How To Overcome Procrastination

"Learned to dance healer relationship. Grow Business Master your money or even solve world hunger the three words you need our way for it. Everything is figure out a ball. I gotta say that little phrase has changed my life and it's the title of my new book which is about to change yours. It's available now so go get your copy at everything is dot com okay. So we have a great question for today's Tuesday and I think it's something that all of steel with. How do you deal with procrastination? So this is from someone who right. Then she writes. How do you avoid procrastination and get a sense of urgency in the good sense so that you take action now okay so actually have a two part answer to this question and the first thing I want to talk about is the overarching reason? Why all of us fight this nasty thing called procrastination and I learned about this first from an author who I so admire his name is Steven press build and he wrote an amazing book called the war of Art. If you haven't gotten it get it. We'll do it for you on that sometime soon. Anyway Stephen Talks about this idea called the lizard brain so this Lizard Brain all. It's concerned about is survival and the Lizard Brain wants to keep you hidden at wants to keep you safe so it really stops us from from doing things putting ourselves out there. That really scary at just basically makes us for Krasny now. The thing that you have to do is just feel that fear field up. Resistance that resistance that actually see. Russel talks about that is attributed to the Lizard Brain and just keep going anyway Another favourite author of mine his name. Is Seth Godin? If you haven't heard of him definitely check him out. He says all we need to do is ship. We need to ship are things constantly. So what does that mean? That means. Write your blog that means produce your music that means creating your videos you have to create some momentum so you can kind of push past that Lizard Brain and get your things going and get it out there. There's no secret recipe. Unfortunately there's no secret sauce to moving past it. Besides one of my favorite things to do is called. Do it just do it? So I'll talk to you about what I do when it comes to getting over procrastination and that's this tip number one this would I do? And it's called Social Accountability. So what does that mean? It means that I like to embarrass myself past procrastination so I tell everybody and their sister about what I'm GonNa do so that they can publically socially hold me accountable so this way if I tell my girlfriend you know I'm gonNA shoot these new videos and you're gonna see them next week if she doesn't see them she's a call me out on it and I'm going to be pretty embarrassed so I like to use that accountability to get me to move past procrastination and get some shit done. The second thing that I do is I schedule it so I often like to save you. Don't schedule it. It's not real and a very wise friend of mine and her name. Is Michelle Vargas? She was saying you know. If you don't want to schedule it you

How To Use Fear To Your Advantage

"Healer relationship. Grow Business Master your money or even solve world hunger the three words you need our way for it. Everything is figure out a ball. I gotta say that little phrase has changed my life and it's the title of my new book which is about to change yours. It's available now so go get your copy at everything is dot com and useful. Thank you so much. I have a question about business and fear. I'm twenty five and recently finished Grad school and have been trying to launch a freelance writing career. I have small jobs here and there but nothing as substantial as I've lost and I know I can handle I know. Part of it is simply fear of getting started and wrapped up in that fear of failing even a little fear of succeeding interesting. How can I either get over this fear and start building my business successfully or use the fear to my advantage. This is so juicy juicy juicy juicy like a ripe peach. Here's why it's so juicy. It's not about getting over your fear it's about getting into your fear no seriously it really is about getting into your favorite. So here's the whole thing about fear and my man. Josh pice taught me this brilliant brilliant brilliant man. Fear is nothing but fuel fear. If you really break it down is a sensation in your body and unfortunately our society has conditioned most of us out of experiencing it so. It's something that we push against. We resist we. Don't even want to look at it when in reality that fear is incredible fuel. That can just jet blast you towards your dreams. Here's what I mean once. A mentor taught me this. That fear is excitement with the brakes on and the whole secret to using fear to your advantage is to learn how to what Josh Calls. Party with your fear. What does that mean? It means experience fear as a sensation in your body without going into the mental drama about. Oh my God am I gonNa fail or all my God. Am I going to succeed and put all of your attention on feeling what those sensations feel like? Is it champagne bubbles? Do you feel a little bit like when you're going on a roller coaster and you're going up the hill and you're like. Oh my God my stomach's getting butterfly is but then what happens right? If you got stuck at the top of that roller coaster ride it would be terrifying. You'd be frozen in that one spot if you just stopped and you didn't experience all of it but if you actually let yourself go and you ride the fear all of a sudden it turns into exhilaration and it's like the best freaking time ever. That is what's possible when you party with your fever. We all do. It's called the ridiculous activating system. Your reticulose activate exists. Yes it sounds more complicated than it actually is in reality. It's quite simple. It's this tiny tiny like the size of your fingernail little piece of your brain stem. That's responsible for filtering in and filtering out information as you know it would be impossible for us to take in the millions and millions and millions of pieces of information of sensory data. That's coming all over us so the particular activating system helps you narrow in on what's most important for you. It tells your brain what to focus on. So if you have ultimate clarity about your business fantasy right. What kind of publications do you WANNA write for? How much money you want to make. What are the people that you want to associate with like really crystal clear picture of this dream career that you're creating your brain will help you bring your dreams into reality at actually becomes a partner in you having everything he wants? So it's really easy doesn't require anything else. Besides you having clarity so the next thing I recommend for you is getting yourself. What's known as a power posse when you're first starting out and you want to launch something big? You're creating something from nothing. You need other awesome people to hang out with and more specifically people that are instigating and initiating their own success. Here's why it's important for any of us who on somewhat of an entrepreneurial path we need other people to hang out with need to share notes with people. We need to be able to talk about our disappointments to talk about our wins and to keep each other going. This is hugely important. I know in my life. When I first started most

"Which hates Marie? And you're watching Marie. TV Business and life advice that works. Today's question comes from someone who wants to remain anonymous. So we're GONNA call her Jane Jane rates I'm an independent sales rep for a makeup company. Sitting there is a shady rep among us who continually steals leads edges in on events planned by others and pretty much anything else that gives her something for nothing. Our district manager claims that she can't do anything and refuses to get involved is not fair to the rest of us who are working hard and this behavior will continue as long as she is getting getting away with it. I am at my wit's end and I don't know what to do or who else to turn to. She must be stopped and taught a lesson about business ethics and integrity lease his health. Jane you're not GonNa like what I have to say but this is actually going to be a great lesson for you in business ethics. I'd choose business ethics. This woman is either aware that she's leaching off of everyone figures. It's fine because nobody's called her out on it including you or she's clueless and is operating out of fear and scarcity really has no idea how to conduct yourself in either scenario. I realize you are not the victim of this woman. If you want her to stop you must take responsibility for your part. In the fact that it's still going on you are complicit by not being straight with her. So here's what I suggest girl. You need to have come to. Jesus talk with her own. You sit down and you say leach they offer my lead you say sucker kidding give her the benefit of the doubt and have an honest compassionate talk with her tell her how her actions or having a negative impact on a reputation these specific in your examples. You WanNa say something like Hey. I don't know if you realize this but the way you're behaving it comes across like you're trying to steal leads for myself and the other reps then listen to

How To Do Scary Things (a Chat With Marie Forleo)

"So you just see you good to see you. Thanks for having me on. How is California lovely as always? It's always a nice change of pace. I Love New York City. It's my home that I also love changing it up and being in a new environment and having a new vibe. So it's great. Is this something you guys do this. Every winter for a couple of years now right started third coming up here probably in like twenty twelve twenty thirteen and then around twenty fifteen when my stepson. What away will actually? He went away to college much earlier. The LAP by two thousand fifteen is when we made kind of permanent thing. Okay and is it. Do you guys have a place out there. We go okay. I mean I love New York as well like take it is my home. We can't really imagine leaving but I've been here for a long time and having to do every winter here. I think I'm done so yeah this year. We're doing Mexico for a month month to get out but my family's in southern California so I'm I am that like do we become the bicoastal people. Yeah I mean it's gorgeous. It's amazing amazing. There's challenges everywhere in the world. Especially you know this this side of the US But I like it. You know for me I really liked to change environments. I think it's really good for me growing growing up in the east coast again. I've done the winters my whole life. Yeah yeah so it whereas I grew up in California my whole life and was like it's a winter I'm like make Ryan. It's snowing and now I feel like a decade. I'm like do you know your type. Grandma that's up in my head. I feel like I've maybe done that But never really go too deep to memorize it and get into it well. I just went off that he'd been with it and the last year and I am any room for which means that authenticity is really important to me and I realized Oh this is kind of one of the reasons why rather a crap like influence or blogger person on that side of my business. Because I don't want to promote anything if I'm not like yes. People really need this one. I want this and one of those things is books that being in our position so many people send books which is lovely and I love books and I'm so honored to get them but there's it's so rare that I actually share one that I'm like okay. The majority of my audience legit needs to read this like. We've only got some chime just really conscious of what I'm like. We you must. I have this. You've got to go by this but I reached out to you because I binged your everything is figure audible audiobook in like we and was like doc okay. This addresses the majority of F. accused that I get from my audience like this is what everyone is seeking which is basically they want to change and it's the top of the year when we are talking more about change more in that mindset but this is year round like Yes yes we want to change our health or our financial circumstances or global warming or being afraid or are career all across the board and I realized Oh everything everything is bigger audible is really about. How do you change and so it was like? Let's off on the broadcast and talk about this because this applies to all of us and we've been talking about on the podcast last couple of weeks so I'm curious what you've learned from you and all these people who you students that you've worked with people in Britain to you after your Marie talk now more more people after the book. How do we change? Yeah so that's what that's what this whole puppy is about right. Everything is figure out of all all is well. Here's what I think we have to start. We have to back up and realize that it's possible one of the things that I was really excited about in terms of writing this. This book was how to help people tap into the innate power and intelligence that they already have and when I started to who peel back that notion it really brought me back to our educational system and how at this point in time. It hasn't done a really great job for most of us. There may eighty some exceptions. But I know in terms of my own schooling and my own upbringing doesn't do a stellar job of teaching us how to develop winning mindsets and healthy perspectives. And how how to really optimize our brain how to use this thing to help us create positive change in our own lives and thereby in our communities around us and you know just because we. I didn't learn in school. Doesn't mean we say nobody taught it to us for me. It's like that's the whole reason why. I became a coach quite honestly because when I started to delve into the world old of personal development and professional development and began to understand that there were all these solid principles and concepts and science. That actually worked I was like why. Why are we not teaching this to kids when they're in pre kindergarten and grade school and high school? And why am I just learning about this in my twenties and so the way that we create change is I realizing that we have the power to and if we have the power to them what holds us back and so. That's why this idea this belief this mantra this philosophy that everything is figuring is so incredibly powerful. I Remember Hillary when I was first starting to write the book And it was struggling to write the book. Let's be real. I was out to Brunch with a few friends. And one of my friends brought along her eight-year-old time we're going around the table and everyone was talking about what they're up to in their in their life and they say what are you working on and he said I'm working on a new book and this what's it called. I said everything is figuring out and my friends eight year old son was like no. It's not nope nope it was so it was like dead silence at the table and I was like I said this is actually awesome. Please tell me more your dining hall. Yeah what do you believe is not figure out of all. And he's like well we human beings can't grow working wings out of our back and fly away this kid already. He's amazing I said well first of all have you heard of crisper. If not you need to go google that because you know maybe in the next fifteen or twenty years that actually might be possible. I said but stepping back you do know that we human beings can indeed fly and he was like. Yeah right okay. Well what about this one. I can't bring my dog back from the dead. The one that died a few years ago and in my ahead Hiller. I'm thinking all right. That's some pet cemetery. Is Ray there but that I said well that may be true. But you do know that. Scientists are working on cryogenics cryogenics and people have been cloning their dogs for a few years and he was like. Oh I get your right. So some conversations like that inspired me to create create a set of rules around this idea which gives us a mental container through which we can use it for. Its intended purpose which is to help us create change and thereby create change in the world around around us so there are three rules figure out about philosophy and they go like this rule number one. All problems or dreams are figure out -able rule number number two. If a problem isn't figure out -able it's not really a problem. It's a fact of life or law of nature like death gravity taxes roll number three and this is the big one. You may not care enough to solve a particular problem or reach a particular dream. And that's okay Eh. But find something you do care deeply about and get your back to rule number one. When I was researching the book there was actually this powerful quote quote by a British? Quantum theorist named David Deutsch. And he says everything that is not forbidden by the laws of nature is achievable given the right knowledge. It's actually from another other mind-bending book called the beginning of Infinity. Which I highly recommend on audible because trying to get through it? It's so dentists like nyquil asleep. But you don't have to take a quantum theorist word further my work for that exam for for that instance. I just invite people to try it before you deny it. Try It for you deny it. So there's some other points of potential all skepticism around the idea actually. The three rules handles most of them.

Who Else Influences Your Customer?

"Comes from a Nikkei in the Netherlands. Any the Nikkei writes. Hi Marie my customers or people working in social enterprises who assists people on welfare before my customers can sign up from one of our trainings. They always have to convince their manager. How can I help my customers to make this easy for them? You know. This is a fantastic last question. I will tell you why because we're going to talk about Advanced Ninja Marketing. The the reason this question so awesome is because it's highlighting an issue that most business owners and marketers never consider and that is uh who is the key influence of your customer. Your customer has many people around them who are influencing their decision and so in this case the key influencers is your customers manager. It's not enough to just address. Your customers concerns. You need to go even further and you need to walk in the shoes of your key influencers your advanced marketing mission. Should you choose to accept it. Get inside the mind of the key influencers and uncover cover all of the hidden objections. The concerns everything that could be holding the influence or back from helping your customer make decision. I know this might be a little convoluted and hard to understand understand. So let's look at an example for my business so right now. We're promoting my annual conference rich happy and hot live in New York City October. Twenty first the twenty third now. Our target market is women entrepreneurs women entrepreneurs who run online businesses. Now these women typically have significant others. Maybe they've got the husband. Maybe they've got a girlfriend or a boyfriend or some person in their life who helps them make decisions whenever they're spending time or money. What what we did was? We thought well if somebody's husband or the boyfriend girlfriend is concerned about them. Coming all the way to New York City spending fifteen hundred dollars on a ticket spending a few. Today's away from home. We know they might have some concerns that may be the girl needs to handle so we created this awesome little. PDF guide called the convince your partner guide. In fact we'll give you a link to it right below this video. Essentially what I did was I sat down. I asked myself when I go to a conference. I talked to Josh about it. If I'M GONNA drop a couple thous dollars or I'm going to go anywhere for a few days. I talked to. Josh usually has some concerns so we sat down and drummed up all the concerns. That Josh usually has and we thought about our key. influencers for our target target market are ladies and we said what are the concerns that any significant other has made a whole list and we addressed every single one of them. Like I said you can check out an example in link below this video okay. It is action Jackson time. Baby step number one. Identify all of the key influencers around your your customer so drum up as many people as you can. And then we're going to drill it down to the one key influencers who's really helping your customer. Make the decision step number to just make a list of all the objections and concerns that that key influencers could have about your customer buying your product or service. List everything you can think of and step number three. You need to tackle those objections head on never back away from any concern or any objection to really address. It as best as you can't bonus points if you can also communicate how the key influencers is going to benefit from the customer buying your product or service. So here's what I mean with rich happy and hot live. I I send my ladies home in great shape so not only. Are they making more money in their business. There are a lot happier but oftentimes. They're having a lot more sex with their key. influencers I personally guarantee not it is not actually guaranteed gay. That was a two year. Q hope you enjoyed it and

How to Reach Multiple Target Audiences

"They're released sh and MOJO RIGHTS HIGHBURY FIRST OFF. Thanks for being such an amazing inspiration inspiration for sharing your rockstar. Know how the world you are. Welcome I look forward to your videos. Every week. I currently run a business called the mouse. Market uh-huh I sculpt Itty bitty realistic foods out of clay and I sell them as either dollhouse miniatures. Or I turn them into jewelry pieces whenever I'm creating something. The share with my audience dance from my monthly newsletter to daily tweet. I seemed to get caught in limbo because I can't figure out how to speak to both the customers who wearing funky jewelry and and customers who love decorating their dollhouse a super specific example. I want to offer free appear Freebie when people sign up for my newsletter but I can't think think of anything that would appeal equally to both groups. Is there smart. Way To target both sets of customers in marketing efforts without over generalizing my five message. Thank you so much so well let me tell you how it was going to go. which mouth market right here and right now girl up Mo we love Your Business? It's fun it's adorable and it's totally unique. But I went ahead and visited your website and I don't think your problem or your challenge is what you think it is. You got some other issues issues. That are easy to fix. While I'm going to give you a whole bunch of as to cues. You didn't even ask. Let's start with your first question about food. Jewelry customers versus dollhouse customers. We'd be odds here for a minute girl menu. People who want dollhouse food and people who want miniature food jewelry are not that different they like food and they like banks. Here's the question. Are you reaching all of those people because I took a look at your website and I saw some opportunities that you are messing. Do you have any idea how many people search for food jewelry I'll tell you. It's five thousand four hundred every single month breath how about miniature food. That's nine thousand. Nine hundred searches her month and then dollhouse miniatures. It's forty thousand. Five hundred searches searches per month. A lot of people decorate dollhouses. So by the way I use the Free Google Edward Keyword tool to find all these numbers and I highly highly suggest you use it to you can just go to Google and type in keyword tool and you'll find it so here's the deal Miss Mo- you are missing out on an incredibly active give niche market. Because you're using clever wording versus very basic simple language that people are already searching for dollhouse catering which you have on your site is super cute and clever but it sucks for your business because nobody searching for it. By contrast thirteen hundred. People are searching for dollhouse food every Vermont. So here's what you need to do. My friend simply write about and you simple terms like food jewellery miniature food and dollhouse food next up. Let's talk about out this whole. PDF idea for your business. You sell physical products right mile so think about it. Your customers probably don't want a pdf a PDF works. Great when you're or selling information or advice or how to's but for you you need to think about your customers and your business and what's going to work really great for you as an opt-in so for products based business you want something compelling like free shipping on your first order new subscribers only sign up for flash sales only available to subscribers. Here's a twenty dollar off instead coupon and the list goes on and on the point here is that your offer should be in line with what your customers most want. We also want to talk about the policeman of your often offer on your site. Currently it's buried all the way at the bottom which is not good when it comes to opt in offers they should always is be above the fold and what that means is that someone should never have to scroll down your website to find it. Important point here should always test different locations for your often offer to find out what converts best and I did a little snooping on your behalf and I found out that one of your colleagues is doing something really smart back. I seem to feel as if everyone should listen to me and learn with me. This is not always appreciate appreciate it and it seems to be alienating some people so my question is how do I resist the urge to make everyone around me. See the light well. WHOA WHOA WHOA hold on? Tammy you want to help. Everybody See the light. Have you never seen poltergeist girl. The light is bad. They don't go into the TAMMY. Tammy Tammy this is an awesome question. Hey Papas Murph. Did you know that if you were more in the moment your whole life would transform grouchy. She you're using your grouchiness to hide your brilliance. I really think you're dialing upset. SMER fat you really need to claim your feminine in in power and really own your divine goddess. But as you're seeing this approach doesn't always go over so well I mean think about it. You're trying to push self-help help on people and it may actually take them off because essentially what you're saying is they don't know how to do their life. They're pretty screwed up and they need you to come help him out. Essentially they're they're going to say to themselves. who asked you? So here's what you need to do. Don't talk about it. Be about it as the saying goes and this is a pretty good tweet. -able others will follow your footsteps easier than they will your advice. What that means is being example of what you're learning really embodied the ideas and the principles you want to be a living demonstration of all the good stuff? You WanNa be a role model. You don't WanNa preach what you'll find. Is that people in your life are really going to take notice. And they're going to ask you. What's your secret? Or if they're really into it they'll say yes. How To Grow Your Business Without Working More

"From all right. So today's this question comes from Romilda and Ra mildew rates. Hey Marie love your stuff. Thank you for all the information and the inspiration this week. Exactly acquiesced a year ago. I started vegetarian. And organic catering service in the Netherlands. Check it out. These are my three main activities of Veggie. Gee Organic meals on wheels by Life Messenger four times a week catering for smaller and larger groups on weekends and food and cooking workshops occasionally. That's a lot of short term planning veggie harvesting shopping and cooking to do. I'm caught up in what everyday demands and there's very little room left in my head to look ahead and and see where I'm heading with this business so I- boldly went hired a second cook for one or two days a week although I can't really afford it yet I wanNA use those days to work on bigger projects for for the future that I believe and hope we'll bring in more money. Plus these are things that I would really love to do. But it's impossible to set up in the current cooking frenzy. I was wondering hiring. If you could tell me something about your experience with this. Does it pay to pay somebody. This is an awesome freaking question. Because it's something that every small business owner struggles as with especially when you're first starting out right because you're doing everything yourself so to answer your question yes it does pay to pay people. But here's the thing so you have to design your business with the end in mind. What does that mean your business needs to give you freedom from two things time and money? That means that you can't do everything everything yourself. Otherwise you'RE GONNA burn out remember as an entrepreneur. You're building something that needs to go. Beyond your individual efforts WanNa build an entity that really lives and breathes on on its own version need to reengineer the way that you're thinking about your business you WanNa start engineering it work

How to Create a Brand and Find Your Voice

"Feeling like a total copy of the women I admire? I get so much inspiration from my mentors but I feel stuck. How do I get my own message out there and have it sound like me Sylvia? This is a fantastic question and one I get asked. A lot is really afford that. You're able to find your own way to to express yourself in a way that feels original authentic to you. One thing I want to let you know about every creator and writer I know struggles with this including me when you find someone when you're inspired by it's really easy to read all their stuff and then all of a sudden you start speaking like them and writing like them and it can get using just not feel so good. Here's the thing think most ideas are already out there so it's not so much about what you say it's about how you say it. It's so important that you challenge yourself and be creative and and I know it can seem like when someone else says something. That is the only way it can be said. But that's just not true. In fact your four strategies defined your voice and end your brand number one challenge yourself to express one idea at least five different ways. This is a great way to help you build your ability to see Z.. Things different ways in your own way. Try this pick one idea for a universal concept and try saying much different ways. Here's an example idea f. You can't control the way things are going to happen. That's the way the cookie crumbles happens. Everything happens for a reason south to deal with that. You just can't win them. All in what will be will be see. That was just seven two ways to say the same thing but they each have their own unique tone and energy number to draw on your own experience not your research this means tell your own stories use your own phrases raises. Come up with your own analogies in your own metaphors you want to use your own life to inform your teaching. Here's the

Are People Around You Holding You Back?

"All right so question. Today is from Miss Gina. Gina Rights. How do you handle the people friends coworkers family even who are uncomfortable or even seem to the dislike the newer more enhanced version of me as I continue to evolve in reach for the stars in all areas of my life? Don't want to leave them behind. But they seem to be holding me back energetically. Thanks for all that you do Marie. That is a juicy question. Gina and I've got a juicy for you. Yes I do so the first thing we want to realize realized is that it's super natural. Not Supernatural like weird poltergeist. But very natural when you're going on a journey of growth in evolution that there's GonNa be some pretty significant changes between you and the people you are in relationship with what I want you to get. Is that currently you. have it set up as though your the victim victim as though people are holding you back at their energetically holding you back. Stop Stop at that. Gina is vital to realize that no one is holding you back you need need to take responsibility for who's in your life and the impact that you're allowing them to have on you. The next important thing to remember is that every relationship has a beginning a middle and an end sometimes relationships naturally come to a close because you guys are just on different paths. That's natural and that happens. In other circumstances I know this is going to get a little. It'll deepened morbid. Potentially but it's the truth even if you have a wonderful relationship at some point one of you guys is going to die. was that horrible. That I said that it's the truth right so clinging onto this idea of permanence in anything especially relationships just set you up for failure. We are and we don't want to do that so you're not leaving anyone behind. It's just that your path is going in a different direction than their past their growing to. It's just doesn't look the same. As is your growth. Final point to remember is that you want to lead by example. So if you're discovering all these new pool things about personal development spirituality. Don't become a spiritual SNOB. We all hate that so. Don't be defensive or judgmental or look down on other people because you think that you got all the answers in that's altogether and these poor fools on the side on honey. That's not the way to do it. You have to lead with love and compassion and understanding Mama Maria Cisco Oh as Martin Luther King Junior says darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out. Hate only only love can do that.

This is our two of our three part series how to do a decade in Review Hashtag and F- decade in Review View. So in part one we walk through how to gather up all your accomplishments right what you are super proud of from the past ten years then we talked about how to leverage all your learning so if you missed any of that you need to go back and check out part one right now and get her done now today. What we're going to tackle is the next section and I've promised what what you're doing right now is going to set you up to really have the most joyful the most productive and the most meaningful decade had? That's what it's all about so make sure that you've got your journals else and you guys are jealous has and we're ready to go now. The next action. You're going to work on is this. It's called section three. which is what I'm willing to let go of? Oh my goodness you guys. This is such a big one. This is the only one that we're going to work on today. Here's we're GONNA get to ray down on all the things that you are ready and willing to let go of before you enter this brand new decade and there's actually three places that you're going to look for these these things to release little subsections if you will and the first is this old projects and goals so are there any projects or I should do this type of goals that have just been circling around your head for years that you've never made time for because honestly maybe you didn't really want him that bad in the first place. Maybe it was an idea from someone else that you took on. But it wasn't true to your heart or maybe it was an expectation from a family member or society that was never really yours in the first place I think about it like this old goals and projects are Kinda like leftovers in your fridge. Food that at one point. You're like I should really eat that. I should really say that but then it just sat in your fridge for weeks or months is taken up all kinds of space then gruesome for and then you feel guilty every time you the fridge and you see it well guess what most of us guys them old Moldy Pradesh lurking around our mental fridge too. So this is your opportunity to get ask them out of your head and get them onto the page so you can officially let them go because on a conscious or subconscious level I gotta be real these old goals and projects. They're taking bandwith valuable bandwidth that you're going to need a rock. The twenty twenties cool excellent so the next little all subjects then is called resentments anger and upset. ooh This is a big one. So be honest. Are there any resentments or upset that you've been hanging onto. Do you have some emotional baggage that you are willing to release. Is there anybody in your life that you need to forgive have including yourself. I want you to write it down and even if you don't know how you're going to do any of this at this moment it's totally okay. Okay as long as you're willing I promise you you will find a way or make a way to release all this crop. Remember everything figure out about right. I wrote a whole book about it. You you could totally figure it out now. Finally the last section here and this is the most important it's limiting beliefs or crappy old stories. You gotta ask yourself what limiting beliefs or crappy old stories. Have you been telling yourself for the past ten years or more stories that just no longer serve you so for example. Maybe it's time to let go that limiting belief that you are too old or you're too young to thing that you really want to do or maybe maybe you're finally done with that story that there's no room for you because it's all been done before man. That thing is so tired or maybe you're ready to let go of your excuses about not having enough time or not having enough know how would possibly it's time to let go of that crappy old story that you're not good good enough or you're not capable enough to bring your dream to life so look. Can we just Dariel for a minute here. I need you to listen to me so come closer come a little bit closer sir. You are so much more powerful and capable than you give yourself credit for. I know you know this deep down but sometimes a little shit talker in your head gets the best you doesn't it yes it does am I right. I know him right because it gets the best of all of us myself included but this is an amazing opportunity to let let go of all the crap that hold you back before you go into a new decade now. Once you've written down all that stuff I want you to re read your list. Then you're you're gonNA have a new little subsection and it's called this. What's most important to let go of and why now just like we did? In part one you're going to identify the most important ordinance things that you need to let go of and why it's vital you let all this crap right now so after. So what has this thing cost you over the past decade. What is holding onto this resentment or this limiting belief or this old story? What is it prevented you from experiencing or achieving and why is it crucial? Crucial that you let this damn thing go now and once and for all I want you to write as much as you want. Remember reasons come before results and purpose purpose fuels persistence. And with that I gotta say Nice Damn Work You did it. That's all you got to do for today. So coming up. Next is the final piece of our three report series. We're going to actually finish your decade or in view and it's GonNa be awesome next week actually includes this really fun time traveling exercise that I think you're gonNA love but for right right now I wanna know what's the number one thing that you wanna let go of before the new decade. Everything is Figureoutable

"We all know that leadership is about casting a compelling vision and marshalling your resources to see it become reality letty but what happens when the path becomes less clear what happens when you appear to be swimming upstream what happens when everything that can go wrong the profound answer to that universal question when you feel stuck trapped in enabling move forward within you care so deeply about entrepreneurs speaker and writer Marie Forleo says that there is only one option figure it out this is a message that she deeply believes because it is one that she has lived and it all started with a woman named Marian so Miriam is this time rainy but a mighty woman so to paint a picture she's about five three she looks like June cleaver and she cusses like a truck driver she grew up the daughter of two alcoholic parents in the projects of Newark New Jersey at she really learned by necessity how to stretch a dollar bill around the block like five times and she made herself a promise as a little girl that went she was old enough she would find a way to create a better life and she did and that woman a museum is my mom and one of my fondest memories of my childhood was sitting around the kitchen table with my mom and cutting out coupons so she loved to teach me all the different ways that our family could save money that was really important and one of the things she taught me about was that if you save up what we're known as the proofs of purchase like the back of a cereal box or if you always purchase the same dishwashing detergent that you could save up those little proofs of purchase in the brands would send you free things they were called premiums back in the day to get maybe like some cooking utensils or recipe book and one of my uh-huh most prized possessions was this tiny little orange transistor radio it looked like an orange and it had a red white straw sticking out of the top and it was from Tropicana orange juice and she got it for free this thing was her favorite thing on the planet so my mom is the kind of person who's like always he always doing something and as a kid. I knew the way to find my mom's somewhere around the yard or somewhere around the house was listening for the tinny little sound of that Tropicana Orange Radio in Alex remember one day coming home from school and I heard the radio off in the distance and as it got closer the sound was coming up from above which was a strange orientation and they looked up and I see my tiny mom perched precariously on the roof of our two story house they like as hit your mom I was like what are you doing on a roof argue okay my mom is such a unique character she yells down silver she's like I'm fine don't worry about it the roof adult league in it I called the Roofer he said it would be at least five hundred bucks I said screw that I looked in the rush there was extra asphalt and I said I'll fix it so another day I'm coming home from school and I go in the house and I hear the little radio coming from the back of the House and I listen I followed it and I pushed open the door and as the bathroom in there my mom was sitting in the bathroom there was like dust particles coming down despite sticking out of the wall it looked like there had been an explosion in there and I was like mom are you ok would he doing and she's no I'm fine don't worry about it she said there is you know so cracks in the tile and I didn't want the bathroom to get moldy so I'm retiring the bathroom and unlike just confused and Alex you have to get this the nineteen eighties this is pre enter net pre youtube so she was watching how to videos on how to do this stuff that's exactly right so again this is like an different time in a different era so I always knew I could find my mom by listening down that radio and one day it was the fall time and I was coming home from school the daylight savings had passed dr cows creepy already but when I got up to me house it was quiet like hindrup quiet which is very strange for an Italian American household house was dark I go inside I hear nothing I feel pit in my stomach the one that you get when you just know something is wrong thinking where is my mom and where's the sound of the radio so tiptoeing through the House night here's some clicks and clocks coming from the kitchen I walk over there and I see my mom hunched over our kitchen table the little light on it looked like an operating room in front of her was her beloved little Tropicana Orange in like fifteen pieces she had a screwdriver and electrical tape and I was like all my goodness mom are you okay what's on that your favorite radio she's like already don't worry about it she's like you know the antenna was a little twisted and the dial was off. I'm just fixing it and Alex's the first time that I ever thought to ask I said hey mom how do you know how to do so many different things that you've never done before but nobody's showing you how to do it and she put down her screwdriver over and she cocked her head to the side and she looked and she's like what are you talking about this isn't that big of a deal nothing in life is that complicated if he just set your mind to what you roll up your sleeves you get in can you do it everything is figure out ball now Alex truth be told I don't know if those were her words that's what my childhood ears her written but that's what was absorbed in me and it was like my DNA got shifted on a different level and ever since that moment that little freeze everything is figure audible has been the single most powerful driving force in my life from helping me get out of a toxic relationship when I was very a young who's in abusive relationship helping me get every single job I've ever had since I was nine years old helping me get into college to get work studies to help pay for school you know any job I've had since then getting myself out of debt building a company every single thing that is valuable and meaningful in my life this phrase as has been the driving force underneath it more than that anyone I've had the opportunity to share this little simple idea with has then been able to adopt it and cry AH really powerful changes in their life and so that's why I'm really excited to get it out to our people's hands no kidding you hear the stories about your mom and then you hear that phrase everything is figure out and it's almost like your heart jumps a little bit because you hear that and you're like that's what it should be that is right it's so inspiring what do you think it is about that mindset that just has the ability to light people on fire we'll I think because it reminds them and US of something that we all know deep down but sometimes we forget and that's that each of us are born creators we were given this gift ability to change our thinking to change our minds to take ideas almost from the ether and make them reality I mean Alex the rain now everyone even listening to this show you know at one point in time podcast didn't exist right the Internet didn't exist looking around like I'm sitting on a chair looking at light bulbs I'm in a building in New York City someone had to imagine all of these things into being and then do the work that was necessary to change reality so that's the power that all of us have I think that our educational system just doesn't do a good job teaching us at enough age that we all do have this power and we can use our minds and our hearts and our desires to not only shift our own reality but to create meaningful change in the world that's powerful and it seems like the ramifications of this everything is figure out -able mindset. I mean that certainly obviously it affects the entrepreneur but I think it can affect Act the artists the athlete the person that works in a massive corporation organisation it seems like it transcends just the entrepreneur it absolutely does enemy if we think about some of the most transformative shifts and human history you know from the art to the sciences to medicine if we go all the way back you know Roger Bannister Breaking four-minute mile very shifty sports history and created a new reality for so many people that followed after if you think about John F. Kennedy saying we're GONNA put a person on the moon on and all of a sudden like whoa maybe not and then ten years later that happened if you think about women's suffrage if you think about the civil rights movement like you can just go down the line medical breakthroughs it always takes someone who has spirit of the idea that everything is figuring audible to then reach out into the future to stake a claim and bring all of us along with them and so to your point you know it doesn't matter if you're working in an organization your apparent your community organizer You're an entrepreneur your teachers her student we all have this innate wisdom in us we all have this innate power in this creativity and my job with this book is just to remind people of the gifts that they already have just to remind them to kind of amplify an awaken with they already have inside them a love it used the word awaken because it seems like okay once we possess that idea like Maria sold me everything is figure out I'm on board with Mariam let's do

How to Test out Your Business Idea

"Bridge edge from a good job. That doesn't feed my soul to a full time business following my passion. What steps do you recommend. I take to start building abridge while still committed to my full time job. Mary and this is a fantastic question and so many people are in your situation so thank you for asking it. Step one is to commit to love the crap out of your job while you're there. Here's why I say that one of the things I've learned in my life is how you do one thing is how you do everything and I've seen so many people make a huge mistake where they're trying to transition out of a job into a business that they love and they wind up going to work every day and they're miserable. They're totally resenting being they're are there like surfing the web they're complaining and when they get home at night they have absolutely zero energy to devote to their passion business. Why is that it's because they're miserable. Israel and complaining all day long so you can't be in that mode for eight hours and then come home and think you're going to be passionate. Business Ain't gonNA happen so commit to really love being there for by the time that you're there. Asthma's Oprah says doing the best in this moment. Put you in the best place place for the next moment one more reason if you need it to love your job while you're at it he is. I want you to build a financial cushion. When you start making that transition to your new business this you're gonNA eventually need some things like website and some other business stuff plus azure making a transition. It's really important to have a financial cushion to lean on while you're getting things going so step. Two is all about profit clarity. Profit clarity is so important so we WANNA know. What exactly is Your Business Snus. What's Your Business Model. Are you selling goods. Are you selling services are they. Digital is it software as a membership site all kinds of choices to make we also also WanNa know who are you serving and who are your ideal clients. And what exact problems. Are you solving for them. How are you helping them to lead better lives. And what exactly are they giving money for step number three. Is You WANNA take that profit clarity. Take those ideas that you came up with and now we need to go out into the marketplace and validate holiday your ideas that means talking to some real people going out and finding people that are in your target market and talking to them about the exact problems that you you want to help them solve. Here's an example if I was considering starting a personal styling business and my target market was women between their thirties and fifties and they were the entrepreneurial I would go out and find as many of those women as I possibly could find then. I would have conversations with them about what frustrates them about their. They're close about their closets their wardrobes about getting dressed for speaking engagements and all the things that I could possibly come up with that. I can help them solve and then I'd ask them. Would they actually pay money for that really get down to the nitty gritty and find out. Is this a viable service. Would people actually give me money for Eric these ideas after I spoke to enough of these ladies I would know whether or not my idea was on track and if it was start making ladies some offers and get my business off off the ground now of course there's many more steps to crack this nut. These are three that will get you

Fear vs. Intuition: How to Tell the Difference

"Not to do something sometimes they feel the same but a flat stomach and I cannot separate them and Eve right hot and sexy tip is about to get Brian Hutton sexy up here. Yao All right. I am really excited to a queue because it's one of the common ones I get. I've got two strategies today to help view hone in on how to tell the difference between fear and intuition first one is this. You've got this question that you can ask yourself to tap into your natural knowing each us has a natural knowing. It's something like a body knowing kind of like your intuition and it's simple question and it goes like this when you think about doing the thing that you're talking about confused or scared to do it. Do you feel expansive or contracted. So Gray says she has no idea what the hell that means. Let's dive into what expansive mean so if you think about something and you feel expansive. It's kind of like your shoulders open up. Your chest opens up. You get really excited. Even if there's a little bit of fear involved. It feels like Oh my God. I really love to do that. There's kind of like a forward forward motion everything expanse now. Let's talk about contracted so that feeling if you think about doing the thing you're thinking about doing and all of a sudden you start to kind of pull. Dan Or your head starts to shake. No you start to feel a sense of dread or like God that feels like pulling teeth fast sense of contraction and that's how you know if it's detracted feeling that's your intuition or your gut telling you stay away. Honey do not go near that thing with a ten foot pole on the other hand. If you feel expansive and you still have some fear go for it. It's a good thing enough see now. She gets strategy number two. You want to kind abuse that same inner ability but this time you're going to pull in your friends and here's what I mean so as a coach I often work with people and they'll tell me about the projects that are coming up and I just watch them and it's really interesting because when people start to talk about their ideas and things that they WANNA do their body doesn't like Alexa cures my body never lies and when you hear someone talking about something that they really shouldn't do. They actually start to dead like they get pasty. They start to look depressed almost like their body language starts to pull in and then when people talk about something that they're really excited about that they should do even though it scares the crap out of them they light up like a gain. Christmas tree so here's implement this you gotta get some good friends around you and you. WanNa talk through the ideas or this opportunity that you're not sure if you should take or not and have have them really pay attention now. Of course it's important that these friends are honest that you trust them and that they actually care about you and I promise you talk through this and they'll be able to tell hot minute whether or not you should go for it just based on how your body and your face is reacting now finally leave with an awesome quote from my friend. Steven Spielberg eld who I interviewed yeah he has this awesome quote which set the more important project project is to your souls evolution. The more you'll resist it blew. Stephen Press feel awesome question gray. Thank you

"It's just just such a fascinating subject. I'm Marie TV. Were always coming up with ideas and everything else. We do in the business for you when it comes to creativity. Do you think that there's ever in new ideas everything in interational version of something that's come before that's that's. I kind of fall in line with that notion that everything is kind of a remix. Everything builds it's on pre existing knowledge base and creative people are people that are able to connect the dots in a new way arrange the Legos in a different order but but using the same building blocks. There's actually a series on the web. That's really popular called. Everything is a remix that's genius and it just shows a lot of things that we consider original or actually again a remix of what came before and so that's where. I think that whole notion about steal like an artist or you know good artists borrow great artists steal because the the truth of the matter is everything builds on what came before so as long as you site where your inspiration comes from or you give credit to wear you're connecting the dots from beyond that that I think we all kind of share in that space in which ideas can have sex and they should all belong to all of us. Yes actually that's what I wanted to talk about next. I thought it was such an interesting turn of phrase. Obviously it's like a little bit saucy a little bit. Sassy talk to me about ideas having sex and why you're so passionate about bringing these very interesting thing amazing philosophical philosophical concepts and packaging them in a mainstream way that everybody can get well that term ideas having sex rex. I think it came after I read Steven Johnson's book where good ideas come from a natural history of innovation which is a dazzling book about the origin of ideas and he writes a lot there about how we need to create a space ecology of thought and he talks about how cities are fertile spaces uses for ideas to have sex because of the density of the way people are arranged near each other people from different backgrounds co mingling together sprouts new re combinations of ideas. He talks about the rise of coffee shop as another instance in history that led to a lot of ideas because you put a lot of people in a small space you give them lots of caffeine and ideas intermingle mutate and sprout and in the age of the Internet all of a sudden even the city even though it's still a very creative place. It's not a necessary precursor anymore because the age of the Internet we transcend distance and time and space itself so now anybody who is interested in anything can coalesce around someone else was interested in the same thing and they can have that kind of ideas idea sex but I love the metaphor of talking about ecology or space where ideas which are like organisms can have sex which is the whole the solution of we went from a world of jeans a world of memes so ideas these memes are these living things ideas leap from brain to brain. They compete for the resources verses of our attention. They have infectivity. They have spreading power. This notion that ideas are live is is a wonderful idea and actually I remember in one of your videos. You talked about about how they retain some of the characteristics of organisms and that just kind of blew my mind. I want to hear Jason Talk about that. Well that was Richard Dawkins in the selfish office gene I believe in the seventies this book where he introduced the term me and of course meam rhymes with jeans and he says you know we used to live in world where information was only exchanged through sex sexual reproduction that's how genetic information mixed with other genetic information but with culture with language all of a sudden and we had this new information technology that allowed us to encode information in vocal patterns and transmitted through time and space outside of DNA that was a new you replicator writing allowed us to encode information. Take it outside of the mind and put it over there and let it spread. Let other people read it so it was this is this notion that at that point we went from a world of genes to a world of memes and that this new replicator accelerated our capacity to transform form the world because it just it started building and building and building and building and building and now we live in that we have the global nervous system where information is traveling faster than ever. I mean it's it's a wild space right yeah. It's refined thoughts travelling at the speed of light. It's so exciting to me and often times. I just really stop and think about how much I I love the Internet. I talk about unlike it. I remember getting online for the first time in going. I can reach people in another part of the world that would never never have a chance to connect with on a spiritual level on any level and it literally makes me want to jump Outta my skin. I think there was a famous Jesuit priest called tailored discharged in and he talked about the Omega Point and the acceleration of technology is leading towards this apex where we all kind of merge into this Super Meta organism. He refer to it as the new US fear that rises above the biosphere so it's this membrane is going to surround the earth. That's all mind. It's all thought it's all the thoughts of billions of people finally becoming this sort of Meta organism and it's a wild idea but think about it. I mean you create a piece of content that doesn't it just inspire the people in this room but that inspire somebody in South Korea or in Berlin and it might change the book that they decide to read that day which might change changed the major that they go for in college which might then change the course of human evolution because they might invent something so. It's like we do now. Ideas are a force of evolution Russian and the fact that our ideas are unbounded by normal Euclidean meet space limitations of distance and time means that we're in this world where thought ought travels at the speed of light and thought evolves and mutates and wow knows where that's going to go but it's an exciting time if used wisely. How much do you love that. Were alive right now. And how much do you love especially given what you do and your skill set and your passion yeah one hundred percent. I mean look technology gets a lot of criticism and that's because technology always been a double edged sword and I understand I mean when we discovered fire. It's been famously says you could use fire to cook your food and and that led to this acceleration or capacity to absorb nutrients and it freed us to have all this time to think and so on and so forth but you can also use fire to burn your enemies you can use the alphabet to write Shakespearean sonnets that enrich the imagination or you can use the alphabet composed hate speech and lead people to kill each other so technology extends but it can extend into any direction and it's how we use these tools ultimately determines if they're good at her bad but I haven't unwavering belief leave that if you look at the macro trends overall. We tend to use these things for good Steven. Johnson wrote a whole other book about that future perfect where he talks about look. It's not utopia but it's leaning that way. The world has never been less violent than it is today contrary to what you see in the Media Steven Pinker Old Myth of violence Ted talk says that the chances this is a man dying at the hands of another man or the lowest than they've ever been in the history of man. yeah if you watch game of thrones. It's like Whoa thank God. We're not there anymore. Totally totally totally but you know again. The media is doom and gloom so it makes you almost think that the world is going to hell when in fact there's a lot of things that are going right and and so again it's how we use these tools was ultimately they will determine our fate. I do believe though that now. It's more up to us than it's ever been. I think we're the chief agents of evolution solution now so evolution now has mind attached to it so we'd better use our minds wisely and use these tools for the common good. I think yeah no one hundred percent in which brings me to what I think is one of your favorite subjects to getting deeper into the future and I know you and I are both fans this idea the singularity for anyone one watching who's not familiar with that term okay so the singularity. There's a lot written and said about this idea. it's actually originally a physics term so it's a term that's. Information Technology futurists borrow from physics and originally the meaning is what happens when you go through a black hole and apparently the laws of physics kind of collapse when you go through that black hole so you can't really you can't really know what what happens when you go through it and so it's it's it's a metaphor that's been borrowed to describe a moment when the packs of information technology coalescing artificial intelligence the biotechnology revolution volusia reprogramming our biology and the nanotechnology revolution which turns like matter into a programmable medium everything the level of the atom becomes manipulable and so essentially these three overlapping revolutions are predicted to lead us towards a moment that after which is impossible for us to predict what happens next week because when we EH radically extend our cognitive capacities with digital tools infinitely more advanced digital tools even than what we have today or when we create a non biological mind and which is coming soon. I mean there's the blue brain. Project is spending over a billion dollars to create a digital sentence and the whole point is that this mind wouldn't be bound by the physical limitations that we have. We're fifty six K modem. You know we're we're. We're at one point. Oh imagine like a nine point zero mind on the silicon on that can upgrade itself so the whole point is trying to imagine the new sublime mind spaces that will emerge is like like trying to explain to a chimp the nuances of Shakespearean sonnet. It's just no matter how bright the chimp is. He can't get the nuances of of language and so that's where it gets excited because I think the singularity open the the the metaphor it just it opens us to the possibility of imagining the NFL imagining the almost impossible to imagine and so it lends itself to wonderful speculation. I think a lot of speculation for me. I get very very excited by you know Ray Kurzweil abundance all of that stuff. I can't get enough whenever I read or hear talk with people about in like. Oh so scary and I know that at one point you said you know what if what if that consciousness is actually more empathetic. It's like I had never heard that perspective before because everyone thinks about it. It's like the machines are coming. That's it. We're going to get totally. So what do you think about that. I mean and I thought that was such. Does that tie into your do you have spiritual beliefs. I mean not traditional ones. I grew up in a secular Jewish household but my mom is an artist and a poem so I think our religion was art. Art Is transcendent you know and I defy transcendence As when the sum of the parts adds up to more than the parts you know you put you put materials together in a certain way and what results exceeds seeds those materials and music and art and languages so transcendent and so that's that's my version of spirituality but to answer your question you know we've always been scared of change disruption when when writing was invented. I've read that socrates used to being opposed to it because he says if we write things down. We won't have to remember anything and so our brains will rot so there's been you know. The establishment of the time is afraid eight of these new disruptive tools because they shake up the status quo and I think it's the same fear that people had about video games. Oh you are GONNA make us. All you know violent or they're gonNA atrophy trophy our brains when in fact it's found out you know video games. Engage your problem solving skills engage your strategy skills and your brain and all these amazing ways you know. I don't know if you've heard of the book. Reality is broken..

Should I Take the Safe Job or Do What I Love?

"So now I'm part time due to the economy however I think this is the greatest gift of a my background is in video production and development. Here is a situation my best friend adviser setting me up with the job that I don't really want. It's focused on graphic design number crunching and sitting behind minded desk for around thirty five thousand year awesome for just being out of college and Patrick Rights however my passion is in the entertainment industry. I really WANNA find work in Hollywood alleyways or even here at home in Chicago working behind the scenes with media and video. Do I take the job that will provide comfort and pay the bills or should I pursue my odd dream job. Even though I'll start at the bottom I'll be able to use my entrepreneurial skills to work my way up little sidebar. My friend is saying that I will be throwing away a big relationship opportunity with him and this company by turning down the job because it will greatly expand my capabilities tendencies however are to actually work in something really. WanNa do you do I pursue my dreams and sacrifice and hospital relationships or the close front Patrick Awesome Freakin question and I have a very very strong opinion. You're Patrick what I say. Now run to your freaking dream job. Now go for it. Yes yes yes yes. Yes and I think your friend is. Maybe talk your friend but we'll talk about him. In a minute here is the deal Patrick's. Now is your time now. Of course I think you should pursue your passion at any age but the truth is the a younger you start the easier. It can be so you say just add college which means you're likely in your early twenties. This is the thing this probably only time in your life brother that you're not. GonNa have big financial obligations like mortgage or a family to take care of so you need to run. Do Not Walk to your dream job do it now. I also want to mention three things in your question that caught my attention that rhymed. I you say ore. Should I pursue my dream job. Where even though all start at the bottom demanding I'll be able to use my entrepreneurial skills to work my way up the salary they are offering. You is thirty five thousand a year. I got news for you man that he started out the bottom line is is that it really is an entry level salary salaries you might as well start at the bottom and feel that you really want to work in rather than push papers and number crunching just because you're a friend. Slash advisor wants you to do it when you're young long. Hungary and willing to produce results consistently. That's a key word. You're really gonNA work your way up to big opportunities fast. Here's the problem I run into with a lot of people. That are your age. They're inconsistent. They may be super talented than great at what they do and driven but they're not producing results consistently there either to focused don partying or they have personal drama and it really gets in the way of their professionalism and of moving up in their field don't do that once you get your foot in the door a star from the GECKO and here's what that means show up on time be proactive be professional. You want to treat the person's business whoever you're working for like it's your business awesome. Tell you do that. The Sky is going to be the limit second. Thing I want to mention is I'm a little suspect of your best friend or adviser as you call them. You only WanNa work work with someone who has your best interest in mind. Here's the thing with a real friend. You are never gonNA lose out on some big relationship opportunity. Why because all they're going to want is the best for you. What's in your best interest. What you want in your heart. They're going to be happy for you even if it doesn't serve them now the final thing I want to highlight highlight which is the most important is this. You said my tendency however actually work in something that I really want to do. There's an old saying and it goes like like this and here's people rarely succeed at anything unless they they have fun doing it bottom line Patrick. If you enjoy media and video production do it for life and get paid for it. Go follow your dream but now trust me when I say it is possible to get paid for doing what you love. You'll never regret doing what your heart tells you to do. That's all I got for you Patrick. I hope you enjoy it this way to your now. If you've got insight to share about going for your dreams I want to hear about it in the comments

How To Get Motivated

"And business. I feel embarrassed. Meet my friends because i don't want to talk about what i'm doing. I've applied to so many jobs to no avail. I don't seem to be putting enough effort into business. I'm baking very little money and i'm falling deeper into debt. I have time and a very supportive husband but still i can't seem to you get motivated. What is going on what is holding me back joanna joanna joanna joanna first thing. I want you to know a girl is you are not alone. Every single person on the planet at some point in their life has experienced this including me and it's very very powerful. I want to tell you a little story a few months ago my friend we'll call him. John was going through a similar situation. Johnson is twenty. He's super talented really cute really smart but he was feeling lost in his life and he was embarrassed about it. He'd been stuck in the same retail job for years and he felt like time was passing them by. I shared a few ideas with him and within a few weeks his whole life changed. I mean completely completely and i'm not kidding you. He got a new job his relationships back on track and most importantly. He's not embarrassed to talk about what he does anymore and he's really excited together and go to work every day. When you're stuck in a rut and embarrassed about your life there are steps. You can take to get back on track. Here's what my buddy john did that you can do to number one be honest. Most of us have the tendency to hide are true feelings and pretend that everything's okay when the truth is it's. Not you know how they say. The truth will set you free. Oh well. It's totally true whenever you're not honest with yourself or others. You're just gonna say stock. The first step that johnson was being honest with me now. Being honest honest with your friends does not mean that you're debbie downer or that your burden especially if you stick to the facts of end stay out of victim for example if you're talking to a friend and they ask how you're doing don't lie to say you know what i'm going through a really tough time right now. Remember you're hiding isn't fooling anyone. It's just keeping you stuck speaking of hiding that brings me. The number to set number two is to get out and be around people. Don't be a hermit until you get this all figured out. Most people think that they're not good company if they're going going through a rough patch and that's just not the truth my friend john came to stay with us for the weekend so even though he was going through a rough time he does not fail on social life. Start making plans with your friends friends fill up that calendar just being around people help. Get you out of the rut step number three the most important. You have got to take action once. John told me what was up. I yeah i knew he had to read my book. Every man what you now on the surface it seems like relationship book but really truth be told it is a book about kicking ass in life and i knew he had to read it. I gave them a copy and he started digging. In immediately he point there he did something may seem obvious but most people wind and wallow in their misery rather than just doing something about it you could read a book like mine are take some personal development workshop or maybe you can go see therapists or how about this. Maybe you should go see the doctor and get a whole <music> all round of legwork done to make sure your health is on track and get things done. You can call back a friend. You've been meaning to talk to clean out a drawer or maybe take a class that you've been meaning. Take forever start with one thing. Even if you think it has no relevance to the big life problem that you're trying to solve you know my mantra. Everything is figure out but you won't figure this one out in your head. You need to get out and take action. Step number four and i love this step. Forget about motivation and this is a tweet meetable losers. Wait for motivation winners. Just get done so many people wait to feel motivated baited before they do anything. Here's a newsflash happy. Productive people do not wait for motivation. They just get on with it rather than trying to be motivated trauma. Bring bring the party technique. This is the thing that john got from my book. That worked like a charm in john's case. Bring the party party meant getting really into his job. The job he already had he decided to throw himself into every little task and you know what he's having a good time no matter what he was doing doing he had fun doing pretty soon. All kinds of cool things open up for him more clarity money happiness new opportunities you name it. Wouldn't you know it's totally clear on what he wants to do. In life and he's already booked gig in that field. Do not underestimate how powerful this bring the party technique is and you kinda gotta and do the shoulder shake like this when you bring the fun and passionate everything that you literally become a magnet for great stuff to start happening to that's what i got joanna. I hope you enjoyed it. Don't forget to let us know how it

Ready to Challenge Yourself? Here's Your Instant Motivation.

"And life you love and this. My friend ain't q. and a. tuesday. It's actually you and a tuesday where i asked the question and the answer comes from you a in the answer trump from so my question which i will ask you in just a moment comes from an idea that i strive to live my life bye and that ideas this. You never get stronger if you only do easy things now to clarify. I'm not saying that you should make everything harder on yourself. I am i'm all about simplicity and efficiency where it makes sense. This is also not about pushing yourself so hard that you get injured or sick but what i am talking about is the manse mance value that comes from doing really really hard things from putting yourself in situations where you know you're going to struggle or from doing things that are so far beyond in your current skill set that it humbles your ass. Let me tell you about a classic took a few months ago so i was working to build up my strength and my stamina because going on book tour can be grueling and i wanted to be ready for it now. I talk a lot about fitness and movement and i am someone who moves a lot however it's been a real long time since since i've been a nike dance athlete and can shoot like four fitness videos in one day even with a broken toe so point being my strength was nowhere near what it used to be so i figured weird i start taking more challenging classes at my gym now most of these classes i had never taken before so i had no idea what i was getting into so one day i i signed up for this class and it was called met. Con three should have known better because that is a scary ass name but it was only forty five minutes and i said to myself. Hey i can do anything for forty-five minutes. Famous last words not even seven minutes into that class. I wanted to die. I'm not kidding. I had no idea how is gonna survive. Thirty eight more minutes of this torture chamber we're talking nonstop squats and lunges imply. Oh metrics all with weights and all on a damn step. You know everybody hates burp well. This guy had us doing double burpee then he had us doing these frigging air jacks and one guy in the front of the class he was like the happiest most fittest grasshopper you ever met he he was smiling he was sweating. He was leaping meanwhile. I can't feel my legs and i need to sit down. I think you get the idea. I mean this was hell. It was that kind of physical sickle humbling hell that you wouldn't wish on your worst enemies. That's right but somehow somehow. I made it through the full forty five minutes and yes i was on the struggle bus the entire time but of course after i felt <hes> i didn't feel amazing at all. I had a massive headache. I was read as a lobster and i seriously wanted to quit at life but after i took a shower in replenish some electrolytes and actually down for a few minutes actually did feel pretty great. The bottom line is this easier. My friends is not always better now. Obviously this story was all about working out but i found the same thing to be true in my business and in my personal life doing hard things makes me stronger whether whether it's physical emotional or mental strength is where it's at and i gotta say no matter what hard thing you're doing whether or not you actually reach your goal is less important within who you become in the process so here is the cue that i want you to eight today and it's a two parter think about your past right now. What an instance where you tackle hackel something really challenging and grew so much stronger as a result partout. What's one hard thing that you know you need to start doing right now. How to Figure Out Anything as a Multi-Passionate Entrepreneur

"Dive on now. I feel like you need no introduction but i feel like let's do it like give me marie forleo at a glimpse yes well. You know we'll take it back for anyone listening. If we've never met before i like going back to the old days of when i popped out of college and was super excited about doing something i was hoping is going to be meaningful in the world and that would allow me freedom and to build financial oh freedom and all those things i think many of a stream of and i found myself on the floor of the new york stock exchange wall street and i was super excited john because i'm a person who has a lot of energy and and there is literally no physical seats on the floor. They have these things that pop out from the wall. They're like fold up seats but there's no real seats and i was pumped to be there. I was grateful to be there. I grew up in a working class family on the first person in my family to ever go to college. That was a really big deal and to have this job on wall street was like a._m. Proud i. I have a steady paycheck. I have health benefits like this is good and i'm not gonna lie. I was always someone who is very ambitious. I experienced a lot of pain heenan my childhood specifically around money and i saw how much pain the lack of it caused and i saw my mom go through so much feeling so powerless us around money and you know quite frankly i saw that many moms and adult women when i was growing up and so i had made a pact to myself that when i became an adult i wanted to do ever ever was possible to earn a lot of money not because i care about nice shoes or a lot of materialism. That's really that's not my life. I love experiences and i also left taking care of. If people like it's part of my nature and i wanted to be able to take care of others so at this wall street job guys around me were earning like a jillion dollars a year more money then i could have ever conceived ub growing up yet there is a big problem most of them while they seemed rich and successful and powerful on the outside seemed spiritually bankrupt one way i could see that was used to pine for these like two weeks of vacation that they had every year that that was the only thing they we had to look forward to and then of course the lifestyle of wall street was very typical of what we see you know back in the ninety s. Which was you know. The bell rings at four p._m. You hit a strip strip club. You do lines of coke and i'm like oh my god. This is so not me plus. It was ninety nine point nine percent men gender inequality and gender balance was insane. I was trying so hard to be taken seriously. I've always had very long hair but on wall street. I actually had a pixie cut. I cut off all my hair in an effort to be taken seriously. I just wind fine my spot in this world so cut to six months into that job. I started hearing this little still small voice inside that was like marie. This isn't worse must obey. This isn't what you're meant to do. You need to get out of here and that was hard to hear because that little voice was not telling me what else i was supposed supposed to do and i tried to ignore it because again. It felt wildly irresponsible. I i don't again comparable wealthy family. I didn't have a trust fund. I was tens of thousands of dollars in debt after college. Delay quitting steady job without having a backup plan seemed insane right not what i was going to do but got to the point where i could no longer ignore that voice in one day on the floor. I had what i can only describe to be some what of a mild panic annika tack. You know. I'm walking around. I started getting dizzy. I had trouble breathing. I felt like really nauseated like i was going to throw up and told my bosses like had to get out and go grab a cup of coffee thirty instead of getting the caffeine i made a beeline to the nearest church i had grown up in a catholic household and i went to a catholic university so i was kind of trained to new crisis. Ask god for help some kind of guidance. I'm sitting on the steps trinity church bawling my eyes out in my little kind of you know they give be these like dark blue blazers that you are in the floor exchange miscarriage running down my face and the first one i got was to call my dad which made sense because i was so just i. I felt so guilty to be honest with you because i knew how much he busted his ass to put me through school that i didn't want to be a disappointment so i opened my flip phone. If anyone remembers those call my pops and was just bawling my face out. I finally took a breath to catch my breath. He interrupted. He said ray com now. Now you're fine. He's like you've worked since you were nine years old. I am not worried about you keeping a roof over your head or paying your bills look. You're gonna work for the next forty forty or fifty years of your life. You have got to find something you love and if this isn't it and you're getting yourself this second this upset then you gotta adequate and you've got to do whatever it takes to find something you love and don't stop looking until you find it and so that was kind of my first permission slip you you get the f out of there but you know. I honestly had no clue how to find something. I loved and there's even a skeptical part of my brain. That was like what does that mean somewhere deep in my soul. I knew it was right so i went on a bit of an odyssey to try and find out who i was and my only clues were that i loved creativity. I was highly the creative. I thought i was going to be either an animator for disney or a painter or fashion designer and i loved business and marketing. My dad was an entrepreneur in a small business owner and i got to see him operate his small printing business growing up so i thought magazine publishing might be the place for me right. There's like the the editorial side and there's the ad side commerce business art all of it and so. I got a job at gourmet magazine in their ad sales department. I was like okay. This is going. It'll be and it's gonna be awesome right now. In terms of the landscape there was many more women. My boss was a woman. The publisher of the magazine was a woman. They were all amazing. I'm like like this is wonderful. I love to eat it was gourmet by my little cubicle was next to the test kitchen so the chefs would be like hey. We're trying out this new recipe. Do you want to chase yeah. That's right. I was like who has to like this on your police. Bring the snacks but the same thing happened about six months. I started hearing that voice jonah voice right. This isn't who you're supposed to be and then i started to really feel a sense sense of panic because i watched my peer group around me. They were all starting to get promotions. They were all kind of getting this foothold in their life and here i was wanting to quit. Quit my job yen so i thought to myself okay. Wall street was very numbers focused. The ad sales side of a magazine is very numbers focused. Maybe i have gone too far on that nightside. Maybe i need to really strengthen my creativity. What if i'm supposed to be on the editorial side so hustled my buns off. I got a position as a fashion assistant at mademoiselle and i was like okay. This is gotta be at gona photo shoots fashion shows in the new product lines you know working with layouts like all these highly creative things and when she now at six months in same thing started happening at and i have to be honest here because i started started to feel really broken you know i had graduated the valedictorian of my class and i'm a very hard worker and couldn't square. How can i be this committed to doing really good work and this freaking clueless about who i am in this world like why does nothing fit and so when i was at that the job i was on the internet one day probably when i shouldn't have been and i stumbled upon what was a new profession at the time now you gotta get guys. This is nineteen ninety nine like nine hundred ninety nine. It was talking about this new profession called coaching which at that point no one had ever heard of before jenna when i read this article all about people that had these coaching businesses about how it was so focused on co creating strategies with people it was very positive. It was very forward moving. It sounded really exciting. It was as though something inside of my heart broke open. It was like the clouds parted and little cherubs. We're we're seeing like little sunbeam's. Shooting out of there is right into my heart and something about it just felt so right. However my very critical mind signed immediately stepped in. Who do you think you are who the hell is gonna hire a twenty-three-year-old life coach. You haven't even lift life yet. You can't even keep a job for more than six months your ten thousand dollars in debt. You have nothing to offer anyone. This is nuts. This is crazy by the way how cheesy is a term life coach which so that's where i was but i couldn't deny that this was the right thing i had ever felt in terms of calling and so i signed up for three year coach training program with coach university and i continue to work at the magazine during the day can i was my paycheck. That's how things went fast forward a few months. I got a call all from the h._r. Department at conde nast publications. They had a promotion for me. It was an opportunity at folk more money a lot more prestige staying on that steady paycheck health benefits train and that jenna was my work on the road a on the safe path or do i do this weird thing called life life coaching which no one has ever heard of i think as cheesy as hell but sounds amusing and so i quit my job and i went back to bartending in waiting tables else and decided to start my business at twenty three so what has happened since twenty three because has happened and i'm juiced just giggling as you're talking because i feel like every listener can relate to these voices the one that is like who do you think you are in the one that is like you you were made for this and like it's just this constant conversation in our heads in if if the world saw the conversations that you're having in our heads we would look like geico

Hey it's Marie forleo and you are watching TV the place to be to create a business and life you love and this is cuny to stack and today's question comes from Tracy and she writes hi Marie I'm starting to make a name for myself and my friends and strangers are coming out of the woodwork asking if they can pick my brain or bounce ideas off off me or grab a coffee to ask me about my business and share their ideas first of all I feel like they should buy my product a training program that would answer most of their questions but I don't WanNa see money hungry or super sales e with my friends second <music>. I'm busy building and running my own business and I don't have the time to spare. I'm not sure how to deal with this. I've just been ignoring all request and feeling guilty. What do I say to people who WanNa grab coffee or pick my brain tracy? This is a great question. She didn't something so many of us struggle with. I know it can feel really uncomfortable to say no but when you ignore things like this it completely nags at you you feel guilty as you've already said and plus all these requests keyed up a ton of your mental and emotional bandwidth remember that people are always grateful for an honest answer especially when it's delivered a loving and Compassionate Way and remember there's lots of ways that you can help people for free spur example. You can direct people to blog content. You can do a set amount of pro bono work. You can offer scholarships however if you're starting to get bombarded with tons of requests for people to pick your brain or meet for coffee and you don't want to do it here are three scripts that you can use script number one. This spice girl script or in my work schedule is full so coffee is not doable these days. Are you interested in becoming a client or do you just have a quick question. This makes the asker get real about what they really want from you. So if they want to become a client you can direct them to yourself material and if they have a question they know they'll need to be really quick script number to pay me mother hubbub. Look I know you don't WanNa seem overly sales -I but you've gotta get your experience experience and your expertise are valuable loss. You deserve to earn an honest living my friend Todd Herman has this great analogy for brain pickers and I think it can really help shift your mindset. Here's how he puts it. Would you ever walk into a store walk. Walk up and grab clothes off Iraq and then walk out without paying of course not because that would be stealing still brain picker. Don't expect to walk into my head. Grab everything you want and walk out without paying. Here's a classy way of directing people to your product or program. I'm not available for lunch but you should really consider getting my LANC. It's all of my best thinking in one place and I created to help people in your exact situation or if you don't have a product. Dr Program try this. I don't have time to grab a coffee unless we're doing it as an official business meeting and my charge consultation if your game is script number three blaming among the toughest one can be when it semi social and they wanna WanNa grab coffee to get to know you want to network and likely pick your brain f why they will pick your brain so you know how this goes. Hey Murray I love what you do you like you and me were like the same person percents bananas right so I'm really into meeting like minded people and expanding my network of awesome powerful woman and I'd love to meet with you and have coffee some time. Would you be up for that well. What are you going to say no? I don't have time for new friends actually yes. You are going to see that but here's a nice way to say it so you don't come across like an arrogant d. bag now if you don't know what a d. bag is. I'm going to tell you but I don't WanNa get yelled out because there's a bunch of bags out there. Who Love to yell at me? I have a rule if. I don't have time to see my mother. I don't have time to meet New People for coffee and right now. I Oh my Mama visit the seriously. I'm sure we have a blast and I hope you're not insulted but my work schedule is packed and I've gotta pass the bottom line. Is this and you bet your buns. It's tweakable if they want to pick your brain asthma pick a time and a method of payment because at the end of the day if you want people to value your time you I'll have to put a value on it tracy. That was my aid to your queue. Hopefully these scripts have helped now. I would love to hear from you. Do you have a Go-to way to answer people who want to pick your brain or take you out for coffee or have you ever. I've been that person who's asking to take someone out to coffee or pick their brain where you handled elegantly. "Welcome to the Marie Forleo podcast. The audio version of my ward winning show Murray TV now short. Visit Marie Forleo dot com slash Marie TV where you'll find hundreds of other episodes. Thanks for listening. Hey, it's Marie four. Leo. And you are watching TV the place to beat a crate a business and a life that you love and today's awesome because it's one of our favorite segments called. In this segment. We highlight a business that just gets it from their messaging to their website all the way through to their product. They're just awesome. And today, I want to focus on a brand that I recently discovered called artifact uprising. So what they do is they create high quality physical prints from your digital photos and even from Instagram now while you're going to discover they're doing tons of things, right? I wanna focus on three smart strategies that you can use in your business starting today. Smart strategy number one is you've got to drive desire and the best way to drive desire is to know what you're really selling and focus on that. And these people do it. Well, so they're not just selling easy prints of your digital photos with the really selling is a feeling of connection to ourselves to our memories and to our milestones. And in this digital age. That's something. That's missing check it out every. Everywhere you look on their site. There's a feeling of touch ability of beautiful meaningful objects that ground us in the real world. And check out this smarty pants line off your device and into your life. It's got a great double. Meaning we're getting your photos off your device into your life. And we're getting you off your device and into your life. So they do a great job of making us realize that our lives are not on our phones there about real people and high quality things that we can share with real people that we actually love. So what they're really selling is connection. And now I want you to ask yourself. What are you really selling? If you like this topic. And you want to go deeper we did a whole video about it. And I'll put the link below smart strategy number two. Is you want to work your y? So as our friend Simon cynic says people don't buy what you do they buy why you do it and artifact uprising a brilliant job of letting us know why they do what they do. They are super clear. In their purpose. And they let you know all over the place have a look under the purpose within every product section. You can see that. They love the outdoors and strive to use recycled and reclaim materials wherever possible they use mountain beetle pinewood, which is otherwise considered waste material. And as US based company, they make their products in the USA, and it gets even better as they say our calendars and woodblock prints provide jobs for dull with intellectual and developmental disabilities. So as you can see they talk about the why behind what they do on every part of their site. It's honest, it's heart based, and of course, it inspire sales. So now you've got to ask yourself. Are you clear on the why behind what you do? Are you clear about what you stand for? And most importantly, are you doing a good job letting us all know about it smart strategy number three is you wanna highlight your humanity? So in a world where everyone's trying to pretend to be bigger than who. Who they are often say we when it just one person behind a laptop artifact uprising is amazing because they're small and they're proud of it take a look here. They say we've grown from three people working in a basement to a team of twelve yet. The roots remain the same. We pride ourselves on being a small company, and we think that matters because at the end of the day, we take it personally all of it. We take it personally that is such a beautiful and vulnerable reminder that there's a real person and real people at this company who actually care if you buy their products, and this is another example. So I recently ordered some prints from them. And when I got my package in the mail. I opened it up and the first thing I saw was this beautiful card, and then I flipped it over. And this message really touched me, we stand behind the products, we create if you're not happy with the quality of your order, or you believe your product has a manufacturing defect or shipping damage, please contact us. So we can make it right? Right. Those last nine wars they are everything please contact us. So we can make it right? You know in today's world people are so quick to take their upsets and their complaints. And they're grapes straight to social media. And I love that artifact uprising saying, hey, look, everything doesn't go perfect all the time. So if there's a problem come to us, so we can fix it. They take so much pride in what they do. And again, they're leading with their humanity. And even the fact that this is on like beautiful heavy card stock. This is something so different than you would get from a huge big box company. So I want you to ask yourself take a look at your sales process. Are there any places that you can add more humanity back into your business? Now, there's lots more that this company is doing right so go check them out at artifact, uprising dot com. They are amazing now, let's turn the focus back to you and your business. Remember insight without action is worthless. So I which one of these three smart strategies could help you the most. I and what's one action step? You could take right now to move all of this ahead. Now as always the best discussions happen. After the episode over Marie folio dot com. So go there and leave me a comment. "Welcome to the Marie Forleo podcast. The audio version of my ward winning show Murray TV now short. Visit Marie Forleo dot com slash Marie TV where you'll find hundreds of other episodes. Thanks for listening. Hey, one quick thing on may eighth. I'm teaching free class the five writing mistakes that are killing your sales and how to fix them. It's going to be awesome. And it is free so go save your seat right now at the copy cure dot com. Hates Marie poor. Leo. And you are watching Marie TV the place to be to create a business and a life that you love and this is CUNY Tuesday. Today's question comes from miss Evelyn, Evelyn writes. Hi, Marie after watching all your recent videos. I've been thinking a lot about the strong sense of trust. You create in your business through free phone calls videos, and newsletters, you come across as genuine friend funny one at that who we can rely on to pursue our dreams as an artist. It's crucial for me to communicate this same sense of trust potential clients in order to get more commission work. However, I'm struggling with where to begin since I can't really offer full refunds once I put paint to canvas I feel like I'm a step behind in the please trust me game. So my question is what are some steps? I can take to communicate a genuine sense of trust to appeal to potential clients. Thank you for your time. Evelyn? Great question Evelyn, creating trust is an essential part of greeding of business and life that you love. But before we go any further, I wanna nip something in the bud. So you talked about feeling step behind in this please trust me game. And I wanna tell you something that is not true. You do not have to offer refunds in order to create trust. Obviously that doesn't work for your business model. So just don't do it. Now. I know you're asking yourself will what do I do then? And I'm gonna give you some insights. But I gotta say in our business. Ironically, we've never really thought about creating trust. And maybe that's why people feel a great sense of trust with us. There's no formula to follow. There's nothing really strategic. We do. Besides be really, honest, really transparent and only do and say what we believe in. So all that being said here are two principles that can help you inspire trust in your customers. Number one is be true to you. So in my company and on this show. We only do things that we re. Really believe in. We only say things that we can stand behind and in my own life both in the business. And personally if I don't feel it I don't do it. And if I don't believe in it. I don't say it bottom line is I don't pretend ever except perhaps. Maybe when I'm playing Smurfs kingdom. And some in you all to get my mushrooms so little behind the scene secret from reteach when we start to write out, these episodes. If I start to make us ingestion. I always ask myself. Wait a minute. Would I actually do this or do I actually do this? If the answer is no, I don't write it. Same thing. If I'm like, oh, I can really relate to this fear. And I check myself and go, wait. I actually don't have that fear that I don't say it and similarly in our business if people try and give us money for things that we don't wanna take money for for example, like putting ads on our site. We just say no as an artist you can and should do this too. So for example, if you're an abstract artist and someone wants you to paint a portrait of their pet ferret named big dick, you can say, no, thank you. I painting dick in other words, if you don't feel it don't do it. And when you're honest with yourself and honest with your market, you will instantly inspire trust number. Or to you want to set clear expectations. So in my company, we are obsessed with letting people know how things are going to work. So for example, if you sign up for our Email us, we tell you. Here's what's going to happen next. Here's when you can expect your from us if you sign up for be school. Here's exactly what's going to happen next. We're going to walk you through the process. Same thing with the live event were always trying to let people know exactly what's going to happen next. What this does is remove fear and uncertainty and completely set people at ease and it inspires trust. As an artist you can do this too. So, you know, the biggest concern people have about a commissioned custom piece their thinking in their minds. What happens if I don't like it? So why not set up a process will you walk people through exactly what's going to happen. So in our business, we commissioned a custom piece of artwork for office. We love it. And the reason I love it is because the artist actually took us through the whole process step by step. She showed us her. Time-line? She allowed us to give feedback. She showed us the progress along the way, and the thing came out amazing now for you as an artist you may not want to give your clients inability to give feedback. So you gotta make the right choice for you. But the point is if you walk people through the process, and you give them an option somewhere to say, you know, what this isn't for me. I'd actually like to back out. They're gonna feel so much more comfortable doing business with you. So let's wrap this up with tweet oval. Filled your business on truth and trust will build itself that was my eighty or Evelyn let us know how it goes. And now, I would love to hear from you. So what makes you trust them one enough to do business with them any do's and don'ts that you'd like to share either from your own business, or as a customer as always the most awesome discussions happen. After the episode over at Marie Forleo dot com. So get yourself over and leave a comment right now. Did you like this video if so subscribe to our channel? For the answer. Now the question I want you to answer today that I'm gonna get to in just a moment is inspired by a profound insight from one of our pass gas. And personally, I gotta tell you. I come back to this idea again, and again, and again, I use it to make sure that I am not living my life on autopilot or living in a way that's dictated by other people's expectations of who I should be. This idea is from brawny wear who's not only a B school grad. But the author of the incredible book the top five regrets of the dying. Now, if you haven't seen our interview with brawny, you need to watch it right after this one I'll put a link below. So the short story is that brawny was a palette of nurse who sat by the bedsides of the terminally ill for years. That's Marie corley dot com slash subscribe. Hey, it's Marie four. Leo. And you are watching. Tv. The place to be to create a business and like the you love and today, it's CUNY Tuesday. Today's question comes from SIA. And she writes, hey, Marie. There's a saying the early bird catches the worm. But I have to admit I have never been fond of mornings, even as a child. I loved my sleep, and my most energetic hours are from ten AM to one PM or eight PM to ten PM at night. I sometimes feel judged and labeled as lazy by my husband and others because I'm not an early bird. I feel late risers get a bad rap. And that I can be just as or even more productive person that gets early. What do you think can this night? I'll catch a hefty mouse instead of a measly worm. Thanks, SIA SIA. This is such a divisive topic. That's probably because we've all been conditioned to think that the only route to success is being an early riser and. You know, I will admit late risers do get a bad rap. But here's the thing. Each human being comes with their own krono type their own sleep preferences. Meaning we come pre-programme to either be an early bird or a night. Owl. Now. Can you change this in theory? Yes, you can. But it is very very difficult to change your natural body clock. And the world does have an undeniable bias for morning people. I mean in stock photos, they're always the one time in a great time. Like this. And night. Owls always look like this. Night house like yourself may always feel like you're kind of at war with the world. I mean, that's because schedules and work schedules. Often demand early starts that can create something called social jetlag. You're always feeling sleep deprived? And you're always feeling tired because you're trying to adjust to schedule that's not natural to you. But here is the bottom line. It doesn't matter. Whether you're an early bird or a night out. You can be productive and happy no matter what. And they both have their advantages and their disadvantages. There are loads of productive night. Owls, and if you Amos ones include President Obama, Bob Dylan and French novelist, George song and great early birds, Ben Franklin Condoleeza Rice, Ernest Hemingway. So here's the deal SIA. This whole conversation comes down to respect you have to respect your own body. Clock, and you got to respect others. So when it comes to work and getting things done really honor your most productive times, and at the same time honor those of people around you now, it's true that as a night owl. You're going to have to work a little bit harder and be a little more accommodating, but that should just give you more fuel to kick some major ass improve your husband and whoever else thinks you're lazy dead wrong. What speaking of your husband first thing you gotta do is show him this video. And the next thing you gotta do is sing him this song. Wake up. What's me SP? Shut off. Let me sleep. Socio let's wrap this up with a tweet able. No human believes that any other human has a right to embed when he himself is up Robert S Lind. Now, I would love to hear from you. So late als have you ever tried to change your nature, or if you and brace how you are? Do you have any great tricks to share with the rest of us and for all you early birds? What's your experience like with the night? Owls. Do you have any advice to share with how you honor and respect the differences as always the best discussions happen? And you are watching Marie TV the place to be to create a business and in life that you love and today's QNA Tuesday that means cues as today's question comes from Ginny. And she writes, hi, Marie. I'm newly named female CEO of tech startup. I'm so excited and really feel like I'm qualified for the role. And we'll bring a lot to the table. That said, I'm a kind positive person, actually, positively is one of my five Gallup strength, finders strength. I love this about myself, but have experienced these two traits being viewed as weaknesses. I think people quite positively with being naive. I've tried suppressing these areas my personality in the past to be taken more seriously, but it doesn't feel genuine or healthy walking into the male dominated cutthroat tech world. I suspect these traits will again be seen as liabilities. But. I know I need to be me in order to give my best. You have any suggestions to help me with this sich? Thanks ginny. What you have is a rare and precious gift Jenny, positively is a powerful strength. It's what makes you come alive. So you need to really listen to me here. Suppressing who you are is not an option do not ever suppress any part of who you are to fit into the tech world the business world or any other world. Unless of course, you wanna spiral down into depression and mediocrity. You mentioned that in the past your, positively and kindness where Bued as weak Myra sponsor, ignore that feedback because I doubt those are the kind of people that you wanna take advice from you want associate with or that you want to lead in your organization and don't make an assumption that just because you're walking into a male dominated world that your core strength will be viewed as liabilities they might. Or they might not because here's the important thing. I want you to remember. The future of business is about being more connected to your humanity, not less, and that includes your positively kindness. Your enthusiasm, your vulnerability and most importantly, your heart. Let's look at this through lens of gardening for a minute. So every plant and flower thrives under different conditions between us, for instance, love full sun, anything less, and you won't get the extrordinary blooms that it's capable of producing impatience on the other hand love the shade. You give them too much on. And they're gonna fry and die just like flowers need the right condition to survive and thrive. So do you. You gotta realize that you're only as good as the people you surround yourself with. And it is vital that you put yourself in the right ecosystem one that gives you the chance to really flex your strengths. Put yourself in the right conditions. You will blossom put yourself on the wrong conditions. However like with a bunch of cynics, and you will wither and die. When you know, what makes you strong don't settle for less. There is no prize for suffering. My big unequivocal message to you is embrace your strength of positivity and be it daily your enthusiasm for life is contagious. Plus it gives other people permission to be kind and positive and enthusiastic leaders to. So let's review suppressing who you are not an option ignore people who consider your core, strengths weakness. Don't make sumptious about the environment. You're walking into keep an open, mind and heart. Those strengths of yours are the future of business and success. Now more than ever is the time to let them shine. And if you ever need a boost confidence to do that. Remember, this tweet -able? The future business belongs to the kind the enthusiastic the optimistic. So that was my eighty or cugini let us know how it goes. And now, I would love to hear from you have you ever been tempted to suppress one of your core strength because you thought you'd be seen as weak what specifically happened, and how did you handle it as always the best discussions happen? And you are watching Marie TV the place to be to create a business and life you love. And you know, what here in the US? We are just about to celebrate one of my favorite holidays thanksgiving. I love it for two reasons. One because I get to cook for my friends in too because I get to eat a lot of mashed potatoes, and those are two things I can do all day long. Now, this is also a time of the year when we all start to hear a lot about gratitude. And I love gratitude because I think it is the number one super tool to transform your life. But here's the thing. Gratitude can feel a little, you know, cliche. You might think. Like gratitude, I'm so over it been there done that. It's so Oprah in the nineties here is the deal, though, if you've got gratitude fatigue, I can pretty much bet you're doing it wrong. I know right. Who who knew you could do gratitude wrong? I didn't know that. Until I read this here book by Robert Emmons called gratitude works now Robert is the leading researcher on gratitude. Now, here's the thing. I want to teach you one trick that I learned from Robert that'll help take your gratitude. Practice from something that's kind of nice into a total miracle smoothie for your emotional wellbeing Vitamix required. Now before I tell you this one strategy. I gotta be up front. This is about gratitude journaling before you go journaling. That's just too much work. I don't wanna do it. Stop journaling is off. Awesome, two reasons. Number one when you journal you start to uncover personal insights about yourself, which can really help you unwired any negative patterns that you have. And we all have them number two when you journal on the regular you really develop discipline and discipline is awesome for following through in getting results. Now these benefits never come. When you just think about gratitude. So don't be so quick to dismiss the journal practice. Okay. So here is the big magic gratitude trick if you want the most ROI for your gratitude practice the dividends are in the details. It turns out that most of us are pretty blazey when it comes to our gratitude practice kinda like this. Dear gratitude, you're I'm grateful for Josh. I'm grateful for my parents. I'm grateful for my team. I'm grateful for Kuma. I'm grateful for our audience. I'm grateful in general what? What's wrong with that? It is way too general so research shows that if we want the most bang for gratitude buck, we have got to get specific that means way, more depth and less breath. Check this out the university of southern California did a ten weeks study on gratitude journaling with three groups the first group were generalists writing down five general things day. They were grateful for the second group got specific they picked one thing a day and wrote five sentences about it the third group wrote about ways, which they were better off than other people excuse us. Here's the results. It turns out that the group that wrote five sentences about one thing where more elated excited an alert than the other groups and less tired sad and lethargic line details equal dividends. And I gotta tell you this really really works. So I tried it. I am so grateful for Josh. But instead of just saying. Grateful for Josh I wrote down five really specific things that I'm grateful for and I want to read them to you right now. So I'm grateful that over the eleven years that we've been together. He's brought me a hot beverage in the morning at least fifteen hundred times he makes me laugh more than anyone else in the world because he's just so funny. He always says he sorry. I even if I'm being overly sensitive and not just to placate me. But because he genuinely is sorry, and he consistently hopes helps me to slow down to enjoy life. And most importantly, he makes the most delicious blueberry banana, walnut, peanut butter pancakes for me and all my friends cakes. She. To see this works. So if you want to help spread the word about the right way to do gratitude, then you gotta share this here. Tweet -able the pancakes. No, the tweet will. When it comes to. Gratitude. The dividends are in the details. So now, I would love to hear from you. And I want you to get grateful in the comments. So choose one person or thing that you're grateful for and right five specific detailed reasons. Why as always the best discussions happened after the episode over at Marie Forleo dot com. And you are watching Marie TV the place to be to create a business in life you love. And this is Tuesday. I'm so excited for it. This question comes from. And she writes, dear Marie thank you for being an inspiration and a role model. My question is a little bit embarrassing. I've a lot of goals in my life, and I've been working hard to accomplish them. However, I see people who are so happy portray their life to be so perfect. And I just feel a little bit jealous. Would you recommend to overcome that feeling of envy towards those who seem to have everything that I want? Thanks, and and thanks so much for asking this question. You know, I haven't met anyone who doesn't struggle with envy, including myself. So I want you to know there is nothing for you to be embarrassed about. Now, there are three really important things to keep in mind. When you're struggling with envy, or jealousy, or whatever you call that crappy feeling you. After you're comparing yourself to other. So let's start with number one tip number one. Is remember the filter factor? You know, Seth Godin calls the internet, the envy amplifier, and boy is he right? So what you may be forgetting an is the filter that all these happy, pictures and updates are being shared throw. So here's what I mean. Now, of course, there's filters on apps like Instagram that make colors pop and make bad skin as creamy as half-and-half, but there's another filter, and that's the filter that we all use to decide what we want to share publicly, and what we don't now this isn't manipulative, it's just normal. So for example, I was in Paris recently. I shared lows of picks. So I took picks of these beautiful flowers. I took pictures of me rediscovering red lipstick, and I also shared a little impromptu dance party. Now, you know, the shot I didn't take it was the one of me and Josh fighting in the rain because I was dragging him all over Paris in search of the perfect croissant. Now, that's not because I want everyone to think I'm perfect. It's because who would want to take a picture of yourself and your man fighting in the rain that would be weird. Here's some other things you won't see for me up Pinterest board of completely mediocre meals. Over over-paid for a list of sad face. A motor cons my failure feed. Or a gif of me popping is it my point here is that everything happy or great that you see has already been processed through several filter. So you're rarely seeing the whole picture tip. Number two is taste the rainbow. This may be the most important thing you hear the entire episode. So listen up. Now, the biggest emotional mistake that most people make when they're dealing with envy or any other bad emotion is they try to overcome it. What you resist per cysts? So the more you try and overcome envy, the more at actually get stuck with you check this out. My man Josh teaches that emotions are nothing more than atoms. Vibrating in our bodies at particular frequencies, and that we've been taught to label these vibration. As either good, emotions or Batum oceans. So for example, what we consider good emotions or good vibrations are things like happiness and excitement. And of course, Mark Mark and the funky bunch. And then there's what we call bad vibrations things like fear or sadness or your old friend envy. So what if we've stopped labeling all these things? And instead we just allowed ourselves to experience our motions for what they actually are vibrations and physical sensations inside our body. What if we just allowed ourselves to experience the full range of sensations or emotions that are essential to the human experience kind of like a rainbow of emotional sensations. So stop demonizing the emotion that you call envy and start getting skittles on your emotions and other whereas taste the rainbow girl. Tip number three is turn envy into action. So envy can be inspiring and instructive if you're envious of someone's results just let that fuel you ahead. The fact that they did means that it can be done and that you can do it too. So just give them a high five and associate second realized that envy is often a clue that there's something Layton in you that needs to be expressed. So let that B trigger you in a beautiful way. Let it guide you to where you need to take some more action your own life. So next time and that you're feeling some envy, don't feel embarrassed. Just remember this tweet -able. Don't hide your beat ride your envy from. She has what I want to. I'll have what she's having that was my aid your cue. And I hope it helps. Now, I would love to hear from you. How do you deal with N B when it pops up in your life? As always the best discussions happen. After the episode over at the fed tastic land of Marie Forleo dot com. "In this episode of Murray TV we do have some adult language. So if you have little ones around grab your headphones now. Well, Hello there and welcome to the Marie Forleo podcast. So my guest today is the incredible Jacqueline Johnson. Now, if you don't know Jaclyn you're about to meet her and fall in love with her. So here's a little bit more of her backstory. By the time she was twenty eight Jacqueline Johnson had sold her first business called no subject. And she invested in one of the country's top female own startups called away. She also launched her second multi-million dollar company create an cultivate accompanying brand that I personally love. So Creighton cultivate has over seventy five events to date. They have hundreds of thousands of followers in ten days and Jacqueline's also been named a Forbes thirty under thirty and Admiral disruptor, and she's also been profiled in fast company the LA times and entrepreneur magazine among others. Today, we're going to be talking about her first book which is called work party. It's a career manifesto on had a turn destr-. Trust into determination, frustration into fuel and heartache into hard work in that book is available now, Jacquelyn. Thank you so much for making the time to talk today woman horrors your favorite. Well, I told you this via text, but I wanna say it publicly your book work party is fantastic. I've read it covered a cover a, as you know, I'm in the middle of writing my own. So I know how hard this is, how much work it takes and you've done a brilliant job. Well, thank you so much. That obviously means so much coming from you. So let's dive in creating cultivate which most people know you for. And by the way anyone listening, if you don't know Creighton cultivate, you need to Google right after you. Listen to this podcast, but Jacqueline crinkled Vate isn't your first business rodeo. So I, I wanna go back in time when you made that big move from New York to LA and then three months later you were let go walk us through. Through some of that time in your life right before you were starting first business in what really got you to say, yes, I can do this and then actually start doing it. Yes. So I was obviously Mike early twenties. I was by all accounts, crushing it at my career. I was. I was moving up really quickly. I was really early adopter social media. I'm in terms of the corporate side in career side. So I was having all these successes. I was living in New York City at essentially got transferred Los Angeles for this job. I was so excited. I went in the door, super eager like really ready to crush it and basically was met with a backlash both culturally from the fit from allege New York, but also with the job in in sort of the environment. And they basically were not looking for someone to come in with big idea in lots of momentum and trying to basically shake it up. They were like, look, we have a thing here. We're trying to keep it status quo like. Can you just like sit there and do your spreadsheets than I couldn't do that? I was not my personality. It was not something I felt I was being successful at. I'd come from this environment that was super created collaborative, and I felt so inspired by that. So basically at every turn I was just like shutdown shutdown shutdown if you are non-premium person in that in a corporate environment that supports you, it's amazing if you're an entrepreneurial person in an environment that does not support that spirit. It can be the most stifling experience. So essentially that's what happened to me in about three months in I was laid off and or as I say, politely Lecco and. Wing it was. It was personally and professionally crippling. I had never felt more devastated, and there was lots of light look in the mirror and cry in watchers, outcry moments, but it was. It was one of those things that honestly transformed my life for the for the better. And I like to say, I didn't turn around they to start my own company. I took months of like while awaiting in my sorrows to to kind of get over that. So it's definitely, you know, I, it's brutal. It's difficult and I also was in a city where I knew no one. So it wasn't like I could lean on my network. I had from scratch. So basically the way my company happened in the way start becoming an entrepreneur starting my own business was very slow and steady and sort of happens Dan's. It essentially started with one client, so I emailed people said, hi, I got let go. I live in Los Angeles idea marketing ID's things. Anyone know anyone who needs someone. Luckily my network. Came through and I was able to get a few clients I was working from home. And essentially it was one of those things where I met another woman. He was out doing her thing freelancing starting her own company. And she basically said to me, oh, hey, like we should get an office space together and coming from New York City as you probably know the thought of office space as a freelancer with zero study income is like there's no way I can afford this office space, but in Los Angeles at the time, there was really amazing space available for very, very cheap. So like office office space, it was great. Honestly, just to get out of the house in being a new city. Basically, I just started getting more clients in more more momentum with my freelance business ended up starting a company with that that women and then we ended up getting insane traction amendment and obviously hiring employees. And it was one of those things where we were like, I guess we're a company now was non-strategic there was zero business plan or idea going into it. I think that's where so many of us starting member, you know, starting my business at twenty three I had no, I know clue anything like I looking back. I'm like, how do they have the audacity? And I'm so happy that I did, but I just want to drill into that point a little bit, you know? So many of us start great things in life, not knowing what the hell were doing. And then also we wind up paying a little bit of a price for that, which I have done many, many times throughout my career, which brings me to you and that first business did have a bit of a a harsh inexpensive ending. So much so that it gave you what I thought was very funny. This made me laugh out loud p p. t. s. s. post partner, trust stress syndrome. About less abou-. What happened? How that first business came to. It's unfortunate end, but really gave you some lessons for Rothe. Yeah, we'll what happened was an end. This is something not at the time I thought was a completely isolated incident like this has just happened to me. This is never happen to anyone else in the history of starting a company because I was so isolated from like an entrepreneurial community which will play into the Creighton pulpit story. But when I came to find out was actually this is a very normal occurrence for startups and companies in general. But essentially what had happened wise, this company that we had started, which was a marketing and events agency came together super fast and furious. We didn't know each other that while both personally and professionally, but it we had great momentum in great success early on with the business, which is obviously what you want. However, what we never had was upfront conversations about. Our roles in the company, our responsibilities, as well as what our shared vision of the company in growth would be. We just were moving so fast, which obviously momentum is amazing. I, it's one of those things that you can't pay for. So we were really fortunate in not, however it caught up to us. And so essentially a few years in a there was some discrepancies between myself and my partner end in ended in her leaving the company, which for anyone who knows what having a co-founders, like I mean, they're essentially your spouse like your your marriage, and it's it's devastating, it's going through a divorce and it was it was really hard, especially because I was so young. This is my first company. I obviously thought this was the end of the road, but I actually kept the business going by myself after that. So I kept it going for, I think three or four years after that adventure, we sold that company, but that was a heart heart wrenching. Vision as well because you're running a company then whose name you came up with together whose case studies you have together. So you have to kind of take on this new life lifeblood around the company around the employee's in really reinvigorate everything around it because there is this feeling of like something bad happened here, which is really difficult to get over and and I don't wanna make it sound like I bounced back right away. I mean, I took time I am. I really needed to kind of almost believe in myself again because there was a lot of like it wasn't even about what she had done or what our discrepancy was. I felt shame for myself. I felt guilty like I wasn't a good entrepreneur, and it was embarrassing almost for my clients to be like, Owen, she's no longer with the company in had you broach that and there's a lot of shame associated with failure and things falling apart and as women, I think oftentimes we take that blame on ourselves. Yes, it was. Really something that was difficult to get through, but getting on the other end of it. What happened was, I got a business one, oh one camp, coming out, the other side of it and having to take on the finances that HR the the sort of all the new degree that goes into running a company, not just being the creative or the ideas for sin. All the sudden became my my reality and it honestly was like, kicking kick in the butt to get me more established as an entrepreneur. And I learned so much. I mean, I literally wash u. two videos on how to get a quick books running and all these different things in it's honestly the best lesson I learned. And honestly now it's something that I enjoy doing as part of the business. It's really cool. So one of the things I want to drill into y'all for all details, you'll have to go pick work party and read it. 'cause Jacqueline shares everything that went down. You know, it was around money and I know you and I both share this passion. In interest in desire to talk about money and we'll, we'll talk about that a little bit later in our conversation, but I found it interesting Jacqueline how you know one of the big things that was never really discussed was money in how it's treated. And I've found that in my own career to be so utterly vital, especially when hiring team members. One of the things I've realized is how everyone in my company. We have this shared ethos around money, you know, and people all come from a very middle class, blue collar, kind of working class background. A lot of people's parents didn't go to college like my parents didn't, and I find that the more experience I get more important it is to to have alignment financially and to be able to have those money conversations at the front end of any kind of partnership or deal or even hiring people. So that folks are on the same page. And I wanted to tell you a lesson that I learned. The hard way in my own career was how important it is to have what I call a business pre-nup. How if you're doing any kind of deal you're bringing on a partner that you just like you said, it's like having a spouse, it's like getting married, and I think prenups are really good idea because the chance of a divorce is high. You're to creative people or more than two creative people, and the fact that people's lives change in their values change and their goals change. Somebody might want out. And if you don't have those discussions at the onset, so much more pain ensues at the back end. And usually it's really expensive, a hundred percent agreed. I loved the idea, I think. Yeah, it's like no one wants to talk about the ending half the beginning. Yes. If like you have to be clear on your parameters in what what? What you want in even further to that is like I talk a lot about people's relationships to money. I mean. Morley my parents didn't go to college. They both are entrepreneurs. They work their butts off like they're working constantly. Nice screw around that thought that was so normal. But you know, for me, it was like, I, my relationship with money's been really interesting because I'd like always been a worker. I love working in. It's like it's so much part of my personality and money was like a nice to have, but I was so built on like the vision of building something this this company, it was like, I aiming care how much we were making because we had so much momentum you're going so fast in like, I was like, this is awesome. Like, let's get more people in the door to refer us grow. I was focused on that. She wasn't. She was focused more on the money side of things wanting to make more money or be able to spend more money in different ways alongside our success. And there's nothing wrong with that. They're just two different viewpoints in relationships. Yes. A business should spend money when you're equal partners. I mean that you have to be, you have to be on the same page about that. The same could be said for your personal relationships as well. Yep, I agree. So let's talk about them the comeback year. So you had, you know this thing, it took a turn, an unexpected term. You recovered. What I found so fascinating was that when you first started to kind of dip your toes into the world of events that you went to like four or five events each week and started taking note of what you felt people were doing raw, right where he felt like there was this opportunity for growth, and I think it speaks to one of your many genius owns Jacqueline, which is you're really good at understanding the competitive landscape. So I'm curious, what did you notice you know for yourself that you guys and what your vision was for, what you do differently? Yes. So I had no background in invents, and basically what was happening at the time was I on my blog, which was, you know, giving momentum. The blogger world was still kinda thing at that point, and I was getting paid as an influence or in. I would get to go to all these amazing events. And what I was a couple of different things was one is like the personal element was missing from events. So there was you would show up. You weren't really sure where to go like no one would be guiding you through the experience. And it was kind of just one of those things where people, which no one would talk to each other and everyone would take a picture and leave.

"Hey it's marie forleo and you are on our live colin show on my gosh this is so exciting yeah we're excited to talk to you so i'm ready for your cue let me know what you've got let's see if we can help you out arctic in you one second so my name is hannah i'm also from north jersey i don't know what part of jersey or from i'm from bergen county awesome and right now i'm living in costa rica been here just over a year and i'm hoping on survey ration business on doing shark work so i've been working on that but i've found like i watched the videos i read the books i listen to podcasts i know what to do my problem is i never end up doing it i set intentions i let myself down every single time i might do really well for a few days but then i fall back right into where i started so i haven't i've been able to identify some self destructive behavior but i know like when i think about letting them go like i know i'm not ready so i don't try because i know like i'm just gonna fall right back into it again so even things that i wanna do i'm not doing like i'll be really excited to do something and then i'm like i'm just now tomorrow i'm not depressed i think i'm just lazy and i keep thinking that like i'm gonna find my motivation i'm gonna get my life together but it's been months that i've been here like and i don't have much to show for it and i know i need to change things really soon so is hoping you could give me some advice via well i think this is a really interesting dilemma i'm really excited to talk to you so curious and you don't have to say if it's too personal but can you share with us if you're willing one or two the self destructive behaviors that you've identified you think definitely like with eating i notice if i have something sweet too early in the day like i'll have pancakes chocolate chips in them and then all day all i wanna sugar and i just eat horribly and i endorse all day and then i feel but i go the next morning and i'm like but i still want those pancakes chocolate chips sometimes i'm like well i know that triggers me but i can do this like i'm going to do it anyway then i'm going to beat it and then i might beat it you know maybe for a day or maybe for half a day and then it's just like i'm right back to where i am again sure so the other thing that caught me that you shared hannah was that you're not ready to let these behaviors go and for me as a coach one of the things that the standard for me the only people that i can work with and actually help our people that are committed to change some my thoughts for you to consider our this one if you're not willing to change and you're not willing to let things go you might want to spend your time in costa rica doing exactly what you're doing because fighting yourself is preventing you from just enjoying the time that you're there i don't know if you plan to be there indefinitely or if there's a time limit but one of the things if you don't want to change that change is not going to happen the second thing and thank you by the way for sharing what at least one of those behavior self destructive as you call them are it's clear and i know that you know this in your bones but sometimes it helps to hear it from an outside voice your biology you can't fight that what sugar does to us and to our brain into our motivation and your blood sugar going up and down and the ability to think clearly and to want to do anything it's really really challenging to override that on a consistent basis even if you were to take a day or two and let's say you didn't have those pancakes in the morning with the chocolate chips your body is still going to be reacting to the habit that you've been.
