"Know I don't know but with the the is better to be agreed with mariota's so he has somebody in front of him that he can come around and make some blocks and make some plays some yeah I'd be exciting. I think i said it before you put just a couple of plays like that short yard situations. They don't even have to be goal line. They could just third and once in the middle of the field you put you put a couple. Plays like that on tape now. Defensive coordinators are having a car it up all the different options and things like that. It wastes so much practice time. Got my kid away so much frankenstein. So it's worth it just for that and then also because marcus mariota. he's You're you're texting me like a lot this this summer in your like multiple times i remember you saying like mark. Martin marietta is a would you. Would you call him like he wants to. Get into the yeah. Yeah he's bad. He just tough bro like to dive and give his whole body just to get in there so even like if you give him the ball down there i i think there's a chance that he's tried. It highs hardest to get to that corner at score. So that's why. I think like putting the pin pool. Qb sweep in there. I think is would be super smart. If they're gonna use him down there. But i don't know i don't know how much gruden's get a do it. You know i don't know you know. Especially if he doesn't work which means how stubborn is with it. You know what i mean. He he does try. who knows. We'll see we'll see. They say they have a package for it. I don't know like like what are they. See in practice to kind of get into that package. But yeah i mean we will see you'll see I do remember like when win taped online. I started one of the things. Talks about was marcus. Mariota is is a great backup. Because he's just gonna be like let's play ball if he's going to go in there and in you know and saw out there and it's a great changeup of because of the athleticism right then he brings at least like the straight line speed. They they he can get up to. You know that that change is really changes the way you play defense when you go against play like that and and then when you see him. Some of the plays as Throughout his entire career where he's like really putting his body on the line for his team. I think that's great backup to have And yeah it would be cool to see a package of place for him you know. Specifically for him to kinda highlighted highlight him a little bit. And then you know Maybe even down the line that adds some to some value in the raiders. Get some good for marcus. Mariota in yourself. I think it's a win win win win win for everyone. I agree iran Anything else talk about. And i think we've covered a lot of the stuff in the beginning of the show. You know I think he talked to all the transactions. Mutual you'd love me. No that's unamused got signed seattle. That's that's okay dressing very good. Very good sir I wished enemies the best But since he never actually played an actual regular season game for the raiders. Yeah i don't know if it really counts as raider vessel. Yeah that's true. Some people have ten m used jerseys. That's sad of sorry. I'm sorry if you're tanneries fan. I've seen some ten On twitter beds embarrassing. That's why i'll have the Tim brown jersey. Charles woodson jersey does the jerseys. I have okay. We're talking about our fame players. All right don't be grabbing in jersey of a draft. Pick of gay. Who knows what's going to happen to these guys. Asi at third round hybrid specialties guy. Special teams war daddy. The writing was on the wall the writing on the wall because he's not big enough. Play sam linebacker Nfl he's not he's not but it is interesting The same system so it's like sweet. Yeah they play a Under junior. Yeah that's true. He went to the same exact system. But i i think that he's gonna be like backup middle linebacker plus a lot of the allow jazz sized guys like cody. Barton's over there. He's like almost like five eleven. He's barely six feet tall pretty burning. Yeah there was a there was like a little mike depp. Where eric cloudy pardoning k. j. right. We're talking in like clint barton. Looks sto short necks. Kate right but Yeah so. I mean yeah. We'll see we'll see. It's it's definitely interesting. Which tami's best. I know that people riled up about that anything else. That raises The foreign thirteen when prediction. No no foreign the three in fourteen. You really think like the giants are gonna stop them. I got the nfc. Eat the plane the east this year. Go guys yeah. We'll see we'll see. I was a Jones yet my only issue related with the whole thing is how much credit the gift like the broncos or even the chargers like i not seeing I don't know. I i watch dignity. I watch more charters than those guys have. Okay so i just don't understand why some of these other teams in the division gets so much credit you know i really don't get. The chargers is justin harvard. That's why the charges have high because everybody thinks just herbert's about delight. Be the next elite quarterback in the nfl. So they major hype. I mean is same thing. Calamari got going into his second year. They super hyped up column raise. Mvp he's got the idea hopkins now that a died just hyping up a first round pick. That played halfway note. He played well he played really well For the rookie year. So but you know. I have my. I have my thoughts about just harbor but you know. Where can we find your thoughts on justin. Herbert my my podcast. My little pocket were and i went over every soon quarterback nfl. so i just a herbert. he's album. I'm interested to see a second year. I'm interested to.

"Two cups. I i gotta saw that covered. You know so. I'm not too surprised. They moved on from him. It was a bad pick from the beginning in my opinion. So since i didn't get out i'm not too shocked by it. I'm not too upset about it. But i can see how other people are but i would make. Are they gonna make a big deal. Like everybody you know given up on henry rugs already. It's weird like one prisoner article that no. He had no impact on the team. Lashing sticking i mean. Do they be cheese him rex. No it again. So anyone who says that hindered rugs didn't have impact. They're just talking about their fantasy team. Not having impact but hang that's all that's all they looking at like. Oh he didn't have thousand yards. He sucks you know like that's all they think about som- Jon gruden and his injury the day. He said he said Pf would give a cliff branch. A bunch of stuff xueliang fifty catches. Yeah right a season right exactly is the right anyway. so that's funny or No i mean denzil pyramid. It's a was actually interesting. He was listed as the starter and middle linebacker. Yeah over over. Nakao st in the district is that right. Yeah it is it or it. Says ten permanent. Nick so i mean i haven't been slow payment clips. I wasn't like super oppress. But if they're saying that he's going to be started than i gotta show origination way what he's all about so Based off like the next week performance. We'll see If i need to like you know do a deep dive on on him and talk to talk about government. But a great run blair. That's about it. Yeah that's a that's all that's all i got Want so what would you have. Rested broke heartless. Get into his. Marcus mariota so brigadier go over marcus mariota red zone history all right so you know. It's a big thing right marks smearing the red zone using in the red zone so simple right so it's such a you know he can right so let's season in the red zone right. It's not always as simple. Really get into what he does. Well ran the football inside the red zone and some of the things he does it all right so i think i right. We're talking about huby sweep. So he comes from mike malarkey. Two thousand sixteen two thousand seventeen exotic smashmouth powerful ball. So what they like to do in the red zone was get him on the outside because mariota he's not really a a guy who's gonna shake you shake you break you type of guy. He is more. I have to have a lead blocker and use my speed and re blocks to get around the corner. And i think that's kind of the issue when it comes to him in the red zone that he's not a inside zone re type of guy where i'm reading the defensive amri does it really well. He needs a leib locker. Freiherr so either has to be read or it has to be some kind of qb pimple sweep type of thing rehab. Some blockers in front of him and he's able to you know they're able to get a the second level he can make his read and just go right. He does not worry about breaking tackles bird about reading anything he is just going and i think that's kind of where he has to be because if you get him into the inside zone run game. And even in the raiders game. He was eaten up that right but sometimes he made garang decision. A couple of times and i game So and you saw right there. I mean if he walks in british win. Everybody's excited you know he. He's getting all this height he might be on a new team right now. Who knows what happens if you mix the rice. Inner so know my crazy on that play. I was trying to figure out. Like when i was watching it. I felt like maybe i was being a little too picky. But i've watched. I've watched that player. That's that's isaac rochelle of wash. That player like last like three years because charges have been watching their defense. There's no no game. would he have run down. Marcus meriden not very athletic. In fact he plays both defensive tackle and defensive and he's like a big defensive end the used to stop the run. Marcus mariota is running that. God guaranteed so okay so if it was like lieutenant boso or you know obviously joy bozo like give their you know like. Don't don't get your head cut off by joey bosa but You know he he and that's just that that would just come with you. Know i guess if you're the starter like this is a package failure. You're gonna look at these two federal grants and you're going to have an idea which ones you can outrun. So when you're when you're in that situation you see like oh ninety eight. I got this guy. let me get. Let me get on right here. and so a lot of these things are predetermined pre-snap which is why like lamar jackson. It looks like the fastest decisions in fact is options. Like he's already knows in his mind before the ball snapped where he's gonna do. Yeah you know that's why it looks like it's such a fast you know. Read option or whatever like he's not reading he's like that guy. I can outrun them by and he's out. Yeah yeah you know. Some marcus mariota. He's special special. He's obviously incredibly incredibly special but it is like the greatest option attack ever in history of football but yeah because he's awesome at the mets point he. He's so good point though. Good in have have a defense overcommit and he'll pull it and he's right by him but anyway yeah we'll talk about. We're going to talk about it. We're gonna we're gonna talk a lot about again talk about but yeah But yeah that's i think. The difference with him is like intensity they naming ran insides out. You know they didn't run the inside zone. Read rarely rare. And i think that's part of the reason that he's better getting out on that sideline raise able to you know build momentum and get outside so that's why. I think that he'll do a lot better there. I love the. I love our greet especially like delaney walker. He was like putting shoulders in some cats. Like i love laney walker only enter fan of his of his play so that was actually equal to see what i really love about. The arc read is you. Can you know do that. A little bit and say lay stuff off of it so easily. You got that safety coming down to the forest player fan right up with brian visit. There's like this is serious football. We're talking about you. Got the art breed and then you know the pop pass built on top of it. You can do it. I think that there's more things that you can do that. So so yeah that'd be awesome to see but i don't think you probably this already. That's not really in drug. Rinse playbook is it. Now he'd have to. He'd have to adjust Everything but. I don't know i don't i don't know i mean how much the arc read in his playbook. I mean maybe that's something he always had in his back pocket for mariota. Because i mean that is something that he really does well. Zone read does anri yet. Yeah the arc. Rita arc read is Is something that he's done really well but gruden never really ran back because he runs inside zone. Read with car to You know you just never He's kept it a couple times but he does run it they run it it just you.
Did Washington Do Enough to Push Dallas in the NFC?
"Did washington football teams teamers and the giants do enough to push dallas in the nfc. So i left philly out. I don't yeah. I just don't i am found anyone who really thinks they're going to be competitive. I mean let's wait and see got jalen whatever. But that's a team that they're not really fun to talk about. Because their free agency considered like stripping you know but i mean they did sign at harris for like nothing which is probably better sightings but what you have in jalen also you serianni. Yes hundred percent but washington in york both very active and did interesting. Things i think are worth discussing because dallas after the dak prescott deal was finally done. They've kind of made a few moves around the margins adding kia neil. Getting tied as kind of swing. Tackle still have question marks at adra sure and coroner but washington like i think they might have had my favorite free agency or at least the one that i'm most excited to see. I don't know payoff on the field. So just to recap. They signed the aforementioned ryan fitzpatrick one year. Ten million dollars. They tag branch eff. Who's there Pro bowler guard. They signed william jackson from the bengals. Cornerback three years. Forty two million dollars and then added panthers wide receiver. Curtis samuel for three years thirty four point five million dollars so just starting like let's start here. Do you agree with me like do you. Do you like what they did. And do you think it makes them an actual competitor in the division. A really like what. Washington did You know. I think among the guys among the quarterback that they could get because not only were they never in it for russell wilson or or wherever really going to be competitive for shawn watson You had to start looking okay. We'll what's realistic. And it's the ryan fitzpatrick coming off his best his career. It's an andy dalton and whereas that really gonna lead you I think that there was a lot of interest in marcus. Mariota he still is not able to sign with another team because the raiders are still holding him hostage But so. I like the quarterback. Move because you're essentially saying let's build up the team the and let's have the strongest team possible around the quarterback position where we don't sell out just because we have to for that position free agency. Maybe they make a move at the draft for a guy that they have their eye on. Or maybe they just say let's. Let's keep the boat floating this year and let's make our move Next free agency. So i thought that they probably overpaid by million or two on curtis samuel. But they wanted him And and ron rivera really likes them. Obviously william jackson an incredible deal You look around and you need another pass rusher and they can they can probably keep ryan kerrigan as a third down specialist if he comes down off his number end so you know he's he's still doing that. He's gonna get paid a whole lot of money. I'm not sure that that money is really out there especially at this point in free agency so they didn't want to mortgage their future for for quarterback right. Now they wanted to keep the boat afloat. I that and so. I like what they have done. Specially on evens. Then when you consider the the sort of offense and the pre-snap that they can have with all those offensive playmakers. Now that curtis annuals there with terry corn. I really like with done.
The Patriots Quarterback Carousel
"To talk with the quarterback Carousel though. The latest Derek card may be on the trading block maybe on the market. Maybe not on the market. But what are your feelings? I think we're both in agreement that the starting price of two first-round picks is absolutely insane, but just in terms of him as a player. Where are you on Derek Carr? Yeah. I I think that all just start first with the overarching, you know, I think you're going to see a lot of teams put borderline quarterbacks on the market right now. I think you'll see what Jimmy Garoppolo I think you might see with Kirk Cousins those sorts of situations. It's just because teams saw the return for Matthew Stafford and they're thinking when I want some of that right? It's like what's going on in stock market gets hot. So everybody wants in on it. I don't know how like not every quarterback that gets put on the trade block in the next month is going to be traded and I think cars the first of a handful so I'm not going to like over-hyped that as four cars a player. I mean a nice piece, you know, I I'm not overly excited. You're right. The two first-round picks is too much where I look at this in relation to the Patriots we talked about this on Tuesday is 4 a.m. To get a guy like Jimmy Garoppolo there has to be a trickle-down effect, right? So maybe San Francisco likes car and then they get car and then should be dropping becomes available something like that, but I'm not you know going to do jumping jacks and say the offseason is saved because the Raiders are thinking about trading car, right and I think the biggest thing with these asking price is is that it's nice to ask for two first-round picks your job. Actually get two first-round picks for Derek Carr and even old PlayStation. I can ask you for $500 for it doesn't mean it's going to happen. Right and the other days you want to I mean the offer stands but no no, I'm good. But then the other thing is is that you have a trickle-down effect that you mentioned of the Raiders are not out there actively seeking a trade for Derrick Car unless they can upgrade at the quarterback position themselves. So maybe they feel and I think the report that was out there was that they were going to try to take whatever they get from Derek Carr and package their own pics together to make a move for Deshaun Watson, but if they don't feel like that other shoe was going to drop that you don't just trade Derrick Cartwright. Nothing left, you know with leave yourself empty-handed and now they do but actually it's interesting. You said that cuz you're a big Marcus Mariota guy. I never thought he obviously had his moments. You don't think they trade Derrick car for you know, if you can get to First for Derek Carr if you think Mariota is only a marginal decrease in those two first-round picks will help you out. More than that gap between card Mariota like you don't think they might look to just do that. I wouldn't but you being as high as Mariota on as high on Marietta as you are I'm a little interested that you're not going to flirt with that possibility as well. I would if you have a team comes in and offers the Raiders a Godfather offer for Derek Carr and they do offer multiple first or multiple Hai pics then maybe you could talk yourself in terms of replacing car and like you said, it's not that big of a drop off from one to the other and and you can have that conversation. But I think with Mariota in card me to me, it looks a lot like what Mario dealt with with Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee a few years ago where Mariota because of his pedigree because of his history with the club was the starter to start the season. It didn't go. Well they make the switch to Red Hill and the following offseason is when they decide to move on from Marcus Mariota, so I actually feel like the Raiders and and the Patriots, you know as a domino effect, or maybe one year too early on this dead. Our conversation may be we're having this conversation next to offseason when Marcus Mariota unseats Derek Carr has the starter and if if not, when if okay fair enough. Marcus Mariota unseat Sarah car,

"Good morning, Shane. Hey, Good morning Kiss. Hide them Good. What's up? I won't be much of a home or anything, but I think you missed the tape on Mars, Marcus Mariota. You know, Marcus marry OTA and boy did he play? Well? The other night was I impressed with him, Right? How about that? I thought he played great. And he played with great heart. You know which I thought was. You know when you're in that situation, and you're in the game, the way he was, and Not expecting to play. You know, he left his heart on the field. And when a pro player does that, I'm always really impressed. Yeah, I guess you could say that about Marcus. Mario did to some degree, but I don't like Marcus. Mario did to me. He did not have the president. The presence Trevor Laurence has no agreed. Agreed that you guys He hasn't really excelled. Maybe the way that people thought he was going to in the NFL, but I think electrifying he was in college. Oh, no question, And there's a lot of guys, um, that were elected. I mean, look at Lamar Jackson, who ended up going 32nd last pick in the first round. I don't remember very many. More electrifying. In college than Lemar Jackson s O That often doesn't translate, although we all admit In watching football that the college game has Influence the pro game or at this time in our lives than in any previous time because the pro game has gone much more run pass option. And it has gone much more into the flat with quarterbacks who can make plays with their feet, even if they're not running quarterbacks now, Lamar Jackson is so he's not the example. But Guys that can make plays with their feet. And every once in a while, make a play out of nothing, even if it's twice again. Are really critical now, you know, And that's why in watching Herbert last week, and I have to admit because I've been on the air every day recently. I have watched so much football. I all I do is watch football. I find myself You know, just completely locked into football. I saw everything this weekend that there was to see from Thursday night on. So watching Herbert, Um Just don't know that he has the foot speed or the Ability to extend plays for today's his his releases. So Peyton Manning like that he can get away with it, and his accuracy has improved a lot already in the years since college so he may be able to be the exception. But that style quarterback which used to be the style quarterback is now taking a sort of a back seat to the, um more mobile more. I'll take what I can get quarterback. Andre. Those guys are proving invaluable. And you know, we're so Jalen hurts yesterday in a loss really open some people's eyes about his potential future playing in this league the way he with his style of play..

"No, no, it was great. The big story of the big story is that They're popping is growing like Jeff George did one year, the What year was it? Nineties? Seven. Maybe not 98 John's first year they went through so many quarterbacks at a groin injury, including the Great Jeff George, or an interesting way of Pronouncing the word growing. He had a little he's from Broad Ripple High school in Indianapolis, but he sounded like it's from the deep South. When he said, Goran, you get online anyway, Derek, that was that was a bad injury. Just looked like he was gonna make it in the end zone. He was trying to clear Whitney out of there. Buddy. He popped the groin. Marcus Mariota played Lot as well as I've seen him play. Got Chris Babcock, who is positively prescient. Texted may way before the game the middle of the afternoon, right after our show. And asked, Would you give up a third round pick for Marcus Mariota? And I didn't respond because I haven't seen him in a while. And I wanted to do a lot of work out an answer that question. I mean, he does make you see the highest paid back up in the league to your 17 mill. Wow, that's a lot. Including 10 next year. 10 Million option next year. Yes, so that I mean, they're not gonna trade him And I'm gonna take that sour. He'd be a starter's the question. Um He threw the ball well, that dead dead shot down the sideline, a deer and wall. There was big time. That was one of the best throws I've seen. You made a lot of great throws, but he he's still you know how much does he practice with the ones he still Their first reads. Not there. He's gone. He's out the gate. He runs along 88. He ran for 88 yards last night in the touchdown, and he's tough. He jumped right over the pile. I think the big moment of the game Is They got a first and goal on the four yard line, and you could not get that in. And then, uh, Rochelle makes that great play on the Passed in the right flat and then Justin Herbert is just a transcendent talent. Geez, I mean, honestly, I know you got your big n ba G m pole. If you were to pull NFL G M's right now who, if you hadn't started franchise and one guy And it's certain problem. You know, there's some defense of players and watching Joey play again last night and he was out in crunch time. But Boy, you just forget I'll go to the player Nick Bo says that his brother is really great player. But, you know, take away Aaron Donald to the world, maybe get some votes for him. But just quarterbacks. If you were to start a franchise that any one player in the NFL it be, Mahomes probably number one because he's been there done that. But it may be a close second or certainly the second place finisher, the Justin Herbert. Tell me where he's got a weakness. I don't see anything that he's not good at. Except occasionally the pass rush. But that you know when he when he When he And the boot game after Mario made a great play on Chris Harris, Junior to run him down. I thought it was gonna be a pick six. Yeah, and the charges were poised to score there. That's not his fault. But you run a stretch left boot, right and you've got pressure right in his face. How could he run away from that? A little better just to take a sack. There was a really bad play. And Anthony Lynn's game management is just so wretched all your little too late to call a time out. I mean, last night was one of his better guy. I've seen him wreck first halfs and games. Just terrible. He's not getting any better. I mean, he's got to study. You know, he's gonna get fired at the end of the year, and he has to figure out how to do that. He's gonna be lifetime assistant coach. Just not good. Um, but you know, he didn't quick way to 20 seconds to call the time out. At that point, Don't call it What you're trying to do with those timeouts is conserved 42nd intervals, not 22nd intervals turned out fine. They won the game. But that was terrible. But I would you have had badly try that 51 yarder. After he missed the earlier one. You're giving it right back to them on the 41 yard line. That was crazy, then the way the raid I thought the Raiders sandal the end of the game fine and It wasn't a lane Kiffin lining up for a 76 yard field goal. But you did you 55 65 yards or it's indoors. I guess it a legion. But anyway, I was a hell of a good football game. And then you know, Herbert makes that throw with pressure right in his face, and Troy Aikman come on. It was not under thrown me get couldn't believe it. You said if you would have put it out there would have been touched down. Where did you want to put it right in his hands. He did after you did slow down a little bit. But he got pressure right in his face, and he was not prepared to throw that deep shot. I think he saw it a little bit late. But how many guys have the arm strength to get it there and take that shot and then so great, you know, first time in Vegas is the L. A Chargers at the Las Vegas Raiders. The whole thing is just weird. And what does it come down?.
Raiders lose QB Carr, fall in overtime to Chargers, Herbert
"And chargers from last night chargers rookie justin herbert having himself a seasoning looked. Great again is quarterback sneak in overtime helped. The chargers win the raiders however their woes continued they lost derek carr early on replaced by marcus. Mariota was nice to see him in there. You look good look. Good enough raiders. Lose again it's four of five now in the loss column for them with their playoff hopes. All but dead coach. Genie is joining the conversation this morning. Good coach good morning but nick. I want to start with you. This raiders started six and three. They your chiefs. They were rolling what happened. How did this team fall apart. One second just very quickly. I'm happy for marcus. mariota chance. I thought he played well. I in came. Maybe gets an opportunity to compete for a starting quarterback job. It's always conducted himself well in this league and obviously didn't work out in tennessee. So i'm happy for him. Now to the raiders. Nobody likes somebody to say. I told you so. But i told you so. Everyone's like oh nick right and such a hater oh after they lost to the chiefs game on dvd. And everyone. everyone's congratulating the raiders though. They're dangerous they're scary. Oh they've given the chiefs try. They beat them once second done. And what i tell you. They're going to be the best team to miss. The i might be wrong about that. Not even sure. They're better than the vikings so they're going to be one of the best teams to miss the playoffs coach. They have a fancy new stadium in vegas. They haven't read. What fans there next year when fanshawe do you think they'll have one banner for beating the chiefs or two banners for beating the chiefs and almost beating the chiefs a second time as those are the two best moments of the gruden era. I'm not sure because this team has been terrible. Since they played the chiefs the second time some would say the chiefs still their soul. I don't know. I wouldn't go that far but i know their defense stinks their quarterback. Okay and jon. Gruden falls apart in the second half a season. These are things i know. And some of sought coming other people thought. Irina haters happened to the raiders. And do i take joy in the raiders failures. Yeah i do actually quite a bit. Where's that victory now. how about that. Where's your victory lap. Now remember that moment of arrowhead that your

Marcus Mariota threw for 226 yards of touchdown in the year one on the ground in relief of Derek Carr, who left the game. With a uh oh, I growing injury will call it right. They said it's serious, too. Yeah. Look, I take him out for the rest of the year. I mean, that's kind of thing that doesn't come right back real quick and no push off. I mean, backpedaling would be really hard to get stuff. Well, that helps the Dolphins a little bit that the Raiders get beat, so I don't know. "In motion from left to right. Here's the snap. Herbert diving again and he is in touchdown. Chargers Justin Herbert dives into the end zone and the Chargers have won the game on a one yard touchdown run first time all year. They've won back to back games, but I think bigger picture more impressively First Division win in 10 tries For the Chargers and wraps up a three game skid against the Raiders to for the Raiders disappointment all around. I know they didn't have any Henry rugs and I know they were down. Ah, couple of defensive players for actually, I think I know that they lost their car in the first quarter, but Marcus Mariota played well enough for them to win and it's been the same situation as it was last year. For the Raiders, Oakland or Vegas. They both started out hot kind of fizzled toward the end. They've had a lot of challenges of covert, like most teams have they've been hit pretty hard and to not have Derek are out. There was a huge blow, but there's something bigger. They got to be able to go to capitalize when they've got the opportunities and they start off with that. Well, they start off kind of they're serving notice to the NFL when they beat the Chiefs. And they were competitive in the second game against Kansas City just have had a few games in which you can tell they're not quite very it. They're not to the point where they're ready to be a contender, so they fall back into 77. They're not completely eliminated, but but they're on the cusp of that's going to be almost Was impossible, but it's very unlikely they'd make the playoffs. Their losses this year have come against the Patriots. They got shellacked. They lose to the bills in what was a close game that one took place in Las Vegas. They also got hammered by the Buccaneers and The game against the Falcons is the one that I keep thinking about where they just were never really in it on their defense was was abysmal. And so it's been a glaring disaster for them a good portion of this gay or the season. Excuse me, but now here, they said after losing for their last five, and they're now On the cusp of elimination, which is not where they wanted to be. So there's AH, there's disappointment for the Raiders in their first year in Vegas, but the case of the Chargers they finish strong. I can't help but wonder. Are they going to save Anthony Len's job? They would have a few more wins. In my opinion, if not for the decisions that have been made by the coaching staff and some of these close and late situations, But The movie hasn't been made yet. To will say it is cool to finish up strong, though for a franchise for the players in the locker room because it gives him a lot of hope for what's to come. And as I say, Justin Herbert, At least that's the revelation for the Chargers..
Raiders lose QB Carr, fall in overtime to Chargers, Herbert
"Justin Herbert plunged into the end zone in overtime to give the Chargers a thirty twenty seven victory over the raiders Las Vegas kick the field goal with about three and a half minutes showing on the clock in T. before Herbert set up the winning score with a fifty three yard throw to Jaylen Guyton Herbert was twenty two of thirty two for three hundred fourteen yards two touchdowns and no interceptions to help Los Angeles end a ten game losing streak against AFC west opponents raiders backup Marcus Mariota accounted for three hundred fourteen yards and two touchdowns after Derek Carr left in the first quarter with a groin injury Mariota pass for two hundred and twenty six yards and a TD and ran nine times for eighty eight yards I'm Dave very
Jaguars ship Nick Foles to Bears, one year after signing him to $88m deal
"Radio Brady of course not the only quarterback who's on the move this week Evers teddy Bridgewater Marcus Mariota and now Nick Foles balls is heading to Chicago the bears pulling off a trade with Jacksonville Chicago gives up a compensatory fourth round pick in return for getting Nick Foles so what happens now in Chicago here's our Mike Tannenbaum and feel gates there's a restart because in in our last show we had a debate about whether we think this is Nick Foles job immediately or whether we think this is competition to pursue the starting job and he admits will battle it out during offseason workouts if we have them and then eventually during training camp if that goes on as scheduled I look at it like this the bears were settling if they stuck surface did that with Mitch Trubisky yep the rosters to well fortified in too many spots and there were too many obvious concerns and trade you're right right pace may forever have to live with the idea that he took Mitch Trubisky ten slots ahead of Patrick Mahomes and deshaun Watson we get and traded up one of the first round pick to move up one slot to get him really I'm just gonna put but it's over it's done with that I've been two thousand and seventeen fun ways to win football games and salvage I mean it and we talk about this during lunch again the like you know Matt Ryan pays to be feeling the heat a little bit right now right he knows he's got to win this year and this division is not a cake walk you've got a good Vikings team made the playoffs last year an actual Packers team within its energy efficient game last year this is not an all in move but this is a movie you have to make to put yourself back in the mix to be competitive and allow yourself to playing January football Soldier Field again they had to make so I had to make a move etrade you said what is it on the play calling which basically was a three year starter they had one winning season when I was at the Dauphin two years ago were playing against him we want him to throw the ball down the field to the left he couldn't do that he he was thirtieth in the league in average yards per attempt that's a critical statistic that compresses the field and the other thing about Ryan pace the fields point which is your locker room keeps your general manager there is a check and balance they have a championship defense to Ryan pace's credit he could walk into that locker so he felt we could go win with Mitch Trubisky after we have three years of a sample set now you walk and say Hey this guy's won a Super Bowl we have a real chance now it injects energy into that whole program it also has three years left on the contract with twenty one million guaranteed the falls also has the ability now to avoid the deal after either of the first two years in Chicago depending on his

Tua Tagovailoa's Recovery Shakes Up the NFL Draft
"Time last year to ten goodbye. Loa was the consensus number one overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft but when a devastating hip injury in November ended his season at Alabama his NFL future was cast into doubt now with new reports. That too is recovery is on track. Teams are debating whether his elite talent is worth the risk and the entire draft. Looks like mystery? I mean at times? It's Tuesday February. Eighteenth this is espn daily presented by ADT. Todd Todd mcshay is an NFL draft in college football analyst for ESPN so todd. The last time we saw Tunga Velo on a football field. He was getting started off with a hip injury and it ended his season and Alabama title hopes along with it. News broke last week regarding the status of his recovery. What we know now well first of all I was there that day and it was brutal to watch behind. He's down to us. Down Helmet came off. This is exactly what you did not want to see happen and I was probably ten. Maybe twenty yards away from him as the to. Mississippi state defenders converged on him. And you could just tell right away. Something was wrong but then I saw the bloody nose at first and they said the trainers got. The plastic wraps in there has the gloves on their hands and and I just thought all right. They're they're just taking care of his nose and he'll be done for the day and then he went to stand up and you could tell just how deep his knee drove his leg into his hip that something was seriously wrong so it's good to hear that he has passed his first test. If you will sources confirm to ESPN at the most recent tests show is healing well and has good range of motion to what could get back to football activities in a month if he continues to progress well and is now moving onto the second phase of of the Rehab and recovery stage. There's still a lot left to determine and there's still a lot of rehab to go so that's going to be the biggest thing in terms of his evaluation between now and late. April's draft is where is he? And what are the doctors really? Think about the long-term WanNa talk to you about his injury and the draft. And you know the time line for all of that but I I wanNA talk to you. About what a good football player he is because prior to that injury he was the base star in college football. And you've been watching him for a long time wind it I strike you. This guy's got this stuff how `bout that throw in the national championship talk. He had never started a game and now he's in the National Championship with the game on the line he was coming off of a bad play was able to shake it off. He's keeping his is down the middle of the field and he's working that safety just a little bit to the right. He's trying to move the safety as much as he can because if he does. He knows that he has Smith's breaking down the sidelines. The is move the safety just enough for him to go back to Smith and make the throw of the year. I mean he just knew the spot that he had to get it to and to come in the second half and to have the confidence to lead Alabama to a victory. That kind of told me everything about him. And from that point he kept developing. But if you go back and just really study his tape the things that make him special his deep accuracy is as good as you're gonNA say he's so quick twitch he's like a drew brees from the left handed side you know just how how works in the pocket and goes from one read to the next but keeps his is married to his feet. He fits what you want in today's NFL. But is he going to be healthy enough to with that hip recovery to to have that quick twitch nece and and the ability to to move as quickly as he has tie? You're around these players but also these programs. What did you hear about how to? Oh was handling the injury in his rehab process. Everyone loves him. There's a calmness and a poise about him that you rarely see with with college quarterbacks or any college player so. I'd like to leave you with this from one of my favorites McGraw songs. When you get where you're going don't forget turn back around and have the next one in line. Always stay humble and kind so confident but so humble talking. Nfl SCOUTS IN GM's not a negative word about him. He's a special human being and wherever he winds up going. He's going to be the face of the franchise obviously but he's kind of a culture changer if you will and and. I think that's part of the draw in part of his value. It's not just this injury right. He's had other injuries that have caused him to miss time. He broke a finger sprained. A knee injured his quad. The ankles even before all of this. How much of a concern with that? It's a big. It really is a big concern and the problem is if you study the history of it if you look back. I think it's the last ten years or seven quarterbacks that had college injuries there were first round draft picks that all of them have had some varying kind of durability issues in the NFL from Rg. Three to SAM. Bradford Shawn Watson Marcus Mariota Carson wentz Teddy Bridgewater Jake Locker. All of these guys have gone on to have injuries now. They're not always the same injuries. Some guys are are just injury-prone and just knowing. Nfl teams in the amount of time and the amount of studies that they do. Especially at this position. Especially with first round picks. That are going to cost you. When you're talking about quarterbacks in the top ten twenty to thirty five million dollars in guaranteed money they're doing the research on this and they all know this. You know your job over the course of these college football seasons you're not just evaluating these players you're thinking about where they'll be drafted if to ahead gun her at that point in the season where do you think he would have gone. I think he would be the first overall pick. I think if two was healthy Cincinnati would be taking to a number one overall. I really do if he didn't suffer that injury. We would be having a great debate between two a ton of Iowa and Joe Borough but ultimately my guess is that too would probably be the decision at Number One and knowing Cincinnati. They'd probably they do something to maybe move out of that spot. Make a mistake and let Miami or the chargers Carolina come up and get that pick. If I'm being honest he's he's better than Joe Borough and I love Jober but if you tell me these two guys are going to have ten year careers with no injuries. I'm taking two but then I've got a measure. R Joe Borough has been durable. Jost has shown the ability to kind of fight through pain a little bit more and to stay healthy and so. That's really the deciding factor. In my opinion I have to ask you know. Why do you think he's better than borough? I mean rose coming off of arguably the greatest season we've ever seen by college quarterback. What is it about two as game that you prefer? If I knew he was going to be healthy I think he just kind of fits a little bit better in terms of what what the NFL is today. Terms of getting the ball out quickly and being decisive and then also when you take shots down the field. But I I love Joe Borough to if I WAS CINCINNATI. I would take her over to because of the durability issues. Borough is worth the the first overall pick and I think Cincinnati would be making mistake if they didn't take jober tied. You have to take proof your analysis because you're gonNA get clipped saying to us better than Joe Borough and that's GonNa Follow you forever. You've been spending too much time around.
"marcus mariota" Discussed on ESPN Chicago 1000 - WMVP
"More than anything is he's careless with the football hands there is also got bad judgment so he also is bad judgment with regard to the chances that better judgment that still be changed Daniel I'm getting in between are you bringing him back no because Marcus Mariota that's probably the guy that you they will go for listen this is their stock I've said this for two years now I would never change the Khalil Mack deal I would I thought was a good deal okay the moment you made the deal for Khalil Mackey marriages self to mention Mitch alone and I don't care what anybody says because you gave up the draft capital that was necessary to to bring in Khalil and you also gave him a contract that paid him as well as anybody in the league which then gave you very little movement with regard your salary cap so would you said yourself is is Mitch is our guide Mitch is going to be successful and we're gonna make make things work with the way that that that's the best way to make it work it's what the Seattle Seahawks and other teams did with a young quarterback in his first contracts always cost controlled you make hay when when you're in that environment they left themselves with very little wiggle room it just meant that Mitch had to hit right I mean they did it was the deal that they make and and I'm not telling yeah I would do it any different I I I I think it was a good deal that that Ryan pace right these are mutually exclusive conversation should you've made the Khalil Mack deal or should you drafted major pick to Mitch that's a different decision that was already made when you make you know that you can't make the deal in my opinion not make the deal for mac because you're afraid of what you did with with match you know what I'm saying you make the deal for mac because it's the right deal and listen you make the kid work at your job to making work now so you're caught there's no flexibility there so they're not going to in my opinion they're not bringing in a guy like teddy Bridgewater and competing how do you compete they don't play their guys in preseason there's very little time the that anyone gets together my prediction has been for weeks that which comes back he's our starter you bring somebody in like Marcus Mariota navy you get a guy like Andy Dalton or case Keenum or someone like that but signs for eight nine ten million a year to make it three and a half this year whatever it is you bring him in and a guy that you trust more I gas to do what Ryan Tannehill you have to find your Ryan Tannehill if it doesn't work with Mitch next year at some point the defense is still in a winning window who can step in and help you win games away that Ryan Tannehill has but there is there not bringing it you're bringing in somebody in my opinion that takes over the job if a month into the season Mitch isn't working or gets hurt or gets her but I don't I I personally don't believe there's going to be any competition I believe this is Mitch is job they've got way too much invested in him they're gonna work with them they're going to cling to the moments that were good this year they're going to try to talk away and explain away the bad moments so can they have a come to Jesus meeting with Matt Maggie at the end of the year can Ryan pace sit down with Rick gone and health free with this girl okay we cannot have what happened this year happen next year so how do we fix it well it is a lot of things that I've heard you talk about it and I agree with you a hundred percent look the quarterback the quarterback the coach is a coach in that stuff the first thing you gotta do is fix your line you got to make sure that number one you got to make sure that whoever standing behind it has the capacity to function and you have to be able to create an environment where those guys can create space and running game to take some pressure off of your quarterback is so you've got to make sure your offense of line is better next year Matt needs to look at the film of all these games and insults scout in the and look at it and and be honest with himself and and and make some of the it is necessary adjustments and you know like I said be honest would where he made mistakes and don't be defensive and and and do a better job of trying to get the most you can out of your your different players in the positions they play you gotta get a tight end but I did get you're not going think of all and I know you're running short of time to think of this okay this team think of all you've invested in okay you brought in math yep you traded up to draft admit you've paid your most your offense of line and I know they don't account for thirty first which is happening on the online but you've paid them which means you're invested in them now you can move away from them but now you've got a friend it's not like you can just it doesn't cost you anything you did pay them which means these the guys you want it removed up for James Daniels you moved up for David Montgomery you moved up for for Anthony Miller you used to second round pick on Adam shaking you gave Trey Burke a.
Jalen Ramsey: 'Disrespectful' Things, Front Office Led to Jaguars Trade Request
"Strikes jags best the Titans twenty to seven ending a four game skid in the AFC south series in avoiding the franchise's second and restart in four years the rookie QB postgame cabinet cabinet you know is also also experience with these guys and bam bam bam nine tells all getting closer and closer to and the family do it in a home for them has a lot of fun. what do we never thought I'd get this opportunity so now they do have it I got to make the most of it so. we're grateful for it but I know you know. through every have one of my career you know the situation and I may only get one so you got to make the most of it says on trendy now all right so with all eyes on Ramsey who may have played his final game for Jacksonville Menchu the sixth round picks starting his second consecutive game in place of the injured Nick Foles completed twenty of thirty passes two hundred for yours in those two scores chalk up Damien woody as one that is impressed with talk about going to miss a lot of these guys to get into these situations six round pick he's not afraid to swing into the ball in now to get us a big Bob product plan in that in that pack in that water I stay system where he will sling the ball fifty times a game is paying dividends early on in his career certainly is but let's not forget about that Jacksonville defense they sacked Marcus Mariota at nine at times including three by colitis Campbell his coach Doug Marrone eight real strong in the first game they get the Texans you know it's tough he really can't say enough about the consistency of what type of player he is to ten acetate ID has the way he goes about the game you know he's long he's relentless he it's just a great pro and it's it's very difficult to stand up here and you know and saying he had a hell of a move tonight another way that could you know I I never I haven't seen that yeah and back to Ramsey a rip with the Jaguars front office ultimately led to his trade request speaking on the seventeen weeks podcasts he said an upsetting conversation with Jack wars management after Sunday's loss to the Texans was the final push and that led him to seeking a trade earlier this week a source telling ESPN's Josina Anderson that Ramsay expects to be dealt before the Jaguars next game September twenty ninth at Denver Anderson reporting that Kansas city Baltimore Minnesota Oakland Philadelphia and Seattle have made enquiries and almost every team has placed the call so how about when this might get done Adam Schefter earlier on get up Jacksonville is determined to get its. price Jacksonville wants to wants for the guy to I think Jack's was gonna get to ones from old only I don't but I don't think it's gonna be terribly far off and so Jacksonville doesn't feel like it has to move him in told has what it wants and I think that they're not gonna move him into a hole the Jaguars have what they want with that offer comes in this weekend next week all right before the October twenty nine trade deadline will say we will indeed now Ramsey did say some disrespectful things were said on the other end referring to management he did not single out coach Doug Marrone after their disagreement as seen on the sideline in Houston Ramsey was active for Thursday's game against the Titans but might very well be as we mention his
The Jaguars face the Texans in an AFC South showdown
"Right Thursday night football put a pin in it the AFC south showdown between the Tennessee tied tunes one in one after that dispiriting home home loss to the colts now travel to the big chlorine tank Jacksonville to face the Jaguars and Greg. This is a a very interesting match between also the titans this we wanted to in your tain you find it interesting but I'm trying to sell to the greater raider public the titans which they could not have looked better in the second half against the browns on the road got everybody sucked in and then look very much like the old titans and we to which WHO's WHO's the real titans in two thousand nineteen and the jags anytime you this is a caged animal game West Cornered Animal Game Owen to everyone knows your season's season's over in the NFL when you go with the added element caged animal of your cornerback trying to get out of the cage before the game exactly exactly so there you go that way. Greg caged animal game against the Titans team that we really don't know who they are yet. We've seen a ceiling floor. Laura ready and a quarterback in Jacksonville that sort of resembles a you know. A cute furry caged animals to garden. Gardner Menchu looked fine in his first start but this is a perfect match up for Tennessee to get right not only did. They wipe the floor with Jacksonville. If I remember a few times a year ago they're a veteran and secondary who should be able to swarm and kind of swallow this Jaguars offense which was very condensed the week ago. This is just so this such delimited team. They're so thin you know how sometimes Dak Prescott. He's completed eight passes to different receivers in the first half. They've six Jaguars period have caught passes this year they. They don't have a backup running back. Their offensive line is very thin and they were struggling to pick up blitzes. It's just a lot to ask for mint you who I think's doing a good job and their defense offense to carry them. I think when you have the B. Line through both games was that despite some big plays on offense for the titans against the Browns Marcus Mariota. Uh is not a quarterback that propels any offense. He's any seems to hold you back in one in one thing that I find interesting about a team like the titans versus others is that you get Adam Humphreys and you mentioned on Sunday any finishes week to with negative two yards. I thought he was going to be the perfect thing for Marcus Mariota and AJ Brown big game week one really nothing in week two and it says you cannot count on the titans attack week to week outside of. I think you know Henry. Potentially early on the ground has been consistent since last November so one of the better backs in the league they're gonNA need him to be big in this game but I do trust every other element of the titans and in their defense and to me. I'd be surprised if they don't win this by ten points or more there the better all around team. I expected to win but you never know when a Jaguars defense it's perfectly capable of shutting down the Tennessee Titans who are not dynamic on I mean they shut down the Texans the Texans. I think they were touchdown. I believe it was on a very very short field otherwise they did a great job and that was without in Gakugei and boy. I don't know if they're back but they got pressure on Watson and that's two weeks in a row for Watson Awesome but Watson that didn't shut the offense down against New Orleans man she mania. There's the night all right.
"marcus mariota" Discussed on The Bill Barnwell Show
"The only thing I would say is that you think about this defense it was thirty first in DVD last year, I believe there were certainly bad on defense, and they didn't add anybody when they had an Adrian clayborn sherve he's going to be rotation guy, but they made no significant additions to this defense. They basically said, the only reason we were bad on defense was because we're not help. We we're not healthy. And if we're healthier this year we're going to be on defense, and I mean this has been good in the postseason. But it has not been good during the regular season. It's been a bad defense for the last three years. So I think it's you know they're doubling down on the team. They have and they upgraded the offense of line. I think they're eighteen they're going to have to win a bunch of shootouts, and they can they have the offense of talent pull that off by all means, but I could see this being a very frustrating team to watch them blowing a bunch of late games, because they don't have the, the pass rusher don't have the secondary to hold up. So I am I would like to have seen more invested in the defense. But I do think this is a team that I had them. So I'm in the. Ballpark issue I could actually see them being see them in that, you know, it's gonna be competitive in December be- wildcard spot. Actually, the saints declining which could open about division and a lot of different ways. But I just would like to have seen them spent more on the defensive side of the ball this offseason. Absolutely. I have Tennessee at eight, where I look at Tennessee steam, the titans. They were one game away from the postseason last year. And they had to start Blaine gabbert in that game, which is not grant kind of explains why they lost and miss the postseason. But you think about Marcus mariota. This is another offense coordinator for him. Again, who has not call plays? Like you said, when it comes to Carello in Denver guy with Mario, where we don't should we be expecting him to break out at this point. And this is the guy he is guy who's a decent quarterback is gonna plot a couple of games in the fourth quarter, but a guy who has significant -ly struggled to stay healthy. And I don't see a reason changed dramatically. They used their first pick Jeffrey Simmons who is probably going to miss it. Of the season if not the entirety of the season and a talented team. But in a division that could go in any different directions. So I'm I kind of think they're going to be in the same boat. They were a year ago where we're looking at them in December, and they're, they're eight and six or they're seven seven there right in the mix. But I don't know that they had that sort of next year to get to where they can suddenly golden for. Yeah. I agree with you. When we talk we talk about Marcus mariota and his his ability to stay healthy. And when it's going to kind of have his breakout season, I mean, this is your five. If he has a really roken out now. Is that gonna happen? I mean he's his another new coordinator yet. Arthur Smith is been there. I mean, there's some consistency in that it's not. He's not bringing in an entirely new system and all of that kind of stuff that he's had to go through in previous years when they've gone through a coaching change. But I'm just not sure how much more there is for markets mariota. You know, I think it's it's always a little concerning. When the story that you're reading about a guy in may, are about significantly body changes and weight gain. And that was really what we were talking about with Mario, this spring was that he, he knew that he needed to get bigger and gain weight? And hopefully it's functional. Wait, you know he can still kind of do things that make him special. But, but he hasn't gone through stuff that will affect his mechanics, or you know..
"marcus mariota" Discussed on NFL Live
"Then the red zone it's going to be nightmare to defend. He can be the tight end taking off your draft board. All right. Let's continue them with Marcus mariota. We've talked about and many suggested I think it'd be among them that this could be a maker break year. So if that's the case then what qualifies as success now or never right now for Marcus mariota, Wendy? Here's with staying on the field for sixteen games. Although new ofensive Arthur Brown. It's basically the same offense of system that you wearing last year's they're trying to be that period of adopter nation where he's learning where everybody's supposed to be what he's supposed to do. He has to stay on the field for sixteen games in this way. Or to see a quarterback play out of final year of his contract with basically nothing in the way at least I'm aware of, of, of substantial contract talks, and here, we our Marcus, Mario. Ota James swinson also in the same spot, Marcus Mario needs to stay on the field and they have to be more potent in terms of passing production. I understand their different ways to skin the cat and they wanna run the football effectively. But part of the reason why other teams people run the football affectively still be great an offense because there's at least threat in the passing game. There really wasn't much of that in Tennessee last season. Only one playoff appearance in ten seasons. Now it's not all Mukesh Marietta clearly has been there that long, but it's time Lewis it is time for him to get going. I think feel the nil and the head Marxist taking a beating especially early on in his career where they really invested in the line of willing were a ground and pound type of football team. And they were trying to prevent him from those kind of scenes playing out in Tennessee. He does need to stay on the field. They do need to open up this offense. They need do need to have the primer players really developing come through for him. But Marcus first and foremost is gonna have to be smart with his decision making get the ball out of his hands. Not to take too many chances with the health. The body defense has to continue to come along to give him more chances. Meaning get off on third down. So we can have more cracks to really see what he is. So they can decide whether or not they want to invest in long term. And that's the question, right? Going into the last year of his contract. And what do they do long term? And I think they have questions about how he's gonna play otherwise they wouldn't trade it for Ryan tannehill this off season and made him the backup. So they want Marcus mariota step, but we're going to be the kind of player, they hope and think he can be, but it's been so many injuries that he's had to overcome that they don't know whether he can sustain it and stay on the field. It obviously did not come to pass but NFL teams thought Tennessee might be a sleeper quarterback target in the first round. They did not go that way. But I was a team people were wondering, maybe it's time to start investing. Again, step one sixteen games. Ability availability. What sixteen till you have one point..
"marcus mariota" Discussed on The Rich Eisen Show
"Three time Pro Bowl offensive lineman protector of Marcus mariota back here on the rich Eisen show. Get to see you again, sir here. What do you think you new teammate? What do you think of that pick? I mean, you're an offense your guy in the trenches. You must obviously appreciate the pick. Right. Yeah. No. I think it's going to be. I think we be for the team when it comes to the pick. It's hard as a player sit there and say, I want this guy or I want that. Because if I say, oh, I want to receiver will then what is the guys in the room that are already receivers was that say about them. You know what I'm saying? So for me, I try to detach myself from who I want? Yes. And so when they made that pick. I mean, John is an incredible GM Rabl is a great head coach. And he's defensive mind. So I kind of saw a little bit defense coming and it's going to be interesting towards ACL in February. And so I mean who knows how long that takes. And it doesn't matter. You should never talk about other guys injuries. Anyway. Right. But I I mean, I've watched him. I followed him on Instagram immediately washed all of his videos, so because that's what every football player does. Now they post. Author highlights. So that is that is that what you do for new teammate. Is you immediately follow them to follow him? Absolutely. And I've actually been still am in situations where I follow my teammates. And I'll look like I'll get with a year down the road. And let's see if this guys he doesn't follow me. Right. Is a hurt. Yes. As a weird to say absolutely not going to keep doing it. No eat. No question. Right. So what if somebody that you follow on Twitter, and they follow you suddenly on follows you and he tried to any maybe you're going in. And and you try to direct message them and say, hey, phone number that I have for you isn't working anymore. You change your phone, and you didn't text me your new number. How do you read that situation person? Probably secretly hates you. The way I you'd it. When that happened to me with you Taylor. So here's what thing here is my out. And it's going to be terrible happen that happened. I head phones I came here guys. These are these are Bose noise cancelling headphones. So laugh, I can't even hear you keep doing these are also these are also BS cancelling headphones. So be careful with your answer. Okay. So here's my thing as all of us. And I'm looking at all of you. We're all addicted to our phones. Okay. I'm not proud of it. Yes. I am. My phone's open my phone stays open. And I'll go on social media. I have a big day. I got a lot of plans they got so many things to do three hours on the phone, right? And they were getting those things done. Well, when I do those things I'll put it down or I'll put it in my pocket, and I won't close the phone. So maybe I go stuff Thala GIO because why would I ever on following? You've never done. Your are. You saying your ass on followed me, inadvertently, you're saying you're asked my ass. My ass said rich Eisen. Forget about this guy. He's dead to me, man. That makes it worse. I'm going to be very honest with you all my ass. You know? Okay. We're good. Now. We're all good now. I don't know you keep bringing it up. Not sure you're the one who's like first thing. I do is. I follow my teammate. That's perfect segue. And then also, by the way, that also lends credence to all of us in the media when we're like I- person on followed his team, and we view that as an indication of how or she feels about their impending contract situation, and whatever you're sending that really does mean. So I think there's nothing better from a media perspective than blowing up everything on a proportion. I love it. I think I should just keep doing it. Let's get to the news. Segue. John, Chris, Brockman, the Chris Brockman news update with a little one of the titans. Chiming in go forward. Police hit that drop..

"Chris what have you conjured up over there? Russell Wilson got absolutely paid his aid. Is Stuart Scott once told me, I should say. All right. I'm looking ahead now which quarterback would you break the Bank for next Dak Prescott. Shawn Watson, Marcus mariota. Carson Wentz Jared Goff. You didn't even include Mahomes. Well, he's not up yet as only on his coming into his third year. So give me that again that Prescott to Shawn Watson. Yes. Mario Wentz Goff. Those are the next guy's. Okay. That's the next crop of quarter James's eligible as well. I don't think anyone see paying. I don't know. I think people would might pay for James more than than mariota. Even though I declared that. That argument over why they we need to see what James looks like this year. I think so remove Marcus Marcus is gonna win this poll just remove him got it. So we get the whole Winston mariota thing off the tail off the plate there. Okay. Interesting next in line. Okay. So let's dig into this, shall we the number of people that I see on the social media tubes. That do not think Russell Wilson deserves this money or the title of. Best player in the National Football League. I've lost track. And I I'm left scratching my head twofold one, this is the way it works in the NFL until the system gets changed. Now, there's a collective bargaining agreement conversation coming up soon where we're. The the idea that franchise tags are in the the players association crosshairs. Is is I guess well discussed I don't believe that this is going to be something that they're going to demand to have taken off the table since it affects only the top of the one percent. And and not the the large. Portion of the players community. But we'll see we'll see. And it's it's a tough. It's a tough pill for certain players to swallow. Certainly since the signing of Russell Wilson in the manner in which he's been signed the level of importance is more than just keeping your franchise quarterback. And winning right now it allows the Seahawks to have a franchise tag available for Bobby Wagner, which I'm sure Bobbi won't be too happy about that's when the franchise tag gets slapped on a player not applied. But this is the way it works. This is the way it works. A quarterback is up a quarterback has. A free agency year up. He can be franchise tag. We we saw how Washington did that with Kirk cousins in consecutive years. It just doesn't make sense to do it. Because of how expensive it would be to go year to year, and then maybe even one more here. The amount of money. That is guaranteed to Russell Wilson is one hundred seven million in total guarantees sixty five million dollars signing bonus. Which would be if you put to franchise years back to back. That's a little bit less than that figure for a quarterback. And then the third year for franchise takes about fifty million bucks. It's nuts and this way over the four year one hundred and forty million dollar contract extension. I am sure that John Schneider and the Seahawks have an ability to move things around for salary cap. That's only going to get bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger. So the Seahawks had two choices to make here one. Well, I guess the the third would be the franchise tagging but outside of that they had two choices to make one they start from scratch. They start from scratch in twenty twenty. After Russell says I want out. I'm out of here is a thirty one year old quarterback. They could've franchise tag him in that regard and done that for one more year and had them to age thirty two and then gotten a compensatory pick for him. No ability to draft any higher graft replacement because you're assuming you need somebody in the first round, even though he's proven that. That's different. For him. It's he's a diamond in the rough. And plus you'd be starting again from scratch with a quarterback doesn't make much sense when you've already planned financially to do this. It's his turn. It's he's he's up. That simple. That's why Matthew Stafford got paid the way that he got paid..

"Yes. Hello. How're you doing today? Thank you taking my call. I'm wondering if the titans with Marcus mariota being in his maker break year. If don't take a stance on a t K Metcalf to open. Up the passing game and even open up the running lanes for our Derrick Henry is would be a possibility. It would if he's there the Corey Davis. The he has to keep emerging drafted him at a top ten years ago defensive tackle, Dexter Lawrence. If you don't take the receiver would be the big body in the in the defensive line, which they have had in New England go back to John Robinson's history taking players like that second round, you can get a receiver deebo Samuel was who I think they may look at from South Carolina. There's going to be a host of wide receivers. Like Paris Campbell, Ohio State miles boykin Notre Dame AJ Brown. Ole miss JJ are Sega Whiteside Stanford. The second round is going to be a great round for wide receivers. You could see seven to eight wide receivers going around to Josh and Ohio you're up when he got. Hey, guys. Great show. Always a great show. I could see spam. Trying to figure out which we were going to feel like released all of our players to be go secondary. Obviously we had a good pass roast. But it didn't fare well the end. So maybe we get second where we go. I think you know, the God that I keep dropping them down to the chiefs as greedy Williams that he's not a guy who's an aggressive run support tackling corner, but he can cover you saw. Let's cornerback situation. Looks like take a look at that depth chart center. Elton Jenkins from Mississippi State in round two would be a whole filler there. So yeah, I think the chiefs right now if you look at needs for them going into the draft and say, what do they have to address your cornerback line? The obviously linebacker maybe even a running back at some point. But I getting that corner because it's going to be we're going to have the Andre Baker from Georgia when a little later in the show, the Andre Baker could be there. Okay. Byron Murphy Washington could be there Rocky's in temple. There will be a corner to get into the lake. Twenties. One of a tight to those four could still be there when the chase pick. Let's go one more, and we will go to Spokane Washington. And Nick, ain't it. Hey, how's it going on? So do a question. Do you think the Seahawks all trade out of their first round pick? And then have you? What have you heard on the Doug Baldwin situation? Do you think there's a good chance of him? Retiring this year, you know, I think they moved down at I mentioned Chris Lindstrom's name. Yeah. Is a guard from you. If you if you love them, you take them if you think you could get somebody else at Gardner's, a host of offense of guards in this draft that you can get in the second the fourth round, then you move down. But you'll lose Lindstrom who's a really good player. Plug and play. I think pro bowler Connor McGovern. Penn State is a guy..
Ryan Tannehill traded from Dolphins to Titans, shaking up the QB situation in Tennessee
"Good. And now, we don't know what the plan is. They have finally given up on Ryan tannehill who had seven years to prove that he could be a franchise quarterback. Now, he's out. Ryan Fitzpatrick is in with a two year contract reported base value of eleven million dollars that is peanuts is starting quarterback contracts. Go, but we don't even know whether he's going to be the starting quarterback. He may be the placeholder for whoever they end up within the draft and they had to sign somebody. They had to have somebody who was the plausible starter. So it is an obvious going into the draft that they're going to draft a quarterback because then at number thirteen they're going to get leapfrog by somebody for the quarterback that they want. So smart move to have Fitzpatrick smart move to have a guy who has played. Well. A he gets criticized a lot. But my God early last year he was spectacular. And he's better than whatever other options they had on the roster. So now, they have a bird in the hand. And we'll see what they do on draft. Yeah. That's right. I mean, there wasn't a lot of options out there in free agency wants city Brett teddy Bridgewater said no we knew they weren't going to bring back Ryan tannehill. So to what you're saying. Yes, I think it was a very smart decision to bring guy in like Ryan Fitzpatrick gives them some wiggle room. I mean, they are at number thirteen in the NFL draft certainly can be in prime position to get one of these quarterbacks. Maybe not Kyle Murray. They're gonna have to make moves if they wanna get Kyle Murray and get up to the first second third pick probably. But you know, does it Dwayne Haskins? Does it drew lock? Are. They around a thirteen. I think there's a good chance. I wouldn't have said that a few weeks ago. But I think as I sort through the draft more and more there is a good chance that I think one of those two might be on the board Jacksonville at seven. I don't think they're going to be dropped in a quarterback there this year. It's really about the giants at six right now as the. The team. That's really the obvious team that might be in the quarterback conversation. And I don't think there's any guaranteed. They'll take a quarterback at six. So the dolphins. Yes. You get this because you got a guy. Okay. We got our starting quarterback. Now, they can figure out what they want to do with the quarterback situation going forward into their future. And the thing with the Ryan tannehill deal. Look I thought they were just gonna cut him and they didn't need to keep them around. There's no guaranteed money in his deal as it stood before Friday, but they found somebody who would take him in trade. But that team wanted the dolphins to pay part of his salary. Even though the dolphins were on the hook for nothing guaranteed. So audibly what the dolphins did they dumped Ryan tannehill. And they bought a fourth round pick in twenty twenty five million dollars because they're paying five million dollars of Ryan tannehill new salary of seven million fully guaranteed. The titans. Get a backup quarterback for two million dollars. And Ryan tannehill better than Blaine gabbert, they were gonna play gap pay gabbert a million and a half. Right. I'll pay two million to tannehill. Because if. Pantyhose healthy. He's not horrible. He's actually pretty good can't stay healthy. But you only need to be healthy one or two games in the full year. And think about it if they had a better backup last year. Chris when Marcus mariota missed a couple of games. There are a playoff team. No. Exactly, right, Mike. I'll sit here and say, I'm not so sure Ryan ten hills not better than Marcus mariota. They're very similar. So it makes sense for Tennessee to get a guy like ten and he'll be the backup quarterback. They're both very good athletes who play quarterback. That's what I would say about the two guys. I mean can run they can do the read option the bootlegs play action passes

"When I want to figure out here when I thought it was true are when I thought I had went through. I'm just like it show like they were probably tired of him. And this is what you get for that. You know what I mean? But he just has to be really careful. You know what I mean? I mean tremendous talent on the field. I think his talking has almost overshadowed if for some people disappoint, but you gotta be careful like, Larry FitzGerald Centerman. You have a chance, and I'm not justifying who's right who's wrong. But the caliber of quarterback you're playing for now. And where you can there's not too many of those in the NFL. You know what I mean? So a talented receiver like him goes to a quarterback who's not a throat, or you know, if it just works out that way, it's going to be a harmful because it's also it's Tennessee is on that list. And like really interested. You're not putting up with Marcus mariota. Ben Rothlisberger is. Hall of fame. You want very town to curb is like I said, I'm not justifying who's right who's wrong there. How many quarterbacks do you see coming out of college? Where you say this guy is going to be the great one, right? Everyone thought it was James Winston, Marcus mariota. And everyone said oh my God. The buccaneers have the craziest decision to make Tian's kind of laying low. They're going to pick the leftover of their and the buccaneers pick. James winston. The verdict is still on them on him. The titans. Marcus mariota. He's been nothing special flashback pay in manning and his name is. Slipping me right now who is the other guy there that Ryan leaf Ryan leaf there we go pay manning and Ryan leaf everyone's saying Ryan leaf is a can't miss prospect. This guy is going to light it up in the NFL, people balked, the culture taking paint and manning, look what happened history showed that paying manning was by far the better pick look at Robert Griffin, an Andrew luck. Yes. People said that injury. Luck was going to be phenomenal quarterback, but is easily quarterback any played very well this year. But there is sometimes there were you say well is this ever going to play in the NFL again? Because of the shoulder injury. Robert Griffin lasted one season, basically and has struggled to get back into the starting lineup. There is no guarantee over one person success. There is no guarantee how they're going to do from one season to the next and for me that leads me into this house and sign if the dolphins have shot at a quarterback in this coming draft you pull the? Trigger one hundred percents. If you have a chance Cuyler Murray, if you have a chance as someone like Dwayne Haskins if you have a chance as some like, drew lock if you have a chance and someone like will Greer some are saying east and sick if you have a chance, and you are in love with any of those guys and a there at thirteen when you pick or be they're not going to cost a whole tunnel. That wasn't the Cowboys offense of line coach who who tested the kids on whether they would tap the fifty seven on the back of the Heinz ketchup bottle to get the catch about of the bottle. That was like a big determining factor for him. I think this full of insane story about Marcus mariota making his bed and showing that he was a detail oriented quarterback. That's possible. That's possible. You make your bed every morning. My wife is anal about it like I never would have. I never I don't think before I was with her. I don't think I ever really was Denny. Yeah. I can't leave the house without making it, really. You can't leave the house without making it. Yeah. Really can't leave the house and see I used to I do like a made bed. So like, I there were if Emily's gone with the kids somewhere like sometimes it'll go all day on made. And then I'll make it right before. I get is that make me a little haven't made my bed since I've been like grounded in two thousand five era high school interesting. Would be on hired. Okay. Cord? Some good Broncos coaching search talk their news hit number four. The ravens and coach John Harbaugh are working towards multi year extension. Twenty nineteen is the final year of current deal. The reason why I thought this was interesting was because this has been sort of this. This was moving in October November towards the separation, and however you wanted to wanted to couch firing a mutual parting of ways it looked like, and I can tell you it wasn't just on the outside. It was people in the industry to that felt like that. This was it for John Harbaugh that he had been there for MRs eleventh year, and what I think so interesting about this guys is that like the the owner actually step back from this and looked out at the landscape and was like, wait a minute. Every everybody else wants my guy, and I'm no he's number one on all these teams lists. And i'm. Going to let him go and hire who at that sorta became like reflective of what a lot of teams thought of the coaching market in general. Why think it's moving a little slower than it has in the past. And ultimately, I think it's a weird way. I feel the ravens stumbling like and this is a Suman negotiations don't fall apart. And he doesn't wind up traded to somebody else. But it feels that the ravens are sort of stumbling into the right conclusion. Yeah. I mean, you know, because it was you know, you've been talking about this for weeks that people are keeping an eye on the situation, but you know, the he hadn't signed an extension yet. And so it was that was a big unknown uncertainty sort of hanging over you know, the end of the raven season. But I agree. I mean, if he I guess the question had been if Harwood have wanted to force his way out in some way, which you know, it sounds like as you said if they're making progress toward that. And and things are looking good that, you know, both sides will will stay here. But I agree. I think that the. The market being thin as we've talked about before there not being any clear candidates that influenced some teams, and certainly the ravens viewer there. So you are there on both there there he was in the ravens locks. So what was that?.

Scott Frost debuts at Nebraska against Colorado
"But what do you expect from frost in Nebraska today that really the first game? We all know, we've seen Scott frost. It is different stops. He knows how to coach offense. He's he's gonna make point. He's going to get points. And I think you've seen the running of the quarterbacks got to be part of that mix. I'm very true freshman quarterback. Adrian, Martinez cat is very good. And I think he's got a bright future Kirk. But the one thing I'm looking at with them is how much can you run them because Gabby as soon as he found out that the freshman Martinez was gonna start he transfers. And so are you going to run your quarterback a lot to win ballgames that you need to win? 'cause they're going to need to do that. How much is that balance? How delicate is that's gonna be a challenge for Scott frost? His is is what it is going to have to do it. Big part of what he wants to do. I can't wait to watch the true freshman. I I really think the story could be on the other side of the ball. They're going to win this game. We saw just saw some highlights and the throwbacks in the nineties. It was the defense in those years. They're going to be challenged at home. Today. Steven Montas last week he missed three passes twenty to twenty five and Colorado state. I don't care if it's against the air twenty two or twenty five got some good athletes coming in from the pack twelve they were down last last year. I think they're back. This is this is an opportunity for C you to send a message to everybody that they can play this year in the Pac twelve was impressive completed. His first will get the office. We'll get back to Scott frost impresses me about Scott, the coaches who influenced his life his coaching career. I mean, he was at Stanford Bill wash. It was obviously Nebraska Tom Osborne in the NFL, Bill Belichick. Bill Parcells Mike Tomlin. They don't forget at Oregon chip Kelly. He brings that toughness. But he also brings their creativity on office. You talk about Martinez. He actually compared Martinez. Marcus mariota who was on a playoff team at Oregon. That's a huge compliment to compare him to Mario the Heisman. Scott frost is going to win a boat load of games at Nebraska. But one of them's not going to
In Washington Redskins debut, Adrian Peterson eager to get to work
"Two point how many questions you need to answer, maybe team and go back to the Rams example because it's front and center. Maybe they feel like they were bringing back. Same group. We know how this works. We don't. We don't have those kinds of questions. Whereas Tom Brady got some new receivers. He's trying to break in to mention what they're doing on the offense of wine. So it's very team specific. But as you see these teams start scheduling more of these joint practices, Mike referenced that the patriots haven't had them. They see that in some way as a substitute for that game action in a more controlled one that makes them feel a little better about things. And this key for the patriots receiver specifically because they're letting guys go, they're trying to figure out what they're receiving core is going to look like. And it's important for Tom Brady to build some type of continuity with the right. And is Mike Reese mentioned too about the Panthers determining how long Cam is in there because of injuries on the offense of line. If you can't be moving. Okay. So onto Broncos and Redskins the Broncos had to Washington where the biggest story line could be the debut Redskins running back Adrian Peterson who signed with the team earlier this week as keenum has only completed nine of seventeen passes this preseason entering his game with the Broncos NFL nation, Redskins reporter, John. Time is at FedEx field. So when all the injuries that the Redskins have suffered this preseason, especially running back, what's the game plan for AD playing tonight?
Back in the college game, Chip Kelly focused on winning at UCLA
"Chip Kelly was gone to the different chip Kelly. When he left college. Football is at the top of his game, maybe not a national championship, but he built in Oregon program that was. At best good into a program that was excellent. And the second he likes citing top and very innovative. And then once he left and then Marcus mariota stay for another year for Markelle Fultz another couple years, whatever it was that whole organ thing, just kind of fizzled and they're, they're good. Again. They're not great. They're not, but good unions, the great Younis great facilities on he's a UCLA now piece in ESPN dot com. Talking about him and his approach, and it'll be interesting to see how it goes because I don't think anybody really cares how peculiar he is long as their winning games, but you can only be peculiar if you are winning and he doesn't really go for anything that isn't the film isn't really the players isn't really the game and college football. You have to have a little glad-handing go along with this unless you're just even Nick Sabin glad-handing little bit. I mean, that's one of the issues that lane kiffin had for years is he. I wasn't great around the people that he needed to be great. You know the the raw raw stuff lie the glad-handing, the the important handshakes that you need to make. That's not one lane kiffin does. May I always find it ironic that people would talk about how great he was as a recruiter, which means you're great in a room. I'm willing to believe it, but that also means you're only good in a room with very specific people like once their age extends beyond nineteen, right? You apparently have no social skills and chip Kelly is one of these guys that just seems like he has. He's he's almost like a football Rainman. Yeah, you know what I mean? Like he, he just he's one of these guys. That's a football savant. And in his lane, he's a genius. But if he's six inches outside of either side of the lane, he's just painfully uncomfortable. Yeah, I, I've told the story before when I was living in Houston and working there, they have the Lombardi awards where they bring in people, and there's a coach of your word, and there was a panel of all these guys and they. I mean, Mike Sherman was head coach. Texas a. and m. at the time, Bobby Bowden was there. There was one or two other guys in chip Kelly was there as well. Kevin, someone was there who's at Houston at the time. And all these guys get up and and do a ten minute speech on their program, and they're all great. They're captivating. They'll be room is laughing. Everybody's listening. They're good with their timing on the jokes. They're good with telling the stories, boom, boom, phone, like a comedian. That's got a really tight little said ten minutes in. They're often everybody's throat. And then chip Kelly comes up and it's like things everybody coming out and went and sat back down. Again. It was like, we will. What they lights come on this big banquet room and people start moving towards the coaches. Thanks, autographs, and all this kind of stuff. And Kelly practically ran for the exit and it's like, wow, he must be on this whole time. I thinking you don't good of a football coach. You have to be to to have that be your deal and still people are lining up to give you millions of dollars goat your
