"Of six all is on the number five essential quality. He's your one to two favorite. The winner of the belmont stakes presented by nyerere bets returns for a prep for the run. Happy drivers well. It may be preferable travers. But he's certainly better than the other horses in this race. He's never run a bad race in his seven race career. Six wins and a defeat in the kentucky. Derby worried didn't have the cleanest of trips and was only beaten a length that day simply put. He's just better than these horses. I think the the only way you can make money with him is to either hammer. And exact are two or play him in horizontal wagers which i think everyone is going to be singling him so i picked him on top. It's nothing creative. I think the logical ones underneath are either number two masked parade or number four. Keep me in mind. Keep me in mind. Has that experience against central quality. Many many times in fact he's run behind him three times already in his career and a couple of those races. You really wasn't that far behind him. Masquerade is the up and comer. That is getting good at the right time. I don't think he's as good as essential quality yet but that doesn't mean he can't get to be that good. Yeah i just think of central quality is you know. He's just better and faster than these sources. I thought keep me in mind has been waking up and his running style and it certainly seems like maturity is going to help his cause. It's a rider changed. Joel rosario in here as well. I know he's a horse is void of speed. He comes from from well out the back. Wonder if joel can try and keep them all close i. I don't know if he can. I'm speculating i'm hoping he can. I can tell you that But truth be told essential quality. You know the two year old champ. If he continues on the trajectory he's gotten faster and his last two the derby and the belmont stakes. He's gonna be a tough one. Tough hombre tomorrow. I don't think you can get past them. I'll take him over. Keep me in mind. And wavering way runs a very interesting horse. It's rata changed junior. He's gonna be forwardly. Placed jimmy jerks on the source in the belmont. He thought distance was going to be his friend. This is just his second start at a mile and an eighth. He was involved in the pace in the world. It wasn't fast with it was contested. He only three lancs. He may have been best the pegasus last time behind manned mandolin. He's been training really really well for this. I think it's i'm gonna play five four five three. I'm gonna try and get mask parade of the number essential quality going to be tough race. Number nine goes as the grade to jim dan. The other re to the bowling green at a mile and three eighths on the turf. Now we got tiring here thursday One point seven inches of rain. Thursday night alone. Another three tenths of an inch friday morning. So it's going to be wet there's turf horse wet no question about it. They will run this bowling on this earth though Field of a field of eight defending eclipse champ channel maker in here for hall of famer. Bill maher manny franco. He won the sword dancer over our soft soft course here at saratoga last year before digging the joe hirsch turf classic at belmont park. He hasn't run well his to starts in dubai and while the saudi arabia race was terrible. Many franco's void for his wins last year at saratoga climbs back aboard. He's your five three morning line favorite and he hasn't run since that race in late march and That that's the biggest question whether or not he's gonna fire. His best shot certainly figures to get the lead in this spot. There's really not any other speed in this race. So channel makers should be able to get the lead it's whether or not He can win against this quality field off this kind of a layoff We know that the wet track won't hurt them If you look back to last year in the turf classic when he went to wire he was five to two that day. Coming off a big win in the sword dancer the favourite that day was rock emperor and he ended up beating rock emperor by five and a half six lengths and rock. Emperor just didn't run one of his good races that day but at least at that point there were people out there who thought rock emperor was better than channel maker. I dunno of rock. Emperor is better than channel maker but rock emperor has recency. He's coming off a nice effort a confidence builder against softer competition. Last time out I think he sits fairly close to channel maker and if channel maker isn't his best. I think joel rosario and rock emperor will pounce and maybe turned the tables a much better price six to one morning line so going to try for a minor upset with rock emperor rock emperor while he's going to go to a horse who had a lot of trouble finding a women's circle finally the last time in his first first time in ten starts in the us at the money. I guess he can win over. Miami's horse i've kind of been chasing a little bit. I'm wondering if the mile and three eighths is going to help him like he did. Last time. i thought he might have been best last time. Hung a little bit. Didn't have the cleanest inside trip channel maker could obviously win this race over the two for gaumont cross-border who got put up via the q. Is in here. I guess he could win. There's a lot of horses that could win this race You can make it. I mean rackham break. Point was first time this country last time. He got caught behind the runaway. Horse in megacity I landed on over miami. I thought it'd be enough patient. Yeah i thought he was always. It was kinda coming into his own. I thought it'd be a swear enough price. So i landed on moon over miami. Hoping he makes a big run and run them down in race number ten the gray two hundred fifty thousand dollar bowling green.

Empire six will go over a couple of steaks on Sunday that are part of that sequence for the keep in mind we kind of rain we were off the turf Thursday and Friday here Gone Park the stakes races tomorrow and Sunday I think are safe I. Don't know about the rest of the cards. So just keep an eye out keep an eye to the sky and keep an eye on on twitter the between up scratches and changes. The track conditions in and of course, the data's early we can still whether or not we're on off the tariff both tomorrow and Sunday looks jump right in three stakes kicking things off at. Belmont. Tomorrow the Penultimate Day of the fall championship meet a is scheduled to go on my on a half on the widener turf course for the fillies and Mares. If this race is rained off, we'll go to a mile and a quarter on the main track we have a field of nine in here and. A pretty wide open morning line I think it'll be a wide open. tote board. Motor Makina the number two makes her first start in the US Christoph. Clermont, trains gets lasix Joel Rosario. You know we've been seeing this a lot more lately bobby. Mouton AKINA. Just ran in August and more often than not when these euro imports. Come in they've had lengthier layoffs, but we've seen this now especially going into the Clermont born these horses come into a little more recently on paper. Yeah and getting lasix for the first time. Maybe the reason that she's over here is the ability to run on lasix which she's not able to race on over in Europe. Do, know this she's been facing some pretty good competition over the last year year and a half or so over in Europe, in fact, a couple of group run efforts couple of group to efforts. She actually finished second in a group two race just last year over in France. Certainly, seems like a lot tougher field than what she's going to see tomorrow in the Zagora, which is You know basically like listed stake race that be the equivalent equivalent of that Christoph Lamont. As strong as he is in everything, he does training wise. This might be the one category. That his barn has been a little subpar when they get shippers from across the pond of the US they tend to not win first time for Clermont, which is a little bit strange despite that I'm going to pick her on top because I, think she's the class of the field I respect Lamont certainly respect Joel Rosario and I think it's just tough to beat. Her class she was only a length and a quarter behind SOT SASS, who of course, when the Arc de Triomphe. Yeah I mean she's coming over here and she's not facing the covers one. She's going to see in the US She's my top pick as while the other words that I was interested in is the number nine. Hungry can for sure gay she's one of the last two and it could simply be about real estate. What are the longer they go to better? She's gotten This is one of the more impressive things I've seen. Jose are actually lost his iron last time out and then got his foot in the stirrup and then came running to get the money over Elliott and passer. She hasn't run since that win in August at Saratoga almost three months ago. Couple Nice works for this she's worked on yielding ground she's handled yielding ranch. Dream pretty well when she was fourth in her debut two year old over yielding grounded Ecuador. And I won't be surprised if she ran well again, to nine from Utah. MAKINA top pick reese number six goes as a mile and a half eighty thousand dollars on kick off the late pick five tomorrow at Belmont as well. So three of the stakes, three of the three stakes that we're covering all part of that late pick five, race number eight. Stay on the go to the inner the Awad for two year old a mile and a sixteenth. That's an interesting start right on the turn get a full field of twelve with an aide in here. Again, they'll run a mile and a sixteenth. Should it come off the TURF I? Think the stakes are safe and there's another race I don't know where the favorite is GonNa favoritisms GonNa fall. Wooten asset the number twelve four to one morning line favorite. Yes. Four to one morning line favorite warning line is what David going I imagine how the tough time making a line raise. Looks like several different ways you can go somebody's GonNa. It's really who's going to improve the most as a two year old that I think is GonNa win this race there should be some in here. There are two or three of them that look like they want to go to the lead. I was very impressed with the effort per member seven space launch in his debut. Last time out, he chased a pretty pedestrian kind of pace. They went forty nine and a half one, thirteen and three to three quarters despite that he flew home to win by a length and a half going one, thirty, five and four for the mile. So he came home and just twelve and one. For that last Furlong, he be a horse named Scarlett Sky came back to break his maiden impressively in his very next start I would think that this source has every chance to run even better second time out than in his debut I. Think he's going to have paste run at. Five to one on the morning line, I would take five to one on space launch. Yeah I'm with you on this horse was impressive first time out for Lamont may Franco he worked at a good trip on the manny Franco but he came a nicely kick and got the money scarlet sky beat a couple Chad Brown maidens next out he was second the public sector who's GonNa take some money in the Breeders Cup juvenile turf that will talk about next week Yeah I though it was good. I WANNA use the eight step dancer WanNa use the after mentioned twelve Asset Seven, twelve eight for me for all the things Bobby said about space launch NASA has five races under his belt. Already, he's handled wet ground over in Europe and last time out in the law futility just knows from getting the Catman who's also in he I guess catman would be the fourth one from mean here based on the fact that he's handled wet turf broke his maiden. Journey last time out from Mike Maker Climb aboard. They teamed up to win The pilgrim would fire. It will when they public sector so seven. I'M GONNA use four new space launch Rootin- asset I'm GonNA, use step dance nominee use cadman seven twelve eight to for me top picks space launch and race number eight, the Awad race number nine great. Very. Bold Ruler Seven furlongs on the main track of the field of six entered. Wendell. Fong ran yesterday. So I can't imagine he's GonNa Wheel back in two days. She other ride finished third to frenzy fire who will see in the Breeders Cup juvenile I'm sorry the Brewers Cup sprint next week he ran the risk of juvenile in two thousand seventeen He's actually run frenzy fire in the last three breeders cups honestly as four visits to the championships share the rides five two on the morning line we heard fatman openness show he's your to one morning line favorite. He's GonNa. Sprint for the first time on his car, he's never been. The seven furlong distance I don't remember the source sprinting. Heavier. Castellano rights.

"Got a call in any race, and Baffert says she's just very special. I think she's tall, Elegant looking, Billy, you know that right? Obviously. Awesome, right? Her brain's shot, but it's a two year old training. And Just like stand out sale in tomorrow's Kentucky Derby. Tis the law the favorite. And that 17 Horsfield 3 to 5 Morning line. Odds on that. "What was I going to say? About, the. Comment about so. That's a good. The Manny Franco thing. Would have been a good point. had he not drawn seventeen? How he not drawn seventeen. Maybe he gets that proverbial Exxon. His back. They can do all the I mean they can put it on them now to me nothing better could have you know it was weird when I was watching the draw was telling me this yesterday on the air. It was weird. I'm watching the draw from the corner of Caroline Street and Broadway mom was impressions doing some shopping and I'm watching the draw Tuesday on my this is the wildest thing I'm sitting in. Saratoga watching the Derby draw There was a little part of me rooting for one. A little part of me rooting for one saying you know if he gets the one whole. Maybe, we can get seventy five. But then I looked at the field and I was like he could draw the second tier like he was at Northfield and he wouldn't be seventy-five. I. Bet you. Yeah Right but Seven a five because I wanted to bet. I wanted to bet on him will art collector in the race getting eight to five I wanNA to make a bet on him where every dime matter understand. I wanted to make a big the biggest better my life. And then I was like you know what? Whatever he draws it's not really gonNA matter. In. In respect to just get them to the winner's circle. The best thing happened. I mean he's in a spot where and it's not even like the eighteen counts because they're going to break in. Johnny's GonNa. Clear with authentic. So he's going to be outside he's GonNa be widest of all. Now you say, well, he's GONNA lose ground on the turns I mean if he's as good as we think he is this a really matter if he loses some ground on the turns. Now, I don't know how matters. I'd rather lose ground a clear run for his devastating move. Then you know try to get cute and save ground paddled up. Yeah and and where's where's the other I mean how far he's not going to be far from the pace. He's going to be right on top of the pace here. That was the to like if he draws one I could've seen manny just blasting out and just going into the lead..

"We talked about this before I think if it had disposed sort of been a whole home field, it would even be a little bit more difficult to get excited it. But at least the Kentucky Derby really has a big star in it and the day before should be a pretty interesting race both both Joe and Scott on the morning show mentioned that they were both picking Tis the law and then they both. Looks and said unless he draws bad and then Joe said, you know he was going with an art collector and Scott said, he would go with honor a p in that situation I guess I mean everybody talks about the one hole is that really the only draw bad for a for a horse like Tis, the law do you think? I mean. You know pretty much. I mean you know pro post to it'd be no picnic, but it's better than post one but you know he's so good. I think a little bit is that And you know and I. Sort of like speculated about this I mean I I watch this racist I watch that traverse race and you know he's on he's under a hold for Manny Franco a little bit I mean settling on his own but that horse has so much natural speed. He's just faster and faster my and just you know getting better racehorse and and really just shown incredible speed or you can go back and watch his holy bull in February. You know he'd beats Eddie Indian so the I heard in that race before Fraser. Puts the brakes on to get off the inside. So to me if if if his law br draws the one bowl at that unfortunate circumstance happened. So I think they're going right to lead. They're just gonNA pull a ghost APP or and just say, Hey, you know try to catch to be can and he'd still be a huge threat to lead wire. So you know I'm I'm a I'M NOT GONNA get too caught up in position draw you know but I I still think a two horse race and I'm GonNa Be Picking I. A lot well now I mean obviously leaves us with with art who we got to see Gallup around the track on Thursday morning and You know there's been a lot of really neat Tom jury stories I think he's kind of become. One of the stories obviously has the laws of big part of the story and you know throughout Derby Week. These these kind of smaller stories develop on a lot of the horses but I think for for a lot of folks and it goes beyond Kentucky. At this point I think Tom is become kind of a rooting interest for them. Yeah. I think it'd be Real I. Think you're absolutely correct about that. I think probably during junior I mean really just It's a great story because he's such a real well respected horseman. There's never done this before and with our collect or it's really interesting to me. I wanted to speak about like what kind of trippy GonNa get because one thing about Authentic who I think everybody assumes is going at least have a head in front and early on he hasn't broken that well from the Gaijin a lot of races he broke better in the Haskell but there's a little bit of concern I. Think if if our clutch brake sharply he could be showing early and you know I could be somewhere to the bluegrass. He's never for by he's going to be up close from the SARS otherwise I'd be a little bit worried about his trip if he was like two or three lengths off the pace you know really. Because he has a lot of speed. So the I've talked with Emily from optics yesterday and I mean I think every you can't have the derby conversation without thinking about some longshots prices that you maybe want to get in there. But you know, have you kind of formulated any opinions on horses that might be twelve fifteen to one or higher? Yes. Sure. I'm looking at some more sit one. That intrigue that that traffic and and and and I mean, are you asking me who I am taking win rate? We'll get. there. Okay Well Yeah because I think that in traffic treats me because I think he's he's a horse that hasn't tactical speed is capable being imposition. I, like a horse like that did never finish his out of the money. He's been in the money and all starts this year and he's always right there in the mix turning for home. So I, think you know what they say. It's true. A lot of times the Horse in. Your. Your Position Attorney for hope is so important because there's just not a lot of horses making up ground in the fun in the stretch drive a in the model model quarter Derby. So horse like my traffic and Tracy from that perspective and the other one inch then I'm gonNA use underneath and my dodig wagers is thousand words and I know you know one thing with thousand words is his his races earlier this year were slow and he was just a real grinder that you just did wasn't able to run up on the pace but. He really showed improved speed last time I think that they had a little bit of aspirations for the lead and that share belief steaks and thousand words speed into the lead and he's thinking up for us. Jerusalem, who is one of best gate jockeys in America and I think edition of Jerusalem is is one hundred percent. If he breaks sharply thousand words is going to be up there in the top FOB. So to me, he has appeal as an exotic tinder. 'cause he could get the right trip who's going to win the Kentucky Derby James. I'm thinking honor at and I am one hundred percent like You know looking for a little bit of regression from fizzle off that traverse race because I am a hey, I mean I understand that his loss of worse to be and I do have some concerns with honore T I in that I'm hoping not too far back on the far turn because I just think he's GonNa be finishing fastest of all the stretch I'm encouraged by the fact that if you look at his running on, he has been able. To stay within, you know within a few months of the leaders his early pace is e one pace tastes. Ratings from net or in the nineties and I. Just think if he can get that trip you know like six or seven in the early going he's going to be in position to make his running the stretch I think that you you can already see it as workouts, Jason, where before that shared beliefs day he was working for a long and one to exchange. He worked at seven months nearly. Thirty. He wasn't working fast at all and those works. He's come back and put it in a fifty nine to change in a minute flat work and file for long and both those works. He's really galloping out strongly a the the next quarter mile, and he's just really turning the screws on and and he's got such a big long straw, that like I said if he can get position, I think he's got a chance out finish to the law and you know and I'll save a little bit with honor a p underneath an executives and tries as well. So you know I think it's between those two and I'm going to give the edge to honor AP. That, the only two jocks in the entire field have won the derby before I. Think it's Mike Smith and Javier Castellano. So you know. John Blanket generalize..

Shyam went up and Unfortunately, was disqualify to talk about history is race and in two weeks Kentucky Derby we welcome the lean columnist for the Daily Elation. Inform J. Quitman. Good Morning J. Morning, Sam. How are you? I'm doing fine, Of course. Ah, during these times a lot of members of the media working from home and Guys. They're announcing the ballgames at their home park. While the teams on the road it had been a lot of adjustments to cover in the sport. People cover Very much so mostly worked from home. But for race days at Del Mar, we're allowed to be out there in the press box for most of the day, and then we can watch the race track side so we can catch Jockeys trainers after the races. They come through the tunnel there that connects the track to the paddock and get some quick interviews. So we do have a little bit of access. And that certainly came in handy yesterday with all the big races that were run down here. Yes, There were a lot of good races, including maximum security, and you are on hand last year for the Kentucky Derby on that long inquiry, and I forget if you agreed with the decision stewards who seem to be confused where they agreed with themselves. Yeah, they love they had really conveyed to the to the public What all they were looking at. It was until a couple hours after the disqualification, which took 22 minutes for them to adjudicate when they've let it be known. The reason the horse have been placed back to 17th was because The rider who had finished that far back acclaimed foul. We had only thought that we were under the impression during the inquiry from what had been conveyed that it was just Ah, war of well, they were looking at what had gone on with war well on that. Pratt Hood for the second had, uh it had claimed foul We didn't really know about John Court, but that's hard to believe. It's been a year and a half. That all happened. Yeah. In fact, I had gotten that. I said, Well, why was he placed 17th had to look it up and find out? He in? Usually we're watching the race should thank you. This place Second. Him Steady was 17th in the race. So anyway, um We take a look at yesterday and then we'll get into the Derby yesterday. Think no surprise that maximum security with not a large field. But definitely I think if we went back to Kentucky Derby last year, definitely The best horse in the race was Maximus, Gary. You know, he's he's shown time and time again that he is. Ah, top horse. You know that even yesterday. The rates give up really well from yesterday. There was a lot of pace in the race and they used his best weapon and they let him go was supposed to In the San Diego is previous race when they kind of took him back a little bit heading into the back stretch. This time, they used his best weapon and the lead from start to finish, he said. I thought a fairly moderate pays for what he can handle, and he was much. He was very strong for the final half mile of the race, and there was nobody who could stay with. Um um He's now officially 1 10 times and 12 starts, you know, but he's crossed the finish line first in 11 of 12, and the only time he lost, he finished second. In the Pegasus that mon, listen. That was his first rates after last year's Kentucky Derby, any rebounded from that to win the Paschal last year, So he shows up every time for all that he's been through, he with all the unsavory things that have gone on around him, O R and controversial things. He's he continues to perform. Well afford seem and the breeder's Cup, I would assume That's what Bob Baffert, his trainer, said after the race, you know, was the obvious goal. The race yesterday is a win and you're in for the Breeder's Cup Classic, which is at Keeneland on November the seventh and bathroom, said that maximum security but I have one more race between now and then. He'd either running the awesome began at Santa Anita. Or go to New York for the Jockey Club Gold Cup. And Baffert also has horses like improbable and McKinsey, potentially for the Breeder's Cup Classic, And he said he'd liketo keep them all apart. A cz long as possible on DH have them. Meet up when it matters most in the breederscup. We're chatting with J privman of the Daily racing form. So let's get into the Derby because of The performance of four races this year by twos, the law, he kind of stands out in the field. Tis a lawyer is the one of the Holy Bowl on the Florida Derby and then because the Triple Crown has been switched around, he ended up with in the Belmont and then the Travers. And now he's Ah! Less than two weeks away from running in the Kentucky Derby. Yeah, He certainly is the the acknowledged favorite for the race. In fact, he had a workout this morning, Sam Back at Saratoga earlier today. Ah, he went five furlongs in 59 change and galloped out strongly again. So that will be his next to last workout will have one more next weekend in Saratoga, and then we'll head on Kentucky for the Derby and try and give his trainer Barclay Tagg, and his ownership group Sackatoga Staples. Their second derby when they want it in 2003 with funny side. They're jocky Manny Franco. He's never won the Derby before, so it will be a new Ah, potential experience for him. But his law certainly the favorite. I think art collector and Honor AP or pretty much acknowledged by everybody is being the 2nd and 3rd choices for the race, and then everybody else after that. Yeah. Now are a p. I believe work this week, and some people were disappointed in this effort on the shared belief. Others say he just Wanted that race just to get ready for the Kentucky Derby. Yeah, he worked yesterday, just before the hour and 15 minutes before the first race at Del Mar. Andi certainly has trained well, coming out of the shared belief that you shared belief was disappointing Race he got beat by 1000 words who certainly.

"You to man. Let's kick back with a cup of coffee and talk some Saratoga. And sounds perfect. Good Morning. Yeah good. Morning. Happy to have you back on board and it's been a busy week for you. You had a couple of cup of coffee segments in the Saratoga special one on Wednesday and the other one coming out this morning. Let's start with the feature on Wednesday and tell me about that piece. So I called Manny Franko which is it's been challenging this year obviously doing a lot of stuff over the phone. So. Called Manny Franko I think Monday, morning and He answered his phone, which is you know that's ninety percent of the battle. These days in had about a twenty minute conversation and It was fun. You know I I've always gotten a kick out of talking to these jockeys how they get from where they started to where they are now. So Talking to talking to him, want to be a baseball player and SHORTSTOP and in Puerto Rico, and I thought maybe it's going to be too small to be a shortstop. So Dad used to go to the track every Sunday and go for steak every Sunday ever steak there and he'd go to the track and Just started to kind of really like the horses and Dad bottom a horse he caught street horse. So he wrote the street horse around the around the town and gradually got were you know he could ride and then went to school and Here. He is riding Tis the law so it's Amazing Story and you think about these guys getting from getting from where they started to where they are now. Yeah. Fantastic. Kid He join me on the program right before winning the the travers, which is the law and I remember him telling me that baseball story and he told me he thought he could have been professional. He thought he was he told me. So that was pretty good He didn't hold back on that and I told him he made the right decision though choosing to be jockey and in the position that he is today. It would have been been. Fun To play baseball see how good he wasn't that pretty certainly certainly thrived as Jackie and he's ridden tourist beautifully. It's been fun to kind of watch the Jackie and the Horse jail over the over the you know the racist is for raises this year you know both of them just become very Polish things like, oh, we're doing whatever he wants to do. As he said, he can turn them off anyone's term on when he wants and just been fall asleep flawless rides in all his races Lovely. Kid Deserving e deserving his success and It's fun I remember my brother wants to he's talking to interviewed Javier. Castellano and cast the same thing he loved baseball wanted to be baseball player and we'll never forget he said. He said, why didn't have the size as Tuesday and we all laughed I got to smallest guy in the in in the major league. So yeah. These guys I think that's what they you know grew up playing baseball and and just gradually kind of found their found their spot with horses. Yeah they all came from that Jockey School in Puerto Rico which has produced a guys like Jose and I ride Ortiz Junior Johnny the Angel Cordero come from Puerto Rico and these are all people that are legends in our sport on the on the writing side of things and Manny Franko, just continuing to to build on that Legacy Sean. Yeah he He his class. I. Mean the three. three eclipse award finalist for leading apprentice all all in his class when you went through that school so. He was right behind Zeh Ortiz and You know you'd think about the of the guys that have come out of there I mean it's amazing program So they start at six o'clock in the morning finish it three and they teach them the from the ground up I. Mean they're walking horses. Muck installs really learning to learn the game that way and eventually become. So Great Success Story cool program be fun to go down there and see that program. See those kids get through there and What they've accomplished. You know over the years it's just been. Just been miraculous look at their success and you can just watch their career. They did gradually improve gradually improved at the point where there you know Manny Franco. It's been fascinating just to watch. You just got a little bit a little better each year and you know announce riding kissel also It's fun I I like the right those stories about the journeys you know where somebody started how they got to place where they are today and those Those are fun too right. Yeah it's a wonderful story. Again, it's available in the August twelfth edition. This past Wednesday's edition of the Saratoga Special, which you can read online go to this is horse racing dot com, and you can read all of the Saratoga specials, not just Schantz Cup of coffee segment which. Is a wonderful feature in every single Saratoga special. But the the entire paper is just incredible Sean. The one that appears this morning, your column. This morning is titled to Absent Friends Tell me about that. Well. It's interesting. It was kind of a I don't know I was just in. Kind of a funny mood does not funny at all really just Writing About about some friends that we've lost just seems like this year's hit harder than ever I think we've got more time to kind of think about it. You have more time at home and my friend Brit Graham who I grew up with She called me a few weeks ago about her dad pat. Graham source train or a train jumpers trained for power Tan Raymond guests farm back in.

Happy to have you on board listen we heard the call of Tis law winning the Belmont coming out of that commercial break take me through that race that performance he was so good. Yeah you. Performing. So so easy and. A Nice large you know. Hopefully, everything goes there right way today and can. What was your trip like in the Belmont? Manny. Put me in the saddle with you. What was it like? We're looking for what? Time Food Lane close. And that what would we be break good. I mean. Bad. I get said bag on. Waiting for the moment to move on here what? What is it about this horse? That makes him so good. Because they, he does whatever you. To read I guess you know. into. A man. Not Making facial. Many. Jockeys have told me over the years manny that it's the horse that's underneath you that gives you the confidence when you get aboard. So what kind of confidence do you feel when you get a leg up on the law? All confident that he will all class. He knows when they're great day. Yes. He can prepare and not me. You know. I mentioned that huge win in the Belmont, your first Belmont ride, and now you're undefeated in the Belmont stakes that sounds pretty good too perfect. One for one How how big was that wind for you and for your career? What did it mean? that. Means a lot to me 'cause. You know I'm bouncing me I I, call my house. You know. Wing back that that'd be great over there. Means, a lot on how hold my career I like to. Do. You know go to the levers. He don't manny a earlier this year. I had a chance to be a Gulfstream and talk with John Velazquez and we talked about how he prepares to ride in a big race. I believe was the Florida Derby we were talking about. Get ready to ride in a race like the Belmont or like today's travers stakes. What's Manny Franco do to prepare? Right I'm thank. You know grace the diverse like. Like another you know but. Is Different because he's got big CRESA. Everybody's looking at you. So thank to. The bathroom. Do you. Watch a lot of film on the other film allowed to replace of the other horses that you're going to have to face. I've got yeah. you have to the reeboks no idea. Out there. They got back. All, right. So write the script for me for today's travers. You don't have to tell me your exact strategy, but if you could write the script and get the perfect trip, what's that GonNa, look like today I looking for for? The. Reader right. They're not far. Now we gotta think from the break. He's Jockey Manny Franko, Tis. The law, the heavy favorite in the travers today he's going to try and get the victory in that one fresh off that. Big Win in the Belmont Manny what is it about Jackie's from Puerto Rico you guys just seem to continue to rack up big wins and be at the top of the list you look at the Ortiz brothers and Johnny V. And now you're the next in line here. What what is it about? Jackie's from Puerto Rico? That makes y'all so good. You gotta go to school but. They are really really well. You have to in school year learning everything about. Race. Horses. And I think that's the key that school already. Did you grow up wanting to jockey. Nah I. I get to play baseball and. That's what I do before I had. I. Never GonNa. Be. Ago. So how did you get involved with riding horses then? Because I, follow my that fact you know. Your way. Heart says Goto dragging. And Young Like I say I follow him and. That way I get him. What position? What position did you play in? Baseball Charts. Did. You think you were going to play professionally. I Love I. Love Good. No I haven't either this mall. So that's why. I don't keep going. I think you made the right decision my friend I, mean almost fourteen hundred wins later I think you made the right call.

Kind of in that the same mold as You know as this year's three year old. Likes like a sweet Melania and a and a decorated invader twin that. As, she pleased. Under Flavian Pratt. On on Saturday, looking for always fun to get Neil as they call them, let's get to the Belmont Joe. The ACA is us, and you gotTA. Follow Joe. J., BIANCA TEDIUM AND I'll send out links to both the written piece. We referenced that the beginning of the conversation with Joe as well as the video that was so beautifully done. Joe Tis the law. We just talked to Barclay me preceded you, and this is such a nice story for all the all the right reasons. Oh, yeah, one hundred percent it was it really was like a fairytale ending for variety of reasons first of all obviously the new. York bred thing one hundred thirty eight years in New York bread, and won the Belmont after all that. New York's been through for the last couple of months that was a storybook finish but also you know the the unfinished business for Barclay and for ACA Toga now the first year that I followed. Followed, racing was two thousand and three and funny side was you know really spoke to me as a underdog as a as a gutsy? Yelping is a New York Brad like he just was so easy to root for, and you know that really kind of got me hooked on racing that that Derby and preakness around and I was I was heartbroken and I think a lot of people were when he was beaten in the Belmont. And it was, it was It was unfortunate. Obviously, it was a terrific performance by empire maker but I. Think a lot of people latched onto. That horse was kind of similar smarty Jones the year after where it was just you know the the devastation. Thinking you're going to see a triple crown for such a likable horse have been having it. Be Over in two and a half minutes so I thought it was great for them that they kind of got that. They completed the triple crown. You know what however many years seventeen years later. That was a great story and he's just he's. He's a super likable horse. Manny Franco's super likable jockey, maybe the first jockey with braces. To win triple. Racing!.

"Unusual Season of course you earlier on Red Brand radio talk about the probables. I have that bunch. In front of me, we've had defection after defection this week. and it's unfortunate, but we're left with an overwhelming favourite in the law We would imagine that solely Volante DR posted, and it takes some money into him as the second and third choices in some tap to win on the fence. We Exceed New York. Traffic Modernist Max player Farmington road. It's not gonNA be a huge field for the first jewel of trouble. kranitz still sounds so strange to say, but it's GonNa be a very interesting race you know. Something we haven't talked about a lot here is. This is a different KINDA history being made this year. We've never seen this happen. It's unbelievable and Just a year of weird things happening and this is another one of those occurrences, but I still think it's going to be a great race, we we don't have all the big names we were hoping for. But! I think looking at the field and looking at the past performances for the probables. This is a good race. This is not just his law and everyone else. It may be bet like that, and he may win the race, and he may win the race by a few lengths, but there's some encumbered really good horses in this field tap to win could not have been more impressive in his last start solely Volonte. Good races in his past performances Max player very impressive win in the Grade Three withers. Last time we saw him have horses like Farmington Road Dr Post Who's won his last two. The unbridled stakes at Gulfstream. Basin, who already has four hundred seventy one thousand dollars in career earnings, including the great one hopeful last year. It's an accomplice field. It's going to be an interestingly run race, because it's a one turn mile, an eight as opposed to a two turns mile and a half. I think that makes post positions less important that this year than others. which makes things fair for everybody? Yeah. And you know it's funny because the smaller this field. Will the. Post mission will mean even less. And that's not always the case in to turn races, but in one turn races, the smaller the field. The less important. It's really going to be I don't know I. You know depending on what happened on happened. What happens rather? For me to say with. Tapper to win. He certainly looks like he's the. He's the speed right. I mean he's the certainly the speed in this. If he's the if he's in there and You know the dominoes kind of set up behind him. We'll see what is the law? Manny Franco does what kind of trip he tries to put him into. It'll be. It'll be something that's all I can say this six stakes on the car. You know it's funny. Talking to some friends and stuff who you know, cost them to the Big Belmont stakes racing festival I not having the festival in a while I. Think Friday's just the Surkhet and who the stakes day at Don foot. The the big stakes. Eighteen stakes worth six and a half million last year I think. That's not happening this year, but we still have a fantastic. Belmont stakes younger college going to be sensational highlighted by the. Great one woody, Stevens, going seven furlongs with a three year old, so we'll see what kind of feel that attorney might have a bigger Stevenson the Belmont all the factions. But a couple of great grade ones coming your way other great ones as well, but for the three year olds. First jewel of the triple.

"Threat for sure you mentioned cordero certainly one of the great uh characters in racing angel cordero of course and it does seem like he plays a godfather role obviously he has the jockeys for whom he is agent in johnny velazquez and manny franco but it seems like he plays godfather role for uh the contingent of jockeys from puerto rico did you deal with angel macho is a great quote uh but did you have a uh a lot of discussion with him for the peace uh no i i mean i air he was rounding our angels though ended around uh so a so i'm a and then finally uh towards the end of my reporting he he agree to you know let me touch of for half an hour or so but i got a lot of stories i mean i if you can develop angel cordero is a character uh pretty well and he he was alleged you know just fierceness than aggressiveness uh as legendary and and people still talk about it and you know uh one of many great characters that i got to meet uh while doing this piece which is really actually very pleasurable uh you know an and and also i must say uh uh uh petoe russ a security guard uh uh and i are uh uh uh was was also incredibly helpful in terms of telling me all about uh the grandfather who doesn't speak english and you know there's an grandfather of uh of i read it has jose who tried to make it as a jockey at naira in the 80s and and never made it a lived in brooklyn and i was just the puerto rican community and then just as the senate and also in fact of course that this is i was doing all this and puerto rico devastated by by hurricane i found that barges very poignant you know i really like that part of the peace for sure uh as an outsider again what was an area of racing body impressed you and what's an area where you think racing could maybe do a better job.
