"Five twenty two air on a Sunday morning changes chances James D. giving Germany right here all the fat eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six and to busy baseball day got the Yankees wrapping up a three game series going for a sweep against Colorado Rockies you got the message trying to get the four game split with San Francisco before they returned home from a shadow on the Padres than the pirates over the weekend but special bay up in Cooperstown New York as the first unanimous all free insulation will be inside the Cooperstown Mariano Rivera alongside Edgar Martinez former Yankee Mike Mussina and the late great Roy Halladay sold it a whole frame classroom twenty nineteen and as I said earlier what Rivera listen the greatest ever do it the best compliment I can give him as a guy who watched basically every page of his career peace of mind he gave you the ultimate peace of mind if you're a fan of the New York Yankees the Yankees had a lead you felt really really good you felt like the game was over and Rivera exemplary in a regular season took it to another level in the post season when you're already on the road one and when you consider how many appearances how many playoff games Mariana Rivera appear in the month of October two more cool stuff and what makes Mariano any great athlete for that matter so great is that you remember there are moments failure any stand out it's like the patriots when I don't want a Superbowl and they lose like they did to you live in the New York Giants so they lose then it falls in the Philadelphia Eagles your memory because they've been there time after time after time it's Michael Rivero you remember sandy Alomar you remember Louise Gonzalez you remember game four against the red Sox because you just weren't used to seeing it what made Rivera so great the fact that he could look at each of those moments of failure learn something bounce back and be just as good if not better after the fact not a lot of people have that and still had some of the great Mariana Vera Masina the family Roy Halladay enigma Martinez cell I'll be watching a live and that's with baseball gets it wrong I'm a DVR because they're gonna be games on Sunday I know they should they should have any event Cooper standard in day don't you think they should be scrapped the Sunday night game for the week and do the Cooperstown stuff in primetime I mean is that a good idea is that a good idea well maybe the way all the games do could present a one o'clock and everybody play three four in the afternoon because your baseball fan your Yankee friendly conflicted today I mean is the VRC can in the end the day watch bald put full nine is it a ranch the judge joins us without gel thank you for taking my call I know you're a Die Hard Miami Dolphins fan correct hi I was wondering yeah head coach when he was the softened coach we can even learn from his experience there not to make the same mistake that you made with the dolphins question gel his people skills and I'm talking about Adam gays when it comes to one two during one through fifty three throughout the roster they got to be better Adam gase hat is guys bottom line in Miami and if you wore one of these guys you're gonna be ostracized you were going to be a guy that he wanted to remove he was going to be able work we'll she's got a show me with the New York Jets not whether or not he can coach exes and ohs I know that he can I know he's capable I know he's a smart offense of mind those people skills gel that'll determine whether or not Adam gaze going to make a deal with the jets okay thank you very much I appreciate your opinion you have to appreciate the call happened I'll listen I watched every single game Adam gase coast with the Miami Dolphins the guy did a pretty good job when you consider the first year if you have files one games in December with Matt Moore the last United dolphins were any good and it was seven six still right on the doorstep said a post season with three against black was it a little bit with smoke and mirrors yeah should their record have been a lot worse probably but that's the coaching element right Adam gase could coach are his people skills going to get better they'll have to because they weren't good enough with the Miami Dolphins that's why is no longer the coach of the Miami Dolphins I said to Manhattan Alex is up next on a fat was a balance aged a first time and I guess I got to say from the beginning since I heard you top notch top shelf I appreciate what you're doing I've been listening to WFF over thirty years on forty four years old start with Steve summers what was that Sony and now I'm listening to you so I appreciate what you do quick thing with the Yankees arm what do you think about Baumgartner and I'm I'm always going on I'm listening to people in the last couple weeks about the Baumgartner Baumgartner trade I think we should get him he is a top notch guy in the playoffs we got the offers to back him up I don't think we need to send the guard I just we need a picture of got comfortable force in the playoffs well I would agree with that and to me bomb go under is the ideal fit he is the easy solution for the Yankees if of course the San Francisco Giants gonna put him out on the open market Alex you and I both know all the energies in a mess I'm not making a trade of somebody as high profile as those in the guard you know and I know it come on you're right surgery you're right you know I'll say it's forty four Ross's new Yorkers it's fun for us is Yankee met fans to envision what would be a good trade for the Yankees what would be a good trade for the Mets if you're a Mets listen cynical or hasn't been as dominant self this year let him go out and pitch really well over the final two months of the year and if you decide you want to move in a different direction doing the all season don't do it now worries value is not as high as it should be absolutely yeah presage are present today thanks I appreciate you you have a wonderful Sunday you have a wonderful week my man appreciate the call yeah I did a match we make a mistake a day chasing the guard at the end of the month of a okay and I'm totally fine with the Mets changing dynamic at eighteen because you know what they've tried the last three years has worked so I'm all for creative and innovative solutions see what I saw from Brody in his first year at all I gotta be honest my conference thank thank you an all time high they he's the manifested office day it said was story across joins us without Chris Hey what's going on today are you doing the basic things like Michael Curtis my pleasure which hang in there all right not that much you know home on big time that fan well we not Ackles and women experience I just want to close out two topics number one as far as the trade deadline goals for the Mets we think we need we did what do you think other teams are looking and looking and four and also with the Mets first I guess I mean they've been there were there were little hot for a little while you know big big yesterday you know today they came out today not yesterday all you're confusing me crazy talk of Friday Saturday no no it's okay that's what happens now when I get these drilled into my head that when I'm all right here right now it's Sunday and the day before Saturday casual Chris Hey dude for me it's still Saturday I was today I get it but to get back to your question before I will double check that thought again the Mets eight games on the five hundred I can see a situation where the Mets are adding on to this team the man to me should not give up guys like Zack Wheeler for his sake you giving them all but guys during the final years of the cat jags we're not gonna be here next year yeah you should be looking to get optimal value in return that's what I'm saying yep makes sense now my my my other question is what it what the next I mean you know you got the you got a summer program going on and you know get get the new guys they trying it out on it you know they try to do what they get a bill but I mean realistically the thing they're going to be a five hundred team or you are they gonna do I how do you think an excellent do this year honestly realistically a little better I don't think they're anywhere near five hundred to be on this case I think it probably need a lot of help yeah it's just the idea of points so many different young players then you bring in the guys who are on you know the wanted to two year deals to bring enjoys Randall I think you'll be more watchable I think you'll be more competitive all new board well the next going to be anywhere near the post season by March I would say now so one last question do you think are the Brooklyn nets are gonna do better the next as you read what I said and the actress that loses that's an easy call silent you go there prematurely on didn't mean to do so that was actually a mistake see sometimes actually wanted to say goodbye now is that windows is this is I want to say goodbye actually held my finger on the screen accidentally hit the drop on so I apologize for that now but it will not be compatible between the Brooklyn nets and any act mix Brooklyn nets right now I have a foundation Dore playoff team last year they're going to substitute carrier having for the Angelo Russell caravans a better player you will be a full year at a caris levert then when he Alan Diaz a joint they're gonna be forty five forty six forty seven win team but other than that stays here without Kevin Durant or any category of Milwaukee a Philadelphia or Boston for that matter but I think the nets so probably the fourth or fifth best Amy's the conference and yeah short term and long term is vastly superior to any act necks eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six we will come back alright Bob JJ after dark whatever's on your mind Yankees looking ahead to Sunday roster Wudi one thirty thirty five minutes trying to figure out the plan of action for the trade deadline and you think Mariana Rivero moment you think Mariano Rivera what comes to mind wrap it up right after this at farmers insurance we know the sound of a perfect hot air balloon landing and a less than.

"Know it's great to hear the house go into play and I mean it is just a what they what probably the greatest moment of my career always excited to listen to it did you ever think that junior had a chance to score on that play did you think you could you know I kneel junior curled Yunior radionics later in thanks for off the chart and it's almost like junior can anticipate a play like any nominee player could do that he had great instincts and if somebody could score it was during their so I I knew once the ball went into the order that you never had a chance and it'll be a great job I think my thought is that I think you know if the beta it was able to read that bad before make contact anticipated by Edgar Martinez remember the twenty nineteen class all hall of fame in for induction into Cooperstown a in his memoir Edgar an autobiography is now available to all of you Edgar Martinez joining us here on ESPN radio I'm Kevin winter did you at the time made to realize just how important that hit wives to the Seattle Mariners franchised now I did time I already know I mean we had a great game ninety five I thought this is the beginning also are great Ron for your organization and from here and I I felt like we had a team that we could have been in the playoffs you know or have a chance for years to come and I thought that was the beginning of a great Ron and I beg that I thought we were going to be in the World Series but he's selling so but I didn't I mean that that way that double became a big big four of them are in the organization no it certainly did and it became one of the most memorable of not moments of my childhood and you're right many of us who will watch baseball follow baseball we thought there would be more of those to come in bigger and better things there never was but one moment Edgar Weiss when Ken Griffey junior and his dad wind up playing together what was that like for you sitting back and watching yeah it was amazing and you know watching them interact doing product there were in the game and I mean even more incredible which I don't think will ever happen again you will get the when they went back to back home runs yeah and not only that thank you it looks like a similar omron Babeland update both land left center field it's almost identical I'm Ron Phillips it was incredible I I mean it's almost impossible due to the okay that so it was an amazing time for your near his dad and for all of us I watch it and what they're Hey guy mention you're headed to the hall of fame in your member of the class of twenty nineteen in that class with deal is the first unanimous player ever and that would be Mariano Rivera that's IT guy you hit almost six hundred against your how did you hear that much success when no one else in baseball really did you know I always felt like that I never felt comfortable giving a gift Mariano and I I remember thinking and don't try to do too much you know you throw hard in the mall malls away from you know your rights to make solid contact and don't try to pull and the way that approach I mean I didn't it wasn't like I hit a lot of run again but I was able to make contact in the not against them because we need you know he was fearless email is gonna work if there's any eating shy away from store to store I don't know probably looks like ninety percent of the time yeah I knew what was coming it does trying to control myself and not trying to that DiMaggio really healthy you get you know half the performance against them yet knowing what's coming Edgar and then still being able to do it especially when it was that guy throwing it on it it's it's what made the L. separated you from a lot of other people did your teammates ever ask for advice or did you ever give advice your teammates and had a hit and review tried to they ever say get away do it I'm trying to hit the ball well they know what was coming in guys you can they know a dominant yeah you know he Mariana look amazing engineer will what to do it all began there are and he's a Thurman nation and you you're listed really make them what it is today does you're not a monster hole Cramer the first one ever you got your speech ready how's it coming along done it's been a yeah I think gives all the minor Blake and yeah yes out the practice and be ready for it Egger congradulations really enjoyed spending some time with you again he's Edgar Martinez remember the twenty nineteen all of fame class headed to Cooperstown in his memoir Edgar it autobiography is out now everywhere and your great stuff appreciate it and graduations on the hall of fame induction thank you thank you thank you thank you that is my conversation with Edgar Martinez he's headed to Cooperstown this weekend along with Mariana Vera and might be seen on and also the late Roy Halladay those four will be conducted and we will have coverage this weekend right here on a Major League Baseball on ESPN radio coverage with you we are in a rain delay citizens bank park in Philadelphia where the Dodgers have a one nothing lead over the Phillies won out in the top of the third inning I want to give you a quick update I told you about Chris Patrick and that no no no and we thought a call okay not we I thought a call was gonna get overturned they called it in ouch patterns first baseman made the grab on a long time drop the ball not it had a run to the bank and tagged the runner he Ghanem I get a reply but im players look they look at that for about three minutes they call that are now so Chris Pratt a cat a no hitter three six Kris Patrick has a no hitter three seven but instead the eagle partridge they have a three nothing lead over the Miami Marlins this prospect jackets for station identification this is Major League Baseball ESPN radio and ESPN app uhhuh uhhuh would you would you in our studios Major League Baseball ESPN radio Dodgers have a one nothing lead over the Phillies rain delay top of the third inning at citizens park our citizens bank park Major League Baseball ESPN already brought you by navy federal credit union proudly serving armed forces to DO Dave veterans and their families for more than eighty years federally insured by and see you at eight Dodgers Phillies not the only game that is being held up by weather two night Washington Baltimore they had about an hour and a half rain delayed the start red Sox and blue jays delayed forty five minutes raising the Yankees were actually washed out in the Bronx tonight they're going to make it up as they double header tomorrow both teams are in the market to acquire a starting pitcher the trade deadline earlier tonight I spoke of the ESPN baseball insider buster only the first question I asked him is that in the past week we have seen the inter cash you're in Homer Bailey both get traded so what does this mean I mean for the big name pictures that are expected to get moved before the deadline yeah I can I think it's a reflection of what I'm hearing from executives are the really high asking prices and guides like Trevor Bauer the Indians and Marcus Stroman of the Toronto Blue Jays Madison Bumgarner and I think this was a case in in with the red Sox getting Kastner the Oakland Athletics getting Homer Bailey they're saying you know what we want to pay the high price but we do want to add something the Yankees are shooting higher you know they do at some point want to get one of the better starters but over the weekend I think it because of the high asking prices their conversation internally with they're basically saying look we got Luis Severino we're hoping comes back from from the injured list at some point maybe to play some role we get this kid David Garcia whose dominating in the minor leagues he can come up and play a role maybe we'll go with that but you know and I know with the Yankees history at some point they're probably going to be a team that lands a high and starting pitcher you know and I do think there's a chance it turns out to be Stroman you mention Trevor Bauer a minute ago what is the likelihood that he does get traded at a Cleveland yeah what a quandary for the Indians because let's face it you know two weeks ago it probably was a sure thing that power was going to be moved but they keep on chopping into the twins leading the American League central if you're the Indians one of your big concerns is knowing the Trevor Bauer is going to be free agent of all the two thousand twenty and not wanting him to walk away without getting equal value you have to trade in on that asset which is why over the last couple weeks start with executives other teams and they still believe that the Indians are gonna wind up moving dour but they also know what I am right after the all star game I was walking back from the ball park to the hotel in Cleveland and a fan stopped me and said what are the Indians going to do with our and Brad hand or closer before the deadline and I said I think they're going to trade Bauer and keep handy look to me and said boy if they trade tower the fan base is going to go not that may be true but we know the Indians to make very objective decision that day and you know to to make their decision based on objective analysis and I do think there's a good chance to gets mo yes P. N. baseball insider buster only joining us here on a baseball tonight Indians trying to catch the train foster the red Sox are trying to track down Natalie Tampa Bay but also obviously the Yankees here we go again David price informer stocks picture hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley who works at NASA in the that is a color analyst they are feuding again this kicked up a couple years ago and really derailed prices cesium Eckersley gave an interview in the bar and the Boston globe price got wind of it went on a rant today overall what does something like this due to the clubhouse for a team struggling all year trying to track down the a boy and it's why you know Alice Cora met with price today and he told reporters after that meeting that he was going to say what was said the meeting but I gotta believe Alex who has really super high regard for David party probably part of his message to him was let's get past this let's move on because we don't want the whole conversation and every David price start to you know become a conversation about you know is the distracted by the Eckersley thing Alex is it a point where the the red Sox now are sort of hanging on the range of the wild card race they've been signs that they're gathering momentum they restructured double pending innate that of all the coming back to be there closer probably next weekend and then you're right this flares up now in a time when Alex you just have like to have them focus completely on playing baseball and getting Chris sale right at the front of the rotation yeah red Sox are never really good timing things and here we go again buster only joining us here on baseball tonight on the baseball tonight podcast this week buster you have a feature you doing interviews with Alex Rodriguez he's talking about the players who are entering this year's hall of fame class in Cooperstown because he played with some of them Edgar Martinez Mike Mussina in Mariana Rivera in your conversations with a run what is something that that he told you or that he taught you really about those three players that maybe you didn't know I tell you what I was absolutely stunned by a story he told me about Mariano Rivera and I covered Rivera for four years I know well but he told me about how in the early innings of ball games if the Yankees weren't playing well Rivera who wouldn't go out to the bullpen into the sixth inning after preparing to page in during the early innings doing his work up in the clubhouse he said Rivera would chew out other players in the clubhouse like what are you.

"Why don't wanna be bald? Here. Kelly says, what would Ben one why wouldn't they want hair transplants? And I'm like, well, why do women get breast implants? Why do they have lip Villers? I mean, do you think you look better that way? So, okay. Go. Why do women get breast implants? Yeah. Well, I think it's necessary really I've never been one of those guys. I never I never understand the guys who just like women with the big fake balloons that just doesn't, I'd rather have somebody who looks natural, you know, and then that, but. So we're still on baby watch now. What date days overdue and supposed to be induced waiting for first grandbaby supposed to be induced yesterday morning with their mothers in labor active labor. So they put her off, so she there in this morning. I just got a funny texts though. This is New Hampshire. What the hell is this and says a picture of the hospital? The hospital glass drink sippy Cup is the world champion Boston. Red sox. They are they are mentioned Yankees fan, so they're outraged by this. So speaking of the Red Sox, we have new information on the hit job on big Papi. David Ortiz, a half dozen arrests. Now they have arrested up to six people so far. You know what they only got seventy eight hundred dollars to pull that job. I guess it's a lot of money in the Dominican, but split among six six co-conspirator she looks like looking for a seventh. And so, I guess what the woman who may be involved as denying any kind of a tryst with. He was involved with the drug lords, either wife or significant other either way. She's denying it because she's smart phone. That's the latest rumor. Yeah. And they said that I saw an Associated Press report regarding that Ortiz studiously avoided mixing shady characters alone force official on the condition. Anonymity says they're investigating whether or may have formed, some sort of relationship unwittingly with such person. So I don't know Mariano Rivera, the hall of fame soon. He's been voted into the hall of fame will be inducted in Cooperstown. Just a couple of weeks. He was the closer for the Yankees all those years. In a red sock fan, one of the Yankees that's truly beloved by red sock fans. He's gonna be at the track of the day after were there. It's opens early this year. So it opens opening day, the eleventh, so Rivera will be there on the twelfth, which is the Friday, they'll be ceremony the circle, and he'll be honored that day. And then also week later he'll be. Into in Cooperstown for his induction. Yeah. And I know you guys have some did you guys see him down in spring training? Were huge fans but we still are used to go to spring training every year in Tampa. And when the kids were little older kids were a little not Mike. It's not been yet. And that's back when they had the legend field was open to the public for access before the gay, or you could go and watch them do batting practice, and they would come over and talk to you the stands and they were very accessible. They've changed that in later years, but back around that time, he was one of the people who would come out and talk to the kids and then every night during spring training. They have a different player and sometimes people, you don't know really don't. Well, no wonder they have different player, you'll get there eight by ten one program and the entire stadium. We'll get there. Eight by ten everybody gets the by ten one of them signed, and we got the Mariana VERA, when that was signed. Unbelievable. Awesome. So we've, we've just been huge because he was tonight's guy kids. He's very friendly. And then we ended up getting the, the signed eight by ten and he's just been. In class act. Yeah. Anyway. Anything about that guy? Others in just a really great role model. Just a great guy. So yeah so it'll be it'll be at the track on on July twelfth Marian Rivera being honored by the New York Racing Association. Shocking Kelly eight forty.

"Bronx. So what else but? The radar for Vargas Tanaka. Now looking promising so I wonder what they will do if they beg out. Monday's game. I can't see double header on Tuesday. They have a mutual off that Wednesday. But with the keys wanna play on Wednesday. They're going to Chicago on Thursday. They may say to hell with that. We'll make it up either later in the year or you know, I think back and I've gone to a couple of these where they've done the chew stadium double header. I loved it. I went two thousand I'll never forget it. I went to Yankee Stadium, and it was rather apropos, because I'm driving. I said, I'm gonna drive. I'm going to stash my car. I'm gonna go to the Bronx come the queen's make David almost like this is like at the end the Mike and Chris, so he's giving you the salvo what's going on with the station. So I remember listening to that vividly as I'm driving on the BQ heading into queens. Then I got the Anki stadium felt Gano everything in sight. I mean that was a game. Don't hit three home runs. Two home runs hit a bomb into the bleachers. Well, we're sitting, and I was miserable had to get on the four train. Find the way to seven got there to see Sidney Ponson fades Martinez. So I went to both games of the two stadium Villeda didn't two thousand. That was if I'm not mistaken in two thousand two things happen. One Dwight Gooden pitched the first game. Yankees one was a FOX game. And I want to say Bobby Valentine got checked it very, very early in the game is the inefficiency play involving now my coworker over S why Todd have to ask them about that remember it. Well, but the night game if you remember two thousand that was when Roger Clements, Mike Piazza head. Hallway black moments. You remember exactly. When that happened, at least I do. Piazza would aid is launch every time he faced comments he had enough of that and fast forward a couple of months later of the Witter instances you'll ever see in a World Series game. Throw in that broken Piazza. And I'm a hundred fifty eight hundred sixty pounds. Somebody broke about me. I don't care if they're twice my size. I'm going to have some let's do it right. I couldn't believe the not Mike watching that live. Did you think that absolutely was going to go bonkers and go after the World Series game? I know you don't wanna get thrown out, but that is a broken back coming. That's very, very tough show that restraint I wouldn't be able to do it. I thought he was going to bet in that moment. He thought you know what if I go after him, they'll throw me out if not, they'll just throw this clan, but the Pires Clements? This is all fine. He pro I mean, I think, in the here, the moment, we all think that bad comes at us. We're going out after the guy who threw it, but pizza showed restraint and the baseball world, let him down. Listen Clemens was out of his mind. They did not do their jobs if that happens if anybody throws a back within one hundred feet of Derek Jeter. They're suspended for a month. My revisionist history, my friend. What a shame. And I know you will that Clemens the bat on purpose. There's still a quota Yankee fan. And Joe Tori who try to make it out like about about it there. You know he wasn't trying to throw it out. Okay with me because you will admit it for your team, so you're not apologize. Apologize. That is what happened. Absolutely. I can live with that twice. Of course he was trying to that. These memories that we love from the subway series, you love me, hate him the other enjoyed that trip down memory lane. That was like a random stream of consciousness radio. I can do this just Spitfire for days. I don't remember what to have for breakfast, today's ago, I can vividly remember what happened in two games of day-night subway series back in two thousand that's why I'm sticking to head said the Forida good tile Larry is up next elected. Elected to kind of Yankees quite the stair here. This goodness. What Larry and about you? I got the sense for the final three or four innings at game. There's no way in the world. The Yankees were going to win at all my you the in the radio land reliever down today know she didn't have hand the vailable just the. The way that game was going. I'm telling you at five nothing. Asking that is amazing. Good stuff or mascarpone cheese cream, cheese processing is a horse of a different. Oh, totally totally. And then the funnel cake fries. What is this sort of like a kettle corn? Is there a sweet savory thing going on? I'm assuming. Yeah. Okay. That sounds good cry. So I'm embarrassed to say, John, and maybe that this reflects where AM with with kids, I asked my friend who's got a five year old whether kid listens to baby shark, and this is the the number three trending thing. And that is that was a ridiculous question. Because. Kids who were five years old. That's way too old for kids who are like two or three. So I'm out of it. When my niece to see if my grand niece. Inducted into the national baseball hall of fame in the first unanimously voted player in history to be inducted into the hall of fame. Cool one front back is that more people have walked on the moon that have scored an earned run off of him in the postseason. That's pretty cool. Cool. Fact, I use the best best closer in the history of the sport and a class act, and it's never been done before Willie Mays. Babe Ruth Henry Aaron pick a player. None of them were unanimous that always be one or two or five voters that would lead them off the ballot in the first year of eligibility. Mariana Vera's first year of eligibility all four hundred and twenty-five members of the BBC w who vote for the hall of fame voted for my first time it's ever been done. I think it's going to be done next year when his former teammate jeeter is eligible cool. All right. And of course, number five is definitely what we were talking about. "Belittle reporters, he snorkels and Snyder also when he's asked a question. And it's a turn off some people say at times because the thing. Like most people are like some people in the media will say, well, you know, just look at the record a lot of the fans couldn't care less because they like, of course, these longs. He's winning. Yeah. If he's losing a whole, but the problem with that is, you know, you making twelve thirteen million dollars a year and party job is the deal with the media. This a way to answer a question without being played. Yeah. I mean, seriously, you can just answer it and say nothing like Tom Brady does Tom Brady exactly answers pretty much every question with a big smile on unless if you start to ask questions about Alex Guerrero, and then he will just right on. But yeah, it just does it like a politician would whereas Bill Belichick Darth Vader's. Great comparison. Dick Cheney kind of that miserable old guy who couldn't care less. What you think of him? Job to do the same thing is true with Bill Belichick, and that's why I think there's a lot of dislike for Bill Belichick because there's another franchise and professional sports. That's had a pretty similar run to the patriots. It's the San Antonio Spurs. They've won five championships over the last twenty years and their coach Gregg Popovich has some Bill Belichick in him. But he does a kind of with a wink and a nod and still with a good sense of humor more so than ballot check. So people kind of accept that. And. There's no hatred of the San Antonio Spurs. But then again football is our national pastime. It's the biggest sport in this country by far AFC championship game between the patriots and the chiefs drew nearly sixty million viewers. It is. Yeah. Which is the same as the three best rated World Series games combined. Wow questions. If footballs in trouble just look at those numbers. Yeah. And I mean, you have to I guess it's so interesting because certainly win the arguments in terms of watch ability or referee or video watching sorta come into play at sort of. It is interesting. How certainly. Lengthen game doesn't seem to be a problem. I don't think it's not like baseball baseball. That's all people talk about baseball the games of two long. I mean if you're playing nineteen innings and a World Series game. It's gonna take a long period of time. But we've seen Sunday night games between the Red Sox and the Yankees that are nine inning games. The the Red Sox winning two one and it's nearly four hours. That's a bit long and it's also pace of play. And that's the issue footballs. Made for TV it is absolutely perfect for TV because there's seven eight six eight seconds of action. Right. Yeah. Seconds of analysis and replays, and then you move. Do like a lot doesn't happen. Yeah. In baseball. Especially now baseball where it seems like nearly forty percent of the at bats. And in a home run a strikeout-to-walk, which really not that exciting. There's the potential for exciting plays. And and it's not as violent as it was before they try to take as much that out for the players safety. It's still very physical game because the athletes playing the NFL just, you know, they're freaks get rob gronkowski is six foot six two hundred sixty five pounds, and he's as hard as this wall, and he can move not quite like it used to. But he's still he's still a freak out there. So it's made for TV. And you're right because it's only once a week to all these gatherings. People will get together. Have a party during its also. We'll Willie take you down. Oh, he was cooking last what he's getting cards. You can't beat him. Well, I mean, when you're getting cards can't be, you know, but I. Oh, but I. What's wh-? What games? Do you guys play? You play little bit of hold them. But you play a lot of different games to right? It's like dealer's choice. No of Omaha seven five. Your name whoever wants to play a game not a lot of wild games. But you know, some. We play. Wild game. Anybody ever play follow the Queen? No. Introduced that one. That's a new one queens or wild going there. Oh, I'm sorry. The fall of the queen's did you guys have led game. If I if I was there and tied at the coach, it'd be like, oh this our new favorite game. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Hey, who did you think? It's gotta be pretty cool for you to see what Mitch and Chris are doing over there at Saint John's. It's it it. I I like watching Saint John's games fun to see them on the on the sidelines, and they're doing well this year are there guys at throughout the course of your coaching career. You thought would be good coaches at never became coaches. And guys, maybe you didn't think we're be interested in coaching that ended up being coaches. Usually the star players know don't necessarily make great. Yeah. Chris near he really got into all the details coaching. And of course, you needed help too. Because you know, he was a step slow. But so he took all that very seriously. I always thought I never thought he would be a head coach anywhere because usually those guys make money, you know, they don't want to revert back to a real job. You know, you have all those issues coaches out. But I was so proud of them. Yeah. I just I'm so happy. I saw was his rookie year. You know, he came out. Yes. Didn't have very good team. But he seemed to really be into it. So I was pretty excited to see him started off this year. Then have a great year, Don Nelson's journalists from Maui. Have you had a chance to see DeMarcus cousins as a warrior in his first couple of games? Got a report for Brian Wolfgramm. My my son lives in the bay area. And he's telling me that the warriors are playing like they used to the dominating the chance to see the big guys play. But boy, he just come a long time. But they really do. And. Usually, would you think about it? You got the best point guard. You got the best three guys. You got the best two guards. You're gotta such a unique power forward. Everybody wants you. You you you've got basically five of the best players in the league on the same team. It's just incredible. That I expect a repeat this year bed beside you got the one of the best coaches. It's overplayed this, you know, I really liked her a lot. It's interesting coach. I mean, I think this could be one of the if not the greatest starting five in the history of basketball when you look at it the way you put it. I mean, they just so many great players. Great passers. It's hard to it's hard to come up with another team some of Celtic team some of the Celtics Laker teams in the eighties. Had a lot of really really good players, man. One through five not sure if you could beat this for talent. Even the Celtics. They always had a door out there like me. Starter six bad or something, you know, that, you know, the hustle survey. But there's never been a team all five physicians covered like this team. Is there could there be any downfalls? I mean is there anything that could derail a team with as much talent? Well dollars. I guess starting to play a little bit years usually comes on about this time and then those dominant the playoffs. So we expect that, but I I don't really know much about your bench ever really watched the team that much. I would say that would be the only issue if you're installed. Oh, yeah. It's a good bench. Not a great bench. I mean loony who was starting as now he's more than adequate as a as a reserve five guard fives and fours. He's good in the pick and roll rebounds. Good offensive rebound McKinney is a guy that's gamer will get out there in any battles. And he can he can hit an open three. So another bench. I wouldn't say it's a strength. But what the hell are you gonna do? I mean, you can't have a damn great bench and a great starting five. I don't think. Substitute one guy decide exactly. You could play on that. Oh, thank you. I appreciate that. Talking to a former coach Don Nelson over in Hawaii get tell us about the whole in one day. Give us a recap. This is my second the first one I had was a beautiful shot. Agreed enrolled, you can see the whole thing. And see this wasn't just about this a bad shot. I take it. I'll take one of those. How often do you get out and play? I play all the time. Four times a week. I love golf, and what does it take you about two and a half three hours to finish around. Yes, that's incredible. Just two of us and play every day. So chordbuddy that I play we'd just allowed. Somebody's ahead of us were gel ended up with eighteen holes. But you never know which ones. You might play hole seventeen three times who knows. That is awesome. What? Let me ask you. We've got the they got the hall of fame inductions coming up for baseball today. Not the inductions, but they'll announce who who is going to be inducted into the into the hall of fame. What did that mean to you? When you found out you're going to be in the hall of fame. And what does it mean to you? Now, do you think about it much now? Or is it something you don't think about much, but when you do you're just proud of the accomplishment. Well, I think a lot of people are. So I was in the hall of fame way before I was because they used to get introduced the bench and stuff and they'd say hall of Famer, Don Nelson. You know, my issue was you know, as I never want a title as coach. You know games. But I have to wanna title that could have helped me up that I did really don't ever because of that. But that was real glad what I did. I saw it probably would eventually. But I thought maybe my son would have to trophy. Probably be dead. How much did it change anything before? And after I mean, do you think about it much now? No, no, not really. I mean, I know I go like I put in a couple of days of asked me to stand up for him. But other than that, you can't do that much your fame. So. Yeah. Last year that was great. Christopher reeve. Chris Mullin, Bob Lindner. A lot of support what I would've. Yeah. It's just it's just that. You just get to see a bunch of old guys who used to play in the played was I had the best time at the hall of fame. But what I put my shoes I've met so many guys that I played against him. Listen, it was great. I had a beer I took date salads, pant leg. One time. I was. Together for eight years. Real. I was gonna ask you when they introduced you as a hall of Famer before you're a hall of Famer. Did you correct him? No. Oh. The same thing. Do you think do you think Timmy's in again one day? Oh, yeah. Oh, you may take a little while. But he's gonna get individually. I truly believe. What a great player day was. Just back to basketball for just a second with with cousins. And he's got about thirty four games to acclimate himself. If he plays kind of up to potential and obviously with the achilles. It's an issue. But do you see anybody challenging them as anybody set up to at least give them a little bit of trouble or no? Oh, yeah. You gotta beat every dealer's good teams out there. Going to say, it's better. It's going to be a walk in the park. But I I look for him try to find a way just because he's just so talented. But no, they're going to have to be some good chances, of course about it. The best team was in a seven game series. But there are exceptions every now and then. Yeah. I think really just defensively you got to really try to make cousins and curry work as much as possible because the other three guys I mean, you can't go at Draymond. You can't go at K deal that often although occasionally Cam, but then clay same thing. I mean, you got to find a way to put them in situations where they gotta work every single time down the court. But the thing is was just so damn good offensively. You don't really know where to go other than leave dream on open. And when he's opened he's such a good passer. He can usually find somebody of guys are moving. Coziness Houston, three better. So roll. To the basket and pop covers. Unbelievable situation. Yeah. You can do a lot of fun things. That's for sure look playing basketball yet. So that's really great to see. And it's just a perfect time. You know, they stub their toe of your times earlier get through. Controversy here. Now. Hey, we gotta get get busy. And they're getting busy way the perfect timing for for cousins to come back, and and get in shape and be a big part of what they're doing. What would you say the most talented team? You coached was that maybe didn't achieve what you thought. It could have achieved. Well, my best teams were in Milwaukee. Pretty for those guys. Beat one year. We beat the Boston Celtics swept them. Philadelphia had whole whole whole years. The next year. We're in the playoffs. We beat Philadelphia. Let's aim dean and the Boston Celtics. Is that that we didn't play? Well, we didn't know the best team. But then we played Draper playoffs. That was a great team. That was those kind of the invention of the point four. It wasn't a Marcus Johnson. Yeah. And I had some big guys, but they weren't very good. So we want small. You know, we started a lot of stuff it in Milwaukee. Yeah. Marcus was people forgive Marcus was just a tremendous player, and he could handle the ball and shoot the ball and really really skilled. He was kind of one of those guys those a little bit before his time. Wasn't he? Well, he was very much like doc, Dr J. He didn't have the law alarms and all that stuff around the basket the dock yet. But you know, he was at the under par with them. I mean, you look at their careers when they were both at the top of their game. And the numbers are pretty close. You might you might get to your teams in their Milwaukee's leading the east and in the words. Obviously looking good. You might have the bucks versus the warriors. Would you have a quandary in your hands? Oh my God. That'd be hard for can you imagine that? I love their walkie. Jane? Kids love him. And they're doing just so well, I'm proud of them. To to Celtic. So they could end up. Yup. Play. Who would you pull for the Celtics play the warriors? Have a warrior right now. Come on. I didn't know you play you won championships with the Celtics. Your your number's up there. No, I know, but it's just different. Have a warrior, go west coast guy, come on. I gotta stay warm though. You remember when we were practice one time, we're shoot around. And we're at the Boston Garden shooting around. We looked at all the numbers in the in the rafters, and I was standing next to Mitch. And I looked up, and I said know that number is up there. And it was your number nineteen. He goes, no, I always in the building today goes, I have no idea who is going to tell you the Tim our coach right theory goes really, really. Yeah. Me ain't coach did you really play. Story is student of the game. Oh, man. That was great. I miss. I I I just I I don't know much about the new building I've been there a couple of times. But even though it had some dead spots, and they used to put the thick rope. Nets up there at the gardens of the Baldwin come to the hoop too quickly. So you couldn't run real fast. That must have been a great place to call home because it was fun to play in once a year. I know that are back you'd have our back. You know? So by get up about eight o'clock in the morning, turn off the heat. Here breath the next day. He put it on one hundred ten you know, so. Back to the other game. That's awesome. So what else is going on in Maui? You've got golf you got poker. Anything else going on? Just a bandage properties. Here, you know, invested by fortune here. So I got a lot of stuff on the water. We rent those out to people that likes to stay with us. And that's kind of my business. Got a little farm. Mountain grow some vegetables and some Nellie Kush lower stuff that I. And it's a good life. It's a good retirement life, joy does all the work. Stirrup points. She does all the little. Is that Nellie cook for retail sale or just for private use? No just prefer Everett settled sell it. All you're not going to go into the we'd business anytime soon. No, no. I don't wanna see you on cops. Do you gotta make sure it's organic. There's a lotta stuff they put chemicals on now. But we're strictly organic and just just for my own pleasure. Thank you. That's awesome. I'm sure willy willy doesn't partake. Does. He..

"And he's Scott Boris is really upset that this is client JD Martinez, wasn't part of the MVP. Final vote. Right. Yeah. I saw he said that JD Martinez signing was the most impactful signing in the history of baseball vide- Martinez signing. Yeah. He said that forces as he is he busy tweeting back and forth with Bill James. Most ridiculous because that's not the biggest. Standing in most impactful scientists in the history of the free agents that I got forward with free agent. Maybe vigorous agent was saying that kibbles the greatest closer in baseball. They're going to do that. Saying they don't even saying Moore because he knows his client's going to be a free agent basically next year. And how can you go with him because he's now in his early thirties. He's he's an okay outfielder. He's more of a D H, but say after say the Red Sox go another one he's the big private. They win the World Series. They go the World Series, whatever next year and another team wants to pay him thirty million dollars. Yeah. Do you? Do you match that? Yeah. I mean where does it end? Well, I mean, you paying them twenty five million now. One thousand nine hundred last year. So, but you also got some contracts coming off the books, right? You've got obviously Sandoval after next year comes off the books. Worsening Custodio at some point comes off the books after this year. Hanley Ramirez comes off the books. So there's some savings there. That's quite Scott Boris is willing to take any like does. He never gave. That's great. What you do is. You can't. Yeah. But he wasn't able to do that this time. And if JD Martinez does as well as other suitors. Well this year they will be probably from Scott Boras talking about his client JD Martinez. His leadership an impact on the team was extraordinary. I don't know of any player at any time in my career. That's had a greater impact on team apart from his performance with his leadership and influence in the locker room. And the unique information he conveyed I've got one I've got one right off the top of my head. And then he said, I don't know of any player that's had more of an impact than with JD did designate because she's talking about as a free agent to write like the most impactful free agent we've ever seen. Okay. Barry Bonds left the Pittsburgh Pirates after nine hundred ninety two when sign with the San Francisco Giants the pirates made the National League championship series in one thousand nine hundred eighty two they were a dumpster fire for the next fifteen years after bonds left even longer than that. He went to the giants. They want one hundred and three games. They improved by twenty five games when he showed up they had a ballpark built, basically. Because he went to San Francisco I'd say Barry Bonds is more impactful than Jay. What happened was he took the good steroids with them? Knows what JD Martinez is on took the good stuff. Pittsburgh wouldn't let them I'll go I'll go to one of your favorite players. Greg Maddux sign as a free agent brains. I think that was thirty impactful Scott Boris. I know what he's doing being. The truth. He's always told he's right now in contact with Bill J Craig kimbrel. Is that the best closer in baseball? Then we'll be not debatable. Depending on his agent agent to saying it is the IRA would indicate it's got some numbers that he not throw out there. Like mariana. Vera. Yeah. Trevor Hoffman backseat asleep from one thousand nine hundred eighty eight thousand nine hundred ninety four not as good not as good. Sorry. No. But that's what agents do is tell truth. Yes. No says guys going to get paid. And he will definitely would be. If he does not looking at all this money to the Red Sox are gonna have to. I gotta you gotta target guys. And we have to look at it and say these guys the Red Sox must bring back. They cannot afford to lose them. And then you gotta work your way backwards. Can we pay this guy now because we're gonna pay him? Can't let Mckee vets-go period gotta keep. So would you be surprised if they and I would say almost don't bring back of all the if you're going to have to spend that type of money or? Look, the trades animal rights. No, I think he's a core. Member of the team. Okay. Pay him twenty five million a year, maybe eight years making eight and two hundred apps in an Mookie are the two most important players, Benintendi, who you still have cost control. Jackie Bradley, jR. I think could be like a salary dump at some point. If he starts to make ten twelve million fourteen million a year for guys a great fielder in a streaky hitter. Maybe move on from him. But they've got nothing in the farm system who replaces these guys, that's what makes this difficult. Right. Yeah. That's why you have to bring him back. I mean, obviously, it's not even a question. Mookie means a superstar is a top five player in the in the league. You can't let that go and Zander again, I look at the position and how long the Red Sox to find stability that position. And how important it is. I can't see that. It would make any sense for them to trade him or or let him walk in free agency. If you're trading him, you better be getting back, some really really good prospects. And I still wouldn't do it because I don't like those types of traits. If you're the Boston Red Sox should be trying to take back Nora specimen prospects, step back Yankees did that. And that's how they reinvented themselves. And then it would go ahead and sign those players they traded back, and that always makes sense against the poll question of the day, if you could keep only one free agent who would it be evolved Kelly kimbrel or peers at John sap twenty-five right now, it is a landslide Nathan of all the fifty eight percent Joe Kelley twenty one percent Craig kimbrel. Twelve percent and nine percent for your World Series MVP Steve Pearce when we come back. We'll be joined by Luke, Vargas, talk media news. "Let's bring in LT to the show. It is great to have him on and by the way, you know what I'm thinking this morning when I'm driving to work and I'm seeing Jon Gruden Damian seeing Jon Gruden say, now we're going to move on and get draft picks in my takeaway is okay. Jon Gruden is sort of an emperor. Even Bella check has to answer. A craft Nick Sabin had to answer to the media Gruden now doesn't answer to anybody. He's got more power. The owner gave them a ten year contract. So even if the owner gave John crap, he'd be like Yomi one hundred million dollars. I think they've almost given Gruden too much power. That's what it feels like to me was about him. It's about him by him and you need players to win games and he's gonna find that out very quickly. And you know what happened to the days of drafting a God, developing a God to be the best guy a player in the National Football League. And then Pandey got what happened to those days. All of a sudden, you know, you switch coaches and you have no Dalal if that was the quarterback, if it was Derek Carr, Jon Gruden would have reached out to him immediately and say, new coach now come talk to me. This is your best player talking about how do you not reach out to him and say, hey, let's stop. Dala. What are the issues? How can I help you? We want you to be here for a long time. You don't even call the guy by the way the Rams with Aaron Donald were reportedly talking to his people or Aaron every day, like the Rams were like, we know it looks bad in the press, but apparently according to reports, I read this weekend. The Rams were in constant communication with Aaron, Donald. It sounds like Gruden was there was no communication, and I wonder how it plays in the locker room. Listen, I wouldn't pay every defensive player a lot of money. It's an offensive leak. I've always said for years and years. I wouldn't pay wide receivers too much money. It's a perimeter player. I like around the further you get from the football. I don't wanna pay guys, but once you get to quarterback right in the offense of line, right generally, NFL teams are looking for pass rushers. I mean Khalil Mack to me is a once in a decade guy. You'll never get another. I mean, I could say this the raiders will never have a pass rusher as talented as Khalil Mack for a decade ago made the all pro team in both positions. Like when I said effort been done or are you kidding me? And he stabilizes everything. Gonna defense, you close out games in the fourth quarter with pass rushers. We did it when my time with the chargers, even Montagne with digest. We have Pash Russia's that closed out games for us. And who else do they have? Can you? I can't answer that question. Who is the other Pash rusher Bruce Irvin Bruce Irvin. Okay. Okay. Okay. So he's gonna have to have a hell of a year. Okay. So you played with the chargers in a jet. Sam darnold was named starting quarterback for the jets and was we were talking amongst ourselves this morning, and I said this ladainian guys that have succeeded in New York. Think about this jeeter ally. Phil Simms, Aaron, judge, and I start naming Mariana. Vera? What. In a city that generates its own energy and excitement..

"What will you say big time I knew I was like, Mariana, VERA? Okay, got it. Yeah. So had a little football last night. Fame game preseason what I watch a little bit of it as much as I could. I look at Lamar Jackson, yeah. Well, I mean, you know, he's a rookie. He is a respect you expect for him. The light it up and be Levin of eleven. He had some. He had some moments. He was four, ten thirty three yards passing with a touchdown. Interception also had twenty five yards through the on the ground and he thought he did all right in his first game came out pretty good. You know, toward the star messing up a little bit. You know, we wasn't really, I wanna say my team, but you know, had miscommunication sometimes, but we all rookie. So we did pretty good. I feel we came out to vinegar. So, yeah, we do. Yeah, yeah, he did real well. No. I thought I thought he made a couple throws that he's gonna make adjustments on the one to the tiny and hers was a little behind him. But once the receiver could stick into the route and come out flat, Lamar will make the adjustment throwing late. You can get away with that in college. The interception was late, throw inside, not outside, so they got picked. He'll change that it'll happen. It me this is first game. No. I mean, you could imagine a jitters at the young man had he had jitters, you know, so. But Joe flacco was standing on the sideline snickering as they would call it laughing. So that caught a lot of people's attention did actually, you could see him and Archie three both chuckling bit when people try to say of sure. People try to say they were laughing at Lamar when they certainly could have just been having a conversation on the sidebar. I've gotten calling that situation before we're losing. I think we're getting smashed in New York on the sideline. And I was talking to Jeff Graham at the time. Veteran wide and in I'm standing on the sideline and I'm laughing and smiling in, you know, the New York newspaper. They went crazy. Immature look at even and we're over there talking about how we getting handled in just didn't. You know we was having a conversation flooding took it and ran with flacco, could've just been laughed. Like, dude. I've been there before. I remember what it's like being a rookie, a million different things, but it was fun to see football last night. You know, interesting to to to try to understand the new helmet rule. There's a couple of penalties that was toward that last night, but just overall, I just overall, it was good to see to leave actually talked about that yesterday. Rams practice which you were at by the way? Yes, attendance at around practice burning up a little heat, hot is a little. I've been to a few practice over last couple of weeks. It's hot man. Jared Goff looked pretty good. Yes, but his practice so, but a keep to leap said that actually he likes the new rule. They're just trying to keep the game safe trying to keep guys healthy. You always wanna make sure that you. You know, because you don't want to that helmet that helmet in next of if you're not tackling, right. You don't have that. You know, you drop that. Once you drop that here. I mean, you're in trouble. You gotta keep that thing straight up. You gotta hit what your face masks and drop them hips and sync into it. See, that's actually like there's all this controversy about whether or not the the refs are going to actually know how to call this and whether this is just going to turn into confusion. And I feel like if you go in looking to make form tackles, if you go in, actually looking to wrap up as opposed to looking like, you're trying to blow somebody up. It's not going to solve everything, but that's going to keep the refs off your back to some degree, but she got foot laws instinctive. All it is it can't. It's bang, bang plays guys don't intentionally Lee, what they helmets, at least most guys don't..
