"And they finally figured it out. They haven't they didn't. Because now you got reps. This is what talking about boy shout out the Vinci Glynn who played for the San Diego Chargers for a while who was saying that even in the NFC championship game. Sometimes the moment is too big even for the refs and like the penalty that was not called against the Rams in that moment that would have sent the saints in all likelihood to Super Bowl. The moment was too big for the ref. And he didn't throw the flag when? I should have you know, he should've when the NFL then comes out a week later goes one he missed it to the doodoo made a helmet to helmet twenty five thousand dollar fine. My thing when it comes to golf is. Give back to golf. Yeah. Okay. I'm already thinking back to one. How many times are there? Miss calls in the game. All the time. That's fine. I don't killed it the the possession prior to that. They missed a face mask a blatant facemask on Jarod Goff. They would have given the Rams first and goal from like the two or three yard line. And instead of being twenty three to twenty or twenty two twenty could have been twenty four twenty Rams, which have completely changed the the the that drive. Okay. That's one yet. So there was a miscall for the Rams on the other side yet. Number two, drew Brees got extremely lucky on one that got thrown up that Rams fans. It should have been picked shouldn't even come down to that point. But they did. That's neither here nor there. Let me ask you something. When this when they missed the miss the call, I love more can do a football podcast, right? Did the saints have the lead after the field goal? That's not the point that they have the lead. After the field goal to ask. How much time was on the clemmie ask you something? They'd be acted. They have the lead. Yes. Twenty three twenty. Yes. Did they have an opportunity? Did they have an opportunity on defense to stop the Rams and the game? Yes. Did they is there a difference between absolutely and forty seconds. And I couldn't disagree more with the after the fact complaining about this and just in sports, and where we aren't general the saints head to opportunities to end the game within their control. You can't control an official. You can control stopping the Rams. You took the lead, and you can control winning the coin toss getting the ball. I and over time and that turn in that turning it over you could look at the pages. They won the overtime coin toss score game over right? That's that's the thing. You can control what you do after winning or losing. And they didn't. So mentally weak. Here's the problem, then you can say that about the reps. And this is why I have a problem with not being able to do something about that is because in the biggest moment in the biggest games the people that should be on the sidelines making the call should be the best as well. And they typically are it's a human moment. He'll air. Okay. But it's fixable. That's the problem. And I think that we will see that. But it's not fixed. Now, it's not fixed now, but higher everyone saying that cost the saints the Super Bowl, you don't know that. No, it did stop the Rams on defense and you're going to the Super Bowl, you know, what score in overtime, and you're going to the super you know, what I can do on defense to the ram stop. There's only twenty three seconds big. Let me tell you something the game the game of football. Now, not twenty three seconds from kickoff better shot at stopping somebody for twenty three seconds..

"I know I have the greatest coolest stupidest most lucky job in the whole world that I can start a sentence with so hanging out with Marcus Allen talking smack the Reggie Jackson. It really is remarkable like this so stupid, and oh, hey, Richard dent over there is Yellen stuff across the driving range as well. So like that was just that's the beauty of golf the horror of golf is what happened to how tongue Lee getting penalized for the new rule saying that his cat. Okay. Spirit of the cave. Okay. She'll break it down. How long layover? I we gotta talk about the new rule, which is the new rule that started January first two thousand nineteen there. A big problem on the LPGA tours where this all really comes from. And on LPGA tours. Slow play is a huge issue. One of the slow play problems is caddy's lining up players, okay. For every single shot including on the t box in the fairway and on the green. So the new rule states that caddy cannot stand behind the player lining them up as they take their stance or as they're setting up to hit a shot. Okay. Okay. If you're doing that to line your player up. It's a penalty you are in breach of this penalty. But even in rules. It says you have to be doing it to line your player up. So it's basically in the spirit of the game. So, you know, so how Tom Lee on the eighteenth hole him and his caddy. So and this was the dead giveaway. He's crouching. Down number one the caddy stand behind the ball by itself. Yeah. Reading the putt by himself. No Playa himself. No player. How Tom steps over crouches down gets into the catcher's position to do the plumb Bob thing. Yep. Catty standing behind him over shoulder. They're talking about the line of the putt in the read for right? So now, the caddy STAN how stands up the caddy stands there. And looks at the line of the read one more time. How Tom starts to step in just to take a stance for his practice wings, not to put the putter behind the ball. So he starts step in and the caddy as soon as out on does there. You can see the caddy step out of the way because he realizes. No, no, no. I can't be here. So, you know, he's not trying to line him up in the spirit of the essence of the rule. You can clearly you say you cannot line him up. What's the ball putters bind the bullets once the guy when he takes his practice strokes? When he's setting up if he's set to take his practice stroz, the caddy can't be standing directly behind. Him now in real life and common sense. It wouldn't make sense to lineup guys practice stroke. It wouldn't that's really stupid because you can do whatever you want during a practice stroke. Right. You hitting the ball. So anyway, he cow tongue was taking his practice stroke. But the caddy stepped out of the way as he stepped in to take his practice. How then steps in hits the put makes the put later they go into the scoring and they are told by the European. They broke the rule. It's a two stroke penalty. He was in fourth place. It is on the European tour going from fourth the seventeenth that's a big chunk while to seventeen. Yes. And to the credit of players and caddies on the European tour like even European to a rider Cup. Captain Paul Lawrie came out and said that was absurdly. Just senseless senseless that it's obvious in the spirit of the game. But they have not rescinded that two stroke penalty. I'm okay with it the penalty, I'm okay with it. Because everyone's still learning now in March April May June best not be happening on any European this side or PGA. But I'm only because we've seen this other football with football couldn't get out of its own way. But the hell with the helmet, contacts and all of that..

"I mean, you you you you you can only imagine meeting him in. Then you end up being best friends and stuff when I get to play golf. Yeah. Absolutely. And crude I mean, I just think about all the people in in golfers. I was just laughing Lee Trevino the other day and stuff, you know, meeting him. And I mean. So many more guys that I played golf with and Markle mayor with his his probably best guys to play with and stuff. Just fantastic, you know, become friends with Mark. And I mean, you don't ever think about this stuff, you'd think about some people, but the meet the I guess the magnitude, oh, the volume of people that are on that level. I mean, we we sort of you know, I don't ever take it for granted. But I know it is like it when I reflect on. It's like, you know, it's really funny. Look, I'll go I'll go through if I'm with a friend, and we're like messing around and stuff when we go through the airport, and we'll go to the the the newsstand, and I swear I'll look at the magazines, and I say, I know that no I know that it'll be, you know, forty magazines, and I know ten people on those magazines. You know what I mean? Right, right. It's crazy. Like, man, you really feel fortunate because you, you know, we've been, you know, giving them, you know, a wonderful gift. And and as a result, you do some wonderful things wonderful people and stuff like that. And it's it's really weird. I ask you one thing. I was always curious about and because I asked this doc one time I asked him what's the one don't that? He remembers because everyone puts up the highlights of like his greatest dunks and whatnot. That don't that. He talked about that. He's still like, yeah. Say he's still dream it. Sometimes was not anyone that was on a highlight. What's the one play from your career that you still like? And I was pretty good. Well, the Super Bowl run was was pretty good. And and and it was because it was. It was metaphysical. Right. It's hard to explain. But you know, I guess the best way layman terms, it would just pure time travel to I was a a brush and his still painting painting his fast and has beautiful and. As I wanted to brush, the go, and it was just I I always tell people that when I ran by. I noticed so much details in the face things -iety as I was running by people. I'm not. Yeah. It was that slow in my world. I waved at these guys. You never saw it. Right. But I mean in my world, I did like this. Right. But nobody ever saw that. Right. It was. The matrix. It was weird. Now, that's an am. And that happened several times. But I mean to have you know to to get in that group. In the world's biggest days when everybody's watching. And I remember, you know, since everybody's always talking about Russia. I think it was President Reagan at the time said that. He got a call from. Ramaz? He's. I can't remember it was at the time. But I think it was. But he just did I got a call from from Russia, and they wanna dismantle their secret weapon that we have. So that's what the president said about me. You know after the game. And so that was pretty cool things about this stuff. Growing up. This is going to happen in all that really mattered to me. It was with my parents were there, and I took him onto one of your I guess ride. Yeah. And and to have them interview by Phyllis, George, you know, it was pretty that was pretty cool. Right. And then you come back home and everybody like thinks, you know, the parents stars and stuff and as a kid you pass what you write. Pets you want your parents to enjoy it? You know, you wanna take him on a wonderful journey in ride and stuff like that. Just want to give them back everything they gave you. So it's I feel lucky. Yeah. We are luggage people and more to come for all of Mark. Famous dudes. We hear about it all the time with guys you just put in work work work, and they're just obsessive about their craft. That's Marcus Allen right now about golf. I didn't know it until I watched him on the driving rain try to tell you this do..

And then, you know, the young guns still around cough is in great shape. If we get two to three more years of good town, but word we're all happy. I just you know, those guys stick around wrong. "I'm spoiled. Yeah. I'll hit now will hit balls. Yeah. We'll compared to compared to Saint Saint Louis. I mean, this is really of like tanktop weathering. Should be the pool. Is there something when you're playing that playing this game that there's in the round you like there's that competitive thing you used to have when I played football. Is there something that? No, just always competitive. Yeah. When you grew up a family of four boys and. It's it's always competitive, you know, and our families compete against another family up the street we used to be the Baltimore Colts. And they used to be the Green Bay Packers, and they had a family of nine brothers or I say nine children but most of them brothers, and we would play play them. It was you know, competitive. Yeah. It was always competitive, which is which is great because. That's certainly for me just growing up always playing with older guys, which helped me out a great deal. So when you're out here there every shot for us competitor, regardless of what you doing. I don't put I don't golf is one sport that I don't go crazy over even though it does frustrate me to no end because I wanna have a good time. And if you don't I mean, if you. You know, allow it to you know, sort of. Ruin your day it canned. So I mean, listen, I wanna play good golf. But I also want to have good time. I wanna laugh I'm gonna joke that so I never let really a bad around. I mean after every shot, you know, I hit a great shot. And then I like you said earlier, you say at least fifty times, I hate golf. Yeah. Hit this beautiful soft hydraulic. Yeah. It was just. Hey today. It was like I started off so good. So good. Then all of a sudden, I don't know what happened. Some some sort of possess my body. And you said you started sliding move. Just arm lifts. Oh, no, no, no more. We're not we're done with full turns today. It's been like that. I love the fact do you know that a room was made because of him. Golf rule. No football. No, no. It wasn't. I said I wish it was a ruin one this shit been. Yeah. So because me and him one time had a conversation about laying hits. Because Richard dent. We're talking about big hit not. And we LT as well. And and I was asking him, man. Who'd you ever because everyone was always trying to light you up. Yeah. And. You never like a, you know an interception thrown. But. You know, you also of like, yeah. When the when they were, you know, thrown this is my paternity go, you know, get them back and stuff like that. So we would. You know, I was certainly trying to exact revenge will. But it's one situation we plan to Miami Dolphins. And I forgot who quarterback was actually I haven't forgotten. Just don't wanna. I don't want to throw him under the bus, but Schrader. Anyway, there was there was a we lineup. And I think I sort of. For right formation on among the weak side. I run a flat. And then there's a corner, you know, sort of a high low situation and in the corner is supposed to influence or the flat is opposed to influence the DVD jump on me to go back to the corner. Right. So I was wide open to shoot it through to me. But he threw it to the corner. I mean, skews me he threw it to the the wide receiver that was running the corner. Well, he picked it off. And I'm actually about a foot away from two feet away from the sidelines. And I see him coming. Right. So I step out of bounds. And this is the Miami Dolphins sideline. I step out of bounds. And I'm standing there. Just waiting. He's looking into Phil to play. It was Troy van. He doesn't see me. Because who's looking to the site is is writing he's looking into fill to play, right? Man, I stepped. Out of bound and step by step back in. We're actually really didn't. I just hitting from them near the sideline. And boy, I think almost ended his career. He assured game he can pied, and he talks a lot of crap the entire time to any always bets. So, you know, yes. "I think that was struggling pretty well doing that. To bonnet national talk. We can't I was sitting about pretty well. I remember. Remember when the Steelers won the Super Bowl? The last one. In normally with the NFL does is they the following year. They had you know, they'll kick off the season and the in in the town that won the Super Bowl. So we're in Pittsburgh. I'm not trying to name, but in Pittsburgh, and you wanna play Oakmont who you call. Mario lemieux. More you hooked us up. And so. Golf maniac s years, and he's a really good one, Richard. Your Dickerson in myself. Wow there and this was a couple years ago. But after that I convinced Eric to drive to Columbus with me. Right. And we played 'field SC was playing Ohio State. So and it was like the perfect. You know, it's like man, we gotta take advantage of this. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's how long would drive. Oh, I think it's just a couple of hours on my the interesting thing is when I look back, and I'm laughing at this. You have no idea my appetite for God. And how early I get up in the morning. And I will drive three hours to to play with my friends and then try three hours back. I mean, people think we're crazy crazy and obsessed and it's it's. I think we are. Yes. But say advertised, I say addiction. What golf is get that bug. It gets in you because you know, this is one you were you were. In a Super Bowl. And you were as close to perfect as there could be we play a sport that we all know it's impossible to be perfect. But man, we're going to be out there. It's fifty degrees outside overcast and blowing thirty and you're on the range for what two and a half three hours after playing in the morning. You know it. It's something about you know, plane sports, you know, it's almost like poetry in motion and stuff like that. If you really good at what you do. You don't even think about it. It's just like the height of. You know of being instinctive, you know, and I've always said if if somewhere someone were to ask you a question about what were you thinking on that play? And if a running back actually said, well, I was thinking about doing this and think about doing that. It's BS. They lie line. The honest answers. I don't know just happened. Right. But with golf balls stagnant right there. It's not moving and the amazing thing, you know, just from a mental standpoint is when the balls night there, you can complete you swing? You can get in the proper positions. Do all that. There's no question Boone that ball white little montier addressed that ball, and you hit it sort of got one aggressive genie your body. I should say one. But if you have, you know, especially playing football, and you and you forceful in strong. Oh, it's it is the worst thing for you. You can't help. I mean, I wish I could swing seventy percent. That's why we were so fascinated on the range watching the LPGA a pros. Their remarkable amazing. Yeah. Doesn't seem like they're hitting the ball anywhere. And you look up and it's like one beautiful. Shot after another great trajectory. Effortle-? It looks like look like they're not even trying. They're real swings. Our practice wings a single in my practice wing. And I wish that. Worsted? I could you know, I Meyer them so much because. Golf is. It is. And we see it from you. Yes. The year the first person to go out there. Hit three good shot. Yeah. It'd be like, man. I hate this game. I know. I do. Yeah. That's how it is. It's it's frustrated. I absolutely positively love it. I mean, it's so much fun. I had in an earlier interview. I was talking about. Say why don't you love the game so much for a variety of reasons? One is that I love the outdoors. You know? I think it's peaceful. It's coming and stuff. It's the closest thing to God. And Secondly, I said, you know, what it start locker room? Yeah. You know, guys at a retired. This is our locker room. This is this is, you know, we don't go. Hey, we don't say, let's go coffee clutching. We don't say, hey, guys. And we spent far before I was out there with your buddies. You know, running the gamut talking about life, you know, talking about good things bad things. You know, just sort of, you know, laughing joking bedding, and it's just a lot of fun. I mean, we were not going to play basketball anymore. It's just too tough on the body. We're not gonna you know, run play baseball running around the bases is not something that we want to do. But we can go off and talk. And I mean, it's just the best fellowship and compete. Yeah. He thinks I'm gonna I'm going to back down because of a smaller and stuff like that. You know, he has a tendency, you know, to play extremely slow. And so when he gets criticized for playing slow, you know, he'll get angry. And but he's a talker too. Yeah. Well, he the play. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I say like playing with Richard. It is actually like, you know, it's almost like a five some I mean, he's. He's Jim Nance. Two two. Oh, man. You know, just like you. Yeah. Dude. He he gets his play by play. I mean, he's just and then he then he wants to be David Feherty. Interview do just play me and play. But I think that's how he gets in your head. No, don't you know, all he has to do is get in. My head is is is slow down. Didn't come on. So you're a quick player you I'm not a quick player. But I you know, I just play play play with rhythm. Yes. And Richard is like I mean, he'll take twenty practice wings. You know? And if you interrupt him he'll start all over. Coming. You can't do that. When you say you got my shit a lot of the raiders when you were with the raiders played. I mean that was rare because we we had a couple of guys. Yeah. I shouldn't fit a lot. We're going to few guys that God, you know, where you one of them at the time. Yeah. We all sort of started in, you know, it was just it was just fine. It was a driving range over near Elsa. Segundo? "Golf fan. Sometimes when they get mad when it's a birdie-fest, and I look. San Diego had no wind whatsoever. None none. It was his benign as I've said, it was his chambers commerce as you could ever get it. There is not one golf course in the world that can protect itself against the greatest golfers in the world, if there's no wind and the greens are not tricked up like the US open unless you kill the greens and make them as firm as a bathtub as firm as fast as a bathtub. You're not there's nothing you can do now. And they're rough at Tori was no joke. That was some serious rough where you only see the top guy shoes. And you couldn't see golf ball. And they were still able to muscle stuff out and figure it out. It was it was it was it was a thick rough. It was the Connex it. Yeah. It was. So the rough was ju just looked like you ain't moving it. Yeah. It just looked lush and green and thick. And so for those guys to play as well as they did. And. Shoot. Those kind of scores is just like I don't wanna hear anybody bitching about. I'm tired of seeing these guys shoot low. I love the US open. But I only want to see that once a year where you gotta trick. Golf course up. Right. They could goofy golf like I want. I don't wanna see guys play golf that. I could see it my Munich course care about that. That was the other thing too. Because another guy that a pair appears we're going to contend with this year's Adam Scott because he is all in on the pin in the whole that he's all in. He decided that that's what I'm gonna do an and putter he found a punt of that he likes. But he says he likes the flag in helps them aim helps them read better. He was unconscious. If that reminded him he said when he was a little kid, if you remember, and we all have this as soon as you said, I was like, you know, what is true think of all the practice putting greens before you go play. Yeah. They all have those little tiny little ones. Yeah. In and you just always hit it right at the pin. And it's a perfect tool. Yup. And he was like that took me back to when I was a kid. And so as a kid. Yeah. That's all you do you never pull them. Out genius. And now bang now. Twisted the dude missed an eighteen inch. Putt that never touch the flagstick. There are still some moment. He's still gets a little right? But if he'd look if Justin Rose wasn't without a pulse. He catches him on Sunday because there was an opportunity because he he missed inside four feet that would've tied him up. And then just hit the big par. Saving. Putt. I think on six teen. Yes. They would have made it a one-stroke is adamant already birdied it. Yes. And then they both played lights out on seventeen atomatic, kickin birdie. And then by that time eighteen years already said and.

"He beat me to introduce me on. Yes. So they are on the level. Of you. Remember back in the day. The best irons made were Mizuno Honma was number two. But they were just never brought over here to the state. So a lot of guys I learned back in the day older golfers. They had clubbed the here the United States. But when they would go play in Japan, they all played Honda's real because they had a deal with Hanta play when they were over there and they loved them. They just couldn't play him here because Han was weren't sold into states. So the ship them, you could I guess, but you know, when you're the best players in the world, you got a chance to get a paycheck the industry to get the there's not a Honma truck at every tournament. They can get these things next not at all. Now, they do make the most expensive set that I've ever seen. They make a set of irons that is twenty four karat gold. The set of clubs is is seventy three thousand dollars. That's disgust. And there's a caddy that I know who actually caddied for a guy at a club who had a set was like a sheet or something like that from over in the Middle East. And he said he got through one of the iron do do you really want to play with gold clubs? No, you're gonna look like an idiot. Yes. You would look like eighty. I mean, just an absolute. Yes. Yes. They look good me. And my gold club get at it. Yeah. But how many people you got a pet cheetah in? I've seen videos dues driving around there with the cheetah in the backseat. What is that about people with excessive money that have to have weird things? Because that's money. You don't have a job right really have a gig. So you gotta find ways to spend it. And because you know, they all play the Jones game. Well, what does Mr. Jones got across the street? I can't I can't have him out. Do me. And you're not working. So it's like, what am I going to get? So these are got pet cheated rides around with me in one of my twelve range Rovers or I'll put them in side seat in lambo. Yeah. You've seen that. Like, the all platinum Bentley a Bentley. That's all platinum. Now, you know, how much how much how much is that? Oh, I don't. It's got to maisy rose in it. That's what this one of the things that have is true about golfers. People think golfers are where all the monies at no the do pay to golfers. Those are like the when we go to these tournaments, and we're out and about it these these different events, it's the CEO's right of these places are the title sponsor events. And that's why I'm convinced so many celebrities love golf and pro athletes because they got a ton of money, they're competitive. And then like, what could I do that other rich people do know, you know, what I think celebrities and athletes love golf so much to it's because when you can have four and a half to five and a half hours where you're off the grid. Yeah. That's true. To reach heavy bothered. Nobody touch and no matter. How mad somebody is? When you say to them, man. I was on a golf course. They're like. Okay. All right. Everyone's understanding when you tell them if you say, look, you gotta. Phone call and eleven o'clock eight man, I can't make the call and be on the golf course. But unlimited funds. They can have the same clubs as tiger. They can get world-class instruction. You can hit a shot like a professional debt. Yes. That's the key to doing that. So anyway, just back to Justin Rose in his Honda's. He took the plastic off of those things basically at. Bob hope. Oh, my so those things got game play one week before. He just did what he did at the farmers insurance open at Torrey Pines setting the two day scoring record. And almost breaking the scoring record period, which the scoring record was twenty two hundred par but that's twenty two hundred par before they made the changes, y'all north course. So that's the other thing that kills me about..

"But that was again different scheduled different year and different tiger kind of put it now that he knows he could go there and had a chance to win. He had a chance to tie. He had a chance to tie and send that into a playoff on the eighteenth tee box. Although he was out and hit iron off at t laid back whatever, but we don't want. That's what he doing this year. All I'm saying is this stretch of golf coming up is gonna be one extremely important for him. And also it's going to be extremely important for his body. Well, he's going have to get out of his own way. And someone's got to be like, did you you've got to let one of these go, and I would agree with you. I think Honda almost going to have to say no Honda would be it the one he's going to be the casualty. I believe that too. But it's not because Arnold Palmer the players to prestigious events Arnold is always going to always get respect in two thousand and thirteen right? So nosy can win it without it and driver. So I'm about the fall into a trap like I did last year on this podcast because we launched our first one was US open. We did the one that we shared with you at the master's. We just played the John Daly interview. I believe we didn't give you the whole podcast of it though. But in that podcast in the US open all year last year. My Justin Rose is gonna win a major Justin Rose is gonna win a major, and he did everything but win a major last year based on what we saw at Torrey. I am again fallen into the Justin Rose trap. He's by far and away the best player in the world right now. He's always been one of the best ball strikers in the world. But the strokes gained putting what he's done with his putt. Has been magnificent. Look, I you can't convince me he's not one of the masters. He's he's or he's not going to be the favourite. He's so good right now. I know I know look I'm gonna tell you something. So I did a little thing for Zurich because he's one of the ambassadors reserve as is he's actually been the longest of all the three ambassadors that they had that were on the panel. With me was myself. Justin Rose Jason day, Billy horseshoe. And we all sat up there. Kind of talk it and Justin Rose told a really funny story of when he became world number one. And he walked into his daughter's room and said, hey, Alexa. Who's the best golfer in the world? That's fun. And we're like, that's awesome. Yeah. Any laughed and he goes. Yeah. But Alexa goes it's Tiger Woods. And then he goes no who's working on right now. And then it was him which was cool. So. Talking to Jason day and Billy horseshoe. This was Friday night. Yup. And they were like this do with these new Honda irons, and the driver, especially Billy said Justin was twenty yards longer with that driver. Then he was with Taylor. Woods teller makes a good driver. Even though tight list. Apparently. Now, they're new driver there leading all the if you look on the category of like who plays. The most drivers from what company titlis is taken over. Really? So they have a new driver out there that a ton of guys have switched to tailor made is always made a really good driver. And that's what Justin Rose is coming from all tailor made stuff. But now he's got ten Honma clubs in there. I ns and his driver that is stupid low. Now, people will say never even heard of Honma Honda's, a Japanese club maker..

"So now you swing so free and start because you don't care. Yeah. But I think Tigers in a different. I don't think he qualifies for what your talking about. Because I don't I think he's working on so much. I believe that he stopped thinking about winning the tournament. But I believe that he's still consciously working on things because he knows golfer. This is the beginning of his two thousand nine hundred seats. Yes. But that's every golfer. Would you not agree though, that it's encouraging? Oh my gosh. Yeah. Knowing that. That's there still that was what was so good. Was that? All the shots that he that. He had last year. We're still there didn't him hit shots and then on Saturday and Sunday when he started hitting some fairways outside. Okay. He's he's hitting fairways. Now he did. Made double bogey after the middle of the fairway, but that's what he would do. And that's what was drive on us. He would bonkers he would do something like that. And then he had the one who had it hung up in the rough. And then he had he blasted it past the whole. Then he missed it coming back. He would always. And I said this on sports. I think when you and I were talking on sports, and which by the way, there's another good, Mattie and caddy both Instagram and Twitter. There's a funny video exchange between council we dive into that every time that he would get a stroke and birdie a whole he'd give it back a whole or two later. And so again, it was great to see bounceback birdies. I love it. When he makes him a stake makes a bogey, and it makes a birdie to follow it up because you're like, all right. The grinder still there. We're good. But sometimes the bogies were so bad. I, but why anybody in this? This is what was driving me nuts. No one was. Okay. With me just being okay with tiger this week. I'm alright. Whatever he does I'm fine with it. What do you mean? What do you mean? What do? He's forty three PDD played too much last year. He wanted Eastleigh. Let him get into a groove. Rory and speed rose. Adam Scott, these are the guys that are going out to win now tiger and his head is going to tell you is one in our Tigers in preseason mode Tigers and spring training. Tigers figuring Tigers tiger's doing what he says he always wants to do. And that is there four times a year when I want my game to peak. That's it if peace before they cou I ended up beating some news as co that's fine. But I wanted to peak at Augusta I wanted to peak now I wanted to peak at the PGA championship. Then I wanted to peak at the US open and the open championship. Those are the four times that being said went out next again Genesis..

"I'll never forget on tournament days watching guys walking. I would stand at the top by sixteen watching looking down the tunnel. And some guys would rub their hand on that sign like it was Notre Dame like they were slacking candy happy. Yeah. And other guys wouldn't even look at the sign like literally we're looking kind of to their left. So they didn't have to see the sign because they didn't want to think about it. See, and that's it and Michael's idea. There was genius. Because there's always a preview show to the sixty s and then you always get asked about the sixteenth. After the eighteenth. With too much has happened between sixteen seventeen and other good hogs. You could drive the grain. If you why. So we're going to be tomorrow really long winded way of telling you we're going to be stationed on the seventeenth. And we were going to interview players and celebrities after right after the experience right after their legs, you'll probably still shaking, and we're going to do an instantaneous reaction to the sixteenth the waste management open. So we look forward to bring you that your shorts was not that shade of Brown. Also, I go so you did wear your adult, hyper for you. So we are looking forward to that are to Sirius XM for everything they're doing for us this week, partnering with them this week to get this Mattie, the caddy out to you looking forward to that. I want to start with Torrey Pines a couple of things to unpack at Torrey. The first thing is that I am going to let's lead with Tigres, Tori, just because it was his first of the year. I set it on last week's podcast where Reggie Jackson was our guest. If you haven't listened to download the entire catalogs there. I'd said that my I wouldn't care if tiger didn't make the cut my expectations for him for we're low as well. This should have been. And I thought he did exactly what I expected him to do. I thought he hit the driver better than I expected. He's in that new tailor-made m-5 twist face technology. I thought there were days where he seven to fourteen fairways and think of Thursday or Friday Friday booth. Yeah. So look I wasn't again. I wasn't going to be neighbor by the numbers with tiger. I was okay with it. You were there. What were you? I'm I try to tell people just keep expectations low, and it's hard for the real hardcore tiger fans 'cause they every time you tease it up. He's going to win and it's like that's not realistic expectations. He also had brand new irons into bed. Yup. With all new equipment, everything except the wedges in putter. But the and the five the five would still isn't the new ones. So we had new driver new three would than three through pitching. Wage we're all brand spanking new so he was getting adjusted to all of those that game speed. He talked about that the fact that the first he hit seven out of ten seven out of fourteen fairways on the first day and only hit ten greens and shot to under pretty solid. Until you went will he play with Zander Schoff lay who hit three fairways or he was all over the place and shot three under. Yeah. So he was not happy about that. But you know, they were playing on a south course, that wasn't necessarily gettable. And that's why I thought Friday was a little disappointed because he could go get the north course. And he didn't. And but no one went crazy creeks wrong on Thursdays. Thursdays, head underwent. But the thing is you were like, wow, he must have a four shot lead. Now one he had a one shot lead because two guys shot nine under and one guy named Doug. Jim who everyone was like who? So I mean when you look back at what tiger did last week at Torrey Pines. I think it was encouraging. But I always gotta tell people were like man, look how he lit it up on the weekend. And you came on strong on Sunday. Look, here's the problem with that is it's easy for professional golfers to shoot great scores on the weekend. When it doesn't matter matter, you just go at that point. You're forgetting every you're getting a game plan wit, you're swinging you like whatever I can't win. I just want to belong just wanna finish to me get outta here..

"Because see for sawgrass. If you want to know, how terrifying is watch the caddy's hit a shot there on Wednesday. Oh, yeah. That's and we've been in there. We have. Yes, we play daring. Yeah. Front to front of a thousand one of us. Even though we never saw. Yes. You. We did. Yes. You did not. There were all flight yet. You saw leave the T. We saw swing. Say miraculously show up on the green with one right on the edge. You heard people's yelling array when that was stayed on green. They could love water celebration. Maybe they were hated. They might have been hating on me. No, I've found I've found terra firma. I was on the first cut the natty. You're safe. I was safe. I would say on there. It is terrifying. In a different way it right in a different way. Because you don't get booed there. That's what I'm saying. So that's what makes this sixteenth. It's just like anything. Oh that you could be thinking about your golf game. Yes. Goes to hell when you step up with that teebox. I wish Oakley would put the sign back there again. Yeah. I know they're probably not a big sponsor with the tour. So they probably they might have snuck it there that one year, but Oakley had the greatest sign in the tunnel from walking off the fifteenth. Yeah. Our five for the people who've never been there. You play a par five fifteen which is also on an island and after you walk off of there. You're looking at the side of what is now called the Coliseum, and you have to walk through a tunnel to get to the sixteenth on the par-three and the. People at the top back in the day when that was just bleachers. They would be looking over where way for you. We're waiting and then inside the tunnel one year Oakley put a sign up and the sign said Rockstars all wanna be golfers. Golfers all wannabe Rockstars, the stage is yours. Welcome to the sixteen. Awesome. And it still gives me goosebumps because.

We'll get to that coming up in just a bit so much to get to on today's podcast. We were so happy about it. It is Super Bowl podcast in that. We today's guest is Super Bowl MVP hall of Famer and Super Bowl champion. One of the greatest of all time, Marcus Allen. One of the most memorable runs in NFL history. Marcus Allen is going to be our guest today who takes us them memory. Also. Now, the best part, I love Marcus the death because he is a golf addict. Yup. And it's a problem. Oh, we'll get into those stories on the drive so Marcus Allen, the guest, we will also discuss Justin Rose Tiger Woods Bryce into Shambo so much to get to on this podcast. But I do want to start with this catty we again for the second time in three weeks or Ondo -cation. We are at, you know, look get out of here with this being Phil Mickelson Thome tournament. This is my home turnament. You Mattie is. Yeah, you run this play. Mattie is back in his own fills, Scottsdale. Arizona we're here for the waste management open. So happy to be back here. I love this place. I'm gonna tell you right now. There are two tournaments that I tell people have to be on your bucket list too. One is the masters because of course, the masters is. Easter Sunday, Christmas Eve and Christmas morning in church. Yep. That's what it is. And you feel that when you go there reverence, and then there's the waste management Phoenix Open, which is the other tournament that has to be on your bucket list because it is the polar opposite. It is animal house bachelor party, wedding crashers and a modeling contest. Yes. All in one model. It is a it is the greatest when they say that the Florida Georgia game is the biggest cocktail party in the country. They those people never been here. So to give you a little bit of a background on this tournament. First of all, we will say this. We are here for a very special podcast that we will unveil for you next week. Yes, we are going to be stationed on the seventeenth tee during the pro-am because my genius co-host. I'm not gonna. To throw that term around for you often came up with this idea of hey, the sixteenth experience from adding the caddy, but with a twist twist. The twist is everybody in their cousin is on the sixteenth tee box and everybody wants to talk to everybody right there on the sixteenth teebox. Everybody's like oh, sixteen sixteen sixteen which would you never hear you never hear what happened ever even if someone hits the green, that's it. And now there's so much going on. And there's so many people there's like local Yokel dudes from horse and hound magazine right out there sticking microphones out to every single person. And of course, the sixteenth hole at Scottsdale for amateurs is exactly like seventeen TB sawgrass when they get there. You wanna have the experience on camera 'cause you're in the Coliseum the hell you do. Sure yet everybody does man I know Jordan speed. Was videotaping. Michael phelps? No. I know. But I'm yeah. No, no, I get but but Mike I mean, the sixteenth at the stadium course Scottsdale, I believe, it's an easy golf shot. Let's what's about one hundred fifty yards, but one hundred thousand Gulf paper, it's easy. You throw in a stadium which is legitimately. What it is. Yes. Drug Brad's and CHAD'S. Yes. Hot women everywhere. Yes. And people heckling you it becomes much more difficult. I think years ago than sawgrass. No, no..

Now the game within the game all that good stuff. But the cool thing is being at the raiders groundbreaking today headquarters over there in Henderson, Nevada and seeing a lot of the former raiders, and and I guess you can't even say former raiders because that fraternity is the silver and black fraternity once a Rada always a raider kinda like Semper fi with the marines. Same thing right there with the raider organization. So that's your name is Marcus Allen. Apparently. Well, they weren't they weren't you pleased with Marcus Allen when he left and went to Kansas City in him and Al Davis had the big get to do. Well, you know, I mean end of the day, I cheer Marcus Allen still remembers that Super Bowl that he won with the rail, absolutely. That was a great team. That was one of one of the best teams. I remember watching. I really enjoyed watch Marcus wearing silver and black, and yeah, it was kind of weird to see him play for Kansas City. Same thing with the Joe Montana going there from the Niners after all those years. So never easy to see a guy that plays pretty much his whole career with one team. We're talking about guys like why Leonard plan was playing against San Antonio this year, and then Tony Parker tonight with the Charlotte Hornets going against his former team, so yeah, it's kind of weird when you see them wearing other uniforms, and, you know, Michael Jordan, when he came back and played with the Washington Wizards just was kind of weird, you know, just remember him as being this iconic bulls guy, and in great shape, and all of a sudden he looked like one of the latter years over there. Just not the same shape that we're used to seeing them dominated. But you know, give him credit came back with the other number forty five. I think it was there with the wizard was forty five. "Our special guest today is the remarkable Marcus Allen you've set records as a running back for the LA raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs during your fifteen year football career, and you're also football analysts for CBS. And here's a special note, you share your life with a wheaten terrier named Zoe. Hey, Marcus tells us tell us a little bit about your dog Zoe, and what it about terriers that you just really like well Zoe is the first Syria that I've ever had the family dog, and we absolutely love. So she has she has unconditional love she is athletic. She is loving, she's energetic. She loves to ride in the car. She's exactly what family meager dinner dog. It's not the first thought that we had I sort of grew up with dogs. That's why I dog was a German shepherd. Oh, San Diego. Yes. Senate San Diego when I was a young boy. And then our second dog was a wine writer, so we've had dogs family entire life. And so, you know, this was a great opportunity for me to be a part of the Casey national championship in it by row Canaan, the largest dog showing America to highlight. My love for dogs, a showcase my dog going, and I gotta tell you. I'm a little bit biased. Because I got a Jack Russell terrier mix named Kona full name ice cream Kona. And so we're going to be rooting for the terriers. That's all right with you. Isn't it Marcus? Absolutely. We cares in particular. I didn't know how great the dog would be. I had no idea my wife Lauren dog out. And I think I love more than she does. So it's a great family dog again, energetic cheese. Oh, gosh. She's just about a year old now. Survived survived the wonder years. Absolutely beautiful. She's she's great does not indicative of Bader. I saw picture soft gray color. She's absolutely stunning. Wouldn't say I think secretly we all would like to believe that our dog would win best in show. Yeah. I hear you. You know, we all believe that our dog takes up on her. So I'm excited to be a part of this Casey national championship air as you said on January first twenty nineteen at six pm on animal planet this year. I think it's a new record number of injuries. I think there's almost eighty five hundred dollars representing ninety American kennel club recognize breach. I mean, they're coming over the glow in the dog sports. Absolutely. So I mean, this is Super Bowl dog show. I think you got it. And you're you know, you to handle that kind of pressure now. In addition to you, Marcus Allen, there's going to be some other celebrities if we can just do a quick rundown, and we've got the extra host. Mario lopez. He's going to take care of those non sporting group, and he's got a French bulldog. Name. I love the name Julio Cesar Chavez Lopez. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's a lot. Of words. Actress MacKenzie west mart. She's got to take care of the hound group. And she has a greyhound named Asha. The multi platinum selling artists Brett young represents the toy group. He's gonna cap them with his pomeranian. Oscar, we got Olympic gold medalist. Shawn Johnson taking care of the sporting group and golden retriever Nash hallmark channel host Cameron Mathison with the working group, and he has a dog named red who who's a Doberman. Actor kellan lutz is the herding group captain for and has an Australian shepherd named coda. But again, Marcus Allen, I'm rooting for you and a terriers. I appreciate that. And I'll do respectable is wonderful people. And there are the the terrorist group is the best and particular team Wheaton. So I think we're going to take top honours. And all right. So how do you prepare for? How do you captain these guys? What are you doing man? We've talked a little trash. Good. Good. The competition. I love our dogs. And we got to the bath. That's what it's all about courage. All talk lovers. Reinvite everyone to share their photos of their family members on social media clogging at real Canaan in hashtag pin dog and share what their breathe they think. We'll take top honours AKC national championship off for the chance to have their dogs photo featured during the broadcast, so we can care everybody. Take photo. The other dog. And so everybody listened to what Marcus just said we're talking hash tag team dog. You can do it on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, tag, Royal Canaan and share hashtag team dog. So you might get your dog's photo in the TV special, which is pretty cool. And speaking of the dogs, they're coming from like forty nine states in twenty one countries. This is global. North america. Big time. Now you've done a lot of things in your life on and off the field. But this is a pretty big deal because we really love our dogs. Is there any pressure or how did you end up pressure for this? This is about loving your dog and showing what your dog does for you. And given I think it everybody an opportunity see a different side of you. And I think when we look at I think all families and pets are so special endorphin particular. And again, I grew up with dogs. They've been a part of my life forever. And I've had different breeds. But the latest one Joey we absolutely one of the best. So I'm thrilled to be part of this this campaign. Now, you're going to hear the sports writer coming out. And may I know back in the day, you got to team up with another legend Joe Montana when you finished your career Kansas City, and you got a seventy four yard TD run. When you guys won the AFC championship. I'm just wondering does oh we have moves like Marcus Allen when running around the art. Zoe has better than being I don't take a backseat. Let you take a back seat. And when it comes to boobs on quickness. And certainly again, I didn't realize it was still athletic. Yeah. When I sent her out in the yard we go to play I'm beat she's impossible to catch. And she usually wears out. So would be a good running back. I'm just thinking if you had an all dog football league. And you had breeds would you think breeds like terriers would be good in the backfield? And who would be good on the line? She would be my third down specialists. Okay. All right. All right. And she will pick up the third down because of the quickness super return, punts and kickoffs she's exciting. Chiefs explosive. That's why lover is there any dog breed that you think would be a good canine quarterback or a good linebacker or or. Because I'm just thinking would be a good quarterback. Probably like I'm thinking like Austrailia shepherd Einstein's have stood shepherd said well, labrador, the coda was you had to KOTA was in jeopardy. Labrador was best. So we I I was talking about my family or myself. We've had dogs as long as I can remember. But to decide who the quarterback would be. That's an interesting one. Yeah. We'll have to think about that. I'm just thinking it'd be a good linebacker to you know, you gotta have. I think I think like dobermans can just rush. And then they just pin. You don't you know, and the mastiff so I had an Akita too. So there you go. He was pretty good linebacker with very territorial. Go Marcus, look your next career. You might be. Story you could be doing. Canine football league, you never know. There could be hope there. A lot of fun. Yeah. I've worked for treats from Royal Canin. There you go. So with all this folks, we're having fun with Marcus Allen. But we do want you to tune in on January first, it's at six o'clock eastern and Pacific on animal planet to catch the AKC national championship. It's presented by Royal Canaan. And I love these shows I really do because you you find yourself rooting for your favorite breed or your favorite dog. As I mentioned, I have Kona who is my Jack Russell terrier mix. She's actually helps me teach pet first aid and pet behavior all over the country. But at one time I had a corgi so of like the herding group, and I had a husky mix. So I don't think I can loosen your upcoming AKC national championship dog show code. I know it seems like you've got all the briefs covered. So with Allison who wins. I think you're gonna turn out a winner. Vegas, right. Yes. Well, when I was checking your bio, Marcus, I will say this. I know in the performing arts, there's a thing called the very allusive title. And that's the got where you were somebody like a John legend where you win an EMMY Grammy and Oscar and a Tony looking at you like move over John legend all the things that you've won as a single individual to win college. And pros, I mean, I can't think of anybody else sits one all these accolades that I mentioned at the top of the show, that's an accomplishment. How do you? How do you handle that? How do you handle the fame, Marcus? Easy to handle. I think when you come from gratitude there, you go when you look at you know, the I mean all the kids that I grew up with and I played the cans always say, why me why was I so lucky I live with gratitude in so it's easy sort of not to you know, that the head get too big. But when I look back and reflect on the things that you've mentioned, I certainly do have pride in the fact that, you know, I'm sort of the, you know, the the one guy that holds all those titles, and frankly, the only guy that's right? That's right, which is sort of a testament to how my career went which they're very proud of. So it's a blessing. That's something that I try not to think about but I look back when flecked on very proud. Well, folks, I want you to dash over to his his Twitter. It's appropriate at Marcus Allen, H O F, which stands for of course, hall of fame. And I like the fact that when you're you also mentioned in on Facebook page. You really looked up to Jim Brown and Earl Campbell. And can you tell our listeners why? Well, the way they played the game is taking great pride in playing a game. The right way clean it at a high level, given everything you got and respecting your opponent. Even though you're trying to defeat them. Right. I think that with great enthusiasm. But there were exciting. I think they're great people. And I think that give back more to society than what people realize so always admired those two gentlemen. I consider them really good friends, and Jim in particular. I'm being he, you know, he played at a time that was socially very difficult to play. And yet he tries him that that you know, that era and has done great things for community. And so my hat's off to him, you know, and I love running backs in general, so. Because we know this is funny, but we in order to play that position you have to say to yourself and not air against but just that didn't nobody in the field better than you who they are regardless of how many do they have regardless. How many pro Bose they've been to whether their defensive MVP or whatever there's nobody to feel better than than you. That's the psychology this necessary to be a winner. So I think they all pro's again the same way, I agree. Now, we're going to talk a little bit more with Marcus Allen before we finish this episode of the show, but we're going to take a quick commercial break, so everybody sit stay cheer for your favorite dog breed. We'll be right back..
