E G, O K also just received for my friend office Schwartz. That's from the intercept a haven't read it yet, but it is definitely worth checking out. Very right wing publication amazoNcom, apparently offered a job to a Pentagon official involved in one in a ten billion dollar contract that they were interested in. Sounds potentially illegal to me. Anyway, we are back with a guest, they'll call caller, Stephanie, Hamill, you mentioned that you've been looking at this question. The big news is the tariffs. The president has imposed five percent with Mexico, unless they sort out the legal immigration, and it can increase according to the commodity chief already Mexico's sending a team to negotiate with us. So it looks as if that shook them a little bit. But you've been talking to people who you would think would not be supportive of this, but who told you very different story. You've you've been talking to, to him, so I reached out to the mayor of Yuma, Arizona. It's a border city, I used to live there for two and a half years covering a lot of border issues. And I just wanted to see how things were going. First of all, he had declared an emergency back in April. He needed help. He said, this is a city of around two hundred thousand people, it's military city, that's kind of the biggest industry if you will, they have the Marine Corps station, there, the navy's out there in L, centra, which is California. But it's like. Right nearby. So he was telling me that they see an handle around a thousand people every three days. Yeah. Asylum seekers migrants town of two hundred thousand cracked a thousand legal. That's what he told me every three days. And I'm just thinking back when I used to live there. Where would they put all of these migrants, where would they go, and this is a community where the unemployment rates at, like thirty percent hovers around there between twenty eight and thirty percent. There's a lot of poverty. I had done stories out there. I remember there were high school, kids and middle scores that would dig food out of the trash cans for the weekend because they didn't have enough food high school kid. Yeah. High school and middle schoolers would have to not all of them, but there were kids that were just kind of left behind it didn't have food at home. So they would pack up garbage food to take home for the weekend, if not they would starve, so we have Americans who that hardly have enough to eat. And so a lot of. The traffic was a lot of the strain was at the food Bank, and this community and to do all these stories at the food Bank there. And I'm just thinking, like all these Americans, like the food Bank didn't even have enough food to feed their own community react to the five percent times. I asked if he got the help of after the emergency said he got some help, but they need more health, like their community, just can't handle the amount of people that's coming through every single day. They're worried about the crime. They're worried about disease or worried about all of these other things. So I asked him, I said, what do you think about Trump's tariffs? The five percent he's like, well, you know it might hurt some businesses. But at this point, what else can the president to something has to be done? And so it's something that he would look at. And, you know, he would be okay with as long as you know, that's the only surprise you that the mayor of this town said, yes, kinda surprised me, because I thought that he would be more concerned about business, but the fact that he was open to the idea it really was the pricing and I wasn't expecting to hear that I thought he was going. Say something different. And so it was interesting to actually ask them for myself. A lot of these communities by the border smaller cities are completely ignored Nancy Pelosi Chuck Schumer these people don't really reach out. They could it and I was thinking because I was asking him about where the migrants go their housing some fair. And then some of them are being shipped off to other places like San Diego. They're going into the interior. I'm sure you heard about this people being bused into the interior whose decision was that, well, okay? So I. Thirty seconds. Border cities can't handle it all on their own. So yes, we gotta share the wealth, but I have other places where they could send Nancy Pelosi's front yard in San Francisco. Chuck Schumer's house out of California. Chop, chopper caught New York where the Clintons live plaza. We can send them all the blows, you, not a bad idea. And so, I. Yeah. But they don't want him. They're, you know, they're all about open arms, and open doors, except for when it's going to go into their front yard of courses in my backyard, I think is the phrase we have interest. "We hear a lot of stories that we talked earlier about veterans, and we hear about companies hiring vets which is cool. But in this story, Cairo ready is Rachel Belle introduces us to a local vet who hired himself. Okay. So I'm going to drop some fries into the fryer. Kyle goalie is the owner and chef of the food truck event. Chef so we like to say, we do southern California Mexican food. Kyle fell in love with San Diego style, burritos and Carney Asada fries when he was in the Marine Corps stationed in Camp Pendleton, but his road to rolling big baby size burritos was quite rough. Let's go back to the beginning of Kyle's military career. So he got deployed to Ramadi Iraq towards the end. I got blown up in a ID. And after that, I had to spend a couple of years learning how to kind of walk and talk again, and I pretty much kind of fully recovered in in the sense of having a traumatic brain injury, so broke my back in five places in my neck into. So I was in pretty rough shape there for a bit. So he came back to the states and did his rehab at scripts a head injury facility in San Diego. One of our classes there was basically introductory back into life. And one of the things we had to do was cook or prepare. Food or set tables, and I just really liked that I kinda hooked onto it and I felt good. And my wife's dad is a wonderful wonderful cook. And we started cooking and drinking beers. And the hanging out over fire just love and life. And I'm like, I can do this. I need to do this. This is wonderful. This is fun, and it just brings people together after completing his four years in the military. Kyle came back home and uses GI Bill to go to culinary school in Seattle. Opening a restaurant was expensive and kind of daunting. So he opened the vet chefs food truck with his wife, Amanda, actually met in fourth grade day before my tenth birthday. Here's Kyle sitting diagonal across the table from me and. Get rid of him the star of the vet chefs menu is the California burrito something that can be hard to find outside of San Diego. California burrito is currently size steak cheese, French fries sour cream and guacamole. But after you hit about del mar they stopped putting guacamole on. And I'm a non guacamole kinda guys. And when he says fries, he means a fist fistful of crinkle cut French fries from salting fries at least once a week. Kyle parks the truck at the port of Everett naval base, offering a discounted menu. And he hires other veterans looking to transition back into civilian life. The next step is to franchise. There's just too much of a struggle getting out of the military and getting back into civilian life. I think it's that you've been told for your entire military career.

"Farewell to our two party colleagues is never easy. Neither is seeing off a number of other colleagues beyond the Senate with whom we've had the privilege of working closely for the past few years has been treated to a great example of public service on one of its highest possible stages versus secretary of homeland security, and then as White House chief of staff John Kelly has served the president and the nation with great distinction. But this was far from the first shocker his entire career and life. I've been utterly oriented around his veep, patriotic commitment. John Kelly spent the better part of four decades in the Marine Corps stationed far from Washington. As thousands of his peers waited to be drafted into the military service. John took the initiative he enlisted then he completed officer candidate school. He earned a reputation as a loyal brother in arms outstanding leader of marines. He commanded infantry unit that capital June guanaco and Camp Pendleton he served at the supreme allied commander in Europe. And as commander of the US southern command. He took on real hardship postings. Like, the house of representatives you serve there in the commandant's liaison office. And when the call came he led marines under combat in Iraq. As his Marino. Tell anyone he leads with a competence that comes from decades of dedicated preparation. Resolve that comes from deep rooted patriotism, and he leads with an understanding as personal and painful, an understanding as could be possible about the sacrifice that our freedom. Requires? General Kelly once said to this gathering of his fellow gold star parents those with less of a sense of service to the nation will never understand when men and women of character step forward. Look danger and adversity straight in the eye and refused to blink or give ground even their own death. The protected can't begin to understand the price paid. So they and their families can sleep safe and free at night. John Kelly and his family know that price they paid at prices fully as anyone has. What is so often the case Madam President? It is those who have already given so much the most willing to give even more John services secretary of homeland security, and now is White House chief of staff reflected the values and instincts that made him such an effective leader of marines. It was only about working closely with him at his team that this congress has been able to record so many substantial accomplishments for the American people, the Marine Corps is stronger John Kelly of leadership America's better for his distinguished career of service as he departs the White House this month, I extend my deep gratitude for a job well done. President. From Arizona's unimpressive. I just want to thank my colleague, the majority leader for his comments about me, he asked if there were differences between the time that I served before this most recent time, and I must say that the thing that I have noticed. Most is the kindness with which I've been treated by my colleagues and by staff, and I'm talking about colleagues and staff on both sides of the aisle by other people that work here at the capitol, including most especially the capitol police. I never expected to be welcomed back with that degree of kindness, and I have commented that it might be nice thing if we could extend that same degree of kindness to each other every day rather than just to those who come back after a long absence, but I do very much appreciate. Your comments, Mr. leader and most especially your leadership and friendship over the years. Thank you very much. Later time. Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, followed by another Senator we take you now live to the floor. Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer is making leader time remarks. Are we in farm? We are I asked me ananymous consent. The corn be dispensed with without objection. Thank you. Madam President now with only four days remaining until laps in government funding. Democrats still not heard back from President Trump about whether he's willing to accept either of our offers to keep the government funded for that matter Republicans in congress both house and Senate have been almost entirely silent about what plan they might support to avoid to shutdown. They say they want to avoid a shutdown are Republicans in the house and Senate. They have no plan yesterday. Senate Republicans were telling reporters they had no idea what the White House's plan was or even if it had one. So let me remind my Republican colleagues and President Trump that Democrats have put to reasonable ways to avoid to shut down on the table, the six o'clock creations bills, plus a one year CR for homeland security or CR for all seven bills fund. The government knew. Neither proposal contains a single democratic demand. Democrat is pounding their tight fist on the table. And saying we have to shut down the government, unless we get our way the way President Trump is we only want to fund the government, if President Trump would accept either proposal, it would sail through the house and Senate, and we conclude the nation's business before the Christmas holiday, the only proposal that cannot pass is the president's demand for an unnecessary ineffective exorbitantly expensive border wall. So President Trump throws a temper tantrum and clings to his position on the wall. He will not get a wall, but he will cause a Trump shutdown over Christmas with only a few days to go until appropriations laps on Friday at midnight. President Trump needs to come out of hiding and accept one of our proposals to keep the government open either. We'll get a majority of votes on the floor of the house and the Senate now on another matter healthcare ruling last. Friday from the federal judge in Texas is put the future of the Affordable Care Act doubt. Every American should be aware of the fact that it's the rulings.

"Each coastal base has a relief base when we had the hurricane two weeks before the name escapes me hit North Carolina full Florence. I believe Florence. All of those Marine Corps stations. Shaw air force base in South Carolina. Seymour Johnson in North Carolina. They all have evacuation basis, which are mainly inland. You know, we we have been in a vacuum. Asian base at willow grove for the navy at Oshii Enna and we've also enact from willow grove out farther, west to Ohio, etc. To get the planes safe. But no aircraft is ever worth the loss of life. And this base will get rebuilt. It will cost lots of money, but it's still a matter of lives and. The last comment was is there a cover up going on? They had plenty of time to act. No, they didn't the air force did everything they could to evacuate the important people, the wives the sons daughters, right? The bare minimum people stayed at Tyndall. Yeah. There were aircraft. I saw I saw the drone footage of the Q F sixteens in the hangar and hangers completely devastated. And all of that will get rebuilt, but I don't think Tyndall loss a single life from that hurricane which is far more important. Yeah. And in kind of amazing too. When you look at the the devastation from that hurricane. All right. Well, it sounds like when it comes to mother nature, even when we're trying to protect extremely expensive aircraft. It's it's not always possible. And. As you mentioned David there are higher priorities at times. So we may see this again, you know, with I I would change that verb. There's no may we will see this again. Unfortunately, as far as Bill Terry basis, go you wanna go places, and especially training basis like Pensacola and all the bases in Texas. You wanna be able to train and Tyndall you wanted to be able to train all year long. And there's a reason why those bases were there. The weather's good all year long most of accepting. Yeah. Well, but yeah. No. I I get your point at. Yeah. I mean, it's there's a reason why we've done what we've done there's some of the oldest basis. You know, you don't learn to fly in Chicago. And this goes for not that we. A lot of hurricanes on the west coast. But here's something probably don't realize, but Miramar Marine Corps air station. Miramar? I think is only maybe twenty miles away from the San Andreas fault. The more is almost on the San Andreas fault. Mother nature will always win. Yeah. All right. Well, sometimes you can grab control the situation yourself. Now, if you're fighting mother nature, maybe not so much but moving to another avoir story. This is passenger grabs controls after pilot collapses. United Kingdom is so important to the United States, and what a huge difference cooperation between like minded people in Washington and Westminster can make insecure in that outcome when I lost weight you out lined the democratic mandate on which Brexit stands at the two thousand fifteen general election. The conservatives promised that if elected they would hold a decisive in or out referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union. The party was returned to government with an increased number of votes and seats in the house of Commons when that referendum was held in two thousand sixteen seventeen point four million people voted to leave the e u. More than have ever voted for any issue political party in British history. This was a decisive vote to leave but did not specify the precise. Details. In her speech at the house in January twenty seven to the prime minister gave the detail what leaving would look like she said, we do not seek membership of the single market full customs union. Membership prevents us from the chasing own comprehensive trade deals. We will take back control of and bring an end to the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice. At the twenty seventeen general election. The conservatives rear pledging that and of course, again, as we leave the European Union. We will no longer be members of the single market or customs union. The policy won more votes than any party for twenty five years, the labor party also endorsed leading the single market and the customs union so that eighty five percent of the overall votes cast at the election for parties to define Brexit as leaving leaving the customs union and leaving the renewal of the European quarter Justice the principle remain party, a Liberal Democrats actually saw its numbers of four. Since then. The government has published its most disappointing checkers agreement setting out his proposals for the future UK, you relationship. This document, however fails to deliver the conservative Brexit manifesto pledge in anything but name even only oppose and I quite by Michel Bunia, a former president of the Dutch customs association. Has expressed his dismay the plan. Does not even explain how cross-border value added tax would be handled. It is completely unacceptable, and I will vote against it. The paper proposes that the UK remains as if quite combined customs territory with the EU alongside a commitment to quite a common rulebook for trade in goods, including agrifoods. This would see the UK collecting tariffs on behalf of the EU and worse still bound to European rules on all goods, including food and agriculture products. The common in common rulebook is a complete misnomer. It is nothing, but the European Union rulebook over which the UK will lose its right to vote. Once we leave. We will not even help to draft the roads. The checks agreement accepts that accepts but meekly states that we should be consulted as European rules. Are changed sovereign state me being consulted on the rules imposed upon his would not be taking back control. We're told the parliament. We'll have the ability to reject further changes you law yet. Check is also says that the UK will quote, commit by treaty to ongoing harmonization in areas covered by the EU rulebook, parliament's suppose, it independence comes on the condition that the EU can impose consequences should MP's ever. Have the temerity to exercise this, right? Leaving us as a permanent rule taking supplicants without any practical chance of amending the laws third imposed upon us. British Conservative Party member Owen Paterson crucially accepting the terms of checkers would severely impede the UK's ability to strike new trading arrangements. Around the world and seven brace. The chief economic opportunities of Brexit that is obviously bad news for UK. But he don't say bad news for the United States. To see why consider the existential battle currently being played out across the world. The battle of ideas competition, lead capitalism and state led intervention. Between competition and cronyism, our enemies apology, and wealth destruction. I believe that wealth can be created or destroyed. I believe it is more difficult to create is to destroy. I believe that competition exercise by a free people based on the quality of their ideas and a capacity for hard work is the greatest force mankind has ever known to create it. "The birth of your own children former mayor of indianapolis greg ballard spent twenty three years in the marine corps stationed overseas during the gulf war in the early nineties later on when i did get married to winnie i she was in san clemente california my first duty station was camp pendleton and on the north end of camp pendleton is implementing so we she worked at the bank and we met there but when you talk about sacrifice it you do leave your family quite often particularly in very difficult circumstances and then after that and then you come home and that's that's great coming home obviously i came home with bill i did not go come home to a big party that you see sometimes i got home about two or three in the morning along with my intern came home and and kids were there unfortunately son did not know me again talk about sacrifice my my daughter kinda recognize me she was about three and my son is about to but he didn't only so that's that's hard rusty night was in the navy and thousands of miles away from his home in indianapolis we're back home he was dating a girl named kelly you decided while he was in boot camp he was going to propose to her so he'd be able to take her with him as his wife i think what actually drove me to want to do that was because i loved her and i loved what i was doing at that time even though it was part of boot camp and it was the roughest time because you're trying to make that transition to a young man into a man but having her and packing her up and moving her out to california and obviously going overseas with me i just wanted her to be with me because once you go into duty you don't know if you come back home or not but it makes it a lot easier when you know you got somebody waiting on you and i think what the combination of being in the service and being far away from my wife was kind of the reason why we've been able to stay together for so long because there's sometimes you can talk to people that don't quite understand what you're going through and the sacrifices that you make having someone that you love and they love you and kind of made a just a little bit easier gina napier didn't leave her entire family behind when she enlisted in the army her twin sister veena decided to sign up and her they had the system and we were back nate's everybody's out of their element is new tier you feel stressed you've got to do all this stuff is coming in hollering at ya you like i don't know what to do but he has some kind of guiding has mytalk twominute does make it easier it's just it's a different lifestyle they you know you just the way i looked at it and one thing that really kind of that kind of got me through it was that old song by tears for fares.
