Structuring Your Novel by K.M. Weiland

"Hi Welcome to season two, episode thirty, two of the rookie rider show I'm your host Air Brown and today we're GONNA be talking about structuring your novel by Cam Weiland. A little about Cam Weiland I'm going to quote her author page here. Km, wiling lives in make believe world's talks to imaginary friends and survive primarily on chocolate truffles and espresso. She is the award winning and internationally published author of the Acclaimed Writing Guides, outlining your novel, stretching your novel and creating character Arcs when she's not making things up she's busy mentoring other authors on her award winning blog she makes her home in Western Nebraska. And Also on the website, she says that you can call her Katie you visitor site and sign up for the newsletter list. You can download a free writing craft book entitled Five Secrets Of Story Structure How to read a novel stands out. In that book while in says, you will learn and again here I'm quoting. Why the inciting incident isn't what you've always thought it is what your key event is and how stop putting it in the wrong seen. How do identify your pinch points and why they can make the middle of your book easier to write and how to ace your stories climactic moment every single time end quote. If you haven't already, I would also urge you to check out wildlands podcast helping writers become authors. Which incidentally is also the inver website, the website itself is very easy to use and chock full of free resources like the aforementioned book. No surprise that has been listed on writers digest one a one best websites for writers every year since two, thousand, fourteen finally for today's Title I would suggest that you consider checking out the accompanying workbook for what it's worth I got the digital version of the book and the physical copy of the workbook. So I could easily job. Thought at them but you do you. Okay. Down to business. Here are my three things number one. Two halves of the same hole wildland reminds us that beginnings and endings are the true heart of your story and that satisfying beginnings and endings mirror each other in some way. Boiling it down to its most essential. She says, quote, the beginning asks a question and the ending answers it and quote, and the ending must answer that specific question or according to island. The whole book will feel, okay number two, the two big types of questions. While you will have a specific question that you need to answer, there are two main types of questions, plot questions and theme questions. I'M GONNA. Use examples from Wilde's book to illustrate the difference between these two types. Okay. Question example this is quoting your book will margie stop her self destructive lifestyle of drugs and liquor before she loses her soul mate Tom Forever, and that's a question, the question and I'm GONNA use the same scenario the example would be will margie. Find self worth or piece. Okay. A couple of notes here. I novels often have both a plot and Athene question. In fact, I would say they almost always do secondly, no matter what type of question it is while end advises that should be a question that can be answered with yes or no by the okay. A dare note if you write more literary works and ending that leaves people debating whether it was a yes or no can be a huge win. Examples of this include doubt by John Patrick Shanley and state of wonder by an Patchett. But for most books, you want people to have a clear idea about the answer to the question. Yes or no so I think she's right there. Okay. Number three, the end. Despite, the fact that while end isn't enthusiastic plotter planner. And strongly advises outlines obviously, she still writes several endings. This leads us directly to today's quote this her quote thanks to the ever important outline. I never begin a novel without knowing how I want it to end and yet I almost always write three or four endings before I find the correct one stories even intricately outlined ones evolve as we create them the nuanced ending we have in mind at the beginning might no longer be appropriate once we reach it and quote while offer strategies for coming up with different endings, things like using Beta readers setting aside temporarily. But she also reminds you and here comes a bonus quote quote in many ways endings are one of the most fun parts of the process by then all the puzzle pieces are available to play with. You know your characters inside out and you've got a pile of one hundred pages or more to prove that you can do this. So enjoy yourself if more than one ending is necessary have fun playing with the options and take advantage of the opportunity to rebel and your story world just a little bit longer and quote that's cantwell it. Okay today's hack. Is it ever too early while and advises us to put in our question early ideally setting up that question remember a yes. No question whether it's the plot or both from the very first scene doesn't have to be entirely in the first but start that process. From the GECKO okay I hope this was

Scott Peterson death penalty overturned by California Supreme Court

"California Supreme Court has overturned the 2005 death sentence for Scott Peterson in the slaying of his pregnant wife, Kay, CBS's Margie Schaefer reports. The nationally televised case was prosecuted in San Mateo County. This overturning of the death penalty comes more than 15 years after Scott Peterson was convicted of killing his pregnant wife, Lacey, a schoolteacher in Modesto. And their unborn son, Conner and dumping the bodies in the San Francisco Bay, the court, saying prosecutors may try again for the same sentence if they wish In the high profile case. Loyola Law School professor Laurie Levinson says she's not totally surprised by the ruling. There's substantial evidence that the jurors in this case already had their attitudes made up by the time they actually heard the evidence. And that's a problem, especially in a death penalty case. See an animus decision by the California Supreme Court, saying, We have to be extra careful that when jurors make this type of decision they're making it fairly. The court did uphold Peterson's conviction of murdering Lacy Peterson and their unborn son, Conner. If prosecutors up to not retry the penalty phase, Peterson's punishment becomes life in prison.

"Margie no here lead in genesis total exteriors in the house and they do interiors to been on my referrals for many years we're gonna talk to Rick about an interesting case with an H. away and we have a common man who has been calling in the show many years I remember him because it first was very unusual he had a disease where he required infusions of calcium three times a week it is not like a shot is of blood trip it looks like a blood transfusion so it comes out they put it in the blood it goes back in I'm he I don't know where they get it but it's pure calcium he's given in a trance fusion into his bloodstream your body does not absorb is that how it is you a just do a form it doesn't absorb calcium your body is that what it is yes Tom that's correct it does not absorb calcium and it and it's because of your thyroid parathyroid and you've had this need for infusions for many years but you were born with the condition and they're only fifteen hundred in the entire world roughly that we know of right because some some people might just die from it because you get spasms and convulsions right and I'm sorry without calcium I understand probably brittle bones and stuff but I mean what else what what is calcium may live I keep my my muscles working so I mean you'd you'd literally be paralyzed without it right he would he would have a a grand mal seizure whatever you call he would have a major seizure or your spouse your diaphragm would stop all right good he wouldn't breathe is giving you these transfusions for ever since two thousand three now before that he had the disease but no one knows why he didn't need them did you need any calcium before that are supplements tablets okay tab will but really this is interesting for those people that take calcium for their supplements you have a little Q. easier what other problems yeah your bones don't absorb it he's living proof he has to have it in his blood stream and yeah but he survived off those up until two thousand four okay right but his need for his need for calcium okay why don't you explain that calcium is increased right and but they've actually measured after taking supplements happened that you're so you're one of the few people that actually had this done well explain that well I saw I saw doctors in Philadelphia and they actually measured supplements right you took supplements and they measured your blood correct what did they find that my calcium is always low right it did not increase your cassock not did not now here's what I'm getting at is for for years and years the doctor who I call my guru for years that started the low carb kick before anyone in the world thirty five years ago even for Atkins yes before I can waive our way before Atkins and he had started I believe he started he worked for some cancer research a way or diabetes and but the point is is that he said taking calcium orally is ridiculous it does not help your bone density at all zero it does put calcium in your system yes but he does not it'll help your muscles but it will never increase bone density so you probably did not have a bone density issue at that time you had mainly muscle issues correct but anyone taking calcium for bone density so it's not gonna work I mean it just doesn't and and it's amazing and then people say well if I take it with my knees it well now it won't you're never gonna make bond you're never going to add your bone density it's just not gonna happen with the way you know what I think would be super cold only Trish and can do it over time but it does there's nothing directly yeah I like hell bio T. creates at palette but they only have a couple things in it why can't they pop thing and I asked about pellets for other stuff I asked him if he could do pallets his need is too great but that would be an infusion into the bloodstream I mean everything you lack to get you to where you're supposed to that is I mean I thought what a brilliant delivery system now I do now there are other drugs they're experimenting with they put in pallet form and slowly release yes that and they're experimenting with others okay Jeez can you imagine as as time goes on we actually have some place on Hipper sudden it almost like a pocket like opening up pop it in bloom three months later yeah yeah you look at your body get your blood your new pop market right there are a subcutaneous delivery is one of the things people are working on another one is spray in the in the mouth because it's such a good delivery system that's how they do some of the flu shots Rick Rick what were you selling your H. away for well the broke into the locker and took my belongings and why and why did they do it well they lost track of who only ski lockers and I was one of the unfortunate to they got their locks cut what did they admit it was wrong it was a mistake not really well they have a record of you how did you know what was yours did you have a record of it I bought it fifteen years ago and I cannot reproduce the the checker wrote from fifteen years ago I tried to get that from the bank and it's just too long it could be that you lost it N. N. because you lost the case because of proof in and nothing to do with whether or not they had an attorney hold on a sec though because I want to give you time and then we can address it now impact traffic.
