"We've not got a lot of time came before before we run out, but predictions, what are you where are you going? Oh, okay, I'll do semis then final. Medford versus FAA. Sorry, nori. And then I'm sorry. I love that. I'm going sinner alcaraz because I want to see a repeat of them playing each other. I want to see if alcaraz configure and center out. But then I have actually got a final between Medvedev and sinner, so I'm guessing alcaraz isn't going to figure it out just yet and Medvedev is my champion. What about you? I've gone Medvedev nori semifinal. I think they're going to have a replay of the lost cabos final in the semis in Montreal and then in the bottom half I've got alcaraz bertini. I think baritone and sinner are going to play each other in round three and baritone is going to come out on top and I think, yeah, he's going to go all the way through to the semis. But I've got a I've got a Medvedev alcaraz final, which I think could be pretty entertaining. I'm hoping, and I've got Medvedev's champion. I think he's just came back on tour. I was very impressed with how he played in Los cabos. Yeah, there may be question marks over the level of players in that tournament, but given what I saw against norrie and against kick manovich as well, I think, yeah, I think he's going to live up to being top seed in the tournament. I mean, I'd be happy with a Medvedev alcaraz final. That would be that'd be great. And then just looking at the women's side of things, eager from tech is the top seed. So both world number ones in action in that contemplate second seed and obviously the likes of Sam alenko Zachary, everyone else there. It's a strong field. Especially that top quarter Kim, that top quarter is seriously stacked. Yeah, I mean, Naomi as ark obviously unseated. She's up against kayaking epi. Obviously, recent violence. And then we've got a certain Serena Williams in there as well. Ben chic Fernández, yeah, it's super stack. I mean, even Sean Tex first match probably potentially going to be against scooter metaphor. He got to the semis, this week got just gone. I mean, a lot of people obviously saying most popular choice to kind of win this event, but you know, she didn't have a great Wimbledon or the Poland open, which she lost to Garcia. I know she's probably been obviously focusing on these events, the hard court swing for the last couple of weeks, but I don't know. I'm less convinced by her than as I was prior to Wimbledon when she was just winning everything. So and we've also got quite a few same nationality match ups, which we've got Stevens, Sloane Stephens, Sophia kennan, which is a massive former Grand Slam champions. We've got Pliskova versus critique of Czech Republic and of course gim, Caroline Garcia versus Elise Cornell and French matchup. Yeah, as always, like, cracking first round matches. I mean, casso kina andreescu as well, that's a great round one match. That is. I mean, if I'm just wanted to do something like at home, she's got, you know, someone who's very much informed right up from the word go and also potential second round against potentially glossier. So it's not going to be an easy draw Andres who wants to replicate some of the magic from what three summers ago. I mean, Venus Williams also write at the bottom of the draw on a wild card. We've got Rebecca there. She's got bukha who's, you know, won a title recently. She's in good form as well. And Emma radar Carney, of course, is there, but Camilla Georgia is an open art, not easy. No, that is not easier at all. And just a word on bush Gewehr she qualified. She paid tatyana Maria in the final qualifying round for Toronto, which for me is crazy given how well both of those players did in Wimbledon, but again, it's just the impact of having no ranking points during the event, which is, it feels a bit of a shame because both those players did so well and yet running into each other in not even in the main draw. It feels a bit of a feels a bit of a shame. Yes, just the way it goes. I'm afraid as it is. It's tough out there at the top. I mean, let's make some predictions before we finish up for today, Joel. Who are your semis and your finals and your champion? So I am going to go with schwinn tech keener in the top half and I've got but dosa coco Goff in the bottom half. Fion tech gough final and I'm going to go with eager spontaneity. I think she's going to put the Poland open, cast that cast that side and she's going to get back to back to business and I just can't believe she's played so well on all the I think she's won her last three hardcore events that she's played so I just can't I can't not back eager to be on tech, I think. So I'm going to show you on tech is my champion. Okay, I'm not going for her actually. I'm sure she'll prove me wrong. But I have gone for sure on tech kazaki as a semifinal. I've also gone for Jesse pagola against Marie buskovich. I just think I was going to maybe go a bit further. Now she's qualified. Just because she can. And she may. And I've got a final between Kazakhstan and pagola. And despite kazakhi winning last week, I'm going for Jesse pagola to win the title. And I've written down brackets. Why not? So we'll see about that. Well, I mean, that bottom half. I mean, particularly that bottom quarter is just feels very, very open, sabalenka and cultivated the two top seeds that not both not in great form, sabalenka. I think lots of Kathy and I got bagel in the third set and cultivate I just think it's a

"From him, given his time on the sidelines for reasons that we've discussed, and I feel like that's actually quite a big week for him. I think it's big for him, as you said, to come back from not playing for a while. And also to win a final again. He didn't want a final since the U.S. open. Last year, he lost 5 in a row. And put in a couple of quite dodgy performances. I'm thinking mainly of the one against zverev in the ATP finals and the one against our man Tim van right over a few weeks ago, but he looked good in this one, and nori, I think, broke back, didn't he? Right at the end of that first set when Medvedev had set points and nori broke back and right there I was thinking, oh, here we go again, maybe for Medvedev. And then he didn't lose another game in the entire match. He just stretched his advantage and was brilliant. Some of his back cam winners, some of his defensive points to, I think, especially to get the double break in the second set. He looked really good and yeah, this is traditionally his time of year. It's the surface and the sort of environment that he seems to really like playing in and yeah, if he's well rested compared to some of the others, it could end up being beneficial for him, I suppose. You know, such a long season, we sell off and talk about players needing brakes, and obviously this one is not just a break that he's chosen to take. It was kind of enforced upon him, and he wouldn't have wanted it. It was probably a lot to deal with, I suppose. In terms of justifying whether it was fair and all that kind of thing, I'm sure he was wrestling with big questions like that. But just the actual practicality of it might end up sort of favoring him in this time of the year. Who knows? Doubles in Los cabos won by a mimic hits manovich who I had didn't know play doubles before this week and William Bloomberg, who I didn't know existed before this week, so let's call that a surprise win for limbo and get

"Be a real shame if Emma goes ahead with this. I mean, it's pretty harsh work. Do you really think the Kremlin are going to care that much about what Emma radical who is doing or who she's employing? I mean, I think that's a bit much. The only thing that maybe of sort of more practical reason is the fact that apparently personal was sometimes not able to get visas to travel with a neck on debate. I guess because of the situation. So I assume he's okay to get into the U.S. and I assume that they would know that that's okay having just got together now, but that could be if it's a long-term thing, something she has to consider. And I think the article I was reading, they said that last year personal was asked about Emma changing her coaching situation quite a lot. And he said, oh, if someone from her team, this is his quote, if someone from her team called me now and asked if I wanted to train her, I would tremble with fear because you don't know when you'll be fired. So obviously, you know, he had previously thought all this is a bit much, like the number of coaches she's going through, but he's willing to take it on and who's obviously taking the plot and I hope it works out for them. He's quite a colorful character. I always remember he had some great matches with Tim henman. When he was back on the back on the tour, but yeah, I think he knows the game. This is not just an Emma situation. We see this with lots of other players, coaching, coaching on the tour. It's a ruthless and brutal landscape and we're talking about this as if like this could be next big coach, but the reality is it could just be two weeks and it didn't work out and we move on. So we just don't really know, but I think at the moment, given what we know about rady Carney, we had an episode with Mike Dixon from the daily mail about his book on Emma. And her appetite for the game and she's always, I think, willing to kind of trial and test new avenues, regardless of if people are going to kind of look down upon it, for example, test not being from Russia, but given that she just has that sort of appetite to learn. I think she just kind of sees right through that and I do think there is something there that personal and Emma could potentially Jell-O the given both their styles I think do sort of go hand in hand with each other and the sorts of players as well I think the Tesla has already coached. I think we've had a carnival can be molded into that sort of vein as well. Yeah, well, watch this space. Let's see what happens over the next 6 weeks. On more positive, well, I don't know if this is positive news, new coach for Emma. Other positive news, Ashbaugh, he got married the other day in a ceremony in Queensland, so that was nice to see the pictures doing the rounds on social media. Marrying her partner, Gary kissick, so yeah, congratulations, ash Barty, even. I love she got married to Gary Cassidy. They met, I think, at met a few years ago now, but he's a trainee professional at brookwater golf club. So you know that golf is not too, it's never too far is it from ash party. You do wonder like, that feels like a relationship that's golf is never going to be too far away, is it? She's going to be on the women's PGA before you know it. What is a 3D professional mean? Does that mean he's training to be a professional or a good question? Good question. Wording. You don't say like, oh, I have a trainee tennis player. Maybe I don't know. I'm not a golfing expert. Listeners, let us know what that actually means. Back to the tennis. We've got Washington, D.C.. This week, which is exciting. ATP 500 event that is. And we've also got two 50 there for the women as well. So yeah, mixed event, which is great. We've got WTA 500 in San Jose, and we've also got Los cabos. For the men, two 50, which incidentally, if you comparing the two men's events, Los cabos has the higher the higher the higher names would you say, well, it's got Daniel Medvedev. At the very least, which is where he's making his debut after his Wimbledon ban. D.C.'s a 500 without a top 5 male player, Andre Rublev is the top seed there, whereas Daniel Medvedev is number one said a lot of noise going to be following him given he wasn't able to play Wimbledon all his Instagram posts were basically him just relaxing where he was on a boat. Watching the F one. Watching the Formula One exactly. So it will be fascinating to see how he comes back onto the tour. I would imagine it will be pretty seamless, but Kim, I said to you before the podcast, him playing Los cabos. That to me sounds like he got a big, big, big, big appearance fee to play there and not in the 500 in D.C., because he's the top seed there. Cam nori is the reigning champion. He's the third seed. Got ogier aliasing keck manovich as well. But yeah, it's so interesting choice, I think, to go down to Mexico to start to start your hardcore swing. Yeah, and I think this is where cam won his first title, last year, was this the first one, in which case, you know, this is kind of a remarkable 12 months he's had. Feliciano Lopez also there on a World Cup. That could be another petition idea actually. Feliciano Lopez were wild cards for Kim, he gets too many already. Well, okay, he should give some to Fernando Verdasco then. They could share them. Okay, I can agree with you on that. Going back to the ATP 500, I think Kyle Edmund is back on call. He's actually playing at the moment on at the city open in D.C., or he may have just. He's won. He's won. Of joy. Well done. Yeah, he was a breakdown in that second set. He managed to clutch it in the tiebreak ten 8. So he is through. So that's very, very good for him. He's into the round of 32. I mean, Andy Murray, Dan Evans, Jack Draper, is also there. He's got Stefan kozlov on a wild card in the first round. So a lot of British interest. And yeah, the two 50 as well is not patrol for a WTA two 50. We've got Simona Halep there. She also won today Emma raducanu is the second seed with Jesse pigula as the top seed. Now Kim, I was a bit thankful because bukva was meant to be radika news opponent in the first round, but because she did so well last week, winning in the Czech Republic. She has decided to drop out. So Emma's got a qualifier, which seems on paper a little bit easier. So that I'm hoping is quite a nice gentle opener before potentially who knows, could face Sophia kennan who's on a wild card just coming back onto the tour after a few months what feels like in hibernation. That could potentially be a second round match. Yeah, that would be cool. Venus Williams also got a wild card. She's in the drawer. Harriet darts there. I think she could have a pretty decent few matches, potentially. And Brad koni is playing doubles as well with Clara torsen, which that has not she's not done that in her professional career so far. So nice to see that she's not just thinking about who, you know, who's going to be my next coach to kind of add more thinking and knowledge to her game. I like that that she's moved also into the doubles arena to get more experience from a different sort of angle. Maybe that's a person of suggestion there instant effect maybe. And then San Jose, which is a 500 for the women Zachary and bido are the top two seeds there. So we will see who comes through that one. I mean, who else have we got at that one? Name a sark has got Qing Wen zheng, which could be quite a fun first round match. Shelby Rogers also got Bianca and rescue. And ryback akina by Burkina cassock keener could be quite a fun first round match as well.

"But once you went into the second, yeah, we're back in a stepped it up a lot and I think Tom none of which is really struggling to keep up, which obviously was reflected in the school. And it was able to serve it out very, very impressive on serving those last two sets and I think, yeah, we know that she's one of those players on her day is right up there and it's nice that she's getting form back after difficult season as well. Yeah, because she, you know, she started 2022 really, really well. She got to, you know, she got to the final in Adelaide and then lost to ash Barty, but yeah, she had some real difficulties. I think she got COVID in February and yeah, it's taken a time, I think, to get back, but she has certainly been a player we've had our eye on at grand slams, given her quality. I mean, for me, the interesting thing about, right back in there, is not the performance she gave. I was sort of, you know, I was sort of expecting her to turn up and yes, Tom manovich put up a really good fight, played really, really flawless tennis actually in that first set, but just a bit too much from right back in it. But Kim, she is a player that, yes, she does represent Kazakhstan, but she actually has a lot of Russian heritage. She was born in Russia. She was raised in Russia and I believe she's still resides in Russia and a lot of people are talking about, you know, we're coming to a very real prospect potentially of right back in a being in a Wimbledon final. Potentially, who knows, Wimbledon ladies champion and we could end up with a situation that maybe Wimbledon didn't want given they've obviously banned Russians and Belarusians from attending, you could easily just see the news headlines in terms of Russian born right back in her wins that the ladies title. And it feels like a situation that the Wimbledon, given what they've done, it's probably not what they would have wanted. I think it would be, I mean, I want Halep to win the tournament, I think. I'd love her to defend her title. Long way to go. But if we're back in a did win, it would be a bit of a up yours to Wimbledon because yeah, in a way, she has obviously big Russian links. So obviously she's not representing Russia, but it is kind of there will be a lot of criticism and irony there. So it would be quite interesting. Do you think they could have done anything about it? Like, do you think, like in hindsight, it could have been extended to players like, right back in the who were, I don't know, born in Russia as well, or do you think Wimbledon even if she got to the final? Do you think they will have a word with her about what she can and can't say? In the player ceremony, because that's what they're like, that's maybe something they'll be nervous about. I don't really, I think that she I don't feel like they have grounds to be nervous, but you just know that they won't want to leave anything to chance. I don't think she would be stupid enough to mention Russia in any sort of encore interviews. I mean, and I guess they're not going to have had rules that said, oh, if you were born in Russia or if you've got like a Russian parent, because that's the movie wouldn't be able to play because her parents are Russian. So there's lots of players that are from Russia that represent other countries and whatnot. So they can't have made those rules that extensive. But yeah, I just think it's kind of like it would be an interesting turn of affairs. If she was to win, it's kind of like what Daniel Bedford would have. Yeah. Well, they'll all be just defecting to Kazakhstan. We've already had one player, I think, to Kazakhstan and I think was a doubles player. But a lot of the Russians have already defected, not since the war, but you know, to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, because I guess they can get funding, you know, the governing bodies there, the sporting bodies. Make themselves very attractive for these players to go off there and get the support, so you can understand why they would do that. But yeah, so she's not the only one that she's obviously just had a very good tournament got to this stage. So it's drawn a bit of light onto the situation. But yeah, she was much more convincing as the match went on and yeah, almost watertight on serve, especially in that second set. It was very difficult for me. Kim, what I also enjoy is I read this fantastic fact on social media. Elena, lacoste remains the only player who's actually born in Kazakhstan to reach a Grand Slam single semifinal, but she did it, representing Russia. So it goes the other way as well. I don't know what her hair story as I suppose. I mean, that could that be something to do if she was born when they were all Soviet Union. I don't know. But yes, when you get into all the political side of things. But yeah, well, we've got Halep Rebecca and I haven't we set up and we've also got Tesla Maria against angel in the semifinal. You were right about this one Joel, you predicted Maria, and I was going about nimai to win the tournament. But yeah, Maria, doing what she does best, winning in a tight third set seemingly. Four 6 6 two 7 5. She came through against her fellow German. So yeah, obviously into the first semifinal of Islam in her career. It's remarkable really because she hasn't ever gone even close to the semifinals of Islam before. She's only reached, I think, the best she's done as the second round prior to this. So in the twilight of her career, such a crazily remarkable, brilliant achievement. Especially she's ranked a 103 in the world at the moment. So not many players ranked outside the top hundred have reached the stage. And not many people not many women's players over 34 have reached a Wimbledon semifinal, the only other players to do that Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, Billie Jean King, all legends of the game Kim, and then Tatiana Maria.

So about two weeks ago, the Bloomberg noted that the U.S. cannabis market size expected to reach 40 billion by 2030 and expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 15% over that time. That's a new report Tim that's app by grand view research, growth driven, at least this report said by increased legalization. Okay, so with this increased legalization, how are people who are using cannabis using it? Well, cure leaf just got some new data. They did this survey with Harris poll and it found that 91% of adults who are over the age of 21 who have ever consumed cannabis, they've actually done so for health and wellness purposes, Carol, as opposed to, well, you know, recreational, I would suppose. All right, so let's get to our guests with us. Is station woodcock? She is clinical cannabis pharmacist a curely joining us via Zoom in New York City. So tell us a little bit more about how people are using it because we do see growth in the industry. So tell us a bit more though about specifically where people are using it and for what reasons. Yeah, you know, I think this survey really helped clear up a lot of the stigma surrounding cannabis. People think that it's for escapism, for fun recreational purposes. But what we're really seeing is that by and large, the people that are consuming cannabis are doing so for help and wellness, it's for stress. It's for anxiety. It's for sleep. And the bigger takeaway is that over half of these people are using cannabis instead of pharmaceuticals. And I think one thing the COVID-19 pandemic did was sort of shift people towards more natural homeopathic sort of remedies and cannabis falls into that for a lot of people. How are they using it? Not what are they using it for? How are they using it? Are they eating edibles? Are they smoking it or are they? Yeah. I mean, I think that's the most fascinating fascinating thing about it. People think cannabis, they think smoking, smoking is actually bad for you, no matter what it is. So we see a lot of vaporization. And I think that's a good opportunity to remind people that we're talking about legal regulated products. So these are products that are sold through legal state markets. They're tested. They don't have pesticides. They don't have contaminants. There's nothing else in these vaporized products other than pure cannabis oil. And the terpenes found within the plant. That's really important because illicit market products are not regulated that way. We're seeing a lot of contaminated products. So these regulated products are much safer for people to consume, but we're also seeing the pharmaceutical industry technology brought into cannabis. So if you think of a traditional cannabis edible that takes like an hour to kick in and can last for 8 hours, we can change that with nano formulation that makes cannabis easier to be absorbed by the body so you can consume it in a beverage in a gummy formation. It's gonna work in like 15 minutes and only last for an hour or two. So people can really customize the products that they're using to the symptoms that they're looking for if you want to sleep all night. You can use something that's going to last all night. If you just need something for anxiety or stress right now, we have products for that too. So the versatility of the products really determines sort of what you're using them for. So tell me though, stasia, who should be using it because when you say homeopathic and I know there's been a lot moving forward in terms of greater oversight of homeopathic remedies. But I mean, I want transparency. I want to know what I'm kind of getting into. Yeah, absolutely. I think one of the things that we see a lot are people that are comfortable with the idea of cannabis for cancer, for multiple sclerosis, for Parkinson's disease. Like these really severe disease states. And there's a lack of understanding that it actually can be utilized for things like arthritis, or menstrual cramps for migraines, for stress for anxiety. I mean, we have patients and consumers coming in all the time for much simpler symptoms. And even more importantly, not all cannabis causes euphoria. I think that's also a huge misunderstanding that if you use cannabis, you're going to be stoned. That's absolutely not the case. The products come in a lot of different formulations, doses, ratios. So we can really customize what you're getting and how it's going to affect you for your lifestyle. But I guess what I wanted to go back to is remind me where we are in terms of FDA oversight of all of this. Yeah, there is no FDA oversight right now. It's all state by state regulated, but that's where that regulation comes into place. So the testing, the formulations, all of that is essentially pharmaceutical grade. Even without FDA oversight. Do we get to a point where there is that FDA oversight or we get to a point where, you know, I'm actually going to my primary care physician and she or he is recommending that I go to the pharmacy and pick up some cannabis, not going to a dispensary. Exactly. Yeah, I mean, that would require federal legalization and that's something I think the industry is definitely moving toward because access is huge. Like right now, someone who is a patient in New York say they can't travel to a different state legally with their medicine. And that's a problem. So we need that accessibility to open up. For people to be able to consume and have whatever they're using it for, to be able to cross state lines, have consistent product. You know, that's also something we're moving toward, but I think removing the stigma and seeing what people are using it for is a huge step in that direction. "My name for it. That's a working title. It's good though. It's good. And he said no, no, no, I'm not going to be involved. And he actually gave quite a revealing answer about it today, didn't he? He certainly seemed to have, it doesn't, it's not a principled objection to being an E sort of said look I think it's going to be great. I think it's a brilliant thing. I expect to be involved in it, you know, at some point in the future, but he said he didn't feel in the right headspace to get involved in it at the time, he said he said he didn't have the energy at the end of last season. And he said he felt like he still didn't have the energy now, and that's both kind of revealing about him and how, you know, how relentless his schedule has been for pretty much his entire career since he developed a hernia. And also about the Netflix project, because I guess naively, I should know better for somebody working in TV, but just thought, you know, you're doing what you would do anyway, but there happened to be extra that happened to be cameras there, filming you do it. But he talked about the Netflix undertaking is quite a big deal. Quite a big dedication of time and energy and I don't know. This was in the press conference here. Yeah. I also it was interesting. I wonder where the now, given the state of the world, whether he feels compromised in that regard as well. Possibly, but he's usually pretty Frank. I don't know, I feel like he might have said that. If that were the case, that might be a factor too, but I certainly believe it believed him today in terms of what he was saying. So Medvedev is through plays cuts of manovich next. That could be good. I think it's one of the tests. To pass, we will deal with later awaiting sit to pass or Zidane kola will obviously deal with that later, but awaiting the winner of that match in round three is Mikhail ima, who beat Dan Evans earlier on today, Evan's got booed off the court, David, you watched all of it. Yeah, I mean, I think the booing was a bit harsh, really. I understand why it happened because on match point Evans had had enough and he didn't do a proper return. It was the closest thing to attack that I've ever seen from Dan Evans, but it was the final point he'd got nothing left. He hasn't been very well done. He's not he looked or he's had a chest infection to be honest and he played brilliantly the other day and he had to win in straight sets he knew he had to and today he got off to a start. He was 5 one down and he just couldn't get going. I don't know why I didn't spoke to him, but then he managed to make a fight of the first set and it was almost like one of those fight backs within the set that you end up losing but you invest for the rest of the match and it paid off because he won the second set, he went to love up in the third, so he's a set all tool of app. Honestly, I thought Dan Evans wins from here. He lost 6 games in a row and look, is a really talented guy. The hands he has, the way he's able to manipulate lobs over the head of his opponent. Evans was playing so many drop shots, which again I think is a telltale sign. He just wanted to get the rallies over with because he couldn't do what he normally does. And Emma can handle all that. So I think the main problem was Dan Evans was just physically not not right today. A good player, but one I would have thought he would have beaten if they were both fully fit. And just on that, you reminded me that I forgot to cover some mental health who lost today to chin Wen. Of 19 year old from China, obviously fantastic win for her and she is. She is one to watch. She is a good player. Matt earmarked this yesterday as a potential upset and that was before. Before we saw it being what seemed to be pretty unwell on the court she had a blood pressure taking, taken she was having breathing difficulty, apparently she's just been enterprise while we've been recording in.

"And you know, I know somebody else is throwing a racket into a nearly hitter cameraman but actually didn't and got away with it. Novak Djokovic of course did hit a line judge with the ball and that's what ended up. I think if you'd have missed the line judge, even though it was reckless, he'd have got away with it. But the problem is that players are just instinctively doing this stuff and I'm sure the fact that there are few repercussions to it is part of the reason that they're instinct goes to doing it. Do we need to adjust the rules? So it's not about outcome, which ultimately is a matter of luck, isn't it? The point is that you're doing something reckless with your racket where you don't know where it could go. You're relying on luck for it not to injure somebody. Yes, I think so. I had a look back at the U.S. open statement from when Novak Djokovic did get defaulted a couple of years ago and the words they used were reckless intentional and negligent disregard for the consequences. And I think beggars racket bounce was all of those things to be honest. I think she didn't even really look where it went. Did she? She was busy getting her next racket out of her bag. Obviously she didn't mean we'll want it to hit somebody. Nobody's suggesting that, but negligent reckless, all of those things. Quite upset at the end. And I suspect. I mean, you'd have to be pretty hard at heart, not to be. I don't know exactly what the lion should be in terms of the rule, because I don't necessarily feel like the moment the racket leaves your hand, you should be defaulted. But I do think that if your racket bounces and goes into the crowd like that, you're risking somebody's health and that can't happen. Amazingly, over on court 14, arena southern managed not to break any rackets. Who is the ultimate racket smash inducer? I think I just can't imagine the frustration of playing Madison Bengal. Everyone's thinking, why am I not winning this? Why am I not winning this easier? Madison Brady. Why is she winning points? I mean, it's amazing. She's the closest thing to the club player. Yes. Wind you up because you think I'm better than this player? Yeah, and she's such a provocateur for big hitters. And I relate to its so hard. You know, the Dolly second serve that you're heart leaps out and goes, I'm going to hit this as hard as I can. It's right in my heading zone. You can see it searing for a winner before you've even made contact with the ball and obviously it hits the back fence. And it was very much that it was a, it was a high level club match over on court 14. And I really don't think she's going to win this tournament, but I'm really impressed that sabalenka is getting these wins quite frankly. She would have been another person that had she lost in round one or round two, we'd have all gone. A bit of a surprise at shrugged and moved on. Yes, if you told me that only three of the top ten seeds made it through to round three, I would have thought, well, sabalenka would have been one of the ones who didn't make it through. It's actually so form a confidence, the general state of her game at the moment. But, you know, kind of like we said in Australia, at any time she's able to win without that. You know, sort of a game. I think it's kind of impressive from her. Mary carillo was out there watching on court 14. She came in to watch it on her day off. That is how much that woman loves tennis. Go, Mary. She informs us that the first point of the match was a double fold from Marina said a sublingual. The perseverance of arena subway can we call it? Yeah. In Australia. Over in the men's drone, think any real upsets today as we record at the moment. I know stephanos sits at passes embroiled in something, we will be talking about that later, folks. He's 5 all in the fourth set as we come to Annie's he's having not a fun time. I would say again. I think as we all declared on last night's podcast, we'd never heard of before yesterday. So look, if kola researchers required before part two, we will do the required research and we'll bring you up to date with that. But as we stand at the moment, no massive upsets unless you count Jill Simone getting his retirement ceremony canceled again. He's only gotten beaten Steve Johnson. Yeah, and he was straight left out with shields. Not surprised after he was here at about 1201 a.m. the other night when he was trying to keep his French Open life. Do you think they'll come a point where they just go, well, you're not getting your retirement ceremony, then you can keep bloody winning. You can get it if you win the title. You had your chance. And he plays Marin Cilic in the third round. Combine age of about 80. And he always beats man. Yeah. He's got, I think he won 6 of their 7 matches. Yeah. Quirky head to head fun. Wow. You see the army? No. You'll see more in round round in the second week of the French Open, absolute law. Big on geo Simone. Daniel Medvedev came through in three sets against laz le gerat a real clay court match. This I'm impressed with the way Medvedev is just so accepting of the challenges of clay. He said he said he didn't feel like he played as well as he did in his opening match. He said he felt like he hit a heavier ball in the opening match and maybe he'll need to do that in the next round he plays Miami gets manovich who beat Alexander bublik earlier on today. We didn't see any of that match, but pod fan friended the pod Steven that we all met earlier on today and had flown over from California to watch Andre bublik. He didn't fly over to me. He informs us that public tanked away that third set with countless under arms. I'm sad that I missed it the moment ever said, yeah, he said, look, overall, overall he's happy. He's very, you know, he's, I don't think any of us have him in our quarter 5. He could go all the way, couldn't he? He could go all the way. I mean, look at Sisyphus, who would have thought sisa pass would be 5 all in the fourth set against a player. I honestly had not heard of before this week. Yeah, and I remember kind of the same thing happening with Medvedev last year at Roland Garros in that we had absolutely no expectations of him coming in because he spent the entire clay court season. Saying a rubbish. Rubbish is on clay and how much he hates the clay and writing it on all the camera lenses..

"To round up before we finish for today Joel Felix auger aliasing managed to come through in a 5 set struggle to finally get his first ever win at Roland Garros. So that was good. He went two sets down to some Peruvian guy who I've never heard of very yes. Yeah, that was a straight installed. Very strange start. Yeah. But yeah, he came through in the end, not pretty tennis, but there we go. He got the job done. Carlos alcaraz threw in routine fashion over londero. And Sasha is there also through against oftener straight sets. Actually, interestingly, I think zverev is going to be playing Sebastian Baez next, which I think will be quite an intriguing encounter. I'm intrigued to see what buyers will do against zverev. Maybe it will go long, could go 5. And Djokovic also has molcan who, again, we talked about the fact that Marion Vader is who was Djokovic's coach is in molcan corner. So that adds a tasty dynamic, I think, to that match, mulk has been playing some very good tennis of late as well. So I think that could be quite a tricky encounter for Djokovic on multiple fronts. But let's move on Kim to collect a set. We are going to unveil our collect a set picks. Some of our eagle eyed listeners will have noticed. There was a ghost collector set pick announced in our predictions episode, apologies, total shambles, I may have mentioned Daria cassi keener, which Kim instantly called me out on and were like, hang on. The picks you put on social media are different to the ones you announced on the pod. But we don't think anyone has followed what I've said as usual on the pod. So I think we're in a good place. They just ignore you anyway, Joel. Yeah, apologies, listeners for that. It's like confusion. I know what I listened back. I wasn't able to join for the last one. I was like, hang on a minute. But yeah, who have you gone for, Joe? I'm really shocked at your really shocked, but well, I am shocked. I could say the same about yours too. Met the dev semifinal. Where is that come from? You've got a Djokovic quarterfinal. Do you think rapper's going to beat him? Absolutely. I think Rafa is going to beat Djokovic. So I've got Djokovic going out in the quarterfinals. I think the red carpet has been well and truly laid out for stefanos to pass to get to the final. He's playing great tennis. He got their last year. I think he's going to match it. So I've got sister Sebastian to the final. Medvedev, you have gone semifinal. I've not gone that far. I've gotten round three and for some reason I think he might lose to kept manovich. I think cat manovich on clay quite difficult. I know Medvedev came through very easily today, but there's certainly stern a test to come and yeah, I've got Medvedev get out in round three. Jabor awkwardly has gone out already in round one. I put in the semifinals with actually to be fair, quite a few of our listeners. But dosa, who I had meant to say instead of chassis keener, I've also got reaching the semifinals and I'm feeling a little bit confident about given how routine her match today was against Fiona pharaoh. And then Bianca andreescu, I've got going to round four. I think she will lose to saccharin. She gave me a little bit of another of our little bit of a heart attack here in her first round match because she lost that opening set. It very much looked like she was going to lose it in two sets, but was able to kind of gut it out in three. So I'm still on for that one, but yeah, those are what I'm going with. Yeah, I think, I mean, I feel even more embarrassed in the final. So I'm just like, what? But yeah, like you said, a lot of our participants have, you know, we all have egg on our face for that one. For bido, so I've gone for the third round. I feel like cute metaphor is going to upset her. But after seeing bodos of thrash fear in a Ferro today, I'm a bit like, oh, okay. I didn't, I don't think that's a prediction. On rescue, I've got round two. I think she's going to lose to bench tomorrow. U.S. open semifinal rematch. Oh yes, I suppose it is. How things have changed. And Djokovic, I've gone to win, I think he's now got his groove, he's back where he needs to be and Rafa's foot is bothering me, hence I was bothering you more than me. It's bothering rapha more than anyone, but unfortunately, yeah, I don't know, I just, I think Novak's back and back to business. It sits past I've got also in the final, I think we're going to have a repeat of last year. And Medvedev, yeah, I did look at kick manovich in the draw and I was like, oh, that could be a bogey skin. But a bogey's get a banana skin even. I just invented new phrase. Love it. But I thought, you know, when I've doubted him before, he's generally actually gone as per the seeding. So I'm going to stick with that. And we'll see how it goes. Well, we'll do an update halfway through as we always do. I think you're completely deluded for semifinal. But we'll see. Well, let's see. I peaked at the Australian open where I think I got four or 5 right and four, I think. And I obviously just going to have my worst showing yet in this tournament. But prediction wise, I think you and Chris made predictions on the last pod. So I'll throw in my two pence worth. I'm probably, yeah, as I said, Djokovic to win beatings its fast and the final for the women I've gone for film tech as well. I think now that I did have jabbal but now that she's gone I'm going Zachary for the final. So semifinals Djokovic alcaraz sits fast Medvedev. And then shrimp take kazaki and sakurai take them. Like men. Well, yeah, but maybe I wouldn't have said her, but now like seeds have fallen. I'm like, oh yeah, she's still going. And also stop a bank has just lost the first set against Chloe pake, a French French player. So she could be another seed falling by the wayside, perhaps as well, but we'll give her a bit of time to see what she can do. But yeah, we'll be back on Thursday to round up the second round. We've got some great matches coming up tomorrow and sits past Mercedes on now actually. But tomorrow, Rafa's rappers the night session, which is good, so I can watch him, but yeah, in the daytime, I think Ben chics on dress gear is the match to look out for, I think, really, from the Philip chateau perspective. Kerb has also playing first up. She had a really tough win against magdalena frech. Yesterday, she saved match points to come through like 7 5 in the third and she must be tired because she played a lot of tennis last week and like a day off, that's it and then you sort of back out in action. So yeah, we've got also radar Carnegie back on court. Against sassanids, now that's a toffee. Do you think Emma's gonna they played each other on the clay? Earlier on and ratty Carney started really, really well. I thought sassy was going to retire. I can't remember which tool of that was, but sazerac came roaring back and one in three, which was very frustrating. I do think Brad Carney can come through that, but she knows based on, I think, their match earlier on in the clay season that she's going to have a game on her hands. I'm also Kim looking at sebi korda, Richard Gasquet, last match on Suzanne longleng, that feels to me like it could go 5 sets..

"Still hoping for Monte Carlo, was it 2021? Djokovic form. That's what I'm hoping for. Dan Evans, the clay quarter. Yes. Exactly in that sense. No, exactly. Exactly. So yeah, I'm sort of expecting the very best maybe a third round meeting with sorry, a four frown. No, sorry, a third round meeting. With just a pass. Looks like Amelie mauresmo might have managed to sneak lupus puy, her former. Yeah. Would it be would surprise me? But get the same in the drawer. But also it gets a qualifier as well. I mean, that's like a double. Just saying she was that maybe she had double helping, isn't it? That is. Why couldn't you do that for Jo Wilfried tsonga? Come on, come on. Sorry, his last event. But yeah, let's look at finally that the bottom, the bottom quarter, fourth quarter. This is. Yeah, it's an absolute, an open, it's open. It is so open. Daniel Medvedev is the technically is the highest seed. You know, at the very bottom of the draw, he lost to Gasquet this week in Geneva. We shouldn't have put too much, you know, he's coming back from surgery, he shouldn't put too much on first match back, but this is just going to I just feel like this is going to open up. Yes, Rublev is there. Jannik sinner is there. I feel like this has made this part of the draw is made for Yannick sinner personally. But who knows, there are other Marin Cilic could have a late renaissance potentially or kept manovich has been playing pretty decent over the last few months. I think there's a lot of quite a few dangerous floaters in this part of the draw and I'm not necessarily expecting the top seeds like Medvedev Rublev potentially to be one of the ones we're going to be seeing in the semifinal. I think this might get messy Joel this section. I think we might see, you know, someone might get an upset, then they might lose to someone else that we no one's heard over the next round, that sort of thing. I think there will be some good ones. I think that Corinna buster, I think he's had obviously that great run in Barcelona and hasn't necessarily backed it up, but he loves the big stage. We've seen that before. So I think he definitely deserves an honorable mention. I think that we've also got, as you said, kept man of it, I think, what a great story after he was drawn to play Novak Djokovic in the Australian open. And then he replaced him as the number one seed or something. Did really well. And then he got to the fourth round and he's had 6 quarterfinals since then. And one of them was a semifinal. So he took that opportunity and ran with it. And he's got a great draw here and he's to say he won't run with it again because he really is impressive when it comes to his ball striking. I mean, how far how far do you think how much expectation have you got for Daniel Medvedev? Well, after the gasket performance, I've double checked on my phone that actually happened, but I was thinking performance. I was thinking probably not that much expectation. I know that last year he kind of defeated his clay demons. Yeah, exactly, exactly. That quarterfinal, but I personally don't think that he's going to, I don't think he's going to get past the third floor I don't even make a quarter final. I'll say that. That's a safer bat. But I think maybe it might free him up a bit, you know? That no expectations he doesn't have expectations on clay. If he doesn't get too annoyed at the fact that he's on the dirt, then I think they could be a good opportunity, but I mean, for Rublev, we should have mentioned as well. This is a very good draw. He hasn't had the greatest clay court season so far. But I think if he was going to do something the French, this is the draw to do it with. But you seem to be kind of picking sinner. I still think cinna, for me, if that happens in a Rublev, yeah, I'm sort of, I feel like I've seen better tennis from sinner so far, this season, although having said that, you know, Rublev, it's a title. It's a toss up. It feels like a toss up, but it's certainly a part of the draw that these players will think there's an opportunity there's a real opportunity here. To get to the semifinal. And if you consider in the top quarter, in order to get to the same final, you might have to cover through Djokovic, the Dao alcaraz. Sasha is up there. Yeah, exactly. You would definitely bite your hand off to get into that. So yeah, let's make some predictions. Mine are usually awful. And Kim is obviously not here. So I'm going to have to sort of represent represent Joel and Kim, I feel with my picture. With my sort of rubbish predictions, but where are you going with first? Right. So this is, this has been difficult because I also thought, you know, standing in for Kim, maybe I should have picked Nadal for the semifinal, so I can only apologize to Kim, but I went with Djokovic and alcaraz for the semifinal in terms of getting out of their quarters. And then I went for sit to pass and Corona buster. Interesting. I did indeed. PCB. Yeah, exactly. And then for the final, I went for a Djokovic set to pass final with a Djokovic when. So you think a rematch of last year? Yeah, and I think the memory of last year will be too much for sets of past and I think it will be a pretty simple affair. I think alcaraz, it might be too soon. For him, I mean, I shouldn't kind of he's proven at every point that he can do it. He can win these big matches, but in a 5 set against Djokovic at the French. I think experience might win over youth in that situation. But what do I know? This is my first time doing these predictions, Joel. Tell me what will happen. All your predictions will just crash and burn. Oh, that's how it works. Basically, yeah. It's what's happened in I feel like all our preview pods over the last few years, but yeah, I think for me, I've gone slightly differently. I'm still back in rapha. My top half semifinal. I've got a Nadal alcaraz meet up. And then in the bottom half, I've got sisa pass Yannick sinner. I'm going with an alcaraz cisa pass final. I think Rafa will beat for some reason, I think Rafa versus Djokovic will happen in the quarters. And Rafa will have to go some and we'll go some to win that, but he will not be a 100% I feel for that semifinal and I think alcaraz will take advantage of that. So that's why I've got alcaraz winning over Rafa and others. It's going to be hard to go back to back for that player whoever may potentially come through. That's going to be, I think, quite tough. It changed my case. Someone like get someone like alcaraz, but sinner, sister pass, yeah, I think I've got sister pass kind of coming through. I just think this bottom half of the draw is just made for Stephan or sister pass to just come through and get to the final. And I've got that again. So alcaraz, visas pass..

"Look, who knows what will happen, but sharing a moment like they did this week with one Carlos Ferrero having a really, really difficult time. His father dying, I think, just in between Indian Wells and Miami. He flew back to Spain and then there was that incredible video of him coming back for the final to surprise Al carrez and alchemist was writing on the camera throughout tributes to Eduardo, who was one color for his father. That's a special thing they have shared this week. I just think something like that will bond them together for a long, long time. And I think that's important to have that figure in your career in your life. I always think I always think back to Chris clary's book about Federer and the people surrounding him being important and Mary, Mary says that as well. And I think Ferrero is that guy for alcaraz. I actually, I need you to take over David because I can't even think about that hug without tearing up a bit. That moment in the hotel where suddenly one calls for a rival is kind of announced and our crash just jumps out of his seat. And like dances, he's like dancing over to him. He's so, he's like, he's just scored a goal that his team and he's just wants to and it's so childlike as well. So lovely. He's so much a man in so many ways that to see him just look like a kid. And the thing is, I was around when one call us fro was out across his age. And he's a quieter presence. Ferrero, I think he's a more slight individual who just had this sort of waspish ability to hurt people on the court. But he was very likeable back then. I remember it always thought he seemed like a really nice fella. All the way through. And this movement into kind of father figure will big brother figure is it really suits him. He has a lovely demeanor on the sidelines in the box and with our corrals. It really works. I don't get the sense that he needs to be about him in any way. He's just trying to support him and nurture him and the pride that he looks at him with. It's very, it looks very healthy. We see one of the new balls please. For us. I've got the picture somewhere of them all lined up. I must stick that out. And now he's follow the figure mental coach for the new new balls. Oh, really good. You're all right, Catherine. What else happened in Miami? Somebody helped me here. Brilliant title defense from her catch. Wasn't it? So impressed by that. Brilliantly and just there was that lovely moment in his match with our crows where our careers conceded a point or let him replay a point because there was a not up call against her catch who was shown on the screen to have reached a ball, and our crash just said, yeah, let's just play it again. And you could see how much her catch appreciated that. And actually, that was a bit of a theme of the tournament, the latter stage is the good sportsmanship we had another one between rude and our crimes as well. Just good good blokes, I felt. Duking it out. And then yeah, and then you got her catch joining up with John Isner for isn't it to win the sunshine double doubles crown Indian Wells with sock and here with her catch in Miami. I mean that's a fantastic achievement from her catch to go all the way in both like that. And then of course there was the man that he beat in his match Medvedev saying he's got a hernia issue and he's had a small operation in his app for a one or two months and that probably means the clay isn't going to happen for him, which maybe he's not going to lose any sleep over. But yeah, he didn't look right, did he in the heat, but he also he didn't necessarily look as though he was on full charge into the corners and maybe a hernia might explain it. It's funny, there isn't it because take away the clay court season from Medvedev, which okay, you know, none of us would have been picking him to win titles, but there was an opportunity to maybe build on the progress that he made last year, pick up a few extra ranking points. I know he's not got much pedigree on grass, but he says he enjoys it. He likes playing on glass. I think he backs himself to figure it out and improve his results, but you know, who knows what's going to happen this year on the grass. So he's going to be going into the latter portion of the season with a lot of pressure on him on the hard courts, recovering from surgery with a lot of points to defend and suddenly, you know, that feeling of inevitability about him getting back to world number one. You know, when somebody's a match away, always sort of think, you know, you build up the tension in jeopardy. But I always think, okay, but if it's not this match, it'll probably be the next one. If you get to a match of the way, it's probably going to happen. And I certainly felt a feeling of well, of course he'll get back to number one, but it suddenly feels that bit less inevitable. And I really feel like he does not want to be that two weeks at number one guy, especially given the circumstances of him getting to number one, he has been he's been muted since his country declared war on Ukraine. And that's very understandable. It would almost be sort of inhuman if he if he weren't a little muted, but it is, I think it's a factor in him at tennis player at the moment, so I think he's come back from that surgery is going to be an interesting one to watch. What's his potential? Who is he now is a tennis player and where is this come from? Last year, he won 17 matches on tour including qualifying matches, and this year he's already won 18 main draw matches. He is a completely transformed player. Am I going to take the catch manovich question again this week? Yes. I was looking back on the notes I made and I've mentioned this match before. I watched him in the Davis Cup at the very end of last season against Mikhail kukushkin. It was a three and a half hour match. And the notes I made were just kept manovich so many missed opportunities and when it mattered in the big moments he was really passive, like so passive. He had the match ripped from him by Mikhail kukushkin. That is what happened in pretty much the final match he played last year. And the catch man of which I watched this year seems to have corrected that mindset. You know, the way he went after the ball against alcaraz throughout the whole two and a half hour match. Couldn't have been more different to the guy who walks at the end of last season. He came up with so many incredible shots under under pressure. You know, there were a lot of key moments in that match with our careers and both of them kind of produced their best tennis at the biggest moments. And that's kind of a mark of a great match. And the angles kept manovich creates on his ground strokes, so he's able to pull players off the court. Makes me think that he could certainly have a game that suits clay as well. So I'm excited to watch him over the next couple of months on that surface and yeah, I think you said it at the top of the show, Catherine reframing how we see mere catch manovich because I thought of him as someone who was going to hover around 50 in the world and have a good career, maybe the odd run to a third, fourth, maybe quarter final of a major, something like that. But yeah, he's already doing way better than I thought he would with this little patch of form. He's had, he's had now, and it feels pretty sustainable. It doesn't feel like he's absolutely peaking necessarily..

"He played the match of the week previous to that did Carlos alcaraz 6 7 6 three 7 6 over mere mere catch manovich he by the way is shaping up to be a serious player from now onwards I think we need to reframe who we think may make its manovich is maybe we were in the process of doing that but it's time to confirm that Hubert her catch got the better of Daniel Medvedev in that matchup we were previewing on our last podcast, Matt's written fish on a sofa next to this bullet point. We'll need to. Maybe we should just explain that now, get that out of the way. You obviously missed this quote. I mean, it feels like it does need explaining if you haven't seen it, but yeah, that was that was daniil Medvedev's description of himself. During that match, he said he was like a fish on a sofa because he was just cramping so much and his body was sort of contorting, he does not enjoy the heat and humidity, I think, Medvedev. He's only really seen him look like that before in heat and humidity. Do you remember last year Miami? He was walking like an old man, wasn't he? With his cramping, we saw him at the Tokyo Olympics really struggling as well. That is an area he doesn't like. We've obviously subsequently found out that he's been he's been struggling with a hernia and he's had a hernia operation. He's out now for a potentially a couple of months, so I'm sure that was contributing as well. But yeah, fish on a sofa feels like I was trying to find the words for what Medvedev looked like on that call and of course Medvedev himself came up with the words that that feels like a quote that we'll be going back to. Yes, and of course he did the dead fish celebration when he won the U.S. open last year. So yes. Whether intentional or not, he's got a theme. Fish is going to become his thing. But anyway, back to Carlos alcaraz, who we're not going to be able to avoid hyperbole and bandwagon jumping and all of it because I think he's changing the sport. I really do. Everything that I said on Thursday looks like he sent from the future rinse and repeat. He's different. He's something else. I said that changing the sport line in one of our tweets this week and got a little bit of pushback and I was thinking about why I think he's changing the sport and it seems to me like a combination of the way he's playing. You know, in terms of his combination of speed and power is not something I remember seeing, especially from an 18 year old. You know, you think when I think when the doll came along and look, I'm really trying not to compare him to Nadal all the time, but when the doll came along, he didn't have just got an outcry can get that serve up to a 140 miles an hour. He didn't have a backhand like alcaraz has got, he's just, he's got awesome power on both wings and this incredible speed. So the playing style is different. But also to be getting these results at this age, I thought the days of teenagers winning big on the ATP tour were pretty much over and I thought they were pretty much over with Nadal and with Djokovic and with Marion with del Potro. Those players have taken the physicality to a level which is just so extreme now. And we've seen a lot of talented players come along in the last 15 years or so, but it's always taken them time. Look at team, the way he's physically built up. Look at, look at the way Medvedev has sort of become physically strong and figured out his own game. And alcaraz is the first player. I can remember since Nadal married Djokovic, who's just immediately come along and just look like a problem. He just looks like a problem for the best players in the world already and yeah, those are the ways for me, which I would sort of justify this idea of him changing the sport and that is what I believe right now is what we're seeing from him. Well, I mean, there are lofty words, but I mean, that's how he makes you feel when you're watching him. Because he kind of he's got bits of all those big three. And I'm not saying he is them all combined, but he's got parts of their game. In his from the obvious comparisons with Nadal because of being Spanish because of the manner in which he carries himself the way he looks like he's been plugged into the mains from ball one. The exuberance. The perseverance that he showed during those matches that you've just described in which he was down. He was a set down against Miami cuts manovich, who was playing out of his mind. He was wonderfully impressive, and yet he still got the better of him. And in that final, against Casper Ruud, he was four one down, and he was four one down a couple of times in these matches and just not quite hitting his straps. He was a bit erratic. He maybe it was a bit of nerves, maybe he's going for too much. I think he does that occasionally early on. But there's something special about him inside, where he, he'll just tap into whatever it is. And once he then goes flat out, he's got a sort of foot to the floor speed, that nobody else seems able to live with. And I saw it in parts in the match against Casper Ruud, there was a side to side match where rude, who is fast, he is quick around the core, and he is, he has got blistering power on the ground strokes, and he can he was going toe to toe. And yet still the final shot is one one by Cass, Carlos alcaraz, because he just has that little extra. And then he's got the ability to contort himself a little bit like Djokovic does. He seems so supple. He's much more live than an adult. He's much more physically built like a Djokovic, and then you've got somebody who's prepared to serve in volley. At this age, 18..

"Fritz could well come a cropper against. Yeah, possibly van de Sancho or later on Tommy Paul hatching of a Felix maybe. I mean, I'm not trying to downplay Taylor Fritz. I just think it's very unlikely that he's going to win two masters back to back straight up. I mean, Kim, we're not even, we're not even speaking about sebi chord or either. And that's a bit unfair because he had a really fantastic match against nidal as well. It was just unfortunate, I think it was so early on in idio well sort of feel like we've had so many great matches since then. We've sort of forgotten about it, but again, like Jensen brooksby being unseated in that top quarter semi quarter in this second quarter unseated as well is going to be quite a dangerous player FAA third round. That could be quite tasty if that materializes. Yeah, hopefully Felix will have a better week this week, but kick manovich as well had a great tournament. And he's in that section could play FIA in the second round. The third section down will the top half of the bottom half, however you want to say it. We've got Andre Rublev as the top is the highest seed. Well, no, actually, he's not the high seat in the section Mateo bertini technically is. But I would imagine Rublev is the favorite to come through this. Yeah, inform. Gael Monfils, hopefully he'll be playing as well as we saw him against Medvedev as well. He has got a perker in his section. They both had quite a good Indian Wells, but yeah, for me, rob blood from this section is Yannick sinner. Last season got to the final in Miami with that with her cash. Could also be a threat. I know you love a bit of PCB as well in this world. I mean, Kim, Rublev could face Nick kyrgios. In his opening match, if curios comes through Adrian mannarino of France, I think I know we've just sort of bashed Nick curios in terms of his antics, but I don't think anyone can deny he was playing some very, very good tennis. In Indian Wells and to have curios Rublev in the second round, I think that could be very, very fiery, I think, given their both their personalities. If they're both of their powerless and really show up on the tennis court, that could be a very, I think, fiery encounter for the fans. I have to say, I'm with Rublev on this one, if they do meet, I don't think kirill should be in the tournament to be quite honest with you. So, but that's the way it is. Yeah, I think sinner going back to him, but hopefully he's over his illness from last week. But yeah, yeah, I mean, I expect rob level beat curios, so I'm going to go with him for this section. But otherwise, yeah, I do concur kyrios was playing some great tennis. So it could very well be the semifinalist of quarterfinals from this section. Very bottom half of the jaw Sasha's Vera was the second seed at the bottom. This feels very open. Cam nori could welcome through, which would be great. And Grigor Dimitrov, he had a sort of got to the court as in India well. So, you know, had a not too shabby last week, benefiting from Djokovic withdrawal. So yes, very open, I think, to be honest. Well, I'm looking forward to Kim in this part, is we could have an all British second round between cam nori and Jack Draper who is here on a wild card. I think that's to do with IMG as his sponsor who they run, they've got big interests and stake in the tournament. Kim, I still just think Jack Draper on the ATP tour. Yes, he had that amazing match with Novak Djokovic. I still remember him last time. He was at Miami where he was just full on cramping on the court, wasn't a pretty sight. I mean, very, very, very testing conditions for any player, but certainly a young player who's still developing. So I think he'll want to do better than give a better showing than yeah, I think what happened last time out and he's got Jill Simon on a protected ranking like tsonga, fellow French man, but yeah, that could be I mean, that's a classic youth versus youth versus experience match up. Where do you see any hope for Draper? Or do you think C one will know how to handle him? No, I think Jack Draper's got a chance. I mean, Simon is, I don't want to say he's past it. He's getting on with his gay on, isn't he? Yeah, he's in the latter stages of his career. So I think that's a very reasonable draw. Having said that, he's obviously very experienced and has been a fantastic player throughout the years. So with that comes a lot of skill. But yeah, hopefully Jack will have a better experience than last time in Miami. And it would be fantastic to see him play to play cam in that second round and hopefully can come through and continue. Continue his recent good form and go deep here. I think he's in a good place in the drawer to do that. So I'd really like to see him. I mean, let's make some predictions, Joel, because we've been I think we've kind of pretty similar on the same sort of wavelength probably with our predictions, but who are you going for for your semifinal lineup to start with? So I'm got Medvedev alcaraz in the top half semifinal with Nick curios cam norrie bottom half semifinal. I think cam nori is the form player in that bottom half and sorry in that bottom bottom quarter..

"Practice this earlier folks. I don't think I did. We probably should have practiced it early, shouldn't we? It's not dynamic radio. Anyway, he said that by the straight sets but it was in the heat of the day. He said, even for me, at the end, it was a bit hot. He was glad that that got done in three sets, put it that way. And I also had a bit of a gems life chat with him in that press conference. And that's me doing a little tease for the newsletter. Yeah, that exchange will be top notch newsletter content for subscribers and it's free to subscribe so why wouldn't you? Matt's just on Google Translate trying to decrease pay for us. It's our love word restaurant market. We did word rough tight. I think would be a good translation. There we go. So the more feast dream remains alive, he plays a Serbian in the fourth round. It's Misha, catch manovich. And I said to him, you know, you've lost to Djokovic so many damn times in big matches. Does it feel different if not being in the drawer and he wasn't being drawn on that? He sort of said wearily. I've lost to everyone in big matches. You know, no individual makes any particular difference, but it's a massive opportunity for Gael Monfils massive. So that I think other than the match that is going to go on until tomorrow's podcast records. Because for three juice in the fourth set and they've been playing for four hours and 28 minutes of mannarino incorrect. Other than that much, I think that's it for your day 5 Australian open. It has been a day. We've loved it. It's been brilliant. We can't wait for day 6. What is on the schedule for day 6? There are a few sort of obvious picks, I think there's Dan Evans and Felix O'Reilly has seen that have been scheduled for not before 5 p.m. out on out on the John Kane arena, which I've persuaded to actually go to tomorrow David. He's prepared to journey to the John Cain arena. Do you know the film kind of is no longer as far away? I don't know how they've done it, David. But the renovations they've made to the ground have brought the John Kane arena closer and convinced because we sort of went to it on the way out today. We had to get a taxi home because I only had one shoe by the end of the end of the day. It was that kind of day. Managed to break them sitting down. Just on the John canarina, for those of us that have never been, what it like it's a funny one because it does get great atmospheres, but I feel like it should. Yeah, it is the crowd of further from the court it feels than on any other arena because it's not a strictly tennis stadium. It's a multi purpose stadium that's used for concerts, I think, largely obviously pre COVID times. I think during the Commonwealth Games, it was the swimming venue. The John Kane Reynolds wasn't named after whoever John Caine is at the time. I always feel like John Cain is the. The public know the alter ego name for a superhero. Right, yes. Right. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, anyway. Isn't he? I think he's in politician. Former Victorian is a local politician. Daniel Andrews arena. One day. One day. It doesn't. It doesn't look promising for great atmos. Definitely not. But. Whether by design or just sort of, I don't know. It's developed this reputation as the place to go for the holy burly atmos, and that's I think that's kind of become so fulfilling that the people that want those kind of vibes go there and are attracted there, which is which is great because I think it could otherwise be a bit hollow and soulless because there is that physical distance between the crowd and the players, but players seem to bore a certain type of player really enjoys playing there. It's your, it's your offbeat. It's hipster. It's where the hipsters want to play. The grand pass people turn up and it's all in. And that's going to be there tomorrow. So extra hips to vibes. Why are you going to tell Dan ever? Well he's just not as far away. And it's not as far away as it once was. Okay. Somehow. Taos and Collins on rod laver arena can nepi against the Aussie World Cup muddy English. Then Benoit, peregrine Stefano past the night session is Pablo andujar against Alex domino and sonic estate against Anastasia pavlyuchenkova. Second court Zidane Sheik against corne von Drescher's sabalenka, the bookies have von Dre rover is the favorite in that against the number two seed. Then vandalism against daniil Medvedev night session is frantic Kazakh keener and Robert Medvedev, Halep's out on John Kane, as well as Evans and augereau theme. And David, I'm going to whiz down to court number three because not before 4 p.m. is where and when you will find Maxine Crecy against Chris O'Connell. What time I've got to sit down and I discovered what Chris O'Connell looked like this afternoon and it was not what I was expecting. What we were expecting and what did you find? I was expecting I had a generic Australian man in my mind. It was a sort of amalgam of Sam groth and Jordan Thompson..

"We'll see how the landscape shifts as a result and of course we'll keep you posted on all of it. We are going to turn our attention back to tennis now back to Madrid where Matt, how much how many? Not sure what the right descriptor there is. Juris have you eaten since we lost potted? Have you been deprived of your dinners? Should we get the violins out? Yeah, tennis starts and churros ends, sadly. So no more delicious meals for me, but lots of watching Macau kokushkin instead. Similar. Yes. Which is, which is its own joy, isn't it? I mean, nothing can nothing can obviously equal to us, but Mikhail kukushkin apology fist bump will go a long way to filling the hole where a churro could be I love it. I love an apology fist in all one motion the actual movement from open hand into clenched fist is just especially if those two things are caught directly in the gaze of the opponent. It's the best, isn't it? It was great that much. We're of course talking. Sorry, I should fill you in here. Shouldn't I? Should feel the listener in. We are, of course, talking about the opening rubber of yesterday's quarterfinal. Between Serbia and Kazakhstan, the opening rubber was between mesa Misha Kent's manovich and Mikhail kukushkin and it was one big cushion 13 11 in the deciding set tiebreak. And yes folks, it was as good as that scoreline suggests 7 6 four 6 7 6 three hours and 18 minutes. And at that point, after that match, I was looking up to Kazakhstan have doubles players is a good cushion going to have to play doubles after that? The good news is that they had some doubles players. Not winning ones, Serbia, so if you did win the day, poor Nadia of and didn't do the business, but at least it didn't have to come out and play again after that. It felt three hours and 18 minutes, didn't it? What was it? What was it like to experience? Well, I was writing the live match report of this match. So at a set and serving for the match, I had it done and dusted, prepared, ready to hit send. And then, of course, catch manovich decided to launch this incredible comeback and ended up winning. I think about 6 games in a row in the middle of that match to be up a break in the third and it suddenly looked like he was going to win and kokushkin was on his last legs because not only was this a really long match, he'd also played a two and a half hour epic couple of days before against Brad and schnurr and he just looked exhausted and suddenly with catch manovich having matched points in the third set. Kukushkin had this new lease of life and started unleashing forehands and fighting back. And then we ended up in this tiebreak where the momentum was just swinging back and forth, match points were coming and going for both players and I must say the entire time really the quality was really high. Kukushkin was going for his shots when match point down and taking risks and they were all landing in and catch man of it started to play better at this point as well. It was a really, really fantastic match, but one that did defy logic. You know, I sort of wrote in my, in my match report, something that I don't even think is possible. The fact that there were numerous crescendos. I think you can probably only really have one crescendo, but it felt like there were so many moments where that was the climax of the match and then suddenly it veered off in this different direction and you had absolutely no idea who was going to win. But goodness, it was an incredible match and kokushkin just loves the Davis Cup because he came into this tournament, having won three matches on tour, the entire season. One of them was before the Australian open, one of them was the Miami match against Jack Draper, where Draper had to retire and the other one was at the Olympics. Those are the entirety of kokushkin to main draw wins on the tour. And yet he's shown up at Davis Cup and he said, my teammates didn't tell me, but I knew they were worried about me because I was playing so badly. But he said, I believed in myself and I've turned up this week, something has clicked and he's won back to back matches for the first time all year. Just a real sort of good story, I think Mikhail kukushkin and Davis Cup. Before yesterday evening David, if I'd said Mikhail kukushkin to you, what would have sprung to mind? Probably Davis Cup actually, because I feel like I've been here before, where he's just been playing out of his mind. And he's been around for so long, hasn't it? Well, that's sort of what I'm getting at with the question because he's been around so long. I've watched so many of his matches one way or another. And I don't think I could have pulled one specific. I can only piston it. Vague Davis Cup moments where he's played above his level almost and surprised me in what he's been able to do. This was another level altogether, just because of the grit that he showed to stay in there. How much he desperately wanted it. And as Matan, the fact that he kept going for his shots and that they both did, they were just both knocking lumps out of each other when the stakes were so high and I have such a lot of time for that because I felt like I was gripping the table while I was watching it. Because it meant so much and yeah, they were just blast in the ball at each other and one would get stretched out and he'd come up with an even more extreme angle than he could and you feel that some of these points are never going to end. And the fact that I started to feel towards the end because he got himself back from four one down and then four one down in the tiebreak as well. And I just started to feel like it was almost destined for him that he looked like he believed it was just going to happen. And kit's man of it should have had so many disappointments, really he should have won the match. And yeah, he deserved it, though, in the end, did kukushkin? He did. Not least, because there should be a new rule that it's game set and match when someone does an apology fist..
