Other animal results, the pirates swept a double header and the brewers, D backs, Phillies, Dodgers, Marlins, and reds were winners. This is Bloomberg daybreak and we're pleased to be joined this morning by SD dweck chief investment officer at Flo bank as we assess this market SD good morning. There have been so many headlines crossing on the unfolding crisis in crypto, the contagion playing out in that space. Do you see any risk of contagion beyond crypto from what's happening with FTX? Good morning. At this point, it doesn't appear likely. We've already had almost a week of these headlines. We've seen that some of the big cryptos like Bitcoin have surprisingly still held up decently and we haven't seen that much contagion across the spectrum into the equity market. So it does feel like it's going to stay contained into crypto. But it does also feel like there's a little bit of a snowball effect within crypto with other big companies at risk. So it might be too early to say for sure, but so far so good, I'd say. All right. Well, in the meantime, as for what's happening in the market more broadly, a lot of the focus, of course, is on the path for central banks. We just got a warning this morning from the OECD that central banks around the world should keep raising interest rates to fight inflation. Does that affect your outlook for risk investments? Not at this point, we've had very well telegraphed information from the Federal Reserve in particular, and I do believe that is still the Central Bank that matters for Europeans. We want to watch a little bit with the ECB death as well, but everyone is taking their cue from the fed. And we've had the speakers come out and continue to tell us they're going to hike rates. You know some of it you have to take with a great assault when you hear the 5 to 7% range, but that terminal rate is around four 75, 5%, disinflation indicators are continuing pretty much across the board. And so the fed is slowly coming to the end of its tightening campaign. I think where you have a little bit of a risk is later in 2023, if inflation stalls out again or doesn't continue to drop and then the fed has to revise those terminal rate expectations and the market has to adapt again. I think that's a big risk. But for now, we're probably going to get those 50 basis points in December. Maybe another 25 in January and we should get that long awaited post. Well, how do you rebel or do you rebalance portfolios in the face of higher for longer rates? I think we are hearing from a lot of central bankers that the terminal rate could stay elevated for quite some time. I think that's exactly what they've worked on. Keeping that higher for longer, trying to price out those interest rate cuts that the market is looking for at the end of 2023. And really, I mean, we've had quite a few months of this. We had the summer pivot or their lack of pivot and then we've had a couple of other of these expectations and the fed has really slept the market back down every time. So at this point, there's not so much to rebalance in the portfolio. It does feel like the yield in the peak and yields, excuse me, is in and that suggests that the bond allocations don't have to sort of be rebalanced a little bit that you can rebalance between credit and sovereigns a little and then we'll have to see not quite full on bullish until the end of the year for equities, but starting to look a little less bad if the peak and yields isn't as well. Yeah, speaking of that, perhaps not so bullish sentiment. We just got another note from Goldman Sachs this morning, saying not just the S&P 500 level, but earnings on S&P 500 companies are going to stay flat through into next year. What's your view on that? Well, we've already priced in a lot of downgrades in the earnings expectations. And pretty much everyone knows that the 2023 numbers probably have to come down a little bit as well. We've seen that the expectations for the Q four earnings season have gone from gone from something like a 6% growth expectation to zero or even negative for the fourth quarter so that lines up with what Goldman suggested. The market's already pricing in a big, big adjustment in the earnings expectations. And I think we'll have some kind of some kind of stabilization come through in 2023. And very quickly, the market is going to stop looking at this Q four data and start to look at guidance for next year. All right. As always, great to get your thoughts. Right now, the right to same sex marriage is the law only because of a 2015 Supreme Court decision which many fear is now in jeopardy. For more a Bloomberg student Grasso speaks to Catherine Frankie, director of Columbia law school's center for gender and sexuality law. What's motivating this push to get a same sex marriage bill passed? Well, I think there are a few things. I don't understand why people care i don't care if there's an ad on the ellen or not that is my throat punch to the people that are complaining about this because in anything you do was advertising it so why can't the nhl advertise on their most notable product. Which is the players. So people always send. Oh yeah it's going to end up like this. Where the european teams have ads. All over their sweaters and pants and socks. I told you and i spoken about this. I went to the game and berlin last year landed was playing there right. Nobody looked like they weren't having a good time. That was the best game atmosphere. I'd been at in a long time. Remember back in the day. Because i was playing. I hate saying that. Jesus back in the day down anyway. There were no ads on the boards and when they put the first few ads on we were like. That's ridiculous those save never last. Now you're like you don't even notice them unless you see it in its advertising. What about the four places on the ice where the ads are what. I can't believe they haven't done. "Winning battles That's vital to any team to have success and that's something that That regardless of kyle's interest in analytics like you said to me analytics is just information. And if there's good information in his bad information but what's most important is what you do with that information. And when i first met him one of the things. I was really impressed with was sort of had a good idea what what bad information was. Valuable information was and As he's grown under lou lamoriello and the success that he had with the with the marlies And and sheldon what he's done is coach. coming up through the system. I just thought that they really had a good concept of how to balance the to your you mentioned sheldon rate at the end here so this is first full goal forum and it's pretty clear he's putting his stamp on how he wants things to go and not taking over a team that was in mid stride or mid stream or whatever you played for arguably the greatest coach of all time i just came from the world junior tournament in eager larry on told me that it was like sitting in the front role of a classroom with a professor but it was never always easy. So can you think of one scotty story because there's eight million that you can about how you had to figure each other out because it was not always the smooth path right. Oh no it was never smooth that you know what behind it. All status scotty and it wasn't It wasn't pleasant every day. And that's the other thing people think all when you're a winning team you want your your winning these championships or you're a contender. It's just pleasant every day. No it's it's still tough every day. You still have controversies and things like that but At the end like behind it all no matter how we felt about him on that particular day you might be. You might be happy with your coach. Might be mad at your coach. you know. Inevitably he made and so there was a trust build up there and sometimes we almost like grudgingly look back and add a line change. He had made or we'd sort of what is he doing. And then we'd score. We'd be like oh man. He did it again. he's smart he's smart But we all wanted to have a relationship with them but he wouldn't let that happen and he kept us he. He likes for us to be off balance he liked for us. I think to have to deal with adversity On the flip side if there was no adversity in a game of we were winning six. Nothing against the last place team in the third period. Scotty would not be quiet behind the bench. He was honest. Like it's like we're winning. Six seven eight nothing in scott. He just won't shut up now. He just he's talking about a show. You're not supposed to say shadowed. Scotty stop yelling. Stop seeing them. Wanna shutout up. Complaining about dropped passes complain.

May maybe even around the league a little bit and lyon matters. You've got jumbo. Wayne simmons bogosian. You mentioned jason spencer. How involved were you in that process of maybe dates back to acquire jake muslim where you recognize. Look we're still a young team are young so bring in these experienced guys now like joe forton could and probably will make a pretty big difference. I mean there's there's you describe young a bunch of different ways and some people would just use young as an excuse or or a bit of a crutch and to me That's not what this is about anytime you can like. I am foremost you've got to be able to play because it doesn't matter Who you are what your name is like. If you don't feel like you're contributing to the team in your corner of the team you get kleiner you get quite in the dressing room. You'll get quieter on the ice. So so we all recognize that that you have to have an important role and you have to feel good about your game to have a presence. In to have an impact on the mariners into matthews and in the young players in our organization that are still maybe not even in our lineup. Maybe not even making the leafs but get to see what these guys doing the gym every day. And get to see what these guys do. Practice every day So it's incredibly important. What what i would say to. Everyone is You know we we believe in balance. And i think that you're constantly seeking that out just the nature of the way that you build things in that you build. Nhl teams You don't always have the balance that you're seeking Like instantly and so. I think that You know constantly trying to move you're constantly trying to improve You're constantly trying to make your team better Other teams are are trying to be better than you trying to knock you a knock you down and and that's the nature of the competition. But i think that you know everything we did in this offseason Was meant to do to add more balance and get make ourselves a team. That not only. We've we've had some or some regular season success and we haven't had the kind of playoff success that we now think that we're capable of. I think that it's just trying to get over that hump get to that next level and you know the players that we've drafted developed Are great players and they want it. They love being maple leafs They you know. I've seen not only one difference. I've really seen here as a lot of ontario guys wanting to come home wanting to play for the leafs Wanting to be a part of that. So that's exciting. But ultimately everything gets decided on on.

Your place seriously man. I know i know well you eaten for a week. I know well okay and you've rattled holly dreger you because you also made a comment. Jeez drinks you guys eat a lot of meat and you do because you've got smoker which we keep hearing about our now so i'm hoping you put this plate of ribs out on twitter on andrex.
