"Crime story impeachment which come on september seventh if i if i run my dates correctly. Here's my big takeaway from the abundance of trailers at they have released for this in the last three weeks. Really like quite a push. So and i think i'm starting to get the feeling like this is going to be an american story o. Oj simpson moment. Where i think we're going to revisit a lot of the stuff from the clinton impeachment monica etc. But i have a question about all these trailers. We still haven't gotten a significant amount of time with clive owen. His bill clinton which leads me to believe. They're either sitting on marlon brando in the godfather level performance or marlon brando. Doctor moreau level performance. Like it's it's going to be one or the other that is definitely a take and you may right. I choose to think about it slightly differently. Which is they have two things one. It's very very hard. I mean presidential performances especially in this era are almost uniformly imitations right and it's distracting to be like oath. He's just like bill clinton. Yeah whatever Falco place. Hillary clinton like i think it was a smart move to minimize them in the trailer because immediately becomes about. Wow clive owen. Doing a great job being bill clinton sure in it's distracting from the show. They wanna tell. I think the second piece of it is the from my understanding of it. The reason to tell the story about something that you know obviously isn't fresh and a lot of people's minds but i for people of our age our generation certainly is. Is it for. Sarah paulson to win more awards. That's going to happen. But i think it's more to tell the story of the monica lewinsky and linda tripp and people who were actually the prime movers of this. That shook the firmament that the much larger figures were resting

"Is so much being said right now about the incoming administrations communication seem to also celebrate. Especially on this podcast. Is that two of the seven names that been announced so far are queer. Airspeed towbar and corinne jean pierre. We're going to have to queer women of color in the white house and leadership positions acting as the face and voice of our government. It's wild that think about and for that reason. I wanted to bring you this interview. That i did with corinne that originally aired on a luminary app. We spoke almost exactly a year ago. When corinn's book moving forward was first published. The message of book is that all of us no matter what you might think of as a typical background or story for politician. All of us have a police in politics. If corinne jean-pierre a queer woman of color who immigrated to the us as a kid can make it in politics. She says so can you. When we spoke corinne was also appearing as a political analyst on nbc and msnbc. So you'll hear talk about that. As well as what she learned working for a wide wide wide array of politicians including john edwards anthony weiner and of course resident barack obama from the advocate magazine and partnership glad. I'm jeffrey masters. And this is lgbtq. And here's shop. Thank you for having me. Of course excited thank you. Let's jump in right that your story is not the typical political story. You're immigrant you're a woman or one of color you're a and that is not what we typically see in politics. Yeah and yet. I think it's easy to soon. That's changing with high profile examples. Like alexandria ocasio cortez omar and yet. Those are very much outliers right. Yes nor it is the norm and and like you were saying. I walk in so many different communities if you will like i present so many different communities and that was one of the parts of writing this book i wanted to. I think people get really afraid when a here politics and getting into politics or getting involved and so that's one part of it and they think the other part of it is that people always ask me even young people. They ask me all the time. I teach at columbia university. So i have young people taking my class yearly. And they say how did you get here. How did you get into the white house. Like how did you work in politics and get a different presidentials. So the purpose of the book is also to show. There's not one path and also as a person of color gay person a woman an immigrant. I wanted to show people who are all. Those things are one of those things like. Hey you know she did it. I can do it too. So i lay that out in a very detailed way. You know as an immigrant. I grew up being told. Oh you're going to be one of those three professions doctor lawyer or engineer. And that's i think anybody who's listening in. I grew up in an immigrant. Family could understand that and that didn't work out. I talk about that in the book. And then i talk about. I didn't get into politics until my mid twenties. And so but you're right. there's representation matters and there's not a lot of representation. Even now there are like aol see as you just mentioned others kind of outliers. It's still a very small percentage of women of color of people from different identities that are more diverse that's in the political arena. So the hope is that can encourage inspire people to not be afraid of the word politics <hes>. And to just get involved because the way you make change is if you get involved you're yourself and you know watching tv even though you don't mention being gay every time it is a part. It is no secret nearly no. I've been out for a long long time. Yeah and i think that's something that is easy to see about you. Bring that up because i. I think there's a tension between you bring. Being gay does not need to come up in every conversations right. Yeah and yet. I think it so powerful to know that there is escape on tv. Like i also want you to for. He never really. I'm so glad you brought that up. Because i think about that sometimes because i'm like i'm out. It's not hard to know that. I'm that i'm out. I talk about my daughter. I talk about my partner in interviews. And it's out there but i don't lead with that you know it's like it's part of my multiple identities. I have multiple identities at so. It's a very interesting kind of way to be in the space and it's actually kind of funny when people are like. I didn't know you were gay. And i'm like how do you not know i'm gay. I've been out for a long time the like. Wow and so it's just. It's funny. But i am aware of it. I am conscious of it. I want to respect all of said all of the communities i represent in. Were you to bring it up every episode out. Say like oh my god. She brings every time he was like. What's wrong receiver. Don't bring up at like one like she didn't bring yeah. It's like you. Yeah yeah it's over. I don't know how people like majority of people feel about it. But i i just want to lead with my experience and kind of my smart. There's a reason at this table and everything else just complements me.

Bryan Cranston on new TV drama "Your Honor"

"Bryan cranston. The star of amc's breaking bad returns to series television for the first time since that show left. The air in a new showtime miniseries called your honor which begins on sunday. Cranston plays a new orleans. Judge whose life is torn apart after his teenage son gets into some sudden and very serious trouble are tv critic. David be cooley. Has this review bryan. Cranston had played the goofy dad on the fox sitcom malcolm in the middle then. Redefined himself brilliantly as walter white. The meek high school chemistry teacher in breaking bad. What made walter break. Bad was the sudden news that he had contracted terminal cancer leading to a series of increasingly momentous decisions. In the new showtime miniseries. Your honor cranston returns to series tv playing another character who gets some sudden life changing news. This time he plays. Michael desio a compassionate judge in new orleans and a single parent raising his teenage son after the death of his wife a year ago in an unexpected tragedy. On the day of that saturday anniversary the sun adam played by hunter. Doohan experiences an unexpected tragedy of his own after leaving flowers at the convenience store where his mother was an innocent bystander. Shot by robbers has an asthma attack while driving away he searches for his inhaler on the passenger seat and as he takes his eyes off the road he slams into a motorcycle driven by another teenager. Adam after returning home tells his father what happened next. Where did this happen. Okay okay so would be the new hospital. Then the emeralds. Taken to what in new orleans and i don't know well the police must have sex. Overweight drove away before the tried to can give you called nine hundred time to try to at least yes or no please. I could breathe okay. I got you guys. This ten part series begins like the. Hbo mini series the night of following a young man. He descends deeper and deeper into a horrifying spiral of accidents and consequences that engrossing 2016 mini series was created by peter moffett who adapted it from his own british series. Moffitt is the adapter of your honor as well but this time he's not working from his own story showtimes. Your honor is his new version of a twenty seventeen. Israeli drama called ca- votto which has the same basic plot and is available of sample on youtube but for this adaptation for the united states. The location is changed in new orleans and other elements are given an american spin from police brutality. To local criminal activity one thing stays the same though. And it's thing that makes your honor so gripping from the start the father doing the right thing as both a judge and a citizen escorts his son to the police station to turn them in with an explanation but when he gets there he sees the father of the victim and recognizes him as a powerful local mob boss. All of a sudden the judge realizes that to turn his son in would be to signed his death warrant so from that point on. What is the right thing to do. And how many people does he have to enlist or deceive to do it. There's a certain flavor of breaking bad this because we're essentially put in the position of sympathizing with and rooting for a person who's breaking and avoiding the law but that's not a complaint because breaking bad may be the best tv drama series ever made and bryan cranston once again crafts a marvelously nuanced and empathic performance. And in your honor. He's not alone. The executive producers in addition to moffitt in cranston include robert and michelle king the talented creators of the good wife. So both the characters and the legal twists are fully drawn hundred. Doohan as the judge's son has the same relatable acting skills cranston and needs to since he carries most of the show's opening our and other riveting characters and actors abound michael stool barred from. Tv's fargo plays. The mob boss and hope davis plays his wife as very fierce and involved sort of carmela soprano to his tony and while margo martindale from justified in. The americans doesn't show up as the judges mother-in-law until episode four. Wow is she worth the wait. The writers on your honor include moffitt himself and the directors include clark johnson. An actor and director way back on homicide life on the street and edward. Berger who did a marvelous job directing another showtime miniseries patrick metros showtime provided only four of the ten episodes of your honoring advance. Each one. both impressed and surprised me and made me hungry to see the next cranston's michael ziada is smart enough to think on his feet and almost every scene requires him to do just that to avoid exposure endanger and to protect his only son whatever the repercussions to others the series title. Your honor isn't just the judge's work title. it's also at the center of the show. When it comes to your family would you do to save them. And what effect will that have upon your moral code your relationships with others and your honor

"Fucking loved this movie. I'm a straight up top. Were the fuck out of it The cast opposite was fantastic. Even if some of them were underutilized. Margo martindale margo martindale jerry utilize. I love her right. It's amazing yeah. I mean it was funny. It was super sweet. It was really touching and there was some real dark stuff also in it but it really really well balanced That's one thing. I i really remember like thought about while i was watching. It was just how a well-balanced the super deep stuff was with these moments. These lighthearted moments and these funny bits and that exploration of sexuality in the seventies was really fascinating. I love wally. Thank you thank you stand out. He was so good. I loved him the depth of his character from you being very supportive and funny but then also going through some real shit on his own and I think like steve's on obviously was underutilized but at the story wasn't about his character. It was about uncle frank so like the fact that they were able to get all these big actors to play such smaller parts. I think really spoke to how good the script was and like his his comment near the end. A no problem fucking got me this. This movie was fan. Fucking tastic total tupperware. This was the best thing you have. You watch all this week. I i agree. I love this movie so much. I loved lobbied. i loved while eat. I loved the love that he had for frank. I felt like this is like the perfect guy that he should have in his life but he also wasn't gonna put up with any bullshit like the story also so they things what happens when you're trying to deal with the fact that your family is like super unsupportive and to the point where like they want to disown you because of like you know your lifestyle like what does that leave reading. Oh the will..

"And settle in the way families did a generation ago with TGIF on ABC or two generations ago with The Ed Sullivan Show on CBS and perhaps most important to remember don't give up on watching current shows as they unroll in real time on broadcast cable and streaming sites one of the most welcome examples of what I call fresh TV was this past weekend's last second production of NBC's Saturday Night Live which presented a special at home edition it wasn't live in emanated piecemeal from the homes of various cast members and guests but it was so comforting to watch similar to the first SNL program after nine eleven when the show then is now broadcast from the epicenter of a national tragedy instead in essence we're still here that was especially true last Saturday of the evening surprise guest host speaking remotely from his own house Tom Hanks but why may is host well for one I have been the celebrity Canary in the coal mine for the coronavirus and ever since being diagnosed I had been more like America's dad than ever before since no one wants to be around me very long and I make people uncomfortable another fresh TV treat which started its third season this weekend on BBC America is killing eve the wonderfully weird comedy drama about a Russian assassin for hire with the British government investigator in hot pursuit one twist is that both these characters are women another is that over there long cat and mouse chase they become infatuated with one another and almost killed each other to as the new season begins an episode you can catch in replays on BBC America's website the assassin thanks her pursuer played by Sandra oh is dead so the Russian killer played with giddy gusto by Jody Comair gets married to another woman and gives it typically oddball wedding toast when with math I just had a really bad break really bad when I think about my ex they I realize I am so much happier now she's we need is light enough and strange enough that it serves as pure distraction which we can really use right now and my final example of fresh TV has several of the best TV performances I've seen all year produced by FX with the first three episodes premiering Wednesday on Hulu it's called Mrs America it's about the rise of the equal rights amendment in the nineteen seventies and the battle against the creator of this mini series is Davi Waller a writer for AMC's mad men and she brings this story to life with undeniable flair and vibrancy but what really carries Mrs America is its cast an all star team of actresses who treat each iconic seventies activist role like the gift it is rose Byrne plays Gloria Steinem racy almond is Betty for Dan Margo Martindale as Bella Abzug so I do but it's surely Chisholm and dominating the series in her first major American TV role is Cate Blanchett as anti women's liberation organizer Phyllis Schlafly what makes Mrs America so interesting and so unusual is that both sides of this early culture war are presented is bringing heavy artillery to the battle here's Blanchett Schlafly for example testing out her position on a receptive audience at a daughters of the American revolution lunch be clear I am not against women succeeding I am not against women working outside the home that's their choice but what I am against is a small elitist group of north eastern establishment liberals putting down the homemakers now the lever is a love to say that they're dedicated to choice but if you dare to choose the path of full time mother well there must be something wrong with you you don't feel and slays well you just don't know not in life and in fact you're not even a person that's enough to start with when you're looking.

"Up everybody's game but all the while being the most fun hilarious delightful person yeah murderers row of actresses so lucky so lucky to to work with all of them and honestly we all felt really supported by our male actors allies whether it was Ryan. Fleck directing front who's Anna Boden directing partner and an-and Ryan R. E. PS on the series? As well or slattery jealous. I'm trying to think of all the other incredible men that are in the peace and there are a lot of them who supported our ladies. And it's not that often that men step up and say I'm GonNa play the husband or the boyfriend or whatever and we were really fortunate that these extraordinarily talented guys did. Is there a different air onset in that kind of circumstance We had a lot of fun. I mean we also had a mostly female an extremely intersectional writer's room that was very important to Dav into all of us Ryan was our token straight white male. And he got there because Anna. You know you'd have conversations about or being MOMS and there were kids on that but it was just a great group. I mean Emma Asante directed episode three and four Lord Clermont or no who did the terrific Mustang and also the act which was wonderful directed episodes five and six Anna and Ryan came back into seven and nine engine Knicks Bravo did episode eight. So look who doesn't want to just sit and hang out with Margo Martindale. I'm Sarah Paulson and and Tracey Ullman. Dinners Were Fun. And that was fun guy. Everybody was supportive n not to mention Melanie Linski. Who's incredible. She's a wonderful person. I love her aunt. Sarah got to work with both of them and they're the best. They're the best and also funny so it was supportive and an I love Elizabeth Banks. She lives not that far for me and she just hiked up my hill so is able to socially distanced. Say Hello from my driveway. Her and her kids and her husband. It's a fun smart funny hard-working Group. I don't know if the air was different. I think we just had a great group of people. It's nice not to be the only woman that's a great thing too so that was a lot of fun. Do you feel that? There's a difference in the way you approach a film versus a series. I think I look at story for story. Look Television series is a marathon not a sprint. So you do really have to Pay Yourself. You have to be looking at the whole story. They're different challenges. Because we blocked shot episode. Eight was separated out. Because it's really kind of its own thing it takes place at the Houston Women's convention in Nineteen Seventy seven but you definitely have to pay attention to the Ark. All the way through and the actors are really used to that. They're really used to keeping the whole equation in their head. But no I mean I think a lot of the films I made in the ninety s might live on television today sensibility wives and I think that you want hold people's interests no matter what you're doing. Yeah so if you could go back to one moment onset in your entire career what moment would you choose to relive Wow I don't know if I can do that. There's so many on so many films you know. We had so many magical. It's funny I remember all of these really tense like scary moments and maybe it's going back and saying everything's GonNa be okay like when we blew up a candy land people because everyone's so jaded by visual effects. Don't realize that we actually blew up. Gandhi Land Bob in Quentin were in like a little plexiglass box and it exploded and burned so much hotter than we thought it was going to that. I was super worried that the steel on the lights were going to be compromised. That it could have fallen on Bob and Quentin who were under this tiny little plexiglass thing to them laughing and weren't worried at all. It's like my job to worry about them. Or like I think about the night that on Fisher King when we were shooting grand central station. And we didn't have enough money for a choreographer because it meant that every extra would have to be a dancer. We had a thousand extras and I just remember like all night long in grand central station because the extra couldn't even waltz to the Blue Danube because it was too challenging so it was just somebody in a microphone and at one point it might have been me going one two three one or I like I. I remember days like on Gatica when we were doing the close up work on Loren Dean and Ethan swimming out at the end and we were shooting in a pool and we couldn't afford a wave maker and we couldn't afford shit in a tank either and I remember somebody saying to us like if you've got a forklift it would recreate the waves. Well we didn't work day on set and I was lying on my stomach with the kickboard along with like six other people trying to make waves so I just remember these weird moments that you know are magical re. They're the Dan Vanilla Sky when they shut down. No I will tell you that as a moment I would never go back. Live Cameron Crowe. Who is a friend of mine me to act in a party scene mercifully? All of my lines are cut out He gave me like a character name. So it shows up as I'm some character. He gave me the name Raina. I don't exactly know why but MC there also I made this movie. That's not not great called feeling Minnesota and while we were shooting it was like May and it was finally like fifty degrees so I was standing under skyway and talking a Paul Westerberg from the replacements who are favor band of mine when they have a song that's called skyway and I was like standing under a skyway talking to your. I mean you know. They're just goofy things like having Tuesday. Well tell you stories about Elvis and working with Elvis you know in that was great or being with Robin Williams when he's entertaining the whole entire. Croup because you're having problems with the shot or you know making man on the moon where Jim Carey never broke character. He was either Andy Kaufman or Tony Clifton. So I've been really blessed. We had that with Jamie. Where Jamie would sing? Break people up or I'll tell you other horrible days. I don't WanNa go back in time like the day that Leonardo broke the glass and his hand was Kinda blood was running their. He'd already heard his shoulder with those candlesticks. Which you knew how happy they were all my God. Yeah and he didn't and he was rehearsing and he picked it up like it was like a lightweight prop and had already risk something in his shoulder. And I'd already called the orthopedic surgeon that had been helping us on the movie and by the time he cut his hand I was like bring your suture kit. He's on his way over. So it's like it's not that they're bad they're just like you can't imagine that. Despite all of those things the miracle of movie happens like on a everyday was fun but it was freezing in Detroit. It was so cold. I just worked with our script supervisor from that movie again on. Respect the ARETHA Franklin film with the brilliant Jennifer Hudson and by the way I'd go back any day and sit on set and listen to her sing and honestly every day working with the ladies and the men on Mrs America. I miss them. I mean having the show. Come out in the middle of this. It's it's strange not to be able to be with everybody and celebrate. Do with a because there are so many crew members in cast members that you've had to say goodbye because the show must have been. What is your process after you clean it project to sort of mourn the end of it if you will. It's funny that you stop my late mentor. And FIRST BOSS. Debra Hill who? I was super close to and who still give out a scholarship in her name through the PGA. Every year two producers not just producers but to people getting out of graduate school for producing. I used to make fun of her when I was first working for her because she used to clean out and Organiz her garage in an obsessive way after every show but I now understand it because you come home from location was so much junk and you feel really out of control because life has moved on for everybody else. But you've been in a perfect bubble away with like your summer camp friends making something and have these intense emotional experiences. And how do you create order? My kids are always like yeah. Mom's gallons ought to clean up our room whenever she's back from location then on the other hand we were up on top of that mountain. You know at ninety five hundred feet and they call me to find something in their bedroom. Even though they're incredibly participatory and fantastic father.

"Now word today that democratic the Democratic National Committee will get a huge cash infusion from former presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg Bloomberg is going to spend eighteen million dollars from his former campaign to now support the DNC's initiative and twelve swing states across the country that money could fund potentially hundreds of organizer's there it would not be legal if Bloomberg was a regular donor but presidential candidates are allowed to transfer unlimited amounts to their National Party committees Bloomberg self funded his whole presidential campaign with his personal fortune word this afternoon that another presidential primary has been postponed Indiana's governor says the may fifth primary in the Hoosier state has been postponed from may fifth until June second because of coronavirus concerns well something smells fishy on Amazon prime and don't worry it's just the latest indie film available today called blow the man down it takes place in a fictional fishing village in New England and in this low budget thriller two young girls attempt to cover up a murder and uncover a bunch of secrets while they're doing it in their small town I spoke about it with Folger critic Jen Chaney on Skype well this is a film that was originally supposed to come out in theaters and streaming at the same time but obviously nothing's coming out in theaters right now but you can still watch on streaming fortunately and it is a small indie film two young women have just lost their mother in this Easter co this fishing village in Maine and as you said one of them has a run in with a guy and it doesn't go so great and she kills them and they're trying to figure out how to cover it up they start finding out more things about their mother's past it's a tight film it's only ninety minutes but it's really well acted it's really suspenseful Margo Martindale plays a major role in it and Margaret Martin Dale is always fascinating to watch so if you're looking for something you know kind of a little dark a little bit of a thriller to watch while you're stuck at home this is a really great choice now moving on to little fires everywhere it's started streaming this week on Hulu I.

"After some head trauma there was a the big crash on the track ahead of them right and so they kind of got in in the smoke and in the chaos of it they got both hit yeah Cole hits into rowdy and their cars flip and they get airlifted to the hospital. They'll happy music underneath all that this is very interesting Lhasa Cons A- At first she does not seem very interested in Tom Cruise until he puts her hand on his Dick Yeah. That's that's an interesting scene gave tell us so a little bit earlier in the movie. After cultural has won his first race the team is travelling in their huge semi to wherever they're going hooters I have no idea somewhere and they get pulled over by. These two squad cars very attractive officer gets out they get everybody out of the semi. Get them them lined up against the truck and she frisks him and when she gets to his member it right there right we see the bolger shirt for. Do you think that was his real asking myself. What do you think game? No I mean it's probably a cop I mean I don't know I mean the panthers certainly tight enough for it to be but double double. I'm going to go penis double classic Hollywood knowledge and she's a woman that has offered herself up to him is kind of the implication says your your friends thought you'd like me and I hope she's a sex worker. Hey all more power to you know she's is not then I feel weirder yeah yeah but also you know maybe she's a big Fan. She seems happy with the situation yeah. She's under no duress. It doesn't seem uh-huh she's making her choices. which is all that we can ask for? No one's making these choices for her now another actor in that scene one of the other cops is a AH name is Nick searcy on he was unjustified. he's like the head of the whatever government agency that is and it just every character actor with a southern accent is in this movie including Margo Martindale who's in one scene at the beginning of the movie. She has no lines. She's just sitting in the background of the scene timing coming Culture Hilas he goes around the abet you. It has to do with the fact that this movie was taking three months longer to shoot than originally planned because the producers Don Simpson Jerry Bruckheimer plus Robert Towne knee town Robert towne fighting the whole time for every shot and some Don Simpson who always wanted to become an actor he like spores the screenwriter to write four page scene for him but it ended up being just a one liner so because the editor showed up on the set and he was like this guy cannot act can he's never going to be in this facility in the final macoute he is he's in the beginning. He says something like Oh. I hope like I win and this guy doesn't make it or something and so but like yeah but like all while he's having crazy parties apparently they they I mean Bruckheimer and Simpson they converted the hotel into a private gym for four hundred thousand dollars and put a sign that said days of thunder at the front and there were having crazy parties would rappers and stuff on the beach and they were giving away designer dresses mostly Don Simpson Design addresses two attractive women to sleep with them and so brought time zone who's actually doing any work done. Simpson was is just partying like crazy apparently so it was simpson and Bruckheimer fighting with each other or was it the two of them fighting with town. Everybody was fighting and because of that production and just got delayed by three months which is insane how much money so from thirty five million dollars ballooned balloon to seventy some million dollars inches double in our money today and a lot of times do crew would just sit there waiting and they said the overtime like made his crew crew guys later take like a four month vacation because they had all this extra money from this weekend spill. So what I'm saying is that because all this crazy stuff was going on they might have had like a decent scenes for Margo Martindale and other people but they just they just cut it out because at the end of the chaos they forgot to shoot Kohl's car car winning Daytona going to the finish line so they had to pull shot like extra production was shut down and like reshoot it anyway. It sounds like a complete nightmare idea that explains why Jerry Bruckheimer then goes on to be the only person in that production company logo no longer Simpson Bruckheimer production right. We'll paramount fires them. After this film a year prior to this film they make a five year contract with them like overall deal. Make whatever you want and then seeing how all of this movie is doing the terror that contract and they're like you both fired so they have to move on and have the second sort of phase of their producing life until nineteen ninety six went went simpson dies. I see how crazy I love the story behind the movie and that's what I'm blaming for why I was confused during the medical montage after after the accident yeah probably medical montage of Rowdy and whole being wheeled into the trauma center we meet Claire which is I just hate that name for but anyway. It's a good name the richest clearly she's not clearly we aren't you looking woman. She's just not but I was able to get past that now anyway and and but I just the for for mood I thought explained everything and and you know even taught us all the lingo and stuff I thought that the actual accident and the medical montage was ah them getting into the hospital and getting to the point where we find out if they're going to be medically cleared or not was just very chaotic so yeah they need to get cleared to get back on track and Claire Says No way she needs to see some improvement in their physical health before issue. Let them race again in this time they become friends which is cute. All everyone becomes friends during this time rowdy and cold become friends. That's the big turn. That's the big sort of mid point turn of descript. Is that Whoa we I thought this was the antagonist of the film but he's not because it become fast friends. Actually the head of NASCAR played by Fred Thompson tells them if they hit each other again he's GonNa kick them out of NASCAR and they decided instead of settling this on the track. Let's settle it it with rental cars on the La River sounds funny but based on the real story. Apparently the racers early on in the fifties would do all the time yeah they beat the hell out of these rental cars and in the end they find common ground as two lovers of speed and chrome thrown. If American cars did anything it was bringing people together make them get over their differences the tourist aluminum you know the peacekeeping cars yes so their friends now Tom Wu's claire by seemingly so you just by sending her a lot of flowers that that is the turning point for her right like she's holy uninterested in him until one day she gets home and there's too many flowers there and that is all of a sudden she used turn on a dime and now she likes him. She wants to fly out because she's too busy right to anybody and he also because her boss to get her time off when you're starting to court with some of what you want is for them to get involved in your career and you know complain your boss about your working hours. Oh we didn't even and finish the fact that because this his friends higher this woman to pretend to be a cop and grope him when he wakes up in the hospital well he thinks they've done the same thing with Nicole Kidman and so he grabs her hand puts it on his Dick and everyone thinks it's hilarious and she handles it pretty pretty well. Yes the joke. Maybe that's a I can montage or she. Does she think before that I was wondering that that scene gene maybe think about like their marriage and the whole thing. That's another layer that I liked about this was it was kind of around the time that they were doing like far and away but I liked. I did like the layer of yeah that of them knowing each other real life. I don't know six months later after the movie was done got married. Wow look at him now. Not Married not speaking it might be maybe they did. Maybe they college phone. You know maybe they have a good friendship Keith all right so that her husband never been country music singer Australian also showed her than her. She's got type. How tall is she eighty? Five ten. I Dunno she's. I'M GONNA go with five eleven. That's just my guess. We'll never know no. There's no way for us to know so they fall in love love. He put Sweden low on her legs rowdy. However is not cleared to get back on the doesn't clear him? Rowdy has a persistent brain injury that he is choosing to ignore. He has a blood clot in his brain hemorrhage that the same thing not a blood clot. It's like there's no blood. Flow hemorrhages like there's lots of blood flow marineland opposite would be like a blockage. Where's the hemorrhages bleed? Hey Hey he's brain needs a fixing yeah. Absolutely wow Cole has been off the track. The team has replaced him with a new driver played by carry. Elway's Dick Right away. You just hate that guy. Hey Tate and once Cole has been cleared to race again. Randy Quaid sets up a second second team so that carry always can also keep racing and we now see oh Kerry elway is the true antagonist of this film later you you know in the film. It's like Oh wait. There isn't a tag but I did like that rowdy. I thought was going to be the antagonists for the entire film and like midway through. It's like Nope we're besties and then there's like a new guy. Mr Princess Bride comes in and hilarity ensues. I don't know I like that. I wasn't expecting it. That's an unusual turn of story. Ren Randy quit also becomes a sort of antagonists to he's become seduced by the sponsorship money and he's wearing nicer suits now and sunglasses his and he has less time for coal more time for carry l. Wes and Cole is is like afraid to race now right. He's Picky as Dean Israel after his accident. He's being very careful on the track and Robert Duvall can see it in and he knows that's no way to win but at this point point Cole trickle can speak he can talk cars really well. He can explain what's going on with his car if it's not doing well while his crew who is in the pit listening to him over the headphones speaking of headphones apparently the we're turning into this lines like for the move there were constantly having rewrite the day off which never happens from like it's very tv sort of situation like having rewrites the day off so times Tom Cruise had to race and look down to see his lines on the dashboard and then speak a mop like half somebody in easy or tell him what the lines are the driving yeah. He started at such a question for you did you had you seen this movie and you ever seen this movie before. Do you have any connection to NASCAR or car racing in any way no to all of it. What about you know I've heard of the movie I think it may be seen some clips who I've never seen it before and yeah? I don't know I didn't know much about NASCAR. This was like a primer for me. Well I know about NASCAR FROM NASCAR car racing. I should say from documentaries center an amazing documentary highly recommended water great film so this is like the one time I learned more more about car racing I ever knew before talking. I don't remember anything about it except that it was great listener. We don't have to do other work for you. Go type it into Google Yourself S. E. N. A. Check it out. It's about a racer who is pretty great and bad shit happens to him. It runs out of sweet and low so he can explain nothing. That's the big turn in his story. Coal is all of the relationships in his life are are kind of going down the drain or Robert Duvall feels like he's not being honest with him. seems Claire. You know feels like He. He's he's not admitting things to himself. Rowdy is hiding his brain injury from himself. Everyone's hiding things from themselves. Anti and Tom just can't race you know and carry out west. It's driving him crazy. 'cause he's Robin on the track and nobody's doing anything about it and eventually Tom Cruise it. Just almost T. bones amount on the track. After carry always wins a race Tom Cruise right post-race rage right. Yeah road rage after the fact road rage is real yeah even in nineteen ninety and that takes him that takes them to his low point of the film and then and we can start the redemption portion of it and how does that Brooklyn breaking down the scripts guys so yeah he gets fired and so where where does it. Where does he turn Gabe? What does he do while he goes and he sees rowdy? Roddy is not taking care of his brain injury. He he comes from a family that does not see doctors is Nicole. Kidman is like why hasn't Tom Cruise been to see him as been to visit him and Robert Duvall a racer doesn't want to go see someone in the hospital doesn't want to go to a funeral general because it's what could be for them..

Don Simpson Tom Cruise Cole Jerry Bruckheimer Claire NASCAR Robert Duvall Margo Martindale Nicole Kidman Simpson Bruckheimer panthers officer Hollywood Nick searcy La River Tom Wu Robert Towne Kerry elway Tom

"The movie once again here's the seas chase in the yeah we talk about movie wise obviously a fast and furious what is a Calvin and Hobbes is out and then the line what is it I would watch that over dom comic I never got Calvin I I don't know something about it Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey sorry Hey there Sir Calvin and Hobbes was probably the best comic of all time so how dare you first of all and second of all you take that back in the morning lies by people like you with your pickup truck in your Calvin sticker P. in on what the Ford logo the Chevy logo it that that taking it in a much different you didn't see that coming did you that that's not where where I was going with okay but you know what I'm talking about and online too but but real you introduce kids to philosophies and you know stop tiger brand brand loyalty it was a fair it's a fantastic comic and I think every go read enough all right so anyway those to the and then the line king of courses out too but yeah now you've got what four five new movies out this weekend right of those two movies are still going to top of box office because he got about challengers but none of them are going to do much this is it the meat August this is the time where you dump a movie you kind of read of the body the think it's not gonna do too well it release that you kind of just want to hide this is the time to do it because people are in that transition of we're going back to school work and stuff for school on take your last vacation August usually not a great time for opening movie so we have five new movies opening this weekend box office wise the best of those is gonna be Dora and the lost city of gold which actually does have a shot at maybe not in the box office we're looking maybe twenty million there during the explorer Dora Dora the explorer Dora it is elated live action is not a cartoon an axe and it's getting good reviews so if you're looking for something for the family maybe that's one you could go to the in second place of the new movies money wise is going to be scary stories to tell in the dark that is co produced by Guillermo del Toro off from the world of ship of water also getting good reviews and it's if you're so you're looking for something scary based on children's book of the same name about a young girl whose book of scary stories written about her tortured life becomes all too real person team to discover the block then you have what should be a fantastic movie given the calf in the in the in the plot Melissa McCarthy Stephanie how this and Elisabeth moss in the kitchen which is an adaptation of the DC comics mini series about a health the health kitchen neighborhood the seventies and their husbands all go to prison so they take over their husbands mob roles and so they become like lady mobsters in the seventies this is gonna be a train wreck yeah it's terrible absolutely terrible the plot is like I think I've heard of before so in and again anything that it's good to have this this got a bill of familiarity to it so it's from Milan aired but I'm thinking well there are the potential actually pretty good if you would have written a caster there is it is it the writing then you'll have a fantastic cast you could not only Melissa McCarthy need me how to sing a little bit that's a solid you have the potential to be great young Margo Martindale who's fantastic Tomball Gleason who I love I mean just the there's much see good things here and it's great that are sort of the potential to be blood funny violin but so then you have the part of racing in the rain which is my login to Millia and Amanda Seyfried he plays a racing enthusiast there's a dog involved in looks really cute but it's getting terrible reviews as well she's a mixed reviews then there's Brian banks which is the true based on a true story of a football player here in the LA area who is falsely accused of of ray he was about the was it was in high school he's about to go into college had a pro career ahead of them he was falsely accused of rape went to prison for six years and then the so this is the story of him getting out and what at what everything that happened there okay very good so you got lots of choices this weekend and they all stink other than Calvin and Hobbes Lucy Calvin and Hobbes fast and furious it's amazing that the tiger drives of this tale it's crazy so yeah I mean it's so good throw water because is actively and the Calvin sticker on the back of one of the one one of the tricked out cars that yeah it's a leak on the I can't leaking on the other logo right exactly so all right Jason Nathan somebody will talk again next week all right this is are compelling content here with you and Jason ABC news Jason on Twitter have a good one brother that means a Cunningham is on the way next get to the weekend and we got bangles tomorrow of course at the eight o'clock in the football is on baby football's on the Reds the cubs to as well battle this weekend coming off that big loss last night's if they can take out three in a row when the series it's all ahead here this week and enjoyed scouts launch of seven hundred W. out of the Cincinnati it's the behemoths on the line sure handed speedsters at white out it's the red headed quarterback named Andy.

"I don't know. Season is the first is amazing. And then Bryan, Cranston created the show. But Margo Martindale is in this show. And she's is there the one bond company, she and her husband, it's all about being bonding. Really kind of it's just a con long con. It's too wild. Spoiler alert to say, Giovanni character stole somebody else's sanity. Okay. So it is a and, but it is like there's a con con within a condom you. The gal from the Americans who Martha member. She got sent to Russia, and she fell in love with Clark who was. And British accent. Yeah, she's really great. It's this kind of got some interesting character. So anyway, here's Margo Martindale because she's on Seth Meyers. And she does always play. I mean she's in her sixty and she's consistently working on a good fi. Yes. So many could show so here, she is. I feel like you're this incredible run of really a three dimensional characters that, that maybe didn't exist for a female actors in the past you were wonderful unjustified before then you play the KGB agent on the fantastic Americans are you so happy that these roles exist right now in different than when you first started out as up play very nice next door. Neighbor for so many years, very, very happy to be murdering people. Stone cold in justified. On the Americans. And I've had I've talked to two other actors feel like it was this show, that was, so beloved really nail the ending were you just be so satisfied relieved when a show ends that nicely. It ended with such class and understated and boy, I could almost tear up thinking about how it ended you as a cagey Beijing. I know I heard you made one request that the show creators did not grant. Well, I wanted to slit yet another throat. Yeah. Do it. Do any of course she, I mean I do that. I know that people didn't watch like it wasn't a huge, huge show. Maybe it'll give big when American streams on Netflix. Sure. But that show is so how it sets. Where we are with Russia, how that even started like from back in the late seventies, it shows where where we end up going. If you were going to be in the if it makes any sense at all because it's all this stuff in the playbook. Is this? It was incredible incredible. So here, she is talking about, she got priests from an ex KGB agent about who has shoes KGB handling her Russian assets. Who are, you know, the Keri Russell character and Matthew Reese, you know how they're pretending to be Americans but they're really not actually got some very high praise for your a portrayal of the KGB agent from someone on the street. KGB Asia X stopped me several times, really tell me, you're the real deal. Wow. It seems to me.

"Sounds very interesting to me, especially with somebody like Dexter Fletcher behind the camera who I don't know about you guys. But I really love Eddie the eagle. I think it's a really a fun underdogs worth movie like that often doesn't really get made much anymore. And I think that he really brought some some flair to it and vibrancy to that story. And so I think him doing something like rocket man is really exciting. Yeah. You've sold me who was moving up to the middle. My only worry with FM. Is you see in the trailer like that moment where the people in the in the concert are like floating in the air. Is it the people in the concert of people on stage? I'm now forgetting it's one of the two people in the concert, and they're they're. Yeah. They're around the level of the stage. I'm wondering how much the movie is going to be that kind of wonderful fantasy and I feel like that's going to be like one of two moments. But but I want to see this, right? Everybody agree. There are final three should come. From. The middle section is anything else. We think it should be added to the section. One movie I want to mention, but I'm not sure it deserves to be in. Our middle section is missing link. Just because it's from Waco innovation studios. I don't feel like like has made anything that's like been best to the year yet. You know, unlike Pixar, Disney or the other integration, okay? Think is I haven't seen Kubo yet. Oh, I know. It's shave. Shave. It's on my watch less. But I I like don't think like that top anybody's top ten like it was in their top ten boy there's been movies from Disney movies from DreamWorks movies from Pixar, maybe not elimination. But those those other studios that have like been the best film of the year, according to people, and I feel like like everybody seems to like their movies. They loved Kubo, but it has never reached like the best of the year, which which I'm not saying doesn't make back then on pass dot com. It would've topped my top ten probably it would have been your number one. Well, that's what I mean by here. Top ten. Number five or six slot. I was pretty warm on it on my list. But, but I feel like this one doesn't look as exciting as you know, Kubo or paranoia remaining or their other stuff like the story here out of its bad trailer. But the trend is initially needs a bad movie. You know, but trailer definitely be little deflated. But I have the fame reaction to as a big Laker fan. I don't think they've made a bad movie yet. And yet this trailer did not kind of the outfield the opposite. I think leaned too far heavily into Zakout innocuous, his comedy antics, and I was just not really feeling the overall movie, but I wonder if Travis Knight is kind of the. Gonna make the comparison to John Lasseter. But that's the feels wrong. Sake of that studio and him not being there, you know, being away doing Bumblebee may. I'm wondering if it has any effect on this film. Yeah, we we gave it its due credit by talking about it here. But it should make the list fair enough. All right. I'm going to lead this bottomless lets anybody else wants to jump in right now in Cape or something. I don't have anything that that I think would fit, but I just want to give a quick shout out to two things that are getting ready to disappear and that is a movie called the kitchen, which is from director. Andrea Birla who I think this is her first movie, she's the writer of strata, the content and the movie sounds really interesting. It's the wives of New York. Gangsters and hell's kitchen in the nineteen seventies continued to operate their husbands rackets after they're locked up in prison. And it sounds sort of like widows, and it has the cast includes Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany haddish Donald Gleason, Elizabeth moss common, James badge, Dale, Margo Martindale. I mean, it sounds like a really like interesting cool movie. I wasn't as crazy about what does as a lot of ever. Pretty much everybody else was especially Chris. But this sounds like something with a similar premise that might you know, be able to fill that hole for me. So that was one that's called the kitchen..
