"Chandler 95.5 wsb Atlanta's news and talk filling in for the illustrious mark Aaron giving you the best that we got. We are word on the street, or 95.5. W S. Kind of word on the street. But kind of it's kind of like a hybrid of everybody. I'm Melanie Chi from word on the street. Scotty B. Debra's here. We talked about it. Longoria's here She's from Wisconsin. Longoria, Texas. Chuck is from Montana. Scotty B. Is from Michigan. I am from India because I'm Cherokee. I was born in New York, but I'm Cherokee Indian. And so Deborah, you said, this is the best melting pot. I said, it's probably the most diverse that she got around here. Absolutely. So we are in here taking you up until seven o'clock, so happy to be with the gang. So much to talk about looking forward to what President Joe Biden has to say about five o'clock. Chris Chandler will cover that for you. But let's get right into it. One of the best local stories that Everybody's talking about not just in Atlanta, but in the sports world. Is the Braves. The Braves? Of course, at home tonight versus the Nationals got beat last night, Little going back and forth. Absolutely. So they really should win this one tonight. Phillies on their neck. So the Mets are coming back, So we'll watch that. But the Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna? Yeah, Couple months ago, he got charged with felonies. They dropped the felonies for domestic violence against his wife, right. These are now considered, uh I guess. Misdemeanors ownership. Absolutely. So, Debra, what happens today? Today he goes to court. The sports world is watching what is going to happen to this man who is a $64 million.04 Year man for the Atlanta Braves, So I think none of us are surprised. And maybe start coming is that he's agreed to some anger management classes. He's got to do a little bit of community service and probably make a P s A and they will then drop the charges. Anybody else agree these things? Charges will be dropped because now they're misdemeanors. Now, Longoria you think he's going to be back and he's going to do what Debra said, and come Back and just be great and help the Braves go on to maybe go to the World Series. I don't know about all that, but I think that I definitely think that, you know, they're probably probably give him a slap on the hand. And that really do much about what he did or get allegedly did. Okay, Chuck, are you a brave guy? No. Okay. Well, he doesn't. Even so he loves the Yankees. Yeah, Yeah, yeah. Hey, yeah. Yeah. Yankees Mets, but anyway, so I'm 100% with Deborah. It's a who didn't who didn't see this coming? When you see the version program that lets you know that's the green arrow like, Yeah, But even prior to that, he's a like I said, follow the money to $64 million signed a four year deal. He's a guy with money he's in power. He's his wife. I believe that his wife will. I could be wrong, but I'm paid to give my opinion. His wife will come out and she'll be standing next to him and his. I think they've already separated. Oh, okay. Think they're getting divorced, but I think but I think what she could do for me if I'm their PR people since you're doing this, and she's still getting a lot of money still come by, if they're separated and Say, Hey, I forgive him and let's move on. And if I'm there are people I say, Go ahead. Stand by him. Let's move on. Even though you're getting separated, say I forgive him. So is he coming back? I think he'll be back whether you like it or not, but watching it and many of us listening now, domestic violence is nothing nothing to play with. We probably some people have experienced it, but it's just that it's kind of the The nature of the beast. When you're when you have money when you're high in power, I think, Debra, I see the look on your face. I think you kind of just get away with stuff. And I don't know that he gets I know Scotty B but I think you kind of get away with stuff. But it had me thinking. I used to have an anger problem. I don't think yes, I don't think I'd beat it. Yes, yes. I don't think I beat anybody up. I don't think I hit anybody. And I used to have an anger problem. Thought I got it all together until this incident that I'm embarrassed about. But I'm going to confess. And I want us all to confess. Which will be one of our questions of the day. I want us to confess something Petty. That we've gotten angry about. "It prohibits players from applying rosin from the bag to their gloves or otherwise dusting any part of the uniform with the rosin bag, he admitted Santiago did to having rosin on his glove. And so they're saying you can put it on your arm and you can put it on your hand. It just can't touch your glove. And so I do wonder about why you're right about the conundrum. Exactly The kind of what is this? I don't understand what this has to do with anything. It's effectively what they're saying. Yeah, you just can't have it on the glove. We don't want you to mix it with anything. Bullfrog, I guess would be the point that you can't create some some extra substance anyway. That's that scandal number one in baseball this week and this other one. It's It's a touchy subject, and it's the Trevor Bauer situation has now been accused of assault of a woman that he had and relationship with outside of the game of baseball. But this is is a an issue for baseball. So much so that over the last 10 years, eight years or so carried baseball has, uh, created a demand domestic violence policy. I don't want to call it Task force, But they do have a policy now to look into this stuff to investigate this stuff when it happens, and when players are accused when coaches are accused when front office personnel are accused, and it's not just about violence, it's about harassment. And so this is a situation that is going to be difficult. I think for major league baseball to navigate, it's maybe the biggest name player. They've had a an accusation like this with in the modern day as far as which players have been suspended for this, and if we're just looking over the history of the game in the last few years There have been a number of players who've been suspended or asked to leave the game of baseball for domestic violence. So your your understanding of this situation carry has it as its been laid out for us, and I do want to say like when the Reuben Foster thing happened A few years ago, I gave takes on on the leadoff spotting on KNBR, and I felt After the fact because it was such a foggy and clouded situation because so much of this stuff is so dangerous and difficult to talk about, and so, uh, scary for the victims of these situations that becomes very difficult to sometimes understand some of these stories. I think it's in everybody's best interest to kind of wait on an absolute take on this and what should happen, Uh, to Trevor Bauer. Should this all be true? And should he be found guilty of this? I sort of wait until all the details come out. It's still a very like it's a living breathing story. Right now. This thing is happening as we talk about it, But your reaction to this carry and based on the history of what Major league baseball has dealt with. What do you make of this situation? And and maybe how this plays out on the league side of things? Well, it's it's obviously horrifying in the graphic nature of the account is really difficult to read. And you just feel for anyone who comes forward with an accusation like this, because the specificity of it makes you believe that it is not something that a woman would ever want to go through Whatever want to come public with And so you know, the first. The first course of action, of course, is is just empathy in and really Wondering what we You know what Major league baseball can do to get this rooted out of the game? Because it's horrific. And so what? Really struck me Cups was seeing that Trevor Bauer traveled with the Dodgers on their road trip, and I just don't know how you can allow that to happen. I think that if you're going to take cases like this seriously, if you're gonna take accusations like this seriously and You know, I I do think that there's every reason to do so. In this case, you cannot let him travel. You cannot let him continue to take the field until this is sorted out. And, you know, then there's some grey area, you know. Do you have every player stopped taking the field? When an accusation like this comes up? I don't know. I don't know all the answers to anything like this, but it is. It's really, really upsetting to read really horrifying and My thoughts are with with any victim of sexual assault or any victim of domestic violence, any victim of any crime because it's it's so difficult to, you know, process emotions like that and process What's taking place? And so I do think that The league needs to act swiftly. The league needs to get involved. And if the league is very serious about, uh, you know, players who commit crimes and players who, uh, you know, have offenses off the field. Then they need to be stepping in and making sure that Trevor Bauer is disciplined. Rightfully in this case, and this would not be a like a benchmark case. This is they have a policy in place and per what has happened. They said, historically just sort of sort of running off, you know, suspensions or issues like this that have happened er or assaults that have happened off the field. Addison Russell of the Cubs, he was an all Star 2016 World Series. A member of that team. He was suspended for two games and ultimately, I think, released by the Cubs went on to play in Korea last year during the pandemic, but he has not returned to Major League Baseball. Aroldis Chapman, at one point back in 2016 was suspended 30 games Or an assault on his girlfriend. At the time, the next general manager, former general manager Jared Porter, for sending inappropriate and abusive text messages has been suspended or placed on the banned list through 2022. Mickey Callaway, former manager of the Mets and then pitching coach under Joe Maddon, and with the Indians and different teams has been suspended through 2022 for lewd acts and Marcell Ozuna. He's another one like Trevor Bauer this season, who was actually on the injured list right now rehabbing a couple of broken fingers. I believe He was arrested a couple of weeks ago for a domestic violence, assault on his wife. And so he's waiting, he says, for the truth to come out about that, But baseball has not yet acted on the Marcelo Xena or Trevor Bauer front, and they have launched an investigation. They've said they're aware of this situation, but to your point periods, it's a little surprising The Dodgers themselves did not did not say Hey, maybe maybe that's to to not have you travel with the team, or maybe best to step away for a little while, while we figure this situation out, But baseball To everything you just said, is going to have to come up with an answer or some sort of response to this, because, as you said, the details of this are horrified. So if you'd like to look into it, there is more information out there. But I think Wolf will refrain from giving it an absolute take her thought on this as to what should happen until more of the details come out just out of the sensitivity and and respect for those involved. No. Do you have every player stopped taking the field when an accusation like this comes up? I don't know. I don't know all the answers to anything like this, but it is. It's really, really upsetting to read really horrifying and my thoughts are with with any victim of sexual assault or any victim of domestic violence. Any victim Of any crime because it's it's so difficult to, you know, process emotions like that and process what's taking place? He was suspended for two games and ultimately, I think, released by the Cubs went on the plane Korea last year during the pandemic, but he's not return to Major League Baseball. Aroldis Chapman, at one point back in 2016 was suspended 30 games Or an assault on his girlfriend. At the time, the Mets general manager, former general manager Jared Porter, for sending inappropriate and abusive text messages has been suspended or placed on the banned list through 2022. Mickey Callaway, former manager of the Mets and then pitching coach under Joe Maddon, and with the Indians and different teams has been suspended through 2022 for lewd acts and Marcell Ozuna. He's another one. Like Trevor Bauer this season was actually on the injured list right now rehabbing a couple of broken fingers. I believe He was arrested a couple of weeks ago for a domestic violence, assault on his wife. And so he's waiting, he says, for the truth to come out about that, But baseball has not yet acted on the Marcelo Xena or Trevor Bauer front, and they have launched an investigation. They've said they're aware of this situation, but to your point periods, it's a little surprising The Dodgers themselves did not did not say maybe maybe best to to not have you travel with the team, or maybe best to step away for a little while, while we figure this situation out, But baseball to everything you just said, is going to have to To come up with an answer or some sort of response to this, because, as you said, the details of this are horrifying. So if you'd like to look into it, there is more information out there, But I think we'll we'll refrain from giving it an absolute take her thought on this as to what should happen until more of the details come out just out of the sensitivity and and respect for those involved. So carry on the other side into our next part of the podcast here. It's the sound sort of a man some great sound from baseball Earlier this week, we talked a little bit about the sticky stuff. Lucas Giolito and Josh Donaldson. And added, not just them as E. G and gets involved Chris Russo of Mad Dog Radio in serious He's got a great take on what's happening with baseball, and why there's a major problem with people not paying attention. All of that is coming up on the corpse and Crowley podcaster listening to KNBR one. Oh 456. 80 can br dot com. It's the sports leader. You're.

Big Bat, Loud Music: The Marcell Ozuna Experience

"Well david the braves made a run all the way to the last season and marcelo soon. It was a huge part of that. Can you remind us just how productive he was for the braves throughout this shortened season extremely productive at three thirty eight with a one thousand sixty seven opie s led the al in both homers with eighteen and rb is with fifty six high towering. Fly ball tepe center. Make it a three hundred night over. The batter's i straightaway center. I don't know if i've ever seen a ball go up there at fenway. I was saying the same thing up with the cameras are. He's a threat to win the triple crown. The last weekend in the season when his average fell back just a little bit still finished third batting average so he led the league in total bases. One hundred forty five was tied for second next since with thirty two and was third both obt at four thirty one and slugging percentage six thirty six so like i said extremely productive. If you watch a braves game you don't have to look too far for some marcelo. Zona antics was oona. Hits this ball eight hundred feet after he hits it he does a nice little stroll towards first and then he decides you know what. I'm just going to take a selfie right here. Tell us a little bit about his personality. What it meant for the clubhouse this past season. I can't think of another player that they could have signed to a one year deal like they did him a year ago in january and still have had in a year of kovin to have somebody come in and have the kind of profound impact he had on a team. You had to have a personality like he has which was really outgoing. He's a kind of gregarious guy. Everybody on the team lights. Not just what he does on the field but in the club house the energy the zone as a total package in every plays he's revered is kind of guy that he's so likable that he can play at boombox with salsa music at three in the morning on the team bus from the airport hotel. Crank it up and everybody just smiles instead of going turn off. That's the kind of personality has everybody loves. it was gonna signed a one year deal with atlanta. Just before last season he became a free agent and after months of uncertainty he finally decided to resign with atlanta. Recently four years sixty five million dollars for a guy that brought incredible protection to freddie freeman in his mvp year he exceeded expectations in atlanta. As you wrote david. His personality was on display during a recent zoom. Call with some reporters. What did you learn about his philosophy. Well he kind of put it specifically he said. I cannot have a bad day on the field as person. War is still happy because no everyday you will not be perfect day. You will not you. When i made they walk there. Were right so you had to be like in in in google. Not every day. You're going to make the world right so you have to be like always in a good mood. I don't worry about just going happy and bringing Like let's go. Let's go from it up meals. -i duck fung joke everything long. Talk have fun joke everything. That's the way you put it at the kirby cross. Everybody was just laughing as perfect. That's you. He refuses to let disappointments during the day whether they be over. Four day with three strikeouts or somebody on another team acting like an ass. It just doesn't let any of that. Get to take a person. Let's all roll off his back and kind of sees his role as always being there to bring everybody else up be energetic and spread that everybody
