"I said, we'll go to court, you figure it out, and he figured it out because the day you end that corn movie four days later, you come to me on my set. That's when I stay at the San you sit around. I'll tell you that story someday. But I asked director, why did you hold out for me so long? Why? And he said, well, and this is one of the greatest actors ever seen. He goes, they wanna meet it, do Robin Williams. And I said, I said riot, Robin Williams is perfect. He said. Yeah, but when I think Robin, I think he does hear voices in the corn. And I don't want that people. Don't believe you're hear voices. And that was a really interesting. That was that's a director. That makes a save. That's a Mariana Rivera. Sure it's a save. He saved his movie because of his belief in an idea. And, you know, not the quality of actor because Robin Williams will never of course, this is this guy, so special, but I but I was curious. I said, he's actually a bigger star than me. You know that, you know, whatever and he goes, I need some of that you don't think cares voices. And that would be you. I've never heard Robin Williams was considered for that role. That's unbelievable. And then you did it. And obviously we're, we're talking about it today. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It had gold dust on it. "Barria knows a unity everybody else's already made the jokes figuratively allow me to make literally I can't get four sports writers to agree on anything. And Marian Rivera got four hundred forty five to also we have to Serena shocker another collapse. Let's go round the one. That we agree on that the collapse. Yeah. You're the first person, and then that reaction, so awesome. It fascinating to me though. Because the idea of unanimous, you're either a hall of Famer or you're not if you're if you are unanimous shouldn't be more. It's also ridiculous that it's you people food decide this based on your ideas of greatness morals and mean looks you got over the years, but the prevailing opinion was if route Gary Williams, amaze, animus, no one would be that was thought for generations. And now Franken Sola one of your beloved New York Yankees is the first unanimous, Mariana Rivera. How does that sit with you? I think for a lot of the old time baseball players. They probably don't like it. Because like you said you look at Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron Willie Mays most recent Ken Griffey junior. And sure those guys should have been unanimous that doesn't mean that Marianna though shouldn't have been unanimous as well. I also like about it. It's a reliever because there's so many debates over the years. Well, you know, twenty thirty years ago reliever pitch two three innings, and here's Marianna just coming into get those final three outs as we know of the three. Most important port outs of the game. He deserved that. There should be other guys that a unanimous Brian. I believe he's the right person because he will carry this honour with great dignity, and we're all happy for him as a person. But I don't think he was the right player to become the first person to become unanimous as Frank Lu to there have been a minimum. And I mean, a minimum of fifty people maybe as many as seventy five, and we would have who you you could not look me in the eye and say that guy is in a hall of Famer there've been at least fifty people about who should have been in before him. And also, unlike Frank, I'm uncomfortable that it is reliever that it is a closer that auditing this honor because I don't think. Yeah. It makes me I went up to this. I was not happy to think he's going to be the guy if anybody's going to happen soon. It's going to be married. Thank you for your honesty about right? And this is interesting to me. I I preferred your what's going to be somebody a closer because the closing position is actually quite shady debatable. Shady debatable. Right said Cala showed you want to address that. I well. Yeah. I mean, I'm with Bob on that. Not that Rivera didn't. Deserve or anything like that? But the guy he Rivera beat and saves Trevor Hoffman. It took him for a few years just to get in. How can this guy? Now be the first unanimous player three years ago. Ken Griffey junior was three votes short that would have been at least a nice place to start. But, but at least it's finally over with now, and we don't have to deal with this about never having happened. I've always just wanted to go back in time and ask those those that first group of writers, what was it about babe? Ruth's game. You did. Own agreement there. Not make all KB. Now, you've heard it from Tim. And you heard it from Bob Ryan that reliever is not like every other player in baseball. Maybe a reliever should have been the first unanimous that you say what? Well, maybe not. But he was and you know, what he he has come to define that particular role, which is an incredibly important in baseball. I mean, we've just talked about it in the play offs recently. How important a play a relievers have become encloses in particular? And here's a guy who did it for so long. And so well with basically one pitch that cutter, which makes it even more mazing. And so now, you have a unanimous person into the hall of fame, and maybe this will clean it up going forward. Maybe next year. Derek jeeter will be unanimous tick for hall of fame. We've seemed to me to make purses to Frank sold as Frank you'd have the last word on Bob and Tim saying maybe a reliever shouldn't have been the first unanimous..

"Good because you imagine that the average hitter would have like eleven it's one hundred baskets Mariana there. But if you actually dig into this in nineteen ninety five. The first season that Edgar face Mariano Rivera. He went five for six with both of this runs. Mariana Rivera in nineteen ninety five. Yeah. Okay. He's a bad pitcher. And he was like a heading. That's exactly and so take that away. And all of a sudden Edgar is six for thirteen which is of course, still good. But then the next season he went to two with two doubles. And Mario the homers in ninety five to both the homers were ninety five. So from nineteen ninety seven through two thousand four the last time that at your face, Mariana Rivera. He went three for eight which is fine. But it's three eight with three strikeouts. And no extra base hit. So Edgar Martinez was really good and smart hundred era. That is plain is day. I see it right here. He homered the first time he ever faced him and you Martinez. I four plate appearances against Marian Rivera all in nineteen ninety-five home, run single walk home. Run did pretty good and Martinez though through the end of his career did much worse because guess what? Mario VERA phenomenal. So it was it was betting this back to everyone. If I ever see I I I've met your mom before. Now that was before I was on the podcast. But she was there when you were doing a book signing at that Staten Island game event. Right. Yeah. And I am glad that I met her before I knew this about her because I would not have been so polite. Okay. Continuing on Zach says, I was putting some baseball cards in sleeves and got to nineteen Ninety-one Braves outfielder Tommy Greg on this card was Greg fouling a bunt straight down in the dirt. Mike question is what would be the worst cover pick for a baseball card, Adam Lynn's baby powder? Fart comes to mind for me. Okay. Fouling bunt straight down pretty bad. Now. Okay. There's there's embarrassing. There's the I shouldn't say the word, but there's the there's the Ripken card that everybody knows embarrassing in its own way there. Now there you could take a game picture of someone. But then you just so happen to get a picture of him like getting hit in the back. But I guess with a pitch that would be pretty bad foul bunt that says a lot that's revealing. If the best hand, you could get was dude bunting that this might. I there must be like a group of worst possible pictures, but this is this one of the worst that I can think of right now one that comes to mind for me, maybe you've seen this is built Kotas nineteen ninety one fear which you can quickly Google to refresh your memory, and this one I think this is worse because in this pick they'll coda has just swung. Clearly, just just missed. Pitch that is now behind him. I don't know how this ends up being his baseball card. But right. There's nothing. I'm missing here. He just clearly missed the pitch, and that's what they chose. So built the coda the Kotas namesake that's not flattering pick. And when I just googled to see that. I saw that Bill pagodas nineteen Ninety-two upper deck card is him falling backwards and CLYDE ING with someone as he catches a pop up which is not very flattering either. But yet nineteen Ninety-one flare built a coda that is my pick. Yeah. Okay. That one is genuinely terrible in the only thing I can't figure out is whether it'd be worse have a picture of swinging missing or take that pop up and say that maybe the ball is below his glove has if he's has not pop up that might be more embarrassing because you're supposed to catch pop ups. But at least there you can say, well, the sun was in my eyes when you're swinging and missing like, I built the code must have at least like taken a pitch at some point. Right. There's got gotta be bad. You would think all right question from Bruno in Brazil, this is a question related to free agency. And the perception of economics in baseball. He says in general, there seems to be a perception shift in major sports compared to some decades ago when talking about finances player salaries and money, it seems today that many maybe most fans tend to side with.

"This day in history, the referee paper. Okay. October nineteenth, two thousand four game for the two thousand four AOL CS. Dave Roberts at first base, Mariana Rivera on the hill. Pinch-runner, Dave Roberts is going to come in for Boston. He can run picked up from the dodgers Miller still waiting. I first pitch roberts's going Passat his throw wrappers sake. Laverton great job who's a good purpose outed and throw on Roberts thirty eight or forty one and stolen bases. And then here comes after that the Los Angeles Dodgers potentially to break the hearts of so many people that let him so much. Yeah, I'm one of those guys World Series would get underway Tuesday in Boston times have been announced eight. Oh, nine. Start time for games one, two, three, and four eight fifteen which would be Sunday, October twenty eight th you know, the one beautiful thing about the football playoffs is the kids watch them and that the latest game that gets played. Are those Saturday walled card and division games that kick off at eight o'clock at night? That's it. Everything else is on at four thirty in the afternoon or one in the afternoon. Super Bowl kicks at six o'clock at night. I'm just wondering why, you know, I know that FOX pays a ton of money and they wanna put games in prime time, but how many kids you mean that that little boy that we saw last night, celebrating the Red Sox win in Houston, obviously up past his bedtime last night, but how many kids just, you know, are going to be passing out in the middle of the fourth or fifth inning of a World Series game of their beloved socks. And I understand that you know, you've gotta win prime time and ratings mean everything dollars are important, but if what does it matter if you've got a whole generation of people who are sleeping through your most important games and Red Sox games routinely go over four hours, they go forever. So some of these games are going to be ending. Eleven thirty at night. Waiter. So look, one of these games is on a Saturday. So why can't they start that game in the afternoon? Why can't I mean there was a two o'clock game here in Los Angeles just this past week. It was amazing. The beautiful day in LA. Why can't they start that game at four o'clock, five o'clock Milwaukee time on a Saturday. And and baseball would have to go head to head against college college football after regional college football coverage. Now, the Sunday game is going against the Sunday night football game coming up this week next party next week. I mean, see what that is. That's also Tober twenty eight Packers are out here playing the Rams. So, yeah, it's great. No, the the that's not week week, eight Sunday night. Football game is New Orleans at Minnesota who monster game. And how about this? Let me see. They're playing on Mondays off night. So. They're, they're, they're, they're breathing. Cyber leaf is New, England is at buffalo. So an actual patriot game would have been playing against the World Series. But no, they're not going against Monday night football. So it's gonna be New Orleans against Minnesota versus game five of the World Series. So they're willing to go head to head up against Sunday night football, but. I don't understand what's the point of a Saturday night World Series game. They wanna win in prime time. I guess. I don't know. I mean, just give give give the east coast a little bit of a break October's long of sports Ewing. Tell you that these, there's a lot. There's a lot of tired people in the Boston area right now, watching these Red Sox games. All right. Eight, four, four, two, four, rich number two. When we come back, can't wait to chat with John MacLean calling from Houston. Wonder what the hangover is right now in Houston with the Astros big Texas game coming up this week in Jacksonville. "Single 3point specials that came before him it's because the game has changed its how many threes you should its speed of the offense everything else and the rules baseball's not like that and i think that's why people care more about the baseball hall of fame than the other ones and then i think football i think football because the jackets because of you know canton because of the hall of fame game going on at the same time and because of the personalities that we know those to stand out to me as as as the ones people truly care about by the way trevor hoffman also in so that gives us four guys in dial up the hell's bells the it was a really interesting question coming into this only three times as the b b w a elective four players in a year and it's only elected five once and that was the first ever class so we're right a right on the edge of that trevor hoffman second mariana rivera on the all time stablised closer getting in it's a it's sort of shows you where we are now a i i feel like everybody's looking at it though wondering if the dam's gonna break it takes one guy from that era from from the steroid error it takes one guy to get in and whoever that certain guy is i feel like that's when everybody takes a big sigh of relief and then it just it's like the the well of the well water just comes falling that point the damage broken so we mentioned chipper jones latte guerrero jim told me traveler hoffman have been elected to the hall of fame class of twenty eighteen jones third baseman for the braves' for nineteen years at one time mvp world series champ eighttime allstar and as i mentioned earlier based on the public ballots he had a crazy high number of votes he was in for sure guerrero sixteen years as a right fielder indeed it d h one time mvp ninetime allstar eat times silver slugger played for the expos angels rangers and orioles told me 22 seasons six hundred twelve homers forty plus homers and five of six seasons play for six different teams i of course.

"Roaring fans and relievers who could not get outs remember when that daijro bullpen was unhittable remember when they had that twenty eight innings scoreless streak what happened to those dudes can lead janssen went from the new mariana rivera said the next ken giles he's given up six hits two home runs and three runs in his last three appearances scott was untouchable and now he's got a blown say they've anna loss in his last three outings and if they lose this series it's going to be a long long off season losing this series is going to leave a mark if they do because they had it in their grasp yes they're going up against a relentless team grinders masher is in racrers but the dodge have had their chances and they've got away from them not just because the bullpen but because moments like chris taylor and the third base coach miss communicating in a critical moment last night also because a game too which was in their grasp two games they had two games they lost that's gonna take a toll claimed kershaw said after the game quote i'm sure everybody's tired from shirt a reverse drew exhaustive for that one emotionally and physically truth i'm exhausted i've been watching this game on my couch i can't imagine what it's like to actually play in that game especially to play in that game and lose that game two playing games two and five and lose the way they did one gut punch after another they managed to get out the manage time now they have to get off the bat and they have to win starting with rich hill he's going to pitch their season or to keep the season alive and he has to.
