"Aaron judge had a pair of home runs as the New York Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners ten to four. Judge drove in three runs and scored three times his two run Homer in the third inning gave the Yankees the lead. Hitting the homers and giving your time the game giving your team the lead is most important thing because with our pitching staff, you know, you give them a lead and they're gonna take care of the rest. "AP's sports and Mike Reeves, it was a frantic finish at the Indianapolis 500, our Tom McKay reports. Josef Newgarden used a one lap shootout to grab the lead from 2022 champ Marcus Ericsson to win the Indy 500. You know, I wasn't looking to take anyone else out of the race, but I was going to put my car on the line to win. And I was either going to win the race or I was going to end up in the wall. Newgarden driving for team owner Roger Penske survived a chaotic final 40 miles, which saw the race stop three times for Rex. Major League Baseball the rays win a wild one over the Dodgers in Tampa Bay, correspondent Steve Carney provides the details. The Tampa Bay Rays used a 7th inning RBI ground out by wander Franco to break a ten ten tie and defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 11 to ten. Both starters got hit around as Gavin stone allowed 7 runs in two innings of work, while Josh Fleming allowed ten runs in 6 innings, including 5 home runs, Tampa Bay finishes at ten game home stands 7 and three, while the Dodgers complete their longest road trip of 2023 with a four and 6 Mark. The Yankees used a 7 run third inning to defeat the Padres ten to 7, Aaron judge and Harrison Bader hit home runs to support winning pitcher Garrett Cole, who is now 6 and zero. This was a good team win today for sure. I mean, being able to kind of subdue them through the middle innings and keep the momentum. Atlanta rookie Shuster allows only 1 hit as Braves edge Mariners 3-2 for series win

"The Atlanta Braves behind the stellar pitching of rookie Jared Shuster defeated Seattle three two and gained a series win over the Mariners. Schuster went 6 innings, yielded just one hit, a solo home run to Jared Kellen, walked only one and struck out 7. Braves manager Brian snicker. That's a grind going out there for 6 innings against a team like this and but that was awesome. Trapezo started homered for Atlanta mad Olsen and Eddie Rosario also drove in runs for the braves. "Four AP sports I'm geffen cool ball, the Seattle kraken aren't done yet after forcing a decisive game 7th correspondent Jim Bernard reports, the Seattle kraken, even their best of 7 playoff series with the Dallas stars at three games apiece with a 6 three victory. The kraken took control early and jumped to a four one lead minutes into the second period. Jordan Everly had two goals and one assist for the game. We played aggressive. I think that's what we had to do. I mean, you don't want to come out in these situations and sit back and go into the summer wondering why. In the NBA, the Phoenix Suns fired Monty Williams on Saturday two years after reaching the NBA Finals in a year after he was the overwhelming choice as the coach of the year. "And I expect another big jump this year and ticket sales as long as they continue to be good throughout the season because it's a pretty good group in terms of people have identified with them. They like them. A lot of the personalities and I mean like Julio just is a draw. People just like I haven't when I was a kid in 94, you know, I think it was an 8th grade or as in high school 94 95, but even when I was a kid in 8th grade, I remember going to see griffey as a rookie and just what the number of little kids that were there. And like this year, this past year, you just can't, I couldn't believe the amount of young kids I saw back at the park all were in Julio jerseys or following Julio. Everything about Julio, like that guy, that kid has captured that whole area, like the way he's gone about everything. And so it's just, there's kind of been this renaissance of baseball excitement, but it's an excitement around having that superstar. He's locked in and unlike griffey, I think he's a lot more comfortable with it, but that charisma and everything like you just can't help but be drawn into him and you're just seeing it all over like kids all over in Julio gear. You just see it. Like when I was at the airport a few weeks ago going to Mexico, I just noticed there were kids all over and they're all wearing Julio stuff, you know, a Mariners hat and stuff. And you didn't see that for a while. I mean, I've been out in the in Tacoma areas since 2006. And that hadn't always been readily available. And to see kind of the boom now, I really think, you know, the Mariners could be in a prime window for success, not just on the field, but kind of in, you know, growing their brand across that area and drawing fans. So we have paragraphs have the Mariners projected for 83 and a half wins, so that's second in the west behind the Astros, you know, baseball perspectives and have them third behind the angels and then Houston on top. And I'm curious what your senses of where they see themselves in relation to a division that is getting stronger. You know, you have the angels trying to actually supplement trout and Otani with a bunch of guys who are competent big leaguers, the rangers are making these big pushes with their free agent signings. So where do they understand themselves to be? Well, the angels didn't really get a competent big league manager to supplement the situation, but we'll hear about and the fan grafts projections and everything else. They tend to mention and every once in a while, they'll notice, oh, we were picked to win this, this and this last year and look what we did. And on the year before, so they know, you know, I don't think there are division winner by any means. I just, I really like the Astros moves this off season I thought they were pretty smart. And until you even say, well, yeah, we played it right with them, but you didn't beat them. You know, played right with them in the postseason. And you didn't beat them. Now the Mariners were missing some guys. And the Mariners played them more competitively than they have in a long time. But you know, that's get you a division. Being competitive against a team, unless you can find ways to beat them, doesn't really matter. So I still think that the Astros are heads and tails above everybody else. Seattle, I would pick second. I guess maybe I've been burned too many times thinking that angels are going to be good. And then they're not. I like what Texas did. I thought Texas played really well towards the end of last season as well. There are not good defensively, though. But they gave the Mariners troubles and I guess if all these pitching guys and we've already seen some stuff with the ground, but that was the biggest thing with the rangers last year is the Mariners knew they could score runs against them. You know, when they couldn't score runs against anybody, they knew they could score runs against some rangers. And I think, you know, either the bullpen or the starters. So this year, if those improvements are there, I think it'll be better, you know, I still think the Mariners are the second best team. And I think they're probably about an 87 win team. But we'll see, you know, as they're currently constructed, I wouldn't be surprised if they try and make a move again. At mid season, you know, they're never ending pursuit of Brian Reynolds will continue. Forever. And, you know, until, you know, unless Jared really turns into something that will continue to try and get him. But you know, you can see spots where maybe they can supplement get more of a full-time DH that can bang it a little bit more than trying to piece it together all the time. Yeah, we've been ending these segments by asking our guests to say what would be a successful season for the team that they're previewing and prior to this year, I guess the answer for the Mariners would have been easy. You've got to make the playoffs, right?

"Of like, you know, Brett Favre, or one of those quarterbacks who always tries to make the impossible happen every time. Whereas just take what's given. I think the lack of shifts will help him. Thinks a maturity will help him. You know, I didn't know if he'd be around, honestly, I thought if they tried to make a trade for Brian Reynolds or somebody else that maybe he would be packaged in him. It may speak to where his value is at. But the Mariners believe he still can be something more than he's been. And I think if you look at kind of the talent and what you see from him, he definitely think that. So, yeah, I'm not expecting much more than. But if you got so crazy, we're saying this about it, 'cause we used to say about zen, you know, with the swinging is. But if you got like, if you got him to a two 40 to 50 batting average, you know, the power, the natural power will produce extra base hits. You know, and he's a plus base runner when it comes to like aggressiveness and stuff. I think, you know, baby steps first, just don't strike out as much. Understand what you want to do with breaking pitches, understand what guys are trying to do and don't try and sell out, you know, try and refine a little bit of the contact ability that he had when he was younger that seems to have been lost. You know, when in a push for power that wasn't necessarily what the Mariners asked, but what he thought was going to get him to the big league sooner. So one of the positions that Seattle definitely needed to shore up coming into this year was second base. They relied on Adam Fraser a lot there last year, you know, Abraham toro moonlighted there. He sort of offset a lot of Adam Frazier's war at the position and their solution to that was to go out and acquire Colton Wong, who I think they had flirted with as a potential free agent addition at one point in the recent past. What should Mariners fans expect out of Wong? You know, I haven't, you know, a ton of them. I mean, you watch them a little bit on TV. He still looks really athletic. I think he's 31, maybe, 32. The Mariners proceed him after going into the 21 season after the 2020 they needed. A filler at second base, going into 21, they had offered colt and I believe two years. And the brewers came back with another extra year, an extra option year or whatever. And Jerry de poto basically wasn't allowed to counter. By Kevin Mather at the time. And so, you know, they lost him and, you know, kind of tried to piece it together. I think, you know, I know he had a ton of errors last year and long blamed it from playing in the shift, you know, the brewer shifted a lot more than he was used to and didn't really love that. And kind of got into a funk, lost trust with his hands. I think he'll be fine. You know, now it's like you're just kind of play. I mean, there is no shift, so click you're not, you're playing a more traditional second base, you probably go up playing. He looks athletic still. From a hitting standpoint, you know, they just need better bat to ball guys in the bottom of the order. You know, Fraser was supposed to be that, but there just wasn't a lot of pop when he did. You know, I was like, he was back to ball, but it just didn't go anywhere. Wong has a little more pop. It might not be as much as he did when he's in Milwaukee or in the central. But yeah, I mean, just be a little bit better than what they've had. Because if you look at it, 2021, they won 90 games and they pieced it together with toro and Dylan Moore and how many shed long might have been out there. You know, and then last year they pieced together with toro and Fraser, but they never really gotten exceptional production where they just, you know, since probably Robinson Cano. Yeah. And so just don't be kind of, you know, that position just can't be a zero offensively and defensively. And I don't think it will be. I don't know that Colton Wong is going to go back to his 20 2018 forum with the Cardinals, but I think he'll be a better player than he was last year for certain. One of the Mariners intriguing rookies last year was Matt brasch, who is also one of the Mariners many WBC players this spring. He was up and down last year, great stuff, shaky control is probably a generous way to put it. He was in the rotation he was in the bullpen. Is he pretty much locked into relief now when he gets back from the WBC? This year for certain. He didn't want to be lucky. He didn't want to go to the bullpen last year, obviously, after he kind of pitched himself out of the rotation early in the year. Scouts have always kind of projected him as a reliever type because it's all hard, you know, the big slider and the knuckle curve and then the big fastball and not a lot of, you know, like you said, it's not just command. It's control. Like being able to throw a strike, let alone, quality strikes. But the Mariners were going to let him this off season stretch out to be a starter or at least come into camp as a starter and compete, you know, knowing, hey, we just had a season before where nobody got hurt at all. So let's have some depth as a starter in case something happens early in the spring. But with him going to the WBC and wanting to go to the WBC, the ramp up to being ready to pitch in games and such. The mayor said, okay, if you're going to do that, we'll let you do that, but we want you to just build up as a reliever because it's easier and it's quick and we don't want to run any risk of you getting hurt. Early because of its different than you've done before, because he missed all of 2020, essentially. And I'm just not a ton of volume in his past. So they just decided, look, if you want to pitch in the WBC, we'd rather then just have you come to camp only as a reliever.

"Finding a way to navigate through this season, you know, make 28 starts coming off a year where you pitched double what you've ever pitched in a professional season before. I think will be big. You know, if he makes 28 starts, that's a really good player. Like with George, I just think it's, hey, you know, be out there for it all. And can you make 28 starts, and can you do those things? And this is a guy that learned how to throw a two seam fastball. Middle of the year and saw Robbie ray do it and say, hey, let me try that. And picked it up and within three weeks was throwing at 97 miles an hour at the front hit up of a left handed hitter and having it dive back onto the plate. And just leaving guys shaking their head like, well, what the hell is this all about? So, I mean, I think that's, you know, a guy that's like, where do you go? You just kind of refine it. You just get a little bit better. Avoid one of the, you know, you're always going to have bad outings, but find ways to maybe work your way out of trouble at times. Say, they don't have all your best stuff or whatever. Can you find your way to get out of it and give the team a productive start? And they're going to still watch his innings and his workload. You know, if he goes out and throws a hundred pitches, one star, the 90 7, you know, the next one might only be 80 or 85, because they want him to monitor that. But I think for him, it's healthy, you know, having a way to combat lefties with that two seamer. I don't know that he'll ever have a great change up, but then again, you never know. Maybe it was just like Robbie ray and Logan Gilbert each fooling around with split finger fastballs, maybe George, Kirby picks up a baseball one day and says, well, I think I'll try a split finger and comes out and it's going to be a plus pitch because like Robbie ray was saying today, that kid is that talented. He can manipulate a baseball so naturally compared to the other guys, like they have to work at it. He just grips it, finds a way he says, what do I want this to do? And then throws it and it does it. I wanted to ask about Gilbert because he obviously had a great season last year. It took a step forward from his rookie campaign. What is the next move for him? What can he do to improve on a three two ERA and a three four 6 5th? Yeah, I mean, I guess Logan does give up some hard contact, you know? He will give up the bomb. I think that's the big thing is maybe just kind of being able to some of the hard contact numbers. His off speed stuff is improving, you know, the extension he gets on his fastball. Otherwise it's kind of straight at times, but I think that's just the big thing is finding ways to limit hard contact is this new split finger that he's toying with and I saw a video of it and looked like a wiffle ball. Does that help do that? Especially against lefties. Lefties lefties find ways, like if they can find ways to stay off the slider or the breaking ball early in counts and just kind of load up on that fastball and cheat it a little bit. They hit them and they hit them hard. Does the split finger off set that? I mean, I think that's the biggest step for him is limiting the hard contact and being able to do that. Because he's a really good pitcher in the moment. You saw what he did late in the season, you know, the game where they clinched against the a's, he was outstanding now. That wasn't the toughest lineup in the world, but he's really good. And I think he's, he's the type of person that will analyze data analyze results, all this kind of stuff. And get better every time out. Now, if you talk to his best friend Cal Raleigh, who's his harshest critic, Cal would be like, oh, he's never good ever, you know, but Cal, that's kind of the whole roommates thing as well. But I think I've been like, we're sitting there talking about what Logan and George could be and they're coming off years that are really good. For me, this group for success is just about being on the field. If they're on the field and they're on the mountain pitching, consistently, and not battling any kind of lingering arm issues or anything like that, then they're a pretty good group altogether. The weakest projected position for the Mariners is left field. And I guess also DH some of the same guys on the depth charts at each of those positions. But it comes back to the Jared Kellen question, right? So what is the outlook for Cal Nick as if that is ever an easy question to answer? And how do you expect the playing time to pan out with Cal Nick and Pollock and other players in that mix? As far as I know, I mean, it's going to be a strait of a platoon as possible and left field. You know, with Pollock starting the games in left when there is a lefty on the mound, you know, and Jared will be out there in the right hand of days and, you know, I would think you'll see Jared as a defensive replacement late in games. And I think if you can do that, if you can just limit Jared to face and righties for right now, and I don't think he has a bad approach or a bad swing against lefties. It's just like a lot of the left he was facing for a while, or just really, really good. What does to it did to him late in the season was kind of borderline cruelty. But yeah, I think we're talking about this today and we were having lunch. And I expect him to be a competent big league player, now is he going to match the hype that he was before? No, I don't see that. You know, even as bad as he was and how often he swung and miss, if you look at the collected of two seasons two abbreviated seasons, I think it's about 500 plate appearances that are still 21 homers and I think 20 doubles. And think about that. He was not put in a situation to succeed at times. He was really, you know, that he faced a lot of lefties early. They played him when he was struggling anybody else in 21. And so I think, you know, if the Mariners do a better job of controlling the scenarios where he's playing, I think he'll find some moderate to decent success and then can build on that. I think the talent is there. You look at everything that he does, he is God all the tools, but it's just the ability to kind of relax himself and play. And understanding the moment, not trying to hit a Grand Slam, when there's nobody on base. You know, how do you handle all that stuff? And then the failure that comes with it, it was like

"Not a single team in the AL east projects from even 90 wins for us, right? Let alone more than 90 and you might say, well, that's ridiculous. They got some, they got some good teams. Well, yeah, they got a bunch of good teams. That's a problem. They got to play each other, even if they play each other a little less than they have in years past. So yeah, and then, you know, guys will be good who we don't anticipate being good. Guys will get hurt who we think will play a full year's worth of innings or plate appearances. You know, stuff will change between now and when the season closes, but this is, this is our guest right now. And I think it's a pretty well informed one. Yeah, and there's not a single team that has 0% playoff odds. Every team is at least at .1%, rounding up to .1. So yeah, I think that we received and heard the feedback that zero suggested a finality before the season had even begun that people thought both did not reflect the math and also was a bummer. So right. Yes, there are 6 teams that have 0% World Series odds. Yeah. But we're not expecting a lot from the rockies or the reds. Red pirates, yeah. They're in the zero percent World Series odds club. But Stranger Things have happened, I guess. If you have say, I'm having to weigh whether Stranger Things have happened than one of those teams winning the World Series this year. Probably maybe at least in the world, if not the world of baseball. I did just compare to the fan graphs play ads, because somewhat similar methodologies just in principle at the core. But some significant differences here in has some higher highs and lower lows in terms of the projected wind totals, maybe because it's just one projection system instead of an amalgamation of two potentially. So a little bit of a wider range there. But I look for the bigger differences if you're someone who's looking for a reason for optimism about a team that one of these projections. You can do some shows. I really, you know, I think puka is onto something with those mets, but it's got, you know, it's definitely wrong about the cardinals, you know. So the teams with a double digit percentage point differential. So these are the teams that the fan graphs playoff odds are higher on than the picota based playoff ads. Top of the list, the Giants where the fan graphs are about 21 percentage points higher. So fan grass says the Giants with like a 41% chance and BP just has them with a 19% chance. The Mariners, the team were about to talk about fan graphs higher on the Mariners to the tune of almost 20 percentage points. Also the rangers, though, about 20 percentage points fan graphs is higher on cardinals, 18 points raised 13 points, braves 13 points and White Sox, the other team that we're going to talk about today about 13 percentage points. So if you thought that those projections were a little depressing for the Mariners in the White Sox, well, just get a load of the pagoda projections for those teams. And then it gets worse. It does. These are the teams that method was higher on than fan grass method by ten percentage points or more. The Dodgers. Still pretty high on the Dodgers pagoda still has the Dodgers at the top of the NO west. They have the Dodgers with a 26 percentage point higher playoff odds, but still only well, I guess in their case, it's like a 95% chance that the Dodgers will make the playoffs. It's more iffy, whether they'll win the division, then the twins, BP is higher on by about 24 percentage points. Philly's 16 guardian 16 angels 16 Yankees 15 and the brewers and Astros 11 percentage points a piece. So it's not like enormous differences we're talking about 2025 percentage points at the max. So there's a general large agreement I would say. Yeah, I mean, I think that mostly mostly been this goes to show Craig's pro Dodgers bias. You know? Stickiness thumb on that scale. You'll notice, didn't do that for the Mariners of the old fire grass no. Yes, you were the impartial unbiased managing editor in Craig is just putting his thumb on the scale over there. Yeah, the differences in terms of World Series odds between the two methods. So the World Series adds obviously no team has super high chances to win the World Series. And so these differences are going to be smaller, but biggest difference in terms of a team that fan graphs is higher on than BP. It's the braves, 9.3 percentage points. So that's a pretty big gap. The fan graphs play off ads and projections. I think that the braves are the best team at baseball, right? Or at least we'll have the most wins. And then the Padres, fan graphs is higher on about 5 percentage points higher, which is in line with what we were saying about BP still being high in the Dodgers. And then the raise about four percentage points and the Cardinals, three percentage points. So those are the teams that fan graphs likes better than BP. Mariners are next at about two percentage points higher for fan grass. And then on the other end, teams that BP is higher on Dodgers again, 8 percentage points higher World Series ads for BP followed by the Yankees at about 5, the twins at about three, the mets at about three the Astros at about three, and then the guardians and the Phillies rounding to two. So yeah, I guess the Dodgers Padres difference would maybe be the biggest one comparing the two systems.

"A fabulous team score 5 runs. Robbie Grossman. I love and the braves have taken the lead. I don't believe it. So they come in the dugout, right? Having blown this big lead and their trailing 7 6 going into the bottom of the 9th inning and the here comes this kid because he's still just a kid he's the youngest guy in that Clubhouse in that dugout and he simply just kind of says we're going to pick each other up here. You know what I mean? We're going to win this game and then Julio comes up in the bottom of the 9th inning and hits a 117 mile an hour exit velocity that I hope no one got hurt out in the stands. There you go. Left field. We're going to time again. Julio baby what a moment. Time bomb game at 7 7. On and he hurt that pitch. So he ties the game and then who NEO Suarez won it. But this kind of gets back to his infectious personality and the guys really believe in him. And again, he's been in the big leagues for 6 months, but you know, I think he represents the best of all of them in many ways. And I think the guys saw that and just understood that, hey, we're going to pick up our teammate here who gave up these runs and we're going to win this game and lo and behold they did. And you know, at some point this year when we look back on this season, however it ends, we'll look at this moment as being a key moment, not a turning point. I mean, these guys have been good for a while now, but kind of a key moment where you really could start to believe that, yeah, this is really a special group. Rodriguez, he's clearly got some leadership ability at the young age of 21. And you mentioned this already. But it seems like he's got a pretty dynamic personality because he had his own YouTube show called vibin with Jay rod when he was still a prospect. Right. Hello. This is my show. Today, I will have my first episode of my first guest with all my good friends and the team and Flacco, Lauren Gilbert. Thanks for having me on Julio. We're going to have some fun. Yeah, we definitely want to have some fun today. So how would you describe his personality? Can you elaborate on his personality and his role in this Clubhouse? Yeah, and I'll tell you a quick story tiff. I met Julio for the first time in the fall of 2018. Or maybe it was the fall of 2019 anyway. I went down to Arizona and met him for the first time. And he's 17, 18 years old. And he had been at their Dominican academy. And he really devoted himself into learning the English language. And when I met him, he wanted to do our interview in English. It was really important to him. And he was really good. He did really well. And then afterwards, he more or less runs down the hall, and he told a Mariners staffer that he was going to cause parents to tell them that he did this interview in English for the first time. And he was just so proud, but even then he was just outgoing, fun loving, this guy always has a smile on his face, but it's not an act at all. And I'm sure there are times in his life and the big league game can be humbling, where he gets frustrated, but generally he has this sort of upbeat infectious nature that just rubs off on you. It rubs off in you as a teammate as a reporter when you see him in his smile, and I'm like, this guy's having a great day, you know? He's always having a great day. And it's just so fun to see if someone that young with that kind of personality. And just the impact it has on others. Well, Corey, next up, as we look at the formula for the Mariners success, you also wrote recently about the impact that this team's pitching staff has had on their success, both the starters and the relievers. So can you tell us about that? Yeah, I tell you what, if there is a singular reason why the Mariners are 18 games above 500 on their way, hopefully to the playoffs, it's their pitching. You know, they had a nice group coming into the year. They added Robbie ray last December before the work stoppage that kind of solidified the group. And then they brought up George Kirby from the minor leagues in May and he has been fabulous just really, really good. So now you're looking at a rotation of Robbie ray, Luis Castillo, who they got from the reds at the trade deadline, a huge pickup, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, Marco Gonzalez. This is for my money, probably one of the top three rotations in baseball. And you back that up with a bullpen that is just as good. So yeah, they're aware they are because of their pitching. And I tell you what you could have the most dynamic offensive lineup in the world. And we saw this this past weekend with the braves. Again, who I think are really, really good. But if you don't have the pitching, if you don't have the starting pitching, you don't have the bullpen. It doesn't matter at all. You're not going to be playing in October. And so it's been there pitching that's really carried them this year. Well, as of Tuesday, the Mariners are 5th in Major League Baseball in team ERA. And one guy who has been coming up big for this rotation lately, as you mentioned, is George Kirby, who they only drafted a few years ago in 2019. So what kind of impact has he made? And what makes him so effective? Well, you know, to he almost made the team out of spring training, it was basically between him and Matt brash, who won the 5th starter spot, had some struggles and went to the miners, and that facilitated Kirby coming up from double-A, but they always envisioned him as being a part of this rotation. He played at Elon university and just a supreme strike thrower. You know, in a day and age where command can be so volatile in the big leagues. This guy is just fabulous. He just peppers the strikes on. It ends at 24. 24 consecutive strikes thrown by George Kirby to begin the ball game. First pitch the message. It's a fastball just missing away. It is arsenal of pitches are very good. He's added a two seam fastball here this summer that he's now throwing a lot, which is unheard of for a guy to add a pitch mid season and see so much success with it. So he's been really good. He's 24 years old. And I think with Logan Gilbert, who was a rookie last season, you really have some cornerstones for this rotation for years to come. So it's been a lot of fun to watch George, you know, he's running into some innings, workload issues. You know, this is the most he's ever thrown at any level, but I tell you what, he has just been fabulous. He threw a gem the other day against the brave. Two, two pitch. Counting. He's dealing tonight, folks, half a dozen strikeouts, 12 consecutive retired 16 of the last 17. It's a George Kirby night with a lot of help from Sam so if this guy, if his tank is fast approaching empty, it's not showing. Now you also wrote recently about some unsung guys who have played a big role for the Mariners this season. And specifically we want to focus on two position players. You highlighted utility man Sam haggerty and catcher Cal rally. Both of these guys have spent time at triple-A Tacoma this year. But as you wrote, they helped save the Mariners season. So can you tell us how? Yeah, I tell you what, this was for this wonderful season as this has been for the Mariners. I remember there was a day tiff. I think they lost a day game to the a's. And I think they may have been 29 and 39 at that point. And I think everybody's kind of trying to objectively look at this team and figure out why they were struggling. And there was no really no reason. They just weren't playing well. But during that time, Sam haggerty stepped up, he's a utility guy. I think he's

All right, dick, the Orioles and Mariners went to the 8th inning all nodded at nothing a piece and then things got crazy in the bottom of the 8th, this Seattle Mariners now in front to nothing as the oath would have a couple of sloppy plays there was a bad play at first base that would get runners on the corners at first and third and then a hit to deep outfield center field to the wall didn't make the play at the walls so it ends up being two run hit and it is a two nothing lead for the Mariners now in the top of the 9th inning, tough break there for dean Kramer, his scoreless inning streak up to 18 and change, but 7 scoreless frames, not enough for the win here tonight. "Well, the Mariners. That means fans would need to show proof if the team makes the playoffs cracking begin their first season later in October, so that means all home games will have that requirement. Official CDC issued vaccine card or a photo or digital version of the card will be accepted. The county executive's office calls these non essential businesses and other venues. So think bars, restaurants and retail but not grocery stores, among others. The press release from the county doesn't use the word vaccine passports, But it says by October, people would have to verify if they've been vaccinated in order to get inside those places. You don't wanna fall off and you get that taken care of. And obviously he did a little bit more than shored that up so balanced does matter not only at the plate but on the pitching mound correct. Yeah you lose balance you lean back in and you're trying to lean forward a little bit so you you're in that better athletic position to to make a move a and that's what he does. He gathers everything he's leaning forward just a little little bit whereas wait out over the the balls of his feet where he can he can kinda spring forward athletically. And it's just like you're you're you're saying is How do i get athletic and directional that's going to allow me to repeat things over and over and have the same release point. Yeah much more explosive position to no question about steve. Let me let me look ahead for just a second. I'm asked you this in knowing what you see today. I don't know how it's going to work the next forty games what you see today and i know career is a priority. I i get that but what is going to be. Let's say korea is gone or if you want to say here what's going to be the number one priority not named carlos correa or that position this off season number one priority question. I would say. I would say you always have to add another pitcher too. I mean i. I don't ever. It's so cliche to say you can't have enough pitching but high end pitching you know for for this astros saving you look at the division seattle's getting a lot better. The angels will be better next year. Oakland will always be contenders in the foreseeable future. And i think they're going to need another high end. You know stud type pitcher at the top of their rotation just to just to bolster their rotation number one but also as insurance Because you gotta be super deep to be contenders these days In this american league west. I think it's gonna be four. V after the next couple of years and who knows on the rangers get to be contenders again but if the astros wanna continue to be playoff contenders i think they gotta go out there and get another High-end rotation piece. Yeah ways away. But i just was curious because you see it every day and everybody's always looking forward and we're also looking forward to a postseason. Hopefully a long run in the postseason for these astros all right but at home tonight home. Cook and royals should be fun. We always appreciate your insight and we look forward to one of these days. "And you know what what the i think. Just what the reaction in the pacific rim and if he were here doing this in seattle it would it would be so off the charts explosive unbelievably incredible. And i think the fruits and the finances and the money would come flowing in with that would allow for more spin. I have a hard time saying. Yeah in logan gilbert. I think would be here regardless either way. He was there pick based on what they had done the year before. So i know this was the push. And i know it was the impetus to tear the wall down. So i don't want to minimize that Almost by losing him gave you them on that legal pad the okay so right correct also not just those guys at the top of your your systems entire truly invested in the whole thing and i don't know i'm torn i. I like the position. The mariners are in better than the position. The angels are in right. Who do you think is poised to be better over. The course of the next five years i think the mariners do. That's tough angel systems such garbage. They had to fire so keep going back in history. Mariners decided to hire jerry dipoto. Who's the other top candidate for the job illegally up ler billy up ler signs of the angels instead. He's already out of a job because such a lousy job in anaheim. The angels farm system is garbage their roster outside of the two best players in baseball is garbage. Their pitching staff is garbage garbage. They just have to great players and the rest of it is complete and utter trash. Except for fletcher just kills mariners kills the mariners. You'd like eight. Of his twelve home runs in the big leagues of all against the mariners. Sunday like and fletcher's driven in every right or the angel settled down dude just so an individual future over the angels future we know. A single individual cannot elevate in. Lift the tie of dysfunctional organization in baseball like again and football that a single innovative pitcher and a hitter in the best in the league at both yes. We know that can't be done. We watch mike trout. They're right within kathy war over the last decade. That's men it's still think two of the best players in baseball might might at least get you going but give me otani and give me then jerry and scott and there i and their development given any mckay and everything else that were seen. Yeah i think. I'd i'd still. I don't eat the guy like you and how do you do Because ultimately he had a choice to make an ultimately he went with trout and in la and everything else and that market really bad choice but man was. It wasn't a terrible choice. No the face of baseball right now. Yeah yeah you don't think that that could have happened anywhere. I don't think that's an la thing. I i don't think so at all. I think it's a- think he was right connected to mike trout and people already ready to fun. I don't think so at all. I think it's just what he's doing so different unique compared to what everyone else in baseball was doing that that he's he people wanna put ice on it a to say it's a like a a three ring. Circus sounds negative. But i don't mean it that way like there's something unique and different that we've never seen before and that's what people are responding to. He's dominating in multiple ways than matter where he is right. This is dion sanders. Didn't matter were dion sanders. Played that matter were bo. Jackson played bo. Jackson played for the kansas city. Royals one of the smallest markets and baseball. If you were but like yeah. I think he would. I honestly don't think it has even a bit to do with where he plays if he played for the pirates and they had the same record as the angels do right now absolutely if he was doing the same stuff. Be a little weird. Because he'd be in the national league the whole pitcher budding saying like your favorite city. Saint louis be huge deal. I mean but like i don't really matters any city he's in he's he's absolutely the same monster star that he is right now. So congratulations you went to the angels. They're still bad. How's that working out for you. there you go. I don't know if you'd have harry ford because that's another high draft pick that you end up with right number twelve draft pick this year. Did you love the harry. Ford bronco dudes an athlete. He could jump our see the like sixty injured. Jump metcalf a little competition here. Mr ford not in baseball because decays terrible. Dia did you see this. The beginning celebrity off now he was trying to hit ball out of course field but he did make contact correct. He should've gone. Did you see later. Von miller laid down a bunt. Yes yeah maybe decay should have gone that route. I would. i mean you know who's a job see what was like she'd go out and play and she came up right after decay. She's like you know. Four four three youtube star. My kids know her. I saw that. I don't know how much we want to unpack about the celebrity softball. She credible tim curtin was there. He was called with his son. Not tim. curtin had a weird voice. I thought it was bev mo. I was like what excuses. They said he was going to be the coaching boys. I'm not even kidding. Wait they were serious. Owens's here welcome impersonation of both kyle likes well win. Von miller laid down the bundy..

"Well that's because marco out there in the building because we're about to have the second part of this conversation is great as those three guys have been you know conversation three and they the the last six games of the sees of the first part of the season. Anyway really you can't compete with only three serviceable pitchers starters. You got more than three pitchers marco right now is not a major league pitcher. I know he is in his history but the way he's pitching right now. Not major league. Quality justice sheffield not major league quality. Justin done hurt. Everybody else hurt. Hector cynthia i mean nice. Nice bullpen guy. But i think there's a reason he's been pitching out of your bullpen and he gave you something serviceable in three innings but these bullpen starts like. It's too often like you can do. You can get away with those over the course of a year but every five or six games. And there's nothing in teton. Nothing we've seen the best they have to offer robert. Douger the duggar family. That's not gonna do it. He's he's So what what are you sniffing out here where we lead in here. You have to something though you don't have to don't you think if you're going to compete in the second half of this year you have to bring in a starting pitcher. Yes and then. Don't you think those first three. And don't you think j crawford and and the rest of the crew in don't you think the rest of them through ninety games of said. Hey man we. We deserve the opportunity to get one more arm in here. And if justin done comes back and marco can turn it around gravy but we need another bona fide legitimate at a minimum for three or four starter in this league. Because it's not it's not like you can have too much right ever. You can have never have too much and you know because you've had so many injuries your there's almost an assumption like well. Okay the other guys are going to be fine. But we don't know what's going to happen with kukuchi here right logan gilbert's throwing mornings than he has right. I mean so like flexing. We've never seen him before this year. So we don't know what his stamina is and how deep into assembly we bullpens are incredibly fickle and they're unbelievable right now and don't get scored on and everything else into august and september. That usually changes. You gotta go. Add one to two starting pitchers seriously. And maybe you wanna kinda sof step into that and maybe not commit all the way right at the beginning. But don't you have to add at least one. If not two starters to this group in order to move them forward. I think you do so. We talked about last week with some of those options are and talked about kyle gibson. We talked about Drew smiley. I know everybody. Sort of chuckled drew smiley. Ha ha well you want both of those guys of the way things look right now now. So that's that's number three. No hell scott some arms is the rockies rockies have a few guys and i know obviously they're all stars probably gonna be way way way marquez. Too expensive but yeah. There's there's some arms around baseball. And if i'm making that point to to mr stanton and empowering jerry dipoto think this group has earned the right to give them one more arm give them a bona fide opportunities and that doesn't even have to give up your top five prospects right. I mean you can give up a guy in the ten to twelve range that maybe maybe not gonna make the big one day. I mean one is sort of the like extra piece of the paxton deal he might bring you back a guy who was maybe get. You drew smiling right. He's not going to last you. Forever is not going to be incredible. But if he got back through smiley when you part with that i would I would absolutely give that up and if it turns out that he turns into something one day. Okay fine i mean those are the risks. It's pretty clear. With how many holes the mariners roster has right now that they're not in a win at all costs by mode at the deadline. But jared photos pretty clear if they're gonna add they're gonna add to this team and it's going to be not at a cost of prospects. This is the time now when you can say we planned at some point to contend and we planned at some time to open up some money to do it and now we're going to bring on some costly veterans that don't cost prospects to get us over the hump get it done. Big picture market conditions. Right now we've got a couple of weeks right before the trade deadline from everything. I've heard nobody really wants to start selling. Nobody wants to be the first seller and set the market. Okay right so that's why this thing. Well we want someone so yeah we know it's not that we're not gonna trade them. We're just not ready to be the first ones into the pool here. And the mariners scheduled coming out of the all-star break right to the angels right to the angels. Yeah they go With the angels and then colorado oakland houston print media pretty much the deadline texas. So yeah i mean you're gonna play some teams right. I mean you're gonna find out whether or not your not in colorado which they've been one of the best home teams as obviously are and the astros sit atop you and your own division double digits above five hundred good things eventually. It's going to get easier. You're gonna play tampa new york again but there's a lot of games against texas in there. There's a bunch against kansas city. You play arizona. Who's absolutely awful. You play them for six games in a home and home right kansas city. I mean there's some really bad teams on your schedule. Left to come that you should be able to take advantage of so you got to have the horse to take advantage because what you're seeing in your rotation right now not good enough another observation brock. Your guide jp crawford's just in the middle of everything know just anything positive that happens. We've spent probably too much time talking about him so we don't need to go too deep inuit but he's just whenever you need a big but right before the haniger home run right the big grand slam. There's jp crawford just finding a way on base to preserve that thing and give haniger chance to win it. And he does the amazing pretty remarkable and i was looking at the draft that went down and i know we'll get a little bit of that as well and just hearing some of the narrative and the commentary man you look at the i sixty picks and it's shortstops catchers center fielders. It's pitchers it is all up the middle right first baseman. Good luck to you. Third baseman in there are few second baseman. I think in the first sixty picks but it is shortstop shortstop shortstop world catcher world. Pitcher world is always is in in fields. It can absolutely ronin cover ground to be strong up the middle and have jp and he was such an intriguing centerpieces so much conversation coming into the season right in. What is he going to be. This is this is. This is the make or break for his entire career. But this is for your narrative here in seattle. And for the trust that you want to gain with jerry dipoto is. They're building this thing and and looking at all the pieces and shortstop market after this season. That's going to be as hot and maybe even the earth. The trade deadline as it's ever been was superstars and big big names. He's put himself right right into that. Mix the san yep. I'm not going back down. let's go. It's fun thing my macy's in these. Au tournaments and you get to chicago and you get you know seventy courts that they lay down at the cormack center and you get to see you know right. Here's michigan. Here's michigan crossover. all right. here's the team out of miami team outta outta dallas. Here's the cow stars. Let's go let's see how you measure up and it's fun you know just competitive highest level see fit and for j p crawford in shortstop market. That is loaded with superstars who've done way more than he has. Who's back there. Baseball card is is much stronger. And there's no competition about that but for these ninety games of importance to their individual team finding another shortstop in this league. That's been just you know that transformative through ninety games for their ballclub really really list. Val good good lead into the to the last sort of big observation of the end of the first half which is love relegated rally kid phenomenon is great and i just wanna be clear rally kid much better than maple grove which is better which is better real. Genuine natural not forced completely. You know unique in came system londonderry detour. Mike you went well out of your will. I'm talking about how rally caused at the maple grow..

"Show horrible this again. And they seem to be less news today. You can actually make a pretty good show. Finals are going on still tons of good stuff going on right now but not that day man. It was it was as low as low gets. We fully ran out of things to talk about. So we'll get to the all star game here in a minute because there's some good stuff kind of coming out of that and some conversation but you know start with how the how the first half of the season ended here for the mariners broncos. I i think there's a lot of telling stuff that occurred really just in that last six games you have the two losses to the yankees and i think there's stuff to learn there and then you have the fact that that could have been it for them right. That's a pretty good like all right. We're done here. We did what we came to do right. It's like the guy or woman who gets into the presidential race because they want to like get some of their issues out there and then you know people talk about them for a little bit and then they go to like you know amy klobuchar right. I go to super tuesday. They get there. I guess i'm good but now just go endorse somebody. I'll give it up. I did what i came to do. Maybe i've got myself a spot speaking at the convention and maybe give this runnin for years. When i'm ready and that that's an opportunity to do that. I mean you get squashed two games by the yankees. Who just hit everything. Beat the guy that supposedly your ace and you say kukuchi five runs in the first couple innings. Let's go home those fun. We gave it a good run. Let's call up the kids and see you later. Competing was fun but instead they come out the next day. Logan gilbert dominates a very impressive lineup. That was hitting on all cylinders just the day before and the day before that and the next thing you know you win three straight you find. Drop the last game before the break and we can talk about why that happened. But what another incredible just Ability to stick to it not give god love that element of this team. It felt in just just in twitter and social media circles and just hearing here we go again right just that it just felt in that. First game against the yankees. You just get your doors off as you said with coochie. Oh my gosh you're supposed to be the stopper chef mad again. Just f sheffield not not again. Please please not a in there right before the you know all this. You build me up only let me down and all of that narrative you just kinda kinda sense that you kind of felt maybe at least i did is not that i went looking for it but maybe i was going to happen but it was definitely out there cynical mariner friends of mine that have just been this road for a couple of decades now and you thought okay. Here's the one in five home stance you know all the ground you got about five hundred. You're going to be now back at five hundred you're to be six seven games out the yankees are gonna pass you in the wildcard. All of it right you just to that sense and then as you said logan said not on my watch i'm gonna out eight. I'm gonna walk zero totally. Shut this crew down through seven innings. I'm gonna take care of the angels and the biggest superstar and all of sports right now or certainly a baseball and and we're going to win that series. You're going to split it. Go five hundred going to salvage it and feel pretty good about yourselves going into this so a couple of things. There's maybe four or five conversations that come out of those five or six games. So let's see if i can run through a few of them. The first is art. Yes you finally get your win with logan gilbert in game three but i would argue that the way you handled game. Two of that yankee series ends up leading to the next few games you get down as you mentioned in the five o. Whole early with kukuchi. You just doesn't have it and yet. And i'm i'm gonna talk about him in a minute because i think there's a conversation there but i'll give him credit he obviously didn't have as good stuff. His velocity was off by a few. Ticks isn't as command cetera et cetera. And he's still gives you five right now. That's not a great day. Gave up five runs in five innings going to hurt the era. He didn't play the stop or roller or anything like that. But he didn't give you two and then get knocked out of the game and now you're going full then in the second day in a row you got you through five and then credit cards. The which doesn't give up runs anymore. Right does their thing to kind of keep you in the game and you battled back. That game came down to the final battle. The game they won run game now. They couldn't do anything against some pretty good Relievers that the yankees have but once again the fight in this team just not give up and quit even down five nothing in the second innings of the yankees like no. We're going to keep battling we're going to keep scrapping and they get themselves almost back to two tying or winning the game and i wonder if that's enough to carry through to the next day. Well what's beautiful about baseball. And i think what i have learned through these journeys of one hundred sixty two games. Mike is is to your point. Right there kukuchi getting through five and at least saving some gas in the tank. What role did that play. Maybe not necessarily the next day is logan nails but in the series against the angels like you just never know how to completely measure that until you know. It's in the rear view mirror but there's no question about it that you know him sucking it up and in him badlaney and giving you five and and just at least saving some of those innings. Some of those pitches some of those arms so you could use them and when you didn't need them over the weekend to to as you said continue to be nails so that's one to kukuchi. We can't talk about having into that. Okay is he the stopper and he'd be an as you get you get beat around the day before. Twelve one sheffield's pert bad. Whatever whatever you want to describe his start as it it was it was really eye-opening in a negative way. All of the above. Yeah for for a guy that i really had high hopes for this year and kikuchi. You're all star is just been named to the all star team his first start coming off the all star naming and he lays an egg right now. Maybe he's hurt. I know he had some stomach issues right and he went on the i l. for a couple days maybe cova protocol and trying to figure out exactly not going to pitch in the all star game but that's a tough start for a guy that you're saying. Okay you're the ace. You're that you're the you're the top guy on this team right. You wanna get paid the big bucks next year. I'm not saying that this means you don't pick up the.

"Or you can what he's talking to me and then i came over and not enough time. I guess sharing time with with with guys and he's been fantastic fortnight for me to come over like he's been three years ago when i came over amid poll. Understand what you guys. And i'm very sorry for you i. It was a shock for me before the reasons. Because i wasn't that close to him but him stevie represented something. When we were young. We can even touch. I want to welcome in donaldson who has been writing. Pull mariners photography. I suppose you knew already considering all those people. You've been reaching out to to compile this book what a loved man pool mariner ause since we put in the front cover on social media. The number of people have said women forward by ian gillan of deep purple. But that was one of these best powells. And i got the message last night done when i was writing chapter twelve of the book and i was absolutely laughing because chapter twelve is music. It's his relationship with ian gillan deep purple one of the biggest bonds in the seventies despondent and got back together at knebworth in one thousand nine hundred eighty five. I dig back. So mariner was invited ian gillan to drink whiskey. And the motorhome. Before hines with teddy brute children russell osman so then they went to the stage and they sat down beside the stage and there was no one sitting in this place that they sat so the three decided. They would sit there as well. They were sitting on ten thousand pounds worth of fireworks. Which would have taken out. Seventy five thousand people was palmar. You've reached out to a lot of former teammates and people that knew him. Well mark and and i imagine what you're hearing the voice describing the studio is stories that you've heard from everyone around the world. Yeah you know what the funny thing is done. Most of the stories. I've had spoken over forty different. People still got more people to speak to. Bowl is at the end of all the stories. Those always want. Oh by the way. We haven't really spoken much about football or yeah. Let's talk about that. But the boys i mean it was getting teary. I've been not you've been like not all day. It's gonna harder today. Even though we knew what was coming and his partner vowel. who. Obviously i'm liaising with with regards to the. The boo had getting contact numbers and video. The things she sent me a full two on medwick. It was wednesday when paul was. He's hospice beds. What's in the england game. And they'd put one of his england shots on him and there's a photo of him with vile with georgia on and with his mum. Peggy who's inter- early nineties and paul's a smile on his. That was the last full to. They took a poll. Modern are on. He's he's going to two ways and it meant the world to me everyone else. I just hope that when this comes in a couple of months time that it can do him justice because was story. This guy has got to tell. I've just got to tell well for him. And i might that as well thank you very much. I want to bring in alexis. New nice to the shy was well who is so close with poop alexis basically when you moved to connecticut developed this incredible relationship with him yet. I mean shaq called me earlier. When of course the news broken and i mean he didn't even have to say anything just immediately broke down because i think to know paul marano was truly to love him and you know everyone used to say that. You're so lucky. You have a co worker. That's like a father figure to you. And i used to tell people he's honestly my sixty eight year old best friend. He was truly such an amazing person to meet you know. I'm very thankful that. I got to see him last week. And we were still you know cracking bonds as much as he could talking about how frustrated he still will forever be With arsenal how proud of this england setup he really is and that he's still tunes into the show. Espn afc no matter what you know. He absolutely loved us. All there and i know that we loved him so much on one of the things that i've really been taken aback with is the fact that people on social media have reached out to each one of us and especially me and said that they've all commented on mariners chemistry with each and every one of us not just me of course i was constantly posting him. But i think that that's something that you know. I was talking about something. You can't fake something you can't buy. There was definitely a special reason. Why is seemed like mara's got on with pretty much anybody that walked into that. Espn studio and one thing. That i will always remember for him. Is that in this job. You know we we talk about football so much. We're taught to be really objective journalists and whatnot and sometimes after years and years of doing that it can nullify or neutralize your passion and your love for the game. You just watch it as just another game and mara's never did that with the sports. He always showed his passion for any team. He used to play for whether it was ipswich whether it was arsenal. Whether it was england you know he always had such passion and i think that that's something that i will forever remember. It reminds us of how lucky we are to be doing. What we're doing your reminds us. Why football release the beautiful game and it reminds us that you know. It brought us all closer to paul. Mariner and i think that from this day forward. I hope we continue to do this. Show as passionately as we know marriage would have wanted us to beautifully. Said alexis thank you very much. Alexi says major outpouring on social media from a lot of offerings. Hey craig we knew. It was coming but yesterday when we lost.

Many of his players have not been vaccinated. They don't have to wear a mask he's sitting there and one hundred degree nascar fans. Yes if i'm scott. I'd be so mad like i have to wear a mask because you won't get vaccinated unvaccinated. I don't know said take massgov. Brock i gotta tell you i agree with you on this and i know it's going to surprise you i agree with you have been. I've been vaccinated this. If i have no issues being in a room with somebody who hasn't been now. If those same people were going to be going into my kids school. I might have an issue because my kids haven't had an opportunity to be vaccinated but if but everyone who's in an. Nfl building is over. The age of twelve has had that opportunity. I don't mind the fact that the other. Let's call them thirty percent. I don't know what the numbers let's say it's thirty percent that of choosing not to be vaccinated right if they want to take that risk. I'm fine with it as long as they're fine with the repercussions of it. Yeah right like i mean. That's a choice that has been made. I'm totally one hundred percent. Good with people making their own decisions about their own life. So i've chosen to go the path that i'm going to go seventy percent of the of the. Nfl is likely going to do the same thing. once i've evacuated pretty safe like i mean isn't that the whole point of this isn't that you've got to get to a critical point right you've got have enough people vaccinated for the work and let me so there's some there's some things that have any percents point that's been throwing natural immunity through about it. I just i don't honest. i do not understand. I can't wrap my not even dig into the politics and the divisive nature all. I'm just trying to wrap my head like okay. Peyton and all those other players are vaccinated. What do you care if that player that that may have natural immunity by the way. What argument in brooklyn you say natural immunity. You're saying because you've had virus develop you've had no. They've developed the antibodies through getting the virus. Which is me and my entire family and test to show. That and i have natural long lasting durable. Antibodies test. force you have that. why why. Why ostracize though again. I don't care whether you have bodies are not do i that you have antibodies or not. Here i do. I care that i've been vaccinated enough other. People have been vaccinated. That i feel safe okay. I don't really care what anybody else does. I'm not here to force anybody to do anything. If you don't wanna get it don't get it. I don't care. But like jon rahm have to deal with consequences from that right and ultimately those rules will probably soften here in the next few weeks and months. We're getting awfully close to that happening. Jon rahm understood the risk. He was taking by the way he handled it like a throw. And it's a reason. I was psyched for him last week. Like i'm not mad at jon. Rahm for not getting vaccinated. I don't think he's stupid or anything else. He made a an educated decision. Made the price for it. He handled it like an adult and a professional and they went back out the next week and one good for him. You know great. For jon. Rahm only argument i could make here is if i were an nfl team. I would say well you play for me. I pay your contract. Your your exhibiting risky behavior mckim to not wearing a seatbelt. And i'm just making an argument that an nfl team would make akin to not wearing a seat belt. Or you know. Dangerous skiing in the offseason. Whatever the sort of things that are already in contracts your maleek mcdowell linguis- you're deciding to go jump on atv without a helmet and if you get truly sick and end up missing games and or seasons from this i want to pay you for it. Because it's your choice to do it now. If the if players would stipulate that would you be like would you be okay with stipulating that if the players were then not forced to mask up and then stipulate if you get the flu and something that we have had for decades and players say different right. They're gonna say that. There is a specific vaccine for this that somebody is choosing not to take and if and that's fine but if but if me the team in this case the paying entity the management is forced to pay out money because of a choice that someone else's made not willing to pay the money for that sorry and i think a number of those players aren't would say fine like ninety nine point nine nine nine nine nine percent of us. Don't you think that should be the solution of this. Yes yes okay. You just came up with a solution by being somewhat reasonable. We have we you. And i have a hundred eighty degree. Different views on cove on the vaccine on management on life and politics religion. You name it. You and i disagree on yes and somehow in five freak and minutes you and i were able to come up with a conclusion that satisfied both of us correct. Correct forget it together. Nfl this shouldn't be that hard broken. I did it for our next next to write off. Got the ncaa question was a big nice primer. That we haven't finished brockton quite done now taking us twelve years. It's obviously more complicated than kovin. rum does win the us open then. Then that's a story. But i was just thinking about how every other star faded right. You're watching on sunday. Come hurry.

"Of feeling yes and save for me. Randy johnson has like just such a special place in my heart. I feel like you can't leave him off because like i said the role that he played on that team in those playoff runs like he was a twenty game winner in ninety seven when the mariners made the playoffs again he was an all star that season he was also an all star. Ninety three ninety four ninety five won the cy young award ninety five and like he didn't strike fear or king felix did not strike the feared two batters. That randy johnson did. Hey now that's that's the one hundred percent true. There's because again. Are you with that. Because i feel like with with king felix a nervousness of you. Know what's gonna come but you still can't hit both randy johnson. This guy might have a screw loose. I don't know where the ball's gonna come. He probably doesn't know where it's going to come. And i don't know if it's going to be one hundred. Three mound are fastball over. It's going to be in ninety. Nine are slider. Yep you know so like there was like a physical fear put into batters that very few other patriots have had course of over the course of a lifetime. He threw his first. No no in nineteen ninety cy young award winner ninety five and four thousand. Eight hundred seventy five strikeouts. That's strikeout nine of ten point six. Yeah he also had one thousand nine one thousand four hundred ninety seven walks which is pretty good for a guy with those kind of control issues and you know just shy at seven feet tall. Yeah yeah that was. One thing that i thought was funny that that yes the ball is coming out of his hand at one hundred plus because he's stepping halfway to the to the plate and he had he had a unique motion. You know a lot of guys have their arm at ninety degrees when they throw but he had that three quarter arm slot cocked. Where was yeah. Yeah it was like a sling. Coming out of there where yeah especially. Since armor so long for left handed batter the ball is starting four feet behind. You then have to swing back across the plate. Everything feels like it's coming at you at that point. Yeah yeah so as long as mustaches. And his mullet. That moore was males. But he just wouldn't been stockcar. That's the only difference. Exactly exactly the one problem. I have with randy. Johnson is that he went into. And i don't blame him for this. He went into the hall of fame as a diamondback as an arizona diamondbacks and you know he. He had good years in arizona. He won a world series of the diamondbacks. So i totally get that. They always wish that he had gone in as a mariners because he had he was so dominant in those years. But you know i can. I could see it because he was one. Two three four five time all star with the diamondbacks last time was when he was forty so it is what it is whatever. It's fine he's he's my he's the fourth guy. My mount rushmore. That's pretty good man i. I can't argue with you As far as not picking king felix. What i can do is tell you that you've left out. Arguably the most important personality in the entire franchise off your mount rushmore. Oh.

"That was like two weeks. It's like the last month of the season in chicago. A lot of people forget about that number seventeen with the white sox playing right field at the agent. What do you think about. It tells you your thoughts on the kid. Well so i mean you hit the nail on the head transcended baseball. You know the iconic backwards at the most beautiful swing. We have ever seen to date. I don't know of anybody who has kind of them. And cody bellinger. You could see kind of tries to mimic it. A little bit One time i noticed. His stance is very similar to griffey's He's changed it up since then His swing is a little bit in that direction. But i think that might just be. Because he's a lefty But i think you can see. There are some inspiration drawn there which is obvious. You know the kid who grew up in an mlb clubhouse but i mean griffey had influence over an entire generation of fans the only other guy can think of who had that kind of influence was michael jordan and their contemporaries playing in the midnight in the nineties early two thousands for sure their contemporaries and and you know as like my you know every day every kid playing baseball wanted to be like griffey And you know one thing that. I don't know how well known. This is about. His influence on the game is that griffey is his approaching. Bud selig is the reason that a they have. Jackie robinson day where everybody wears number forty two and also the reason. The jackie robinson's number is is retired across major league baseball. That's right ken. Griffey junior had that idea brought it to bug the but see like and it was executed. So i mean more than just on the field he i guess that's mostly on the field. But across the entire game that he understood the importance of jackie robinson his life and the league and he felt like it was important enough that everybody should understand that. And i think it's great. I thought when. I heard that i thought it was amazing. Somebody who cares way more about way more things than just himself because it could have been easy for him to be selfish his entire career. Oh for sure you know and you can argue that there were times. Be everybody's got to be selfish at some point you know. When he asked out of seattle we saw the junior documentaries because he was miserable he was. We wanted to be with his family. And i can't fault that especially especially being a dad you know but you know this the impact that he had on my favorite team growing up the i. I've spoken to people over the last few years. It's like i don't know why honestly if you didn't grow up in the pacific northwest. Why anybody be manners fan and the same answer. Every time is i grew up watching griffey like there. You go there you go well. Any japan You know what. I mean any any. Yeah all of the ten all star teams. That's transcendent right there. That's that's how you become a fan of griffey if you didn't grow up there in any way. Green griffey jr wins. He just as a winner wins all of the things that you can win so the gold glove every single year. He was in seattle. Is exactly he wins. All the things you can win. it's the thing does. Yeah yep absolutely saved baseball in seattle. I mean we can't..

michael jordan jackie robinson chicago griffey cody bellinger Griffey two weeks Jackie robinson one thing japan Green griffey jr pacific northwest every single year forty two seattle ten all star Bud selig nineties last month major league baseball
