"People and the one of the big debates I think we need to have is a nation is like Do we call those people extremists, You know, do we call them? Do we call them part of that extremist movement Because certainly they were there cheering on and backing the people who stormed the capital last last last last Wednesday. But really, if you start to love those people, and we're talking about Tens of millions of people who believe the these kind of bizarre theories you know is what point this extremism become just, you know, a mainstream thing than a lot of people believe it's a very strange time in our nation's history. Yeah. And those are all voters. I mean, Tim, you've worked in Republican politics for a long time helped run. Um You know, national campaigns. I mean, do you feel like this was I don't know a sleeping giant that was there all along, and folks were unaware of. I mean to will's point. We saw a lot of this really explode under Obama when it came to the far right groups, but Your mom and pop pick folks. I mean, what's your sense? Look, I think it's two things at once. I think that this was a sleeping giant that people weren't aware of. And that was exacerbated by Trump and his unique Unconscionable behavior and his unique pathologies and and who he brought it to the party. I mean, look, if you if you go back to the tea party Um, you know, kind of fights of 2010 and you look at those protests. I was often times on the more establishment side of primaries versus tea party candidates. The people that turned out for tea party candidates were very much Kind of middle class people. They're older voters felt like the kind they're they're losing the country. Some of these people are all were also there on January 6th, but I think that Trump brought in, you know a kind of younger ness or white male blue collar, not college educated. Very angry about the way things were going with with society and you know, very extreme and their political ideology and and so I think that that You know, this was already you know, something was on the cusp on Gui saw signs of this. Of course. You know him. Let me just let me just get elected. I just jump in Tim for exactly what happened to all the Republicans who were for lower taxes and free trade. And you know, tough on Russia. Tough on China for there. Are they? Another were Republicans anymore? I know Marie sick. He's called me. Republican strategists like cringing because I don't know I don't want to, like, I guess technically, I don't know. You know, I'm in a transitional period. Have you left the party? I? Yeah. I mean, yes, I, For all intents and purposes I have. I think that As I said, I do think would be important to have folks that are defending people to do the right thing right now is we're going to Donald Trump Take that's important. And so you know, I'll be supportive Adam Kinzinger unless Cheney and people were doing the right thing, but for all intents and purposes, I don't see myself. Is a Republican. And I think the reality is Scott. I think that there's a there's a small remnant of Republicans that fit what you described that are out of a minority of the party now that are completely swamped by the nationalist populist, you know, a base. I think there's another group of people like me like folks it identified with the Lincoln Project that are that are for practical purposes. You know, kids in temporary alliance with the Democrats, you know, because maybe we still believe in low taxes still here we still believe in being tough on Russia and smaller government. But on the fundamental issues of Of pluralism of welcoming immigrants of the rule of law. The Democrats are the only party that believes that that is acting on these kind of fundamental American principles. And I think that a lot of us are aligning with the Democrats over that, Andre putting policy that aside and to be honest with you. I think that is how our politics are gonna look for the short to medium term. I don't see the Republican Party. Attacking back on this kind of anti democratic anti rule of law nationalist strain that was unleashed under Trump. I think that's going to continue. Yeah, well, I mean, I promise that the top we would talk about the World Post inauguration. I'm curious, like given what you talked about in terms of the increase of militias under Obama, Given what we know about the fact that there's a lot of questions about people in law enforcement either sympathizing or being part of these groups. What do you see is the kind of challenge for this new administration and for all government in the coming months and years. Well, I think the biggest mistake would be to think that because these people haven't shown up or, you know, don't show up this week that they've gone away and that this ideology has suffered some sort of a setback. Like these people, you know, they're they're They're zealots and their true believers, And there's an awful lot of them and they, you know, And they believe that Trump is president. A lot of, um you know that you can add a religious aspect in there where they believe that Trump is sort of, you know, aligned with With Christianity in her mind with God, and you know those are people who are you who are going to you know who going to just kind of go away and stop doing this? So I think if I could predict what's going to happen, I think that there's going to be a sort of An interim period where you see a lot of these groups, groups kind of go away and lick their wounds to certain extent and kind of reassess on then perhaps come back with it with a new front. I mean, I can see a situation in sort of You know, maybe April, maybe May June, where somebody organizes another Charlottesville type event, and you see, these groups really kind of come out of the woodwork again and say, Look, we didn't go anywhere and make some sort of a show of force. I don't know what that means politically, and I do think you know something that's really overshadowed the whole of this conversation. This may sound strange when we had a you know an insurrection in the nation's capital last week, but ultimately we're still talking about extremist groups were talking. About fringe groups, and I want to try and remember that it's not. It's not the majority it is not. The majority are real College of U. S A. "Your daily pep talk I know it's been rough going ever since people found out about your acappella group Matt harmony but you will bounce back I mean you're the guy always helping people find coverage options with the name your price tool it should be you given me the pep talk now get out there hit that high note and take Matt harmony all the way to nationals this year sorry recipients of the insurance company affiliates price and coverage match limited by state law am our telephone number eight seven seven three three seven six six six six Joe in Saville is with us jogo had hi Richard great show thank you Joe Derrick Coleman a quick music question do you really think that Gerrit Cole is the only astro that didn't know what was going on and does that matter well I think there were probably others I mean if you're a pitcher and you're not coming of that in your home field you probably wouldn't know right I mean no you got to other players but I don't know that the hitters you know you think the hitters with Telepictures Hey you know we're we're still in signs and we got we got a way to find out what's common they may not not every picture may have known here so it's possible yeah and they're separate groups of guns yeah yeah I mean you know in in the other thing is there there are cliques in baseball teams are players who won't even talk to other players you know they might just not when they see him in the hallway but they're not buddies or anything they don't go out to dinner together they're not all tight knit group so I mentioned there were some people that weren't aware of it but you know by and large I would say the majority of the players had to know okay okay that makes sense and the question are the big doors friend Robby Krieger so if you get enough credit for his skill on the guitar probably not probably not you know there's just so many musicians and you know we're talking to the previous caller about that they're just so many great musicians out there I I've started going to some classical concerts right and I I watch these violinists who who will play violin concertos and and and symphonies forty minute long pieces with no sheet music in front of them and I've I've been fortunate enough to get really good seats and sit close and watching them play you know fingers on the left hand fingering the strings the right hand with the ball hitting the proper string at the right time at breakneck speeds and I'm going how did they do that it's amazing you know you look at sports anything for as pretty I can hear of fast ball and hardened hit far these guys make that look like child's play which which in fact it is Jack Staten Island you're on the fan Jack Richard I'm going to talk about the list will series that just happen between the nationals in the Astros right there is is I think somebody clued in the nationals what was going on and they approach the Astros and they said stop the shenanigans and we'll keep it quiet for you because you think about it they lost all four games at home they did but do you know the nationals are incensed about this now you know you were hearing the nationals very very vocal about how mad they are about the Astros doing this so I don't know that they knew I don't think they did but look it was around baseball son who's going on here and that's why the Yankees change their signs to the point where your member century go out to the mound constantly before they pass a rule you couldn't do that right and and and geez why are the pictures in the catcher on the same page with the reason was they had complicated the signs so much to keep it from being stolen that they couldn't get on the same page well I wish to complicate or the pitching cash to communicate and spread from that I I'll never forget I'm a Yankee fan the smirk on chat with space when you don't run that could have been ironic that could have been lying to use its own investigation again I had a five I do that yeah but the thing is even if you knew it and and and you know people make in a little bit bigger deal out of this knowing what pitches calming it's one thing if you know that a change up this coming because let's face it if you've ever played on any advanced level of baseball and the guys throwing ninety miles an hour a hundred miles an hour you've got a be ready to hit that ball at that speed because you got a snap of the fingers to to to react to it that Paul is it's on you before you know it it's that hard said fast so you got to protect yourself against a fastball so when they throw a curve ball or a changeup you don't like him here comes it's coming in slower and it's moving where you know unless it's a two seamer the fast ball is going to be fairly straight right so it takes an incredible reaction to lay off that pitch or two you know followed offer just spoil the pictures opposed to you know how to get fooled here on out so I think that's that's the key so if you yes you know okay soon to it doesn't want to go to three into is gonna throw me a fastball here he throws your fastball and you hit it mediatakeout after they enter in on because there's no guarantee that you're going to be able to get good wood on a fast ball and beryl it up and hit it out of the ballpark so affected all too vague did that even if he knew what pitch was coming now there is a good know what pitch is coming in a given situation okay it's started the game is gonna throw me a fast ball to get a strike on me coming to swing at it made it out of the park well easier said than done let's go to let's go to al in key port you're on the fan al yeah Richard it's nine show you what the people talk about the music too but only talk about yesterday's nice though if you don't get offended and you just then just stick to the sports but anyway I just want to know what was the guy in dug out doing bang on a garbage can did anybody ever asked and that it's really not normal everyday garbage can in the dugout and have a guy banging on it during the game did anybody ever ask them that you know what is that going what what was Greg Greg Gardner doing bang on the roof with we headed back into the ceiling next that's the he was cast crazy I I play sports so I'm not sure I got natural born if I lose you yeah I'm crazy he was just not yet he's just a hard competitive Brecht regarded as the one thing about him he never never gives up he plays a hundred percent at ten percent every time and he just got it got a little out of hand but the guy bang on I sort of pictured by banging on the garbage in that case the I didn't hear you couldn't do it but I mean it's it was really obvious that the guy was dying and it's just I played baseball I never seen anybody emission their dugout ever really garbage can and they were banging on it you know it was it was sort of his home on the whole thing sort of in the tunnel see you could you can I mean guys sprawled on things I mean that my earliest recollection of ever gonna baseball gonna father took me to see the Syracuse chiefs and I remember in the ninth inning the chiefs are down by a couple of runs in full full more pounding on the on the stands and I guess there might have been wooden bleachers and I'm not sure exactly I was a kid but I remember that that sounds and and I think that's the thing in baseball games are there there's a lot of people would make a lot of noise and pound on that their their seats and you know those stupid follow me things of fingers with a bang out there's a lot of noise going on so if you're looking for it yeah you'll hear it you'll hear okay there's a phone that sounds like a C. hit non but if you're not looking for if not paying attention to sounds if you think looking at the picture and think okay what's gonna throw or if you're looking at the batter think he can you get this it's a big spot you're going to notice that kind of thing unless your Carlos Beltran and you see things that others don't Joe on Staten Island here on the fan Joe Asia all call it like you said with the this their Rory here now this era I mean is gonna keep going are on and on and like you say you know it's got to come to an end hopefully doesn't happen again and who knows and twenty years and now something else will happen but the point is you know like all right I bring up the role of people do are you what he did was not Laurie illegal he got there and the standard the point is all right the manager got just the manages out the general manager about Ultron's forget said Paul all horror nobody knows what's going to happen with their point is they should do is you can get the whole team how are you I really I would think it to keep for use in nobody ever care hoping when it came out the troops say we had to say I don't think it would continue as bad as it is now for me the key for use he should be suspended for the year certain key players on that team and that's it that's my opinion well I can't agree with you there I think that first of all I mean if you're listening to Rick surrounding you can do that by the way go to radio dot com WFAN app you can rewind listen to that conversation if you like the commissioner has to deal with the union and this is this is a a part of this thing where commissioner doesn't have the absolute power to do anything he wants to a player there are rules there are penalties their maximum fines are all sorts of restrictions on what the commissioner can do and if he starts going after players like you know somebody brought up well I think it was her own brought up Marie sick with the Mets now you know they sign him they needed defensive guy well what if they suspend him for two months it hurts the Max doesn't hurt the Astros it you know and and the same thing with JD Davis hurts the mats so why should the Mets pay a price for what the Astros did and reject that year of men in Davison MI Davison get that many at bats are thinking at a hundred paths that year sand and he hit what to twenty or something I mean he you know Jay Dee Davis was a gift from the gods for the Mets last year man this guy didn't have anything on his resume to make it thank I is gonna be a grill a good hitter so the fact that he turned out to be that you know even knew what was coming in two thousand seventeen didn't help him too much of hip to twenty seven or whatever it was let's go to Georgia New Jersey you're on the fan George you don't say George when I was about as close press comments about my fears and saying that he should come forward sooner and their world site series title I got a real kick that he said they wanted fair and square I just don't understand these guys that come out and say that when any defending out to right why are you are you saying up to make sure to come forward or you should have come forward I'm glad you're giving them until they came out with peace sorry apologies that really rubbed everybody the wrong way well you know I think the bottom line is whenever you hear a public apology they're apologizing because they got caught yeah if if they weren't caught they wouldn't apologize they wouldn't say anything about it they would be mom you know if they really really felt bad if it was keeping them up at night if their conscience was troubling them they say look at you know at this I can't sleep I gotta admit this we cheated in two thousand seventeen but they didn't do that they're all even when it was clear that they did cheat I mean I I gave them you know some of the players in out in two thousand seventeen well they didn't know how they were doing it they didn't know the technique now they know wrong you shouldn't have done it it was against the rules it was cheating and there's no vendor they didn't admit it until I.

S. A. N. and WFAN FM New York on the road again there's a T. C. on the road again time to talk Mets baseball with Mister Edward Coleman any how you doing Goodrich shower you pretty good pretty good not not bad at all on a little bit tired of talking Astros but this is this is the job we've chosen everybody is probably a little tighter for Cody Bollinger in quite yet so but they get office jobs but yeah well you know anything it struck me hearing that stuff the difference between football and baseball because if you want after Roger Goodell like he went after rob Manfred there would be fine so there would be suspensions there would be you know you can you're not you're not allowed to do that in football baseball I guess you know I guess the commissioners manages to take the blows and move on right I guess yeah I mean a it is getting used to it because my personal opinion is that a lot of dumb decisions on as far as changing this game but whatever that's just my personal opinion of work site okay well to to give us a little break from the Astros will get back to that of course what do you think of this stupid playoff thing I mean I even talk about it at all because it's been all Astros all the time here but this idea of fourteen out of the thirty teams making the playoffs I hate it and the second thing of choosing your opponent for the next round on TV please I mean I I don't consider myself a purist I'm open to white new ideas but to me that is several bridges too far what do you think yeah well I mean it strictly set up for TV you know they want to eliminate you have a bunch of three game series than you have better chances for women Asian Games grown curriculum the nation are you know is it the same as game seven not to me or whatever for TV that's all they care about that's why they they love the idea of the one and done all of which I always felt was kinda dumb sixty two games and then play one for awhile because it is a wild card you know the the concert is it everything is set up for TV and make more money it's not to me for the betterment of the game this simple math to me you know baseball is immersed assault and analytics for the simple map to me is this hockey and basketball play half the number of games but baseball does and they have sixteen teams each in the courthouse baseball is playing twice as many more games for season everyday play every day throughout the year for basically seven months and you're eliminating what sixteen teams okay you have fourteen specific what else makes no sense to me the math makes no sense to me whatsoever yeah and and and you know it's a values the regular season I know people are gonna say I don't know what makes it more important because teams then in July thank all we can make it so they're not going to trade players away and they're not going to tank there may be a an unintended consequence are intended thing here but I I would rather just see earn it you know it used to be two teams you know one of the American one and the national now I understand today's day and age you can't go that far but to keep just throwing guys in the place you're gonna have sub five hundred teams in the playoffs if they do this and that would be a travesty to me yeah well they've already done it in the you know the energy on the rear gate so why not join and baseball but it make the other part of it makes no sense to me and you know virtually everything that they have tried to do you know has to speed up the game as well you know and another stupid rules is the one who's going to be implemented this year with the with the relief pitcher pitching three batters let's see finished lamenting I I think that's ridiculous too but I to me it's like a speed up again you can speed up the game in other ways but not that what well that particular one doesn't bother me but we'll see how it shakes out I'm willing to see if it works if it doesn't work if you know if it if it helps but you know moving on from there you know there there's expanded rosters now twenty six and twenty eight which I think makes more sense instead of going to forty but I would imagine that I would think that the players union wouldn't love that only because there I guess are a lot of guys are going to get a chance to play in September who would have otherwise yeah and maybe you know start their Clark a little bit early I got I guess that's possible but at the same time you have to do something in that regard it was he was getting totally out of hand when you know you walked out of the bullpen in September and you've got seven left handers you can you can bring you know one each in for an hour and that you know with some managers that's what it came to so you had to do something to rectify that and that I think at least in that case you know it it made sense to twenty six man I like dating you know with the with the woman at thirteen pitchers I think it's a good idea to you know help your bench a little bit and then you know you you got to put a number on on September and they've done it any in in clarify this I should know this but is it twenty eight fixed or is it twenty eight in any given game in other words can they have forty guys eligible but only twenty eight could purchase the record I'm not totally sure that might might fall yeah that's a very good question yeah you do you might be able to have like your taxi squad you can you know double like I think it's going to be twenty eight straight but I'm not positive about that yeah because it would be you know leave it the other problem where you know you could have guys around who could you know be slotted in forgiving games but you wouldn't have the silliness of all these you know pictures coming in and all that alright well let's get to the Astros stuff at you know Marie sick said Hey look sorry they're nice apology but Davis you know I I got a nail in a little bit because he originally said now we didn't do it and now says well I spoke prematurely and Joel Sherman I think road today now you can speak prematurely you lied about it back then yeah you know you didn't tell the truth you knew that it was yeah absolutely your ability to either live but I totally agree I I thought it came up much better yesterday the JD you know JT younger but still he's old enough to know and better I think that you know the the real case here you know he he did lie in September in December shooting when they have the the Christmas the band at that time you did cooperate with Major League Baseball I thank you sorry good person I do know that will be yelled form covering on last year and I think it was a little caught up in the fact that you know he said he was star struck and I understand the Iraq August then use your product but his way through the mind of can make majors you finally because of you know does he keep his mouth shut yes he obviously did Bruce Nick as I mentioned I I thought came out much better yesterday because yeah I mean the laid out there you know he's he's in the majors since twenty thirteen is then traded from Miami Houston the was with them for a couple years had his best season in twenty seventeen and you know when he was asked about the Parker who posed with pressure from Beltran or anybody else Alex Cora if it came from the coaching staff you know about keeping quiet because of their stature or the president you know he's about junkie so I'm old enough to make my own decisions I didn't do what I regret that I'm sorry I didn't and yelled my body laid out pretty well yeah well there's a line between you know not saying anything and turning people in you know and I think that's that's the thing that's uncomfortable because there are a lot of things you see the thing okay that's wrong but my going to run this guy's career get this guy in trouble and I gonna be blackballed with my teammates because I devolved something that happened the lock from me we saw up Pedro Martinez and he you know just commend those sehr wasn't too cool what fires did so there's that feeling around so it does take some guts to to come out and say Hey yeah we did something wrong yeah I listen I I the a lot of this stems from getting caught you know does anybody say anything if total I think that the end than anything one on I mean the Astros the discipline rumored for years so you know you talk discuss dot to all the people that you know that there's something going on there that they couldn't put it down and use the park to something so there was obviously enough evidence and then finally enough evidence to you know to get caught and get on the open but at the same time you know all you can do at this point is is accept responsibility about bruising did that for the most part yesterday you know he.

"On today's announcement from apple we're joined on the phone by a reset Kendall she covers housing for the bay area news group good morning thanks for having me we just heard when apple has to say about this change of course after they've been criticized for a while now on not doing a whole lot about the housing crisis what's your read on why they're doing this and why they're doing it now yeah I think there's just been a lot of pressure mounting for all of these Silicon Valley tech companies to step up and do something to address the housing crisis the crisis just keep picking up steam housing prices have just reached unprecedented levels and there's a lot of clamor from housing advocates for the tech companies who of course have contributed to the crisis by bringing so many jobs in the region to act and I know apple has it's something apple had been working on this behind the scenes for for kind of a while and just finally brought it out into the open today X. will say you know two and a half billion dollars isn't a whole lot given how much housing prices have appreciated in the last couple of years you have any way of contextualizing that number for us does that strike you as a meaningful amount yeah you know you're always gonna have critics who say well they they could have done more they should've done more but it's a pretty large place to start from honestly I mean two point five billion is bigger than any commitment we've seen from any other single tech company it's bigger than the old Google and Facebook one billion dollar housing pledges combines and those is being very big at the time when they were in now so and and it sounds also like apple using this as possibly a place to start from the possible also see more in the future from them he said you are launching a series in collaboration with several news organizations including us here at KQED it's called who own Silicon Valley and you look through half a million property records in Santa Clara county what did you learn yeah well we we did some work to figure out who the biggest property owners were and still are come Bally Stanford was far and away the biggest owner but Google and apple where where knacks Google had seven point five billion in property and apple had just under nine billion so it also it really showed just how big and powerful these tech companies are not just with their political influence and their capacity to employ a but also with their real estate and that series launches today Marie sick handle is a reporter covering housing for the bay area news group thank you so much for your time this morning you're welcome thanks for having me support for the California report comes from Eric and Wendy Schmidt who's fun for.

"Muhammad. Also, those two that were in the same class or doing a nice job and really coming along. Well, and and then Eighty-three Eric all gonna ask you whose number eighty three was number eighty three. Well, he's just he's a mid year freshman from Fairfield high school in Ohio and. Again, he's just a freshman. But I doubt he's this guy compete till he drops, you know, is doing a heck of a job and all it took too much about it right now. Get him a big head. But. And if you doing good really really excited about him. I gotta talk about Peter Bush too tight end. That's that's doing a heck of a job. And then before I move onto the next topic. Did you notice Jordan Glasgow at all on the when you're watching? Did you watch some of the defense? All I watch is a guy yet. I mean just hair is literally on fire only way you described away play. He's become the guy that we gotta we gotta take out. You know, you gotta you gotta say that's enough. You know, you've been in there enough. He he must go about one hundred fifty apps on defense because he's he's in with the ones. He's in with the twos. He shows up in the threes. He plays will backer. He plays. Viper. And then when they go to to viper package the speed package. He's in there. He's in their starting on that as well. And they takes every every special team rep that he can take. And we've literally physically now have to to tell him. No, you're out. You might have taken one hundred fifty plays. Sunday's practice. Just I'm just on defense. Abso I wholeheartedly agree. I think you may be undershooting. And even I mean almost every play society exciting time. You know, we always go back you go back to at Stanford. We had those guys that you talk about in a meeting, and you didn't want to go through a five minute district -cation of all his qualities right because he had that many. So you just describing Baz a foot all layer layer. It sounds like he is. He is quickly or has already attained that title. Yeah. And Ben Mason, another guy, you gotta put an area. We started with the plan of of doing a day on offense and a and a day on defense. But now, we're he's doing both in in the same practice Saint kind of Saint progression. We did with Marie sick. When we made him a two way player now bench play. He's doing some some valley. He's coughing has at the three he's and coffin causing havoc. Broken anyhow at the three techniques not yet. But it's coming. It's a matter of time and playing running back and he's playing playing tight end and causing havoc on the D line. So I wanna read one twenty guys that we got we got a bunch of great tweets this week. And when there's a couple that are some really good questions that we're going to bring back next week when Jack comes back Tomba got this one tweet, and it was a question for you guys in particular for you coach is it hard for you. Go into your kids games and sitting in the stands and not being able to be their coach and being on the sidelines..
