"Tuned. WJR will keep you on top of that with Damon Clark. Meanwhile, the uncertainty in the economic recovery continues as the pandemic lingers, but A new outlook from the University of Michigan released yesterday shows the city of Detroit could actually lead the state in job growth, despite all of the setbacks. With the details are WJR senior news analyst Marie Osborne. All the outlook was done. As you said by the University of Michigan and extends to 2026, it found the city of Detroit is seeing faster job growth than the state. Overall, however, some businesses like hotels could lag behind for years. The unemployment rate for Detroit residents was 8.5 in June or about 3% below its pre pandemic level, and that compares to the state's overall 5% rate in June. Detroit's unemployment rate averaged 22% in 2020. It peaked at nearly 39% in May of 2020. The outlook anticipates total employment for jobs that are located in Detroit to recover to pre pandemic levels by the third quarter of 2022. Why? Well, the reasons are several big projects are now underway in the city of Detroit, and we can take a look at some of them here this day. Atlantis Mack Avenue Assembly plant that's supposed to bring 5000 new jobs, 3000 of them guaranteed for Detroit residents. There's the retooling of the General Motors factory zero at the Hamtramck Assembly. Planned ongoing construction of the new Gordie Howe Bridge to Canada, Ford Motor Company's New Detroit campus that's in Cork town, and that includes the redevelopment of the long bacon, Michigan Central Station. There is also the plan 2022 opening of the new Amazon distribution center at the Old State Fairgrounds that's supposed to create 1200 new jobs, ongoing construction of a new downtown building and tower at the site of the Hudson's department store. Also not mentioned in that you have them report is a plan by Lear to set up a seat manufacturing operation at the site of the former Cadillac stamping plant on the street, East side. And of course, this all means new jobs. Now, Paul, the one downbeat on this entire forecast is for slower recovery. In the leisure and hotel sectors. Employment in that category could be 10% below its pre covid level by late 2022 still 3% below the level by that level by 2026. That's going to be a very sluggish recovery. Paul W. Yeah, I'm afraid it is. And in fact, I just spoke well last night with the Dan rep from metro cars and their businesses back booming for For us for people who want to use it for you know the weddings, the special events, Um, weekends, things like that. Which we've been doing for a long time. What hasn't come back is the business travel and we're going to see a big delay in business travel, which which you just pointed out where If you would call it I don't know. The, uh this sector service industry is still going to be hurting because people are travelling like they were. I mean for business, the rest of us travel for whatever we have to travel for, And I'm glad that you pointed out in the University of Michigan pointed out this information because, frankly, All of these projects. Were ongoing and when you hear them listed the way you just listed him, they're a big deal. That's a lot going on at one time in the city that got kind of derailed because of this pandemic, But we have to realize they're still there. The plans are still there for the factory zero. It's all it's it's all but done the retooling. We know this delight this Mack Avenue Assembly plant. Recent reopening, I guess is how I put it. The ongoing Gordie Howe International Bridge to Canada. Ford's new campus court down Let's not forget about that that long, dormant, long vacant Michigan Central Station. Which is going to open in this next year. At least that's the plan the Amazon distribution center. That the new Hudson's building whatever it's going to be at that location, and the good old the guys Ray Scott and his team at Leer with new seating manufacturing in Detroit. Just one of those projects in a year would be a big deal exactly what I was thinking. When we were putting this report together. I just That's exactly what I thought. I thought want any city any city would be thrilled to have just one of these projects. These were all considered. The ones we listed here are all considered major projects. We haven't even gotten into the second tier projects that are out there And don't forget to when you see things like that still Antis Mack Avenue Assembly plant. And the completion there. Not only are they going to be the jobs inside the 5000 new jobs inside, But there's all these other projects than that get built around that assembly plant like the little mom and pop shops or the diners or the service industries that are going to crop up around a lot of these places, the Amazon centers, another good one. That's going to really make that area around eight mile and Woodward really boom. It's already booming, thanks to the mire complex, the mire Food Center that's there and the little strip mall. That's there. That place is always booming. So it's It's really pretty remarkable that we're worse, still chugging along on all these projects really chugging along and really on the verge of booming again. Uh, we just have to get through this pandemic and I would think that people who are all affected by this which is all of us. Affected by the booming growth and affected by the booming pandemic Boomerang. I would think we'd all want to do whatever we have to do to get rid of this thing so that that booming growth in manufacturing in construction, warehousing transportation sectors. Employment in Detroit's blue collar industries forecast to be 11% above its pre pandemic level by the end of this year. 20% higher by late 20. 23 23% higher in 2026. So it's not out of the realm of, uh of possibilities to say. If we get through this pandemic and start to move on, everything really will be coming up Roses. Especially for the city of Detroit and the Great State of Michigan. It looks like we're heading in that direction, Paul. But again, as you said, you really have to. We really have to get a handle on the pandemic. These the variants. Certainly the Delta area that's caused just reached Avidan havoc in every sector. So that has to be teamed. In order for these really these projects to really get back on track. Full speed. Add The way they should be, but they are still moving ahead. There's no doubt about that. Absolutely. And it's a good reminder. I thank you and I thank the University of Michigan. Economists that have come out with this report released at Monday. We needed Frankly, no.

"After carbon monoxide poisoning at the faster horses campsite. Our WJR senior news analyst Marie Osborne with the details. Officials are now investigating four deaths at the festival over the weekend. Faster horses is a nationally known country music festival that takes place at the Michigan International Speedway. "The down Great Lakes Bay Invitationals Pro Am. Booster or not to boost her with the details. WJR senior news analyst Marie Osborne Good Morning Marie and Good Morning Paul. Pfizer officials met with the Food and Drug Administration officials yesterday to discuss a request. For federal authorization of a third dose of its covid 19 vaccine. Now, Dr Fauci had said, it is possible that we will need that third booster shot US officials, though pressing Pfizer yesterday for more evidence of the need for that booster shot. After meeting with company representatives, officials said the decision would depend partly on data on infections and vaccinated people that cause serious disease or hospitalization. Dr Fauci saying after the meeting. This is just one piece of a much bigger puzzle, and it's one of the part of the data that they need to examine. So it's not a question. Of convincing a case one way or the other fighter says that booster shots would be needed within 12 months. Fighters doctor McHale doled Stone said last week that early data from the company's booster studies suggested people's antibody levels jump. 5 to 10 fold after a third dose compared to the second dose months earlier, so evidence that it believes that we may be needing that booster shot. Also important to note about 48% of the US population is fully vaccinated. And many after this meeting, said what people what experts should be working on and doctors should be working on is getting everybody vaccinated. Maybe not so much. That's argument about a third booster, but instead getting everybody vaccinated. There was one other important development yesterday, Paul that I do want to make sure we get in here. The U. S. Food and Drug Administration updated the label on Johnson and Johnson Coronavirus vaccine. To warn of a possible increase of a rare neurological complication known as G on beret syndrome. The FDA says it's not established that the vaccine was the cause of the syndrome, but noted an increase of these reports about 100. Preliminary reports of G in Berets syndrome were found after administering 12.8 million Vaccines. So that's one more thing. They're keeping their eye on, Paul Man. Oh, man, oh, man that Johnson and Johnson vaccine is snakebit from the beginning. Right back in April. They had to, uh, pause the release of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine because of a risk of a rare type of blood clotting complication, But they lifted it after a few days, or a few weeks of looking at that, and said that it was the risk was so low and The condition was treatable. But now this, so this is another thing that they're going to have to look at. And as you mentioned Marie Osborne, Representatives advisor meeting privately with senior U. S. Scientists and regulators yesterday to press their case for swift authorization of the Corona. Virus booster vaccines and if they were dealing with anyone other than the CDC, FDA or World health Organization of which we've lost confidence in because they've been so wrong throughout this virus. I'd feel a little better about it. I kind of go. I kind of go with the Pfizer scientists on this one with their knowledge and what they're coming up with saying that we might need a booster. You know it's interesting because I used the word. I used the flu vaccines and I use the word variants of the flu. But people told me no, no, no. Well, one person told me it's not variance of the flu. It's different strains of the flu. I'm dying to ask a doctor the difference between a variant and a strange because I don't really know. But I do know that we get a flu shot every year. I have a terrible feeling. We will be told we should probably have a coronavirus vaccine every year whether it's based on the same variant. Or strain or not, so I we just don't need as you said, Marie. We just don't need any more controversy on that. We, the American people believed For the longest time. That the CDC FDA in World Health Organization were in existence. Spending the billions of dollars we funded them with. To a prevent this kind of an outbreak, but be certainly know how to deal with it and handle it. We've been Well, our confidence has been shaken just a bit. Quick note here. Did you see the story where researchers have found another good thing about drinking coffee, and that's a good thing. Because here on the morning program, we all Love our coffee. Drinking coffee lowers risk of covid infection. Did you see that one? Oh, I did not. I did not. But boy, that sounds like good news. It's.

"The first step is that you should use your data to help. Your students grow academically. There are two types of data qualitative data such as student writing teacher. Observations stories case studies a student conversations. The second type of data is quantitative data which includes test scores quizzes. I want you to think of this. One hard data numbers charts graphs quantitative data. And this is important because it will give you a holistic picture of how you students are doing. The second tip is to differentiate your instruction my definition of differentiation <hes>. That you're meeting the needs of all students differentiation. Not students working in small groups. Doing the exact same thing. There are three ways. You can differentiate it can differentiate your content your process or your product. I will do a deep dive asssociation. So stay on the lookout one. Simple way is to differentiate the students and product based on their grade level performance. Which means whether or not they're performing at above or below grade level for example. You could be doing a writing assignment with students. But you want to differentiate that writing assignment based on students performing at above or below grade level. So you're differentiating. The end product the writing assignment based on students performing at above or below grade level. And this is helpful. Because you'll be able to help all the students in your classroom and not only that you're moving all your students from one level to another in a step by step process you meeting them where they are and moving them where you want them to be. The third tip is to take advantage of leadership opportunities within your school. No matter how small you think it is. It was my fourth year of teaching. My principal asked me to be a grade level facilitator for my grade level. I didn't think i was ready. I was wondering why she chose or after me but you know what. Despite my doubts i said yes. I immediately started learning and researching how to be a grade level facilitator. It was hard to juggle while teaching in the classroom but helped me to develop my leadership and team building skills. These leadership and team building skills were then transferred to my classroom and students once they became in turn allies so for you. I want you to know that once you take on a leadership opportunity. The skills that you learned from that leadership opportunity can be transferred into your classroom with your students. The next thing is that this one leadership opportunity but me too many more opportunities in the years to come. It is one of those opportunities that i'm very happy and grateful that i said yesterday. Do i felt empowered to do more innovative things in my classroom. For example i incorporated more project based learning compared to before where i wasn't incorporating new and innovative ideas so taking on leadership opportunities is a good thing and it's something that i want you to do because i know that it will help you.
