And so, I mean, you're expanding in the city, So that's great, too. Congratulations on that part. And, of course, And how has you know these past few months? We're gonna be very honest, have been I would say very different than what we're ever used to, you know, first withy pandemic that were kind of living through right with Kroehner virus. Koven, 19 and men with the looting. How is your business personally Have well, Have you been affected? Yes. So in the beginning, when we first found out that we would have to close our doors, it was pretty disappointing, but A state time, like okay, Well, it shouldn't last too long. But then in the blasting three months necklace, my mom and I kind of started looking at each other. Okay, So what are we going to do like this is not okay, so that when we started figuring out we needed You know, come up with some new innovative way for when we do come back. How are we going to make a really hard come back so that everybody will know about wind so that we can really recover from this because you know, all businesses are Our were suffering at the time. So we brainstorm And I know my mom will be able to go into further detail about all of the financial hardship that we experience during the whole pandemic and everything. Yes. Absolutely. We would love to hear from her as well. What can we, You know? What have you faced down? How we really up business really depend on tourism way always participated. Lollapalooza. The taste of Chicago. So we were really excited to open back up. So on May 31st we've alluded. That was just a really giant step backwards and how this money not only what we not ableto open up, we would have anticipated and the festival's not being there so You were in the time after diluting. It has became very devastating. Not just kill one, supposing whole entire city of Chicago. So at that point I just told you now know the community just was overwhelming responding. The kind is sending donations and it was just in my heart to pay it forward. So we decided how could we pay for the community? They have embraced us. So will we have to give that we have to show the love but a community and it's just not about killing. It's about everyone. Don't leave me in a former educator and Chanel and I was just kept talking along, you know, all along in the graduate, not being able to say.

"Maria Pappas is here and she is not known for somebody who's always is politically correct tell it like it is going to lay is and he's just he's holding up now this it one hundred and wait hold on here that you know it's like I tested resulting in like seven feet away here read this row can you read the full the bottom line he just handed me a piece of paper spell you know my tax bill went up forty percent year to year on the second half or whatever this is the second half I own a piece of paper I just gave you do you see what it says says one or thirty six thousand public employees working cook county well one hundred twenty seven thousand drive pensions no way and the amount of the pension in dept for anybody living in the Chicago's ninety two billion and the unfunded amount is sixty billion fifty billion and right here I've got I can I can show you if you were like live on TV you would see we live on TV but sixty billion dollars here is unfunded pension liability in the city of Chicago that's pretty scary so it's twenty five percent funded the city of Chicago so you so you everybody saying why are things going up there's two reasons it's gone up the trip in the university Chicago did an analysis saying that underserved neighborhoods were paying too much and wealthy neighbor herds hoods weren't paying enough so this recent tax bill is an indication that the formula got shifted so certain neighborhoods went up twenty percent in certain neighborhoods went down twenty percent why couldn't why couldn't it just certain neighborhoods if you want to make it equitable I don't want to present one of forty so I don't know how that's possible but what if if twenty twenty was the number why nights then make everybody even and then whatever whoever's paying whatever they were if you're you don't raise the taxes in those neighborhoods that were being over SS but raising taxes the ones are being under SS instead of dropping and then the other ones yet I don't know but I don't know what hell the university Chicago arrived at this formula the interesting for you to get them on and asking them why did why why in the end of the day the formula that you came up with drove me up to my one of four thousand drove me up twenty and someone else down twenty percent I mean you're gonna have to get these gurus in here who were in the study but in the mean time there is a whole lot that you can do about the bill that you just got so just give me a minute okay what can I do about this bill so so I don't want to pay you and I gonna pay you and what what is August first so so we're going to we're going to direct everyone listening to cook county treasure dot com okay it is now the eighteenth of July and we've already gotten five hundred and thirty three thousand people on the site so cook county treasure dot com is up in a hundred and twenty six languages you just go to the bottom punch your language if you're not getting this in English you can get it and holy yeah can you can get it whatever you want so you're in a just put in your address without saying nor self Easter western you are then going to see a picture of your house to verify that yes this is my home scroll down you're gonna see a four part grit that grit says twenty fifteen sixteen seventeen and eighteen which is this year eighteen is the sure we always pay a year later because the depression and then you're gonna see some boxes and it's gonna say homestead exemption senior exemption senior freeze those three boxes and then it's gonna say disabled disabled veterans those are exemptions so there are a lot of people in this town is forty five million in front of me about twenty six thousand seniors who did not get their exemption so on this bill which is the little yellow bell that you just got in the mail on on this bill that you just got in the mail yeah yeah I don't like that I don't either I was put on the bottom of the stack look at that later you see the okay says at the bottom here this first thing that a homeowners exemption but their senior they didn't get the senior exemption so if they didn't get it for four years it's two thousand dollars oh my god I think you can get the whole long cumulated yes as long as you own the home not for as low you can go back to twenty fifteen you contracting out for years so it's original active if you did miss it any and all it has forty five million dollars worth of people out there who missed this that we know of who are seniors so most of the seniors they've just never got they didn't know that they could get it or the other real culprits are sort of millennials I mean they sort of go through the closing and they run back to work in the reason their kids in there just in there that you don't take your details and all the stuff and all of a sudden they get this bill in there like whoa but they've never flight for their homestead exemption I had a problem I got to go look at it now because I didn't have to because I was I did that I'm not a millennial I'm somewhere in between the senior and the millennials and I and I did exactly that I went I ran back and I forgot to do the homestead set exact exemption I got it now but I don't know I might have missed out on the last couple should I be should I apply for that can you yeah I retroactive on I could I I can look it up right now and tell you if your the money well if you want to take a break and all.

"That for me what about meal most of the consumers out there that we do business with that listen to me on the radio and in tune in they're like well lot of them are going to get a lot more in their in their paychex over the next couple of months they're going to see an influx of of more income and that's can be good are they going to lose some if they live in a home with twelve thousand dollars he and above and in property taxes yeah they're going to lose that but they're going to pick up in other areas right it's nothing you can do a blatant rowdy than a sign of a cut equals out in until we get our first filing of taxes which were all in the process of getting ready to do you know the wto's llard are being dyshni just take effect this it does take effect right now and we don't know i prepaid my taxes on vacation we don't know if that's going to a ask his people were scrounging get money but other to pay early so they wouldn't get the fees but i mean you don't even know of that we don't know prepaid your taxes or at and i'll tell you what the the cook county treasure came a wgn she did a phenomenal job i pray pappas maria pappas what a what a great public service she opened up on such a he was iit she broke it down to your listeners 'cause i you know i listen all the time and i don't know who had iran but but she came on and she's like don't freak out were keeping it open the they went on to their website which is kind of ironic that a government website with very friendly userfriendly y'all mchenry you could pay online cook county they were get money up the wazoo they don't know what to do with it lake county got bombed with with with with tax revenue grew prepaids now now we don't know if it's going to go to court and it'll be determined if you pay your taxes.

"Thousand dollars and state and local and property taxes ten thousand dollars now let's talk about that a little bit right now in chicago i was watching a dirt county treasurer maria pappas the other night last night i think so far eighty seven thousand people have prepaid next year property taxes there is a problem with that the internal revenue service said you can't you you can't be done that next year property taxes if the they weren't assessed max gear if they were assess this year you may be okay you may be okay but they're dubbed the the verdict is still out on this whether it makes any sense for you to pre pipe property taxes because the internal revenue service's says that the ducks should deduction is only good for the year in which the property was assessed so if your property hasn't been assessed you're taking a chance of you prepaid it so that a lot of people don't know whether they're going to get a tax break or not they're they're trying to you know pipe repay their taxes this year so that when they file their tax returns they'll be able to take the full deduction four four including next year property taxes but in some cases some of the properties haven't been assessed i mean that's true in a number of locales not necessarily in annoying i don't know what the status is year but in some cases the property has met assess now a number of governors including chris christie an an an and who are republican a new jersey and mario cuomo and uh and um our own andrew cuomo i'm sorry and and the new york they have passed laws that allows you to do that they have passed laws in ebeling you two two prepay your property taxes i haven't seen bruce round or do that in illinois as a little late isn't it so the in so you're taking a chance.

"I think we have an argument that input county end in illinois your first payment a 55 percent is probably assessed in 2017 i'm not gonna air t it yes so it be yes i would say i think that you're assessed in 2017 at least the first half um if you go to the cook county website that maria pappas put up very nice website yes very easy to use you can go on click a button get a bill sent to you email and prepay your taxes as i understand that website will be up and running through the 31st at midnight so just before you go out from new year's eve you can go pet prepay your tax the problem gets to be is that not everybody should be preparing prepay in their taxes there's another system of tax you calculate your tax and regular tax system then you gotta go back and there is a system called alternative minimum tax and that's the killer because in alternative minimum tax and if you pay alternative minimum tax lot of people pay alternative minimum tax you do not yet state taxes as deduction so if you prepay eightyear amp altering moon tax you got no benefit of that prepayment now i'm not sure understood everything you said but and i'm trying anyway i mean that that yes complicated ammari you're on wgn thank you for calling thai good morning gentlemen i'm calling because i did grow to maria tampa his website in my first installment in now i believe due march 1st of two thousand eighteen we'll be thirty four hundred dollars for mike cook county property my tips is last year one itemised um both including my illinois state tax in my property tax came uh two i think about seven thousand dollars that i was able to deduct so i feel like and you know nothing's changed for me i didn't make another million dollars this year so kind of thinking you know is it to my benefit to go ahead and pay that thirty four hundred yudo though is excellent question uh because in europe were case you.

"In your address and up flies your property tax bill that you would have otherwise received in the mail in march three through answered once every two hundred some of the listeners have uh some of the question texted in from the three ones who is this limited to your primary residence only in this its remit is limited to your primary residence but commercial properties are pay okay i just got this one point six million dollar check from water tower so i would say i guess commercial people are paying as well and then from the seven seven three will the bill be downloadable after sunday i'm guessing that yes this be the way that i'm saying their i'm leaving it there if you don't want to deal with the united states postoffice and you don't want to get your mail you don't want to open up an envelope just pull up the bill download it mail it in pay online take it to a chase it is the maria pappas version of your boarding pass on an early part of the reason then part of the ways that you're being really proactive in this and you're going to inspire other people to do it to a two is i guess there's a number of people that didn't get just the nature of anything that they didn't get their male the didn't get the bills case so let's talk about that so this is astounding so what's astounding is that once a year if property taxes aren't paid by whoever it is that owns that piece of property the property goes to tax sale the tech sailed this year will be in may we have sixty five thousand pieces on that list but what's amazing about that twenty one thousand of the sixty five thousand did not get their male.
