"We have four locations, which is kind of exciting. We have can't Burien. Tacoma maple valley and also very spread out a little bit. Yeah. Three hundred square miles, and we just had a grand opening here at maple valley. We opened up our birth to three that Clara did a great job of coordinating that and we had like seventy five people there and elected officials as well and went very well. Claire did a great job for that. And let's talk about the kids. They know when you talk about special needs will kind of special needs. Because I I don't know if a parent here's that they can narrow that down to maybe their own child or someone they know, but it's actually kind of wide, isn't it. Well, it has autism and down syndrome. We also have cerebral palsy, and what has happened over the forty years. We've noticed that it has evolved. More from cerebral palsy to really autism. And of the I think the great thing our staff. What they do is that they really create life changing for our children like the summary. We social skills for our children and in Tacoma and Burien Kent maple valley, and that has really helped because sometimes children with autism. Have trouble relating to other children? And so we taught them how to would you introduce yourself. How you looking at other people's is how you shake their hand. And also how how you interact with each other which I think is extremely important. So we did a great job with that suburban birth to three we three to eighteen and that has made a huge impact on the children that reserve like I said earlier we served over thirty four hundred children this past year. Sorry, it's been a great year for us and our staff to a wonderful job. And is it like, I don't know. What's the percentage of kids that do have special needs? It's sort ten percent to fifteen percent is probably. The center for disease CDC wherever that is. They estimating that Nash nationwide. It's about one out of sixteen kids has some kind of a developmental delay or disability. So the severity on that on that range could could be something kinda mild or something a little bit more serious. But when I was sixteen and I think that's certainly the case in Washington state, and it's on the rise, particularly for something like autism. As berry said, we're seeing a lot more children on the spectrum these days with autism than we might have seen, you know, ten fifteen years ago and our services like yours available or have they been I mean forty years ago there weren't. Services like you guys and more and more. Parents do find that their kid gets diagnosed with autism. And where do they go? I mean, the CDC children's therapy centre is one of them for location, but but when a parent of a newborn to really young, and I guess getting the diagnosis early is a big deal to we can talk about that later too. But what are those what are those options for people because they're not school aged children? And I don't know what insurance covers anymore. These days. We're really the referrals. Gary come from pediatricians, the majority of them and also from other family members. And then one of the things that are therapists dues, we do an intake. And then those parents are able to check in with our staff, and then we schedule an appointment for them to come in and meet with us. There are twenty. Neural development or centers across the state of Washington. We're the largest in in Washington from like I mentioned earlier down from Tacoma work closely with joint base Lewis mcchord. We also in canton Buren maple valley in Tacoma area. And so then once they come into our system than our therapists work, real close with them one of the things, which I think make our program really unique from the other nineteen within the state is that we have our parents involved in the therapy. And so we have parents who are in the therapy room with them. We don't have parents sitting out in the waiting room. They come in they work with and they observe our therapists working with the children. They also are able to take the lessons that they learned from our therapists, go home and work with those children at home throughout the week. So we work with them on a weekly basis, the the children boy that sounds really important. And that I guess you said that's unique. I mean for a parent. Can send their kid off to therapy or school, or you know, and not quite know everything that went on. But to really involve them in that because when a parent finds themselves with a child with special needs their life is changed. So they might as well learn everything that's going to go along with it that does sound unique is it. Well, it's very unique. I think we're the only one in the state that really does that kind of therapy. You know, we want to demystify closing what goes beyond the the the door. Nice demystify. What goes on? Yeah. So once they walk into that therapy room there with the therapist. They can see the child see how much progress they've made with the children. I mean, our therapists really do change lives. They create more help and hope than I believe a lot of other individuals do and so that's what makes us so exciting. So let's talk about some of the skills taught. I mean, a therapist. There's speech therapy. Occupational therapy. Physical therapy. It could with down syndrome might have a fine motor development skills. Right. And so what kind of M? I right. What is the what are those things entail again? Let's demystify a little bit. Yeah. What you know pediatric therapy is so different than a therapy for adults and often as adults, we think physical therapy occupational therapy for kids. It's it's fun therapy is fun. And I think the more we can get our heads around around that as adults to understand that concept the better because we are serving kids where they are in their lives and the way that children learn is through play. And so when they come into therapy there, they look like they're playing, and they think they're playing and they're having a good time. But they're also learning skills like like. Barry said how to work with other children how to pick up a fork and and eat. They're learning how to take their first steps, but they're not they're doing it in a way that almost as sort of. It's kinda sneaky, you know, you're you're taking your first steps to get to that toy that you really want also sitting on a swing. So you the child has to think about how they're going to get over to that spot, and the therapists, and the parents are there sort of guiding them to do that. And you know, they do it a few times with some help. And then they do it by themselves, and before you know, it you start seeing some progress. And that's where it is. It's incredibly exciting to watch these kids make progress, and I think our staff do a fabulous job doing that. I mean, one of the things if you were to come into one of our force for centers, one of the things you would hear us receptions, announcing that your child is here to play. And so welcome to to see TC because it is this whole thing of creating this environment where children can play enjoying. Themselves. They're also learning in regards to their own. Progress in disability and helping them become a better person. Well, let's talk about Kim. This get them ready for school. And I don't independence. I mean. Yeah. I'm going to fork to their mouth. I mean. Yeah, I guess I never thought that a lot of kids especially can't feed themselves unless they get so really getting taught in the let's take this to then this early age two zero birth to three. Yeah. They're they're learning life skills, and you know, not every child will will develop that fell all develop in different ways. And it depends on what's going on with him. But but but independence is one of the goals that we have that all parents have for their child, but independence might look good for one child might look one way for one child and another thing for another child. There's some kids won't eat on their own ever. There's some kids that will need continued support throughout their lives. So therapists have to navigate that conversation with parents and help parents understand their different degrees of independence, but independence, still feels good. No matter what you can do. And so that's really what what our goal is there. And then the social skills he talked about a little earlier. I mean that can get them independent to be ready for school. Right. So that a teacher doesn't have to be one on one with that child in the room. Every time is that a goal must be why that's true, Gary. I mean, one of the things that were always. Trying to help children is so they are independent so they able to walk able to eat they're able to talk on their own. In fact, one of the things we do. In addition to the occupational therapy. Physical therapy, speech and language is a fact we also teach feeding and is. Pretty unbelievable. The fact that children some children who cannot eat and they're on feeding tubes. And then we help them move from feeding tubes to actually eating and that is a joyous occasion. When when parents and children able to eat on their own if it's a real celebration dot only for the children, and the parents, but also for the staff to I mean, it it is a great time when children able to eat also to have more independence in regards to walking and eating and that's part of our job. I think that's one of the things are staff. Do such a great job is helping those children navigate through the those different areas. If you will and learning how to be more independent..
