"So I got hired in the spring of 2008. You know, came in as a first year head coach, thinking I had all the answers, realized when I got here that I didn't and it was really a struggle. I hired our running backs coach, pat Dunlap, and he coached Derek and Bill school, he also coached at the youth level. He would say, oh, Derek will be here in a year. We just got to get through sexual be okay. And I left the spring practice one day and the players are all spread out from sideline to sideline. And these are middle school guys, so, you know, you've got 5 foot 6, 5 foot four, 5 foot 5, bang, 6 foot three, almost. And I said, oh, that's Derek. That's 6 foot three, 240 pounds, Henry towered over teammates and opponents alike. By his senior year, he was bigger than the majority of linebackers he faced. If he got to extend that hand on you, you were in trouble. He's gonna swing you down like a rag doll. His senior year, it's one of the goals we did have at the defense was he's gonna get his yard but let's make it more frustrating than he expects it to be. I had 8 guys within 5 yards on them. And only about three of those 8 were blocked. He makes one or two moves into his 80 yards, and I remember I turned around and looked at my AD and I said, what am I supposed to do? And my 80s said, wait till next year. Athletes like Derek don't really end up at the running back position a lot. They end up playing another spot. So I don't know that you ever see a game walk like this again. Henry's final stats from his senior season seem hard to believe. He scored 6 touchdowns four times and had games with 5 ten, 485 for 55 and 404 yards on the ground. In total, he had 462 carries, 4261 rushing yards and 55 touchdowns on the year. Wow. You don't see your kid in high school doing this. One game came over to 19 yards to carry. I mean, that's comical. Makes you feel kind of special that you were able to be a part of the greatest high school running back. Does that ever lived? It's been nearly a decade since he's remarkable since your season. But Henry still holds the all time career high school rushing records. And on the occasional NFL Sunday, that high school game log still makes an appearance around Twitter. Arguably the greatest NFL defensive mind of all time Bill Belichick. He's going to stop him. You don't feel so bad as a high school coach is going to take Bill. I've been there. RC, I just can't imagine the prospect of having to tackle Derek Henry in the open field. But let me ask you this. Who was the most difficult player that you had to bring down during your playing days? I'm going to tell you what, man. Marshawn Lynch is the first name that always comes to mind because it always looked like he was running on opposite sides of a train track because he was bouncing here to here to here. But then I have three. I'm going to go fast. Adrian Peterson ran like he was an undrafted free agent that was once homeless and somebody said they had some food ready and ladana and thomason just flat out embarrassed me more times than I'd like to admit. Those are my three guys that were just impossible to tackle. No footage. I don't want footage. Yeah, I'm going to give you a note when a guy, the viewers are going to have to go Google. A guy named Lamar Smith, super heavy running back that was thick, but I got it. I would want to put up against all those guys on C you named hey, there he is, Lamar Smith, heavy, heavy, heavy, really, really thick to tackle. But RC, I don't know if your defense or my defense had a guy like this. Put the picture up on the screen. If there was one guy, come on. To tackle anyone? Right there. RC can you imagine that guy going up against Adrian Peterson or Derek Henry? Yeah, that was a good question. Like a great. Come on, now that was beef Yates right there. Carvey look back to wayne's world and guess parody commercial ashton kutcher and his wife mila kunis are in a commercial for cheetos. I think we've shaggy the singer. Michael jordan matthew mcconaughey. They're gonna be in commercials to as are of course sports stars terry bradshaw peyton manning ally manning marshawn lynch all going to be in commercials together. So obviously we're gonna see a lot of celebrities this year. A lot of big stars in the long run because of this pandemic. You wanna make sure you're talked about and that isn't always so easy.
