"Go get me a juice box. You know you're talking to. I'm talking to the juice box. You're crazy I'm not crazy. I'm thirsty go to hell. He'll go to how. Why are you there? What are you grabbing just box Fox? Boy I'll tell you that ask you. Are you go. I'm not all right. All right thank you for that. Welcome back to this show right to the with coast to coast and around the world on the American forces aradio network. We've been talking to a lot of people as we always do each and every year about a lot of the great Entertainment that goes on with Sketch fast and we have one of the performers with us once again Moshe casher Moshe was in studio with us here. I want to say about five years ago. It's been a while but he has a show tonight. it's at the Swedish American Hall. It's at seven thirty called Moshe. Kassir crowd surfing volume one album released. Show with Brent Wind Bach and then tomorrow to shows at at four pm the endless honeymoon podcast with Natasha. Jero Matt Walsh. In Morgan. Walsh will be a part of that and then at ten thirty. That'll be at Marines memorial by the way and then at ten thirty cobbs iron comic with Moshe Kassir and our friend NATO Green Moshe. Thanks for being on the show again and I'm East Bay guy like yourself. I've lived in Oakland. I I'm from the Richmond Area but I remember when you hear last time. Even though you're like chemist cowl region which is now super hipster. You are like a food stamp kid. I mean you really went through the ringer. Didn't you EH. Well we mentioned the show that you do with your wife. Natasha Jarrow who is a great comedian as well and by either way burning love doesn't get enough credit that show with all the stars it had and your wife was so good in that thing you know that's when I fell over there when I saw She plays Girl I think. She's writing mechanical. And whatever suction happened in that situation with no after that for a long time and I said I'm GonNa marry that while you were the first in line and you. I mean the whole country wanted to marry her after that motion eye. No doubt about it. You know it's funny. We had NATO Green in here the other day and he's not political at all so I'm just trying to think about the the iron comics. Show our friend Adam Cayton Hall in Greg Fitzsimmons the Hilarious Jessica Curson if you could talk about Jessica for a second because I know a lot of comedians Indian say they don't even want to go on After her at the seller or the black cat has she just she just destroys. I think she should be more famous. I think you actually getting more famous. Right he's one of those There's there are those viewpoint. Everyone's universally says that thank you. I don't WANNA go next. What's been juggling? Act on in between the Clinton pollens. She's definitely one of was excited to have her. And I mentioned politics. Like politics is getting so Appointments obviously everybody feels that and that's Kinda Fun author shows this weekend is just kind of. Just it's like you WanNa Parklands after Jessica. They're all pollock lenses to show tonight as an all out works out just dropping all crowd work album called it. A hundred percent spent extemporaneous and then The relationship podcast give advice and that whilst embargo lots from this show and if you want to stop thinking about the point cloud of politics this week a good shot yes we would all like to get away from on that. But it's funny. You mentioned crowd work. That is a scary thing. I know some people that you know if a comedian if a woman will cough it'll take the set off off the rails so to just do a crowd work album. That seemed like it's kind of a role of the Diet sets brave famous. Like I I love the so the so more fun for me but it makes the show more personal for their audience like the audience feels like other shows just created for me for now. Album is kind of like well. How do I do alcon work album? Doesn't feel like it was just for the cry at night. And so it's Kinda crew weird concept that's album with. I asked across five questions like what's The craziest night you've ever had a sexually. What's your wildest experience? I've never been arrested. Ah told their story by off of it and it was often very proud of that. I want to just for you. This is the what's it's a funny thing because it's a thin line to walk like I've been told doing shows like this like don't take a call too long because people don't want to hear the caller they wanna hear you but I always think if it's an interesting caller I want to keep them like I've seen crowd work where I'm like. Okay move on because it's like where you're from what your job and I'm like I. I don't care where this guy's from so you kind of think about that. Like I gotta I gotTa move on here that you can do more the one show and you you can edit out the also unionist. I worked person. That's like I really really does. A lot of anger actors like like. He's always. Every crowd has an interesting story to tell. And it's just my job if I didn't I didn't find it. It's not in Washington. Well that's not true. I I work the road. You know. A couple of towns in the Central Valley in California and my early does you know what do you do with the same financing seventy two times mostly every got imagine like no i. I don't care you know it's dangerous and that's about it that's like you throw. It's like throwing up in a way that spectacular. Yeah make sure it's not a dud literally you know it's like did have the couple more questions for most she cash in town for Sketch fast hometown here. He's from the Oakland. I don't know if you remember when you came in but you took a picture sir inside the wall we have. Everyone signed the wall. And I bring that up because our Chevallier you know. He signed things like I killed. Jesus and then he put a star of David but I bring him up because he wrote on the wall. Moshe casher hates Jews so anything he can write to cause is a problem right. I mean it's funny for the to talk to media. All comedy was particularly juilliard for the one of the news. Listen we all. I'll give you a little bit south in a very small way. I guess he's right but Rachel Feinstein did right on the wall hair. Everyone here hates Jews. I become one of those things. You AH THE ANTI-DEFAMATION League down here it's like we need to paint over these walls One of the things. Yes I the corporate fundraiser. I believe we let Rafi others. There's no doubt about it Speaking of The East Bay. I know that you've worked with Chelsea Peretti you went to school with her but then she also went to grammar school with Andy. Sandberg it's it's amazing uh-huh well what was then the four one five but now the five one oh something about going to attend in uh-huh schools as a little. You Know Jewish that make you find a way to make yourself funny so I guess US check into all boys Catholic High School in Richmond and there were lots of Jewish kids and I said how can be coming to a Catholic school. And they're like my parents would ever send us to the Public School. Did you knock the Patriots have. Let's now You also you were down there at Santa Barbara and do you ever get back to Isla Vista because that's such a beautiful party school but it's also a you you see so you can learn something. I loved my time. It's funny that I was caught crowd surfing because obviously I there's a lot of work but also because the last five years I started which is very funny thing when you think about the fact that I went to school in Santa Barbara Wire I arrested. All of my crime is not spending and then right when I turned thirty. Five and seven pondering my own demise. I was like she's. It's like a fine for extra sports. I know now your dad. You can't do stuff like that. I want to paddle out there is. He's trying to escape all right. You can check out motion tonight. He'll be at the Swedish American Hall For the Crowd Surfing volume one album. Release with Brent Wambach once again. Four o'clock with his lovely and talented wife. Natasha Lazaro. That'll be the only endless honeyman podcasts at Marines memorial and then at ten thirty tomorrow night at COBB's it's that iron comics show with NATO green and lots of other great comics. Moshe thanks for being on the show if you ever get a chance when you're doing doing one of the local clubs we'd love to have studio again. I come back I guess go well. I'm from Oakland so I'm kind of on it but you you can say what you want. I I don't know if they're trying to support the boys to myself and on it there you go you your all inclusive. Thanks a lot. Michelle toxin all right good stuff. That's mostly cashier. And let's go to New York City where we have Charlie. Oh Charlie's not on hold anymore. Okay Charlie if you want to call back you can give us a call back one one. Eight hundred eight seven eight play. I'm sure somebody you know I would love to Like I said you know if if anybody tweets out this Frankie Jerry thing would be like. He's a minor. You should not be making fun of minors. And when you look at the kid he looks like such a sweet kid. He's kind of Chubby. Little freckle faced kid but once again I just WanNa read with the petition says because it has thirty five thousand signatures. This is from high school junior. Kay He didn't have anyone proofread it. He didn't proof. Read it it. It's just five lines lines. It will get more money period and more visitors to gain period. Nf I will get more viz on views because because most government jobs have off have two more children to enjoy their beloved game on TV or at venue. Most most of your playoff games are on Saturday. Probably have to prices be cues more visitors will go charlie and Manhattan. Is that how you guys spell back there. There is that how we what spell.

"Radio Network Sketch fast we've had so many guests come in and join us on the phone as they do each and every year we love it and we're very happy eighteen and bring back once again to the show the sklar brothers and that's because Tomorrow night at the Marines Memorial theatre over on sutter. It's a great little theater. They're going to be doing dumb people town with the sklar brothers and Daniel van Kirk and You guys welcome back to the show once again and Sketch Fest is a lot of fun. One of the things I really like about it. Is that you all kind of hang out and I remember last year. I saw Kevin Pollack Watching Dana Gould and I saw You know Bob Watching Robert Klein. It's a cool little party isn't it. It's great and most of US especially the headliners. You're never in the same city Giddy with all your friends were headliners. You're in San Francisco while your friends and Austin or someone else so the festival atmosphere and sketch specifically the fact that it's over the month the January. They get phenomenal shows. There are a lot of podcasts. So people are up there. We love doing our podcast live. And we've got Chris read from SNL he's going to be on the show. Amy Man is going to be playing music and Ted Leo Punk Rock icon. They're playing music and they'll be guests on it too so it's just so much fun and it does feel like at this party. That San Francisco is in onto like the people who come out to the shows or superstar. Well the good news is it's pouring rain. It's supposed to be clearing up tomorrow. And so you guys guys can gallivant all over the tenderloin. If you want which we always love to do that. I mean BECA junior Gallivan. Yeah I wait. Are we GONNA be stepping in the niners just fever like is it back like we is. It is the city of buzz because of live the fact that you guys could potentially and probably will go to the Super Bowl. Well that's the thing it's funny. I just had Robert Hayes on this show in the previous segment. And he's doing the airplane fortieth year anniversary and that that show is kickoff at Sunday at three. And so you're GONNA be there. No one's going to be. You don't have to worry about that tomorrow. Yeah I think I have to do that. I just want the niners to win the super bowl so that Jimmy Garoppolo can move up to a different level of porn star. Hang out with you you know what I mean like. Get Him in a higher. Let's go to the front page of porn hub. Let's not you know dally around into the lower tabs so the cabs abs keep such a good looking guy like literally just the most like Queens of country should Meghan markle should be like you know I believe this guy for for Garoppolo no doubt about it and listen. Everybody has their own cup of tea. But I I gotta say I was. I was Kinda surprised by the choice. But who the Hell Am I. Hey if it makes makes them happy. And he's winning games. I'm sure most forty niners fan. I mean most forty niners fans are so drunk. They actually think they're add candlestick park. Deal but the raiders game or Raider the game for Christ sake but it is. It is really exciting. I have some friends that are nor cal. dudes and I watched the Seattle game with my buddy Up in Tahoe and he's like Chico state like big time. You Know San Jose but big time niners fan and that play at the end of the game like Ah. He's a very low key guy and I just saw like a ridiculous amount of emotion. It would be like if bill belichick like his. His voice went up a half note. It was like well. Listen I remember seeing you guys at Petaluma and you did the the Ozzie Smith restaurant bit which I I think is fantastic. Your huge sports fans. We know that from your TV appearances. We Know You love the game of baseball so brought into disrepute we've seen seen managers and GM's fired Beltran. Might not even get a chance with the mets. So I WANNA ask you because I'm a lifelong as fan and I'm a little bit embarrassed by what Mike Fires did and so right now. Where's the pendulum between national hero? We should honor this whistle blower to dirty snitch rat. Where is Z.? J Well we had on our podcast on view from the cheap seats this week. which gotTa drop tomorrow? We had Ryan dempster on. And he's like you know you you gotta just you gotTa get better at your relationship with your catchers so that people can't cheat 'cause they're always gonNA try to cheat. I think it's okay that the guy blew the whistle in this moment because he did like the two teams that did it. The most by the way won the world series in the last two years. So I you know. I don't know how much more widespread what it is. But when dempster was saying like you should have a relationship with your catcher to the point. where if you're like touching your hat and he knows you're going to throw fastball? Like or if he he was saying like this has been going on for a long time and it's not just banging on trash cans. Dempster said back in his day if it he said if Ricky Henderson saw the catcher like kick his right leg out a little bit he's like. Oh this guy's throwing a curveball down early I can steal speech like we. I mean I'm GONNA namedrop here. I had Reggie Jackson on the show yesterday and he said I'm sure he was super humble actually surprised he was great. I I know and over the years you never know what you're going to Reggie. But he said something very interesting. He said he wouldn't have wanted to know what's coming because his hallway. He hit and the hallway he reacted. was you know the old making mantle. Things said fastball. React everything else but he said if I knew what it was completely screwed me up which is interesting. Take but I thought it was pretty cool. Reggie Jackson hit a lot of hormones and then struck out a lot. So it's like he took his hacks and if you put the ball on his own and that's what it was and and A. and that's how you do it. I mean it is really fascinating but Dempsey was saying like coaches will call out to their guys in ways that let's guys know what it's going to be so the coaches in the dugout got it like Hey Ryan. Let's go rhino. Let's go you know. It's a fastball. Let's go damn sir. Let's go or says number. It's a curb so like this sort of communication about this stuff. It wasn't just banging on trash cans. I just loved it. They figured it out because of the commemorative Astros World Series. DVD that only the biggest gets homers. Get there's that scene where they're coming down the dugout and into the clubhouse and you'd see like a computer and a trash can and a huge sign that says we did it by the way breaking news fellas ESPN is reporting that. Carlos Beltran has stepped down. He's firing himself. That's Kinda Sad. That's the point I mean I. It's such a widespread scandal that I'm literally saying. Are we next. Are we going to be baseball. How were we implicated in this entire thing thing? I just think they they have to make. This is the biggest story. This is the biggest story next to Julian elements standing up on top of Car Beverly Hills which to me. I really really thinking I would try to make this connection as on the phone with Dempsey yesterday I think the wide receiver and the closer and baseball the same personality. You have to be just crazy easy and Julian Edelman needs to be a super bowl or he's GonNa get drunk and jump on someone's car in Beverly Hills like he has too much time on his hands. You know. It's funny as he was a quarterback at Kent State. He was also a quarterback out here in colleges San Mateo. And it's funny to think about a guy that size who is a quarterback so I mean yeah he has some talent there but but one more thing I wanted to get to the sides the the worst scandal in the history of baseball since the black socks is that the fund that you guys are going to have tomorrow night as I said. You're throwing in music. which I think is kind of a nice little twists? Can you tell us a little more about how that's going to incorporate. Yeah so What's super cool from what we've been doing as we do the show live and we've been doing around the country theater? What we found is that it's cool to incorporate a musical act abandoned? Come on and play our theme song in their in their form the way they do it so. Ab Man has done our show before and when she did our theme song it sounded like a song. Off the Magnolia Soundtrack. It was so good and she and Ted Leo. They have a band together called the both. They're gonNA do their version of duet of our theme song and then throughout the show in between each of these ridiculous dumb true crime crime stories like the woman who got her head stuck in a tailpipe at a country music festival a truck or as we like to call her woman at a country music. So we'll do all kinds of crazy stories like that And in between the stories they will play songs and then they'll also play games with us. Like what is your Florida man and Birthday so you look at your birthday and then we find out what is your what did for a Florida man. Do on the day that you were born like birthday January twelve just happened and we found out that a Florida man threatened to kill his neighbor with kindness and then reveal that kindnesses what he named his machete very very very literal so anyway there's those games they'll play the games with us. It's it's such a fun show and of all the things you've done you've you've you know we've been doing comedy for years. We've been doing sports in comedy. This show dump people talmadge SORTA taps into a little bit of true crime taps into that sort of dumb Florida man. Behavior your best of all the things you've done. This is the thing that is sort of taking off in a way that we couldn't have even predicted it's like jumping into a jetstream people love it. It's a super refund. Show and adding in the music adds a whole other element of variety. Too Dumb people town with a scar brothers. Daniel Van Kirk Leo. Man Chris read. That'll be at the Marines memorial theater over here on Center Street tomorrow night at seven. Thirty all part of a sketch fast and I can tell you. I've seen the sklar brothers and person and it's hard to breathe because all you do is laugh the whole damn time time you guys thank you so much and I love coming on this show man. Some people town for sketch fest. In San Francisco on January seventeenth serve. You're in San Francisco at the Marines Memorial Theatre. It is a huge theater. We want to sell it out. We love to see. Hi there. Good a superstars dot com. We'll put all dates on there. You can check that out Let's get some quick right now shall we. Let's do it If you are not the he'll in wrestling maybe it's best to leave the racially insensitive comments. Is it out. Owed the broadcast so look I. I don't know how people I feel about wrestling. I know people even though they know that it is not. The competition isn't necessarily real because it is scripted. The physicality is definitely real people. Take it seriously. The announcers are free to say whatever they want to say. Right and add me on a recent episode of Nwea a power It was removed from Youtube today after a line from Jim Cornet long time announcer. Yeah drew his comment drew fire from fans. This is the moment occurred during a non title match between Nick. It always occurs during that. You're not on the air you're on your best behavior. Not on the very edge of what you're doing here. So Cornet attempted to describe the strength uncovered and encourage murder. So you're in the heat of the moment all right. We're you hall in a game. which sort of unconscious in your digging into your unconscious to describe what's going on? This is described Murdoch Murdoch. He's the only man I've ever known. Construct a bucket of fried chicken on his back and ride a motor scooter across Ethiopia. I don't even know what that means. What in the world like you ha- by the away that's supposed to be by the way a compliment for the dude and a lot of people were like I don't even understand how that is like mixing racial slurs in a way that you just shouldn't do strap a strap a bucket it fried chicken on your back and drive a motorcycle earlier this month and W.. UA released a statement in regards to comments. Cornet made making light of suicide. I would love to see the band. NWEA do a song about this. Yeah I think thank you know. It's a bummer. Because by the way wrestling wrestling cuts across all racial. That's the beauty of wrestling that everyone gets mad at the he'll it doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman's if he's the manager of a bad guy and he makes some statement like this. Okay Yeah crosses the line yes. We'll make people mad definitely. Awfully make people hate him. Yeah maybe that was. Part of the storyline he soothes. Come on guys gotta go. I hate to say it but I apologize. I would actually love the policy. I would love to see I would love to see exactly. I would love to see again a real apology legit apology and I'd say like look man. We do a lot of things in this and I apologize for what I am. I mean. That's inside of this dude. But if he's awakened to the fact that hey this is in me and I gotta get it out and it's not cool and it's not fair and I've heard the reaction I realized what I did and I realize it now to me I would value that person a lot more. If they said that your in Yemen Golf Heart Sport reading I play. We're not great at it now at a gallery close to you now. People taking pictures. Here's wind guys go off and gals go off the course like when you're hitting the trees and everyone is like giving you a small way to shoot through. I mean I think think I'm GonNa hit you're gonna hit someone in the face. Well someone not get hit in the face. PGA Golfer Brandon Matthews made. Something happened to him and made him. I guess reevaluating his relationship chip with God Gallery Gallery. Okay he forgive. He forgave a fan and adult fan with down syndrome. The drum who yelled during a very crucial shot. That cost him the tournament Vegetable Golfer Brandon Matthews. He was locked in a sudden death playoff tournament in Argentina. Eighteen on's when he heard a yelp from the gallery the middle of a crucial putt Matthews twenty-five years displays distracted by the Sonnen. This eight foot Birdie. PUTT off eight. Feed is not like that thought. I'd gainful Tam. Bait is makeable for these guys four foot. It's not tasked him the visa the opening day Argentina title in Buenos Aires. But and. That's maybe a half a million dollars but here is but I bet it's like the best lesson ever will so he thought someone had done it intentionally. He was frustrated. He was in shock. which is split up? Won't you cannot do that. But then he went back out found found that the guy he's so he went in and it was very angry. Said Hey guys. Coin can't do that and he was angry. Sure because he didn't so went into the house and passed I write I'm GONNA explain to. I'm okay. That was down downside down syndrome right. Who's just a big golf fan? And he came back out of the sky on the guy died gave him a hug and then and said it's okay. I love you man and I. It's whatever it happens with questions. I appreciate his phantom great so a lot of times we talk about how sports gets it. Wrong a Lotta Times. We talked about how people are selfish. Time to talk about how guys are. But this guy isn't tiger woods this guy isn't you know Brooks Kepco is this may be his the closest he ever comes to a win on tour. We don't know we don't know I mean yes. It's great that he's the check he might have had the tournament of his life down to a final PUTT in a playoff. So it's on the line at this point a sudden death playoff and that happened to have it crumble like that and it costs tim money like that. It's a big deal to me. You have to treat it like twenty five years old. I don't know how mature I was at twenty five. I don't know that I would come to me. You have to treat something like that like it's like the the weather you know like the wind kicked up in a way that you couldn't you couldn't tell what was going on and you don't it it. Blew down in a way that you just you know what I mean Finally you know. When does that guy you know? I'm fine if you're an athlete in your way and that's fine with me. It's not my path but I say beauty. That's what gets you know. Love it when people give all the glory to God or fifteen percent fifteen percent five percent to your parents parents ever parent took who sublimated their own desires and thoughts for your sports in dreams for you then there are those guys that go out there. I'd say that the brushfires in Australia are God's way of punishing us who is from this guy from the Westboro Baptist church the Westboro Baptist rugby. You're so look along the second. You can't say that you cannot say that. Brush that things are of of nature nature or God punishing people because punishing the country because they support gay people is that what Israel full loud guy. This guy is like I've got the ball right now. I'M GONNA blast rugby scrum. It is visibly one of the gay or physical. It's like Dude Dude Roddick. So maybe wasn't there but rugby out. Protest you too much. There was a rugby player player. Who in South Africa one of the only out gay athletes and he was like one of the best ever and you think to yourself okay? Rugby you've actually taken taking a step forward here where others have not. We always said that if a guy like Ray Lewis came out and said that he was good. Yes that would change for many people the way they viewed you know somebody who was not seen just seen in a different way. It would change people's minds to the point where there be like. Yeah I can dumb some people who wouldn't accept it might accept but you know what this comes back to and I'll add it on this and then We'll get out of here and we'll come back. "Good to see you it's great to be with you on that we can have this reunion have always people join us great to be back in San Francisco thanks to the Commonwealth club to the marine memorial it's really great thanks so much Dan well I want to start with your book you and I have been we've known each other for over a decade we have traveled the world together we have sat across the table and hundreds of meetings the reader to early in the morning or too late in the evening and I have to say in reading your book I learned a whole lot about you that I did not know and what your book is deeply personal and I want to ask you about the decision to be so personal in your book critical for someone like yourself who is often unfairly been the target of scrutiny well there are many reasons why I wanted to write the book in the first place I mean I've been very lucky to have served our country under two presidents and the spoken on behalf of the United States represented us to the world and and tried to keep us safe but who I am and where I come from is really fundamental to what enabled me to do that and I came from immigrants from Jamaica on one side of my family who made it to Portland Maine in nineteen twelve and I come from the descendants of slaves in South Carolina on the other hand and it's relatively unusual for somebody like me to have had the experiences and opportunities that I've had and so I wanted to share what I've learned frankly from my family from my upbringing from my service in government and I wanted to be able to provide some value to anybody who wants to compete and thrive in unforgiving environments and if they've been knocked down as I have a couple of times to be able to get back up so I wanted to do that but in order to do that I felt like you know I had to be very honest I had to be personal I couldn't share me who I was and what I'd learned without digging deeply and so there's pretty Ross stories in there about for example my parents divorced when I was a young child and how that affected me pretty personal stuff about my kids in some of their health issues and the challenges that I endured in trying to be a mom at one time as senior official and the daughter of ailing and ultimately dying parents so there is a lot that's in there this personal but I didn't feel that I could effectively dismiss those who have characterized me or him miss characterize me on the right and the left without being faithful to who I am and what my actual story is not required being a bit more personal than I think some people might expect at first blush did you have you found that now that the book is out it's being discussed at events like this have you found that uncomfortable is it banned in on burdening like this it like it's some returned about twenty to write the words on paper it's other thing for people to read them what I found in gearing up for the book tour is that for me it was much easier to do the introspection in the solitary work of writing and I'll actually love the craft of writing so I that part wasn't really hard but then I realized oh my god I got to go talk about this it wasn't so much that I was worried about people reading it I was worried about you know am I gonna lose it when I have to get in front of an audience and I found as I was gearing up there yeah I was surprising myself by getting choked up about in particular about my parents so yeah I mean now that I've been doing it for a couple weeks is getting a little easier but it's it's it's a different thing to bare your soul in front of people who you can look in the eye than it is to type on a computer well it's a very powerful story thank you I'm glad you shared it when trump was first elected the I mean it's not even it's like that's.

"Brian Nick, Madore go, you know, my wife, and I watch television, usually MSNBC and Rachel Maddow, got her through the first two years of this. Yeah. But whenever she sees President Obama. It's always the same reaction. It's like exactly cares. Like oh. I mean, don't you just remember when we had a real president or an adult? Israel, president learned mantle I love to community organizer. They used it as a negative. It's a day. Anyway, we're we're fortunate enough right now to have not only a great American. But a woman who worked longest serving senior adviser in the Obama White House and has a new book out called finding my voice. Valerie Jarrett joins us here on Keijo. Valerie good to have you here. And I'm sure you must have that. Same wistful thought now. Yes, I do good afternoon ship delight to be with you. And but I try to turn that wistfulness into action here. No, what am I try to get people to register to vote? You know, forty three percent of eligible Americans didn't vote in the last presidential election. And we gotta get those folks out the sideline and started participating in our democracy. So. It must have been a privilege. I think to work for somebody like Obama who accomplished so much despite the racism and the overwhelming odds with Republican House and Senate and a big chunk of his time. And you know, I grew up in DC, and I remember people talking about when we have an African American president. And he so transcended that I mean, I know it's an important thing to say, but you know, I looked at him. And I didn't think about it the last six years in office. It was it was he was so good and he handled things. So well, this guy has only accomplishment has been to go after the things that Obama Representative. I don't know how to raise or what? But it hurting Americans Bom care being the most notable. Yes, that's exactly the point. Is that this shouldn't be about President Obama the steps at this administration is taking and whether it's rolling back the progress we met around climate and the environment or whether it's threatening for the team time to take health insurance benefits away from. Americans or walking away from the Iran deal, or you name, it the impact isn't hurting President Obama putting the American people let me ask you a question because I by the way, it's good book read the first two chapters and. You feel that way? And and by the way, I wish I should mention that you're in town. At tomorrow night at the marines memorial theatre in San Francisco, and then no that's tomorrow noon and then tomorrow night at the Dominican university in San Rafael, and we will tweet that out of Keijo q. What was that like advising president of the United States? I I know you knew him, and you knew him and Michelle, and you were you kind of had a relationship with him before. Or did you come in? And then the relationship happened after you were visor. No, I met them both in nineteen ninety one. When I was trying to hire Michelle Robinson before they we've been married to join my team in the mayor's office and Bronco. Bama was just out of law school. Yeah. Became good, friends and colleagues and have known each other very well. But advising the president United States is an incredible responsibility at an incredible privilege, and I'm just proud that during his eight years in office. He worked so hard to focus on us, the America people, and they didn't put his sort of political interests ahead of anyone any anyone else. And so I really part of his tenure. That he inherited the worst economic crisis of the great depression and he cut unemployment rate in half. And as you said tip against enormous headwinds coming his way, that's kind of what's the prize me about Washington is how many people they're willing to put this term inches. So far ahead of what was good for the country. But despite all that he just kept plugging away. He kept the lug view. And I think he will go down in history as one of our greatest, I think unemployment would have been in the high twenties had he not done what he did. Right after you know, the the the bus with these credit default swaps, and the, you know, the mortgage bond industry because of deregulation that the Republicans begged for and they got it and spiral the world into a near depression. Dodd-frank which was put in place to try to make sure we never ended up in this situation again. But would also refresh your list news at some of the steps we took it the time. We're not popular industry. There are people going just let it take. But you look at Ohio and good pieces of Michigan. Where would they be without stable automobile industry? You know, we talk a lot about economic disparities in this country, especially with African Americans, and I always point to Flint, Michigan and people know about the water, but I tell people the thing that they forget of a city of one hundred thousand they had one grocery store one. That's exactly right. And what that means type two diabetes and all the things that come into play there. I mean, it's unreal. Cory Booker talking about reparations, and I try to tell people he's not talking about writing checks for individuals. He's talking about putting me back into systems to allow people to have a chance, you know, the old playing field. How about how about let's make sure every child that's a good education. For everybody. It's good for white Hispanic everybody when everybody succeeds. So it's not trickle down economics. It's it's demand side. And it's always worked. So tell me this is a real one to ask you about this. You're born in Iran, and you grew up for while in Iran. My experience I lived in DC right during the crisis of seventy nine, and I saw a lot of the people that had had fled from the Sean they came here, and they loved American I hear this now that so many people in Iran wanna be Americans. They want the Mola's out, you know, going back didn't John and that whole period to where we are. Now, I think that what the President Obama put in place that Trump is dissemble. I think that's a really creates a dangerous thing. And then, you know, the on this other group is a terrorist group the other day, well, say to you might experience any in the fifty s back when he I had states had very strong diplomatic relationship with the shot and the government of Iran. And so I saw the Iranian people who were very different lens. But the people have in changed and. That's why President Obama always delivered. A no Ruz a New Year's message directly to the Iranian people going around the government because he appreciates the culture and the appreciation of the arts and music, and the and the historical aspects of Iran, and the people that still the same. It's just as these those of us in this country who may not have chosen this person to be our president we live with it nonetheless. But we'd like to thank the people around the world know that there's more to us than just who our leader as Valerie that's how I feel about about Iran valley. Jarrett does books called finding my voice you went to Stanford. And I gotta ask him about this whole this whole college admissions crisis. When you went there, you probably fought tooth and nail like a lot of people, especially people of color. What are your thoughts? When you know, the again, what I call white privilege to you know, this. These people seem to entertain how do we how do we get that message across that? We're not doing ourselves any favors as a nation by giving some people privileges and other end denying others opportunity. And I would say this you there has always been affirmative action for the wealthy. Maybe they did it within what was legal. But was it fair? I've know so many people who worked so hard and didn't have family members who could donate and buildings etc. And but this is just completely over the pail. And what's the impact on the children? What message are you sending to your kids that you think it's so important to get into one of these schools that you're willing to go to prison that you're willing to rescue reputation that you're willing to send a message to your child if they don't get in then their life isn't worth anything. It's just we should. I think you know, all these folks who are worrying about college. Oughta do a little soul searching if they think that they should really put their some on the scale. It's children should all be competing on an even playing field. And let you know, let's not start them out skewed the way it is right now. So I think it's a travesty. And I think that the schools are going to have to have a wakeup call and start to look at their processes to make sure that it's fair to every young person. And I think that all these parents who haven't been caught yet at auto real reality. Check and say, do I really wanna take this chance or say send the message to my children? Hey, you know, what life is over? If you don't get in the first school of your choice compete, and you're going to do well wherever you go and life isn't just about what college you get into Nikki. And I we kinda go things I I get a little more hot under the collar. She's a little more calmer. You know, and and I grew up as the youngest a five so I had to have a louder voice. But I I look at what you know where we are. And I know that, you know, your your big advocate for for gun could better control better legislation. And you know, I've read something really broke, my heart. That these towns where there been shootings like, you know, the parkland shooting the politics really haven't changed people said sorry for your loss. But we still we still want to keep the gun laws where they are. And I don't know how. How? After. After the sandy hook. I thought. Well, if it's not going to happen, then when is it going to happen? What are we gotta do? Well, I'll say a few things on it. First of all there are signs of hope to states like Connecticut have passed laws that keep guns out of the wrong hands. And as a result convenience has gone down the young people from parkland who went through a horrendously traumatic experience did put pressure on a governor who had a APRIL's rating from the NRA and the Florida legislature has taken steps to tighten up gun laws, and they travelled around the country, and our registering people to vote to put the spotlight on this issue. Not to mention the March for our lives that had millions of people from around the country galvanize. And I think the challenge is quite frankly, this the NRA spent a great deal of money, donating to members of congress and tell them bursts feel heat coming from their constituents that neutralizes the financial support that they're getting from the NRA, we're not going to see. Actually at the national level that doesn't mean that we shouldn't go state by state, but let's face it guns can travel across state lines without any effort. So we do need a national policy. But I think if we make progress state by state than eventually that's going to put pressure on the federal government, but it couldn't happen too soon. In my book, I got one last question for, you know, reminding everybody that you're going to be tomorrow at noon at the marines memorial theatre here in the city and then tomorrow night at seven o'clock, the Dominican university in San Rafael, so you are the longest adviser longest serving senior adviser in November White House, which one of these democratic candidates would you like to advise, well I spoken to several of them running for office. In my attitude is I will help whichever candidate seeks my counsel. I had the privilege of being a part of President Obama's successful campaign. Not once but twice. And so I learned a good bit about our country. And this is a message that I give to each of them, and that is the authentic tell the. Erica people not just your vision for the country, but why they should trust you to execute. That vision do not spend a lotta time beating up here competitors in the primary election because then we go into the general election in a weakened state, and we can't afford that. Because the ultimate goal here is to take back the White House. And so I think that right now the Democratic Party has an embarrassment of witches it's a little early for me to say who's going to emerge the one that I think can take us over the finish line. But I think we're coming out of the gate strong. And I'm I'm heartened to see so many of the candidates do have an affirmative message do focus on what we can do to unify our country and not polarize it as it has been over the last couple of years, I think of Justice Ginsburg when they asked her, you know, how many women should be on the supreme court. She said why not nine exactly how the movie about her and the amazing had done early in her career? And I think so many people don't appreciate that. No. He's not standing jurist on the supreme court. Justice. But she also has a lifelong passion for for gender equity, and has changed our country in ways that are incredible. And she believes that we should have equal representation where half the population were graduating from college at higher rates than men were have to work for us. We should have a lot more gender equity..

"And I I think I have to go back in and get another layer this isn't enough New Orleans actor disease. Wendy wind was blowing hard. Ken show with an update on old cranky Jerry Brown. The San Francisco Chronicle wrote an article because he and the wife made their first public appearance since he left office in January. I guess they went to where they go some. Oh, yeah. The the marines memorial theatre in San Francisco, as you know, Jerry Brown made his way off to the ranch shopping collusive county, and it says here in the first paragraph. Former governor Jerry Brown's days are now filled with drawing water from a well and watching his neighbors cows grazing on the sprawling land. He doesn't have running water. He does not. So he's got a drag a bucket of water back. It says in the story that they live very it's they have they live in a self sustaining form, they have to install solar panels for power collect water from a well and tend to an olive tree orchard. And how does he how does he shower? I imagine they have running water. I don't know what the wealth thing is maybe exaggerate. I can't believe they live in a place without indoor plumbing. That's what I'm saying running water. That's unhappy Janik it's not mentioned specifically here. They like to throw that in. How does it clean himself the white and Brown says you go to a ranch, and you couldn't go to something more extreme we were in the hubbub? And now we're there with some cows. I found it shocking. I don't think it shocked him though. He's very zen isn't that hypocritical? That they farts methane gas. I think it's their neighbors. Cows though, that's not their cows. Oh, they should kill them that they should kill them. Kill the cows. Because the cows are fighting, and it's warming the planet. You can't be caretaking cows you have to kill them this house. Listen to this hardship. They moved off the grid. The couple security from the California Highway Patrol is ended they had to buy a car after years of getting escorted there. Enlisting the help the help of geologists and hydrologist to provide advice on how to restore damaged soil on their ranch a friendly neighbor stops by the once a month out of the goodness of his heart to collect trash as normal garbage trucks don't pass through this very rural. So he's got a month's worth of garbage that piles up guests. So he's living like a favorite and Brown says we have to provide everything for our sales. We're living in a culture. That's so different from living in the city. Maybe he doesn't have running water. Maybe he doesn't shower anymore. That's kinda nice. Maybe if you're not around anybody what you need to shower. You don't wanna be eighty years old? You're not cleaning yourself that's ever smell old people. That's kinda skin rock off. They they all have a peculiar, aroma. He's tired of bathing, or you know, it's too complicated because they can't walk stand. Well, so they give up on it. So Jerry Brown was asked. What about Gavin Newsom decisions like announcing that the state's proposed high speed rail is going to focus completely on the central valley and will add and that may be it. Mostly he didn't wanna talk much about Newsom past governors don't really comment on the current governor. But then he said China's committed itself to thousands of miles of high speed rail. This is not a California problem. This is an American challenge me. It doesn't mean anything. It keeps quoting says stuff. And the thing is the reporters never challenged and say, what does that mean? No, they just transcribed like stenographers, whatever he says, which is sometimes riddles. We have to invest in new technology to ensure that future, railways and transit systems run on clean renewable energy. We went right onto climate change. We got to get off the oil China's becoming the leader in the production of batteries and electric cars. If we don't watch it. We'll be bailing out the coal industry and five to seven years, the electric car will be the standard. It'll all be Chinese electric cars, go one hundred miles and yeah. Well, nobody's going electric happened by now I had a great guest on the other day when you weren't here. He was with one of the think tanks. I think the Manhattan institute he's here energy expert, and he says for us to move as far as they want us to move to renewables is actually by the laws of science impossible. You cannot generate the kind of energy the world needs from sources like solar and batteries and wind. It's not possible. He said that would take an incredible because he says people always say well look at two computers, look at the technological advances that were made there because it's not the same. The laws of physics that. That's that's like stupid people analogies. But but you land a man on the moon. You gotta be able to do this still not the same. It's not to say, no, he made a very compelling case in detail. There's a limited amount of wind and a limited amount of sunshine to provide energy for the whole planet. It's it's it's not possible to do it not especially because our energy needs grow and grow and grow was the world's population is now more into using energy like China and India middle class, everything we have now the reason we have such a large scale because it works burning oil and gas and coal works really well, efficiently and cheaply since they're seven and a half billion of us on the planet. This is what life is. So here's the ending. Both the Browns acknowledged their new lives on the farm have reinforced the urgency of making personal and nationwide changes to reduce the impacts of climate change their own little cult up there. And here's a classic quote from Jerry Brown. The ranch has passed, but it also has a future because we're in the midst of climate change, and it could well be that in ten or fifteen years. This place is unlivable it could just burn up. This whole ranch is going to burn up dead. I know climate is serious business. This is a real place with real history. And I'm building a real future. But how are we going to get along with nature? We're just not on very good terms with nature. That's how this story. I'm building a real future. You're eighty eighty you have to worry about burning up on you, dude. It'd be gone to the ten years most likely, I don't really think that's the problem. And I see him though in a rocking chair staring at the cows shoot. That weird looking as you gotta kill the cast who do a phone over the tone of milk them. We got workup Chanaka KFI. Debra Mark has news man has pleaded not guilty to murdering an eleven year old girl in Newport Beach, one thousand nine hundred ninety three the girl was also sexually assaulted. The man is also accused of sexually assaulting two kids in Riverside County. A man from LA has been sentenced to twenty years in prison for making bogus emergency calls to the cops. President Bartlett is supposed to go to China for a summit a huge diplomatic mission. And Josh has been organizing it, but the whole thing threatens to unravel when the president accepts a flag of the Taiwanese independence movement. Meanwhile, the primaries haven't started yet, but the battle for the nomination definitely has horns returns with his book full disclosure, plus vice president Russell squares off with the person widely seen as the favourite governor Baker of Pennsylvania. That is not the episode. I watched. But we're here. So that's doing. The title of the episode comes from a Sam Cooke song of the same name. And at the end of this episode. There's a medal of arc ceremony. That's posthumously honoring Sam Cooke, they make a big deal about who these surprise musical guest is. And then give it away really early. Yeah. In the titles. The plot. Kind of is you feel like it's only for the characters because we know right away who the surprise musical guest is. The one the episode. I aired the title of it. A change is gonna come showed up in the title screen the way that you normally would see it. But I don't know if any of you noticed this. But if you watch it on Netflix, or if you downloaded from itunes instead of that, it just says change, and I don't know why they changed it. But they changed it from change. They changed it to change from a change is gonna come when it comes. It reminds me of the scene from cheers that I still think about years later after I've seen it you've seen this. But what he says he's going to he's he's running for city council, and he wins elected to the city council as an agent of chain. And I fully intend to live up to that pledge. I will make chain. Chains chains to change. No say. In here, you make train there you make on change. So it just make the change change make change to make a change. Just. Could be your next podcast. Just saying the word change over and over again. Yeah. I was thinking more episode by the look at cheers. But. We could just do that one snippet of dialogue as both. Speaking of secret, special guests that aren't a secret at all. But our special about our special. Yeah, shall we? Bring out our special guests for.
