"Mario Balotelli hit the headlines this weekend scoring 5 goals in just a one game, which got me thinking they only got any good Balotelli stories. My best one. If you've got to talk about good ones, I think some of this stuff that you do in training, don't get me wrong, you wouldn't necessarily do the 8 step overs like you did there with the rabona but he had so much skill and the way he'd beat sometimes you've never seen it before and I think that goal there as you can see it's remarkable as soon as he starts doing.

"Experience talking. That's a side. A little bit of shade from Benzema, especially kind of give him their friendship, but the fact that he might is, you know, if you're a Real Madrid player and you believe in that club as you do, the club is bigger than any individual. That's how this club has a need to position himself and continue to position themselves. That Real Madrid as a club are bigger than any individual. So in buffet doesn't decide to cipher Real Madrid. That's on him. That doesn't detract from Real Madrid as a football club or who they are and least of all and I'm an agreement with everybody here. The game that that's to come this weekend. That you okay, you take the news and you move on. Now let's take a look at the bookies have things sets as we mentioned yesterday ahead of Mario traveling to the Champions League.

"Is out on steam. It's extremely fun. So good. The default mode is one where it is a combined race against time and number of strokes. So it's kind of averages out your grade based on how fast you can do it in the least number of shots. And I've been playing with a mouse that does have some kind of controller support, but it's like a billiards game kind of pull back the mouse to cock it and let off the button to shoot and it's very fun. It's a fun mini golf game with really good courses and we played it on the show on Friday and got into the modifiers a little bit and I think that's where the true genius of it lies. There is this kind of like when you are playing competitively collision is on by default and so you can knock all the balls around and all that sort of stuff, but you can turn on exploding collisions. You can turn on low gravity. You could turn on the ability to jump, which is then on a cool down, which just creates a bunch of additional fun chaos all that stuff's built in. And then it does have steam workshop support. There's three or four different courses of varying degrees of completion in the workshop right now that I think we're going to check out tomorrow on Friday on Wednesday. We're going to get live and take a look at some golf gang. Get live. It's really well made. It's a really simple they've had some patches around like lobbies and some of the matchmaking stuff, maybe being funky, we didn't have any trouble getting in a game. When we played on Friday, so I don't know about that, but the actual playing of that game super fun. I was really impressed with it. Yeah, the mechanics they start adding in even in the later levels is odd and it winds up working, which is fun. There's like a gliding mechanic, I believe in like the third or fourth or third world. There's a hang glider, you can go through a ring and it gives you a hang glider for a set amount of time. So you kind of have full ball control to glide over to the next area. Ball. Full of strong after that, my whole life. Full ball control. It's just a certain amount of support that a guy needs. And with offer code bomb, you can wait. You can bingle your way. That's right. And there's a ton of these multiplayer golf games and some of them are hit or miss, but this one I think because of the charger. The charging mechanic or whatever and just how fast paced it kind of increases your wants you to be. Yeah. It lends itself really, really well to multiplayer. Yes, yeah. It's a good, it's a good action golf game. It feels like there's been more and more of those over the last few years here of people trying to break golf in different ways. And I appreciate the way this one breaks golf from multiplayer. When I say this, golf might be the best sport to turn into a video game. You know, I think if you're willing to let go of the boring real life mechanics, yes. Sure. Yeah. The possibilities are endless. I think even they got too serious. Like all sports video games, they got way too serious and way too real, but there is that Sega genesis era PGA Tour golf. Totally. That is just fucking golf. It's just a dude swinging clubs and stuff, but it's still like a really good relaxing and not difficult to understand video game. And then at some point they're like, they just added a few too many mechanics and a bunch of it's too real. Got too real for me. I'm not into it. I haven't seen any windmills. I mean, there's moving pieces on these golf courses, but in the mini golf Pantheon, I feel like you need an actual windmill in there somewhere to really bring it home. When mill is the final boss. Yeah. The other thing they're missing is like a little track that the ball would go through to follow cut it into something and then it's just supposed to be like, oh, where are we going with it? That'd be good. That'd be good. And yeah, I don't know. The whole thing has kind of a monkey ball esque quality to it as well, I think. Just because it is vaguely chaotic. I've always said that about you. Yeah. Vaguely monkey ball esque vaguely chaotic. The control stuff I feel like, I want to be able to, I want to be able to successfully do something locally with two players. And I just don't know if that's going to be a thing. How could you? Exactly. To mice connected to one computer or land situation. I mean, if you got into the controller aspect of it, because it does play with the gamepad if you want to. Then it's as easy as doing split screen. But yeah. So for whatever reason, it wasn't enjoying my gamepad, but that could just be a one off. But yeah, it's just the right kind of the right kind of chaos. Yeah. Yeah, it's pretty fun. If you've got people you play video games with, that might be one worth playing with them. I guess. Let's see, I also got into the closed alpha for multiverses. Which is the Warner Brothers platform fighter. Oh, that's what it's called. Yes. Multiverses. I see who's the early main who is the Ryu or I guess who is the Mario of this game? I've only played a few I've heard it's taz. Oh, okay. I've heard taz is too op. And Finn has a very good down B move or something like that. Okay, I played as the dog and Jake and thought he was pretty good too. But I don't know. They are,.

Putin Takes Mariupol, Faces Defeat in Donbas Region

"Putin takes mariupol, the battle for Mario pull is over, but wider Donbass victory slipping from his reach. This is from Reuters. Even as the Kremlin prepares to take full control of the ruins of mariupol city and faces a growing prospect of defeat in its bid to conquer all of Ukraine's eastern Donbass because it's badly mauled forces lack the manpower for significant advances. Western weaponry bolsters Ukraine's combat power analyst says Russia's forces are unlikely to be vanquished quickly even if there's no major new troop deployment materializing, setting the stage for the four week battle of the Donbass to be just grind on. Quote, I think it's either going to be a defeat, but the current force posture for Russia or mobilize the whole country. I don't think there's any middle ground, according to a Russian consulting firm. We shall see.

"And they have to do with understandings about future trajectory, not necessarily about the immediate facts on the ground. And it seems like we have a very dark filter of what's going on in Russian politics. And that's not just because of that's not really because the Russians are trying to hide any part. I mean, certainly the Russian elites are trying to hide parts of their internal conversation, but also the things that filter out of Russia into western media are things that flatter our vanity. And that when Russians say things that we like to hear them say, then we tend to listen. But you nevertheless, it seems like a lot of Russian critique of the war is not sort of centered around critique of the justice of the war, even the necessity of the war, but rather of how the war is being prosecuted. Sort of the lack of serious mobilization. And sometimes of the aims of the war, right? And that the aims were just far too ambitious at the start of the war. And that there are real achievements here. Mario pull has fallen, right? And that had had.

What's the Strategy for Ukraine Going Forward?

"Congressman, let's go back to Ukraine now. I try to be an optimist about these things. If neurons house Intel, your buddy Tom cotton is on Senate and tell you only use open-sources on the radio. Here's what I fear. I fear that everyone thinks Ukraine is much stronger than they are because they beat back the Russians in the north. And now the Russian tanks in the vast planar on mariupol are pool are positioning themselves. There are 10,000 dead bodies on the street scenario. People should put that in the context of Brooklyn yesterday, 33 wounded or incapacitated on a subway. Imagine 10,000 corpses in the city, what could we do? What should we do when the Russian tanks began to roll out of the Donbass through Mario pole destroying everything in front of them heading to keep from the other side? Well, I think our best strategy now is to provide the Ukrainians with all of the hard power requests that they have made. Now, again, as we started off this conversation, we've made progress on that front. Obviously they're using stingers and javelins to devastating effects, but there is more that we can do. There's more we can do to harness some of the offers that our Eastern European allies, NATO allies have made. And the fact

Preventitive Diplomacy's David Falt Reflects on the Russia-Ukraine War

"So amid new word of sanctions coming from the U.S., along with Europeans looking to do something quite similar, I am joined today by David fault from preventative diplomacy founder and head of preventive diplomacy, which is an organization that works around the world in some pretty dicey places to see some conflict resolution. He specifically has been working at gathering evidence on war crimes there in Ukraine and joins us now. David, welcome. Good to have you here. Thank you very much, Chris. So, okay, let's start with what we saw coming out over the weekend. I mean, it's pretty horrific. You have observers there. Walk us through what you guys are seeing and where you think this is heading in terms of some of the war crimes and the evidence that you've been able to gather. So we deployed very early on in the forest in the first days of the conflict starting, and our assumption was that they were, we didn't think they were going to be able to take Kyiv and we estimated or our guests was that he put in really interest lies in the Black Sea area so that he can connect the crimping with Mario Paul Donbass in that region and maybe extend his slice of the country so to speak, maybe extend it as far as to Odessa, which is a strategic port facility, the basis for that reasoning was pretty simple, we looked at how he behaved in Syria when he joined that conflict and it was pretty obvious that he backed their third regime mainly to secure his military or naval facilities in the Latakia area south of the tartus mountains, so working from backwards from that we figured, yeah, the real onslaught there is going to happen down in the strategic Black Sea port areas. So we wanted to go in early. So we went in in the first couple of days to see what the status of those areas were and what type of reconnaissance team and amphibious activities was going on there. We obviously had to pull out of Mario pole after 9 days of the conflict, this is an independent of effort.

John Zmirak: What Can We Learn From 'The Godfather' Films?

"You've written a great piece at stream dot org about The Godfather movies, talk about that. Sure. Well, we just had the 50th anniversary of the first godfather film. And you know, it's kind of something mysterious about art. It's not predictable. The Godfather one and two are among the greatest films in American history. They're based on a pot boiler novel by Mario puto that you would read at the beach of no particular. Yeah, we've got to say this. The novel, it's not like it was a great work of art and they turned into a great movie. It was a middling work of art by Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola, ingeniously transformed it into spectacular film. Two, godfather one and godfather two. They're two of the greatest films ever made. I would skip godfather three. We could talk about that later. Well, I'll tell you that he re shot. He re edited godfather three. It's now called godfather coda, the death of Michael Corleone. And it's actually a decent film. But the new godfather three was not a decent film. It was so pathetic that I was actually shocked. But let's forget that. It never happened. Godfather one and two, two, the greatest films ever made. And now that's interesting because, again, based on a mediocre work of fiction, but then some of the great novels like Moby dick turned out to be mediocre films. Nobody remembers the movie of Moby dick. I remember Gregory Peck. Greg, Gregory Peck as ahab on the whale and they say, look, even in death, he beckons anyway, never mind. But you're quite right, some of the greatest works of fiction don't make great movies, but not so with those great movies are based on middle works of fiction. Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Ukraine Destroys Two Russia War Ships

"Is it true that a couple of Russia warships were attacked and are now in retreat? Well, it's absolutely true that a Russian worship that does what's called amphibious operation. So it can basically sell up to a beach, not to discourage amphibious troops, but they were using it to resupply their troops their attacking. I believe Mario pole, that ship was destroyed and two other ships were damaged. Now we've seen that the video of this on Twitter beyond that, honestly, I can't tell you very much. Some of the tweeting was, well, it was a short range ballistic missile, which is doesn't really make a whole lot of sense because ballistic missiles aren't normally accurate enough to hit a specific thing.

Why Putin Is All in on Ukraine War

"So general, what should we be looking at? We got about two minutes left. What do you think we should be watching for as an indication that Putin may be about to give up the ghost and realize that his sunk costs are sunk costs? We've got to cut and run. I think we're a far cry from that. I think he's determined based on what I see outside of key, he's stuck in his artillery, dug in his mechanized units. They're not leaving. They can't take Keith but they're not leaving either. I do think what we got to keep an eye on is if and when Mario pole falls, will they be able to take that success that they've had there in the east and the south. And use some of those forces to go us to take Odessa and also to go north to assist with these besiege of Keith, our assessment and ISW is that based on the casualties you, they will not be able to generate that kind of combat momentum. In other words, their casualties that they've had in this fight in the south around Mario pole.

Jack Posobiec Shares the Latest on Ukraine

"Let me ask you just, you know, we haven't really done a lot of the play by play of what's happening in Ukraine on this program because it's changing so quickly and there's so much misinformation and disinformation. What does it look like right now? It looks like the eastern part of Ukraine has been captured by Russian forces. We've been hearing about the fall of Kyiv now for a couple of weeks. What is Putin's endgame here? There is a theory that there might be a peace deal brokered, maybe an east and west Ukraine basically created or Russia basically absorbs the eastern part of Ukraine. What do you think is a realistic off ramp here? Or are we going to see potentially a multi month or multiyear conflict in Ukraine? Well, look, you know, there's been a lot of talk about this. You know, as you stated that on the ground it isn't constantly changing situation look strategically speaking in terms of eastern Ukraine, Russia does now and Russian forces have occupied pretty much all of the strategic locations in eastern Ukraine. The city of her son, the areas around Donetsk and lugansk, obviously up north from Crimea. And then there is that port city of Mario poll where he had this ads off battalion and Ukrainian forces that are maintaining the city, but it has been completely encircled by Russian forces and some news that we're going to be breaking later today. Is that it looks like the Russian forces are actually trying to bisect the city, cut it in half by pushing through to create a corridor, which they claim they want to get civilians out, but I'm sure they're also going to be sending their own military forces in. Now when it comes to Kyiv, again, they're building around their encirclement of the city. If you go read World War II history, you read your read your Russian military battles, Russia's greatest and most glorious moment in combat that they referred to is the Battle of Berlin under Marshall zhukov and what did they do with that? It was 2.5 million men surrounded the city of Berlin 6000 tanks, the tanks were sent in first as battering rams to soften up the defenses to smash their way through and then the troops poured in. That's the exact type same type of strategy that you were seeing now being used or attempted to be set up around Kyiv. Now obviously on a much smaller scale and also they're trying to do this in a way. They don't want to completely destroy the city because again, they keep claiming that they're liberating the city, right? It's the sort of back and forth. So I think what you're really seeing though is they've got the on the ground stuff in the east when it comes to Kyiv. That's not necessarily a military objective for them, but what it is is a political objective. They want to see a point where they want to bring the regime to the point where not maybe not so much that it will completely collapse, but come to the point where they do have to come to a negotiation deal and negotiation deal with

"I want to get your story too, Sean. So before you came to be the password this church in Los Angeles, where did you grow up and when did you come to faith? Well, I grew up, my parents were first generation Christians, and my dad was a colonel in the air force, and he's retired now. And my parents got stationed down here during that Jesus people movement. And so I was really imprinted by that. And I never had a time away from God. I was new guy, but I wanted to see if what we were seeing inside of church culture could work anywhere. And so I started to go to extreme missions. I feel like I was the jackass missionary because I would go out just like the show jackass and go to like red light districts and war zones. You'd like a mini bike off of a cliff with a Jesus pretty much type of thing. We would do really radical things and we would do missions at the same time in different countries. We could do or jump out of airplanes, whatever. But we would see radical things happen like the same things that were happening in charismatic Pentecostal church cultures, we would see that in the dumps of a war zone with children who were orphans who had no other alternatives or an IDP camps. And so I spent the last up until I was married, I spent about 20 years going to extreme places to see if the kingdom would work in those places, and the same way we see it. And we hear reports in church cultures around the world. And I wanted to see if that was real. And so that was my background's a little extreme. I did extreme missionary tourism because I only went for like a week at a time. And then I also spoke in the church at some of the greatest churches in the world for many years. I usually speak about 60 churches a year, but I've taken some time off because I'm producing right now. But man, it's amazing what God's doing right now. If you have eyes to see what you said with Mario Morello, so my background is, I want to see if God will touch extreme places of culture and extreme places where people can't see God without the Holy Spirit showing up. So I'm in Hollywood. I administer in Hollywood in Los Angeles and I also do a lot of stuff with the poor

Welcome to the show man. How you doing dude mario. Thanks so much for having me on appreciate it. Oh my pleasure. My we'll congrats on the new show. Ultimate surfer. I love surfin. This is fine. And i. And i i'm trying to think. Has there been observant shell before the hasn't really been a surfing. Show right yeah. I don't think so this shows pretty unique because it kind of incorporates. A lot of shows that i think viewers at home. We'll be pretty familiar with so. It's like a serving show meets. Big brother meets bachelor in paradise. Essentially sort of what this says got it. And how does it work so fourteen of the best surfers in america. Seven men seven women that comes from hawaii california florida puerto rico all coming together competing and surfing to become the ultimate surfer. Win one hundred thousand dollars and get a spot on the world surfing championship tour. Which is you know. That's the pinnacle of surfing professional surfing. It's essentially like the nfl of surfing. So there's lots on the line but you get fourteen really good looking. People are living together. Anything can happen. So we got lots of drama in the water out of the water up. Because there's so much on the line and that essentially is what show it. And i'm assuming you're hosting jesse i'm hosting this show mario. I grew up in ottawa canada. Which is the mecca of pro surfing. As we all know so i did. I did absolutely vis much growing up right. I was a snows- snow server. All that snowboarding. Right but it's funny man like since i played football with the gators than the new york giants. I've i've always kind of been a fan of serpent from a distance and kelly slater is named to me. That was a guy that i sort of looked at i admired. He's like the michael jordan of professional surfing when eleven world championships. He's totally transcended the sports. So when i found out that he was a part of this and we were going to be filming the show at his surf. Ranch in california. I just do. This is something that i absolutely had to be a part of. Oh i'm excited to hear that. He's a part of it. I didn't want to ask. And i was gonna be disappointed if he was in. Because i would venture say. Because i do love surfing in being in southern california kid i would actually say not only is kelly one of the best servers of all time. It definitely the best but just all around best. Athletes really is the way he's been able to stay on top for so long. It's just unbelievable. And the things he's been able to do i. Honestly i'd i'd put them in there in the mount rushmore for best athletes. I don't that's not far fetched right. No i think you're absolutely right. And i think the thing which really cool about kelly when you get to kind of know him and you're around him you see he's got this crazy. Laser focus mental toughness that so many of the great athletes have right. I think my childhood growing up and people being canadian wayne gretzky. And then michael jordan. We mentioned tom brady today. They all sort of have that. It factor. that's something. Kelly has. Which is why i think he's a big reason why he's been so successful for so many years now in a sport exactly end as opposed to those guys to. I always think individuals sports right. 'cause there's so many factors that go in as you know to team sports but as an individual sport and to stay on top for so long credibly impressive so that's cool that he's involved serious credibility right there. Where where'd you find the other servers as opposed to or not as oppose. I should say aside from america. Where are the best ones. Come from well on this show. Mostly everybody's american. We got one guy coming in from puerto rico as well at our surfers basically come from all different walks of life and all the different levels of circuit we have some of the competitors on a show that have actually already been on the world surfing championship tour. So they've been there and they know by winning this. They get a chance to get back on at the championship towards so hard to get you expensive yet the travel. It's so competitive. Zoo now so i think for them. That's really really unique to. I think for viewers at home really. I mean you don't have to be crazy surf fan to watch and like this show. I think what's cool. Is that a lot of people are going to connect with our surfers because they all have their own individual sewri they all come from different backgrounds and a lot of them have had sorted navigate a different path. Getting to this point some have had to deal with different personal obstacles. Some different traumas. They'd had to get over to get here. Everyone has their own. Why why they're doing it. Why this means so much to them. This really is a once in a lifetime. Opportunity for seven minutes seven women and there's so much on the line. I think those personal stories in connections. I think we're really resonate with a lot of people at home. Yeah no it sounds very cool man have you. Have you tried it now have you. Have you gotten out there. I've tried surfing. I wasn't able to serve on this show because they were afraid. I was going to get hurt. I probably would have pulled might have torn a couple of acl's we all know that would have happened. Inevitably i would have been worth it though. So inevitably mariel. I'm the guy that's like hosting the show tons of foam. Oh i've just got all this envy on the sidelines watching all these beautiful people in the water. Doing what they're doing. Kelly's out there billy camper was like one of the best big wave surfers in the world. He comes on the show and they're just like the surf rant is like one of the most amazing places in the world like seven football fields. Long waters like glass. The perfect wave every time. And i'm just. I'm just kind of there on dry land just allen myself off is because i'm just jealous. Well the thing is about surfing. And i'm sure this show will inspire a lot of people to try it. You can suck and it's still a lot of fun. Just yeah what you know what i mean. You don't even have over there with the big board. I'm still having a good time. Just being out in the sun and with the water and everything. It's it's fantastic jesse. I won't talk a little football season. How do you. How do you feel about my chargers. Do you do think they have a really legitimate shot this year. So i i love the chargers. I love your quarterback. You've got justin herbert the rookie of the year. He's going to be your guy for years and years and years and it's now just about building the team in the pieces around him. You've got so many weapons throat right now. I feel like the chargers doing that. The only problem. I have with the chargers. Mario is that you you play in patrick mahomes division. I know we can't help that. I know but you don't remember when herbert and the first game out even having reps he was winning most of that game they barely let us game. that was some coaching. So i'm not scared him. I think i think our guys are gonna be fired up. We'll say to i. I like the bullets this year. I like the bullets this year. I think we could see a little sneaky playoff run from good. I liked that. I liked that i liked that right there. You.

Keep bring that support but also mad some point having multi-player game nights that were could bring everybody in or nights or days. I mean all things will work out in time. I'm just going one step at a time. But that's part of my plan. So i can include all of you. I mean i. I love and appreciate all of you. I mean the this. This means a lot to me. It's not my day job. But yet i work hard to make it. It's almost like i treat like a not really a day job but just a day daily passion and this this really has kind of changed my life for the better reenters changed my life for the better and this is something that i no matter what happens in life. So yeah that's kind of the rundown of things. I coming up for this and then of course after this also published playlists which is something i've been meaning to do for the interviews i've been doing based on what category so Yeah that's that's like the basic things. "You're a ways ahead of us. Two sundays ago and i was like i'm like screaming and i'm like god. I hope he did it. And then you kind of went far enough up that little ramp. That i couldn't see right away so i thought you would just took took off and stayed on the potato garden and you didn't so glad you heard me. That's all you guys. Come around the corner. You're like oh shit. Yeah so. But i mean that's that's a. That's a huge courtesy just to have it. It's nice to because if you got a big enough group red you're gonna typically break up into smaller groups and it's nice to have at least one person in each of the smaller groups that has the route so the more that have it the better. The chances are that at least one person ever group's going to have it this one. I think drives andrew. And i both nuts. Because we're tip. You're a little lighter than i am but we're both typically prepared for regular stuff. I replace your cartridge. There's the word but don't be the guy that never has spares but always needs spares and if you are replaced them as soon as you can like if you can't do it at the end of the right because you don't meet out of a bike shop bring it the next time you ride. Nothing drives me more crazy and this goes back to my hockey days when guys like oh it was. It was always the same guy asking for tape like dude. You don't have two dollars a barrel taped like seriously so you know. Have a spare to have a spare cartridge. If you don't and somebody lends you one replace it. I mean it's not a big deal. None of those are expensive parts. You know the last the last big courtesy went for me. Is if you're a faster rider or small smaller group of riders in a group weight and regroup at the top climbs climbs are typically where the separation of skill is exacerbated. Point to regroup. Make sure everybody's there but also it turns. That may not seem obvious. I mean you don't have to do it at every turn but there are certain turns on certain routes we do in a fragile. It's the turn on bogs. It's courtesy just a to stop and wait for the group just so that you know half the group doesn't continue going straight when there was a left turn turn you know that's kind of goes the same point of a group right. It's not a race yet. You for certain segments. It's it's certainly fine to go to own pace and you know if you feel like attacking go for it but you know unless it's unless it's like a no drop or something. Yeah but i mean if it's a no drop. You absolutely should to do that. If it's a drop know even still you know there might be a person that i don't know a whole lot of drop rides to honest with you and maybe i just don't ride with that crew but i don't know i mean i've seen a couple postings where it's like you know this is non supported. This is a drop ride. But i know all of the willman rides are no drop in and all the truck rides or no drop so but yeah certainly not a complete list on safety or courtesy standpoints. If there's something major that we missed let us know but it just kinda give you an idea what to expect from your first group ride. I know a.

"Psi. I mean you go a little bit more than i do. I usually go ninety. I do. But i mean that the fact that we're running wider tires add some complaints. I mean we. You don't have a carbon bike but you you've carbon handlebars and you have carbon seat posts. So there's compliance built into that vibration. Dampening built into that for front fork to you could get a more supple tire but to me. I'd rather have the puncture resistance. Yeah and and i know. I know a lot of you're thinking why don't you jerks run tube list. I just don't want to mess with it to be perfectly honest with you i would have sealant everywhere in my basement in my wife already yells at me that there's slick spots on the concrete floor from like lube. I've never slipped on it. So i don't know what she's talking about but like i don't go to for a variety of reasons but one of which is mayor may not be being stubborn. Well there's definitely element of its merits for for offroad but i don't see a lot of people tell me it's the all the you performance gains and and for me. That's not a reason to switch to something. Well and i get it on the road for racers too because it's nice to be able to run over a piece of flint or a piece of glass and if it's a small enough puncture in the tire that the sealant will just patch it and you don't have to worry about pulling over getting a spare all that i get that from a racing standpoint but you know the nice part about the the tubes you don't have to replace them unless a puncture happens and with the ceiling. I mean it's recommended every what three or four months that you replace that if you if you have a tire that sit in for a while and you forget about it that it kind of gets gummy. And i don't know how difficult that is to clean up. But it depends on the brand but like if you're using orange seal. That stuff peels off like a glove for me. It's just not worth the extra little bit of thinking about it and i. I don't have an issue with being uncomfortable. Running tubes tires with on a tube. They're not tubular. But no i'm saying. I don't have a problem. Running inner tubes in my tires from a comfort standpoint. I think because of the tire choice of both of us we experienced minimal punctures. So i just don't see a reason to change. I mean like you said. There's there is a performance benefit but for how we ride the couple of watch that we're going to save gator skins are just one of those like reliable things that that i know going to be quality product. It's going to last for a while. And they just bought proof. It's like five of tires. Yeah kinda is. I mean the the one drawback to me that i've noticed and i don't know if you've noticed this or not they don't. They're not quite as griffey in the wet. There's definitely some better tires tire compounds for for grip in the wet you and i don't ride in wet conditions all that often you more than i do but still we we kinda real it back in. If it's damp out my next tire that i want to try the four seasons be just. Because it's basically they've they've taken the puncture protection of the the gator skins and change the compound to give it more grip in the wet and they've supposedly reduced the rolling resistance and increase the suppleness. The reason i haven't attempted that set tires. Ed is simply the cost. I mean i just got a pair of the blackout gator skins online last week and it was seventy three dollars for the pair whereas the the.

"Made by a small company. Might have heard of them. They're called continental. And it's protocol gator skins. And there's two varieties in gator skin. There's normal gator skin. there's hard case which is basically like turtle shells here is in a half show. Oh boy yeah. I went there. The thing. I like about gator skins. They come in every variety from seven hundred twenty three to seven hundred by thirty. Five i think is the largest. It goes according to the box. That i'm looking at currently is thirty. Two is the high is the biggest ones they make but they are. They tend to be a little bit. They're not super pricey tires. they're not like a race compound like it's not like a hundred bucks for like one tire they they're not cheap but also you do get. I tend to get a little bit more longevity out of gator skin tires than i do. Almost any other tire of ever used and as nick may have alluded to earlier in the episode. I may or may not be a little abusive towards my gear. I wouldn't say abusive. You just look stupid ideas as a challenge as opposed to they are right. Okay what what what. What components am i going to break in. Is it really worth that. Just say Did it yes always is always worth it. But yeah i've i've had the same experience though as one i get i get more mileage out of them but i there's minimal punctures with them as well. Yeah that's to me. Why i teach there the tire of choice to remain. There's parts of the globe that you're you're you'd listen to us raving about gators like man these guys suck like. I wouldn't write anything like that. They're such a harsh ride. Comrade and pittsburgh with your cotton tires and also the at the end of the ride after you've changed your puncture. Yeah i mean. We were on a ride. And i did puncture with pair gator skins and. It was the first time in three years. Yeah i've knock on wood. i have not had. Well let me rephrase that. I haven't had a puncture i haven't had a punctured due to external forces that penetrated the tire. My puncture was actually. I apparently went over a pothole or something fairly hard. And the internal wire of the tire severed and punctured the inner tube abusing your gear. Their dude it's pittsburgh you know how it is. Sometimes you just can't avoid them mogadishu with crappy roads. I will say that. The one downside to the gator skins and this is where a lot of people don't like them is that they aren't the most supple tire out there. Not at all to be honest with you. I notice a subtle difference. But i don't notice a major difference that the the maverick the maverick wheels that came with my 'cause cosmetics are currently on my my damani and they're definitely i can tell that it's a much more supple tire. Don't get me wrong. But.

"Topped group sets are also twelve. Currently they've really become kind of the boutique. Group set manufacturer the manufacturer of like most not most but a lot of pro teams as well. Yeah i mean you see. They're still actually kinda rare. On the pro teams too i mean schramm in sacramento still still have kind of the market for that i. I don't remember the twenty one world numbers. I don't have them in front of me. But they're more rare than you think. Yeah but it's it's definitely become a very boutique groups at brand and you're almost never going to see it on a pre bill. Your that's going to be a special order bike to get camp agnello on on a on a complete bike built they potentially and and this is coming from old campy. Looks good though bike radar. I don't remember they were doing. They were talking about the future of of groups. As a whole and in response to schramm's new groups that that's the most affordable wireless group set and seemingly leading the mechanical. Just kinda fall to the wayside. They're thinking that sh- cag- may become the group set of the like the high end mechanical groups at especially in the rim brake world. There's definitely going to be a lot of people that are gonna fall into that category. Aren't gonna want to get out of it and if shimono follow suit were schramm it. It could be a difficult place to find high end mechanical rain. Say a. yeah. It was really good podcast. I i enjoy their weekly biweekly. They come out kinda sporadically. They don't have a regular schedule. But i enjoy their debate and their conversational style podcasts. If you're looking for something in between our every other week release. Highly recommend them. I will say that in terms of design. If you're into that one of us might be. But i can't be design often. Looks a lot better than it's it's a lot more. It's a lot easier in terms of look in how it looks. See i disagree. I'd say it's more traditional looking. Well that's why it's edgy. Because everyone's going rounded. And yeah. I mean they were kind of the last one to for their and i don't know how to describe it but they they're like they're chain sets. Were just almost more. There was less material to them. I don't know how to really describe it. I mean if you look at shimono schramm's last two iterations sort of eric. Yeah there's you know they. They've gone to. They've gone away from the five bolt in it's affordable. There's there's more material. it's it's called minimalism. So you kind of know you're looking at a camp hag set up when when you see it because it doesn't look the same as cia shimono are schramm. They're super record though. That's a sweet looking group. Set them to.

"That right. But my point though is when you're talking about that kind of attack that's that's pretty affordable. I don't know i could wire up in our. We know kind of build something although it wouldn't be as arrow and prone up battery efficient but i could software and hardware but so i think that schramm's definitely taken the lead in that. Their top group sets all twelve speed. Currently that's rival force and read access now. They're they're mechanical are all still eleven speed. But they're they're top. Electric electronic shifting are all twelve speed. Their mechanics of the shifting is a little different. There's only one lever per side and on the mechanical shifting. It's still the the right one. Takes care of the rear mac. The the left one takes care of front mec but the difference is instead of having to levers. It's it's how far you throw the lever inwards to eighteen gauge differently. So if it's a if you do short throw and the you only hear a single click that's going to do that's gonna make it go into a smaller ring on the front or a bigger in the back and i may screw this up if i if i do sorry. And if you do a large swing which there's two clicks it moves the the max in the opposite direction. I've never used it but it it seems to me that that's not quite as intuitive high. I know a lot of people. Say that the double tap isn't more intuitive than shimono. Maybe i'm just so used to shmona shifting. It doesn't seem as intuitive to me. So i kind of agree with you in some ways but again that's because i'm kind of used to shimon is yeah i mean we're both used to shemona's so the first my first experience with schramm bike my cousin actually has a specialized with schramm on it and she was explaining mechanical shrimp and she was explaining it to me and i was like that's backwards. That's does it sounds broken this many years ago too so i didn't know any better but i was like that sounds broken. Y and then i kinda like. I stole her bike. Go figure for a little bit and wrote around. And i was like. Oh it's not that different. It's just different in a good way like it's the thing that's a interesting to me and and i didn't actually catch this until it was writing up this episode and knew what the double tab was but i didn't know what direction was which. Yeah on the unch on shimono if you think about andrew when you hit the smaller lever you're always going into a smaller cog in regards to that particular. It's it's different on this schramm so on the let me get to my notre quick this short swing.

"The road wheels on for that so just to be clear it. It came off of a fuji. Esl two point one. It looks like i would like to build up a try fox as well. But i think i'm going to hold off until groups at components are a little bit more readily available. They're ready. we've oh boy. I priced it all out on the amazon's this morning. Yeah but my question is how quickly you're going gonna get them not to days. Yeah that's kind of my thoughts. I think disk is going to be the future and it gives you the option to continue to upgrade that bike. I mean we'll talk about this in a little bit. But there's certain component manufacturers that seem to be intent on the direction that they're going in there all in on that direction and i don't think that direction is rim but other than that been hitting the roads a little bit more in terms of things that are new. Yeah i'm one hundred and forty miles ahead of my goal for the year which is great. What is your go. i think it's the same as mine. Six k yeah. It's mine is did last year. And i did just under but i missed two weeks at the end of the year. I wanted to do seven. But that's a lot of time in the saddle well but think about if you're going to an extra thousand miles only it's not even twenty more miles a week. I i know i get that your schedule sometimes allows for a forty five minute ride. So which is why you like a hammer. "The fifty. Three thirty nine podcast. We talk group sets tires riding etiquette. Andrew has an interesting under. We're gonna talk about. I do ready to get started. Yeah that's not right. You're not going to dub it anymore. You're just gonna sing it yourself man. This is really low. Rent welcomed fifty three thirty nine. A podcast about cycling. Four cyclists by non pros. Let's get to it. Yeah so my sandra right. And i i recognize that this could turn into century ride length discussion. But i'm thinking about changing my setup. I've realized that the felt doesn't necessarily fit my wants and needs as well as i thought it would. I have two options right. So i can sell the felt and then take those proceeds in invest in new wheels. New ours are seven thousand one. Oh five new front fork. New seat posts. New handlebars and new. Bottom bracket on the lemonde and then in about a year take all those components and then upgrade to carbon fiber frame or i could keep the felt and swap out the components and just by a carbon fiber frame. What do you think on an overly simplified outlook on this. I wouldn't spend a whole lot upgrading a rim brake bike and the only reason i say that is the way the industry seems to be going is. The future seems to be with disc brakes in the road world. Yes it is in gravel in mountain biking. Actually the it's not the future without making. It is the option and mountain biking right now but i think the road vikings going to go down that direction. What any of us is the only pro team. Running rim right. No there's there's a couple of them. I can't think of the other one off the top of my head. Enna's is rim only on their perello. I can't. I'm i'm drawing a blank on the other one but i know that the lemond has sentimental value to you for obvious reasons but i don't know that i would necessarily go above and beyond upgrading that i think i think getting that to an eleven speed groups would-be enough so even if you just put fifty eight hundred on it. I don't know that i would spend the money on significantly. Upgrading the lemond from that standpoint. Now from a where we are. Currently in the biking industry i think that selling the frame of the the felt is going to be your best option simply because it's kind of a worth about as much as dog turds without components. If the problem that were you're gonna run into is okay. If you sell the felt as is as a bike in not not just as a frame. I'm out a second plague. Well first off your out of second bike. Which i think you should always have to even if one's just a beater bike so that if your main bikes in the shop or not writing condition you have the ability to ride. But i think with the way with how challenging it is to get components right now. If you didn't keep the group set it might be a longer wait than you before you have that. Carbon-fiber bike built. That would be my concern. So it's it's a tough call either way. I think the fastest is to order the freemen swap. The the the felt parts over definitely because those frames are available to clarify begun with a try fox probably an x ten. A clearance fit for gator skin. Twenty eight which is my tire choice. We'll talk about that in a bit. yes we will..

"And as long as you do something not necessarily like if you're putting your hand up or down if you're pointing in stop signs and if you stop at a stop sign like i know i mentioned this on the the ride on sunday. We regret at the top of the one hill. And there's a stop. I don't like stopping there. Because the other motorists stop for a longer duration looking to us like. We're going to cut through the intersection. When in fact we're just waiting for other writers come up by signaling our intent it it makes all cyclists look better. So that's just one thing to keep in mind yeah signaling obstructions as they come up also important you know. Yeah so. I mean if you're if you're riding in a group or in a pace line i mean you may not be able to see what's coming from a road standpoint so your point now potholes branches debris really anything that you would want to change. Your would need to change your your current. Moving line to avoid is something that you're gonna wanna. Yeah you know it can be anywhere can be up down left right. I mean whatever. Theft tends to point out branches. That really are only affecting him because he's you know he writes aside sixty one bike so because he's eight and a happy till right i mean so he's like he's like low low hanging branch doesn't have that problem. But you know potholes curbs dividers in the road just pointing at them just to let other cyclists know that they're i mean obviously. There's things that we need to avoid with smaller tires. That cars just can go over and not even feel it. He had great sir tr- Train tracks posts so that those are kind of the signaling things from a safety standpoint. There's also a vocal signaling in a lot of that kind of leading the group know about traffic coming from the front or the back and you know car up means car in front of us..

"You're changing from a big ringnes small ring obviously you're going to need to go down into a harder gear at the back to keep the pedaling. Cain same so when you change the front ring on the semi sink remote it will actually do that. Automatically for you on the rear cassette so that it's a more natural transition between the two rings. I think that's kind of cool too. So it's it. Gives you the option to still be in control of your your french your mac when having a little bit more of a seamless transition between the manual mode and one of the synchro modes. I mean i. I'm sure you do the same thing. When you're shifting automatically it's a second second nature but you've you've seen my shifting i've also gotten some flak from multiple people about my shifting but Yeah it is what it is. Currently at the time of recording as i mentioned earlier this anticipated to change which shemona's top group sets are currently eleven speed and that puts them slightly behind the other two there but they're they're the most mechanical shift in groups at currently for the road bike industry in other words breakside. I mean apparently ninety two a dir as ninety two hundred is as again as of time of recording. They announced in february twenty twenty one that verified that it will be twelve speed based on some pat and requests but we have as a recording. We haven't seen anything yet so curious to see what that means I'm also curious to see what that means. Moving down say for one five. Well i'll get into that in a second. But i i was gonna say i'm curious to see what that's gonna mean for all in one zero five in regards to number of speeds because that would be shimono. I twelve speed groups at the trickle-down tech a year later right. Yeah may or may not be seen in altogether in one five which i turn. I like the fact that.

"This is different. Yeah it taxes you very very differently. I mean i think the the work that i put in the winters on the trainer helps outside but man. It's just it's very different when you when you're in that race environment on swift compared to some of the road right and we do. I honestly haven't done it crit since early march if the if the weather holds true for this afternoon. I'll probably do on this afternoon. Okay sweet because they're saying chances of rain in the area but it's only like fifty percent so they could end up being a nice day right outside. We'll see so you know other than that not on my end. Andrews claiming my project bikes turned into a headache which is not entirely true. The bike itself is is fine. I just need to get the group set off of the mayor to build it up but the wheels that i wanted. Even if i wasn't gifted the the project bike was that is where the headache is. But that's a that's a that's a tangent. I'm not going to go on right now. That's just a bunch of rhode riding a little bit of very little swift racing. Well actually on a slightly different recording schedule this week because next week sucks for me and it's normally though we recorded sewer actually recording a back to back weeks which is kinda cool ahead of time. Yeah we're we're being prepared for one nine was late but don't tell anybody and it is what it is. Yeah so yeah. That's that's kind of what's been going on with us again. Let us know what you think about andrew's conundrum with his bikes and we might start taking wagers on when the carbon-fiber bike will be in use. 'cause i've a feeling it's going to be longer than he thinks it's going to be just my take. So our main talking point this week is shimono versus schramm versus camping. Nola which correctly camp agnolutto with gene. Yeah can't nolan. He wanted you. Under mario exactly for the talk with its crank arms. It does so both of them. Actually go forward. It's really weird to palley. It's really weird to pedal that way but for our conversation that it will be dropped. Our focus to road and gravel focused. Obviously there's a whole other spectrum of flat bar components this conversation's just not include those. So andrew nye both use shimono. And i i. I don't know about you for me. it's i use it just because that's kind of in the price range that i purchased bikes in. That's a more common.
