The Marxist Environmental Movement Is Really a De-Growth Movement

"This as to expose what certain of its leading advocates have to say. There s a what is D Growth from an activist slogan to a social movement Leading D grow Thurs Frederico de Maria. Francoise Schneider. Fuck Asuka Lava! And Joan Martin Layer Sounds like a fiction on us. Right. That D growth was launched in the beginning of the 21st century is a project of voluntary societal shrinking of production and consumption. Aimed at social and ecological sustainability. It quickly became a slogan against economic growth and developed into a social movement. This is them. Unlike sustainable development, which is a concept based on false consensus, the growth does not aspire to be adopted as a common goal by the U N or anybody else. The idea of socially sustainable D growth are simply d growth. Was born as a proposal for radical change. So the contemporary context of neoliberal capitalism appears as a post political condition, meaning a political formation that forecloses the political prevents the politicization. Particular demand, So in other words, like most Marxists No halfway measures here. What do you mean sustainable growth. We are d growth, not just no growth. De growth. Pipelines and everything else. Within this context, D growth is an attempt to re politicized the debate a much needed socio ecological transformation. I'm quoting them. Affirming dissidents with the current world representations and search for alternative ones D grow challenges the idea of green growth or green economy, and the associated shouldn't belief And economic growth is a desirable path and political agendas.

"National wine and cheese mon- tell us some pairings that you would recommend for. Let's say for fourth of july picnics. Any any ideas for you. People are doing this thing now. Where they're doing this shark to re boards where they put together ryan of cheeses and meats and door vegetables fruits whatever they make shark to reward. So what types of cheese is if we have the cheeses. What types of line to repair with cheese is you know. What would you recommend. You know. I've been asked a lot through the years at the winery in and different questions. Come in on the blog show and lashing what wine to pair with what meat or wind. Power was what cheese and all that and it. A simple rule always liked adopt. Follow is don't let the wine overpower your cheese. And don't let the cheese overpower your wine. You tried to keep a balance on everything and that's really the key to it more than any this cheese ago. Great with this weiner's something if you have a balanced where you can take a bite the cheese and fills your mouth and you love the taste of an lingers being you take a sip of wine and instead of the cheese covering up that wind the wind then takes over and starts filling your mouth and you're getting a taste of that the after taste and then you can take more cheese and again takes prominence. So it's really a matter of as long as the. The wine is intrigued powerful. I don't think i would go something of big heavy red wine with Most any of these cheeseburgers. After coming out. I would try to stay light and fruity and there's a lot of good sweet wines i love verster meaner myself. I think that goes with a lot of the different cheeses.

Ultimate Summer Pasta Salad Recipe

"Is my recipe for penny pasta with corn shrimp and avocado. So you're going to take one and a half cups of penny pasta. Penne pasta works really well with this. You know pasta. There's lots of different shapes. Obviously but penny works really well with this one pound of fresh shrimp cleaned one half of an avocado one cup of fresh corn. No if you can't get fresh frozen we'll do but fresh is available now so check it out. And if you're anywhere near pennsylvania check out our delicious fresh pennsylvania corn three tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil one fresh lemon one clip of garlic parsley taste. So just about a small handful of fresh parsley. You're going to chop that up now. This ingredient is optional. A quarter cup of dry white wine. Salt to taste peppered its haste You're going to boil the water for the pasta when the water comes to a rolling boil at the pasta and cook it according to the directions on the box. I always tell everyone when you're buying dry pasta. Usually the the company that makes it knows exactly how many minutes that pasta should cook to be al dente. Of course you have to taste because not everyone's Electric ranges or gas ranges. Or whatever you using to cook this on are all the same so you know even though it gives you a time to cook the pasta. Make sure you taste the pasta before you take it out of the water but the pasta should be al dente. Cut the avocado into small cubes and place it in a dish. Of course you're going to appeal the avocado and take out the nut in the middle. Then you're going to cut it into small cubes. Place it in the dish. The lemon juice is squeezed. That on top of the avocado does not get brown. You're going to set that aside. Clean the shrimp plays two tablespoons of olive oil in a saute pan and Heat that then. You're going to place in the shrimp that has been puled in clean and saute for one minute. I'd in the white wine saute that for about four minutes you know not too long because shrimp can get rubbery and until all the liquid has just about evaporated. You're going to remove that from the heat and set that aside. Drain your pasta. By this time. The pasta should be done. Drain the pasta. Well at the pasta into the saute pan with shrimp ad in the avocado cubes. The fresh corn another tablespoon of olive oil. And you're going to toss and serve this immediately while it's still warm

"Used online dating profiles so I would recommend you're asking of. Truly for me, I would disclose a profile for me. It would be like. Let's let's weed out all those folks. We're going to have problems, but I also know that disclosing would open me up to somebody being like well. Hey, like how do you? How do you do this, you know can. Can you get into bed? We get asked questions like that a lot. We've comparing the disability community community. I know it's an imperfect comparison, but a lot of things do lineup and one thing I was. Was Thinking about is all of the progress that we've made as queer people. A lot of it happened because people around the world saw there was people in their own communities, who they liked and found that where queer and then change things you describing going to school it to me seemed like they were like walling off everybody with a disability in one room like people don't have the chance to like. Get No Maria or anybody else so to be clear. I was what they call mainstream. With a few exceptions, I participated in a standard classroom setting I received accommodations in that classroom. In there for only a few things was I n what we call a segregated setting and I think about this on a daily basis I am so incredibly lucky i. am someone for whom the system worked? And all too often. The system fails even with the mainstreaming. Someone who I knew in school might say to me Oh but Maria I. don't see you as disabled. And when I was in school when I was younger I would take that as a compliment, right and today. If somebody said that to me, I would be like. Like. I mean disability is a huge part of who I am I want you to see me as disabled and I think especially for young people growing up disabilities, even if their peers get a chance to know them, they are also learning disabilities stereotypes in able as at the same time you saying. We live in a society built for people without. Right even for yourself. Do you catch yourself having able thoughts? Oh, I, mean in the disability community we have a concept called internalized able as an ideal with it all the time I'll give you a specific example. I've already mentioned. You know how much time I spent learning how to walk and re learning how to walk. I know at thirty three. All ready like my body has actually been damaged. Because I've spent so much time doing this, it would be ultimately better for me to begin using a wheelchair more often than I do. But that decision is one that I struggle with and I know that the reason I struggle is because of journalism. When I do decide to start using a wheelchair more often than not, it will be a difficult conversation with my family. Potentially difficult conversation with my friends there have been so many people who've made tough decisions like that to have their families say like. Why would you do that when you can walk? And the answer is because when I walk I literally have to spend time worrying about the next time I'll get to sit down. And, so it would be a difficult conversation with family and friends, because they would prefer you not to be in a wheelchair, right? Well also because a lot of people..

"Me and I had the safety net right from the beginning of these amazing players who had my back but had I not had that I can definitely see myself walking into a casino sitting down thinking. Oh this is fun. I'm going to try to learn poker having a horrible experience walking out and saying never again right did a lot of the players you played with no that you were writing a boker doing a journalistic exploration of this at the beginning now. Nobody did The people who are introduced me to did so all of the high roller players like the people who are the best in the world knew from the beginning that I was writing a book because they started helping me. They started helping to coach me. They will they were excited. They wanted to make themselves available to be part of this journey and so they all now but then when I sat down on a random tournament no one knew who I was and it's not like I sat down and said hi I'm Maria I'm journalists to write about you right so so I didn't blow my cover and it took it took a while and it was actually very nice when no one recognized me. I didn't value my anonymity again in the hat and sunglasses and all that we see. No nope I don't wear anything. I actually think that and I don't encourage other people to do it. If someone asks me no should I I actually think that you give off more than you pick up. Because you're going to sometimes like players will only put their sunglasses on and certain moments and take them off. Yes or or the same thing with their hats. I think that it you just. You're much more prone the more accessories you have the more you might mess up and get something and also it's just much less comfortable. I think he you don't pick up as much if you're wearing sunglasses and I mean it's uncomfortable you don't you don't notice as much so..

"I don't know if it's a full on wrong color. Yeah! I think I probably wouldn't say anything if someone did have like a little bit of Mascara or a little bit of. Blush. That wasn't blended. I would definitely tell them that, but unless it was like a best friend, I think. I'm going staying out of someone's foundation choice because. They I don't know. Know. I had an experience once where I was at dinner with someone who I didn't know that well and like her hair. You know like some people like kind of flipped their hair to the side like run their hands through it and like flip. Amanda! What happened okay? Okay so anyway? She did that and like there was one hair that was sticking up. Oh, I thought you were GONNA. Say Like I had like like maple. Syrup Oh. No, Oh isn't like we needed to. There's something about Mary situation. But anyway, so there was just this one hair that was sticking up. Okay in there for like. I kept waiting for it to fix itself. and it didn't I was kind of like. I should say say something. So I? Just kind of like. I shouldn't have done this but I. Should I kind of reached over and. Patted Down Amanda, no. It was just like it. Guys like Oh, you have a little hair and I kind of like quickly like poked it and it went down. And then she was like. Oh, I, know my hair is always crazy. And then I was like Oh God. Why did I do that? Because you couldn't take it anymore, we'll be. Thinking like Oh, I had a hair sticking up. I'd want someone to just like. Tell me or pat down, but I should looking back at it I should've just let it work itself out. That's a really kind of a horrifying situation and the that you were staring at it. And then you see you were compelled to pat it down to poke it down as you said yeah, and so I think I did the wrong thing because I really don't think unless it's really close friend, you should. Probably you shouldn't really ever like touch someone. Right right. No, yeah, it's if it's something that can be fixed I, mean. But if it's if it's like someone I mean what Amanda what if like you're out with someone and they turn around and they've just got like a big ink stain all over their dress. But I told you about that right? The one time I had drawn on my own face on accident and I asked a girl in my class. Said is there income my face and she just said it's fine. I something like that or like got a bit of period stain those sorts of things the yes, those are accidents and what I think you get into risky territory is like a mismatch foundation because. I think if someone came up to me and said Hey. You know your foundation doesn't match your skin. I'd go like fuck off. Right right right although that is shocking when someone's foundation doesn't match their skin, yeah so. I think if it's your good friend. Yeah, of course like. Tell them, but if it's just an acquaintance or someone on the street, I think no right. Right. Because that's more of a A note like criticism because this is something that they're probably wearing this foundation every day. And some people a lot of money to get new foundation to it is and some people like like that look. I don't know who you're talking about. That would be more of a bronzed face or a highlighted face. You know they're not worried about the neck. Okay, so dear big ones! Hello Manda Maria I. Should you love the big ones? It gets in my Aereos the day. It appears in my feet. You. You make me think in laugh out loud. What more could a listener ask for? Here's my dilemma I live in an apartment complex and have been flying my American flag for my balcony for a couple of weeks now. My intention and flying it is for solidarity like we're all in this corona virus crisis together and we're GONNA. Get through it now. With all the protests. I'm seeing the US flag being used by people, I, deeply disagree with I. Don't Want My neighbors to get the wrong idea when they see my flag. Should I take the flag down? Even though it makes me happy to see it out there, or should I keep it up in risk? People thinking I'm supporting. The protesters okay so anyway. No, no, they're talking about the people that are pro, okay. This email was written when the right wing people were. GOING, they're not talking about. The black lives matter protesters. We're talking about the the white people who wanted to die for the economy. Because this was April April twenty first. This was written, but I'm sure this person is still dealing with this dilemma, because unfortunately, the American flag has been taken on by people who are like supporting the police and you know. That kind of stuff, and so, but I think the most American thing that's happening right now is are the people out there protesting and making real change, and so I think you should fly that flag and add another flag that will depending on that. Yeah. I'd another flag that says like. Fuck the police. Or like black lives matter or you know yeah yeah. You have George..

"Ari beat out and then Sometimes re rated out to to remember it or to try to get exactly what I'm trying to Say with a joke sometimes you get away from like. Oh why was even? Why was this interesting to me in the first place So E- it's it's slower. I I think I said I'm on the show that sometimes. I've taken less MED. So that I can kind of speed things up a little bit and get some which is not so great. That is not the greatest But I don't think I haven't done that in a few years and I'm Yeah I'll just now just a slower process a still have new bits of one. I'm excited about About Children's books and Richard. Scary busy town. Have you heard? Richard Gere is a ton. Of course you have. It's if you don't know it it's anthropomorphized animals And then they have little jobs a big scene. So I if you don't know how to read it says Baker next the cat and the cats wearing a An Apron and a puffy hat. Kerr Mix donuts by the way and just come on. Let's right let's right. Yeah but that you know. He's a Baker because steaming. You know whatever. He has steamy so beautiful And the great thing I love about those things they have a taxi drivers an and a and the COP is chasing him. But he's a mouse the mouse the there's no back story you know you don't have to hear the the the whole all the details behind it like the cat inherited the business actually and he's not. There's not as much passion. They're the recipes of the same but everything tastes different. Because I would like to think in that scene I would be a bear and it would say comedian right next to me and you know schoolhouse. Typeface and You know that was the comedian. Because I would have a big a bow tie and a flower that squirts in you. Don't nobody goes Oh. Is She any good. No of course it's the town community. She makes the whole town laugh. So yeah I'm still coming up with ideas but they think it's it's slower. Let's hear some more from my guest. Maria Bamford and her new special weaknesses. The brand which is on almost all platforms God yes almost all platforms in this clip. Maria is portraying to very near and dear to her persons who've come up in this conversation already Her soft spoken and very Christian mother and her sweet and somewhat timid husband Scott and Her MOM is trying to talk. Scott and Maria through some issues. The first way she'll here is is the is the MOM now. Scott do you have any concerns Yeah Murray I love you. I love that you put a bench on the front lawn but now there is a man living there which is fine. We live in Los Angeles But now when you leave your keys in the front door overnight over and over and over again feel terrified is just the fit. Maybe I could ask the guy on the bench honey now okay. Shut DOWN. Shut it down. I know that you really did put a bench in front of you us and it brought all sorts of wonderful it. I read in a study from another lund's that if you provide a place to sit it builds community so provided it and it did People see it came to the babies and Young lovers would have smoke On on the bench and then also A man lived there for a certain amount of time. There's some light prostitution happening Between it in a in a white van parked our house Yes so all. All sorts of things came to the bench in and now we live in a different neighborhood and we have just put out a new bench so very excited to see what's going to come. Congratulations not just to you. But to the people of Alabama California come have a seat. You have done a lot of material about your parents over the years. You also did an entire standup special. Where the audience was just. Your parents are your parents proud of your career. Well interesting you should ask that because I did I got right up in for this special in the New York Times and in the New Yorker and so I I kinda waited for my mom you know. GonNa call me you know. And she did and she told me everything that she ate that day. There was this. We went out to this Cuban place in his wonderful fish. I I could live on beans and rice. I really could. I could live on beans and rice beans in rice and I had to prompt her. I was just in the New York. Giants is that Oh I know I saw that. That's so great. I had to prompt her. Mom Can you please? I'm proud of you. Oh Oh I didn't think Oh. I didn't think you'd need that. All right. I honey. I am very proud of you. I am very very proud of you and now every time. She calls me the past few times. She says I am proud of you. I'm proud of you which I don't know I mean I think it's just as meaningful even if I've given her a script and allied reading. It felt sincere all no she no. They're very. They're extremely supportive They have me on Google. How much more supportive can you be? Are you proud of your career? Maria? Yes I'm very proud. Oh my God I'm done Is it? I'm I'm very yes. I'm very proud of myself. Yeah because it is it is about hanging hanging in there and And also I. I also want to acknowledge that had been an extraordinarily privileged I've given a full ride scholarship through life the age of twenty four by by my parents. And so yeah though. I've had some setbacks For the most part it's been gravy so Yeah I'm proud of myself. Because he still got a show up That's one thing everybody has some power to do is to to show up on whatever where you can so I have done that for the most part if I can't show up I can skype skype in if he can Maria. I'm always glad to see you. I love Janie special and I love your show and I thank you for coming in doing this with me. Thank you so much. I am so grateful to be on the show. Called weakness is the brand you can rent or buy it online. Pretty much anywhere she is also the host of a new talk. Show on what's your ailment. Maria talks somewhat seriously about mental illness with folks. Comedy like Rachel Bloom Baron Vaughn and Tom Arnold. It's streaming now on topic. Let's get back to our conversation You've been married for a few years now to your wonderful husband. Scott yes he comes up in the special a lot. Yes how has being married after many years of very fitful romantic life? How how has it changed your life? it's been spectacular. I can only I definitely didn't have the willingness to go through any Discomfort of intimacy before Even so much as far as Friendships and my family moved away from my family of two thousand miles. So you don't I don't have to have those kind of intense interactions with anybody on the regular basis and stand up is certainly controlled way of connecting with people so Yeah It's been wonderful and neither of us were very good at it. He also had not had Any long-term Released observer been married before and so we were both like come on. Let's do this went to the gunman's I don't know if you've ever heard of the gunman's they They have a theory. The called the love lab where they've done scientific studies of couples for over thirty thirty years. doing a blood pressure monitoring and other things over the course of seven to seventy two hour weekend to see. What are the things that cause people to divorce and so we went to go see Went to one of their conferences and You don't what the four signs of the apocalypse in a relationship. Our criticism Let let's let's go. Oh I have a sailboat criticism. That's a stupid sailboat. Contempt you sailboats. Defensiveness what's the vote and stonewalling? You say absolutely nothing. That's the silent treatment which I have a friend who does that she. That's her way of expressing. Anger is a is a silent treatment and and just to have more willingness to try to understand someone else's point of view and to see my own Foibles anyways. It's it's been delightful and to let let myself be loved by by somebody I think is is is new And to take the risk you know because I mean even though you love somebody there is always that sense of like what if what if you you know. People are saying those like magazines like I never knew like. I guess I can happen to anybody but I was like well. If finally out something later I'll just feel like God. That's amazing. He kept from for decades. There were bodies in the backyard. But I of course. I don't think that'd my husband I'd just just to. I think it's good to to risk in in in life. I'm grateful grateful that I that we have been together. It's been wonderful and and that's also part of the reason I don't want to do shows at night is because we're at home snuggling. Snuggle bring him out to the show. Yodel you will you do your staff and he does do stand up. He does it in support of he. He's started doing it about Three years in because he had fear of public speech speaking. And I'm just like Oh my God do standup. Nobody's paying attention and And he so he's done. He's really funny. He's really good and he's let me use a lot of bits which is very kind. But he's a painter. He's a painter. Scott more of cassidy. Scott Scott Marvel Cassidy Dot com one of the things that you describe in. I guess it was in a in an episode of what's her ailment is that your thoughts have slowed a little. Yes for sure. You're such a careful writer. I mean I think of all the of all the stand ups that I know which are you know. Many I think you're the the most careful and Maybe one of the best writers event of stand up and like your. Your diction is always very specific. Yes oh I love words I love them so much and so I wanna use what I think are the right words. Sometimes I don't always look it up and then I use a word that's like the word that I mean to us but So the question. The question was how does your mind being a little slower. Effect your process of making stand up. Because you're you're a comic who you really write your jokes and like you write them in paragraph form. It I mean right all right. Beats.

"As we don't have such a big budget. We look out for couch surfing. Maybe you've heard of couch surfing. Maybe you'd even tried it. It's a website in an APP for travelers. That really relies on the kindness of strangers. It allows you to connect with people and stay in their homes all over the world and it's free so here's how it works. I you have to set up a profile and then you can start looking for a host wherever you WANNA go. These hosts also have their own profiles so they have room and both sides agree. Then you've found your couch but it's more than just a free place to stay. Here's how couch surfing describes itself in an online ad couch surfing as a site. Just the website I I refer to it as a community. The reason people like couch surfing so much is because you get to hang out with the local. The whole idea sounds very cool to us. We want to go to venison. We try to find the couch in Venice. But it's August and it's really hard than you could also make a public request so basically would a public request is. It's a last ditch effort to find a place to say it's like raising your hand and saying can someone anyone put me up for the night and then we receive a reply from a person. He's called Leonardo Here's the message. Maria got back. It's read by an actor. Hi there my name. Is Leonardo Mind You? It would be a pleasure to host and or meet you is. You can see from the positive references left from my guests. I'm a nice guy that enjoys the company of others. He writes as big ensor with a lot of information about himself. He's house about the city. I love to eat good Italian food and drink a glass of Italian wine with my guests. If possible if you're interested in the nightlife bow device full of university students a young people that like to drink and dance. We check his profile and he says he's a policeman. He has big Cher's dressed as a policeman. He is very complete profile like the most complete we saw until then and he also has a lot of reviews so we were very happy because we thought this is perfect. A good time is guaranteed. Whatever your liking Smiley face thank you whom batch of from above Anthony Dahlia. They accepted the invitation right away. He had tons of positive reviews which immediately made them feel comfortable. They were happy to find a place to stay even if it was a little further out it wasn't in Venice. It was in Palo but it was really closed by train and we never even heard about Pablo before but then we looked up some pictures online and it also looked nice so it we were very happy to stay with him by the time they're train pulled into the station. Maria and her friends were excited to see PADOA and to meet their host. Leonardo he takes this and he says. Meet me at this ice cream shop. It's really close to my place. We go there. We have to wait a little bit for him so we have very nice Italian ice cream. Meanwhile he arrives in his car and he comes out of the car dressed as a cop. That's intimidating but it was also good thank made us feel safe. He looks normal say except he was wearing some contacts in his eyes. Kentucky clinch is and. They didn't seem natural. They were weird caller between light brown yellow.

"I would actually target because target so comforting and then COSC- Billy Ocean. They're still paying no I. That's why I can talk so positively about it because now I'm just a consumer myself. I know go to target. I do like it always comfortable. An excellent always listen to messy target. Sometimes you get hit a messy target and you're like oh no everything's gone wrong Yeah Yeah I don't mind Ross. I like to dig. But yeah you want a Target forget you don't expect that he'll go on to have a pleasant visual full body experience. I know where things are. You like a city target like a like a like it gets a reduced like a minimalist. It's just just the bear like we've got to light bulbs and three t shirts. I haven't been in as many as those. I'm sure I would enjoy them. Yeah I'm grateful. I don't work for them because I don't have to show from professionally because I think they have. Things made overseas that where people were paid and the they have a union busting here in the US of People were just keep thinking of them as the less problematic Walmart. Nobody they just have a great. Advertising can basically the same advertising the same as same as Walmart and Walmart in fact is becoming more like them because now they advertise on public radio Walmart does interesting Google interesting fats..
