August having done twenty five of those twenty four before I did last year's obviously and you know I that publisher came to me in this kind of bounce some ideas off and I said look I've done so many of these things I've seen so many somebody somebody amazing things on the golf course but you know I want to share some things in in in a book that people don't really see when they're watching the broadcasts on ESPN and CBS and whatnot and you know if there's so many things like C. during that week you know whether it's you know the middle of the park three contest are talking to players under the **** of the famous oak tree behind the you know behind the clubhouse or the things going around the town like John Daly posting up at a Hooters down the street from Augusta national you know signing memorabilia in women's boxing it's just like it's crazy scene down there and that tire tournament transforms at that small city for that one week a year it's like a circus comes to town and it's it's one of the coolest greatest circuses you'll ever see so I just try to blend some some things in the you know that I've covered and seem like tiger winning in ninety seven and I was to tell you one last year and right at the Norman collapse ninety six things like that and just try to get a little flavor of what goes on in and around the tournament that maybe people don't see because the masters Joe you know is it I mean it's the hardest thing in sports in my opinion again I don't think I'm wrong on that it's also the most exclusive golf club on the planet you can't just go get P. time there you know you need to give you the nope remember to just get in the game right right right to some degree I think this is like the masters and at Augusta national is almost like this mystical thing to people but it's something we see on television you know because you know it's not accessible for most people I mean you know I've been so fortunate to be covered and you know so many of them over the years but most people can't get there so I try to be able to you know bring readers inside the gates and inside this into the city for that week just to kind of see the madness that goes on there and it wasn't last year makes it a point three was last year with only female made the whole wanted but almost broke his leg yeah that was the year before last year okay your guidance that was amazing you know the par three contest for a listeners is just is it an annual occurrence yeah it takes place on the Wednesday of of masters right which right after actors from day and it's incredibly little there's a little nine hole par three amazing golf course on the grounds there Augusta and yeah female that was the one of the but at the end I tell you what the most amazing thing was he snaps as almost matches ankle has been knocking it back in place after celebrating a hole in one and and there was speculation he might not be on play the tournament and that you know the next day turns up and plays and he was in contention right well into Sunday which was amazing feat so that was that was one of the cool moments yeah I was yeah Patrick reed I guess one that two years ago right we actually don't want one yeah I was right the mix you know it's a very emotional as dad was there and and his family and I mean they were two years it was just a very very cool scene there some of what any I've seen what about the state what about golf right now I mean unfortunately we you know we we started playing the players and it never you know that was it that was like when everything went down at that first round and it was all gonna be post it was all gone we never we not get into the major season when I going to see the Astors we all preceded September with we would see it then what what about what about where we are right now you golf because it's a little different time because there's so many guys on the toolbox that can win I mean every you watch these tournaments every week yeah you have no idea who's going to win week to week I know it's early on in the just leaving us masters there were so many incredible story lines you know can tiger repeat the facts right as always in the mix a Rory's looking for his career grand slam to be completed with a master list so yeah you've got so many of you know paprika uses you know DJ just move down the line there's there you know the game is very healthy it's so it's so interesting you mention that because I was down and and Jacksonville cover the Players Championship right right it's just that you know it Hey there this thing all happened so fast for all of us you know not just in the sports world in the golf world one not just everybody but you know in my little world you know I'm down there covering golf tournament on the on the Thursday about to dinner with some colleagues on Thursday night and almost everybody's looking at their phones on Twitter and you know Tom Hanks is now in Australia with his right and he got it and then I got together in the NBA season the suspended yeah and so it happened so fast and and and they were speculating okay well then there's gonna be no fans in attendance you know for the rest of the tournament and then by ten o'clock that night they cancel that normal flight home and it's kind of like you've been run incense so I don't know what's going to happen I don't think anybody has any answers answers for any of the stuff I've been listening your show this morning and you know you've articulated as well right now the best speculation is that the view it's looking right now like the masters is going to try to get you know go in in November well that's the same now November November is open specters of course doesn't even open up you know they close it every year it was the end of at the end of may and a moral day and they don't even have the members told to like mid October the just gets more gets really hot down there the weather once out so it's looking like right now November we're still waiting to hear I reported last about a week and a half ago at winged foot it's been told that the U. S. the U. S. open is not gonna take place at Wingfoot in violent writers to helping to have it take place at Wynford later in this it'll some sometime in September they're hoping but there's a few domino's it still have to fall the PGA championship has already suspended and they're hoping to get you know do something later that was we're in San Francisco that was that was at Harding park in San Francisco right you know the U. S. but as I said is absolutely not gonna be played in in June and it's just a matter of when and and and hopefully it stays winged foot the British open there was a report by golf digest a couple days ago that they were gonna cancel completely now they have not what is actualized me July is that what it is that is a mid July yeah so they're they're you know the report the report from golf digest was that they've got an insurance policy you know for something like a pandemic so that we would not lose out all the money if they just you know if they don't play so but they're they've come out either the R. eight it that is come out and said that they are contemplating things including suspension but they never they never use the cancel work so we'll see what happens there and a lot of top of course is supposed to be taking place at the end of September right so you know whether that takes place at whistling straits here really suspend that I suspect that could be suspended for a year if you had asked me I think that'll go next year but yeah it's everything's up in the air I mean hope is you know the the pie in the sky hope is that they'll get all four majors in the fall you know like maybe like a leaf you know late always sometime in August for the PGA US open in September he said maybe perhaps of the British suspenseful September as well and maybe takes the Ryder Cup slot and and then a master's in November but obviously you know again you know we've we've you talked about earlier show how do we know when anything's gonna take place and if they do take place I can tell you this it's it's not gonna be the grand affairs of they were before they may well be no spectators all yeah I would think not okay I agree with you it's all in a mock Cannizaro great sports writer for the New York Post I mention his book seven days in Augusta it's out now behind the scenes at the masters yup one of my favorite golfers Jordan Spieth's and what happened to this guy did you think that we will ever see speak back to the guy who you know dominated that one year we want to make is the almost won the British open that year as well you did win the British open after that but I always say it is what I I don't think he's really and we brought the British after or the open championship after he will how he collapsed and was that masters of Danny Willett but I don't think he's ever really recovered from that I mean how bout that well it's hard to say their job isn't it because he did go what a British open after that right right you know although we almost spit that out as well as your mall you know with that crazy she knows where she is away right right on thirteen but so I don't know I think that B. L. Jordan is one of my favorite people in the game and and I think the thanks to much of the keys all over over analytical in my opinion that's just me that's a my mother you know ten in ten eighty cap opinion so to speak but I can I think he thinks too much I think he's you know I think he's he's allowed to he's he's an emotional guy if he's allowed his his struggle to you know to seep into other parts of his game in the Jordan used to be the best part of the game when.

"Well what I calls I made to mark Cannizzaro is gonna join us at eight o'clock he are the author of the book seven days in Augusta which was only seven days until we were going to Augusta which is really what it would be a week from today would be the third round of the masters unfortunately that's not going to be the case right now but we'll talk to mark eight o'clock in a pop clobbered nine we'll talk football with him what the role of many football books will talk to him as well but right now at the eight five five two one two four two two seven eight five five two one two for CBS the aforementioned might it might help him join this Mike how are you Hey John how are you doing good Mike I wish I could record it that way he said the apple apple mentioned Mike from it now but I mean I I kind of like a superstar well Hey you know what my coming fine we're all super stars in our own right aren't we the something are what why I really love you guys and having you guys do a great job I want both before I get my question I just want to make a comment you know I grew up Justin I want your help professional I I think like people calling in and should try to be more optimistic and talked optimistically I know things are great now but right create a positive result I believe and you know order top spot now obviously we've made it out of pandemics before obviously nothing of that if we lose Mike what Mike Mike let me say it is that are you talking about positivity I I gotta tell you I I agree with you you know we did the all the gloom and doom that you get on the news you know it's only so much I could watch I tried after the show every night to watch trump's press conferences which are always very very interesting but then after that I'm done I don't want to see anything any more than that you know there's only so much you can take everything you don't I I've said this before this makes me crazy you know you're watching the news and I got these numbers up like it's a scoreboard you know the amount of cases people that have contacted the covert nineteen people that have died from cold with nineteen people all over the world that have people all over the world that have died on over it you don't think you'll be going this is not a football game I don't need to see the scoreboard we all know it's bad you know you could you could tell us in your newscast as we go along with the numbers off the white need to seat up to the minute yes stuff makes me crazy how bout showing as the numbers of the people that are recovered from this state because a lot of people which is that one of our poll is yeah was it Robbie lake success I believe it was who you had it and he's recovered from it how about we talk talk about the people that are recovered because there's you know there's there's thousands of hundreds of dollars per thousand or more people that have already recovered from this thing so I'm with you man I'm tired of it makes me crazy the the negativity the gloom and doom we're in the worst of it now you know and all that stuff may be true but you know Hey give me give me a little more positivity that what we get I I could agree with that more John John in Lyndhurst joins John how are you good morning Joe nice to talk to you pledges all my actually we actually go back about thirty years we worked together for a short time many years ago is that is that in the food business John is that right no no that was in the auto business all okay all right I was in that so so there you go we work with we work and how to get there about thirty years ago for a short period okay okay got you got it right you got it I wanted to we were talking about call back last week yep and I have a little store backstory that I think is very inspirational I'm not a cowboys fan my older brother was a cowboys fan and he passed away in twenty seventeen yet terminal cancer sorry sure thank you thank you Starbuck was his idol when he was a kid one of those situations unfortunately he didn't make it but you know he kept saying I'm gonna come back I'm going to come back I'm going to beat this you know as as a lot of people you know you like to have optimism sure Sir unfortunately we knew it was terminal what do you do for someone that you cannot do anything for thanks to the internet I managed to get an email address restore back from one of his companies corporations sent off an email explaining the situation you know my brother would love to you know hear from you or any anything you know to try to make him feel better inspire him a couple weeks later I actually got an email and a phone call from Roger Staubach subsistence in Texas wow and yeah I was pretty blown away anyway she you know she was very understanding very compassionate arranged a telephone call my brother was living in Connecticut and you know she said you know let him know that tomorrow at four PM you know he's going to be receiving a phone call now I wanted to be a surprise to him so I called his fiancee and I and I explained it to listen at four o'clock mmhm it's going to be a call tomorrow from Rajasthan back brands allow and she you know make sure that everything was ready long story short my brother didn't believe that it was really handy thought maybe was one of his football buddies from New Jersey playing a prank on you know he he he'd be finally after a minute or so he realized I wasn't there I'm getting all this secondhand right you right this really is captain comeback and he was completely blown away so back was a complete gentleman you know explain you know as a matter of fact ended up sending him an autographed football which unfortunately my brother had passed before he received it well but you know he was very he was very inspirational to Hammond very gracious and they talk football and you know they they talked about the Jackie Smith drops right right yeah other activities is white why did what did you think about that play and and saw back told him coach Landry said run that play and so back really didn't want to do it because apparently they had never ran that plate in the end zone if I'm not mistaken okay easy Jackie Smith was just as surprised as he as anybody that they ran that play and he he felt totally arable when he dropped a pass the lady you know they laughed about that and and you know after after that happened it just didn't I I said you know I renewed my faith in humanity asset a man of this magnitude to take time out of his day to make a phone call to you know unfortunately it's terminal you know fan like that it just made me feel good and made me feel like it really is true gentlemen in this world with all the horrible things that you say that you hear and people say to each other and you know it was it was it was very inspiring and I will forever have respect for that man and what he did you know my brother John that's a great call I appreciate it thank you that's again sorry about your brother but that the Rajasthan back I've had a number of occasions eleven I over years of carpet you abi navy game without a Baltimore down to Philadelphia we were there this past year and I've got a number of occasions the interview store back the meat store back he's one of the classiest guys you'll ever meet I even have an opportunity to talk a couple passes are dropped when I was kid about like Jackie Smith and you know ask you got to ask him about that that was a Super Bowl against Pittsburgh after the nineteen seventy eight season I figure without the Superbowl was but you know they lost obviously the second row if they would lose the disputed a great steel curtain teams and he always said he blamed Jackie forty even blame widely for play he blamed himself it's all in the past who always said rod you know you you got you got to catch the ball but he he took the blame itself greatest yeah I would say it's about sort of act he's one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time no doubt about it to me is top five all time great quarterback I don't think it's any question and I always say to John unite is was the guy that invented the two minute drill but I just thought back perfect nobody nobody let the cub he was never out of a game store back in those cowboys teams of seventies many were never out of a game we're Roger Rick at quarterback so wanted a real real class acts of all time all bloody Mr patriot fan Allen Paramus is with us al how are you only takes up the you know mobile carrier and get ready for work and I did not know that do not know yet yeah and in fact it don't be afraid to open email you know I touch about five thousand I opened every day don't worry don't worry you know Joe you know I'm seventy two years old god I I I I knew you were I know you might have been my age or a little older I did notice never been sick a day in my life eight with what's going on today are you know a.

So I just I just pulled in. I'm in Orlando. I Abbas four LS sports Players Championship next week. And they actually do a call about. Should. Cool story. Good one. Yeah. It's called him. Kevin debts while the air. There are some differences between golfer Keith Mitchell and former met and giant slugger Kevin Mitchell. All right. There's a there's a couple of there's a couple of small differences. All right, dude. You're the best. And and let's make it long before we speak again be well, enjoy Florida. Thanks, mark. Let's start. Let's talk next week. Okay. Why not let's do Dr. Mark Mark cannizzaro, the New York Post throwing a little cold water on the Odell Beckham Bonnie Jay do not want to trade to I read a lot right two. First rounders. Get a lot of good things to say need somebody other pieces for this team. I like everything he said about Odell Beckham to have them there. But I don't know. I mean just hearing that he's good in the locker room. That was good for me. Good for my head coach slow reinforcement there. He's not a cancer. Okay. With two first round picks, though that would mean you don't get Nick Bosa this year. Yeah. That's well. You know, I mean receiver no matter how you slice it coach. I don't know where it's coming from. Find me one. They haven't checked the quarterback since read hall took down Troy. Jimmy Webb and central carbon right back. Six eighty these sports..

"Yes, obviously, my favorite thing, you guys know this because you hear me making fun of it all the time. They would stretch the leaderboard on your television screen the Mitch beyond on limits of your screen. Okay. So it would actually reach the rug. You know? I mean, they would age. It would reach your rug. Okay, where the dog is sleeping to get tiger on the first page lurking. He's putting and, and here's the thing. Baba, Mitch all day long. And you know me I didn't get up at one thirty in the morning to watch, but I watched a fair amount of golf yesterday. They're telling you that I forget the last nine open winners shot at least in the sixties. The first of the crazy like that he doesn't, okay. He shoots even even part. And again, you just want to say to people sometimes no, the sport doesn't die. If he's not making a couple of birdies and here's what I'll say about tiger and again, and there's a long way to go and we're gonna we will kick this around all of Monday's podcast. Okay. He's got the same chance today to do what Tommy Fleetwood did. He has got a chance to move up that leaderboard and make a whole bunch of birds and maybe he will before the end of the day. But what we mostly see is an Ryan uses this expression all the time. Okay. Just another guy, a talented forty two year old golfer who who may someday and you could see it at this British Open, he might win a British Open someday, but he's become just another guy. And right now, Mitch, you're one hundred percent, right? There's more than thirty golfers between him and the lead, and they haven't even finished the second round yet I want to give credit where credit is due. Mike, that phrase came to my attention from the New York Post Mark cannizzaro who got it from your pal. The tuna. That is a Bill parcell ISM Jag, just a guy in this topic. You know before we leave it, Jordan Spieth may have summed it all up the best of anybody about what the nature of the course is an and the challenge. He says, five over could win it fifteen under could win it. Yeah, that's great image here again, when you look at the leaderboard and it's a fascinating international leaderboard the name that jumps out at me for all of us talking about tiger reclaiming past glory and finding it. The guy who I watch every single one of these majors now is ROY McElroy. Okay. Because he is now putting more distance between himself and major championships because it wasn't. It was about twenty minutes ago that we thought he was a locked to win ten. Okay. And he's still in his twenties to me, he is the most talented player on the planet. I believe he has more talent for this sport than anybody out there right now. And that includes Dustin Johnson and includes Jordan. Spieth includes anybody and I would love to. I think it would be great for. Gulf if he is in play on Sunday at Carnoustie. Well, he's, he's doing exactly. Like we said at the beginning of the podcast surviving the course, he's making shots off the fairway. He hasn't been on a lot of fairways boy. It doesn't look like he's hitting from deep stuff every other minute, Mitch. Yeah. But apparently, you know, given his background and everything, he knows what to do and you know, as we're speaking, he's right near the top of the leaderboard and I agree with you, I, he's dynamic. I love him and speeds and Tony for now and Tommy Fleetwood and all this whole new crop of golfers on. I just wish that the world and particularly the Gulf journalism world would would say they're okay. And if Tiger Woods comes back at forty two and winds, it'll be a fantastic story, but let the story happen and then write it..
