"Is fiftieth out of fiftieth where your environment is being so harmed that you can't even go into the ocean that you gotta be conscious about the air that you breathe or the water that you drink, that impacts people's quality of life. And so if we're serious about creating a state that is desired by everybody, which I can't imagine why anybody would want to choose Florida. We've got to make our state the kind of state deserving of the talent of our children. But it requires a governor who's interested in doing the right things taking the right steps and making sure that everybody pays their fair share corporations have to pay their fair share to in the state, which is why advocate for corporate tax rate increase of Florida's the scene of two of the worst mass murders in recent American history. The most recent one being Marjory stoneman Douglas high school. You your first appearance on this program was in reaction to that shooting as a candidate for governor. Now, what policies do you believe a Florida needs to enact as a result of that shooting? Well, you're right. And in fact, we just had a shooting incident in fact to that, took place in Duval county, Jacksonville, Florida one at the landing. And before that high school football game, we know that gun violence ravages not only our communities when it comes to mass shooting incidences, but their communities that have to deal with this issue. On a daily basis. And what we simply said is that we ought to instruct and enforce commonsense gun laws. If you want to own the power of God at your waist Bill, you at least have a background check. I believe that if you want to shoot a gun that can fire off sixty bullets in sixty seconds, you ought to join the military that though street, those guns rather have no place on our city streets. And I think that there are people who comment in decent in this state who really do want to see us take some very common sense and logical steps, and we just refuse to do it Lawrence, I think shit with you before. I mean, I was literally sued drug through court for two years by the NRA and the gun lobby all because at my city we refuse to repeal an ordinance which said you couldn't shoot guns and city parks. I mean how, how ridiculous is that notion? We got a return to some sense of of common decency and safety and security for all people. And right now the NRA has has run roughshod over this state and we gotta bring it back to a more common indecent place mayor, Andrew, gillum. Thank you very much for joining us. Once again, please come back and join us during the. I would like to hear more and thanks for having me Lawrence take care. Thank you coming up. What does Andrew gillum victory mean for Democrats in Florida and Democrats throughout your country, and why are voters supporting Andrew gillum? We will hear directly from some of those Florida voters and later Paul Manafort really doesn't want to go to trial in Washington DC. He wants to move the trial to a location that is dominated by Trump voters. So the jury box can be filled with Trump voters. We are sixty nine days away from the showdown between congressional Democrats and Republicans in the midterm elections. And that means we are also sixty nine days away from what is now the historic governor's race in the important swing state of Florida where Bernie Sanders endorsed democratic candidate mayor, Andrew gillum, who we just heard from the first African American major party nominee for Florida governor is running against the Trump endorsed Republican and Trump sounding Ron Disentis. There was little surprise that the Donald Trump endorsed Republican won the nomination in a state that Donald Trump won. But President Barack Obama also won the state of Florida twice. So can Andrew gillum inspire the voter turnout that delivered the to Obama wins in Florida. Here is why some Florida voters turned out for Andrew gillum yesterday. He seems to be caring about the people instead of himself in the money that they're putting in. He was backed by Bernie Sanders. I'm really big, Bernie Sanders supporter everything against what Trump is doing with the immigrants and the poor people separated their families. I think this is Astros I voted for people who are a little more moderate in the past, but now I think we need to go progressive and get rid of some of these old ideas..

"High school Three. Thousand students returned to class at Marjory stoneman Douglas high school that was the Florida school that. Unfortunately lost seventeen people during February fourteenth shooting So the building. Where the shooting occurred apparently there's a lot of new. Upgrades and changes the building where the shooting, occurred is blocked off. By twelve foot fence thirty four portable classrooms have been constructed as a replacement Students however the toll on CBS news that they still don't feel safe Jacqueline corn said. It doesn't make me feel safer no not at all I'm not. Gonna feel safe in school I don't feel safe anywhere at this point in my. Life she's the senior class president cortisol leader among student activists she's been most the summer, travel across the country promoting gun reform. And voter turnout she said until. We actually remove these weapons of war from off our. From our streets we. Are, not going to feel safe we're gonna have all those pretty. We want we could have a bulletproof backpack for. All, I care now Obviously these kids are, traumatized I you know I don't blame. Her for being that concerned I. We bought. Our kids volt for backpacks it's a bulletproof. Lining the backpack No I mean you know so only so much you can do it's only so much a cover but it's something right and it's ridiculous that we in this day and. Age have to worry and kids. Have to worry that they could be shot and killed when they're going to school and they don't, even want to go to school kids don't wanna go. To, school we're forcing them. To, go to, school and they're scared and I don't blame. Them, for being scared but we'll see this. Thinking is what also, scares me She goes until we actually remove these weapons of war from, off our from our streets were not gonna feel safe Let's say this was some sort of utopia where nobody at a weapon How, could you ensure that there's. No weapons I mean. You know I mean. We have laws against drugs certain drugs, are illegal we have. The laws if you are caught with the drug you go, to jail if you are caught, using the drug or go. To jail if you're caught selling the. Drug you go to jail yet people still get ahold of the drugs What's gonna be. A very difficult concept for a lot of. Us to, understand and, comprehend because, every time we hear school. Shooting and there's a. Lot of anxiety among. Periods just because the summer was a, little quiet when it. Came to shooting thank the Lord doesn't mean we're out of, the woods now we're back in, school season so you know. Parents and kids are thinking about this I, don't blame them for figured about this But Whenever something like that. Happens we're, like, okay you know? What, we we've got to get rid of these. Guts I, mean we, we we cannot let these guns get into the hands of people that want to kill our, kids but you're not gonna get rid of all the, guns You want Guns are if our police officers, need guns if our military, needs guns there are going to be guns on. This earth we are not going to be. A non, you know Non. Weaponize non-weapons carrying wielding planet, okay, we're very sophisticated we have. We have, swords we have there's all variety of bayonets we, have there's a wall variety, of weapons that we have and so when people. Say look we need more gun laws let's, say today It's, there's, a law say you cannot. Own a weapon There's still, going to be out there Because we're somebody who's. Deciding to kill a bunch of innocent people at. A school is obviously not law abiding This is where we have to really understand the logic of what we're gonna do And I. Personally want to exercise my rights. To protect me and my family I have guns I know how. To use them I know how to, clean them and I. Will protect my family if the poop every hits the fan somebody enters my house I want to be. Able to protect my kids. And the cats and other. Cats dogs always get mad they don't include them AS I will protect my pets So I you know I'm not sure. Where we need to go with this, gun debate so you. Know I don't like the idea of our students not feeling safe and I don't like the idea that. Our students are at risk. So what have they done Well, apparently they've installed on campus security, personnel they doubled it from nine to eighteen. They have, three armed, school resource officers they have more security cameras that have been installed. Along with a, single entry point system students and staff after where ID's at all times now I guess the idea thing helps but I wasn't. The shooter a previous student And by the time. Anybody would've noticed his ID or have. Not wearing an idea he was already. On campus so that's the idea thing is nice I think it helps I think it is an extra added security measures to keep it. Up, but it's you know it's not, that's not what's going to stop the shooter Upgrades the classroom doors so they lock automatically As we know. Andrew Pollock losses daughter meadow. In the attack he thinks the, school failed the students They say they're. Really just put abandoned on the situation Cruise the shooter does. Richard you'll courtroom for hearing that'd be sent for trial Many schools are now. Discussing what to do in terms. Of school security apparently. Broward County in Florida other talking about that'll detectors For our school districts controversial reversal plan to stall metal detectors, at the parkland school has. Now gotten a lot of Debate During a meeting on, Tuesday which was the eve of the first day school in the nonprofit campus safety, groups safe havens international presented reports the school board that argued metal detectors are ineffective of their on their own other measures that are, costly and could increase liability would be Ray machines for screening bags or staff trained to perform. Pat-downs so what they're saying is of you have a metal detector you can't just have a metal detector Kids have metal in their vans all the time we got these pencil cases you got your keys and your key rings what's the metal detector gonna do well yeah if you have a big weapon but then unfortunately. Somebody's coming up with a weapon they could just shoot whoever's near the metal detector and then enter You know unless the metal detector, is a trigger to a system that could put everybody on lockdown And then the pat-downs the liability of pat-downs now there was somebody who I think. Is the TSA, because he said he had a Pat down there was. In front of his kid the cats watch, I had a, Pat down which was a little intrusive I have to say there was a female and you know. Considering, September eleventh, considering what they have to do in the millions of people that fly every day I you know I don't mind. If accidentally certain parts get? Touched for them. To ensure that I don't. Have anything on my person you. Know what I mean I'm not gonna, I'm gonna choose my fights I'm gonna to pick my fights I don't think my. Rights are violated even though I think I've had more texture than I needed to. TSA Pat down I'm not gonna make a big deal about? It, because. I see, what good does are there other things I don't want government to intrude on yes absolutely But you know we need to cut the. TSA it's a break but do we want Pat downs and? High, schools I mean, are people going to, be so afraid, of a lawsuit that they're going. To do a, weenie Pat down I mean the thing was security Is I mean if you're gonna do security. You need, to really do it and that's why the TSA body cavity searches or you know they they have to? Look for, things in people's orifices I mean you can't do security halfway you can't It's gotta. Be thorough just. Like you can't. Just make laws guns are, outlawed drugs. Are outlawed, people have access to drugs, you know Technically. It's illegal for a kid right to have alcohol under the. Age of twenty. One a look. What a good job we're, doing there So we need to be. Realistic a practical wanting seven seven dollars Most of you know. That heart disease is the.

"Seven, seven. Eight fifty eighty five eighty, five and the conversation I had with John with assault rifles. Again there's a big difference between an assault style rifle an assault rifle which are two. Totally different things the media finally caught on and they ended. The word style because it looks like a mean got it looks like something that somebody would carry on the battle food field but fifteen dot, it just looks like one Chuck in stored how are you today. Hey rich getting back to the cruise, getting all these. Other folks are using the flip Wilson percents now not many people know, that but you will The flip Wilson defense the devil make. Me do it okay? I, remember. Him saying that a lot, so that's what the role using the flip Wilson defense just. Want to pass that onto you, crazy isn't it Yeah the devil made. Me do it which is why, I don't believe you know the acting out that we see on that video I just think it's. You know another that's. The. Metrics okay thank you I appreciate Chuck. Very much you know when you watch it it almost reminds me of of law and order. Episode, because it's I mean it's. So similar to one particular episode where the guy, is in the boxes they call it, and he's, hitting himself in the, face and he's he's saying wish I would die I wish it would, kill me and it's all you know until psychiatrist actually beat. With. Him and debunked this stuff there's, a lot of people to believe it I can't believe that there's people that are actually and. I'm not talking about, his defense, public. Defender their jobs. Defend, him but. I can't believe there's other. People not, only here in south, Florida but around the country that are defending this piece of crap How can you possibly do that how can you possibly Say anything, positive about nNcholas cruise I don't understand. But then again I don't. Understand some other mass shootings we've, had like that church I forgot what, city was in and that's a shame, that I forgot but also in? The church in Texas And the, sandy hook shooting just to name a. Few there's at least one. Person in each one of those, that have something in common you know, what it is they forgave the shooter The most prevalent and I remember is the sandy hook shooting because I think sandy hook shooting was the first shoot and even. Though we've there's been a lot of shootings but that was the, first one in this rash of shootings that have taken it, to another level because kids little, kids were shot and killed one of the parents stood up in a. Courtroom asked to speak and she said she looked at the the killer and said. I just want you to, know I forgive you I remember watching that I couldn't understand that and I'll, probably never will understand it but, it just wow And. The unfortunate part with this whole situation as I thank you and I both go. The dishes dot over it's certainly not gonna end because there's so many things that. We're not prepared for There's a new study came out. Today says many schools in the United States are not even fully prepared for disasters The CDC found less than two thirds. Of school districts have plans in place to handle an influenza outbreak or pandemic or another type of infectious disease outbreak they sing overall roughly four. And a five school districts have plans for helping students and staff with special needs during any kind of emergency situation. Nearly three and four school. Districts have reunification procedures to reconnect students with their families when they're separated during, an emergency we saw that with MSG so how safe our. Schools in south Florida since this happened on, February fourteenth and the clear answer is the truthful answer is not much Because they're protecting Marjory stoneman Douglas high school Or what they call. Protection it's been six months since the, shooting the schools are opening on the. Fifteenth which was just about a week away Palm, Beach opens Monday Broward opens on the fifteenth and nothing has really been put, into place except for a few miners, ex like one entrance But here's the thing who's, going to be at that. One inference I haven't heard that yet if you're gonna have a volunteer if you're. Going to have a teacher's aid or whatever it is that person is not armed that's a tremendous problem and. The other hand if there's one entrance. And you have to say this is, the funniest thing one of the things. I read last night is that everybody that's in, the school that's not a student has to wear a badge to identify themselves, as a visitor You go into. Any hospital here in south Florida they do the same thing you you go in. You check in with security they give you a thing to where nobody checks it So what's the point of wearing these badges if nobody. Checks it now I will tell you that vocal regional hospital does something very good and very different than these, other hospitals and their daily visitor pass pass passers change color every day. So somebody could see you from down the hallway and if you're wearing. A green pass and it's. Red day they know, you don't belong there or, you didn't have the right past so that's a flag Schools Purdue that and that would, be more of a deterrent to some people but there's always going to. Be the person that NNcholas cruise it's not gonna matter if, there's one entrance one inference in one entrance out how could, it be one in one inch out if there's several different, buildings I'm talking about Marjory stoneman Douglas in particular I think that. The Palm Beach county school district saw, what happened, in Broward County and then fortified their schools in Palm Beach county better than, Broward County schools and yet Robert Runcie the superintendent says well we'll we're prepared, everything there's all kinds of changes in place You can't let you don't have to lock the doors from the outside their. Automatically lock well here's a problem what, if, a shoot against him. And gets into a classroom doors locked I mean this is just mind blowing that we were not starting school with any. Kind of metal detectors? Were not starting school with any kind of hand Wanding we're not starting school with any. Kind of clear backpacks and to me, those are the most important things what do you think eight seven seven eight fifty eighty five eighty five eight seven seven eight fifty eighty five. And if you have kids in school I'd love to talk to you to know how. You, feel as a. Parent sending your kids back to school for the new fall summit, semester Because if? I were a parent I'm still be very uncomfortable I would still be very unsure because. It just doesn't make sense that after, such a tragic situation we did not make major drastic changes to prevent something like this from ever happening again but then on the other hand This is my right brain talking to my, left brain is is you're anything that we can actually do security wise to prevent something. Like this from ever happening again And the unfortunate answer is is I don't think so I think if somebody wants to get in with a gun, with a high power weapon or whatever the situation is they. Will somehow, get, in because a lot of these weapons I mean again you take a Glock with a fifteen fifteen, shot magazine that that can do a. Lot of damage especially if you know what you're doing The same way these rifles like a are can fold up. If you, wanna, be really crazy you can put them down your pants and walk in and nobody's gonna know you, have it because you can't see it I think about that for a minute These are the things that a talk show host shouldn't be thinking about law. Enforcement should be thinking about this crap Eight seven seven eight. Fifty eighty five eighty five bark and Pompilio how are you today Trade-off, thank you so. What do you think New theory. For a little friend there Put him in life in prison Solitary confinement, for maybe five minutes a day Why put them in solitary though Belcher? Could find why why do that why, not put him in general. Population maybe somebody to kill him it was. Saved taxpayers a lot of, money I.

"Dying show on the westwood one radio network how's this were irony we have a schoolteacher at marjory stoneman douglas high school sean sean simpson a pro gun control science teacher was arrested for reportedly leaving his loaded gun in a public restroom a homeless man allegedly got his hands on the weapon before simpson remember he left behind this gordon to the blaze law enforcement said the homeless man was reportedly drunk discharged the gun wants no one was hurt simpson told officers that he'd set down as glock nine millimeter in a restroom stall and forgot it when he left when he returned he heard a single gunshot simpson reportedly told officers that he reentered the public restroom and discovered the homeless man holding the weapon simpson said that he grabbed the gun from the homeless man's hands so what the police do that's a good question the police arrested the homeless man and charged him with one count of firing a weapon in a public in and one count of trespassing then police arrested simpson with failing to safely store firearm which is the second degree misdemeanor he could face up to sixty days in jail if convicted he was released after posting a two hundred fifty dollars cash bond according to the arrest report there was a reasonable likelihood that the firearm could have ended up in the hands of a child or the discharge of the firearm could've wounded another person or child simpson wasn't marjorie stone douglas high school on february fourteenth during the mass killing w p l g reports is simpson remains employed the school despite the arrest and of course he was a big gun gun control advocate and left his gun in the bathroom i guess he doesn't have gun control over his own gun but he wants he wants to government have gun control of yours and therein lies the problem folks good grief the irony is unbelievable oh back to the assad thing we told you the theresa may she's getting angry about this britain is today on the brink of war with syria as theresa may pave the way for imminent military action against bashar al assad are as john fog carry we'll i'll saw they prime minister suggested the west now has strong proof that assad was responsible for the.

"Very very upset the reason they are upset now is because one of the security measures that's being taken that's being taken into consideration now being implemented at parkland the parkland school at marjory stoneman douglas high school is clear backpacks for the kids and the kids are very very upset about this so there are all tweeting out all of this stuff about why the clear backpacks are so terrible and there are certain irony to a lot of the gun control students suggesting the rights are being taken away because they have to carry around clear backpacks lauren hogwarts david's brother and also goes to the high school she said my new backpack is almost as transparent as the nra's agenda i feel so safe now as much as i appreciate the effort we as a country need to focus on the real issue instead of turning our schools into prisons hashtag clear backpacks hashtag march for our lives so one quick note here why is it that my rights have to be taken away you're essentially turning my entire gun safe into a clear backpack and then cleaning it out because something bad happened that has nothing to do with me or my gun ownership sarah chadwick is another student over there tomorrow we will have to go through secure check points and be given clear backpacks my school is starting to feel like a prison well your school a few moments ago was a shooting gallery for an evil human being so it seems to me that if you are suggesting that hundreds of millions of americans deprived of their firearms this is a better solution i don't think it's a great solution by any stretch of the imagination but the outsized outrage about having to carry around a cleaner backpack you don't have a right to a backpack that is nontransparent in school so i think this is a great idea by the way now so i think there's going to do anything no so i think this is moral panic and overblown.

"The morning through seven o'clock tonight monday through friday right here on kfi well there were hundreds of thousands of people that took to the streets of dc and other cities across the country from march for our lives rallies over the weekend i don't know if you saw any of the the speeches by the kids but i thought they were really really well done out one of the girls who spoke she was from parkland from the marjory stoneman douglas high school there and she threw up on the stage and voice was still shaking when she was able to regain her composure and lead the crowd in a round of happy birthday in honor of one of the kids who was killed who would have turned eighteen on that day i didn't see that but i read that and just reading that gave me chills there was the girl who had the shaved head who's been one of the more visible figures that has come out of marjory stoneman douglas high in the shooting happened there she's the girl who is all about you know i'm bisexual i'm cuban i am into so many different things sewing crochet anything keep my hands move in but all of that changed my life changed everything that i was used to describe myself changed when that shooter took all those lives at her school and she had one of the more moving speeches there on saturday when she got up on stage read the list of of the people who were killed in parkland and then just did there silently and she wanted six minutes and twenty seconds to elapse that was how long it took for them all to hide in their classrooms when the shots i rang out and for the shots to have stopped and she wanted to drive home how long that is you know we we think about it in terms of an earthquake in california when we're in an earthquake it feels like it's an eternity right and it's like twenty five seconds that's the point that she was trying to make the perspective she was trying to share i am heartened by this i having read a lot of comments from these kids.
