"Nature. This is Katrina from Maplewood, New Jersey. I was going to put my son in camp. But we're getting a little skittish about that. My daughter's internships have fallen through and so what we have is a very small beach house, and I'm thrilled that two years ago I bought this little place that we could just go hang out at walk to the beach and just be in the house and enjoy each other's company, because that's all we have for this summer. This is Karen from like a week or again. Well, I was hoping that my kids are grown up. And grandkids that lives in New York and North Carolina were able to visit me this summer for the first time in Oregon since I moved here 10 years ago from New York. And unfortunately, those plants of having them come out here this summer is not going to happen, so I hope maybe for next summer things will be okay. I enjoy taking my dog for a walk every day to the park and enjoying gardening and organic gardening Also, and oh, and the pleasures now being able to have the opportunity to clean out the garage going through old boxes from my life in New York. It's like Christmas time, opening them up and seeing all the memories. Of my past is Robert grow from Salt Lake City, and normally I'd be calling you from Italy spent nearly every summer for the last 20 years. Come right, teach voice and directing operas. Obviously, we are not in Italy, so women felt like city. And finding it very, very difficult to replace that experience really, really hard. But, um, enjoying time with my wife and dogs and working in the yard doing projects that wouldn't got done. Some of you told us that living below the poverty line has nearly 40 million Americans did in 2017 has usually meant no summer vacations or big plans to begin with. Hi. This is Nikki from Arlington, Texas. A fortunate thing about having lived under the poverty level for over 25 years, But we never have a kid Summer vacation plans to foil we would occasionally take a trip. Is it family or day trip to some obscure town in Texas?.

How 3M plans to reach 100 percent renewable electricity
"Support for climate cast comes from Bank of America as one of the largest global financial institutions Bank of America is in a unique position to help society. Transition to a low-carbon economy Bank of America, NA member FDIC Gail, let's start with specifics here. What are the numbers for renewable power goals for three m and by win first of all we were able to announce that we are fully committed to renewable electricity at three m we have signed onto the are you one hundred which commits us to a hundred percent global operations with renewable electricity by twenty fifty. We've advanced our current goal. That's twenty five percent by twenty twenty five to make it fifty percent by twenty twenty-five. So doubling that goal and we're very excited that last week. We're able to turn the switch on for one hundred percent renewable and electricity at three AM center on March first and how many buildings at three M'S facility and Maplewood and Maplewood we have over thirty buildings and. We have about twelve thousand employees. So it looks like the contract purchases eighty thousand megawatt hours of wind energy mostly from wind farms in pipe stone. What's the ultimate balance of power sources going to be going forward? Do you have a gauge on that? Well, when we look at the global footprints, it ends up being multiple pieces that we have engaged. So we will definitely have pieces that have wind and solar some of that is onsite as we do have some on-site at three AM centers. Well, and as well as other facilities around the world, and some of it will be through PPA's as well as agreements with utilities, and you know, the business around your new Ables is evolving all the time. And we're exploring a lot of the different options for that. Why do this now is it just good PR or will it save three money in the long run? Well, when we look at the long run for three m we believe that it's the right thing to do both for the business. And for the broader societal impact, we've recently launched. Our sustainability framework and climate is an important piece of that. So moving to renewable electricity is essential. What about skeptics who might say three Emma's just doing this for PR benefit? Well, we tell people about it too is a benefit. It's also a nice benefit for our employees. I will tell you that we have been committed to sustainability since day one over forty years ago, we launched an iconic program called pollution prevention pays or three P that has saved the company over two billion dollars and two million metric short tons of of waste over time. And we're always about raising the bar around sustainability. Whether it's the products that we give to our customers or what we do in our own operations. So as part of the corporate analysis, then you can save money on this. It's good for business. It's good for shareholders absolutely three m said, it's combined green efforts to cut waste and energy and water helped it a record a sixty eight percent reduction in greenhouse. Gas emissions since two thousand two to calculate a cost savings there as well. Yeah. That's actually all included in that pollution prevention pays program that I mentioned previously. So it's a combination some things that we need to do we need to make an investment upfront in order to create that environmental impact. But then it pays back over time. It's been an important learning and continue to evolve that way for ourselves. And for things we do for our customers. Gail you're the corporate sustainability officer at three m and if I'm not mistaken, you're a nuclear physicist is that true. Oh, that's funny. Going back a long ways. Yeah. My parents were both teachers and my mother taught special education, my dad taught chemistry. So I was kind of rebellious in going into physics instead of chemistry and specifically not to exactly follow. My father's footprints. But one of the things that was interesting with that is that. Because they were both teachers we have the summers off, and we would go camping in the national parks. So I'm in a really unique spot. Now, I find myself that I have that scientific background that was instilled to me from very early age this concept of giving back and community connectedness along with nature, and it fits really well with with what three M'S goals are about really applying science to help improve lives around the world. How much has the corporate landscape on climate sustainability changed in the past ten years for companies like three m and your peers. Yeah. Really interesting question. I think that I think that there's it's been a fascinating time to be in a corporate environment in a technical environment in the last decade, both the combination of the advancements externally with thinking about climate in the scientific analysis, but also with corporations in the idea of responsibility for all of our environmental aspects. So I would say that things have changed tremendously and continue. To exceleron exceleron in the way that they change. And is there anything else that you think our audience should know about the way three m and for that matter other companies, these days are thinking about sustainability as part of your business model, we think about sustainability is part of our business model is in overall consideration of all of our stakeholders. Yes, it includes shareholders yesterday includes employees, and yes, it includes our broader communities when we think about sustainability, we have three key pillars that we think about it three m and it's all about applying science to improve lives. So the first pillar is about science for the circular economy. Circularity second is about science for climate. And the third is about science for communities. Dr Gail Schuler chief sustainability officer with three M. Thanks so much for your perspective today. Very welcome. It's been a pleasure to be here. Thank you so much for having me.

"By Maplewood senior living, and we're continuing our conversation today with Brian mcchord from the evil channel Bryant. I mean you, and I know each other know each other now for a while when I first met you I was in the throes of starting to dig into that hole. And then the more things change for for b. The depot I was digging. But I didn't realize I was digging. I just thought I was holding on. And I think the toughest thing what you just said that even now having gone through. It haven't seen. Where I was by virtue of where I am now coming back. You don't realize how how low how down you get until you either make the turnaround or rebel to the best of your abilities back to what is now sort of a new normal. And what I've found that you're trying to to do with the with the channel is to give people a sense of understanding that you don't know where you are until you have the ability to see others go through it and see how they're reacting to it. And see some of the let's say some of the possibilities of what they're experiencing. So I think that what you're trying to accomplish. Is monumental. But it's so elementary, you know, people who are hurting and people who had taken care of those people. Have a symbiotic relationship with the with the feelings of what those people in the hopelessness. And obviously that hopelessness creates a sense of desperation and depression. No question. I mean, emotional exhaustion for caregivers.
