Eilean Mor Lighthouse Keepers - Scotland
"Setting for this story revolves around the Flan in aisles. Lighthouse the seventy five foot. Lighthouse was constructed between eighteen ninety five and eighteen ninety nine and cost about six thousand nine hundred pounds sterling which is a great British pounds and that's equivalent to about million dollars in two thousand nineteen money The Lighthouse was first lit on December seventh eighteen ninety nine so this lighthouse sits on. I lean more which literally means large island in Scottish Gaelic and is part of the plan. An aisles. A small island chain on the west coast of mainland Scotland. The islands have been devoid of permit residents since the automation of the flat. Isles Lighthouse in one thousand nine hundred ninety one. So Joe Have you ever bad into the Scotland? Scotland or Ireland. I have I have not either. It's like a lot of things it's on the list. The aisles provide nesting population of seabirds most notably the Atlantic. Puffins there is also a population of rabbits brought to the island by the lighthouse keepers other than Sea Birds in rabbits. There's no real hostile animals on the on the island so That'll rule out any kind of animal attack in the story. Yeah the island of Eileen more for centuries was regarded as a magical place with cer- a certain powerful aura surrounding it sheep herders. Who are the only ones knowns regularly visit? The island called it the other country and believed to be populated by spirits a fairy folk elves and supernatural beans as well as giant birds. Which were said to prowl the area so sounds like a pretty terrifying island. I actually don't want to visit it now. What's funny is it's really small islands just kind of flat. Yeah I won't say flee it's not like plateau wish but I mean it's not like it's huge and jagged so it's kind of funny to think about you think about people back then and there's not much going on so their imagination goes wild. Yeah that's all I can think of is like if you're a sheep herder and you gotta go to the island with your sheep every now and then like you've nothing else to do in expert thinking about this stuff. Yeah it's probably like a self fulfilling myth they hear it from somebody and then you know they probably morphed into these crazy. Stories of supernatural means giant birds over centuries of elephants. Yeah so Yeah the sheep herders and fishermen who visited the island were said to US special rituals to protect themselves from these magical island inhabitants and were said to communicate with them through a special dialect just for this purpose so these guys taking it serious yeah. They formed their own language to to speak with these spirits. So nine thousand nine hundred style. Lopping yeah there. You Go Even before the incident at the lighthouse there have been several stories about mysterious creatures and other things that gave people pause about the island so it sounds like if you lived back in that time. It's it's not somewhere he'd go with your family for vacation. You'd probably try to avoid the island. Yeah I think it exists solely basically to provide the lighthouse and to keep shifts from basically crashing into this island chain. So we'll talk about the lighthouse keepers of the. Eileen more they had if you can imagine a relatively easy job they worked in shifts with three men on and one enjoying two weeks off at all times. Okay so they're always three guys there in one guy off going back. Home was on the island at the time. The three men working that lighthouse that day. Where James do qat? He's forty three years old. Donald MacArthur Forty and Thomas Marshall. Who's twenty eight so I'm GonNa go right into the time line since it was a long time ago? It's based off of diary entries and captain's logs of the boat that was approaching to relieve a one of the men at the lighthouse. So on December Fifteenth Nineteen Hundred Captain Holman aboard the American steamboat. The Ark tour pass by Eileen Moore and notice that the lighthouse was out of operation so this is December fifteenth home and sent out a wireless telegram informing the mainland of the issue. It was for unknown. Reasons not immediately passed onto the northern Lighthouse board which is who is in charge of administering lighthouse. In addition to this First Oversight The lighthouses regularly monitored by telescope from the nearby. Lewes island by a guy named Roderick. Mackenzie Mackenzie had failed to notice that the light was out. The assumption is that there was thick mist in the area had obstructed views since it was just by a telescope for over a week. Known was sure what had happened on the island so they noticed the light was on the fifteenth. Yeah on December twenty sixth in one thousand nine hundred Captain Jim Harvey was bringing the fourth attendant. Joseph more so that has no relation to the name of the island is just coincidence. That the guy's name was more and they're going to the Eileen more so he was going to the lighthouse as the relief Attendant as the ship approached the island. He noted that something was off the re. The relief flag was not flying and no one was waiting the arrival at the landing of the more so he sounded the whistle on the boat and shot a flare to try and catch lighthouse keepers attention but the island continued to remain silent. So Joseph Moore wrote ashore in a row boat and went up the stairs from the from where he docks the boat that went up to lighthouse and according to reports from more himself. The replacement lighthouse keeper suffered an overwhelming sense of foreboding on his long. Walk up to the top of the cliff so he can almost feel. There is something not right so once at the lighthouse more notice something was immediately wrong the door the lighthouses unlocked and in the entrance hall. Two of three oilskin coats were missing. More continued onto the kitchen area where he found a half eaten food in an overturned chair. Almost as if someone jumped from their seat in a hurry to add to this particular scene the kitchen clock it also stopped more. Continue to search the rest the lighthouse but found no sign of lighthouse keepers. He ran back to the ship to inform Captain Harvey who subsequently ordered a search. The Island for the missing men known was ever found Harvey. This is the captain. The ship quickly sent back telegram to the mainland which in turn was forwarded to the northern Lighthouse Board headquarters in Edinburgh the Telegraph read. A dreadful accident has happened at the Flanigan's the three keepers Kat Marshall and the occasion and the occasional have disappeared from the island on our arrival there. This afternoon. No sign of life was to be seen on the island fired a rocket but as no responses made managed to land more who went up to the station but found no keepers there. The clocks were stopped and other signs indicated that an accident must have happened about a week ago. Poor fellows they must bend blown over the cliffs or drawn trying to secure a crane or something like that night coming on. We could not wait to make something as to their fate. I have left more McDonald and boy master in two seamen on the island to keep the light burning until you make other arrangements will not return to Obama until I hear from you. I have repeated this wire to moorhead in case you're not at home. I will remain at the Telegraph office tonight until it closes. If you wish to wire me. So that was his telegram a few days later Robert. Morehead the Board Superintendent who both recruited knew. All three men personally departed for the island to investigate the disappearance. His investigation of the lighthouse found nothing over and above. What more had already reported that is except for lighthouses? Lock so this work. It's interesting muirhead immediately. Noticed that the last few days of entries entries were very unusual on the twelfth of December. Thomas Marshall the second assistant wrote of severe wins the likes of which he had never seen before in twenty years he also noticed that James do cut the principal keeper had been very quiet and that the Third Assistant William MacArthur had been crying. I'm just picturing the scene it. It just reminds me of In movies where there's like people can find somewhere. How before something really bad happens. They're all just acting really strange and yeah. They started to go mad a little bit. Yeah yeah that's that's I I'm with you and that's exactly what I was thinking. So what's really strange about? The final remarks was that William Macarthur was a season Mariner it was known on the Scottish mainland as a tough brawler. So why would he be crying about a storm? And that's I mean if you can just imagine if you go there now yeah I mean bar fights drinking that type of thing so you have this guy here. That's like a big tough guy. You know brought to tears over a storm. I mean initially people from Scotland. There tough tough people. This is a third hand story that someone I know that's from Ireland. Told me you know like when they say tough brawler this happened. I ten fifteen years ago. He was in a bar in Scotland in this American walked in and kind of like a Dorky looking American and ask where the bathroom was and apparently somebody in the park didn't like that and literally bottled him. And that bottling is just. They broke a beer bottle over the back of his head. I don't know the story is true. But that's sound like stereotypical Scotland Bar. Like so I I believe it. Yeah WanNa believe it soccer team just lost and they're pissed off and yeah football team. Mike you'RE GONNA get body falls. Sorry but yeah. They're tough so log entries on the thirteenth December state at the storm is still raging and that offer men had been praying but why would three experience lighthouse keeper safely situated under Brand New Light House? That was one hundred fifty feet above sea level. Be Praying for storm to stop. This should be perfectly safe in theory. Even more particular peculiar is that there were no reported. Storms in the area on the Twelfth Thirteenth Fourteenth of December. In fact the weather was calm in the storms that were to batter. The island didn't hit until December seventeenth. So that's kind of what get strange about this because it's not some island off the mill nowhere. Yeah it's very close to mainland. So they would know if there were storms like that actually occurring at that time. Yeah and like you said they were all very experienced. They were stationed in a brand New Light House. That I'm sure the lighthouse still standing to this

I think for folks who say that you add minutely we're watching the as a little more closely than than you have in years past. So I got you got a good feel for that. But you're right. They have locking studs, man. They do I just think that the Mariners they could they could be just a click away from like, you said Tim Beckham going, so he doesn't have a fucking nine year window where he's great maybe three year window where he. Just outstanding for who knows. Maybe that's now. And if it is I like, you know for two fucking not be please. So right now as as like the Seattle Mariners are in a situation where they're looking great. But their teams in that division that are are better than them that haven't played up to their standards just yet that being the as and the Astros but the Astros. They've they've quote unquote turned a corner this hold on turn turn the corner. They they turned a corner because they were playing poorly. Right. But then they swept the Yankees in in Houston. So after that shadow to the Astros, by the way that it's not easy to turn corners in baseball. It's you know, sometimes you get pulled him one direction. There's nothing you can do. It's like when the Titanic sank and in Jack was just getting yet down to the bottom of the ocean. By that current it just it happens. It just happens sometimes and during a baseball season so credit to the Astros for swimming to the top of the surface there and that series against New York in about four games writer, three games this three games. Yep. Three games. Very. Like a small quarter. Yeah. He has a quick corner to turn around the Astros that ever swept the Yankees ever. Yes. What the fuck really? That's you got to think about how much time they spent in the NL. Yeah. Don't think too much about that. Because then it makes my stat less impressive. Noticed that was not enough. It's true. Those fucking cutting room floor scrap impressive, nevertheless. After this game. Kick it down to the. Yes network. Yeah. Boots on the ground..

"For your spawn, I I love the energy love the energy. But I am here for the buck in route Netto door, Joey bats type baseball like you've gotta problem who we issues. Let's go how many times Jared? How many times have I petitioned for the NHL hockey rules to be transferred over to the baseball field done it? I've asked for it to happen. Let them let them roll you. And me, let's go if you can stop me into a muddle you've turned into an oil stain. Great see a hope I can still pitch if not that was an asshole move by me, wasn't it. Yeah. Second of shuts the door on that. But again, I love I love the fact that anytime that there's a brawl. Yes. Yelp week is right there in the middle of it. Like that guy's just ready to go whether whether you've wronged him or not it's he's just ready to defend his teammates via fisticuffs. I'm going to call an audible here to of. Two topics. This. There's two topics that I want to hit on today. The first one let's give some love to the Seattle. Mariners while dropping lots of de everywhere. The Pacific northwest is on fire corrobos on fire my Twitter feed getting blown up booking mariner fans. It's what they're twelve and two. And I think they've homered in all fourteen games about bucking Mitch Haniger. My God who we wanted to get on the spikes up tour didn't work out. But not no forever. Nope. Out right now just to couldn't right now. Yeah. Seattle Mariners have the best run differential in major league baseball through through fourteen games. There are plus forty one. They've won nine of their last ten five straight coming into Thursday. I don't like and they're seven and water on the road. There's seven one on the road. Are we buying this small sample from from the the early going from the Seattle? Mariners. I can't. Well, I just remember what was it? It was either last year the year before our member talking about the Seattle manners. 'cause they they held a playoff spot somewhat decently into the season. And what was the canosa's bench in last year? Yes. Okay. So then it was last year because we were talking about canot like where are they going? What are they gonna do with them when he comes back, and because he is not eligible for the postseason if the mayor's make it we're talking postseason for that. Mariners team last year. Do you get the sense that, you know, without Edwin d as we know that they're not a better team in that regard necessarily. But what about just what about this? Mariners team just feels different to you versus the Seattle Mariners of a year ago. 'cause there is a completely different feel. I feel like I mean. There's a a longer line of. I think that's ultimately what you take away from this team. Now is I mean because there were guys who came up last year during the season. Like, I'm trying to think what Vogel box is a name that I think comes to mind. Yeah. Who the fuck was this, dude? He came out of nowhere, and he was fucking throwing head a little bit. And I just I think I just just shit like that. You're like you have an idea of who these guys are now. Why? And I guess I'm speaking more from a guy who watches the AL west, you know, very closely. It's not a lineup that you're like. Oh, wow. Oh, you guys. I mean, come on tip fucking is. This is the Tim Beckham coming out party is slaying Slade corrobos, Tim that is has not stopped dropping dick since Japan. I can't really this guy's been a pain in my ass since two thirty in the morning in the middle of fuck and March he's his.

"Prospects all using one season ticket package and that's our marketing team took that information in greeted at the also created one that was a little bit more business focused and so we've been testing that and I think that's when we look at kind of some of the changes over time in general with marketing and sales in the relationships over time that has evolved as well you know I think I'm curious to hear also what you are able to learn share with some of your counterparts in other teams. I can't imagine that Microsoft and apple and Google are sharing marketing and sales ideas very often but in your competitors really are competitive. You're sort of the other teams and other markets. You don't necessarily compete with for these ticket sales. How much sharing is there between yourself and your counterparts at some of the other teams Major League Baseball on perhaps teams your counterparts in other sports while you're right? We don't compete. We compete on the field but we don't necessarily compete in the market so I would say across M._l._b.. There's quite a bit of sharing both on the marketing <hes> side but also the sale hillside and we meet regularly we have regular calls sharing best practices. Each market is unique so that can be challenging but we are often talking to each other about how really two to raise the profile of the industry in general and then certainly outside of the industry there are outside of M._l._b.. There are other leagues that we consult with on a regular basis. I am not above ever of picking up the phone and calling someone that I saw a great idea. How did you do it? How did it work and I think that that's something that we encourage? I mean we encourage our our team to do that. Across the board in this market as well as outside market okay awesome just couple more minutes here with Francis Trace when the senior vice president of sales at the Seattle Mariners and I'm curious as you as you build your sales team in as you look to hire new sales reps and then a lot of people probably think it'd be a lot of fun to work for a professional sports organization nation but at the end of the day it is still it is a job is a sales job. You have to hit your number. <hes> they're just like anywhere else what are some of the attributes of good sales reps and good new hires you look for are they different for ticket sales versus corporate sales in you know what kind of experience Rodriguez are you looking for some of your ideal neck sales. That's a really good question. I mean I think are fundamentally. People need to have just a general first of all a desire to work ethic you. You you'd said it best sale. I've always wanted to work in sports or I roy's wanted to work for. The mariners is key to that is work. Now is the key to that phrase so I think there's just an overarching fundamental caring about in doing a good job. That is a fundamental. <hes> you know trait that we're looking for. Is that in your pass that something that you've been striving for is excellence in some area and overarching for me I think in order to the good at sales is really a general curiosity in interest you know there are a lot of people that can talk to prospects than <hes> consumers but really if you are curious. You're going to make the most of that conversation. You're going to lead that conversation into the next level so that to me is a trait that is perhaps a little under <hes> valued in general and certainly need to be organized. You need to have perseverance. Perseverence would be helpful to have some strategic thinking that those are some things we can help you with <hes> in general. I really believe that just a good solid person who wants to do the best job we can. We can help. We can teach you how to sell if you are a good person who has the desire to to be the best. That's great well last question as we wrap up here in just a couple more minutes. You've been with the Organization for over twenty years. It's it's it's impressive to me. How many senior leaders with the mariners have similar tenure Kevin Martinez with the organization? Almost as long as you have tim heavily who was back back in the day he was my boss when I was when I was an intern with the P._R.. Department with the Mariners when I was in school and still bill is the vice president of communications what are some of the advantages of having sort of course sales marketing leadership team that has such longevity in the organization but what are also some of the pitfalls that might come along with that in terms of sort of having some of the same four walls in the same perspective for such a long period of time that you have to watch yeah. I mean you've said it best way. I can't say enough about the organization why we've been here. We've all been here for so long. Is that while it's the same baseball played every a year. It's always something different. I mean it's very exciting industry to work in. It's constantly changing their new opportunities in in challenges each year so I think that that speaks to why I'm here why Kevin's Year Tim's here we also are very fortunate to have a extremely stable ownership group and a very supportive ownership group that that wants to be successful here in Seattle so so we're fortunate to have that and so with not not having the changes day to day that some other organizations have you know any kind of changing leadership can be challenging for an organization can be invigorating or it can be challenging. <hes> we do try to challenge ourselves. I think that's just inherent in our organization that it's not just time to make the donuts every day. We're we are always looking at. How can we do this better? How can we do this differently and it all comes back to our main? Focus is on our fan. You know we know that we have a baseball side that is focused on trying to have our baseball team win on the field but in the end what the things that we can control are the fan experience and how you feel when you're you're in contact with someone from our organization so I I would say we do a fairly good job internally of challenging ourselves in trying to get outside of just this is how we always do it. Love it will we are unfortunately at a time Wanna think again. I guess Francis Tradesman our senior vice president of sales for the Seattle Mariners like I said a lot of people listening to this <hes> it's the end of February beginning March depending on when you're getting this episode it may still be cold but baseball is right around the corner in the exciting new season the best time of year for every team. Every team is tied for first place and you never know what's going to happen on the on the field so thank you Francis for joining us. Thanks everyone for listening to another episode. We'll see you next time on sales pipeline radio. The way we do business is advancing faster than ever before yet amongst disruptions. There's one pillar that stay standing through it. "I mean, the royals are also in world hurt. So we don't. Yeah. You guys aren't the royals. Right. That's always yet. She She got. got. I will defend willy. And and I even to send any of the ranger prospects. I love Taylor Hearn. So. That's pretty awesome. I do like to learn a lot also Bubba Thompson is the man with him. When he got drafted Ofek is great. I'm excited. We've got an interview with Julio problem or tina's, right? JP? We realized that he didn't speak English them much. So. Yeah. Yeah. He's from Cuba. I don't speaking. This is good. That's start start. No. But I think about also looking at these rotations. I just like I think the mirrors have better retention than the three other teams. Get ready. Yeah. They legitimately do like. Okay. Oh, my God the Rangers. I mean, whatever this along offseason these teams, especially the angels ice will go out and do something and probably half. They'll spend money on someone. That's their prime Oakland has to. So I just like, yeah. I just like, I don't know whatever it doesn't matter. Again. It's not gonna matter. They're not going to be anyone Lockhart, but I will leave. I we've gone a long hair. I leave you with this thought, we leave this guy. What if they're not that that what if? Ready, right? All the dreams right now. You just told his inspirational thing, let me hear it. This is not something I believe. But I I'm gonna say this. Okay. There are look there. You look at the teams like the Rangers teams like is in the royals in the Marlins, right? It's like there's literally zero path for this team to be good zero zero. None zip right right right now, the Mariners there a one percenter. There. One percenter team, folks. This is a team has I said they have six win Matana. You gotta believe you gotta believe them change one of the best ten baseball. If he's still there, you still if you make cross channel you're causing your JP Crawford fulfilling the prophecy of the prospect lists for license ago costlier because you're balancing baggage d Gordon hitting three hundred stealing seventy bags and you have now Smith Smith, by the way, we'll also get three hundred sixty bags which is going to be great and Jaber return to form he will be motivated to reach three hundred career home runs. In fact. Will reach four hundred career home runs. Jay, Bruce will be hitting a home run. Every time the plate for the two thousand nineteen Seattle. Mariners and Felix Hernandez is going to return to form in good votes. Because he is motivated to not let this team go down. Thank you know. Hey, I'm here is so I'm about I'm kidding about half of that stuff. But I will say that it would be funny. If even if it is completely unsustainable. If after the ultimate tear down after they literally trade. Seven of their eight best players. If they come out and are like nineteen ten in April. The clippers this year like trading. Good. What doesn't make sense? That would be the number one seed in the west. I just wanted to just want to take a few games on the Astros because -absolutely hate them more than anything. I've ever known in my entire life. You should have said that when we opened my man. First thing is about them besides half the roster who I hate a few on there. Like, I love. Who doesn't live to Caribbean? Korea's a nice. I mean, he's the prototype. Let's be real here. But then. Third base. I wanna punch. I love that man. Sorry. I mean, of course, like you're supposed to but. Yeah. I love bregman the best subside. Running on a beach together was like it was like all the hate in me like. What's going on? Vans of the worst fans act like they've won a million World Series. I'm like, so, you know, you only have one right? The only one in the state of Texas. Yeah. Yeah. That's true. That's a good point. Yeah. Well. On that note. I say that he doesn't nineteen Seattle. Mariners ready insane. Take ready. Crazy insane ridiculous. Take ready. They are going to be a five hundred team..

"I don't understand just literally doesn't matter. What they do. You remember when they won the offseason last year, Elia lafley Phillies? Also, by the way, it's gonna be greed. Also, by the way, like Atanas amazing. God, he's he and it sucks. Like, by the way, Saturday is the one year anniversary of him picking the annuals admirers fans being depressed. We think he did research. Like did he think it'll be good really don't wanna get to this. Because it sends me. Jordan of bad place. So let's not do that again. But the point is have Otani who facing they have my Johnny's maybe the best player of all time. They can't figure it out. And it's just finding. So I would still probably pick the angels at this point. Because I think that they have some moves to make this off season that could make them somewhat decent. But I also think the angels end a matter what they do. They will continually win eighty two games and not matter. So yeah, pretty I will say that I maintain that. I think I have if there's one thing that I've learned tonight. It is the Mariners will still be better than the Rangers. And I feel very good about I can assure you that one. And I would honestly like if you gave me an over under told me the Mariners are gonna win X amount of games. I tell you that the Rangers aren't going to be within probably ten games. That like I live in Texas. So I have the unfortunate deal of seeing roof riders games and seeing going to basically any any baseball game that I can the ranger system is so dry. It's the worst like it used to be so good that used to be a mayo good. Yeah. Biggest ever seen ballpark? It's been. It's byu Eileen. I live crisco. Oh, but I'm sorry. Are you because I love Willie Kathleen Willey. Calhoun is a D H is a like. He can't play defense. Think about this thing about this thing, Dan Vogel. Of course, he's a DA show. I mean, look at it. Right, right. Willie? Calhoun is like five eight and he's a DA. That's the best. I think will get a hit this year. And you're gonna eat your words in. I will I don't lose. There's nothing wrong with his that. He may be out build on ever seen in my entire life. And I had to watch JD Martinez half the year. Like, listen, Jane, which takes bad route wanna hear routes. This is another van route. Ninety s. Yup. Defenseman. Chris her every time he comes up again. He just expand rout super like, but that's again, just bad routes anyway. With Sumer opinions like almost. If that's the guy. People off than I than God bless. I mean, that's tolerance. But no, that's one. That's what I like the troll with. Yeah. I was fun a Royal fan day because he said he was like Alice Gordon was a better hitter. In outfielder Andrew Benintendi shows. Like, listen, sir. I would ask you, sir. Mouth. "By there's a lot of interesting moving parts. It is a classic classic race trade and a classic mariner straight. I like that. We just spent fifteen minutes talking about Mike Zunino from Alex Smith, just just let us wait until James Paxton gets traded, right? Which could be any second now Lee chant axed, right after we finished recording takes about James Paxton, if he gets traded, and depending on what he gets traded for here's one of my takes them going to preview it James Paxton now goes, Lance Lynn, James hawks like most predict probably my favorite pitcher in baseball right now. So how dare you get out my favorite picture? The difference is Lance Lynn has you know, a track record of extended major league success the level of the innings eater versus the guy. Who's actually it is like these are the extremes. Yeah. Well, it feels strange to be talking about the Mariners on a purely Xs and os level to retouching your bellwether makers are racist or not. But it was awkward. I wanted to use the Daniel Mangan retina puppies from the storm drain story that came out this morning, a segue. But I don't know if that would have made it more or less awkward. No. I don't know. Well, what I was going to say is that there was some buzz before this trade was made about. About how the manners might consider just tearing down and going full rebuild. And I do think they're one of the more interesting teams, not just because they're always one of the more active teams over the offseason. But because they are in this position where you wonder whether at some point they are just going to say, okay, we gave it a shot and will commit to several more seasons of not making the playoffs while we actually rebuild this thing. And I don't know whether this trade tells us anything one way or another about whether that's their thinking, I know that there were subsequent reports. After the reports that said, they might do that that said, they probably won't do that seems like it's probably still influx. In maybe depends on what sort of offers, they get but tax can go, and that doesn't necessarily commit them, I suppose to a long-term rebuild now. Because pats not going to be a part of the next good. Mariners team. He's too old. Here's the guy. He's not too old Shohei Ohtani the American League rookie of the year. That was a good segue Verkey of your. So this is a wards week rookie of the year voting came out last night as we record manager of the year, which I don't know about you guys. But I don't really care about comes out tonight. So and we'll deal with young on Wednesday or Cy Young on Wednesday MVP's on Thursday will do what those next week's episode American League Shohei Ohtani. First McGowan do her second glacier towards third. Joey Wendell fourth National League Ronald a tuna I want so to second Walker. Bueller third. I that nationally ballot is exactly how I had it and opinion Soto in some order. Bueller third. I think it was the only reasonable way to look at that. We'll give erase. Yeah. I have no major complaints. Of course, you can go down the ballot and find fault with individual ballots. But on the whole, I think the writers got it. Right. And it looked for a while like the AKU. Soto. Bueller? Race was going to be closer than it was..

"Mean that her claims of gender or racial discrimination aren't valid. I don't want to impugn Dr marred by comparing her day angel Hernandez, but he filed the grievance saying that he was passed over for assignments or promotions based on based on his race. And everybody jokes about angel Hernandez being a bad unpire. But it's also, you know, it's not implausible that his complaints about racial discrimination. Could also be true plausible, probably even likely, so whatever personal or performance issues. The Mariners had with her. You know, that doesn't automatically mean that she's miss remembering or relying. You know, I think I think it's good that you know, she threatened to file a lawsuit in the news article. I hope she does. I hope 'em obese investigation which announced was a launch today. Turns up new information on this. Because whatever you think about any of the parties involved, we can't we a baseball community can ignore this. Yeah. And you know, I think there's a lot of ugliness that comes out of accusations like. This because you have people with their tribal affiliations to a team that just kind of instinctively react and say, oh, well, she was fired, and she's bitter, and she's just making up these stories, and we just can't know whether that's true or untrue at has to be investigated. And we'll be and hopefully, we will find out the truth, and we'll see whether these claims can be corroborated because some of the claims they're pretty specific to hear, you know, we're talking about specific conversations we're talking about the specific trainers. She saying we're dismissed because of racism, I mean, there are things here that I don't know whether they're easily verified or refuted. But we are. We know what we're talking about here. It's not just some nebulous claims, which of course, could be true. But here we have very definite claims. And the Mariners response has been am I wrong in thinking it's a little more strident than denials or where? We're looking at this statements have been on both sides. Really? I mean the way that out being like, this her naming names, and and citing specific instances is. Yeah. Like, I mean, it it varies shows you. Yeah. I don't know. That's unusual. But it shows you like this is serious. This is not just an embittered employee on the way out or you know, on the way out the door. But the Mariners savant back. It's not just we're looking into it. It's cheese making this office. Centrally it's very the whole thing. I don't feel like I have a a great handle on it. Because it's it's just not how these things usually play. And I mean, if you look at maybe this is getting too in the details, but a lot of the comments she says were made specifically about Dominican players. A lot of the Mariners important players are from the Dominican Republic Nelson Cruz who is a free agent now. But he's from the Dominican Republic she and Sagrada Robinson canal like these are important players in the organization who would presumably be affected if these views are seen to happen throughout this organization and would probably want to see this investigated to not to to speak for them. But this is. The kind of thing that has a lot of different effects and a lot of different places. You know, if you kind of parse the Mariners statement, it's hard exactly to tell you know. Of course, they're vehemently denying many of her claims, but they are also refuting the claim that they fired a trainer, but they say, you know, we haven't terminated a trainer this off season, which is very specific. She didn't necessarily say that it was this off season and terminated can mean many things right in baseball. It's kind of a a seasonable gig often where you kind of worked from one year to the next, and this is about the time that people get new jobs or lose their jobs, and you can have a contract not renewed. So maybe they just mean. Well, we didn't fire them. We just let their contract expire. I don't know. It's hard to say we have to wait for some fact-finding to happen here at set sort of where I'm at I want to want to know more. And I imagine we will find out more before too long with the. You know, a lawsuit does get filed and majorly baseball's investigation, and if it's good that MLB, obviously MLB is going to investigate this..

"The Mariners for MLB dot com. And Greg Mariners whenever happens. These last couple of months of the season is gonna be fascinating. It's going to be a major storyline just because they are trying to end that longest playoff drought in North American professional sports. You know, at one time it seemed like they're running away with at least a wildcard spot. They fell back the as caught them, and it was interesting to see how both those clubs approach the trade deadline. From the Mariners perspective, they acquired Cameron Mabon from the Marlins. And then they beefed up their bullpen. Zach, Duke Adam, Warren and Sam to Eva Lula. Good old Sami t- so what did you think about their trade deadline approach? I know a lot of people were expecting them maybe at a starting pitcher, but it would seems like in this particular market, you know, they kinda you dance with the what's there. Basically, they beefed up their bullpen instead. Maybe learn us to. On that. You know, the remarks Chinky earlier I got onto to Vallejo. It's always a challenge in the writing business as you guys know. They went, I guess people been clamoring for them to add to that rotation since the since last winter really end to put on like our guys like Marco Gonzalez turned out to be a huge, give them monkey mainly less than it might be last less always come in solid in James Paxton or. Been the hope for when the scene so that the struggle with Felix keeping him healthy in cal-, getting him back to any semblance of Felix really big question there. So they got, got, you know, locations, Ben good. They feel like. Far at another start with those guys are expensive in the with the resources they have and really probably the lack of prospects to compete for some of the relief stars didn't figure the is that could get really gonna help that much got a reservoir near us close to coming off the of the deal could Essen depth to that those rotation. So they gotta win heavy on the bullpen, brought in three guys in on that. I guess it's kind of trendies Bill that will shorten the games and see if you've made that works. So so far they've been, it's been a pretty good formula their stars enough to get him in this position where if they can keep those guys healthy enough down the stretch at intimate homerun. So guy cameramen really a veteran centerfield.

"I mean he's been absolutely amazing this whole season has been pretty crazy me see i thirty to thirty five and save ops i mean everybody has a little blemishes but the blown saves but i mean that's why it's a lot of close games for the marlins mariners i mean the only have what are they fifty four and thirty one so he's saved over well over half of their games and he's he's been able to be that stalwart in in the bullpen that has been very good this whole season only i mean when you get when you get your started going eight innings obviously paxton has been very good eight he's aiding two three three nine eight headed to dc i mean they thing is they aren't missing robinson keynote and that's been the biggest prize for me in this whole run for the mariners is that they're staying healthy and they're not missing robertson connote they slid i think they're having a who's playing play in dee gordon was very easy addition i mean very easy move from back to his normal original position at second base he was moved obviously when he was traded over the marlins from the from the marlins he was meant to play center field for seattle what she did and then obviously canot gets the suspension and he goes and fills in right at second base like an easy little few right they're not missing and then you get horita in center field you could put they have a bunch they have a couple of different guys out there who can basically platoon center field which is fine teams do that because you have a ryan healy who's hitting them crazy i mean he's he's got can just looking at their lions right now he's only had two fifty two but he had a big big big weekend obviously and then you've got jeans girl who i love honestly love ben always been jeans gervais and actually bounced around a couple different teams now but finding a home in seattle becoming their shortstop has been a big deal for him he's in three thirty five dee gordon still great speed on on the base that got power in the middle of lineup with the hannigan crews and seger so they got a good a good catcher i mean they're not they're they're lineup is solid i mean you canot back when he goes back from the suspension it's like getting his free trade in like late august or whenever you whenever he's do back but i mean this is going to be a team that if they can stay healthy if they can stay like energized like an old is plane rise can get really long enough to travel a lot of miles but if you can stay energized stay engaged in if you're pitching stays where it is because obviously with mike leake nice little dish in chains paxton's to automatic they've automatic but he's been very good and then mark williams all says well king felix also so they've been able to figure it out what they rotate asian and then obviously getting the clutch hits when they want because i mean that's a lot of close games they've had thirty five opportunities for for as a safe games he's not thirty two of them and that's well oh well over half their wins for for the marlins from the mariners so whether they're going to catch them or astros i don't think that's the case that's not gonna happen astros just got swept anytime obey which is crazy i just think the the the way the raise matchup against them is really interesting but yeah the raise the raise are tied with eleven eleven days back of that second wildcard there tied with none other but the the the the los angeles angels anaheim angels are one game over five hundred forty three and forty two did come all way back down to the mean after starting so hot the aids have a better record the maze or forty six and thirty nine there they have their seven games over right now which is crazy and but.

"The part of the red sox and astros i can actually list you off the entire rotation of top my head for both those teams that can't really do it with many other teams because of the just the turnover and the injury issues we've had over the last of last few months or so i mean look at those mariners i love those mariners uniform something to wear 'em every home sunday game they were those blue the blue uniform with the blue hats and the blue piping instead of the navy piping got like that little switzerland i think there are also doing throw tile turn turn head the clock or whatever it is the the pre kind of the retro retro almost like the future jerseys with the red on them we saw back when they had junior griffey junior was wearing those you're going to go back and do that again all right that'll wrap it up for the segment league over the marriage a little bit talking about what's been making them click obviously having to deal with that robinson canot suspension hasn't really hindered them as they got mitch anger going corey southern cal secrets finally starting to sing swing it and then obviously having a d gordon is a really nice edition that's a good good move right there by the marriage could make a difference for them as he's taken over senatorial position is really hell down there for seattle or we're gonna come back and talk a little bit with the red sox we'll talk a little more but the mariners as well and probably the down back says they have bow themselves back in first place and then we'll go over the weekend the week coming up for nfl segment so everybody say didn't we will be right back.

"I mean there are teams that have looked at their rosters and maybe we're even better set up for the future than the mariners currently are in decided to tear down and rebuild so is the vendors haven't done that yet and i guess i applaud in support their efforts to try to get there and it's been fun to watch dipoto just entirely remake the roster attempts to do that and i don't know if you could say that he's really made the rebuild longer or worse by doing that maybe i don't know but i guess it was worth a shot and knowing how long it will likely take as you were just saying it's as a fan i would imagine that did you know a very mixed feelings situation 'cause he wanna kind of get going but you also want to avoid that as long as you possibly can i don't think that any one one i talked to other mariners fans i think that at least in at this moment when they are directing disatisfaction they tend to be sort of looking ownerships way because they think there is an annoyance that they have not especially this year spent money which you know i think there there's some really good reasons that they haven't done that in terms of the free agents that were available to them in what they would have had to spend an it's not as if they're the mariners teams of all that were running really really low payrolls i haven't looked lately but i think they're still up in one hundred and fifty million dollar range so it isn't as bad as it used to be but i appreciate that frustration it's like if you're gonna hold on and and keep trying to make the postseason and sort of delaying this edible bit of misery that you're going to inflict on your fans for while it seems like they're sort of half in half out on doing that when they're not spending money so i think it's mostly been hey ownership write a check round event hey jerry quit it so murray will i poets for not asking any seeker questions but p it pretty bland season so can i say yeah.

"Face as we begin to wind down this undying never ending serious team preview episodes signed petach team is unsurprisingly stuck kind of in the middle of the seattle mariners all of the teams that we're talking about at this point in the series are stuck in the middle marriage is one of them and to talk about the mariners we are joined by van graphs zone meg rally hello hello are the mariners good or i should say are are the mariners anyway distinguished from for this season the athletics the rangers and the angels well they have james paxton don't have a show a tiny yeah i guess he's just bad can you imagine what mayor twitter there then like if he had been doing this as a mariner good good gravy no i mean they're older than some of those teams which is disconcerting if you're hoping for them to do fun and unexpected things they don't have a lot of great pitching which is sort of true of a lot of these guys who are lumped in the middle yeah there are more of them who we know from last year than this time last year there's been a lot less movement the roster so that's a good thing but yeah thing i think that the the main sort of thing that they have done is what they haven't done this off season which is going into this year it was expected that they needed to address some of their woes starting pitching because they used a shocking number of pitchers last year and had very poor pitching health some of which you know we might expect to be fluky but some of which is what happens when you get guys who are a little bit older in your hoping for maybe a return to form.

"To be a month that he's out could be as much as two months per general manager jerry dipoto of seattle so the mariners and the angels could be without two of their best hitters for a month plus the rangers are dead i mean you you you killed on this week and they're fifteen and a half and a half games back of you right now there to and eight in their last ten games they've lost four in a row you want the whole we east or shaming the aol east you on the show was this weekend i mean it's done swept the rangers took care business all disappointing out easy the rangers were a take care of seriously i i am a little bit bummed out that there's no one right now that is a rival of the astros and there is gonna keep winning and and i mean they're doing stuff that we haven't seen in a really long time i were going all the way back to two thousand one for some of the things that the ashes have been doing it is right to watch it really is there what their 26 games above five hundred up to fifty seven games and when they got to twenty five games over five hundred that's the earliest that a team has reached twenty five games over five hundred since the two thousand one mariners there are on pace to win a hundred in sixteen games this year that would match the alltime record with the two thousand one mariners and a nineteen oh six cops who played in less games on looking ahead at the rest of their first half kansas city's not playing so well you wrap up that series thursday you have a weekend home series against the angels then the rangers you don't play good team until june six teams the red sox who are kind good you've got the as the mariners the as again and yankee i've said this once again before the all star break they have to top series both of which are at home against the red sox and against the yankees both our weekend series both are series that you should go to if you do like to watch baseball games live i'll be honest not the biggest fan i'm going to actually be in boston.
