"We don't see a lot of sky writing these days. An airplane leaving a trail of smoke in the sky to draw letters and spell out words. It's usually a simple message when we see it usually for advertising or marriage proposal. There's some dispute over the history of skyrocketing but you'll be pretty close to say it started around nineteen twenty with Brits and Americans to this day still arguing over. Who was I give or take five years in the skies over Sydney Australia where the government has declared a human bio security emergency over the weekend? People saw a simple message written in smoke in mixed case the still unidentified violet had spelled out the words wash hands. That was Australia in the skies over Austria. Meanwhile pilot's flight paths spelled out. The words stay home. A survey last week found that eighty five percent was are washing our hands more than we did before. This new corona virus and sixty one percent of us were practising social distancing and that was a week ago before things got even worse and there's been an avalanche of virus related news ever since Italy has now seen over twenty five hundred deaths. Italy lost another four hundred. Seventy five people yesterday the most any place even China has lost in a single day the U. as following in Italy's footsteps instead of Asia's and because the US is bigger than Italy our death tolls will be much higher while in China. They have just celebrated their first day with no new local cases. As this report is recorded. There are now well over two hundred twenty three thousand cases worldwide and will over. Nine thousand people have died. Mexico and Russia have just announced their first death rum cove in nineteen. There are more than nine thousand cases now in the US and at least one hundred fifty. Five people have died here. Nearly six thousand people have in Washington state thousands or infected in New York as testing increased. The number of cases in the US shot above nine thousand Missouri. Pennsylvania Connecticut and Michigan have now recorded their first cove in nineteen deaths. More than fifteen have died in California. Where eight million people in nine counties have been told shelter in place? A quarter of that state's population is now hunkered down now. At least two members of Congress have it forcing other lawmakers into self quarantine. Both Utah's Ben. Mcadams and Florida's Mario Diaz Balart have tested positive. The Florida congressman is the brother of NBC News Anchor. Jose Diaz Balart a Georgia state. Senator has tested positive now. The entire Georgia state legislature is under self quarantine our institutions of power and money are beginning to shut down the New York. Stock Exchange trading floor will be closed next week after several traders tested positive. The Dow closed below twenty thousand yesterday for the first time in over three years over twelve. Thousand AIRLINE FLIGHTS HAVE BEEN CANCELED WORLDWIDE. Ford Chrysler and GM have shut down their plants for now. Ford says its retrofitting its factories to manufacture ventilators. Its wartime the IRS is backing off collecting overdue money and the census has suspended its field operations without recounting all the things that have been shut down in this country to slow the spread of Cova Nineteen Corona virus. Suffice it to say that life in this country has changed and that it will remain changed for a while. Institutions and businesses are closing like a trail of falling dominoes. The truth is despite all the guessing we don't know how long this disruption last after weeks is a public health crisis. The new corona virus became an official national emergency freeing up massive amounts of money and resources to try to contain the outbreak. Millions of Americans however have been forced to show up for work in order to keep getting a paycheck and those are mostly people in jobs. That don't pay much to begin with some go without pay because their employers have shut down while others work from home. Tens of thousands have seen their hours cut and tens of thousands have now been laid off in a country mostly without paid sick leave and devastating medical costs. Millions worry more about paying their bills than they do about the virus itself for others in some parts of the country. Life stubbornly hasn't changed at all Disneyland. Shut down but in parts of the Midwest and the south little has changed as many remain. Skeptical of a pandemic we will get to the economic and medical aspects of our changed lives but because it's crucial to our ability to handle what's coming. We need to examine how we got here and why things will get as bad as they will. The experts tell us that the severity of this crisis is directly linked to the speed and effectiveness of our response. They will also tell you. We have neither been fast nor effective this national emergency shutdowns and the upending of our lives is a serious as it is because our current federal government was unprepared and slapdash and less than honest in its initial response. It is little more prepared now in dealing with this crisis. The trump White House has broken every rule in the book specifically a book that was written after the two thousand one anthrax scare about how to communicate with the public in a crisis. Like this one the cover of that book that set of guidelines couldn't be more clear. Be I be right. Be Credible it says on the cover. We haven't totally under control. Trump said on January twenty second twenty two equally off. Kilter remarks later he'd moved onto. It's something that nobody expected. As trump's remarks contradicted those of the doctors scientists the government lost even more of the Public. Trust the crisis had become a pandemic of incompetence clear messaging from our leadership in this crisis was and is just as important as the testing. And we weren't getting either. It was the president's son-in-law who put together trump's clumsy and confusing Oval Office address to.

"One of the smartest voices. Mario Diaz Balart from Florida one of the one of the guys who has been in the trenches on this issue. He is put together over the years various, interlocking pieces of legislation. So for example, it there. There's there's secure border funding that then triggers and moves into guest worker that triggers then moves into H one B. So it takes care. It moves through an anon- shocking overwhelming way, and it moves through and it has that level of accountability. That you've raised as an issue. And I think that that ultimately going to be are gonna be I think that. They'll be that the the big issues facing immigration, including the twelve million. I probably eleven million, but 'cause people are actually going to Mexico not coming this way. But do you think that that will be that these issues can be resolved? I think they can be resolved. I mean, look we've we've talked about Donald Trump a little bit in that. You know, he's got he's a controversial. He insists that we talk about. There you go. You know, he's he's a he's a controversial figure who in some ways creates. Opposition just by him being four something. And so I ran into this on the ways and means committee where I went to some of the Democrats on the committee and said, can we can we worked together with you on tax reform because a bipartisan deal would have been better based on this whole argument that making for the past couple of minutes, and they said, Peter, look if Donald Trump is for this Bill, I've got to be against it. That's that's my politics. So we're in this sort of we're in this environment that is that is a Trump presidency that I would argue makes it particularly challenging, but be that as it may look at the deal that he was you know, that he that he put on the table in terms of the DACA students several months ago were last year where it was basically out see your three quarters of a million. And I'll raise you a million five and some of the Democrats on Capitol Hill was like we're this is me saying this. We can't. We can't let Donald Trump have a win on immigration. That would be. There was I. Offering twenty five billion for the wall in exchange for dealing with the DACA. The and the presence seemed interested in that and got pulled. I mean, here's the reality. Okay. And tell me where I'm wrong here. You have a very very. Vociferating base in that freedom caucus, and they have outsized influence over the caucus. It's what drove bainer out. It's what drove Ryan out, and it makes it very difficult for a I mean, and frankly for all of his chest, thumping, Trump is very sensitive to that base. And so when the base gets and happy we saw this last you guys, and you were there for that vote. You know, you guys were prepared to to avoid a shutdown. He appeared to be willing to avoid a shutdown, and then there was a shutdown. Right. Why? Because the folks on the right beat their breasts breasts. The the the folks on you know, in Bryant Hemant television beat their breasts and radio. Oh, so I mean, this is a problem. It is a problem. And it's and I it full pause knowledge it, and I'm not dismissing it it is now manifesting in some ways on the left with a very few group of people who are now defining. What what the what the left is? You know, the the freshman that have come in and they're not playing sort of the traditional game either. So you, and I celebrate as you have a speaker, for example on peach mint. The other day said I don't think this is the right path and and and getting beaten up by her some of her her own so she did for I commend. So I commend speaker Pelosi for for that. I commend her for. Making sure she stood up as Coequal branch when it came time to state of the union and so forth..

If you saw that press conference yesterday, I was looking forward to seeing the presser. Because he out Sarah Sanders is going to handle it why she decided to do it because you know, after thirty five day shutdown which moats playing the president. I didn't know why she was doing it. Then I realize this was much more serious. I realized that we're talking about taking very serious operation aggressive stance on Madero, the current leader illegitimate leader of Venezuela. And that's when I realized that something that definitely resonates with people Florida and with this country joining us, our Senator, Rick Scott, Senator Scott, welcome to the Brian Kilmeade show for the first time as Senator. I know Brian. It's great. It's great to be on. And I'm glad that the president is taken Venezuela seriously and that with him on Tuesday with Marco Rubio. And Mario Diaz Balart asked him to record is one Guido at the interim leader and met with them and talk to talk to him both on Friday about this. Thanks on oil. And I think it's great what he did today. We got to do everything we can put pressure on the door right now to step aside. I spoke to new president one Guido yesterday. And he's very appreciative. And I said just continue to reach out and make sure I know anything I can do to be helpful to make sure Madero steps aside. We get democracy and freedom back in Venezuela. Not only that get Russia. China and Cuba out. Would that be great? We need to let the people of Venezuela pick the leadership they want instead of a dictatorship, you know, supported by Russia and Cuba and in China. And so I'm glad that we're we've made the progress we've made but the best day will be when the drill steps aside. So the pressure needs to stay on. Absolutely. So you come in. There was a delay with your election. And then we get you finally get there. And then there's a shutdown after thirty five days, you're ready to go. We'll committees yarn. I'm on armed services this morning. I was out that mean with marines and the commerce omen security eighteen budget. We were I was a significant support of the military as governor of Florida. I turned in the navy get served in the army, and I want to make sure we have the strongest most effective most lethal military in the world. Are you convinced that the money's there to do that? Because these e part was getting the money. The hartland. Now, you gotta use it. Right. Well, it's governor you gotta get a return on all your dollars. You got to know why you're doing it. You gotta have a purpose for every dollar. So one thing I talked to him about the impact on June right now that got hit by a hurricane this year. Just like kindled it down in my state, and we've got to continue to rebuild these bases to make sure they can go. Their missions goal is you've got to be able to figure mission. And I want Americans to stay safe. And we have to have a strong military to do that. So the in the back of your mind, and you're going to keep an eye on what those seventeen people are going to be discussing over the next three weeks. I wasn't heartened to hear this from the Harris yesterday cut twelve. I'm not going to vote for a while under any circumstances, and I do support border security, and if we wanna talk about that, let's do that. And let's talk about what really accomplishes border security, so. Ingenuous you have border security is you've gotta have barriers you have to have technology at you have to have people have to do all those things for them. Sit there and say, oh, you know, a wall or sensor barriers immoral. That's wrong. If you look at if you look at this country, we want safety. I always said that the governor I have three jobs give people a job. Good education. Key people say we have to have border security. So I'm very disappointed with the Democrats are doing they're they're they're they're not focused on on borders. Off with this shutdown. Said oh, no wall. We need tournaments. Needs to be gone because she's not representing Americans thing is Senator skied. If anyone knows your story yourself made success story. No one would outworked you as a governor. And now, I imagine it Senate. I think you've got to set the pace as well. Just my hunch, if your resume means anything how disturbed or you this push to the left for Democrats where any country that has a billionaire. It's basically immoral and those who make over ten million dollars should be tax seventy percent member. The whole American dream doesn't matter where you from you have an opportunity to be successful. No, one handed you anything. Now, all of a sudden. Yeah. Right. That's why I grew up in public housing. I never met my dad, but I grew up in the country, go build businesses. I can be anything when people go build businesses. Guess what? People get jobs as governor. I was very focused on making sure my state was the best for jobs, we had at one point seven million jobs. So these people believe in socialism. Here's what here's the problem with socialism Venezuela. Okay. Where you're rich. Poor is struggling to get food water medicine for your child having a new child born in Venezuela, and you can't get the right medicine to keep them alive. That's what's going on every day. So these Democrats that are sitting here socialism. Down there. That's what it's like find out why they're all going to Columbia anyplace. They can get to where they can have prosperity, and they can take care of their families. Here is Howard Schultz similar story, yet democrat cut twenty three. I'm self made as he said, I I came from the projects and took advantage of the promise of the country. I'm living proof of the American dream and the expiration magnetism and the opportunities that were presented to me. I think there is a problem that she has identified. But I think the way she's going about it. Unfortunately, she's a little bit misinformed. I think you're both to hunt highly right yet, you believe different things, right? Well, right. You've gotta live the dream of this country. I want everybody always told everybody I want every child in Florida at the same chance. I had I want my grandkids have that same shot. Socialism does not give people a shot to live the dream. Socialism lived in you end up in despair for everybody. It's it's everybody's treated equal badly. And so I want people to have a shot at the dream. You do that by giving businesses the opportunity to prosper, lower taxes, less regulation. And the. We're milking pot. I've got two hundred and fifty languages spoken in my state, and guess what jobless rate that fifty percent faster than the rest of the country. Why is that we have better opportunity employed in many places? We we had a thirty five percent increase in her GP while I in eight years governor because we wanted businesses to succeed. That's it. Give people an opportunity don't pave their way just an opportunity. Senator Rick Scott. Thanks so much. Yeah. That's all Senator Scott look forward to talking to you a lot over the next six years. Brian. You got one eight six six eight seven six six nine Afghanistan. The war coming to an end. I'll give you.

"Story this morning to every citizen, call congress and tell them to finally after all of these decades secure our border, President Trump makes that prime time pitch for a southern border wall has the government shutdown is approaching the third week. Mark the president insisting Joe that there's a growing humanitarian antsy Curie crisis at the US Mexican border. Our team coverage starts now with reporter, Karen Travers and Trump pushing back on a key point that Democrats make about why they refused to give him funding for a wall in the US Mexico border. Some have suggested a barrier is immoral. Then why do wealthy politicians build walls, fences and gates around their homes? They don't build walls because they hate the people on the outside. But because they love the people on the inside the president said it's immoral for politicians to do nothing and not protect the American people. Karen Travers, ABC news, Washington. If you missed President Trump's Oval Office speech bought the border wall, they'll be left out in the cold. We're going to rebroadcast it in about a half.

"But most Americans do not believe that zero for boarding. What are you willing to accept in such a proposal, obviously, the number that the president has put out there that has been reported? That they put out. I haven't been in in those rooms I've had discussions that. You know, what the president and his team directly. Those numbers are are in that two and a half to three billion dollars. Besides the money taking the money aside. Security. Okay. But. Reforms starts with border security. I mean at some point, you know, if we go back to Reagan all the way up to two today, you have to secure your border eventually in order to have a legal immigration system that works so far the dreamers. Have snakes Democrats? They don't want to be part of this deal. But if it comes down to it anyway, would you be okay with that glowing legal status for the dreamers? You know at this at this point, it takes a while to get while funding done part of what Mario Diaz Balart who is considered to be more moderate on this this issue than perhaps a member of the freedom caucus. He even he says that we have to start with with looking at border security, and then we can look at legal status. And and now some some of the no, I don't think it's a no I just think that it's part of a process, you can't take one thing out and say will you give citizenship to this group of people without looking at the other parts comprehensive immigration reform. Let's talk about the workers chirp people who are not. Working right now. The New York Times talked to several workers, including one woman who works for the IRS. She doesn't live here. She lives in Wisconsin state, the president one I should add. And she said we're all kind of waiting to see how we go forward to we apply for unemployment. Do we start looking for part time jobs, and you're talking about just to put numbers on this forty two thousand employees in the coastguard forty one thousand federal law enforcement officers tens of thousands customs and border patrol agents. People who are trying to do exactly what you say needs to be done with the wall. They're not getting paid last week. You said that will this is effectively said, this is what you signed up for in a public in in that interview. What what I went on further say is listen, it's not lost on me. In terms of anybody that is caught up in this particular thing, I can tell you. I was in in the White House with the president and his team saying, how can we make sure that this shutdown has minimal impact on federal workers have minimal impact on those people on main street. And part of that may be to those essential employees that are having to show up is to make sure that we fund them to make sure that they don't have to miss a paycheck because some of those borders. Okay with that. I would be okay with that. This is something that I've recommended that we look at. So it's only those that are truly furloughed that are not working not showing up to work that you have to do it. Now, it's not to minimize the impact on them as well. But there are people out there if this was on I mean, they're not gonna to pay their mortgage. It is it is critically important that we look at that. It's one of the reasons why put in with the CEO to withhold my paycheck as well. I get that. And it's not lost on me. Congressman Mark meadows. Thank you for coming. Thank you. I really appreciate it. Thank you. The mother of an eight year old migrant boy who died in border patrol custody sent a message to the Trump administration. That's next. "Like. Let me tell you what I see here right now. Ladies and gentlemen, I see hand to hand combat politically and every one of these congressional districts and every one of these gubernatorial races in every one of these Senate races. And if you turned out and voted, and you got other people to vote, I couldn't be prouder of you. 'cause you've made a difference. I don't know what's going to happen in Florida. The reason I'm so focused on Florida right now is we have big numbers coming in. And it's going back and forth back and forth between the Santa's and Gillam it's going back and forth and back and forth between Rick Scott and Bill Nelson. Sixty five percent of the vote in. Forty nine point six the Santa's forty nine point two Gillam. Fifty point one. Rick Scott, forty nine point nine Bill Nelson. Bill Nelson has thirteen thousand vote lead over Bill Nelson. That is Rick Scott is a thirteen thousand vote lead over Bill Nelson. Rhonda Santa's has a. Thirty six thousand vote lead over Andrew Gillon. Now, we're still waiting for you know, the democrat counties to finish seventy five percent of Miami data's in. That's miami. Fifty percent of Broward. That's always interesting. Thirty seven percent of Palm Beach. So I don't know how much the panhandle is in. It's not all in. But you gotta wonder if there's enough there to counter these metropolitan areas, so descendants has a half a point lead over Gillam. And Rick Scott is a point two percent lead over. Overbill nelson. But what's interesting is the Democrats are not taking as many house seats as they thought. They would as best as I can tell out of Florida, and they're not taking many as they thought out of Virginia. In fact, I'm not getting any numbers yet from Texas. We're not getting any numbers yet from zuri. It's not like I'm kinda ball here in anything significant enough to tell you about Tennessee fourth. But I do think mister producer. We should go back to Indiana. And see what's cooking in Indiana. Given the can you pull it up? My my system froze still thirty five percent. What the hell's going on in Indiana? Okay. Where are we? Yeah. All right Braun has fifty six point four. Donnelly has thirty nine point six only thirty six percent in. So you got to wonder how much is done in Indianapolis still. But I'd rather be in Brown shoes. Right. So he's leading. Day. Brad still has a day Brad mentioning because he's he's he's one of us still has a slight lead in his race. And the Democrats thought they would take it, and they haven't at least not yet. So we're not getting a lot of big numbers in in a lot of other states. I would tell us a whole lot. So far, the Democrats still early picked up two seats in the house of representatives two seats. Now, they're going to pick up more than that. But you can limit. How many seats they're going to pick up? Okay. You can limit. How many seats they're going to pick up because we have a lot of big states out there that have not voted. Let's go over which ones right now. Arkansas at eight thirty you're done in about three minutes, but nine PM very very important. Arizona. Wyoming, colorado. Big race in New Mexico. Louisiana nebraska. Minnesota. Big Senate race, Wisconsin number of big races. New york. You got a you got a ton of races air, particularly in the house that are very important and the rest of South Dakota, the western half ten pm Nevada. Utah Montana, very important Iowa most of North Dakota. And then of course, between eleven pm and one AME of California. Those is at eleven PM you have Hawaii Alaska. And Washington state. In Washington state. Ninety three percent of the vote is in difference of ninety four ninety five thousand Rhonda Santa's with a point four percent lead in Florida. Another one of these tight Florida rates that about thirty four thirty five thousand votes. I hope all those big democratic counties are done are almost done because that can flip easily. That can flip easily. So we'll see. And one more. Let's see here. I'm just giving you what I know. This is what we know. It's pull that up bear with me folks as I get the raw numbers. And I have to refresh. That's about what we have there, Mr. producer. I don't see any. Nothing's really changed yet. Because we haven't had any new numbers lately. Let's look at some of these excuse me house races in Florida again. Many of them are just too close to call. Where they were supposed to take up. All right. Brian mast who they targeted? He wins in Florida. This is the gentleman the Iraqi war vet who lost both of his legs. You might recall. And he won his election there, and he had been targeted. I'm trying to find others. Well, they seem to be holding up. Pretty well. That doesn't mean we're not going to lose a few seats in Florida. We clearly will as I look at this whole thing. Honestly, if this world bomb, and it was his second year. They'd be touting this as a big deal. They'd be touting this big deal. So far, I'm not writing anything off they targeted. Mario Diaz Balart who was never gonna lose. He won. Let's see here. Well, one of the ones who they targeted with seventy seven percent of the vote in is Carlos Cabello. Carlos Cabello is behind by. Twenty five hundred votes with seventy seven percent of the vote in. In florida. So these are important races. Donna Shalala won her seat. Unfortunately, taking.

"Live on iheartradio affiliates. All across the state of Florida. We're gonna take a look at the panhandle in just a moment. Obviously in the aftermath of hurricane Michael. There were big questions as to how voting would take place up there, if they had everything together and ready to go, and and what turnout would look like and joining us on the hotline right now to discuss that and more we have USA today. Florida network political reporter, Anna, Anna, how are you? God God how good? Thank you so much for joining us. So real quick tell us a little bit about some of the reporting that you did on the panhandle leading up to election day. Sure. So I headed up to the panhandle five days before the election. Early voting going on, and you know around with its devastation. You know, there were empty hole. Everything was still. Businesses were closed or empty. There were still some outages cell phone cell phone for not working in some area. And there was a lot of people voting early who remained bare, but they're still were a lot of people and voters who lost their ballots during the storm. And so it was a very big concern or election officials to make sure that you know, that you'll actually could still be carried out, and we found that statewide they were lagging they were at the bottom of the state in terms of voter turn out and early early voter turnout with both absentee ballots, an imperfect building what have you heard about how things have gone today in the panhandle in terms of people turning out? And in terms of polling locations functioning as they. Normally would. Well, you know, you know, it's the central time over there. So Paul are closing affect now. So we don't have the latest numbers. Right. Seven PM or six PM morale around thirty PM. I got the number and. It looks like while the rest of the state is an overall voter turnout counties are seeing kind of like a hybrid between Mitcham and the general election turnout in August. And now that, you know, your general election search higher turnout, and they're not really following shred. They're matching the 2014 veteran overall turnout, but they're not really surpassing that. Yes that we have. I gotta jump in with Anna right now as the panhandle votes come in. We are looking at less than nine hundred votes, separating Andrew gillum and Rhonda Santa's right now at forty nine point four a piece right now. I mean, the Pinot votes are coming in right now. This is going to be. Wow. This is fascinating. Yeah. It's an outsider and let me ask you this. Was there anything else aside from the panhandle? The you were particularly focused on or you're going to keep a close eye on tonight as a result start to roll in. Sure. Yeah. I. Were that the MPA are gonna land if they're gonna lean democratic at the polls suggesting or are they you know, were they going basically and also to county, you know, tabolid Pinellas which went to Trump a twenty sixteen right now, it looks like they're flipping with not all the, you know, we're not all the reporting done. But so far it looks like and Nelson art doing pretty well at county which went by one percent in two thousand sixteen. So that will be an interesting one to look at USA today. Florida network political reporter, Anna Sabaot, joining us here on our Florida decides election twenty team coverage and a thank you so much for joining us. We appreciate it. Now. Thank you have fun. We have some breaking news now out of district twenty seven in south, Florida. The race has been called Donna Shalala has flipped that seat to the Democrats. Of course that seat. Is is currently held by congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. Who is retiring? The matchup was between Donna Shalala, the democrat and Maria Salazar the Republican Shalala had a slight lead in the real clear politics average leading up to today. The political report ahead as a lean democratic seat. Hillary Clinton won that district twenty points in two thousand sixteen. So this was one the Democrats should have taken here in these midterms, and they have so with about a little over sixty percent of the votes in Donna Shalala at fifty one point seven percent Maria Salazar at forty six percents, and we hope to have on congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen a little bit later on on the broadcast to get her thoughts on her seat. Now going to the Democrats. Some other seats have been called. Mario Diaz Balart winning big time. In in his race. He he it's already been called. He came in about sixty one point four percent of the votes defeating Mary Florez who had about thirty eight point six percent of the vote that's district twenty-five north central western Miami, Dade Collier Hendry. And and this was a race where it was pretty much lean Republican butts. There were some some thoughts out there that it might be a little bit closer. This is this is a pretty I mean, a really solid win for congressman Balart. I thought that race was going to be in fact, the the idea was is that she was going to get close now. And then the challenge in in twenty twenty and so that goes to show you that these races. Do get localized that. That's why Chaleo's able to win on one side of the county and ES Balart able to win on another part of the county. So the idea that there's a wave going through? Doesn't seem to have been happening especially as we're looking now at the full picture the eight fifteen now now the Republican the red wave starts to strike a across the state eight fifteen eastern time seven fifteen central time and taking a look at another district. Cumin Cuban a close eye on district eighteen to Saint Lucy, Martin northeast Palm Beach Palm Beach gardens the Brian masked. He's the incumbent Republican congressman there and Lauren. Bayer who is the democrat challenging him. This was a lean Republican seat and he has handily won that race. It's already been called for Brian mast with about fifty percent of the votes in. He's sitting at fifty four point four percent and Lauren. Bayer the democratic challenger at forty five point six percents another race that a lot of people were keeping a close eye on was the the Stephanie Murphy race that would be district seven. Here in the state of Florida Seminole northeastern orange part of Orlando winter springs, seventy Miller, the incumbent democrat, Mike Miller, the Republican challenger the polling and show. This is a is a pretty close race. Although it was it was the cook political report added likely democratic Hillary won by seven percentage points in twenty sixteen. Stephanie Murphy running away with that it has been called that was supposed to be a competitive race. Mike Miller is a good candidate. But that's that's heat has the demographics and that seat are changing quicker than the performance level. Have you seen anything on fifteen yet? I'm trying to see if I on the Spanish no district. Fifteen the latest numbers that we have here have Spanish at fifty two point eight percents and Kristen Carlson, the democrat at forty seven point two percent. But I don't have a number as to how how many precincts are covered with those results. Well, I'm just I'm so I am just transfixed right now by the gubernatorial race as it goes back and forth. Right now, we have we have Rick Scott with eighty seven percent of the votes in Rick Scott fifty point one percent and Nelson of forty nine point nine percent. There's about what does that that about ten thousand votes, separating the two I can't. I mean, this is this is I will say this the smart Republicans in the room said that this was the way it was going to happen. This is what they're polling showed. You know, we talked about it in the first hour that if if the Santa's was going to be when if Nelson was going Scott was going to win. It was going to be by thirty or forty thousand votes. That's literally the number. That's how smart these guys, you know, the guys that make the big money. That's how smart these guys are right now with the Santa's leading Gillam by thirty five thousand votes. That's exactly what an inside. That's also inside the margin right now. But we still have you know, there are still I'm looking at Miami Dade only seventy five percent of the vote is there Broward. I mean, I don't know what you're doing Broward. There's only thirty five percent of the vote in there. So that is going to be I would imagine he can pull a slew votes out of Broward County. Hillsborough county only twenty four percent of the votes in as well. So not a lot. There are a few counties in the panhandle where we don't have anything in obviously. So the the race for governor and the US Senate race neck and neck right now. Rhonda Santa's a forty nine point six percent, Andrew gillum at forty nine point two percent with ninety percent of the votes in so very very close races. Really? I it seems to me what we're seeing right now a lot of races which were supposed to be potentially pretty close going the way that they probably should have whether it's a race. Like, the the the Stephanie Murphy seat going heavily for her or the Brian master. Mario Diaz Balart seats going very heavily for them. So we're seeing things kind of shape up in in a little bit more. I would say of a conventional way. Well, and it's the disadvantage that we have. All of we get results at seven, and we get those from south Florida, and they are early voters and the and then then we get election day voters from the panhandle. And it goes it's like, it's a gradient, and it goes from deep blue to read, and then it balances out, you know, I'm looking right now. And it's an, you know, a state Senate seat that I've told you, you know, I'm keeping an eye on Dana young versus Santa Cruz fifty point zero one percent to forty nine point nine nine percent. In a battleground seat right now right now with eighty nine percent of the votes in is fifty fifty between Scott and Nelson only five thousand votes a little under five thousand votes, separate the two of them. We're gonna keep an eye on all the latest results in when we come back. We're going to talk to UCF political science professor and analysts Dr Aubrey Jewett. It will get his analysis of these early results here on Florida decides election twenty eight.

"This is her first time running which is. Vantage. It's a very competitive race like this one. But I there was an amazing report our friends of political have the other day about a debate that the two had that was in Spanish describing how Shlala was handling the debate having it translated to mealtime, and it did not seem like it was going well for her purposes it, yeah, I think that this is an example where almost if this any other ear, right? Maybe if this district were a little bit more Republican leaning, maybe if the environment was a little bit more Republican leaning, I think Salazar would be winning here. But I think at the end of the day if you look at the forecast, and what it's trying to tell us is that the district is probably just a little too democrat gleaning the years probably just a little too democratic and social Ayla will whim, but probably not because she's the strongest Candido point out one additional thing is the New York Times poll despite all the hammering that Sheila has faced about being a weekend actu-. Had her her as being a net positive that is favorability rating was on the positive side on the negative side. So maybe this is a little bit of people coming in and saying something about the district and the district voters. Maybe it's just that Salazar's particularly good candidate. Right. And so in some of these other districts states across the country, we've been discussing what are we going to see in terms of Latino turnout in Texas, Nevada, obviously Florida is a different animal with higher Cuban American population. What are you expecting to see on that front in a district like this? I think you know, there are three districts in the southern part of Florida that have a high Cuban American population ones, the twenty fifth one to twenty six to one to twenty seven and Republicans are going to succeed. It will be because they will need a high Cuban-American turn out. They will need a lower turnout from younger Cubans who tend to be more, democratically. And also, you know, it's not like this district doesn't have any other types of Latino Americans Hispanic Americans in. But the Democrats right now are struggling among these Cuban American voters who pulled the lever for Hillary Clinton two years ago. And right now seeing at least they're holding onto what I would call their ancestral republicanism, and if Democrats do fail these districts, it will be because the Cuban American vote came out and came out strongly for the Republicans, whether it be Salazar here Cabello and the twenty six or Mario Diaz Balart in the twenty fifth where I think that he is favourite still despite the fact that that district has also moved a little bit to let but it's more public leaving than either these two, and you mentioned Hillary Clinton. Of course, this is one of the few places where she's viewed by campaign strategist by Democrats is positive and she's been there to help Sheila in this campaign, which also extremely interesting the one place where Hillary Clinton can dare to venture in twenty eighteen. Well, it's it's also possibly good example this race of showing that not all name ID is the same in terms of its strength. So Donncha Leila's, very good name ID with Democrats nationally, maybe even Democrats across Florida, but certainly sows are has incredible name. I d by being on TV for folks who've been watching her there, very long time. So a right. And of course, is that only that sells on TV in south Florida, but she's on Spanish language television. And even in south Florida there only so many of those versus English language television. Where you will have you know, any number of channels? You know, you only have so many down in south Florida. And so she is very well known figure. No one other thing point out is just like the democratic gubernatorial contest in this state. This was a primary that was won with a plurality. It was not one with a majority of the vote and one wonders if Democrats do fact not win this race, whether or not they were hurt by the fact that there were a lot of candidates going up against you Layla. All right after the break. We'll talk about the AirAsia Senate race and governor's race that we've been watching very very closely along with president. I'd states that's up next..
