"Kind and we are certainly sensitive to the fact that we are the beneficiaries of a global pandemic where tracks are shuttering their doors. We're not insensitive or tone-deaf to that But the truth is it's been a boon for our track on her and those that are able to stay open and they are exciting times for us but again we try to temper that enthusiasm appropriately. Well and nobody. I've said this exact same thing. I mean it is all tempered. And and there is you know the the undercurrent that keeps keeps things slightly subdued but at the same time to get this kind of exposure and to have the opportunity really for the horsemen and in for the region You know mid American racing during the winter I mean this is. These are meets that that our bread and butter for the people involved. I mean you're you're actually getting some ship INS and you know. We talked about it yesterday with Marcus Hirsch But I gotta say the thing that is going to have a lasting memory and the endearing of of will rogers two-horse players was the three or four hours. Yesterday that proved to be Ultimately a very satisfying outcome and I explained to people this morning. John that I got a question on on twitter yesterday morning. There's a rumor or it. The word is that that they're going to shift this new pick five to a jackpot and you confirmed it later in the morning and then what happened next is I think is going to be part of racing twitter lore. Well go for that and you're right. It.

"We're back we're GONNA take as I said Cut the break. Short and dad gives us about a little under fifteen minutes to talk to Brad Cox and as I said at the top of the show Just one of those situations on Monday. That the any horsemen anybody related to the game Players included just Dreads and Tarez injured and then the decision made that she could not be saved and then everybody has to move forward and get to the afternoon's racing and and hopefully The results in the afternoon lifted. Everybody's spirits that included wells by you running very good second in the southwest and warriors charge with a powerhouse effort As well in the razorback Brad for everybody in the game to Garrett O'Rourke and Judd Organization And you and your staff Just so sorry about. Monday's misfortune. Yeah now is a tough day and You know a lot of you know tax and phone calls and you know People in the horse racing community that You know You know reached out mental. I really really did and You know for For just a short career three races I mean she's definitely established a huge fan base and I felt like I was a big Fan for sure and She's she's never be replaced. She was very special. And you know you just taught me. There's no speculation. I suppose that Is is worthwhile but I very big horse and I don't know as they say the the slow ones don't seem to get hurt As often anyway and I. There's no point in really speculating as to what might have gone wrong but there's anything that the You just you have to as you and I in fact exchange and on Monday you just you had racist to run and horses to take care of you know seconds after this occurred Thing I imagine. Warriors charge in particular his performance and the huge the huge Group from ten strike being there at the lift. Everybody's spirits for sure. I mean you know when obviously after stay focused and You know continue on and And we have a great crew in place you know. Said it was a tough day for everyone but We're able to get through the day and and You know want to get through the race card and it was. It was a good day at the races. Let's put it that way and talk about warriors charge and the the alert. There were a couple of alerts last week for at least for people. Listening to this show. Was Marcus Hirsch. Observing her at observing him at Fairgrounds and saying just how terrific. It looked like he was coming into the race and then we had marshal Graham during the Z. At Marshall was very excited although he couldn't be there There was a lot of indications that that this was going to be the start of what could be a very good Andy CAPP season for warriors charge. Yeah for sure. And that's the goal and you know when he came back last year from college last fall from college surgery he obviously never know how they're gonNA come back and obviously something like that you know we don't deal with that a lot And he he came back and I mean just showed. The brilliance showed in the spring last year maybe even more developed and gotten faster so You would need to facing horses that were moving forward older horses for the first time and he.

Hi Steve pulled it called ride to the Million Day ride to the million is that that's the the branding I'd never. I've never called it that but that's what I'm told oldest actually called. I not exactly sure what it means. I think it means like the first three finishers get their entry fees wave for the great on so. Maybe you like a free ride unless you WANNA ride like you ride or you know raise I mean if you have to explain a tagline and you say well. I can say one thing and you can shoot me down. I if I'm if I'm off here but I don't know if it has anything to do with the announcements and the improved prospect for Racing Illinois in general but it feels like there is a real improved energy at at least just looking at the cards Marcus said I could shoot down not if you want to be polite but no you can't of course you can. I have not really seeing this car is really good. A Big Day seems about quo okay and if you just to briefly touch on that I mean the state government approved for people might not be aware of that now you the tracks in a Slob in Illinois and <hes> Fairmont and Hawk on have already expressed their desire to create said brought machine pros. There's also sports worth spending enabling. That's easier to get off the ground. <hes> Hawthorn people told me that they hope to get ready for the N._F._l.. And <hes> at least for the like walking and and make bed or get an accounting in diverse and mortar victoria however poor note that the sport spending part generate eurodollars purchase that's not a great mediator of the situation and the big elephant in the room is what but <hes> glassy-eyed is GonNa do because they have so far <hes> publicly expressed no plans for creating a casino or having a desire to have a casino. Four <hes> is sitting in a good spot coming off that last race I started a year. She blew the <hes> he blew the field away. So I'm looking for in that Allard to win it again with always sunshine well no <hes> no dosing course for the delicate wars and Arthur's hope <hes> that was some performance in that allowance for Salazar. It certainly was a big win last time with good figure and <hes> that's GonNa it's GonNa be on to the wire but and like you said no dozing Delacour and everything so I worry about that Mike Mike Dinnie has been very effective placing dinatale and let's look at the adjusting his <hes> is she is she. She's ninety two I. I'm a little surprised capital capital temptress on the outside. I had not really seen this race top to bottom but capita temptress absolutely <hes> the team valor player Yeah Yeah. It's another wide open race and that's my second pick in there. <hes> you know lots of and were tease the connections but you know what I'm A. I'm a I'm a Michael Dickinson Guy. He just get a kick out of and he always has. I'm I'm ready to go and he's got lift up. Who's just throw a clunker up at Woodbine but certainly needed that raisin she <hes> she's two for two on the Delaware turf so I'm GonNa go with lift up as another mile upset there the five all right and I said team valor it's <hes> Judd Mont the capital temptress whereas the the familiar colors and the last of the stakes action the dashing beauty longtime sprint race for the phillies in mayors and Miss Locust Point shows up in here for cash is king and partners and John Service but you're poop princess another kind of personal favorite <hes> Eddie Barker and cheese racked up just under a half a million in earnings as well small field but a good field how about the Anthony Regatta as well with Bronx beauty? That's who I like Bronx beauty she <hes> she really likes Penn national but she's beat three of these horses Vilis last time out so I'm going to give it another shot with Jose. Were tees up. Well you wretch always a pleasure and I I so enjoy watching and we haven't run a horse down there in a long time since our ramp affiliated broker maiden but it's the most beautiful paddock in all of racing and not just North America I it's for those that haven't been to the little track that could as they say what is it the cute place where the big names race beautiful beautiful place where the big names race there it is and ravitch. How many years have you been? Have you been there thirty two years and broadcaster but this'll be my fiftieth Delaware handicap as a fan and an employee so I've been around for a while aw and for years to come. I guess we're waiting for Marcus Hirsch so okay I will ask you to tell the story that is that is just great while you're serving in Vietnam you manage to get a bed in on the Dell Cap. Yeah that's absolutely true story. I was in Vietnam and I did see action but <hes> you could call home by way of the Ham radio system and I called my mother said that me five dollars on politely so I the funny brought a whole story Steve Visualizing my old mother walking into a bookie joint bitten five dollars on a horse but one and I still have.

I got a justice headset because I think I broke it yesterday to or from the racetrack good morning back back home and today there's just too much it's too much generic and assorted things to do. When it comes to the rest of the the racing action we don't live Vibes Air Togo alone and and has has been pointed out any number of times? You can win just as much money just as much money at Arlington this weekend or in Indiana or everywhere else so that's what we're going to be looking at because there's a little bit of everything and you know the one aspect of the early opening that that really hadn't come up the effect that it's going to have on the other venues that traditionally have this weekend weekend is second weekend of July you know historically to themselves and that includes the Arlington Million Preview Day. We'll talk to Marcus Hirsch in about thirty five minutes the del Cap the Delaware Handicap right now down a notch degree too but the kind of field actually we'll talk to rich glazer in about fifteen twenty minutes. One of our favorite visits of any summer is with the great rich glazer the long time host and just an affable <hes> face and voice of of Delaware Park but the Dell cap and Indiana now of course the Indiana card goes into the late afternoon starts late late and goes into the evening so they're not as affected necessarily but it is notable. I mean Saratoga is going to you got what eleven race card tomorrow and you know that that is going to draw handle away from the other Saturday afternoon facilities there just the fact so that topic <hes> hasn't really been broached. The FBI honest occurred to me this morning as I was doing some prep but anyway we're GONNA.

"Back to at the races with Steve dick on Sirius XM. We're back at the races coming up on fifteenth at the top of the hour, the Tempera recap really in the next hour jape ribbon right now following colleague, Marcus Hirsch. Jay, good morning. Very is. Jay, good morning. Sorry. Hi, steve. Hey, Jay, we got we just talked with Marcus about World Cup. And now shifting back domestically and derby watch we're we're in the thick of things Sunland park and Louisiana derby action last weekend thoughts. Both races were okay. You know by my standard stepped up. A big race Louisiana derby, which I was at I thought spinoff round well in second but just couldn't finish the race off. But it was a good performance for him second of a lengthy lay-off. But I still think those sources, and especially the ones that someone would probably cut below the best that we've seen and I think the best we've seen so far where the two divisions of the rebel in some really looking forward to seeing the Arkansas derby, and the Santa Anita. And I think you've got several good ones tomorrow in the Florida derby, so those I think the racist last week we're nice races. But I don't think that those are the the top horses in in the division right now. The one exception to that to me might be by my standards, and that you know, just getting good at the right time. And even another twist to out run on the solid race though community to see how they what they do with him because right now with. Thirty points. He's gonna be potentially right on the bubble for for getting into the race. This. I think it's gonna be some sore watching this weekend to decide whether or not they need to to run one more time and the same with country house. There's a good chance he's gonna run another time as well. Which might have said before the Louisiana derby that he was he was capable of doing that with the horses capable of doing that because he's a big strong horse. Well, we we had a lot of movement, and certainly the bluegrass looks like it's going to draw an overflow crowd. And we'll talk about next week in a in a couple of minutes at Santa Anita. But turn our attention to Florida derby and some thoughts about you know, what feels like the big chance for for the scroll to capitalize on. What is clearly an abundance of talent. Well, you've we've discussed the the trip at ride that he had found of youth and how he was certainly compromised by how race unfolded being the staff as it was early in for him to hang in there. Only be beaten three legs. I thought was pretty strong effort on his part. You know, the question will be how he reacts being down inside. I I know they've been training them to try fit behind horses and finish. But with the rail dry, you've got to use yourself just to have a little bit of positioning early you'd think maximum security coming out of sprints with clear the field, and maybe throw can have enough speed to then get outside going around the first turn something like that. And if he does I think he's going to be sitting in a perfect spot, you know, code of honor. Obviously that was a big bounceback race for him in the fountain of youth. And there's no reason to believe that he won't continue to move. Forward. Trainer. Should mcgahee. In very high on the lay he's trainees straight shooter. When we're Thors isn't just the way talked about the horse and like talk to him earlier this week. He's very bullish on the progress that this horses made since he started.

"And I said, I you know, what I don't think this is for me. But I love I love the atmosphere. There's nothing like Vegas, but you bring up a little more. It makes me think of that player. I told the story before there was a kid from Columbus whose families father was. In harness more harness. He and his buddies would be out. They were obviously out twenty four hours. He'd come down a minute before I post go to the table and grab the forms, but the forms then you had a pencil and he finished sixth. I I've never seen anything like it. Hadn't hadn't looked at one thing. And just looked at boards and looked at paper looked at boards. Unbelievable. I got one of the greatest stories ever about that was that I was at the Orleans for one of these contests and with a buddy of mine, Frank Mowbray and his son Michael who both a little off center. Let's just say so Michael goes out all night, and we're all sitting at this table and it's getting the last couple of races. He hasn't made a pick yet in the contest he comes down to racists to go. He asked if he can take more than one horse in the race. They say, yeah, he takes everybody in one race and gets like a sixty dollar horse. And has a highest score that all of us have been down there all day on day one. And he says it's all Joe, and he walks off we had nothing to say it was classic. I give everybody from unbelievable give everybody Frank primer here on on this track. Is it is unusual? And there the longest stretch thirteen hundred six feet north her teenager Nate. That's thirteen feet making it longer than Churchill, and I think maybe his heart on long Hawthorne's got long Akwa ducts got a long long stretch, but Churchill's twelve hundred thirty four and this is thirteen hundred six or eight people are scurrying now to look it up. And of course, you know, when you've got that long of a of a main track you've also got along turf stretch, which is different. And of course, anybody that watches the raises television the camera angle, you know, you think it's a little bit like techy down. Do you think your? Oh. Oh, yeah. All right. Wait a minute. We got another. We've got another sixteenth of a mile. It's funny. You mentioned the turf course, I actually adjusted some of my handicap and tomorrow after last week in Vegas. I don't know if you noticed the rails were at twenty seven, right. And you couldn't get what enough right? I mean, the WADA the better. Yeah. And then yesterday, the rails we're back in and. The inside was much more favorable in most of the races had an inside flow to. Yes. So that's gonna make a difference. I went back in justed some things when I saw that yesterday. Well, and of course, what's interesting is you've got the all the maiden races. And the allowance you've got a lot of turf routes to consider and we'll touch on it, Marcus Hirsch is gonna join us. You know about the about ten minutes or so after the first break, and you're going to be on the mentioned, you're going to be on with the with Pete..

"The Sunday consolation, you know, once once he gets to the point where you know, we're into the semi final and everybody that was eliminated which is basically ninety percent six hundred players on Sunday. They're they're playing those same thirty two races that the semi finalists are playing in a console and Dave Weaver won the console of big cheer went up. Actually, what keeps you keeps champlin announced the the winter and lot of respect for for Dave and his opinion. And he's got he's got a great following TV g and. He was gonna come by. And I don't know what happened. We'd never I saw early in the week maybe Thursday or Friday. So I've got gotta get you on. So we're going to talk the day. And even though we're trying to catch up on everything that went on should mention the the car here Saturday, and I can't wait till Marcus Hirsch, sits with me, and we go through this actually up in the press box, and which I'd never been until yesterday. Gonna he's gonna look to the Harlan's Holiday at Gulfstream rather than run from that thirteen hole in the mineshaft and Baffert bypassed as well. Because Jason yesterday from the ten hole, the Rachel Alexandra and kingly from the thirteenth hole in the risen star not interested. And you know, we'll talk about it, particularly with Marcus and probably the Frank mcgaughey is gonna join us tomorrow as well. Local professional horse player and brother, of course, the two-time BBC winter. We'll talk about those wide posts and how difficult it's going to be because not only are you gonna have to negotiate. The risen star and deal with the not just war of will from the he's going to be wearing the fourteen, but he's gonna leave from the thirteen. Now, got it. Steve Asmussen expects is going. Go ahead and run he wants to run gun it and. Not only do you have to worry about the fourteen post the thirteen the twelve. I was looking at the stats. The numbers are dreadful for everything from. The night post out in routes of a mile or over at the me. The nine hole over thirty six the ten whole over twenty two. There was a winner from the eleven one for twelve and then over four what for eleven I should say the eleven whole one for twelve and then the twelve whole over four so. Not not appetizing for being out posted here going the mile and a sixteenth in the resist are and the the horses that you're dealing with your country house is gonna leave from the nine lignite from the ten done is the eleven frolic more the twelve. War of will leaving from the thirteen and gun at number fifteen leaving from the fourteen. So the outside those outside boasts we'll see what? The everybody who watches and wages here. Locally what their thoughts are about the possibility..

"Did you have anything jeff strong fancy in the arabian race or anything early on the car on the arabian rice of course that's i don't always gets me going no i didn't have the only only look i think we always with these races is looking into see the horses whose name we recognize and unfortunately i think that sometimes the it we're able to participate in when it comes to these racing a little bit skewed in that situation you don't really get a ton of value on betting the american horses i thought economic models going to be tough in the dolphin mile but like i said there's really no value seventytwo morning one i think is not accurate the horse is going to be so to see what happens but if you're if you're up and you're looking for action i think he's one but definitely considered okay fair enough but at a point well taken by horse in the derby is one of those ones that americans are going to be familiar with but i think the way that this shakes out he might still be decent price in the usa pools i was able to bet him while over there at twelve to one and i'm talking about rewrite in the derby goal towns been amazing in the preparation as marcus hirsch pointed out on our handicapped session one of the star of the carnival to this point or maybe that was mark milligan pointed that out but anyway they both acknowledged the obvious excellent work he's done the praises but i'm just concerned that this is a case of proverbial beating trees situation and maybe even beating trees with the aid of a bias any discussion of these races tomorrow has to be.

"Well i mean the first race that popped into head and i it sounds like it's probably too ambitious when you say it out loud but i mean do you take a memo i mean i don't know feels like it's tad sharp for for a late running horse who's best races have been at a mile and an eighth it seems a little sharp but at the same time like in oh sometime moore's right no i agree your third in that race and in terms of your future career isn't that worth more than playing wins yeah no i don't i don't i don't disagree i mean that that's that's the the one that makes the most sense give them a try there i mean you know obviously be owners are attempting to create a stallion i mean that's what wins dr does with their horses and so what better race than the met mile and in it's not damaging right if if he doesn't run well in the mile and you give them a couple of weeks off and then you start training them up to the whitney or or maybe get them a prep it belmont in between them i that makes total sense to me it just seemed a little sharp i agree indeed marcus hirsch has an article up right now on your dot com multiple options for good samaritan you can check that out there talking about you know they met is mentioned the stephen foster is mentioned check out the whole article you can see.
