"This is northwest news radio 1000 FM 97 7. Now to Texas and the last funeral for a victim of the school massacre in ivaldi, the service coming as more parents speak out about the police response to the shooting, and as hearings resume tomorrow, ABC's Marcus Moore has more from Dallas. A month later, Kimberly and angel Garcia are still yearning for answers. I just miss her. Like, I just start talking about her and it's just so hard just to know that I don't have her anymore. Ten year old Amari Joe Garza was one of the 19 children killed and you've already May 24th along with two of their beloved teachers. Like so many other despot parents, her stepfather, Angela medic, quickly responded to calls for help that day at rob elementary. I don't get how you can listen to those kids and not go save them. There are also calls for accountability over the law enforcement response to the massacre, and since the shooting, much of the focus in the public has been placed squarely on school district police chief Pete areno. Has defended his actions and said in an interview that he didn't consider himself the commanding officer on the scene that day. There's so many officers at that school. And they were so busy trying to keep us away. Who do you want us to know about our Marie? Is she always made sure that people knew that they had a friend? I'm Ari's family, now cherishing the art. She crafted with her innocent hands that now bring comfort to their grieving hearts. Angel writing this open letter to Amari after her death. I know what to tell you had my look. You could have gone anywhere. It hurts me the most that I won't get to see who you would have become. Family members describe amaury Joe as brave and a natural protector. In fact, they said that she tried to call 9-1-1 that day before she was shot and killed. So even in her final moments, this ten year old girl thought

"Programs enrollment in cygnet depends on contract renewal And we now go to ABC News and early on we heard from Benny Thompson as well saying what would happen to you if you did what Steve Bannon has done really making it plain for the American people And when you talk about the public in general where do most Americans stand right now as far as how justifiable or necessary this committee's work is at this point Yeah it's interesting when you look at the latest snippy act poll that came out just tonight you're seeing that most Americans actually feel like they know enough about January January 6th But they don't feel like there's additional information necessarily that could be gleaned from this effort But that same poll also had a majority 51% saying that president Trump has been undermining democracy since January 6th and a larger margin than that 59% saying that in their view January 6th was an attack on democracy So people have internalized this I think the question for the committee is how much you continue to hammer that home Remind people of what happened just that 9 9 or ten months ago and again how terrible that day was even though right now there is in a sense among the public that there are unanswered questions Clearly there are things we don't know including what the president's role was you know the round that date We may never learn everything around it As John reported we could be playing out the clock quite a bit here over the ensuing months But the effort by this committee to try to keep this in the news keep this in the headlines keep this as a focus and a piece of conversation I think he's going to be a big one And we know so much surrounding this investigation into January 6th has really been clouded by politics If this process does get delayed through core challenges and runs deeper into next year what kind of impact do you think that this could potentially have on the midterms both in primaries and the general election next fall Yes fascinating Lindsay it's going to mean different things in different places For congresswoman Cheney but we saw so much of just tonight She's got a primary challenger who's been supported by president Trump And the message that president Trump is trying to send to all Republicans is that if you cross him you're gonna do that at your political peril and that it could cut back against you But the message to a more mainstream Republicans other Republicans who are now at least quietly concerned about how Trump has handled all of this but won't say so publicly the message that's being sent is that you're going to pay a political price for that that people are going to be reminded of what happened on January 6th And the timeline here is so interesting because the Democrats control the clock but so much of the information could be controlled by former president Trump and the people around him the Democrats could spread this out as much as they want They could wrap it up as quickly as they want They want to report out though that voters will have in time for the midterms They'll be able to take into consideration any of the information in the revelations Any of the concrete findings before next November because the closer you get to election day the more politicized it's going to be the more political it looks But again they don't want too much time to be spaced out there either So it's going to be a little bit of a dance between all of these different entities over the next 13 months or months or so Recline thank you so much I appreciate all of your insight as well And now we move back to the desperate efforts to rescue a missionary group that was kidnapped in Haiti The FBI has now made contact with the gang suspected of holding the 16 Americans in one Canadian They are demanding millions for their safe return ABC's Marcus Moore once again on the ground for us in Haiti tonight and actually caught up with a priest who was kidnapped and freed by that suspected gang.

"And thousand dollar average revenues of peru's just swanky places that are going great for them even some of the other properties. Maybe you're slowing down a little bit. So i thought it was interesting to hear the ceo. Richard stockton talk about investor conference On august seventeenth middle august. Talking about you know how the results were doing and where people are actually willing to spend some money Even bigger numbers lisa. That pardon looked like it in bigger numbers and they had even in two thousand nineteen your high end leisure business and leisure resorts love. Your resorts are doing very well We've seen rates above where we were able to get pre pandemic. I think a lot of that is driven by the desire ability of our assets. And the fact that we're in grade that we've got great ashen grey locations and this is where we wanna go. I wanna go same I did walk by some of those places in the nfl last weekend. It was a lovely spot extra down. Let's look at marine max. I'm gonna if you know. This is one of my favorite companies. I've talked about marie max before. H z os. What a trades under h shares. Were relatively flat today. But they'd get ninety percent in a year. So what's new with remax. Well we talked about it back in july briefly and one of the reasons companies as one short the stock short this because the ceo said they're having a lousy quarter and i was an investment conference. Raymond james investment conference and there. Were you know easily. A hundred other hedge fund and portfolio managers in the room. Who heard the ceo saying they were doing having a lousy quarter but the analysts have raymond. James kept saying no. It's going to be really good quarter. I don't know why he's saying that. I walked out of the room saying he just told you they're not doing well. So short of the stock and they came out with a lousy earnings and the stock went down. And i always. I always thought it was so great of that then. Ceo to to be so honest His son dow runs a company as ceo. And it's she financial officer. Michael mclamb also handled out of the duties on their quarterly conference calls but today they announced Well they've been talking about an inability to get enough self stuff to sell the boats during the pandemic and after the pandemic have been selling like crazy. They just can't get enough inventory. Well how do you get more inventory. You buy a boat maker. So they bought intrepid powerboats based in largo florida. The announced acquisition tita. Today they make custom powerboats And the deals gonna close by the end of the year. They think it's going to be a creative right off the bat. This company did sixty million dollars in revenue and was profitable the expected profitability to continue. And we'll be creative to this company and the acquisition in the first twelve months of the deal on once it's closed but i thought it was interesting to hear from the company in though ask conference call about what inventory meant and indeed if they were having cancelled zayd cancellations at all from orders that the customers were putting out there for new boats. Here's cfo michael mclamb. We really haven't seen any any any uptick in cancellations at all people are locking. I think there's a dynamic out there that in the past people voters have always upgraded. Both right they wanna larger boat one day and i think in the past people would say hey next season. Let's go looking for both right now. People are looking at it and say we'd better get our vote on order now if we want it for next season. So there's that's creating some patients in and of itself and people are being more proactive about their future. Purchase and You know we'll figure out a way to keep them on the book 'cause get more votes. That's a marine. Max is doing the many businesses that suffered during cova. Would you believe the sale of atm's are automatic. We try to keep it interesting. It sounds like a cartoon character sounds. It'd be finished in verb. Well yeah it's an interesting history of and they go back over one hundred years. The deebo business actually started with safes and security and all that and then kind of ventured into atm machines and they purchased the wing chord nixdorf company of germany. In two thousand seven right. No sorry two thousand fifteen. Sorry sorry way to stiebel tables. Okay you know you never like to correct a host now and that's all good. It's so it's it's a three billion dollar company with an eight hundred million which is your specialty. What is so basically. They are a have view themselves as a leader in what they call connected commerce. And you know it's a fancy way to say that they facilitate Banking and retail transactions Mostly through first off their atm's what's the biggest part of their business and then also through like self-checkout or sell checkoff kiosks in retail and so globally they have the number one hundred per share all atm's What about a one million installed units in about a thirty percent market share. And then they're number one in retail kiosk in like self-checkout the you know the the the online or the store ordering you might see a fast food restaurant. Now they're number one in europe With a nineteen percent market share globally but their market share in europe is somewhere like thirty forty percent and so the focus again so like the like the safeway. I live listeners. Note that markets. And i live near each other and the and the only way to get out of there at any results so in the focus i think sometimes is placed too much on. Atm's given the fact that in the us and most developed economies you're saying significant reductions in bank branches significant reduction in cash transactions. But you have to think about that. You know throughout the rest of developing europe in developing countries. They're still kind of ramping up those of services and so there's still a need for that business and even in the us and european markets which are more mature deeper was actually taking market share because of some of their new technology They have a system called the deion series. Which is kind of new network around. Atm's and it's faster they actually use recycled material. It's lighter to ship so it's a cost less to the user but then also it's connected in so with how it works. Is they have a software that connects the entire system in that that network connection allows them to be much more proactive kind of managing any potential outages in maintenance. And so instead of you know just having the go every six months because that's just the routine scheduled that we do maintenance on these machines they actually can tell in real time. If there's a potential outage bet may be sooner than the six month window in which they would normally Do some routine maintenance or maybe longer so they don't have to make that stop and so what they're finding is that Cost in terms of maintenance costs in terms of the ongoing maintenance are down about fifty percent relative to the previous years of atm's and so given that functionality and reduce downtime they're seeing a lot of you know significant wins even in a mature space like the us banking market has released. Atm's.

"On stocks and move and we have the three most important developments in the world of business today with executive producer. Isaac webster cory the. Us trade deficit widened to a record in august is imports. Rebounded imports rose one point. Four percent reflecting higher shipments into the us of consumer goods and industrial supplies. Though shipments into an out of the us grew overall and august issues with global supply. Chains have continued as we know a severe shortage of semiconductors forced automakers to reduce their production exports vehicles and parts fell eight percent while imports also shrank five point two percent and also let's get to energy prices energy prices continue to surge today the west texas intermediate us the us oil benchmark rising another one point seven percent to seven over seventy eight almost seventy nine dollars a barrel after reaching its highest level since two thousand fourteen. Yesterday and natural gas prices are also soaring concerns about a shortfall and stockpiles. Heading into winter worth noted that the oil bill talked to amplify energy a pipeline. That's leaking have probably has nothing to do with that really didn't produce that much oil. That would have an effect on oil prices and finally let's get to apple. A banks are reportedly pushing visa to adjust the way it processes some apple pay transactions. Now this is according to the wall street journal. The paper says under a potential plan by visa the fees that card issuers. Pay to apple. When they're cardholders use apple pay wouldn't apply on automatic recurring payments such like gym memberships are streaming services. Visa may implement this change next year but the journal says it may not because apple executives have told visa reportedly that they oppose the change. Yeah they wanna keep getting cut thinks. Well the big issue there. That's the reason apple pay works for visa is as a better kind of fraud detection right the fatality. The biometric proof of the user is who the user claims to be is something that visa doesn't have otherwise and apple. You know things that maybe these ought to be paying for that That benefit lower fraud is more more profit for visa at once. Share that corey was socks. You drilling down on today. Start with unity software. You need software trades under you. Shares rose almost ten percent today and they've gained fifty two percent in a year. What's going on with unity software. Yeah so vastly outperforming the s&p five hundred now full disclosure. I spent some time with some executives at unity in media training teaching them how to be on camera so figure that i'm totally biased. I think is a very interesting business. regardless Now it is a gaming business release. It started that way creating an engine and software tools to sort of manipulate that engine. The probably half of all the world's video games now But there's much more of this business now than games in three d. they're going into a world where all kinds of companies are starting to design three d. experiences online and offline companies like not just gaming companies right. This might surprise you. Lows walgreen nature. Conservancy these are all customers of this. Three d gaming engine of where the company now kind of describes it as the multi-diverse now today announced that unity meta cast is a new sports platform doing interactive content As in particular partnering with ufc or your huge fan. Isaac of the mixed martial arts. I am actually. yeah well. Why wouldn't you be so These apartment with usc to create some new stuff. They're not saying what is going to be beyond games and the guy they're hired to run. It is really an interesting higher here. Peter moore who had been the number two guy at an electronic arts left there to be president of the nco. The liberal football club and terrific success with liverpool. He's coming back to the states and back to the gaming business actually. I assume he's coming back to the states. He's been in. England friendly cinema facebook message this morning But i think it's a huge deal to bring in someone of that calibre to this company and this guy that could have run electronic arts of something. Big he's a catch for unity and it shows how this business goes beyond just video games into actual sports and who knows what else And it was interesting to last conference. Call to hear john. Rick italo these. Ceo of unity talk about how their businesses or more than just games and and more than just selling software but selling software as a service and also selling their own professional services programmers. Who could kind of teach other companies how to use that software and get up and running in the multi-diverse today we get outside gaming Permanently shaft physician professional services business. You're right we shall see seat licenses and show runtime applications like warm. I can reflect for customers. These companies have also typically need Help getting up and running with their new applications And show we'd companies like walgreens and lows the nature conservancy and many many others professional services you in prior to talk about how they're hiring entity developers a lot of these companies. Are they are. They often need professional services from unity to augment more in a smaller scale team that may have internally to build what it is they want hence engage with us on unprofessional service. And i see a lot more of that going forward from this company where they're looking at lots of different kinds of customers who are trying to create three d. experiences. You know imagine a kia where you go into room in your house. You pick the couch that you want and you can turn your phone around the room to see what that couch and different colors would look like in the actual room. That's the kind of three d- experience that increasingly they're going to have the ability to provide siamese for that. I think it sounds fascinating. What is your next drill down. Let's look at braemar hotels and resorts be. Hr shares fell today but they've gained ninety percent in a year. What's going on with braemar so it was never really looked at Prior to today but an interesting hotel company. I thought it'd be interesting to kind of look at what's going on with a with a post kovic world as in regards to the hotel business. You'll probably know business was hurt. Worse braemar has a about a billion four enterprise value with about forty million that in stock of us in debt. of course it is a hotel rate and so This of all the reeds. All the hotel rates these guys have just the fanciest properties the highest average revenue peru. They've got ritz. Carlton they've got resorts and saint thomas in napa valley in sarasota torrey pines golf course in san diego They came out with an update today with Saying that they were fifty seven percent full of occupancy. In september their average daily rate isaac three hundred thirty three dollars and their their revenue. The ref power the revenue per available room. One hundred eighty eight bucks. Now that reflects an increase of a lot over last year but lower than two thousand nineteen so it's one hundred sixty seven percent of her last year but twenty one percent below two thousand eighteen september. There's still a month away from rewarding results but This shows You know that that increase in earier basis really as board. It sounds good but it just isn't. They had come out only a few weeks ago saying that they were just doing fantastically well that they were doing.
