Telly reacted when it was all going down. What did he booted the ball? And he talked about that He's I'm reading from this from the Daily Mail. The Italian striker admits he felt he quote had to react and reveals. It hurt three times as much because his young daughter was watching on TV. He said I know that we're not supposed to give these people attention. But we can't just not underline the seriousness of what they're doing either Belly told us to Eleni television. He said if I don't react nothing will happen. You can call me an idiot. I don't mind that but if you call me a n that's it's not done by mistake. That's serious I stopped play because I thought that's it I'd had enough. I say punish those who were guilty and not the whole curva because that is the beauty of football. I never accused the whole city. Idea Verona. Just those few idiots who are responsible. It's unbelievable that here. We are because I remember the last time player booted ball into the stand in that manner. I can remember it was it was for. AC Mellon maybe eight or nine years ago and they were playing lower league team same uncertainly one of their black players was was subject to this abuse and to see it repeat itself is terrible can get out of this. Well there's one. Other guy that I wanted dimension here Verona's manager Ivan Djuric. Who basically instead of reacting the way that like you would hope the opposing manager would in a situation in like this and show some contrition instead? This is like Sadly it feels like this is the playbook that it nope didn't happen when they go straight to that And it's I don't know it. Just it just sheds this light this like sadly consistent light upon on the way these issues are handled in that league. Yes you're just waiting for someone like of note somebody of prominence to step forward and just like like the Italian government maybe well. Yeah Yeah because I saved this last week came up on my phone from the BBC. And I saved it Because then you this was going to happen again and I just thought look at the reaction to this versus the reaction to racism in Syria. To Italian footballers have being given one-match bans for drum roll. Please blasphemy during series matches. Salo's Francesco Imaginary paramore's Matteo scored Allah were shown on television making blasphemous remarks in separate incidents. There is a strict ban on taking God's name him and Van in Italy of the nation's Football Association has discipline players her doing so. Since twenty ten almost a decade Houdini and as a midfielder Orlando Mandra was banned for the offense in two thousand eighteen. And according to not the government's room but rules but the Italian f.a.s.t rules players who wear t shirts with personal messages to their family or which make reference to their religious beliefs will also be punished so this is this. This is possible the Italian government can get involved. But there's no will to do wish none whatsoever like the idea. Blasphemy man who may or may not exist depending on what you believe in. That's fine in the sky. Gets all the respect. You'll get a match bat instantly for blasphemy for saying. Oh Oh God or something of that nature but your fellow human being but your fellow human being that has a beating heart and blood and nervous system and thoughts and feelings is and family and future and hopes and dreams. He gets on the long finger. There's protocol that has to be followed. Whatever the hell that means for that guy but for man in the sky no problem no problem so that is just another window into society when the Italian government can can interject into into Italian football and band for saying God but racism? It's a tricky not one. How are we gonNA come on? It's ridiculous and it's all about power structures and the will to actually tackle this

Mario Batali gives up restaurants more than year after sexual misconduct claims

"Chef Mario batali is officially out of his restaurant empire. It's been well over a year since the chef who was once a star of the food network was accused by several of his employees's of sexual harassment and misconduct. But it is not until today that batali was officially divested from all of his food related businesses, including the very popular Austria Mozart restaurant right here in Hollywood. Serena dies editor of either New York. She helped break the story of sexual harassment claims against batali. Serena first of all why did it take so long for this outcome? Well, thank you for having me. It's super complicated. He has a more than sixteen restaurants are dating. Until a few closed and each different restaurant has a different ownership structure. So sometimes a chef will be a partner, and they'll have different investors. So it wasn't kind of an easy break. It was very complicated financially each individual one of the different business, and they had to kind of navigate that. That's as far as I know. I I can't speculate on on what the process was like between JoAnne. Mario. But at least financially there are so many different restaurants that I it it makes it pretty complicated. He was taken off an ABC show. I think right that he was on that happened relatively quickly. But his just because television is so front and center, and you'd see them there every day, and then this had different entanglements. Like you said. Yeah. Yeah. I mean for that. He was he he had a job, right? He wasn't a partner on ABC. Whereas these other place, he has a financial stake in it. There's a lot of legal things with it. I mean, everyone signed something to say, they're a partner in something. And he has to be bought out. They also have to find the money in order to to pay him. It's they didn't disclose how much money at talked to actually buy now up partnerships. Jake. But it couldn't have been a small amount. I was gonna say I mean, for example, he owns or owned, I guess a part of easily which has I know a very popular outlet in Manhattan. And there is one of course, now here in century city and other parts of the world. So he must be he must be walking away with an enormous sum of money everything. Yeah. Well, actually, he hasn't officially bought out of Italy yet. It's a different a different thing entirely. So Italy is still working on buying him out of his ownership stake. He he'd has a minority ownership stake there. But as of right now as long as Italy's making money, he he's benefiting. So how you feel about the bunch of the headlines route they're saying he gives up his stake in the restaurants that gives up or is it sold for a healthy. I I don't I can't speak to his intentions. But I don't know if he's really giving it up that you're making the point there. I know the after the allegations came out shortly after Joe by is longtime business partner made it pretty clear he wanted to buy out. There's a lot of criticisms that even though he had stepped away from day to day operations anyone who aided his restaurants. You know, you're going gonna benefit him financially. And a lot of people didn't feel great about that does all of this have any impact whatsoever on the restaurant industry in general, or is it just very specific to Mario batali. I think it does have a bigger impact. He's such a big guy. He's so not only is he a TV chef he the coronary powerhouse. I mean, he was hugely influential and making the New York City dining scene, take Italian food super seriously and had an impact nationwide as well. I think that's such a. Big celebrity and such a big figure within the restaurant world's having these criticisms. And finally, you know, all this stuff coming out does have a ripple effect and people are looking at that saying, hey, if someone if someone like him. Can get criticized and be taken out of his businesses, and it could happen to anybody. So I my hope is that it does kind of have a ripple effect, and that people are taking more seriously at the very least after our story came out a lot of people have been very scared. I mean here incredible power and on the on the positive side is behavior. I mean, he was very well known and has very well connected. And was very open about helping people out within the industry. So a lot of people owed him favors or their careers to him. And so when it came out people were scared to say anything negative about him. After the first story came a lot more people came out and say, hey, you know, there's something similar has happened to me. And I was always so scared to say anything so at the very least, even if restaurant culture from up top is not changing, I think a lot of people within the industry feel more emboldened to speak up when something bad happens, the business partner who has bought them out of a lot of this insists that he was unaware of any of this misconduct. But not everybody believes that right now. No, I'm I'm incredibly skeptical of it based on an investigation that our reporter. Irene played Jano stage. You talked to so many people who had worked for them for over the years. I mean, it's true that join Mario reportedly weren't as close in more recent years, but for a very long time they were quote unquote to peace in a pot some staffers, I'm derra partying together. Even in his own words. Stroz memoir said that Moore had said that they were hanging out together. And he talked about hitting on women within his own book. And a lot of people said that accused Joe of being not quite like, Mario and his behavior, but still very flirtatious and still making them feel uncomfortable. We had some people saying that, you know, a manager saying that they would not put turn hostesses on the stand. When Joe was in town because of his behavior. Where does the guy like a batali go? I mean, okay. He's gonna end up a lot of money. We've we've kind of figured that. But he's now not in the restaurant business has gone from television. Does he stay at home and make pasta all day? What does he do? You know, I don't know. And it's not really my problem. I mean, he. He has a lot of money. He's had a really bright moment within the industry. I don't know. I hope he does a lot of

Joining us live now NBC radio national correspondent bills. Infor is getting bad. Now isn't Bill yet is Joe good morning. And unfortunately, it's always a sign that we are in the depths of winter. And it is at the flu season is ramping up now. So far it's been a little bit of a late start to the flu season. You remember last year? It was awful this time of year, and it was a bad year that resulted in almost eighty thousand deaths nationwide. Little bit of a slower start this year. But over the last couple of weeks, we have seen a dramatic increase in flu cases, New York. One of twenty four states nationwide reporting widespread flu activity and New Jersey as well where you mentioned the pediatric death there. There have also been thirteen children nationwide who have died so far from the flu in New York. City itself. Wow. Queens the epicenter there. Over five hundred cases reported over the last week in queens alone. So we are definitely seeing a ramp up of the activity here. But health officials again say there is still time to get that flu vaccine there are several variants available, and it appears that the scientists were right on this year. They projected that h one n one and h three and two would be some of the prevalent flu strains this year. And it looks like that's what the vaccine is targeting should be pretty effective. There is still time to get that vaccine. So get out there and get it. And hopefully, everybody stays healthy this winter Joe, very good NBC radio national correspondent bills him for. Let's hope so speaking a health mayor de Blasios introduce an ambitious proposal that would provide health care for all New Yorkers, regardless of their ability to pay it would even cover illegal immigrants. The plan would cost one hundred million dollars a year and covers six hundred thousand people who right now do not have health insurance. I New York City acting the biggest city and country acting. Is actually going to create momentum for those bigger changes. Because people all over the state all over the country to see you know, what universal healthcare really should be the goal mayor called healthcare a human right and accused the Trump administration of working to take healthcare away from many Americans.
