Got some thoughts on Notre-Dame joining a conference and why I'll tell you what's going to happen with the Irish coming up in just a few minutes. Let's head back to the phone lines though. Jim and Alabama Jim. Welcome to the show, Jim. Hey, thank you. Thanks for taking my call. Yeah, man. So my game is going to be Texas a and M versus the U Miami hurricane. Oh, you're talking about this season, you mean? Yes. That is an awesome football game. I think Mario Cristobal has been doing a phenomenal job recruiting. It's been unbelievable. I think so that's the same weekend as Penn State and auburn. And auburn is going to be lit up with Penn State coming down there. It's going to be great. It's going to define auburn season. It's going to define Penn State season. But I think people are sleeping on the Miami a and M game and thank you, Jim for the call. I appreciate it. Because I agree with you. Tyler Van Dyke getting all kinds of hype as an NFL prospect. Cristobal doing work on the recruiting trail right now. I think that a and M Miami game is so much bigger than it's getting credit for right now. I feel like it's going under the radar in terms of big non conference games we're talking about. We're talking about Oregon and Georgia and week one. Utah and Florida is really interesting. Notre-Dame, Ohio State. We're talking about all these bam a Texas, like all these huge non conference games. Miami at a and M, like if a and M loses at home to Miami. With a far better roster, Miami with the better quarterback, that to me, man, talk about signaling to the rest of the SEC, what's going on with aggies. Man, if they win and they beat Miami, they'll be favored in that game at home. If they beat Miami, they're setting themselves up for a run at a playoff spot. That is an extraordinarily interesting football game that not many people are talking about. Kevin and Alabama, Kevin, welcome to the show. What's up, man? Hey, I mean, I appreciate you taking the call. Yeah, dude. A little bit earlier. You were talking about the ACC falling apart and I believe RG correct, you said you would take Clemson and North Carolina and put them in the SEC. If I heard you right. No, I think the first targets are going to be for the SEC. The first targets are going to be North Carolina and Virginia tech for those two states. And I think the Big Ten is going to do the same thing. Well, in my opinion, I personally hope they don't do that as an SEC guy. I personally, if it was if it was my call, I think I'd be looking into the Miami of Florida state two teams in the ACC coming in the SEC because if you look at it right now, if you look at it right now, Clemson might have, but most recent success of the teams, and then of course, as far as locations go, you go with one of the Virginia Virginia schools, which is fine. But if you look at the projections and the way that the recruiting has changed, I personally think the teams that I grew up watching football in the 90s that were dominant like your Miami and Florida states are well on their way back to being those schools again. So ultimately, if it's a money thing, if you look at the way the in ideals and IO bills are going to change things, Miami's coming back, Florida state is coming back. I think Clemson is going to fall off. I don't think dad was going to be able to keep the success that he used to have for one, bring inventables is no longer there. That defense is going to take a hit anyway you look at it. He's not going to be able to recruit the same and I think Clint is going to fall off man and if you're looking to add in power to the conferences, I think Miami and Florida state are going to be the two teams that would make the biggest boom when that time comes. Thank you, Kevin. I appreciate that. And I think the answer to the question is, what are the priorities of the decision makers? That is what matters here. If the priorities of the decision makers are top 5 top ten potential programs that can win national championships, then it is Clemson Miami and Florida state at the top of the list. If it is recruiting territory, recruiting base, bigger markets, new territory than it is the state of North Carolina and the state of Virginia. I think they want both, but I think they want North Carolina and Virginia first. I think that is their priority. But that is the debate that is going on right now with decision makers. What is our priority? More your calls next. Brayden gallen for Paul finebaum here on ESPN radio.

"But it's one second, I get that Instagram accounts do that because the real algorithmically gets more people to look at it, but you can't, if you put if you put a real that's one second on your Instagram story, you repost it and you share it. No one can see it because it is appears after a second. I absolutely hate that. If you're going to make it a real, it's a static picture. At minimum, at minimum. Just make it a 15 second static picture. It'll make it one second so that it lasts a little bit when you share it with your Friends. You know what I'm saying? Okay. Anyway, 24/7 sports said this on Instagram, what a week for Mario Cristobal. He flips a kid from Clemson, something that Miami hasn't done since dabba Sweeney took over as the Clemson head coach. He flipped a kid sent from Georgia. So a kid committed to Georgia and then decided Miami instead, something Miami hasn't done since Kirby smart to go were probably something Miami hasn't done in a long time longer than that, I would think. He also landed a top prospect that IMG academy, a kid that usually ends up in the SEC. So recruiting wise, Mario Cristobal. Is doing outstanding and Miami now has the number 8 recruiting class in the country. Wow. Hey, I don't know a lot of people are talking about the new Oregon head coach is awesome. Now, the PAC 12 is crumbling and it looks like the pack falls going to dissolve entirely. But I don't know how the new organ coach is going to do, but I'm excited for the Mario Cristobal era in Miami. And I just hope they do well. I really want to see Miami, get back on the map and do really, really well.

"When I started thinking front office, I went all in front office, including the game's bright stars of today. It was something star Jayson Tatum. Jason, how are you? I'm doing good. How you doing? Behind the scenes stories, some coaches and executives. Things go well. It's like the union did great when things go poorly at the president Al CJ's father. And breakdowns from analysts and insiders doesn't seem Philly is in all that much of a rush. Listen to the world by wherever you get your podcast. Great to have you here and appreciate coach being with us, Dave is up next in Missouri, a holiday. Well, hi, Paul. Thanks for taking my call. Thank you. Yes. And I'm the guy in the red golf cart where the razorback sticker that's never golf cart that's never played a game of golf and his wife. But what I'm calling about is that you had with Keith and I where should I could pronounce his last name? Yes. What an inspiration that guy is. He I don't know, he just gave us both and not a new outlook on life, but just going with what we already believe. And my wife 47 years was a true inspiration to me, she had a stroke last summer, but she knows more about college football than anybody I know personally. Not you, of course, but people I know based. But what I was going to say is she nothing gets her more excited than a college football game. She'll be on the couch and she kept me Brown very good. But you ought to see her when there's a college football game on. I mean, it's just like the old days before she had the stroke. And I guess back to Keith, you just got to be thankful for what you have. And because any day it could change. Dave, thank you for saying that and you're right. You wake up every morning and you think what's going to happen today and sometimes it's great and sometimes it is altering, but I appreciate you saying that Keith is no Keith for most of my career and he really is one of the absolute best and thank you for sharing the story about your wife and we were sure comfort and only the best and you take care of yourself. Thank you so much. Jack is up next in Tennessee, hello Jack. Hello, Paul. Good afternoon. Hi, my friend. I just want to tell you what an inspiration you are. You know, the legend where I done about that, but I don't even want to address that. You are such a good human being, my friend. You inspire people to the max. You have helped people in desperate situations. You are a lot at the end of the tunnel, my friend. And when you go away to the big place, let me tell you, you're going to be proud of your life that you've lived because you are a good human being you are a good person. And I love you to death down here in Tennessee. And I just want to encourage you to keep going, keep fighting the thought and I guess keep letting them naysayers and horrible people just keep letting them speak. I love you, Paul. Thank you so much. Jack, you be well. And thanks so much for your phone call. Bob is up next in New York. Hey, bob. Hey, Paul, how you doing? We are doing great. Thank you very much. All right. Well, I want to congratulate you on your recent award from university of Tennessee in a college of communications. That's awesome. Thank you. And thank you very much. What a great what a great award. Good for you. And secondly, I always have been intrigued by that sky writers club. Is there been any updates or any little books coming out on that or anything like that? I find it fascinating and you're having award winning writer on it is your last guest today. So here we're talking about the group that used to go around the SEC before we got to media days. Yes sir. Yeah, in fact, in fact, the person that was working on that was a good friend of mine, buddy Martin, who's a writer in editor down in the Gainesville area. And I just heard from him a minute ago about the other guy. We're having on here. Hal reigns. And I'll have to ask buddy where he is, because nobody has been doing a lot of work on that project, looking into and thank you for the call, bob. What we're talking about here is that before SEC media days became the hullabaloo that it is, I almost called it a circus. You had a group of writers and broadcasters who got on a plane, a crop duster and flew around to every SEC campus and spent time there. Visiting with the coaches, drinking with the bear, finding out who the new players were. That's where we first heard about Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson. And that ended in the mid I think it was the mid 80s when the media day started. And by the way, the media days really was not a big deal when it first started. Now it's akin to a Super Bowl. But I'll get buddy on one day when things quiet down and talk about what he has discovered. Because I think he was on some of those tours. Let's continue with more phone calls. And talk to Ben in Conway Arkansas. Hey, Ben. Greetings and kudos, professor Winston, Bartholomew, firebomb. I'm so glad that somebody is feeling important maybe my proper title. Absolutely, sir. Paul, I just wanted to talk about Arkansas, razorback, athletics,.

"It does not matter what they've been through and year after year after year he consistently turns out before we get to our guests, so you're suggesting if I understand correctly that Nick Saban should run for president of the United States, right? Exactly. Because our nation needs some kind of turning around and someone said, well, you know, if you're safe and you can get your Nick Saban is younger than the two gentlemen who ran for president the last time, so I think that would be positive. Hey, thank you very much. Kitty for C let me welcome the new coach of the university of Miami who used to work for Nick Saban and Tuscaloosa. Coach Chris of how are you? Thanks so much for making time. Paul, thanks for having me doing great. I appreciate you always and everything is about a 100 mph right now, but enjoying it, getting after it. I hate to bring you into politics. We just had a call or suggesting Nick Saban run for president of the United States. Would you run with him as his vice president? Absolutely not. I'm not going to do that. But I would love to go to one of his campaign parties. I've said it'd be very interesting. It would be. Anyway, all kidding aside, we do want to talk to you about your move, certainly got a lot of attention, and I know I can only imagine you've done this before. And the first couple of weeks are always crazy and you have managed to pick a long distance to travel. Have to move from all the way up to Oregon to Miami. There may be there may be a longer trip in this country within the continental United States. I'm not sure that I'm not sure where it is though. Yes. Maybe Alaska from Miami or maybe Americans of all, but no, honestly, Paul was the most difficult decision I've ever had to make. It was grueling. It was very suddenly put on it on our family. And it was difficult, but at the same time, a tremendous blessing, The X Factor being more than it just being home, but this is what we're actually played. I mean, I wore this helmet. I wore this uniform. I have blood in this one, you know? And on top of that, we got to feel good about the fact that when we arrived at Oregon, Oregon was four and 8 and upon leaving, you're looking at a team that now is gone to three straight conference titles, one two of them won a rose bowl. I mean, three straight top ten picks. They're sitting on the best talent they've ever had there. So it's been left in a great place and the people there were awesome to us. We're super thankful and grateful, but all focuses on Miami and we know what Miami is when Miami does it right. So we're excited. I know there are many hard parts about leaving a job, but in talking to you over these last couple of years, I know what you were doing from a talent standpoint. Is it difficult to leave behind as many great players as you recruited for that program? It really is. It really, as you look at, again, it's by far by far the most talented team in the PAC 12. And in fact, the most talent they've ever had on the run its own talent. And talent, that has played and great human beings, great, great people. And it took a lot, it took a lot to recruit those classes and get them there because you know it's more difficult to get to. All the way out there. But again, sometimes you just got to realize, hey, you've done the very best for and by the people there. We certainly have so honestly they're going to do great. They're going to do great, the culture was left in a strong position. The guys are really well trained. They have a lot of experience. Even though, again, I have young kids who are picking up and leaving their friends at school. That's difficult. No friends or relationships made that people how good the administration was to me was absolutely agonizing. So but I think everyone's got to understand at the end of the day, this is where I actually play football. This is where I have 7 zippers on my body. 11 different many have from having played football here. So it's been a whirlwind of a month, but things are really rolling fast and I'm just fired up the onwards. And coaches, one thing to play there and to have given there, but I'm sure a lot has to tell us knowing that we're feeling that you can make this program great again and Miami has come close. We all know that. But give us your thoughts on being able to finish the job down there and making Miami a relevant program in the national college football picture again. Well, I think the biggest thing is making sure that all focuses on the work and that it's not about making a proclamation or tweeting about it or just slogans or whatnot. We have to get to work. In Miami is on Miami has shown that over the years that I think it might be the only place in a long time where I'm four different coaches, one national titles year over a couple of decades. And it's because the caliber and level of football played in this area and the caliber of football players at it attracts. It's just very different and if you look at the NFL and in the history of the NFL, it's not just high caliber players, it's high caliber NFL Hall of Fame players. So there's a lot that goes into this particular place. Regarding a special DNA, a special kind of work ethic, a special type of IoT mentality. And it's there's a lot there's a huge amount of momentum that swirling around this right now to get to that level because people have seen it. They're addicted to that type of football that brand down here. So we feel it and it's strong and we just we have to get to work. It's that simple. There's no time to play around and goof around and come up with slogans. We got to get to work. And coaching, I would assume it starts in recruiting, which is going on right now. As you are making the rounds and I'm sure you're doing it around the clock. What are you encountering when you're talking to young people? They're fired up. They've been they've been really hoping for a change like this. A groundswell of support, a direction where they can see clearly what is going to be in store, the type of off season regiment, the type of system that will be running. I think when they see all of a sudden, you know, Justin Herbert, a penny sewell. Now this year, cave on tip, we don't actually know so when they see that this blueprint is producing championships and getting guys wrapped, not only is draft picks with top ten picks that they're having fun that they're graduating at a high clip, getting their masters at home. When they see that this blueprint, which we all know if we worked over in Tuscaloosa, we all have a version of it, right? That's not kidding ourselves. That's a great blueprint. That the blueprint works and that it's going to be implemented here at the highest level because there is a full commitment from a resource and facility standpoint to do it as good or better than anyone else in the country. And that was a missing component for Miami. So it's on now and we're ready. Talking to coach Mario Cristobal, the new head coach at his Alma mater of the university of Miami, coach beyond what you're doing day to today..

"In coaching carousel and AD carousel, since our last podcast, Miami, succeeded in luring Mario Cristobal away from Oregon, and then usually you would think they would hire the AD first and then the coach, but this time it went the other way. Dan RADA COVID from Clemson is now Miami's AD, you know Miami, like nobody else. This just seems like a really significant week for a program that had an athletic department that has never been known for making a big splash like this and obviously the football program which has been struggling for almost two decades. It is, you know, I feel like some of this has to do with knowing Mario Cristobal for a long time. I think for people who looked at it and said, all right, he's built this, and he's got Phil knight, and he's one rose bowls and Miami's a mess. I don't think you really get how Mario Cristobal feels about South Florida or Miami. I think that was a big piece of it. But I honestly think he was pragmatic enough to know if they are not really committed to giving the program a real chance, because he had asked for a bunch of stuff at or again and they had been all in. And I know he really respected his bosses and the people that he worked with there. So it wasn't going to be an easy decision, but ultimately when you see what Miami, what they're talking about financial resources and things have changed and as our colleague, many of our who covers Miami for the athletic has done a terrific job, all season, especially but in the last few weeks, kind of outlining, where does the money come from? What has changed? And I think those are significant factors that have made it different. And I think to some degree and crystal ball didn't tell me this specifically, but I think when you look at the landscape of the ACC right now, like Florida is rebuilding. FSU is rebuilding. So those are the things in the state. Clemson is coming off their worst year in a long time. They just lost their defensive coordinator. There's a decent chance they're going to lose their offensive coordinator. They're AD is gone. Those are all significant hits to the one program in the ACC that has been elite in recent years. So I think he knows, hey, there's one thing I know I can do better than anybody. And that's recruit. And there's one thing I know better than anyone, and that's the landscape of South Florida. I'm going to bet on myself. And it's going to get really interesting because I would say what's different about this higher compared to any other higher Miami's made since they last won a national title as you have a guy who is a recruiting maniac. And he knows the landscape and he was a big part of the next getting a pipeline into South Florida with all those great receivers. I'm not saying that pipeline is going to dry up, but I just think that if you are in Miami fan, this is the most excited you have been probably since the penalty Terry Porter penalty dropped in the Fiesta ball. Until the moment right up until that flag came out basically. Do you think I was under I was operating for most of the season? I mean, it became evident that they had that they weren't going to support many Diaz, I don't know, pretty early on in the season that there might be a change. And Christopher's name would get mentioned and I would think he's not gonna leave Oregon. You know, especially not for that dysfunctional what has generally been a dysfunctional place. I started to feel differently when after they lost got killed by Utah. I got knocked out of the playoff. And you know, you just start I wonder how differently this would have played out if they had actually gone to the playoff. If they had actually had the kind of season that people thought they might certainly after they beat Ohio State. It's hard to say, honestly. I go to the same place where if Oklahoma had one bedlam this year, Matt Campbell's probably the head coach at USC more likely than Lincoln Riley is at this. For all the Iowa state fans who have been tweeting me angry that I suggested in a column that it's surprising he's still at Iowa state. Let the record be shown that Bruce just said, say it again. No, I think if Lincoln Riley team wins instead of loses, I don't think he and there are going to be in the big 12 title game with a real chance to make the playoff. I don't think Lincoln Riley can make that move to USC. I don't know that for a fact, but I know USC really liked Matt Campbell. I'm not sure a 100% of Matt Campbell gets a chance to meet with him. He's going to want to go or not. I know this. I mean, I know they realize he's a really good coach. And so I think that was possible. That's very possible. A lot of fork in the road moments are sliding doors moments with this that we might look back at ten years from now. What if Oklahoma had won bedlam? What if, Cincinnati, instead of being 12 and O going into that conference championship game was 11 and one and Notre-Dame knew they could go out and get Luke fickle. Just a lot of and then, of course, like I said with Oregon, but the moment I figured this was probably going to happen was after the game that used to be called the Civil War, he told the media he was flying back to Florida that day. Because his mom is not doing well. And okay, well, it's always been a little bit odd that a guy from South Florida's family still in South Florida is all 3000 miles in the other direction. And if that's the case, I'm not saying that's the only reason he did or where that ranked on the reasons, but maybe that was a moment of like gosh. I want to be back by my family. Yeah. Again, I think there was just so many factors that I think made it very compelling for him. And this is the time and look, this is a big move. So I'm going to ask you this. 5 years from now, as Mario Cristobal got in my name in the playoff. I'm not saying that's Miami won the ACC. They haven't won it. Tell me, you know how he can recruit. You know what the landscape is? I know how you can recruit. I think he will dominate and recruiting there, but I don't know how you could come away from his four years at Oregon and be like, yes, he's definitely a coach that'll take a program to the playoff. I mean, they still, you know, at the end of the day, I think he recruited better than he coached very bizarre why he was so loyal to Anthony Brown. Dan Rubenstein of the solvable, huge organ fan. I thought he was a little too harsh, but I understand. You can be bitter when a coach leaves, but I mean he may it seem like good riddance too many watching too many games where they made the same mistakes or losing to a three and 9 Stanford team. So I'm not going to make that. I think they'll do very well. I think they'll be allowed. 5 years? Yes. 39. Okay. What's up? What are you going with? I will say 53%. Okay, so it's better than a coin flip that they get..

"It's a fantastic question because we live in a microwaveable society and there's nothing that gets the heat hotter right now than being in this conference, especially in that division. Especially when you have Nick Saban in that neighborhood, you've got Brian Harrison that shows up they can put up some fight link kiff and second around Oxford. I mean, held the leech elites is doing great job in starkville and Jimbo's building something good. And Sam Pittman, I mean, a guy out I just went through the whole SEC west. It's not going to be easy, but I don't think LSU has a choice at this point. I think what Scott Woodward he's not going to be one that's going to say, well, listen, I got to pull the plug early on this. I think Woodward went big and he's going to realize that Brian Kelly probably went to Scott Woodward and said, if I'm taking this thing over, we are just knocking down all the walls. We're keeping the studs on this building, but we are completely rebuilding it. I don't think unless you fans want to hear that. I don't think LSU fans are going to be happy for two years, but you're not trying to win a national championship in 2022. You're trying to win multiple national championships by 2024, 25, 26. And sooner or later, Nick Saban is not going to be coaching at it in Alabama. I'm not sure when that may be. Maybe he gets bored. Hopefully for everybody else involved in college football, but I don't see that ending anytime soon, but they better be patient right now because the last thing you want to do is do what a lot of these programs like Tennessee like Texas and like others have had to do is just completely change coaches. Let's get one more phone call in here before break Connor is in South Carolina. What's up, Connor? Hey, how are you doing, Peter? Doing great, Connor. Hey, I just wanted to get your opinion on. Who's going to be in the next coach at Oregon? I've heard stuff about lame kissing. Dave aronda. I've even heard stuff about urban Meyer, so I just want to know where you think about that. Yeah, I'm kind of curious about that. I mean, it made sense that Mario Cristobal was going to leave and head back down to Miami, right? I mean, I don't think that that was necessarily shock guys want to go back to where they played. So the name that I kind of hearing is for there to be kind of this reuniting of chip Kelly straight up north. He's coaching over at UCLA. We saw him beat Ellis earlier this season. He's had some success, but if I'm looking for a guy that understands how to recruit there who is still committed to the college football game, who you're going to find better at that point than chip Kelly, who knows that and has that relationship already with Phil knight. That's the guy that I would have. For Aranda, I think he's happy in Waco for lane. I'm glad that he's sticking around. Our conference is better than he's sticking around here. And frankly, I'm glad Mario Cristobal took that job in Miami, because had he not, I think that would have been the next phone call that Miami would have made is to try our higher lane kiffin away. And now, again, the coach of carousels so funny because had lain gone to Miami if that indeed was in play. I think Jeff levy wouldn't be headed to Oklahoma where Brent Vince I think Jeff levy, the offensive coordinator for the rebels would have been promoted as a head coach over at old miss. But again, it's all Jimmy Sexton's world super agent and we are just living in it. More your phone calls coming up next. We will also talk to Josh payt. Always a great stuff that he has over on 24/7 sports. Renaissance season and biceps are upon us that next year in the qualifying bombshell. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast..

"Lincoln Riley went from Oklahoma, who's about to join the SEC coaching against Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher, who are the lane kiffin, Mike leach, Brian Kelly, the coach Arkansas really good. Great coaches, great recruits in the SEC. Instead now, Lincoln Riley's at USC, where there's like Utah has Kyle whittingham who is still in Utah. They're not going to get top recruits in Utah. Coaching against who's the guy at Oregon state. He's solid, but like, come on, come on. Lincoln Riley's gonna dominate the PAC 12. And an Oregon appears to have been unwilling to pay what it required to keep Mario Cristobal. They did not give Mario Cristobal an offer he could not refuse. And to me, that tells us, huh. Apparently Oregon is not serious about winning a national title. And that's a massive problem. The best hope for Oregon was to give Mario Cristobal a massive contract and try to whoo him and keep do that. And I grew up in the northwest. I grew up in the Portland area. I don't love Portland. If you're not from Portland, and you hear that I grew up in Portland and you're mad at me. Just remember, I didn't choose where I grew up. My parents tell us that and I chose to leave Oregon. I just leave Portland. Beautiful countryside. Oh my gosh. The city, not what I love. But all my Friends are in Oregon. And I love them, but they're so delusional when they talk about their football program. I have the luxury of looking at the entire college football landscape. I watch way more than one game a week. A lot of my friends at Oregon they watch just the Oregon game every week. I watch every game. I watch all the SEC games. I watch mostly SEC level football. Can I tell you what? Oregon is nowhere near the SEC. And they have no idea. They think they're high and mighty. They think they're all that. Okay, well, now you lost your top head coach. A guy who was fantastic. Good luck. Let's see how you do now. I think that the minute Mario Cristobal beat Ohio State..

"The news. They find out ha, they didn't even give Mario Cristobal a big offer. And also, and so I would love an $85 million contract offer. Like, absolutely. I'll take I'll quit my whole life. You offer me $85 million. I'm there at a heartbeat. You pay me that that's like what 8 $8.5 million a year. Pay me that for one year. I'm good. I disappear in the Woods you never see me again. I'd probably still make sports content. I just upload it really, really slow and be like days late. But here's the thing. If you want to make a splash in college football. What does a top coach go for? They're getting paid a $100 million. If you write wrong or indifferent and maybe you don't believe Mario Cristobal is worth a $100 million and that's fine. But the narrative that Oregon would have wanted out there is, hey, we offered Mario Cristobal a $100 million, and he didn't want it. Because then you send a message to the college football world. Hey, we are trying to win. We want a national title. Instead, Mario Cristobal is left and great for him, by the way. I think Miami is a program on the rise. Would you rather basically Mario crystal ask himself what I'd rather compete with Lincoln Riley and USC or Clemson and Davos 20 and Davos 20 by the way lost Brent venables his defensive coordinator and I think Florida is up for grabs, like Florida state is bad, university of Florida, the Gators are bad. They're both down. Miami could make a splash dominate recruiting and win a lot. And I think there's a lot of potential there at Miami. You're playing against Louisville and duke and North Carolina state and the ACC like absolutely hallelujah go there, go to the ACC dominate good for Mario crystal. He's getting the bag, getting paid a ton of money. My focus is on Oregon. I can not believe they are allowing their narrative to be that not only could they not keep Mario Cristobal, but they didn't even give him a top offer. Are you insane?.

"Lay a buck 20 at FanDuel sports book right now, the money line hovering right around a dollar 40. Total on this game 41 and there are a variety of ways where we can go with this game just want to kind of lay some things out real quickly and I'll throw the ball to you. Only two teams in the league so far this season about scored their opposition by a 140 plus points. The two teams will see on display tonight. The Patriots have won 6 trade. It's now the longest win streak in the league this season. There are point per game differential in that span, 24.7. It's actually the best any team has accomplished in a 6 game span since the Patriots way back in 2010. Meanwhile, buffalo, you're seeing a slight changing of the guard within the AFC east. They're now 9 O within the division since the start of last year. They were able to sweep the Patriots last season for the first time since 1999 and they've won their last 5 divisional games all by double digits, whether going to play a role, no doubt about it. And when you look at Bill Belichick and his career, I know it comes with a caveat that most of these games were with Tom Brady, 53, 27 and three against the spread catching points. 66% success rate. He's actually won 44 games out of the 82. He's caught points outright for a 54% win rate. Whether pat's offense bills offense bill's defense pass defense, I'll give you the floor. You give an NFL guy the floor. And he's going to tell you that Miami Manny deus officially fired. Done. Pulled off the road, game over. Oregon. Holding a team meeting in a few hours. So it looks like Mario Cristobal officially the next head coach of my American. Two interesting stuff there. Do we get be in a speculate? I mean, is there a chance that Phil knight sends his jet out to Boca Raton and tries to bring Willy tagger back in? Knowing he tried to do everything he could to keep Willie as their head coach before he bolted for Florida state a few years ago. God, would that be a bad hire? What's up with chip? You have to hire someone from the West Coast. Because I'm not a massive Mario Cristobal guy. He can recruit his butt off and he's organized and he's buttoned up and he's not the best X's in those guy. And even in saying that, he is far above Miami's current weight class, but Miami is starting to get serious about winning again. And so that was the cell, along with going back home, but this is now how many coaches in a row you've lost because they want to operate on the east coast. So you have to find somebody in this next hiring. If your organ is wanting to stay on the West Coast, you can't dabble. I don't think in the Midwest or the east coast. Nope, and you wonder how accomplished a resume your head coach has to have? Do you want to go in a younger direction? I thought it was interesting and I believe I sent you the tweet where you had someone from the oregonian speculating that they would make a call to chip Kelly to try and lure him back to Eugene. You never know if that's a leverage play, though, as I'm sure chip sees the amount of money that has crosstown rivals paid Lincoln Riley to try and get a few more dollars there, but I think it would be fascinating because chip to my knowledge left on pretty good terms when he bolted for Oregon for the NFL. I don't think there was a lot of acrimony there, but no doubt about it. A team like Oregon with deep pockets and all of that Nike money, I think you're nailed it when you talk about keeping a guy that wants to be on the West Coast and is committed to building a true power up there in the Pacific Northwest since recruiting is always going to be. The real key cog knowing you don't have a talent rich state right in your backyard. There's no doubt. Now, I think the job became slightly less appealing now that Lincoln Riley's at USC. You went from being one a west of Texas to one B and that discrepancies probably larger than we think if Lincoln Riley does it correct and it looks like he's going to. I mean, the talent he's already pulling in in the first three, four days is ridiculous. Okay. On to what people actually want to hear. The NFL rumor has the patron bills patriots and bills are playing tonight for first place in the division and potentially first place. In the AFC, which is massive, right only one team gets a get to buy. It's a weird game. When we kind of just phrase it that way, we saw some early money come in on New England at plus three. I did see a couple guys lay the two and a half that had a different mindset. So there's a little bit of a battle here on the side. In terms of the matchup, let's start with the Patriots offense. And I think that's when you're looking at it everyone is talked to the Patriots run game. That's been a huge part of their offensive identity and their success. The offensive lines finally healthy. And if you look over the 6 game win streak, New England's number one in EPA per play number one in EPA per pass. Third in EPA per rush. So it's not just the run game, but it does set some things up. It's just a really well prepared offense. It's a very balanced offense. They disguise things, formation, their efficient running, and passing through defenses can't cheat and focus on specific things. So most of the time, everything looks pretty similar pre snap. It just makes things difficult. Then you look at the bill's defense. And most people are going to be like, boy, they've played absolutely nobody, and that's true. Dead last schedule of offenses played for buffalo. And the best offense on the bill's schedule was a top ten offense in the colts in Indianapolis, crushed them in the trenches and just overpowered them in the run game. That's also very true. And then you look at buffalo style and you're like, okay, they played two high shell. So by design, mcdermot willing to give up more on the ground than through the air. It's a sound strategy. Roster wise, buffalo wants their defensive linemen more quick and fast than bulky and plotting. So it's kind of this twofold thing. On why they can be had on the ground and I know again the metrics don't necessarily depict that. It looks like a top 5 run defense and we've been kind of telling you that's not necessarily the case. But I'll be blunt here. Sean mcdermot and Leslie Frazier have to make an adjustment tonight. With the matchup in front of them, with the simple look at Mac Jones is passing grid. Substantially better when he's not throwing it deep. He's just better in these small windows so far. And then you look at 27 mph winds. In projected gusts well into the 40s as we break this down, you'd be out of your freaking mind to play too high shell here. You have to put more defenders in the box. And that's kind of what shocked me in the cold game. If you go back and actually dig into that where didn't you just bludgeons the bills, Jonathan Taylor only ran into an 8 man box on 3% of his carries? How there was an in game adjustment is just bizarre. And I understand philosophically, you want to be who you are. You don't really want to change from that. What you have to.

"That is a big if you kind of mentioned how light wazoo is in the trenches and that's the reason they're 98th in defense of one yard through ten weeks. They also lost their defensive wine coach. When you look at standard downs where wazoo has to defend the possibility of run or pass 54% of plays of great successful against them. The Oregon offensive line as I mentioned is just very stout, although we talked off air, there is one guy potentially down this week. But they're a top 5 offensive line in terms of line yards created. They've only allowed 10% of runs to get stuffed at or behind the line of scrim. That's the best rate in the country. The ducks are always playing in situations where run in pass are an option, which kind of makes Anthony Brown. And some of his numbers even more kind of laugh out loud. I was going to go I was going to go less of a liability. You took them much more correct. Yes. So basically, what ends up happening and likely what transpires in this matchup is organs going to be in a ton of second and medium. And third and short. Because organ doesn't surrender negative place. And again, wazo isn't big enough in the trenches. So metrically, you have a was your defense that's 78th and early down defense 79th on third and fourth down because they're not getting teams and uncomfortable situations. Opposing teams are living in short situations because yazoo stinks on early downs. Oregon's top 15 in both the EPA per rush and rushing success rates. So that is kind of the matchup to look for here, obviously. This is Washington state Super Bowl, right? Two weeks to repair. They're going to come out fiery. They're going to load the box. They're going to fly around for the first half. You do wonder if they eventually wear down and this is kind of a bigger than the game moment. There's a lot of turmoil that's gone on at Washington state. If they can somehow win this game and fight for a PAC 12 championship, it would mean the world to them obviously. But here's what's kind of crazy. The world to us too holding Utah tickets. Yes. Here's what's kind of nutty to me is again going back to like I don't really like a lot of teams in college football this year. I think Oregon stinks relative to where the college football committee has them ranked. I don't see value in Lang 14 at all. But my number makes it 15. That's how bad the PAC 12 is. That I think the leader is wildly overrated, not even a top ten football team. And still somehow, the number itself is short when they're playing in conference. Heading into the Arizona state game. Wazoo had been outscored on the season. They get the three early turnovers the first 11 minutes against ASU. They go on to win that game out. Give them credit. They're now after that game. A positive point differential on the season. But my number doesn't get me to where there's value in Washington state. But everything I am hearing, the text I received this morning, is that all signs point to wazoo being the side here. Would you agree or disagree with that? Oh, I a 100% agree. And I think there are a variety of reasons here. When you look at Oregon, the one thing that we have grown accustomed to and it's no fault of Mario Cristobal and the program in general, they play their best football in games that mean the most of them. They typically raise their level of play for the Ohio State of the world. We saw it on full display with their defense being fully engaged. We can say we want about Washington, but that's a big rivalry. And that was a team that played pissed off defensively. Washington having scoring 16 points was his misleading as you were going to find with 9 of those points coming directly from the defense. And what is Oregon have waiting in the wings arguably their biggest regular season game and the biggest obstacle for them getting to the college football playoff, a trip to Salt Lake City, a game that'll most likely be played under the lights at rice eccles stadium. So who can fault Oregon, even a game within the league, a team on paper that they should dominate if they don't come out and look like a well oiled machine from start to finish against a Washington state team who doesn't wow you with anything they do, but they've played with heart, they've played with intensity, and this is a team that very easily could have let it season get off the rails, especially after week one when you lose outright to Utah state as a 17 point favorite. Oh, it definitely feels like Washington state has come together internally. In terms of like, hey, the guys who are not here, they're not here anymore. You can either fold up or we can come together and rebuild the family and trust each other and get out there and play as hard as we can and they are flying around. That is one thing as soon as you put on some of these games. They're undersized. They're not overly talented, but they play really, really hard. And so I would expect a pretty game effort here with what's on the line for them. You beat Oregon? You head to the top of the pack 12 north. And so huge game for them, you could see them flying around early. Maybe that might be the angle rather than taking the 14 is looking first half plus 7 and a half if they are the side. You know what's interesting and I don't want to spend time on it or even really delve into it. The unit that I've really struggled with for Oregon. I think we know what they are offensively. It's been easy to figure out. Defensively, I'd be lying..

"By the way, Jim Harbaugh always struggles to beat Michigan state. It's always interesting and weird. Remember one time Michigan had the wind. They're punting the ball away and they messed up the punt. It got blocked or still whatever happened and it gave a Michigan state a touchdown. They lost that way. I like the final play of the game. So every year, Michigan has trouble with Michigan state, it should be fun. It should be interesting and I'm so pumped for that storyline. What's going to happen with Michigan Michigan state this year? I'm like, oh, can we please get them both 7 to go into that game? Now also this past weekend, LSU beat number 20, Florida, 49 to 42. Florida to four to two. Four to three, four interceptions between two different quarterbacks in this game. LSU led for most of the game like Florida, they were up 6 to nothing and then they couldn't score after that. Florida freshman quarterback Anthony Richardson played a decent amount this year, in this gaming it's LSU. He played the most he's played all year. In my opinion moving forward, Anthony Richardson should be the full time starting quarterback of Florida moving forward. And I bet a lot of angry Florida fans are calling for Dan Mullen's job, the afforded head coach. I would relax. I think you just gotta wait and let Florida has basically emery Jones who is not a very good quarterback. And they're basically waiting until Anthony Richardson can be the full time starting quarterback. He's a freshman, he's still developing, but once you figure out the quarterback situation, Florida is going to be just fine. And also, let's be honest, there's no, no matter who the coach is at Florida, they're not gonna dethrone Nick Saban and Alabama anytime soon. You got to let it happen naturally. Really what Florida needs to do is be patient. Stop calling for the coach's job. I don't know what coach can come into Florida. And beat Alabama quickly. I just don't like urban Meyers a pipe dream and nothing else even sounds feasible. So can we stop with the fire Dan Mullen thing? It's getting weird, and maybe Mario Cristobal comes from Oregon, but I don't know why he would leave organ. He's got a great thing. He's on top of the world. He commands that conference. So I don't know, man. Now, a weird note here is that LSU announced that they have fired their head coach.

"Minutes away from talking to four again. Head coach mario cristobal coming off the biggest win of his career even before he's able to celebrate. His name is linked to the southern cal job. I'm sure that's one topic. He would rather not talk about tonight. We will look now migrants. Who is always welcome to talk about any linked to any big time jobs griff or seemed like are we be talking to you for many. You're covering the dogs back under contract. Ajc doug nation. Paul thank you yeah. I read about that recently in some somewhere that you just read up to. I know you can't discuss the terms. But congratulations yeah. I guess the sitcoms going to have to wait. Now you're now. You're hitting close to home mike okay. Let's talk to the. Let's talk about this game this weekend. I don't know you probably were too busy listening to this program. But but south carolina fans have taken something away from two years ago and they think they can come in there and do it again i. I don't know many people that agree with that. So lay it all for us First of all. What's the quarterback situation on the dog side. Yeah i don't know kirby's kind of tricky you know last week you know everybody asks me cart you have carson beck was number two. He said yeah he's number two. What he didn't tell us was his debts and bennett was number. One in kirby kirby games a lot going to just depend on the shape of jt. Daniels i mean. Jt's the guy. Even those steps in bennett was was really remarkable. Titus school record with five touchdowns in the first half. I mean they really could escort one hundred points if they wanted to on. Uab last week it was. it was quite the route. Ap's coaching You know it's conference. Usa level coaching for all the kind words they were out scheme terribly There were three plays past plays that netted over two hundred ten yards. I mean that's shouldn't have. I mean fully once fool twice three times heck is forget it. It didn't matter but but if jt is healthy enough to be throwing the ball all way downfield and they feel like that strained. Oblique can't get reinjured. They go with them. But i just don't know if you take any sort of chance Put jt daniels. Because the one thing that south carolina can do well is get after it with that defensive line. That's the one thing they can do. Well and and one of the weaknesses for georgia's still remains the offensive line still somewhat suspect even with all those four and five stars and matt luke out there. Coaching them up They weren't really able to knock people off the ball in the game at like you would have expected from georgia team against clemson. We saw him kind of struggle. The first three quarters. So i i think if you're kirby smart why not be careful with. Jt daniels look at the sec. It's a long season paul. you gotta get. It's like talladega down there in alabama right. You've got to make it to the final lap to win the race. So why take any chances with your quarterback these not one hundred percent and you've got a very capable backup and a guy likes that's bennett. Who was ten of twelve for two hundred eighty eight yards and five touchdowns in any young guy and carson back that you want to get some work to so i think the game may dictate a little bit but also how does jt practice. And that's something we don't know to. You're essentially saying georgia doesn't need. Jt daniel to be south carolina. That's what i'm saying. Yes sir i. You can pick any other quarterback in the sec. Input behind centered. They'd be you got to score the win in the georgia defence. Pau i mean they really are remarkable. The front seven is i mean. These guys are unbelievable. I haven't seen a defensive front like this in a long time. Now they're suspect at the corners. It's way too early to to make projections about what will happen when they play alabama in the sec championship game. Different positions have to grow and mature but this defensive front is so dominant. It's such mismatch against the south carolina offensive line south carolina. They really don't have any kind of hope. Okay at least at least they can get mad at a few more people. A matt berry was earlier. Said something similar now. You said it and they can quit Coming after me. Let let me talk about just what. You're sensing from this georgia team overall. Because i was surprised by last week. I agree with you i. I didn't see much of the game. Because there's there's only so much of a rally you can. You can consume as someone trying to to watch your games but do you feel how or how much better do you feel or do you feel really good about this team. I have you felt really good about team all along the same. I mean it's it's you know it's the same. I mean probably a little better. I see how well stetson bennett performance as a backup you. So how much air he got under the ball. You know one of the problems with steps and bennett. Last year paul was. He couldn't throw the ball deep actively. And you know he's gone to school. He's been working out with jt daniels. He sees the way the deep ballesta to put some air under get those and he was incredibly successful so to me. One of the questions is you know. Who's your number two right. We we've seen alabama pull that card a few times against georgia. Do you have a good enough and capable enough backup if something were to happen and you know again. The sec's brutal is we're not talking about the acc. You know you'll play anybody. You're the big ten in the pack. We're not talking a big twelve. We're not talking about those leagues. We're talking about a league where we can week out. You've got nfl players coming out. I gotta look do is look at the draft numbers all these teams have. Nfl prospects. they can they can accu down. They can hurt. It's a battle every week. And and it's largely a war of attrition right. it's hard to predict what's going to happen in in december because we don't know who's going to survive the season for these teams. I mean my goodness look at all. The injuries georgia had last year by the time they played florida. They were misinformed defensive starters and then they get their quarterback knocked out with fourteen zero lead over florida and florida's suddenly they're all this revisionist histories come up this week. Like they were clear and above the best team. Last i'm kuwait. Everybody not remember what happened last year. Everybody got amnesia but talked about like florida. Like they were just ed shoulder. Come on you know. that'd be an interesting game down there and swamp. Well i want to get to the because a lot of confidence from from the gators. We're here we hear it You know the swamp all the things that really don't matter very much In terms of matchups. But how would you assess this game saturday afternoon. Well kind of one of those guys. That says i gotta see it to believe and dan mullen is oh intent against alabama so another some people out there. They're talking about. What a remarkable job. he's done. Turn the program around you know. Coach mullen told everyone they're coming off a great season at eight and four campaign. We talked about that from. Sec media days eight four now qualifies as a great season for florida. So maybe they'll have a great performance. Stay within three touchdowns but you know. They lost a key. Everybody wants to talk about molin and quarterbacks.

"What about david sean. Usc the opponent and last year he was twenty twenty he was six and four four and two so if things cool off a little bit down there within their he's still hot property. Said you jumped before you cool off. You don't wanna have a five hundred season. Try to get the job and they were coming off a loss and they picked up the win roughed up. Usc rick new heizo former ucla head coach. Now working for cbs. Cbs college football analyst and also coached at washington and colorado. He knows the pac twelve and in other words and rick kind enough to join us. Explain the timing of usc's decision to fire. Clay hilton makes no sense. I mean klay had Been hanging on what i call coaching purgatory for the seems like the last three or four years. I mean he was hanging on hanging on in miami but to do it and week. Two is a little bit questionable because now it puts if you really think dante williams is a good coach you put him in in kinda harm's way because if he does well the players just like they did for mario cristobal and oregon are going to be clamoring..

"You didn't take that knit in. Cover your backyard jet jay. I want to ask you this because this is like a broader question about like we forget because we're old already right who's old that these guys. Well he he's forty nine just turned forty. Yeah so i'm hanging on. The point is when you go back to peak harry. You're going back over ten years already. These kids were. They were babies at the time that are entering college now so once the reputation. Once you lose those scholarships and the reputation shifts they don't. They've heard stories about the old days but that's not their experience. That's one of the remarkable things about duke for example. the program. you come from in college basketball. Is dave maintained a certain level for so long with an insistence on unlike like standards right. But whatever you for your down but there's no like long period of time. Where duke is not competitive right. But but that's the reaction. I'm seeing it as c. Now like where people are looking around and going wait time out. We can't compete with the top programs. So what is that. That allows an institution like duke basketball for example to maintain that over time. I mean the easy answer. It one of the greatest coaches maybe. The greatest coast ever coached the damn game of basketball coach k. I mean obviously helps. I think the way. They've reinvented how they market. The program is also been something. That's been intriguing. I i don't know how. Usc has gone about that. But got better guy and better. Okay i guess. If dante williams is the interim head coach key What do people need to see from him. In order for him to be a guy moving forward because paul finebaum came on it was okay. I just want to caution. Everybody about the interim guy getting that position. Because sometimes you need that or interim hop ejei interim head. Coach is is w right. Some are successful. Some are not mario cristobal interim head coach. Yep he got the job and they rolling right now. He wanted hottest coaching candidates going. You know who else was interim head coach dabo sweeney. So i wouldn't understand what paul saying but you don't poo poo it just yet. You got a list. Let's just see what does before we start to say. Because one thing he does do well he's he recruits. He coaches the secondary. He does well. They're he's put a number of guys in the nfl. He's from the l. a. area. He's the first african american coach head football coach at usc. You know how happy usc alumnis. And i heard paul say. Don't listen to the alums. Happy the alums are that we are now going in a different direction. We're not holding on in rewatching and re washing and washing man. They jumping for joy. My phone my phone wouldn't stop ringing last night from just people that went there plate. They're like man. What do you think what you think we should do in. Because they're excited about there's real opportunity now to rebuild the program rebranding program where wash rinse repeat before we get out of here. Jay i want to ask you a question. Seeing what key is going through. Now his program is is there. No do you have some anxiety as as dookie right like as a guy so to speak as as as as like seeing what's gone on when a guy like szumowski which who identified of course as the number one driver of that level of dominance for that time in his last season where you're looking at future without coach k. How the institution handles that and what that means going for. What's your level of anxiety about that. If i think john john's shire who coach k. has announced to be the next head coach has done a really good job with no smith. Nolan smith helps at drastically drastically. A lot of players relate to nolan and with john. I think it's moving into the right direction. I wonder is that same patience right like coach back to back. Seventeen loss seasons like an eighty two eighty. Three men like cocaine never becomes coach. Kfi tom butters. The athletic director doesn't believe in him so also wonder about that. Like how long will hold on to coaches. That initially struggle right. Do they have that patient so allow them to flourish in a great ball..

Herbert has 3 TD runs, Oregon beats Wisconsin in Rose Bowl

"Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert ran for three touchdowns as the ducks nipped Wisconsin twenty eight twenty seven in the Rose Bowl game it was Herbert's thirty yard mad dash to the end zone midway through the fourth quarter that provided the winning score and high praise from his head coach Mario Cristobal the bridge in so many different ways and you see the you see like to see the army sea of decision making we don't see the leadership in the heart and in the end that was the biggest difference my opinion it's the ducks fourth rose bowl win in school history Wisconsin quarterback Jack cone threw a touchdown pass but there for turnovers proved too much for the badgers to overcome mark Myers Pasadena California

Ohio State Passes Its First Test of the Season by Beating Penn State

"For the first time this year Ohio state was truly tested looking like the game was getting out of hand Penn state scored fourteen points in just twenty five seconds to bring some tension to Columbus ultimately the Buckeyes remained unbeaten but for one of the only times all year Brian day saw how his team handled adversity that was the first time I've really felt well I mean here's a little bit Wisconsin game but that we were we were real right there and now we had a response back from against the wall so we did to win a game like that that was not clean shows the toughest that we have because you know you walk out of that game a good one a lot bigger than that Ohio State survived a test at home while organ failed there is on the road the ducks went to Tempe and got knocked out of the playoff picture after a thirty one twenty eight lost Arizona state and after the game Mario Cristobal says his team just wasn't at its best and in November that will prove costly throwing out our best fight we certainly never
