Do you think three words can change your life. I say they can Dan and in fact they will whether you WANNA leave a dead end job. Breaking addiction learned dance healer relationship grow business. Master your money or even solve world hunger the three words you need our way for it. Everything is figure out a ball. I gotta say that little phrase has changed my life and it's the title of my a new book which is about to change yours. It's available now so go get your copy at everything is figuring out dot com hanes Marie forleo and you are watching Marie. TV and the place to be to have a business and life you love it is Qa. Tuesday and today's question comes from Sylvia in Sylvia rates. Hi Marine gene. How do I find my boys and create my own brand without feeling like a total copy of the women I admire? I get so much inspiration from my mentors but I feel stuck. How do I get my own message out there and have it sound like me Sylvia? This is a fantastic question and one I get asked. A lot is really afford that. You're able to find your own way to to express yourself in a way that feels original authentic to you. One thing I want to let you know about every creator and writer I know struggles with this including me when you find someone when you're inspired by it's really easy to read all their stuff and then all of a sudden you start speaking like them and writing like them and it can get using just not feel so good. Here's the thing think most ideas are already out there so it's not so much about what you say it's about how you say it. It's so important that you challenge yourself and be creative and and I know it can seem like when someone else says something. That is the only way it can be said. But that's just not true. In fact your four strategies defined your voice and end your brand number one challenge yourself to express one idea at least five different ways. This is a great way to help you build your ability to see Z.. Things different ways in your own way. Try this pick one idea for a universal concept and try saying much different ways. Here's an example idea f. You can't control the way things are going to happen. That's the way the cookie crumbles happens. Everything happens for a reason south to deal with that. You just can't win them. All in what will be will be see. That was just seven two ways to say the same thing but they each have their own unique tone and energy number to draw on your own experience not your research this means tell your own stories use your own phrases raises. Come up with your own analogies in your own metaphors you want to use your own life to inform your teaching. Here's the thing if you're telling your on stories you can't possibly he copied from someone else and using your own stories allows you to develop a very unique voice and develop your own very unique content number three when you write your own content. Don't look at other people's stuff. Here's the deal. If you are constantly looking at other people's stop it is bound to seep into your spongy little brain and then come out and what you right so when you're going to write your own content put away other people's books stop reading other people's blogs and just say what you say in your own voice you should have no other reference materials materials around except for maybe a thesaurus number. Four give yourself the BFF reality check whether you're writing copy or shooting a video or preparing inhering for a talk you need to check and ask yourself. Does this sound like you. Would you actually see this to your best friend. If you said it to your best friend they say W too. Yep Who are oh you did an alien come down in a few door. If so it's likely you're trying to be someone else. If not congrats girl. You found your voice before we wrap. I WANNA leave you with one of my favorite close of all time and yes. It is a tweet -able they always be a first rate version of yourself instead of a second rate version of somebody else. Judy Garland Arlit. Now it's your turn. Do you have any tricks for bringing out your own voice. And he's stumbling blocks that you run into when you're trying to stay unique or as I like to say keeping it real. Ah I want you to add your genius to the conversation. Be as specific as possible. 335 - Coronavirus Support Guide: How To Stay Strong & Navigate This Time Together

"Welcome to the Marie Forleo podcast. It's time to get inspired. Grows stronger and get tools to create a life you love. Hey it's Marie forleo and welcome to a very special episode of the Marie Forleo podcast so as we all know. A lot has happened in these past few weeks and especially in these past few days as it relates to the corona virus epidemic. So there are five things I wanNA talk about in today's podcast and we're going to dig right in first and foremost. I hope you and your family are well. I hope you guys are safe. So I'm actually recording this podcast In my kitchen in Los Angeles and I'm here with Josh and Cooma so on our team we actually cancelled our upcoming Marie TV. Shoot and any travel that I had my calendar for obvious reasons and personally were prepared to hunker down and stay put inside for like the next four to six weeks or honestly as long as needed Prepared to do whatever the heck I can to help flatness damn curve and I hope you are too for the past week. I've been on the phone and doing lives and doing video chats with my team With our be school students and my loved ones because I want to help put things into perspective. My goal is a human Always to help find solutions but right now what I want to help everyone I know do including myself is transformed any panic into some preparedness some problem solving and purposeful action. Here's what I know to be true in my heart. I'm a hundred percent certain that if we pull together as a global family we're GONNA make it through this and look. I wrote a Number One New York Times bestseller called. Everything is figure out -able and yes. I believe. The Corona virus is figure out about two years. I've been talking about this a lot with Josh. I think something in this crisis right that there is an opportunity for us to grow stronger and wiser and more resilient on the other side but I gotta be honest based on the facts and I'm a person who likes to pay attention to the facts. I do feel strongly that the most important step that each of us can take right now is to stay home and stay well. So look if you're listening and you're not one of the heroines or one of the heroes who is in the medical community or you're not one of the folks the heroine's or the heroes that are working in our grocery stores pharmacies or making sure that society can keep functioning as best as it possibly can right now. Please stay home. Because here's the truth. The truth from my point of view the more of us that can stay home and stay healthy the faster that collectively we're going to move through this corona virus and the other day. I was You know connecting with folks on instagram and a woman named Jackson member of our community. She's a physicians assistant. She's on the front lines. And here's her comment. This her words per vadim she said. Please do your part and give us a fighting chance. Stay home wash your hands. Don't come to the unless it's an absolute emergency. Help US help you. And if you have a friend or family member in medicine right now send them a message to tell them. You're thinking of them. It really helps. When you've tested your third Cova. Nineteen of the night so back to me right. This is not her quote anymore. I personally believe that this is a time for our humanity. Our creativity our connection and yes for us to retain our sense of humor. So Look we've got folks in our community from everywhere folks that listen to this podcast that watch marine TV. That read our email that follow me on instagram. People from one hundred and nine hundred five countries and territories. We have folks from every different walk of life and I know for so many of you. Life was really frigging hard before this pandemic and my heart honestly is breaking imagining some of the stress in fear and anxiety that some folks are feeling right now. I've got notes in emails from single. Moms losing their jobs asking me for help. I've got notes from folks who are battling illness whether that's physical illness or mental or emotional illness and understandably a lot of folks are feeling alone and afraid and I just WanNa say from my heart to yours I see you. I am here for you team portfolios here from you now. The second thing that I want to share with you today is that my team and I just put up a huge resource guide to support you and it's over at Marie forleo dot com slash blog. Or you can just Google Marie. Forleo CORONA virus support this blog post. Y'All is awesome. So here's a couple of things that we cover in it. We talk about how to manage your stress fear and anxiety which is so crucial right now because you need to take care of your immune system. I've got some funny inspiring and feel good moments. I've been paying attention to so many great things happening on the Internet and I honestly believed some of it is just first of all so creative and so hilarious. You gotta see it. We talk about how to work from home and actually get things done so you probably know this but in case you'd out I've been running my company virtually four twenty years. We have a lot of insight about how to help. People really stay productive and engaged. Especially if you're not used to working from home. We got a whole section on how to stay active without going to the gym. We got a whole big section on how to educate and entertain your kids especially when they're all in your house and you did not expect them to be there. We have so many parents on team for Leo. And I gotta say some of the things that they're sharing and the slack channels are just hilarious and also super help also included that we have how to stay emotionally connected while social distancing. This is important just because you might be an isolation doesn't mean you need to be lonely again. This is another thing that I feel like. I'm kind of wonderfully suited at this time to help support people because frankly I spend a lot of time indoors and so many people that I know in love some of my closest friends and my family. We don't live geographically near each other so I'm constantly staying with to them using technology so we put some of those tips in there as well and then for my US citizens. We have some updates on unemployment and mortgage services and finally. This is the big one. We talk about four ways to serve your community so this is not going to be relevant for everyone listening to this podcast right now. If you're someone who's having a really hard time there's going to be resources in here for you and if you're someone who's listening to this podcast and you have extra meaning you have some extra resources some time. Some money some energy some creativity and you want it. Put It to good use. We've got some ways free to do that over on the blog so please go have a look at this resource. Share it with your community if you find it valuable and then if you've got other ideas for things to add to the list let me know in the comments again. You can find our corona virus support guide by Googling Marie Forleo Corona virus support okay. We're doing good here now. The third thing I want to share with you today is dude. All this. We're actually the Gumby podcasting a lot more in the coming weeks and I'm so excited to experiment with some podcasting ideas that had for quite some time and honestly now's the time to do it so if you're not already subscribe to our podcast do it now so you can come along for the journey because it is going to be fun. Four thing I want to share with you today. I am going to be going live on instagram. A lot more again I feel like I'm in this unique position to support people in staying really clear minded in staying focused on what they can do. Not what they can't insane creative especially around your careers in your businesses and staying healthy and strong mentally emotionally physically. So if you don't already follow me on instagram. Come join me because we have a frigging good time at Marie Forleo and make sure you turn on notifications. I think one of the most annoying things for me is when I go live and I get that message from instagram. You hit this when we're GONNA notify of your followers and it's like are you kidding me. Why notifying some of my followers. Not all my followers because these people obviously raised their hand because they want to hear what I have to say. So if you turn on notifications you will hopefully get the little update that I'm going live and I don't have a schedule at of this moment when I'm going to go and live it's going to be pretty impromptu based on navigating all of these new changes with my team and taking care of schoolers and all that good stuff but I will try and be as present there as I possibly can and then fifth and finally I just want to remind you the most important thing you can do right. Now is honestly. Please take care of yourself. I want you to stay strong and healthy mentally emotionally physically as we all know and again this is a reminder but it's based in science stress lowers the immune response which is the exact opposite of what we need right now. And here's what I believe. Tough Times make for strong people and I promise you I promise you we will make it through this if we're smart and if we pull together I've been doing a lot of lives with might be school students and one of the things I said to them earlier this week in before the Shikaki really hit the fan is I told them about a little game that I play with myself around self identity. Now if you don't know about this you should know your self identity or how you see yourself is one of the most powerful and potent forces that shapes your behavior in life so I told my be schoolers and it was really fun and I saw one woman at least who saw that particular live that I did go and post about it on instagram. Basically this is what I told them. I said look for any all. Who are feeling overwhelmed right now. This is what you have to start staying. Adopt this mantra just say. I don't do overwhelm. I don't do stress so think about it this way. Let's say you had a bunch of friends right and you love your friends. And they came over and they're like hey look we ain't got any toilet paper. Let's go rob our our neighbor down the street the old Graham over there. I'm sure she's got stores. Like what the FRIG are you talking about? I don't rob people I don't steal from people that's not what I do. That's not who I am. That's not how I behave and so I want to invite you to just consider adopting this new identity right now that says this. I don't do overwhelm. I don't do stress. Yes in a momentary instance. Maybe there will be a lot coming your way and you might feel overwhelmed for a minute. Thirty seconds maybe five minutes. But tell yourself this. I don't do overwhelm. I will not exist in that emotional or mental state. It is not a place I will allow myself to indulge in period end of story. Same thing with stress. I'm not GONNA do stress. I'm just not GONNA do it. I'm going to opt out of both of those emotional states. Why they're not useful. All they do is create havoc. They lower your immune response. They make you crazy and they don't necessarily help you get anything purposeful done so again. I invite you to adopt those mantras. I don't do overwhelm and I don't do stress and see how that works for you because it works really really well for me and with that. I will say this was really fun. I'm actually excited to talk more with you in this format because I think it's going to be a good time and no matter what again. Please just take care of yourself and want you to err on the side of safety if you possibly can again if you are not a member of the medical community if you are not stocking groceries or doing any of the essential core central things that we need in society right now. Please stay the frick home. I'm not kidding. I'm literally the stay at home and hunker down police in my team and with my family my friends because I love them and I love you so make sure you come say hi to me over on the ground because that's where I spend the most time on social media's or you can come leave a comment at Marie Forleo Dot Com. Let me know if there's any questions or topics you want me to talk about in these upcoming weeks on the podcast and again I think we're gonNA have a good time with this Good time with this meaning amid the Zombie Apocalypse Corona virus. We're going to have a good time on the podcast. Don't come from me with like us is going to be a good time. Ray. That's not what I'm saying. Context people but above all. I will leave you the way I always leave you on my show which is with this. Stay on your game and keep going for your dreams. Yes even during this time because the world really does need that. Berry special gift that only you have thank you so much for listening and I'll catch you next time on the Marie Fo- podcast thank you so much for listening in if you're into it subscribed lever review and tell your friends.

And you are watching Marie TV the place to be to create a business and in life that you love and today's QNA Tuesday that means cues as today's question comes from Ginny. And she writes, hi, Marie. I'm newly named female CEO of tech startup. I'm so excited and really feel like I'm qualified for the role. And we'll bring a lot to the table. That said, I'm a kind positive person, actually, positively is one of my five Gallup strength, finders strength. I love this about myself, but have experienced these two traits being viewed as weaknesses. I think people quite positively with being naive. I've tried suppressing these areas my personality in the past to be taken more seriously, but it doesn't feel genuine or healthy walking into the male dominated cutthroat tech world. I suspect these traits will again be seen as liabilities. But. I know I need to be me in order to give my best. You have any suggestions to help me with this sich? Thanks ginny. What you have is a rare and precious gift Jenny, positively is a powerful strength. It's what makes you come alive. So you need to really listen to me here. Suppressing who you are is not an option do not ever suppress any part of who you are to fit into the tech world the business world or any other world. Unless of course, you wanna spiral down into depression and mediocrity. You mentioned that in the past your, positively and kindness where Bued as weak Myra sponsor, ignore that feedback because I doubt those are the kind of people that you wanna take advice from you want associate with or that you want to lead in your organization and don't make an assumption that just because you're walking into a male dominated world that your core strength will be viewed as liabilities they might. Or they might not because here's the important thing. I want you to remember. The future of business is about being more connected to your humanity, not less, and that includes your positively kindness. Your enthusiasm, your vulnerability and most importantly, your heart. Let's look at this through lens of gardening for a minute. So every plant and flower thrives under different conditions between us, for instance, love full sun, anything less, and you won't get the extrordinary blooms that it's capable of producing impatience on the other hand love the shade. You give them too much on. And they're gonna fry and die just like flowers need the right condition to survive and thrive. So do you. You gotta realize that you're only as good as the people you surround yourself with. And it is vital that you put yourself in the right ecosystem one that gives you the chance to really flex your strengths. Put yourself in the right conditions. You will blossom put yourself on the wrong conditions. However like with a bunch of cynics, and you will wither and die. When you know, what makes you strong don't settle for less. There is no prize for suffering. My big unequivocal message to you is embrace your strength of positivity and be it daily your enthusiasm for life is contagious. Plus it gives other people permission to be kind and positive and enthusiastic leaders to. So let's review suppressing who you are not an option ignore people who consider your core, strengths weakness. Don't make sumptious about the environment. You're walking into keep an open, mind and heart. Those strengths of yours are the future of business and success. Now more than ever is the time to let them shine. And if you ever need a boost confidence to do that. Remember, this tweet -able? The future business belongs to the kind the enthusiastic the optimistic. So that was my eighty or cugini let us know how it goes. And now, I would love to hear from you have you ever been tempted to suppress one of your core strength because you thought you'd be seen as weak what specifically happened, and how did you handle it as always the best discussions happen? After the episode over at the magical land of Murray, folio dot com. So go there and leave a comment. Jason Silva is above all an optimist and curator of by DEA inspiration and all Jason. Thank you so much for being here today. How food you so much for having me sell. I know we're going to talk about a lot of really cool. Things Creativity tippety future ism all kinds of stuff but actually want to start off going back to the past so I know that oftentimes we can see the seeds of who someone is is to become what they're meant to do in this world when we look in the past and I know that you actually started doing these salons in your house. Can you tell us a little bit about that. Jesus Sir I grew up in Venezuela and I used to go to an international school so my friends were all over the world and all the time we had new kids coming into the school because their parents were working for multinational national companies so they'd be stationed there so people were new all the time in the school and one of the ways that we made people feel at home right away was used to organize them and bring them invite them into my crew and I used to organize these salons in my house and basically they were idea jams we would share books and scenes from movies that we love then we drank wine nine and we hung out and Venezuela you can buy alcohol it pretty young age but yeah I always I always loved ideas and I always loved recording ideas because one of the things that sort of haunted me from a very young age was that inspiration was really fleeting. Inspiration was defined by its permanence and so my way of like arresting bad of capturing these he's inspired exchanges with my friends was through the camera so I pretty much had video cameras since I was twelve and had been documenting my mind gems ever since then. That's incredible ever look back on those. Yes yes as a matter of fact could even show you a little clip if you want. Definitely we're GONNA make that you're GONNA see four hundred thirty. Two traffic's okay cool. Is that where you started thinking to yourself. Okay I want to do this for my life. I think so yeah I I always loved the movies and I always loved getting kind of immersed in cinema and I thought that cinema was the best way to mediate mediate encounters with transcendence and inspiration. You know I didn't grow up religious at all so I didn't get that from traditional religious spaces but to me cinemas the last altar left cinema was the place where I felt like I- transcended the ego and I connected with something larger than myself whether it was the characters or their mythic journey or their transformation transformation whatever was to me. Cinema was Cathartic so there was no doubt that I was going to go to film school and get involved in making content in some capacity but because I was kind of a child hi of the digital revolution I was responding to the restrictions liberations that came with that so rather than going the route of trying to make feature length films or docs. I fell in love with the short form college and the fact that I had a video camera since I was twelve had shown me that I could have really quick turnarounds. That's the thing about digital video. It's like you could just shoot it if it looked cool on the little viewfinder than you could repeat record and you can really capture the moment and you could very quickly turn that around and so. I- after that there it was just no way that I could go to the more slow production vibe you know. I just had to keep it at that speed and that has that's been my journey's. That's incredible and so we're you both behind behind the camera and in front of the camera. I originally was all about directing so when I was like twelve thirteen fourteen I would direct my little brother and we do these spoofs short films and so on and so forth and have blast and at the time I had no editing equipment so I had to edit in real time in my head and we shot in sequence and the cuts were in my head and I'd start start and stop and do the next shot and so on and so forth and but it was really in like later in highschool with those salons sessions that was videotaping that I started to turn the camera on on myself so not only was I videotape my friends and and sort of mind mind jamming conversations that were happening but at some point I sort of felt like if I wanted to narrate or say something I was like okay. Hey just hold the camera and I just had a camera my friend. I start like yapping about something and then later on. I was surprised that my my rantings are actually somewhat lucid you know because at the time I had no real experience of the minute you put the camera on me I would get self conscious but but in those instances I was able to be in no mind state and actually get in the zone on and get into flow and this was the best stuff seemed to emerge so then at that point it became. I still wanted to control the creative but I was like you know what I can narrate my own stuff. Yeah I mean and you're you're absolutely stunning on it and that's actually I was so excited. When I came across one of your most popular videos I was like I have got to get in touch with Jason. I need him on ATV because you are absolutely you're born to do this in. You're brilliant. Absolutely you're welcome so let's talk more about creativity. You think creativity is just one of those. It's just just such a fascinating subject. I'm Marie TV. Were always coming up with ideas and everything else. We do in the business for you when it comes to creativity. Do you think that there's ever in new ideas everything in interational version of something that's come before that's that's. I kind of fall in line with that notion that everything is kind of a remix. Everything builds it's on pre existing knowledge base and creative people are people that are able to connect the dots in a new way arrange the Legos in a different order but but using the same building blocks. There's actually a series on the web. That's really popular called. Everything is a remix that's genius and it just shows a lot of things that we consider original or actually again a remix of what came before and so that's where. I think that whole notion about steal like an artist or you know good artists borrow great artists steal because the the truth of the matter is everything builds on what came before so as long as you site where your inspiration comes from or you give credit to wear you're connecting the dots from beyond that that I think we all kind of share in that space in which ideas can have sex and they should all belong to all of us. Yes actually that's what I wanted to talk about next. I thought it was such an interesting turn of phrase. Obviously it's like a little bit saucy a little bit. Sassy talk to me about ideas having sex and why you're so passionate about bringing these very interesting thing amazing philosophical philosophical concepts and packaging them in a mainstream way that everybody can get well that term ideas having sex rex. I think it came after I read Steven Johnson's book where good ideas come from a natural history of innovation which is a dazzling book about the origin of ideas and he writes a lot there about how we need to create a space ecology of thought and he talks about how cities are fertile spaces uses for ideas to have sex because of the density of the way people are arranged near each other people from different backgrounds co mingling together sprouts new re combinations of ideas. He talks about the rise of coffee shop as another instance in history that led to a lot of ideas because you put a lot of people in a small space you give them lots of caffeine and ideas intermingle mutate and sprout and in the age of the Internet all of a sudden even the city even though it's still a very creative place. It's not a necessary precursor anymore because the age of the Internet we transcend distance and time and space itself so now anybody who is interested in anything can coalesce around someone else was interested in the same thing and they can have that kind of ideas idea sex but I love the metaphor of talking about ecology or space where ideas which are like organisms can have sex which is the whole the solution of we went from a world of jeans a world of memes so ideas these memes are these living things ideas leap from brain to brain. They compete for the resources verses of our attention. They have infectivity. They have spreading power. This notion that ideas are live is is a wonderful idea and actually I remember in one of your videos. You talked about about how they retain some of the characteristics of organisms and that just kind of blew my mind. I want to hear Jason Talk about that. Well that was Richard Dawkins in the selfish office gene I believe in the seventies this book where he introduced the term me and of course meam rhymes with jeans and he says you know we used to live in world where information was only exchanged through sex sexual reproduction that's how genetic information mixed with other genetic information but with culture with language all of a sudden and we had this new information technology that allowed us to encode information in vocal patterns and transmitted through time and space outside of DNA that was a new you replicator writing allowed us to encode information. Take it outside of the mind and put it over there and let it spread. Let other people read it so it was this is this notion that at that point we went from a world of genes to a world of memes and that this new replicator accelerated our capacity to transform form the world because it just it started building and building and building and building and building and now we live in that we have the global nervous system where information is traveling faster than ever. I mean it's it's a wild space right yeah. It's refined thoughts travelling at the speed of light. It's so exciting to me and often times. I just really stop and think about how much I I love the Internet. I talk about unlike it. I remember getting online for the first time in going. I can reach people in another part of the world that would never never have a chance to connect with on a spiritual level on any level and it literally makes me want to jump Outta my skin. I think there was a famous Jesuit priest called tailored discharged in and he talked about the Omega Point and the acceleration of technology is leading towards this apex where we all kind of merge into this Super Meta organism. He refer to it as the new US fear that rises above the biosphere so it's this membrane is going to surround the earth. That's all mind. It's all thought it's all the thoughts of billions of people finally becoming this sort of Meta organism and it's a wild idea but think about it. I mean you create a piece of content that doesn't it just inspire the people in this room but that inspire somebody in South Korea or in Berlin and it might change the book that they decide to read that day which might change changed the major that they go for in college which might then change the course of human evolution because they might invent something so. It's like we do now. Ideas are a force of evolution Russian and the fact that our ideas are unbounded by normal Euclidean meet space limitations of distance and time means that we're in this world where thought ought travels at the speed of light and thought evolves and mutates and wow knows where that's going to go but it's an exciting time if used wisely. How much do you love that. Were alive right now. And how much do you love especially given what you do and your skill set and your passion yeah one hundred percent. I mean look technology gets a lot of criticism and that's because technology always been a double edged sword and I understand I mean when we discovered fire. It's been famously says you could use fire to cook your food and and that led to this acceleration or capacity to absorb nutrients and it freed us to have all this time to think and so on and so forth but you can also use fire to burn your enemies you can use the alphabet to write Shakespearean sonnets that enrich the imagination or you can use the alphabet composed hate speech and lead people to kill each other so technology extends but it can extend into any direction and it's how we use these tools ultimately determines if they're good at her bad but I haven't unwavering belief leave that if you look at the macro trends overall. We tend to use these things for good Steven. Johnson wrote a whole other book about that future perfect where he talks about look. It's not utopia but it's leaning that way. The world has never been less violent than it is today contrary to what you see in the Media Steven Pinker Old Myth of violence Ted talk says that the chances this is a man dying at the hands of another man or the lowest than they've ever been in the history of man. yeah if you watch game of thrones. It's like Whoa thank God. We're not there anymore. Totally totally totally but you know again. The media is doom and gloom so it makes you almost think that the world is going to hell when in fact there's a lot of things that are going right and and so again it's how we use these tools was ultimately they will determine our fate. I do believe though that now. It's more up to us than it's ever been. I think we're the chief agents of evolution solution now so evolution now has mind attached to it so we'd better use our minds wisely and use these tools for the common good. I think yeah no one hundred percent in which brings me to what I think is one of your favorite subjects to getting deeper into the future and I know you and I are both fans this idea the singularity for anyone one watching who's not familiar with that term okay so the singularity. There's a lot written and said about this idea. it's actually originally a physics term so it's a term that's. Information Technology futurists borrow from physics and originally the meaning is what happens when you go through a black hole and apparently the laws of physics kind of collapse when you go through that black hole so you can't really you can't really know what what happens when you go through it and so it's it's it's a metaphor that's been borrowed to describe a moment when the packs of information technology coalescing artificial intelligence the biotechnology revolution volusia reprogramming our biology and the nanotechnology revolution which turns like matter into a programmable medium everything the level of the atom becomes manipulable and so essentially these three overlapping revolutions are predicted to lead us towards a moment that after which is impossible for us to predict what happens next week because when we EH radically extend our cognitive capacities with digital tools infinitely more advanced digital tools even than what we have today or when we create a non biological mind and which is coming soon. I mean there's the blue brain. Project is spending over a billion dollars to create a digital sentence and the whole point is that this mind wouldn't be bound by the physical limitations that we have. We're fifty six K modem. You know we're we're. We're at one point. Oh imagine like a nine point zero mind on the silicon on that can upgrade itself so the whole point is trying to imagine the new sublime mind spaces that will emerge is like like trying to explain to a chimp the nuances of Shakespearean sonnet. It's just no matter how bright the chimp is. He can't get the nuances of of language and so that's where it gets excited because I think the singularity open the the the metaphor it just it opens us to the possibility of imagining the NFL imagining the almost impossible to imagine and so it lends itself to wonderful speculation. I think a lot of speculation for me. I get very very excited by you know Ray Kurzweil abundance all of that stuff. I can't get enough whenever I read or hear talk with people about in like. Oh so scary and I know that at one point you said you know what if what if that consciousness is actually more empathetic. It's like I had never heard that perspective before because everyone thinks about it. It's like the machines are coming. That's it. We're going to get totally. So what do you think about that. I mean and I thought that was such. Does that tie into your do you have spiritual beliefs. I mean not traditional ones. I grew up in a secular Jewish household but my mom is an artist and a poem so I think our religion was art. Art Is transcendent you know and I defy transcendence As when the sum of the parts adds up to more than the parts you know you put you put materials together in a certain way and what results exceeds seeds those materials and music and art and languages so transcendent and so that's that's my version of spirituality but to answer your question you know we've always been scared of change disruption when when writing was invented. I've read that socrates used to being opposed to it because he says if we write things down. We won't have to remember anything and so our brains will rot so there's been you know. The establishment of the time is afraid eight of these new disruptive tools because they shake up the status quo and I think it's the same fear that people had about video games. Oh you are GONNA make us. All you know violent or they're gonNA atrophy trophy our brains when in fact it's found out you know video games. Engage your problem solving skills engage your strategy skills and your brain and all these amazing ways you know. I don't know if you've heard of the book. Reality is broken. It's all about the power of game mechanics to help save the world. I'm going to read it and so I think we'll be surprised by how we have the possibility awesome ability of using these tools in wonderful ways and how if we do create a non biological mind it's going to have everything that's wonderful but humans exponentially multiplied you know and there's a great idea. Kevin Kelly than I I always was a big inspiration. He co-founded wired magazine and just imagine for a second how impoverished we'd be if if we didn't invent oil painting technology in time for Van Gogh's genius to unfurl through it or if we didn't invent musical annotation or the instrument both technologies analogies in time for Beethoven's genius to kind of emerge through that so if we rob ourselves creating these new tools we'd be robbing ourselves of the next Beethoven the next Mozart the next Van Gogh who are going to use these tools to build things. We can't even imagine yes and that's what's really exciting what I'm curious. Is there a particular sector whether it's non attack biotech anything else or a particular thing that you're very excited to see come to life. That's maybe on the cusp now yeah. I'm really excited about the OCULUS rift and the kind of virtual reality revolution that we're seeing with that you know especially and platforms like kickstarter people can come up with cool ideas. He is and the crowd itself can fund it all of a sudden new possibilities emerge but we've always wanted to inhabit that mind space that virtual space. I mean already when we watch movies are mind is in the film. When we're engaging with the Internet I mean we're interfacing with a space that isn't space is willing Gibson us to say and and I think that with the Oculus we're finally going to be surrounded fully by that virtual space and it's GonNa be good definitely change online dating at the very least but but no I just imagined new modalities of communication that will be very exciting to explore art to probably God absolutely tanking transcendental art therapeutic virtual reality therapy. I think is going to become a big thing to get even a little Kooky. I don't know if you're familiar with maps so the Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies is the nonprofit that's trying to use plant based psycho. Psychotropic medicines listens have been used for thousands of years by all kinds of societies and bring them into the psychotherapy realm and so imagine combining oculus rift virtual reality with. I like the way that they're giving. PTSD patients and put them in this like new realm and then it's like better living through chemistry mixed with electronic mediation. I think we could really that's amazing or it could be a kind of almost divine engineering or electronic spiritually so fascinating so so I know you've got a lot going on personally to brain games. which is a huge hit show ya? What else are you personally. What are you working on. What's happening for you so oh yea brain games has been wonderful because it's giving me a wonderful television platform you know. I used to be a current TV for many years but then I had some time where I wasn't and and so it's nice to have that platform. It's one of their most successful series ever. We were nominated for an emmy and it's nice to be involved in something that I think is making neuroscience accessible to mainstream audiences insist and then shots aw is much passion project my philosophical Espresso shots which speak deeply I think to my own existential essential obsessions angst. You know it's a a woody. Allen famously used to say. I don't want to achieve mortality through my work. I want to achieve achieve it. Bhai not dying because he has this whole thing about death in the morbid human can the mobility of the human condition when seen in its naked form and I echo his sentiments but a shots of is sort of the next best thing intil weekend sort of Nano engineer immortality and transcend our human limitations artistic transcendence is all I got and and making those videos allows me temporarily to arrest the passing of time and to be moved moved to the point of tears hopefully and hopefully others and to really not just not just not just arrest time but but it turn allies and immortalize the passing at the moment to take these moments of cognitive ecstasy and take a snapshot of them to parentheses them to hang them on the wall and God. I mean for me. That's just that's just it's the closest thing to stabilising happiness that that can that can be you know my mom used to publish all these poetry books in English and Spanish in Venezuela and I think those poems were that for her and so these videos are that for me. You're absolutely genius. Add it and I cannot wait to see an new incoming up. Do you want to tell everybody about yes. So there's one about nonconformity then I'm very excited about and a lot of the inspiration for shots evolve because these are totally unscripted but the inspiration comes from like falling in love with an idea or quote that is something I wanna say like I want my lips to vibrate with those with those ideas were words become worlds as they say and this one was a nietzsche quote that says and those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music which is wonderful Scottsdale. Yes yeah totally and I was like just just that idea. You know about the genius that sometimes gets misjudged you know because we can't see it and we were like. Oh so the dancing oh they're crazy 'cause we can't hear the music and so I just thought it's one of those lines that I just want to say and then from there went on a whole rant about finding purpose and and individuality and the tension between individuality and conformity and I'm very excited about it awesome so jason this was incredible as you know on TV. We always like to help people turn this incredible insight and inspiration the action so we've got a challenge for you guys today and I am so thrilled about this one Jason. It's inspired by a quote that you love us us. This quote is by Albert Camus. It says life should be lived to the point of tears and of course he's speaking to just living by one's passion answering I answering the call living by one truth until until you're moved to tears yes and so so we want to take that we want to take this idea of being moved to tears. I want to know from you. What do you love so much whether it's a painting a piece of Art. It's a member of your family. It's something thing that you're working on. That really moves you to tears. 246 - 2 Steps To Build Customer Trust, Without Offering Refunds

"Welcome to the Marie Forleo podcast. The audio version of my ward winning show Murray TV now short. Visit Marie Forleo dot com slash Marie TV where you'll find hundreds of other episodes. Thanks for listening. Hey, one quick thing on may eighth. I'm teaching free class the five writing mistakes that are killing your sales and how to fix them. It's going to be awesome. And it is free so go save your seat right now at the copy cure dot com. Hates Marie poor. Leo. And you are watching Marie TV the place to be to create a business and a life that you love and this is CUNY Tuesday. Today's question comes from miss Evelyn, Evelyn writes. Hi, Marie after watching all your recent videos. I've been thinking a lot about the strong sense of trust. You create in your business through free phone calls videos, and newsletters, you come across as genuine friend funny one at that who we can rely on to pursue our dreams as an artist. It's crucial for me to communicate this same sense of trust potential clients in order to get more commission work. However, I'm struggling with where to begin since I can't really offer full refunds once I put paint to canvas I feel like I'm a step behind in the please trust me game. So my question is what are some steps? I can take to communicate a genuine sense of trust to appeal to potential clients. Thank you for your time. Evelyn? Great question Evelyn, creating trust is an essential part of greeding of business and life that you love. But before we go any further, I wanna nip something in the bud. So you talked about feeling step behind in this please trust me game. And I wanna tell you something that is not true. You do not have to offer refunds in order to create trust. Obviously that doesn't work for your business model. So just don't do it. Now. I know you're asking yourself will what do I do then? And I'm gonna give you some insights. But I gotta say in our business. Ironically, we've never really thought about creating trust. And maybe that's why people feel a great sense of trust with us. There's no formula to follow. There's nothing really strategic. We do. Besides be really, honest, really transparent and only do and say what we believe in. So all that being said here are two principles that can help you inspire trust in your customers. Number one is be true to you. So in my company and on this show. We only do things that we re. Really believe in. We only say things that we can stand behind and in my own life both in the business. And personally if I don't feel it I don't do it. And if I don't believe in it. I don't say it bottom line is I don't pretend ever except perhaps. Maybe when I'm playing Smurfs kingdom. And some in you all to get my mushrooms so little behind the scene secret from reteach when we start to write out, these episodes. If I start to make us ingestion. I always ask myself. Wait a minute. Would I actually do this or do I actually do this? If the answer is no, I don't write it. Same thing. If I'm like, oh, I can really relate to this fear. And I check myself and go, wait. I actually don't have that fear that I don't say it and similarly in our business if people try and give us money for things that we don't wanna take money for for example, like putting ads on our site. We just say no as an artist you can and should do this too. So for example, if you're an abstract artist and someone wants you to paint a portrait of their pet ferret named big dick, you can say, no, thank you. I painting dick in other words, if you don't feel it don't do it. And when you're honest with yourself and honest with your market, you will instantly inspire trust number. Or to you want to set clear expectations. So in my company, we are obsessed with letting people know how things are going to work. So for example, if you sign up for our Email us, we tell you. Here's what's going to happen next. Here's when you can expect your from us if you sign up for be school. Here's exactly what's going to happen next. We're going to walk you through the process. Same thing with the live event were always trying to let people know exactly what's going to happen next. What this does is remove fear and uncertainty and completely set people at ease and it inspires trust. As an artist you can do this too. So, you know, the biggest concern people have about a commissioned custom piece their thinking in their minds. What happens if I don't like it? So why not set up a process will you walk people through exactly what's going to happen. So in our business, we commissioned a custom piece of artwork for office. We love it. And the reason I love it is because the artist actually took us through the whole process step by step. She showed us her. Time-line? She allowed us to give feedback. She showed us the progress along the way, and the thing came out amazing now for you as an artist you may not want to give your clients inability to give feedback. So you gotta make the right choice for you. But the point is if you walk people through the process, and you give them an option somewhere to say, you know, what this isn't for me. I'd actually like to back out. They're gonna feel so much more comfortable doing business with you. So let's wrap this up with tweet oval. Filled your business on truth and trust will build itself that was my eighty or Evelyn let us know how it goes. And now, I would love to hear from you. So what makes you trust them one enough to do business with them any do's and don'ts that you'd like to share either from your own business, or as a customer as always the most awesome discussions happen. Hey it's Marie forleo and you are are watching Marie TV the place to be creative business in life you love and this is Q.. And A. Tuesday and today's question comes from a lovely lady lady named Tammy and she writes. Hey Marie thank you for doing what you do. I am grateful for your Cuny. Tuesday's here is my cue. I find myself growing by leaps and and bounds but it seems that I have the urge to share it with everyone around me. I seem to feel as if everyone should listen to me and learn with me. This is not always appreciate appreciate it and it seems to be alienating some people so my question is how do I resist the urge to make everyone around me. See the light well. WHOA WHOA WHOA hold on? Tammy you want to help. Everybody See the light. Have you never seen poltergeist girl. The light is bad. They don't go into the TAMMY. Tammy Tammy this is an awesome question. I've certainly experienced this firsthand when you first start learning about personal development and all these cool philosophies he's of course you want to share with everybody you know. Hey Papas Murph. Did you know that if you were more in the moment your whole life would transform grouchy. She you're using your grouchiness to hide your brilliance. I really think you're dialing upset. SMER fat you really need to claim your feminine in in power and really own your divine goddess. But as you're seeing this approach doesn't always go over so well I mean think about it. You're trying to push self-help help on people and it may actually take them off because essentially what you're saying is they don't know how to do their life. They're pretty screwed up and they need you to come help him out. Essentially they're they're going to say to themselves. who asked you? So here's what you need to do. Don't talk about it. Be about it as the saying goes and this is a pretty good tweet. -able others will follow your footsteps easier than they will your advice. What that means is being example of what you're learning really embodied the ideas and the principles you want to be a living demonstration of all the good stuff? You WanNa be a role model. You don't WanNa preach what you'll find. Is that people in your life are really going to take notice. And they're going to ask you. What's your secret? Or if they're really into it they'll say yes. Yeah I'll have what she's having and that becomes the perfect opportunity to share and see if they want to learn more next you gotta find and your PDP or your personal development posse Tammy you really need to hang out with some like minded people who love talking about this stuff just as much as you you do. Because here's the thing. People like personal development tend to be really into it. We're kind of like personal development. zombies were insatiable and we gobble up books books and audios in program's Kinda like zombies. Gobble up brains owners. Here's the best part there are tons of around. We hang out on blogs like this book clubs in seminars and we're always signing up for another program we may be an an odd bunch but we're out there and our numbers are growing every day. Once you find people who actually WanNa talk about this stuff off you'll feel less compelled to force it on people who don't Tammy that is my eighty your cue thank you so much for asking. Of course let us know how it goes now. I would love to hear hear from you. Have you ever tried to show people the light. How did it go? Did they resist you or did you need to change your approach and try something different as always the best stuff happens after the episode in the comments over at Marie FORLEO DOT com. 230 - CALL-IN: Overcoming Lifes Toughest Challenges

"Hey it's marie forleo and welcome to another episode of the marie forleo podcast. So i'm just going to say it. Twenty twenty continues to be a year. Am i right yes. of course. good. Lord have mercy. Now i know. I am not alone in feeling this year because i can't think of one person. I know who has an experience some form of loss or change or hardship in twenty twenty and when those setbacks begin to stack up both individually and collectively. It's natural to feel that stress and to feel anxious and heartbroken. That's why i wanted to share this call an episode that we filmed before the pandemic touches on topics that are so relevant for right. Now we talk about some powerful perspective shifts. That can help us find clarity and hope and that sense of possibility even when we're in the midst of some really tough times so with that in mind let's dive in your land is gonna call if you feel in store and you need. If you're gonna come pradier accuse hello. Hi. this is marine. You're on tv life. Mulch whose this as fast from brunswick maryland. h-have we're so excited to have you on the show. The kids it start. Why don't you tell us your question. And then we'll dive into a chat. So i save my question so i wouldn't screwed up here so i'm had a rash of bad luck like really bad like i lost my business to a fire and i'm having trouble figuring out who i am because i was always the bakery lady. I've been helping my husband and his barbecue business and it's not me they're like hey it's it's barbecue clean and like no that's not the regulated so. I don't know what to do. But i know that you think everything's figure out a bowl so i need your help all for small. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I think that there's not a person listening to this right now. Myself included who hasn't found ourselves at some point feeling like oh my goodness everything just keeps going wrong. You know whether that's a period of days weeks months or years life has a way of presenting some challenges and sometimes those are really really sorry. Because i can't even imagine what that feels like to lose your bakery to a fire. And i'm so happy that you called us because yes i do believe i know in my bones bath that everything is figure out about and i love that. You're calling right now because that tells me that you to believe it even though we might not have it all figured out quite now. The fact that you're willing to consider that idea is awesome because that means that there's the possibility for growth. There's the possibility for a new perspective. Which hopefully will be able to find that together right now. Cool who awesome so one of the best ideas that i've ever heard this one has been around for a while but i think it's really useful right now. It's this new. It's another belief you'll just like everything is figure out of all. It's an idea that some people don't prescribe to. But i do. And it's the thought that your life happens for you and not to you so sometimes in my life when things seemed to keep going wrong and when i keep bumping into walls again and again just problem after problem after problem. I'll repeat that to myself. As a way to re ground in a notion that i live in a friendly and growth oriented universe and that would ever is occurring right now. There's a possibility for me to see it. Through the lens of this is an opportunity for me to grow. This is an opportunity for me to learn something to get stronger to step back in to reshape. Either how impressing my world. How responding to challenges or there's some thing that's valuable in good there some learning or growth opportunity in this. If i'm willing to look for it and find it now. I know that might sound pollyanna. It's easy for you to say you didn't lose your business to a fire but when things go wrong in any of our lives i feel like the only thing we can control is how we contextualized what actually happened. And then how we choose to respond to that experience right. It's like the life preserver. I hold onto very similar to the notion that everything is figure out -able it allows me to pull myself back up and look through clear lines. Have you ever heard that idea before. Beth believe you've thought the one about life happening for you and not to you. It makes sense. It's this it's hard to until you ugly between you and gabriel byrne's seen what until one of you to say it. It doesn't really happen for me. Yes and so. Hey same thing for me right. I love picking up books. I love listening to audio on. Podcast i think that that is the service that we can provide. One another is to remind each other of truths that we know deep down but just sometimes in our human day to day lives that we can forget so. I'm curious what actions you're taking right now in terms of her that you're working with your husband and his particular business but i'm curious if you have a plan to kind of start. Resetting yourself and regaining or re stepping into. What you feel like is more you rather than him really. I started to put out the fact. I can still make to come home and to the different realm and it's but the whole time that both our businesses were going mine was too brownies tune. La brownies two dollar brownies and his ten dollars sandwich. In which so. I wasn't going to go anywhere with that. That's so that's why i like. You said in one of yours. Things was if you keep trying and you just don't know if you're even why are you still trying you know and that's the other fight. It's like from home and the farmers markets like originally started. But i don't always that. Well let me ask you this when you imagine yourself starting to bake from home again. Close your eyes for a moment. I just want you to tap into your heart. If you can take a deep breath closer is imagine yourself starting the bake from home going back to those farmers markets in selling your brownies or whatever. It is else that you might wanna bake and sell. Do you feel a sense of expansion and excitement or do you feel a sense of dread or pulling back just the first thing that comes to your heart and your mind wickets excitement. Okay but i thought. I tested the theory and found. It wasn't right. Well here's what i want to propose to you. So just the idea the notion of you baking again which it sounds like. You're not doing right now right. I might have a cake in the oven. Well that makes me. I wish i could come havoc with you. beth is. I am a fan of the cake. Here's the thing just the fact that you feel a little bit of excitement. You do not have to commit to doing this. Long term had any kind of setback or any kind of challenge and we feel a little bit off kilter. I always feel like getting back in the game and getting moving again and having momentum is how we find clarity so you probably remember this. Another one of my favorites clarity comes from engagement. Not thought so if even the notion of you going like hey just for the next two months. I'm going to start making my brownies again. I'm gonna. I'm gonna make some cakes or maybe i wanna change my pricing structure. Maybe ought to be the most expensive brownies. At the farmer's market people will be like once that put in those brownies because this must be something special. I don't know. But i do know that by you taking steps towards what feels joyous and what feels exciting to you. Your next steps are going to appear. They never come when we're sitting on the couch thinking about it. They don't come from a place of stuck nece or or when i say stillness i don't mean meditation and that's awesome but i just mean hanging out waiting for the answers to come to us. I find that the best insights come when we're moving physically moving taking a spin class being on a treadmill taking run outside walking through a park on on a hike or moving doing the actions that we feel could lead us in the directions of our dreams. You don't need to know the big picture right now. My friend you just need to get moving again and then start paying attention to the signals. Who knows you're going to the farmer's market who knows what's going to happen once you start making those brownies and an email comes in from nowhere. We can't predict what's going to show up. But i can tell you this if you follow the joy and you follow the excitement. That's where the magic in life lies. And i think that's what's going to help you start regaining matt sense of identity that you haven't been in touch with recently and that's what's going to have your energy start moving again and the next steps really will reveal themselves your amazing thank you so much. Everything seems like like you just lifted a veil. It makes complete sense. Well i don't know you just got us real hungry. I'm like wanting to brownie. Dairy free doesn't help. It actually really does help. Because we've got at least one member of team leo. Who must have gluten free and vegan. Come on. I'm telling you drivers like what you're coming over exactly exactly gonna dirty. Yes so i'll tell you what you keep going. Keep us posted but stay in touch. I think there's another lesson that can come out of this for you. You know we were talking about this idea. That life is always happening for me not to me. If you take some time in journal about i would challenge you to find ten great lessons. That have come out of this experience and i know one of them right now and again. This is gonna sound kind of a little self indulgent. I don't mean it that way at all. It may not be me that you found value in a there could be lots of other people that i know for me when i get out of the habit of staying in touch with things that inspire me or doing things that i know are really great for my mind body or soul and i leave those habits or practices and then i'm like what the hell did i stopped doing that for. That was working for me. Why did i drop off or fall off the wagon. So one year lessons is to stay in touch with sources of inspiration and motivation. That really resonate for you and those might change over the years but have something that you can always listen to digest or read. That's going to remind you of your greatness and that's going to help you stay on track with your heart's greatest desire. Thank you summer. you're so welcome. Thank you we believe in you. And you are watching Marie TV the place to be to create a business in life you love and today, I wanna make a declaration about procrastination I declare that not all forms of crest nation off created equal. And I believe that some forms of cross nation have unjustly got. People are always trying to overcome it and beat it down. And the sad fact is cross patients. Got whipped hotter than Anastacia steal, fifty shades. Want proof? Here comes procrastination right now. You've been bad bad Creston nation. I'm just kidding. Not all that bad. Now. Rather than beating yourself up for procrastinating. I want to challenge you to see it from a new perspective. Here's what I mean. What if sometimes you're procrastination isn't such a bad thing would have some part of you deep down inside knows that this is your last chance to turn around before you go down show lane the point where if your life were horror movie, the audience would all be yelling at the screen saying. Oh, no don't do. It. Don't go down there. People. Here's an example for my own life school and seven years ago. Actually, it was just last year. I was considering doing a business deal with someone. I put it on our project list. And we wanted to move ahead. Now, I surround myself with drivers people who get things done. But for some reason this deal was not moving ahead. We look at the project everyday, but somehow we'd push it to the back burner. And then we'd feel bad about procrastinating until. One day. I got this crazy pants phone call from that person. We were supposed to do the deal with that made me see exactly why we procrastinated. Even if we didn't know it yet. This person went postal over such a tiny detail that it made me wonder, how did I not catch this sooner? Clearly, we were not meant to do business together. And thank God, no contracts. I'm inside. In other words. Thank god. We procrastinated. Now. This isn't the only time that procrastination has been a blessing. Not a curse the point. Is that now I know if I'm procrastinating uncharacteristically, it may be a sign that something is seriously off the bottom line is this and yes, it's a tweet -able. Sometimes putting it off is a sign you need to call it off. What say you on this topic? Oh, brilliant, one have you ever found that procrastination was actually a good thing? If so what were the signs that gave you the indication that this was different? It wasn't your run of the mill wait till last minute habit. 250 - Does Your Desire For More Cash Make You Unspiritual?

"The. Welcome to the Marie Forleo podcast. The audio version of my award-winning show Murray TV now short. Visit Marie Forleo dot com slash Marie TV where you'll find hundreds of other episodes. Thanks for listening. Hey, there, it's marine four Leo. And you are watching Marie TV the place to be to create a business and life you love. And this is cute and a free contused isn't that awesome another day for you? It's great. Today's question comes from Lena and miscellany writes. Hi, marie. I love your book and Marie TV is very inspirational. I have more of a spiritual question for you. I really want to be a great high end photographer and to do that. I need lots of money to learn the craft and by top the line cameras. So I'll take any opportunity to work, and earn money. But this focus on making money, even though I believe in what I'm doing is turning me into a machine. I feel like it's bad to earn a lot of money and that it's not spiritual. And I've become too materialistic. Can you give me some advice on how to be cool with the idea of making money? Elena, this is a great question because money and spirituality is a very hot button topic. So I know you're asking yourself, is it? Unspiritual to wanna make money. I shallow if I wanna make more. Let me tell you something. Women I consider myself a very spiritual person, and I love making money now, not just for money sake, but more specifically for what it can facilitate in terms of me being able to contribute to others to create experiences and to enjoy my life. And I've always felt this way ever since I was a little kid. Now when I was growing up my family didn't have a lot of money. My parents worked their buns off. So we always had, but we needed, but we were never rolling in the dough. But one thing I'm really appreciative for is I learned a healthy respect for money. In fact, when I was a little girl anytime I would get my hands on some I would go to the sink. I would wash it and then I would iron it, so I could keep it all organized. That is how much I love my money. So here's the thing. Elena money is awesome. But I sense from your question that you're freed, you're too focused on it right now. And here's the thing you might be, especially if you've lost sense of your ability to have fun while you're making it and you've lost touch with the deeper reason you're trying to earn so much in the first place, if you want the recipe to create a life you love you need to key ingredients achievement and fulfilment achievement is about accomplishing and reaching your goals, and very often making money as part of the achievement puzzle. The film it, however, is about something deeper and richer. It's about feeling fulfilled and having creativity and passion and enjoyment, and all that good stuff in your life. And here's the thing you need both. If you wanna be happy, I wanna tell you something Elena. And yes, it's a tweet able. When a chief -ment is divorced from fulfilment, you lose custody of your happiness. Sounds to me like you may be a little too heavily focused on the achievement aspect of your life. And you need to consciously bring fulfillment into what you're doing so you gotta ask yourself. How can you bring passion and fulfillment and contribution, and meaning and fun to everything that you're doing? How can you reconnect to your heart and bring that true sense of passionate? Meaning to every single thing that you're doing to earn this money. My advice, be passionate. And every single moment, you're working now on the other hand, if you already love what you're doing. And you're just feeling guilty wanting more money than you are creating unnecessary drama, where you don't need to have it. My friend, Joe polish calls money fun tickets. And I love that definition of money money is just there to help you experience things that you want experience. It's meant to flow. There's nothing evil or dirty about it. So think about it. If you go to your. Favorite restaurant for dinner. You're supporting that restaurant all the people that work in it. If you buy piece of jewelry, you are supporting an artisan in her craft. And if you want to give some away, you can help tackle an issue in the world that you wanna see solved the more successful. You are the bigger difference. You'll make in the world and the more people, you're going to serve, and that is plenty spiritual. If you ask me, so Elena that is my aide to your cue. I know so many of us have conflicts between money and spirituality. So thank you so much for asking it now. I wanna hear from you. Do you have any limiting beliefs about money that either limit how much you make or how much you enjoy what you do make in the comments below? I wanna hear your specific limiting belief and this is very important. I want to hear the new empowering belief that you can replace it with, as always the best of happens after the episode over at Marie Forleo dot com. So go there and leave a comment. It's a brand new program that you can only get if you preordered the book before september tenth order your copy now at everything figure out -able dot com today if acuna tuesday's sarah sarah from oh my raw rights i'm launching a new raw foods business and i have one main competitor. I can't seem to get out of my mind. We'll she think i'm a fraud. We'll she hate me. I know that competition is good for business. But how far do i take it. Do i introduce myself. Do i tend to rob potlucks that she hosts in town or should i keep to myself and focused on my own client face first of all girl we have all been there all started something new and then seen someone who's further ahead than us which often results in what's known as the dreaded comparison hangover the comparison hangover is what you get when you go on a bender and you spend way too much time thinking about obsessing about and googling your competition and the wind up feeling like ask so your first assignment is to spend the majority of your time working on you all business for aw so you can make it as amazing as if you really wanna kick some major by you wanna stop thinking small. Don't look at one competitor. You wanna look at what's happening in your entire a higher industry because the truth is there's tens of thousands of raw food coaches out in the world and they're all pedal in the same business. Ask yourself what objections or frustrations our customers having with hiring raw food coaches and how can you look outside and do something outside of the box to innovate your industry for example. When i first started out there were a couple competitors that i do obsessed about that. Then i got smart and i stopped looking at just headers and started looking at the whole industry and asked myself. How can i do things differently so when i first got started most people in personal development orange business advice was very touchy feely. It was very conservative. Uh no one was doing what i like to call real tall and no one was really keeping it fun and light hearted and doing things that were edgy. So of course i came along and changed all that another example is many of the conference i would go to either personal development or business conferences were known as pitch best meaning that you would get there and all it was one pitch after the other to sell you these really expensive programs or just everybody on stage was just a dog and pony show so that really didn't feel so good to me so i created a conference call bridge happy and hot live. I have which is a pitch free conference. It's selling out year after year. One of the reasons is because it's very different than anything else in you can and should do this to make make lists of everything that happens in your industry that you think should change and then go ahead and change it. You wanna make your business different full expression of you once you make that the foundation foundation of how you're spending your time it's going to be a lot easier for you and get to know that main competitor and in all honesty not really competitor. She's a colleague of yours and it'll be great free to to get to know her and since there are plenty of clients to go round. Wouldn't it be awesome. If you guys could send the overflow to each other so for example you might come across the clients that you know is not really new perfect it for you can fill line off to your colleague and on the flip side. It's likely that if you start sending her business when someone's not a good fit for her her she's likely going to send them to you. Bottom line is competitors. Do not have to hate each other. She does not have to be your evil arch nemesis so let's land this plane. Here's so we want you to do. Sarah put all of your energy and attention into making your business as great as it can be and that means looking at the whole industry and seeing how you can make your business different and dan better and then of course get no that fine young lady. She's not just a competitor. She is a colleague. That's my eighty year q sarah. Thank you so much for asking now. Here's is what i wanna know from you. Hey it's Marie forleo and you are watching TV the place to be to create a business and life you love and this is cuny to stack and today's question comes from Tracy and she writes hi Marie I'm starting to make a name for myself and my friends and strangers are coming out of the woodwork asking if they can pick my brain or bounce ideas off off me or grab a coffee to ask me about my business and share their ideas first of all I feel like they should buy my product a training program that would answer most of their questions but I don't WanNa see money hungry or super sales e with my friends second <music>. I'm busy building and running my own business and I don't have the time to spare. I'm not sure how to deal with this. I've just been ignoring all request and feeling guilty. What do I say to people who WanNa grab coffee or pick my brain tracy? This is a great question. She didn't something so many of us struggle with. I know it can feel really uncomfortable to say no but when you ignore things like this it completely nags at you you feel guilty as you've already said and plus all these requests keyed up a ton of your mental and emotional bandwidth remember that people are always grateful for an honest answer especially when it's delivered a loving and Compassionate Way and remember there's lots of ways that you can help people for free spur example. You can direct people to blog content. You can do a set amount of pro bono work. You can offer scholarships however if you're starting to get bombarded with tons of requests for people to pick your brain or meet for coffee and you don't want to do it here are three scripts that you can use script number one. This spice girl script or in my work schedule is full so coffee is not doable these days. Are you interested in becoming a client or do you just have a quick question. This makes the asker get real about what they really want from you. So if they want to become a client you can direct them to yourself material and if they have a question they know they'll need to be really quick script number to pay me mother hubbub. Look I know you don't WanNa seem overly sales -I but you've gotta get your experience experience and your expertise are valuable loss. You deserve to earn an honest living my friend Todd Herman has this great analogy for brain pickers and I think it can really help shift your mindset. Here's how he puts it. Would you ever walk into a store walk. Walk up and grab clothes off Iraq and then walk out without paying of course not because that would be stealing still brain picker. Don't expect to walk into my head. Grab everything you want and walk out without paying. Here's a classy way of directing people to your product or program. I'm not available for lunch but you should really consider getting my LANC. It's all of my best thinking in one place and I created to help people in your exact situation or if you don't have a product. Dr Program try this. I don't have time to grab a coffee unless we're doing it as an official business meeting and my charge consultation if your game is script number three blaming among the toughest one can be when it semi social and they wanna WanNa grab coffee to get to know you want to network and likely pick your brain f why they will pick your brain so you know how this goes. Hey Murray I love what you do you like you and me were like the same person percents bananas right so I'm really into meeting like minded people and expanding my network of awesome powerful woman and I'd love to meet with you and have coffee some time. Would you be up for that well. What are you going to say no? I don't have time for new friends actually yes. You are going to see that but here's a nice way to say it so you don't come across like an arrogant d. bag now if you don't know what a d. bag is. I'm going to tell you but I don't WanNa get yelled out because there's a bunch of bags out there. Who Love to yell at me? I have a rule if. I don't have time to see my mother. I don't have time to meet New People for coffee and right now. I Oh my Mama visit the seriously. I'm sure we have a blast and I hope you're not insulted but my work schedule is packed and I've gotta pass the bottom line. Is this and you bet your buns. It's tweakable if they want to pick your brain asthma pick a time and a method of payment because at the end of the day if you want people to value your time you I'll have to put a value on it tracy. That was my aid to your queue. Hopefully these scripts have helped now. I would love to hear from you. Do you have a Go-to way to answer people who want to pick your brain or take you out for coffee or have you ever. I've been that person who's asking to take someone out to coffee or pick their brain where you handled elegantly. 242 - Distracted? 6 Ways to Stop Interruptions When You Work At Home

"The. Welcome to the Marie Forleo podcast. The audio version of my ward winning show Murray TV now short. Visit Marie Forleo dot com slash Marie TV where you'll find hundreds of other episodes. Thanks for listening. Hey, it's marine four Leo. And you are watching Marie TV's the place to be if you wanna create of business and life you love and this is QNA Tuesday. And today's question comes from Elena, and she writes, hi, Marie so many of us work from home. Whether we're studying or running a business. Do you have any tips how to keep other house members from causing distractions? Great question Elena, but you know, I don't really have distractions when I'm working either that or I just don't notice them. But seriously here are six simple things, you can do to stop interruptions, when you work from home number one issue of route alert, let people know your work schedule and tell them you're going to be unresponsive. If they try to interrupt you during those hours, you can say something like look on the work for the next three hours. If you try and interrupt me, I'm going to be rude. But I still love you number to close the door. Sounds obvious. But an open door can be a signal for others to come in and citizens also so make sure when you're working you close the door and for bonus points, you can hang one of these bad boys up. We're going to talk through some strategies to break that burnout cycle. And we're also going to talk about how you can design the most inspiring productive schedule for you now. This is such an important skill set to develop so that you can achieve more of the right things and be less stressed while you do it so with bad mind. Let's dive in. hello hello. this is marie who's this. Hi some banca bianca. Welcome you're on. The tv live colin show. And you're here with myself. And gregory and team four leo. And we're really excited to talk with you today. I'm very excited very excited and shy but very excited. You're going to be great so tell us what's happening and we'll do our very best to help you out. And so i recently realized that i don't feel or think that i've been setting myself realistic goals in trying to build my business my online business and i'm really stuck. I feel very stuck about this. Because i was big vision. I have so many things that i wanna do what. I know that. I have to start step by step. And i'm trying to focus on one thing. But i i start to get into it and then something happens a fall back and i have a really busy offline business so i'm a holistic therapists and i have a really busy offline business so i don't have much time daily to spend on the online business building it and i'm just. I feel very stock on how to set realistic goals. I wanna have my website up in about two and a half months time and actually very realistic. Then when i get into the daily life of it doesn't work out so first of all what you're describing is really comment so thank you so much for sharing so honestly i'm curious you said it twice you said i know i get into something and then something happens. Can you be more specific with us. About what the something happens. Actually is really much more busy in my online offline practice. I have class that i'm teaching. I have to prepare for. I have a visitor coming in from out of town. I'm also in the midst of training to develop my skills so i'll have to sidetrack for training tired. There's those that aspect. I feel very very tired all the time. I'm i'm kind of edging towards out. And i'm really trying to be mindful of that and sometimes i just want to sleep because i just really tired and a half to be available for those sessions. Do offline like my. My clients are number one right now absolutely absolutely. I think you're describing a situation that many of us have found ourselves in and that many of us can relate to so. I'm gonna ask a few more questions because that's how i can get really accurate picture. The best way to support you in to having a different experience so you can achieve more and feel good while you do it so curious as to what time you're getting up in the morning and how often you are exercising or working out per week and this is not a question designed to create a negatively or judgment. It's just think about this. Like just we wanna and a little snapshot in an assessment. Yeah so. I have zero zero cubs building. Yeah zero i wake up. I start at one and i usually tend to finish at ten thirty pm. And i go nonstop Sometimes i started tannin. I go till ten pm. Ten thirty pm nonstop. And i usually get up two hours before i have to go so i usually get up at eleven. Am if i'm working at one enough. I'm working at ten am getting up at like eight thirty. Am and i'm working on. Stop till evening time. Al-qaeda great so this is the place that we need to look. 'cause it's not necessarily about being able to set realistic goals. But i think it's actually taking a further step back and setting yourself up for success starting with how you're designing your day. What time you're getting up some of the first things that you're doing during the day and making sure that your scheduling yourself so you're not jam packed because i know for any of us. Humans we're not built like computers. You can't see this. But i'm holding up my laptop right now. Computers are made to run nonstop. Bright we can turn them on. We can hammer away all day with not taking a break and pretty much. They're gonna keep running day after day because there are a machine but we humans are built differently and if we don't architect our day in the right way if we don't build in rest exercise hydration give ourselves free open space white space just to dream or to think or to play. We are going to put ourselves in that position. Where burnout is a real thing. And then it's gonna put us so far back that it's gonna take ten times more to get back to base zero nevertheless reaching our biggest dreams. So i know this may not be the answer that you are thinking of but i want to encourage you to take a look at rather than designing realistic goals is how can you design the most inspiring schedule for your day and your week so that you're optimizing who you are and what you can contribute to this world and i'll tell you something bianca i am. Someone who believes in a philosophy called simplified to amplify that less is more. It's been one of the secrets that's allowed me over. The last two decades to continue to not only achieve things that are really important to me in my business but to expand and grow in what i'm capable of taking on and to do so in a way where i'm not burnt out where i'm not getting sick. I'm gonna knock on wood right now. Just because i'm a little superstitious. And that's what i like to do. But it's actually been several years since i've been sick and i've done more in these years than i've ever done possible on probably one of the best shape of my life. I feel really good now by the way i'm not saying this to say. Hey look how great. I am because i've also put myself into places where there's burn out where i've gotten sick where i felt like crap where my relationships on the line so i've been on both sides of this equation and i can tell you that one of the biggest differences that i made that allowed me to create the results that i'm really proud of is designing my day with intention and being really really clear about when i'm going to bed and when i'm waking up i'll give you an example. Just last night. My stepson came over. We were all having. Dinner was a really beautiful time. And somebody said hey. Why don't we have some wine. And i knew that today was a day for filming to me. I knew that. I wanted to wake up at about five o'clock in the morning and start writing and doing other things that i had to do. Other folks had wine. I did not. I made sure. I got to bed by ten pm so that when i woke up this morning right i was a little tired but i actually felt great and i was able to do everything i wanted to do. So my recommendation for you is to take a step back to look at your calendar and to start designing an ideal day week and month and scaleback. We want you to do less so you can accomplish more. And i guarantee most of us have little pockets of places. I certainly always look for them. They're almost like weeds that grow up in our calendar whether it's looking at technology or there's just certain habits that we have i can say that one for you right now is just not moving your body and i know i'm just reminding something that you already know but i think all of us need reminders from time to time to get back into the practice of what we know is going to be best for us that when you move your body you don't even have to work out for a full hour. It could be twenty minutes every day. It can be. Some yoga can be some things that you're doing on an app from your phone. It could be walking around the block and getting fresh air but that movement energizes you. It helps your mind be able to focus more clearly more singly on. Whatever you're doing so you actually accomplish more in less time. I've seen this happen in my own career time and time again. I'm gonna pause right now. I want to see if gregory wants to add anything because he's not an up and down because i'm in the same spot you know what i mean and i feel like one thing that you said architect our day yes. I think that's personally going to help me as well because it'll keep me on track and those little other nuances that pop up. I can almost sort them into my next day or the following day. If i stay focused. And then i'm also thinking like just bianca personally to asking for help is such a huge thing that i do and i'm like well it's my dream. It's my business. It's my goals. It's my day but other people can help us achieve those as well and one of the greatest lessons. I've learned recently even marie. I've personally gone through some things that i needed to ask for help in delegating some tasks so that the job got done you know that might be something to look at as well as saying i might need a little how it's think about it like if you're building your dream house right and you had this beautiful piece of property and you had the ability to build whatever was gonna be the home of your dreams. You wouldn't do it haphazardly. You wouldn't just go in and start slapping somewhat around. I you would architect it. You would design it on paper and once you designed it on paper. You'd would have much more likely of a chance to have that dream house built than if you didn't and we could do the same things with our days with our weeks with our months and cumulatively that has up to our lives so i don't know if this is resonating for you let me know but i know it's completely possible for you bianca to turn this ship around. Yes it's resonating with me for sure. I just still feel overwhelmed by it. But yes Looking at it from the point of view of how inspiring schedule for the day. Yes and just know that your your most important asset in your life. Meaning your the most important asset that you're bringing to your therapy sessions until your clients. You're the most important asset that you're bringing your mission in this world which is to help people heal so take that first part of the day and devoted to taking care of you again through movement and exercise if meditation is something that you're in two or maybe you're into prayer or journaling. I know that for me. Meditation has been incredible because my brain is very very active and it helps me clear the slate for the day and stay really really focused and then also reviewing what i actually have to get done so looking at my journal looking at exactly what needs to happen today so that i don't get taken off track by the things that can pop in my inbox or you know if someone taxed or there's a fire that has to go out. I know precisely what i need to get done in order to feel successful for the day by the way that's not twenty five things that's usually like two or three and i know anything beyond that is a bonus so one last thing that i'll share with you You need to stop being so hard on yourself. You're such a beautiful human being. You're working so very hard. And i can tell you this that the path to not only getting more done but to enjoying this beautiful adventure we have called. Life is to be kind to you. That really is the secret that allows everything else to unfold. It's going to permeate your relationship with your clients. It's going to inspire you to do higher level higher level work and you're going to have this feeling of being burnt out constantly chasing your dreams. That's just going to start to melt away. there's no race my love. I know we live in a culture that kind of pushes us to hustle twenty four seven and never take a break. But you know this in your heart. It's not a sustainable model. And the only one that can make the changes that are necessary to have you have this experience of life is you thank you. You're so welcome. Thank you so much. I'm very honored to be on colin. Show on it to speak to you. Well please do us a favor. Will you keep us posted. I'd love you to take some time today. And just start to map out. What would it look like for you to have a day where you feel energized where you took care of you i. What time would you wake up in the morning. What time would you go to sleep. What are the kind of activities that you would put into that day. And where can you start to scale back. Where can you find those pockets of time to leave some open space. Where can you say no to something that you might be cramming in because you know what having a full night's rest or taking twenty minutes to meditate is actually going to help you achieve more with less stress so take sometimes today to do that and most importantly are going to have to implement. But i'd love you to keep us posted. Let us know how it goes. I can promise you just a week's worth of working out in the morning. Even for twenty minutes can change your whole mindset your whole energy level and how you approach each and every day thank you so much i will definitely keep you posted yet and i look forward to keeping you posted. Thanks bianca we believe in you. Thank you bye is my goodness. I am so happy that bianca called in to ask for help because look burn out. 248 - 3 Branding Ideas You Can Learn From Artifact Uprising

"Welcome to the Marie Forleo podcast. The audio version of my ward winning show Murray TV now short. Visit Marie Forleo dot com slash Marie TV where you'll find hundreds of other episodes. Thanks for listening. Hey, it's Marie four. Leo. And you are watching TV the place to beat a crate a business and a life that you love and today's awesome because it's one of our favorite segments called. In this segment. We highlight a business that just gets it from their messaging to their website all the way through to their product. They're just awesome. And today, I want to focus on a brand that I recently discovered called artifact uprising. So what they do is they create high quality physical prints from your digital photos and even from Instagram now while you're going to discover they're doing tons of things, right? I wanna focus on three smart strategies that you can use in your business starting today. Smart strategy number one is you've got to drive desire and the best way to drive desire is to know what you're really selling and focus on that. And these people do it. Well, so they're not just selling easy prints of your digital photos with the really selling is a feeling of connection to ourselves to our memories and to our milestones. And in this digital age. That's something. That's missing check it out every. Everywhere you look on their site. There's a feeling of touch ability of beautiful meaningful objects that ground us in the real world. And check out this smarty pants line off your device and into your life. It's got a great double. Meaning we're getting your photos off your device into your life. And we're getting you off your device and into your life. So they do a great job of making us realize that our lives are not on our phones there about real people and high quality things that we can share with real people that we actually love. So what they're really selling is connection. And now I want you to ask yourself. What are you really selling? If you like this topic. And you want to go deeper we did a whole video about it. And I'll put the link below smart strategy number two. Is you want to work your y? So as our friend Simon cynic says people don't buy what you do they buy why you do it and artifact uprising a brilliant job of letting us know why they do what they do. They are super clear. In their purpose. And they let you know all over the place have a look under the purpose within every product section. You can see that. They love the outdoors and strive to use recycled and reclaim materials wherever possible they use mountain beetle pinewood, which is otherwise considered waste material. And as US based company, they make their products in the USA, and it gets even better as they say our calendars and woodblock prints provide jobs for dull with intellectual and developmental disabilities. So as you can see they talk about the why behind what they do on every part of their site. It's honest, it's heart based, and of course, it inspire sales. So now you've got to ask yourself. Are you clear on the why behind what you do? Are you clear about what you stand for? And most importantly, are you doing a good job letting us all know about it smart strategy number three is you wanna highlight your humanity? So in a world where everyone's trying to pretend to be bigger than who. Who they are often say we when it just one person behind a laptop artifact uprising is amazing because they're small and they're proud of it take a look here. They say we've grown from three people working in a basement to a team of twelve yet. The roots remain the same. We pride ourselves on being a small company, and we think that matters because at the end of the day, we take it personally all of it. We take it personally that is such a beautiful and vulnerable reminder that there's a real person and real people at this company who actually care if you buy their products, and this is another example. So I recently ordered some prints from them. And when I got my package in the mail. I opened it up and the first thing I saw was this beautiful card, and then I flipped it over. And this message really touched me, we stand behind the products, we create if you're not happy with the quality of your order, or you believe your product has a manufacturing defect or shipping damage, please contact us. So we can make it right? Right. Those last nine wars they are everything please contact us. So we can make it right? You know in today's world people are so quick to take their upsets and their complaints. And they're grapes straight to social media. And I love that artifact uprising saying, hey, look, everything doesn't go perfect all the time. So if there's a problem come to us, so we can fix it. They take so much pride in what they do. And again, they're leading with their humanity. And even the fact that this is on like beautiful heavy card stock. This is something so different than you would get from a huge big box company. So I want you to ask yourself take a look at your sales process. Are there any places that you can add more humanity back into your business? Now, there's lots more that this company is doing right so go check them out at artifact, uprising dot com. They are amazing now, let's turn the focus back to you and your business. Remember insight without action is worthless. So I which one of these three smart strategies could help you the most. I and what's one action step? You could take right now to move all of this ahead. 212 - Is This All There Is? How to Create a New Life Vision

"The. Okay. It's Marie Forleo. And this is the podcast version of our word winning show. Marie TV. Now, the video version has some useful and entertaining visuals. So if you want to check that out go to Marie Forleo dot com forward slash Marie TV, real find this and hundreds of other episodes. Thanks so much for listening. Hey, it's marine for Leo. And you are watching Marie TV the place to be to create a business in life, you love and this whole thing. Jig CUNY to stay you. And I as in cues, let's do this. Today's question comes from D. And she writes, hi, Marie. I'm a follower from India since I was a young girl. I wanted to start my own business travel the world and make a name for myself and more today at three one I've achieved most of that. So my question is what do you do after your dreams? Come true. How do I get the same drive and passion I had when I was twenty four before. I achieved all my goals. Ten realized my dreams d this is a fantastic question. Something so many of us can relate to we set some goals. We achieved them, and then we look around and say is this all there is you may know this already, but it certainly bears repeating we human beings need more than just a cheating. Our goals to be happy. We need to constantly challenge. Ourselves we need to learn and. Grow, and we need to contribute to others. But here's the most important thing that we need. We need a compelling vision for our future as Rosa Beth moss Kanter said, and yes, it's a tweet will. A vision is not just a picture of what could be it's an appeal to our better selves, a call to become something more. I'd love to ask you d what's your long-term vision? What kind of things do you want experience in your life over the next five ten twenty or thirty years? What kind of things do you want to do in this world? How do you want to make an impact is it through your family's at through some creative endeavor? Is there some problem that you wanna see solved or try this one on for size? Imagine yourself far far far into the future on your deathbed because yes, some day were all going to be there describe the kind of life you want to look back on what do you wanna do with your life? How will you've spent the decades that you've been here on the surf these questions can help stimulate your imagination and reignite your dreams because I believe that each of us has a deep inner hunger for something more, and that every single one of us is here for a reason. Now d- I don't know if you. I believe in God some higher creative force or the universe. But if you're open to it. I would also suggest asking for guidance and be open to receiving it. I'm born and raised Catholic girl in my twenties. I remember journaling into God, particularly when I felt stuck and I would say you gave me gifts. I'm here to use them. God show me the way and speaking of the early twenties don't discount hormones as a possible factor for all that passion, you had at twenty four the same thing that makes you wanna go out dancing all night and do other things all night. Brings a lot of passion to everything else you're into now. I'm not saying you can't recapture that feeling, but you gotta admit we all have a little bit of an extra helping hand when we're young. It's kind of like hamburger helper except as made a hormones. Hey. I like that. That's my eighty year. Q. D let us know how it goes. Now, I would love to hear from you. Have you ever reached all of your goals and had a is this all there is moment? What did you do to get reinspired? And even if you haven't I believe all of us need, a bigger vision for our future. And I would love to hear yours as always the best stuff happens after the episode over at Marie folio dot com. 311 - How To Be Direct with a Business Partner or Friend

"Welcome to the Marie Forleo podcast. It's time to get inspired. Grows stronger and can get tools to create a business and life you love. Hey One more thing. Do you think three words can change your life. I say they can Dan and in fact they will whether you WANNA leave a dead end job. Breaking addiction learned dance. Healer relationship grow business. Master your money or even solve world hunger the three words you need our way for it. Everything is figure out a ball. I gotta say that little phrase has changed my life and it's the title of my a new book which is about to change yours. It's available now so go get your copy at everything is dot com. Hey there it's Marie Forleo uh-huh and you are watching Marie TV. The place to be to create a business and a life you love and this whole. SHINDIG IS CUNA Tuesday. Today's question comes from Kara. And she writes. I'm Ray I went into partnership with my best friend. Sometimes it's extremely hard to talk to her because she reverts to our friendship and ends up taking everything. Personally we write a blog and none of her articles are ever spellcheck and her grammar is horrendous. I haven't been able to tell her this exactly instead. I say day. We should both take a writing class or we both need to be spell checking before publishing but this approach still has not made her change. I need to find ways for us to better communicate so we stop having all this pent-up aggression towards each other and actually get things done. I really need your help. What can I do carrot. This is a great question so you know what I think. We should take a class together. And how not to be passive aggressive. What do you think you think that sounds good or does it sound like total. Bs because you know. When I'm saying we I really mean you now Cara. I know on poke in a bit of fun here. And we all do the passive aggressive thing from time to time but being direct is really the best way ago. It's the most loving caring respectful way to communicate with your friend. And of course get more things done. I'm speaking from experience here because I work with my friends on a regular basis and I totally totally get that it can be a tricky balance but being direct as a skill set that anybody can develop and master so here four steps to being more direct with your business partner. Our step number one communicate in real time. Do not let days weeks or months. Go by if something upset. You WanNA clear the air fast and forgive completely completely so for example. One time I was working with my friend. Let's call her Sarah and she was a few minutes late and I found myself frustrated so instead of letting it fester I said hey before we start I just wanNA clear the air. So there's no weirdness. It's really important to me that you're on time and when you're not I'm thrown off. I don't WanNa come across like heart asser Nag and I'm not trying to make you feel feel battle but going forward. I love to be on time. Is that cool after that. Sarah and I had a great chat. We had an awesome working day and we still work together all the time. Step up number two own your experience and your feelings. Don't blame the other person so sticking with the example above. I was feeling frustrated. But it wasn't Sarah's fault I.. They had expectations about her being on time. But I didn't communicate them clearly so that was my responsibility so my feelings are my feelings. She didn't cause them by me. Really owning my experience and then communicating. What I'd love to see happen moving forward. She wasn't put on the defensive. It was win win. Step number three. Say what you mean in your question. You said we should take a writing class or we should spell check and that's not really what you meant now. Is it Cara. I know that being direct isn't always easy so I want you to try this. When you're by yourself you WANNA say the unedited version allowed or write it down and then you get to clean it up before for real so for example your unedited version may sound on something like you never spell. Check your workmates. Making us both with like idiots. You're being lazy and it pisses me off so now that you got That out of you you can clean it up and say something like I want us to be taken seriously and that means our emails need to be free from spelling and grammar mistakes. Today's question is from shannon and shannon shannon writes. I often feel like my family and friends. Don't understand me my passions or my business. How do you get over the fear of judgment by others especially elite from family a juicy one janet real juicy shannon. This is a really common question especially for those who have unusual businesses but the very the first thing you need to do. Is this your here's what i mean shannon and we human beings have an ability to get others to judge us for what we judge ourselves for. How deep if you're at all insecure unsure about what you do you have an ability to evoke a reaction others as though you have this big blinking neon sign right above your head that says asked me about my business so you can judge me for how weird it is for example. When i was in my early twenties i was really insecure about saying what i did for a living because has it was weird and nontraditional member like five things. That was a hip hop dancer. I was a writer. I was a coach all kinds of stuff. I would actually get people to ask me what i did for a living and constantly so here's what's interesting the moment that is stop judging myself for being a weird multi passionate entrepreneur the frequency of people asking hi. What do you do for a living went down drastically coincidence. I think not so the first and most important step is to stop judging yourself once. She got got that under control here for more action steps. You can take number one. Don't just assume they're judgmental a whole because they don't get what you do what about this would have do never really taken the time to explain it to them number two if you've explained to them and they still think you're weird then you need to stop trying to go for their approval of wanting to change how people think and feel about you is crazy. Leg kuku razi come on now that is therapy wanna one number three is to be happy not now. I know that sounds tripe. Here's the thing it's really hard for other people to judge you in. You're happy you're making money and you're living your life when i first started out. My parents didn't know what i did did for a living and frankly they still don't really understand it. All they know now is that i'm happy. I don't ask for money to borrow from them a happy camper. I call him all the time. I i love them. That's if number four is get a power posse. You really need to have a group of people that you can hang with that really get you and your business for me. I have a whole crew of internet. Marketers can hang out with we have drinks. We have fun and i never have to explain. What a squeeze pages. It's pretty cool so shannon. That is my aide to your your cue. Thank you so much for asking it now. If you have a story to share about people judging you or not getting what you do leave your story in the comments below if you in this video like it share it with your friends and social media and and of course if you never wanna miss an episode of tv come i'm on over to marie forleo dot com jump on the newsletter lists and i will catch you next time. And you are watching Marie TV the place to be to create a business and life you love and this is QA Tuesday. And I don't even care if it's not Tuesday when you're watching it is not even Tuesday number coordinate, but this is QA Tuesday. So let's rocket. Today's question comes from Tamil. And she writes, hi, Marite, I'm based in London and American acquaintance, recommended you to me, and I love love love your message. I've just started up my own business. And my question is this. How do you deal with self sabotaging thoughts that make you feel like you are winging it and that someone will find you out. I think women in particular suffer from this. And we hold ourselves back because we feel like we could get busted any moment for not really being an expert in our field. Even if we've got a lot of experience and great ideas. Awesome question ten I agree with you that many of us feel like a fraud, regardless of how much experience we have. And here's the thing. The idea that we could somehow. I'll be fraud or that we're going to get found out is really a kissing cousin to one of the biggest fears that every human being on the planet shares, and it's this. It's the fear of not being good enough. We all have this fear people who are brand new at what they're doing. And people have tons of experience and a lot of accomplishments on their belt now, we're all of us. Get tripped up is thinking that we need to overcome the fear of not being good enough or get rid of our negative thoughts in order to be successful truth is you don't have to. Here's the thing. You can't really get rid of negative thoughts. And if you've ever tried, you know that I'm right? But what you can do is make them powerless. And here's how you know how when you leave your computer Eitel for a little while a screensaver pops up. Your self sabotaging thoughts are the same thing screen saver that pops up every time you go idol think about it when you're fully immersed in your work. Maybe you're creating a marketing campaign or you're writing Email to a client or you're doing any of the three hundred things that need to happen in order for your business run. You have no room to wonder whether or not you're fraud. You're too busy getting things done and making a difference. But the moment you go item. What's? So how do you get your real screensaver to go away you have key? And you get back to work. It's the same thing with your mental one. So rather than thinking of your negative thoughts as bad consider them an automatic friendly reminder that you checked out and it's time to reengage. No this in any given moment, you're either fully engaged or. By the way. Just because those words are there does not mean that they are true. You don't have to analyze the words of try and change them or make them wrong or try and figure out why they're there in the first place tamra. The only thing you have control over in life is what you focus on where you'll direct your attention, your energy, and your emotion any given moment, and I've got a mantra to help you remember this, and yes, it's a tweet of all. More present moment engagement equals less crappy thoughts, look tamarin. We all have self sabotaging thoughts the difference between those who are successful in those who are not is the amount of attention and energy that we get to them. That's made your cue by. School is coming up. I'll just hitting tamarin that wasn't it. I wanna challenge you and everyone to take what I'm calling the seven day screen challenge for the next seven days. What I want you to do is pay special attention every time you disengage check out and you go into Zambelli catcher, mental screensaver tap, a little key and get back into your life. I promise you do this for seven days. You don't make your little negative thoughts wrong. You don't worry about self sabotage and anything you just stay engaged in the present moment as much as possible. It's gonna have a huge effect on your productivity and more importantly your happiness now I'd love to hear from you. How do you deal with yourself? Sabotaging thoughts. Do you think they're legit or did just brush him off and get back to work as always the best action happens after the episode at four Leo's dot com. So go there and leave a comment.
