"Going to be a special part of it that you would have not just the game but this chance to commemorate one of the great heroes of the support of all time but will always be grateful for you showing all of rush how to chase our dreams. Well once georgia pass this new voting law that we've heard so much about. We saw a number of groups and prominent people calling for major league baseball to move the all star game or saying that they would support that decision including president biden mr president. What do you think about the possibility that baseball decides to move their all star game out of atlanta because of this political issue. I think today's professional athletes are acting incredibly responsibly. I would strongly support them doing that. So how did we get from that moment to commissioner rob manfred announcing that the game would in fact be moved. The decision was announced to many stakeholders by surprise and people who had talked to manfred into. The commissioner's office about this topic weren't expecting it to come quite as quickly as did so. The final decision was made after a call with manfred executive council. That's a group of eight owners but it's not the full thirty owners so manfred talks to this group of eight and then on friday makes the decision that he's going to do it and as i understand it. That phone call with the eight owners was less call of. Hey what do you guys think it was. Hey this is where. I'm going with this and i think there's reason to infer that was a purposeful speed. Which manfred was moving because if he does go slower and if he does go with a more broad base of conversations they might have asked him to delay and they in this instance is the owners. What do we know about where the owners who were on that call stood in terms of whether or not the game should be moved. Truthfully i wish i could put together an excel document for you that goes by every owner and tells you exactly where they fell on it at this point. It's not clear we do know that there are as any group of people. There's some who are quite conservative and there's some who are more liberal. John henry of the red sox for example who owns the boston globe is known to be among the more liberal. The ngelos's in baltimore are more liberal as well and day The the orioles put out a statement actually supporting the move. As did the miami marlins now. Ken kendrick of the diamondbacks went on a radio station. Arizona on monday and made very clear how much he did not support the move mob. You is we as major league sports. We as major league baseball. I think ought to be above Active duty political even. If it was available to him he would not want the game to come to arizona for the feeling that it would be essentially taking what belong to the brain we absolutely would not we hosted one and two thousand eleven. I view it as would be an insult to my friends at the atlanta braves for us to take the game that was there. Well there's been a lot of speculation. About why rob manfred made this decision. That clearly went against what at least some of the owners wanted him to do. Evan you've done some in depth reporting on this what did people closer rob manfred. Tell you about his thought process. And what is clear is that manfred did conduct a lot of conversations with a lot of different groups. What is less clear is indeed which factor pushed manfred over the edge. There are those close to manford who feel strongly that rob was trying to do what was best. Buy the players that he looked at the black lives matter movement in the league support of it last year and felt like if he did not move this game he would be turning his back on that community and perhaps in a way that would not allow him to kind of be taken seriously on these matters in the future. Commissioner rob manfred. He's got the head of the job if major league baseball to make these tough decisions curtis granderson. Who's now an ex player. He's the president of this group of players lines which advocates the black community and granderson pointed out was that you definitely can't forget the players that are going to alternate laying in this game because all eyes are going to be on them whether they decide to take the field or if they're disappointed decision decide to remove themselves from this game and how that's going to ultimately affect them on the other hand you have people who say well yeah he might have considered those factors but the real motivating concern was sponsors. Who would pull out this morning. Coca-cola's president says he is disappointed. The law passed adding voting in our country. A sacred right and duty and we recognize we have a responsibility to protect and promote it a similar sentiment from delta airlines calling voting access a fundamental right for all citizens and if the sponsors pull out then the bottom line for the owners is hurt. Part of the motivation for manfred was to get out ahead of those types of problems. And i think one other thing to note here is that if the game got cancelled of manfred leaves the gain in atlanta and then there was protests boycott by players to the point that the game could not be played which might be an unlikely scenario but if it happened then that goes on his watch that that is something that we remember part of his legacy manfred legacy after the astra scandal after the reorganization of minor league. Baseball after these. Juiced ball controversies. Go down the list of things that have happened. I don't think reputation can exactly afford a moment like that. So you're saying that. Rob manfred was weighing his own reputation and his own legacy. At least in part. I have to do what's best for me. I think that's right. I also think that there's a school of thought that the owners themselves don't know what's good for them and there's a reason they pay manfred probably somewhere around twenty million a year. If not more to be there commissioner in you can say well why didn't he consult the owners more and on the flip side. You can say well. That's exactly what you want. The leader of the sport to do you want somebody who's going to grab the situation the you know what and take it where it should go and i actually think you can argue that taking the game out of georgia was the easier route for the reason that if you had left it there you would probably have months of badgering of players months of questions of protests of. Could there be a boycott. Would players even show up to play this game and by getting out of georgia probably. The game is on steadier ground. Where it's not as likely that you'd have players pull out. It's not as you would have sponsors. Pull out as it would have been. Had they stayed you know. major league. Baseball was criticized for being a bit. Slow to issue a comment on. George floyd killing last year. Mlb also been trying for years to expand its diversity both in terms of players and fans. Is it fair to say that. All of those things played into rob manfred thinking here as well. Yes for the reason. That manfred is very methodical. Th this is a trained labor lawyer. Harvard educated. His whole style usually seems based around gathering of information and so any factor. You can point to. I think in most situations with him. It is reasonable to say he considered. There's no world in which rob manfred is sitting there going. I'm ignoring the sponsor. And i'm only going to think about the players. It's just it's just not how he works and probably one in that job would ever work. So yes i think. The league has heard the criticism manfred himself on. Other topics has demonstrated that he. Here's what people say that. For example the drama last year with between the league and the players association over when the season would start and whether players would be paid in full or not. we'll make another proposal to them That's consistent with the economic realities that we're looking at including the fact that our revenues are gonna be down over seventy percent and hopefully drama and manfred acknowledged after the fact a sense of regret and basically remorse that he should not have.

Late Triassic extinctions linked to climate change
"Increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere can have a dramatic impact on life on earth. It has before about two hundred million years ago at the end of the triassic period about three quarters of all species died out the mass extinction was likely triggered by widespread volcanic eruptions the amended enormous amounts of carbon dioxide causing global warming. These medieval county conveyance side in time with the mass extinction events. Manfred capriolo is a phd student at the university of padua in italy. This century campriello says his research shows that a single pulse of volcanic activity could have contributed to dramatic changes to the climate at the end of the triassic. "Win three one, win the series and six, but being completely overshadowed one of the grandest franchises in sports winning the World Series Championship after three decade plus drought is being overshadowed by one player having to leave the game doing a positive corona virus tests and that is just turner but that is also so twenty twenty Jeff Passan is with us this morning Jeff have little more details on what went on that allowed Turner to be on the field for the post game celebration. Hasn't been nothing really allowed him to be on the field. He just chose to be field and nobody was going to drag off after he won the world series. He essentially said I'm going out there and nothing's GonNa stop me I want to pose with the trophy I wanna be with my teammates I want to choose celebrate like somebody WHO's won the world series for the first time and nothing was gonNA stop him and the fallout from that we're GONNA see over the next couple of days hopefully there. Are No other positive corona virus tests on the Los Angeles dodgers. But you know that all remains to be seen as does how they're going to get back to Los Angeles. When they're going to go back, there are a lot of questions still jeff. I don't put this on Justin Turner nor do I put this on the dodgers but how big of an indictment is this on the MLB? They're the ones that pulled him from the game in a there's the one that told him he needs to quarantine. When we see these Leagues Have Championship Games. There are people in the League office who were their security from league offices are there where where is the MLB and all this? Well I think the security tried to stop him from going on there but he you know this is a guy who's covert positive. So is security going to put their hands on him or are they GONNA to? Contract the virus themselves probably not, but they they didn't stop it from going out there and they did remove them and I. Think Rob Manfred got some questions answer about how that happened about what protocols were in place and why they weren't followed. Let me ask you this Jeff Obviously La in second biggest market for Major, League baseball outside of New York in the Yankees Major League Baseball don't want the headline story to be about covert the day after the second biggest market had just won the championship. Course not but I think regardless of weather. Justin Turner went onto the field or not it was going to be pretty interesting part of the story I. Think the fact that he did go back out there makes it a much bigger story now because there are questions, why did he go back out there? How did he go back out there? Who allowed him back out there? How did they not stop it? Jeff what are what are you hearing around the league this early morning about his teammates embracing the fact that he was able to join them for big celebration. GonNa go on up checks message here that I got from general manager. It's A super spreader event on live. TV. Welcome to twenty twenty. And I'M GONNA PULL UP A. Dm I got from an active player isn't here. Now it's nice, but essentially it's What the F. is going on. And that's kind of a thought around baseball and yet. You guys were players let let's put you in that same situation you gotten cut. Seven years ago, and this organization gave you a chance you blossom into an all-star to guy who gets MVP vote someone who's made fifty million dollars somebody who's a leader in the clubhouse and is seen as one of the voices and wants to celebrate this thing that he has worked so hard to celebrate. Would you have gone back out there As a teammate I'm okay with it I don't know if it was me dead had tested positive. I. Don't know because it would had to have happened in the moment and I would have probably responded reacted to my teammates, my coaches in people around me if they was embracing situation most likely I would have joined. But if Jay Wheel for instance is tested positive and he's my teammate I'm. Come on man we me. Yeah this is so subjective Jeff because I'm different I would have wanted to celebrate with my teammates. I just would've wore masks I would have done it differently but. turnage Justin Justin Turner did wear a mask out originally, but there were a couple of instances where cameras got him. He was talking to his wife taking pictures with her gave her a kiss mask was off and he was sitting down on the field for the team picture. To his left was the championship trophy to his right was Dave Roberts the dodgers manager who ten years ago was diagnosed with Hodgkin. Lymphoma. So He's a cancer survivor. He's the person who has a pre existing condition and Justin Turner daybreak spoke for mascots at that point now Dave Roberts told Fox later on I think it was something to the effect that I didn't touch him. but you know he was he was in the same vicinity wasn't for fifteen minutes wasn't close contact defined by CDC but the optics on it as Andrew Freedom and the president of baseball operations says not good.

Three's a big time Washington football team fan. So I'm sure he's very pleased with the results of beating the Dallas Cowboys yesterday, Chris Brockman Mike del Tufo at their user. We were texting each other like crazy Saturday unite during the game for my Gosh unbelievable man where the dodgers appeared to be on the verge of going up three one and then handing the ball Clayton Kershaw I'll say, yeah. Okay Clayton. You're the perfect person to. Give us a world series Clinton for the first time since one, thousand, nine, hundred, Eighty, eight, and and the. The Tampa Bay. And the baseball gods had other thoughts on their mind and just an incredible sequence of events. An incredible sequence of events that wound up with randy arose arena. Coming home after stumbling in between third and home. Getting home because of an error in Centerfield and then we'll. Smith. Thinking that he needed to get a sweep tag on a guy who was you know thirty feet away from him and? It just before I bring in our next guest when I first joined NFL network. Chris I. Think I've told you the story. Okay The Commissioner at the time? Pete rose. Newest Commissioner. The time Paul Tagliabue invited me to. Green Bay for. The. Two Thousand and three season opener. And I went there and I knew he was a long time. You know he went to Georgetown and he's a DC guy and it was a season ticket holder for the. Washington at the time other than football team team and I asked him I said, are you still a fan now that you're the commissioner and he goes no no no longer he goes I. Say. So you root for any team and he said, no I root for the team that's losing. Meaning, he wants the best possible. Game To. Unfold. And I imagine that would be the answer of my next guest certainly in light of what we solve the week. Joining us from the world. Series is the commissioner of Baseball Rob Manfred. How are you commissioner? I'm good rich. How are you doing just fine I don't know if you just heard the story I told about Paul Tagliabue that he'd roots the team that's losing because he wants for a close game I imagine you could not even envisioned the way a game for could could finish up. Over. I I always do for the team that's behind in the series I think long series like the great seven game series we had in the NFC S. and L. She s are good for the sport. and you know Tampa was behind the series Saturday night but it was a great finish to the ball game. I mean just phenomenal baseball game all the way around I know what's so how do you are you? You're in the stadium or you watching it in the stadium yet like everybody else? Yeah. I, actually I visited all the division series sites saw at least one game in each of the division series rounds, and then came back down here for the beginning of the world series. I've done it all the Games and here until we're done I. Again I. I'm just wondering what what is it like for you to see something like that unfolded in front of you. The rest of the country is going crazy over right well, you know I, it was really interesting I was in the ballpark with a couple of the guys that work with me and. Between. The three of us we watch all the time a ton of baseball in over the years have seen a ton of baseball and I'm not sure I've seen a more unique and exciting and to a baseball game ever I mean I it was just. Just. All the things that happened. Is Series of events that seem impossible you know I know and again I know you're you're in charge of the sport so but you know talking to you like you're a fan because you are one of those as well. I mean just the story Brett Phillips to the fact that he didn't hit two hundred for either team including the team put him at the. Plate All season long put him at the plate in the biggest at bat of his life. He didn't even play in the LCS round. He's out there You know as a defensive replacement essentially on this roster and he's put in that spot and he puts one into play, and then all sorts of craziness breaks out like that. You can't. You can't script. Tell. Script it and just the pure emotion of what happened if you watch Bratton himself I, mean. the play unfolded. I mean I it. That's show of emotion is what sport is about I. Think it's worn things that makes baseball. So Great Just, the pure joy of winning such an unlikely. Or achieving such an unlikely victory was really fun to watch. All Right Rob Manfred Major League Baseball Commissioner here on the rich Eisen show prior to game six after an exhilarating weekend of the world series If I told you back in June that you'd be in this position one day potentially not to definitely away from handing out the trophy. In a bubble in Texas you would have said what? We designed for. Yeah I would if you told me That we would finish up in a bubble and and that's the way we're were gonNA finish I would have accepted that result very happily You know we entered the season with a lot of trepidation rich renewal is going to be a massive challenge but we're really lucky in some respects but was also a lot of hard work and sacrifice power players qualifications you know my staff the experts at work through this that allowed us to get through this and You know I do think it's important the game that we have a twenty twenty, one series champion I'm you're you're about to have one BUT Did you think it might not happen at some point? In time where we were really concerned about our ability to pull it off yet percents rich I. Mean you don't after the after the second outbreak we had the marlins and then the cardinals. were. Really concerned about where we were in a lot of people stepped up Tony Clark help this made the protocols, not only stiffer but really worked with us in terms of making sure the players were hearing to them I think that the staff at the club Got Much more aggressive and we were able to to to hold it together Rob Manfred Baseball Commissioner here on the rich Eisen show last time you and I spoke in person was at the Super Bowl I saw you prior to kick off of that game, and now here we are year about to complete your season the NFL is in the middle of the season. Those are the two sports that did not bubble up of you in the NFL had conversations at all about getting through season not bubbled up has there been any sort of dove tailing protocols and. There's been a Lotta conversation. Among the four major professional sports, the PGA tour about you know what works what doesn't work I know it goes back to before any of US started playing I mean obviously are situations were very different some of the sports were in a position where the the bubble kind of setup was workable. We looked really hard at it and just decided because of facilities and the amount. Of, time involved that we couldn't make it work but we've tried to be generous in terms of sharing our learning with other sports and the other sports are certainly been generous with us. Well, how been generous with the NFL again that they're. They're week seven like I'm sure your your colleague and friend Roger Goodell would sign a piece of paper that he would be giving out the Lombardi trophy. And I would be having this conversation with them two days before Super Sunday I'm sure he would sign that right now what what conversations have you.

"But I think he put the game and this he's not unique to this but he was putting it ahead of what this is really all about with the protests, props to the players who were not putting it ahead of right not going to go along with it right? Brodie. Van Wagon and he comes off he comes off well, like imagine if he had been on that Hot Mike, say a man Look I get it or rob I know where he's coming from. This is some bs but we just got you know what I mean like. Look bad. But it shows that he really it seems like he really gets what the players are talking about and what this whole protest is about. And I'm just rob I, don't know where you're at on this but I've said it before and now to me, this is just the latest Straw or the latest example. Of why I just think rob Manfred is in over his head. As the Commissioner of Major League Baseball I mean it just seems to be misstep after misstep after misstep and you know you can go back to the Astros cheating scandal. And I think his. I get it given the players immunity and I get it. You don't want to vacate the title, but to me that was the only. Answer to this situation because people always want justice and that's why the other. Opponents of the Astros a lot of the fans are so upset because there's a sense, the justice was not served a N. If you had taken away the championship readings in the championship from the Astros that would have been a roundabout way of punishing the players even as they continue to have their individual immunity. I thought that was a misstep I thought calling the championship trumpy. hunk of. Metal. I I guess I get it. I mean you're trying to be liberal but come on you belittle the very thing no way play for the the history and the legacy, and it's more than just a trophy of course. But still that was a misstep I mean I think not going into bubbles was the missed bubbles not bubble I get that but bubbles was a misstep, the seven inning doubleheaders even after you're already played nine at least. One Nine inning doubleheader you know I just think it's been issue after issue with Rob Manfred and then major league baseball attendants has declined every year under his watch and I don't know what they can do with him or will do with him or whatever. But to me rob this is just the latest example of how I think rob Manfred is in over his head and this is a time with the pandemic with all the racial strife. With the challenges that. All sports are facing pretty much outside of football the NFL. They need a powerhouse. To be there commissioner and I just I just haven't seen any evidence that Manfred up to the challenge I'm not as down on him as you are I think a lot of times. The other commissioners don't have to fight with the most powerful union in in the country and maybe the world which puts the baseball commissioner add a little bit of a disadvantage it just it is what it is. It's not as easy to maneuver around because the players won't stand for it. They're going to have a voice and everything has to run through them in order to to make it work. So I just think he's at a disadvant-, today's thing dom that there's no excuse for that but I've seen Roger Goodell do way more gaffes and just the way that the NFL's handled stuff you want to..

"Manfred says. They've given us every assurance that the testing program is up to the job. While the MARLINS and cardinals cases were unfortunate SAS Manfred? They've been the only teams to see massive outbreaks notes. I really think the criticism, the idea of doing it every day we've been told does not add significantly to the efficacy of the program. Though the outbreaks showed that Major League baseball players have been put it health risk Manfred explained why launching the two thousand, twenty season was still worthwhile. He says, he's received thousands of emails expressing thanks for a return to play women and Hispanic viewers. Manfred says are watching baseball in large numbers that I think is another sign that baseball is important to the efforts to get back to some sort of normalcy in the United States Manfred says. Major League Baseball has instituted several changes for this year like sixteen team playoffs. That could be a change that stays he says rules like seven inning doubleheaders and teams starting and ending with a runner on second base during extra innings were instituted to decrease time players spent on the field and their risk of catching or spreading covid nineteen. I don't have any strong view that they'll remain a part of our landscape going forward Manfred says. I asked him if he had a favorite, he mentioned the runner on second and the tenth. I think the one that sort of tells the story of change in baseball as the extra inning rule says Manfred in general. What happens in our game is when you put out an idea, you get people who are very engaged with the game who? It's something different. They react negatively our experience has been. If you go ahead, make the change and let people see what it really looks like they start to like it. And that's been the case with the extra inning rule it's exciting. It does add strategy to it and has been pretty positively received. Having. said that I'm not committed to any of them staying part of the landscape. A team like Saint, Louis having to make up so many games would seven inning doubleheaders due to Cova causes complications. A seventy game is a different one than a nine inning game pitching rotations or altered teams have less time to make comebacks and blow leads if teams aren't playing the same number of games under the same kind of circumstances, can competitive legitimacy to the twenty twenty season be maintained. Everybody is going to play some seven inning doubleheaders. Trust me on this before the season is over says Manfred I fully expect that that will be the case it's not a perfect season. It was never going to be a perfect season. It's just an accommodation to the situation in which we find ourselves. While much of Manfred focuses rightly. So managing through these unprecedented circumstances during time one, hundred talks, he also addressed MLB's embrace of the black lives matter movement and strides baseball has made in attracting more African American players, twenty percent of first round draft picks from the last five years according to Manfred. American according to one report just eight point four percent of MLB players are black a statistic that concerns the commissioner and that he wants to fix. Why, it's a general focus on diversity says Manfred, we won't what you see on the field, our product on the field to look like America, we want to appeal to an American audience, and if we don't have African American players I, think it's a turnoff and the last piece of it is our history. We are very proud of the role that Jackie Robinson played in changing baseball and in changing America. and. If we want to be proud of that role, you have to accept the responsibility that you need to continue to drive for change..

"Comfortable that the season could go on and that these sorts of major spreads within teams wouldn't just keep happening. I. Think the principal issue with respect to both outbreaks was we were able to identify how the outbreak began and trace it to a failure to adhere to the protocols that we had in place says Manfred. If we felt that the protocols had been strictly observed and we're still having outbreaks that would have been a different case for us. So what happened in those cases Manfred wouldn't share details and says, he doesn't plan to release the findings publicly. I will say that the violations involved the things that you would have thought says, Manfred inadequate social distancing interactions outside the team atmosphere that we're not carefully undertaken failure to keep all masks particularly during travel. Manfred notes. There was really not an in depth conversation about shutting down the season we felt that if the protocols had been adhered to in a strict way. Would have avoided the outbreak he says. The. Commissioner has taken some heat from players in recent weeks. Some of them think Manfred is laying too much of the blame for Baseball's cove nineteen cases on them. The. Players need to be better Manfred said and early August. Cincinnati reds, pitcher. Trevor Bauer for example, took to twitter writing that Manfred had a playbook blame everything on the players. Manfred argues that the full context his comments were about everyone in baseball not just the players doing better Look. Players are responsible for behavior. Manfred, tells time. But. He says he can be better during the time one hundred talks conversation. He praised the players for changing deeply ingrained behaviors and said, the overall positive rate is less than one tenth of one percent. Manfred cautiously optimistic that baseball will be able to crown a world series champion without having to shut things down because of covid. Would better testing help. Baseball doesn't test players every day and send results out to a lab. For example, in Utah Disease Experts have called the system flawed Manfred doesn't agree our testing program was designed built based on advice of some of the leading experts in dealing with pandemics.

"They're just trying to get a message across. We need to listen when that comes from Roger Goodell on like all man I. Don't know if that's. What it is, do your best good for you. Good job so at he's growing as a human being yes, cowering and height. Yes, yes, and when it came to the draft, I was super apprehensive, but no hiccups not want I. To Watch it was very well done. I'm like you know what Roger Goodell in two thousand twenty year. My number two I'M GONNA? Put Gary, Bettman is my number three because I don't really know enough about him and Manfred sorry Bro. You're dead last I don't give a fuck sorry. Last until you give me baseball, and then you move up to bronze, but for now you're not even on the podium I don't even get on the bronze even if he gets baseball bat. So badly in the midst of this. Yeah, but I don't know anything hockey. I don't know. I don't know about much by the Commissioner I. Unfortunately I'm a Sabers Fan, so I haven't paid attention to fricken hockey. And how many years way too many and we're still not gonNA play if things come back and we're talking about trade. Jack Eichel now. They try at least there was something happening. Yeah, yeah, they showed up. There was an attempt rate. The virus got to them. You know what I mean. Yeah, so, but in the midst of all this I don't know how you can't. Put Man for it. In the bottom of this whole thing, there's been some shady moby commissioners over the years and the fact that he is literally taking the cake on the wall. Thing right now. Because of how bad he's handling everything across the board you can't like. We said we couldn't even handle one good thing that we would quote on quote. Thank. You did good on which was a player. You kidding me. There was nothing wrong with the game when he came in. We're at record at the you know for the last ten years or something like that. When he took over, they were having some the best ratings of a hat. And yet. They haven't gotten any better. So I'm sorry. Pace of play isn't playing into your, you know. Anything at this point. But At least goodell has been learning like everybody else has been doing their thing and whatnot, and doing really well the NBA stealing on the show as far as how they handle the owners to the players, literally I and I'm not even a basketball guy I I. Watch basketball as the raptors ran for the. You know the championship last year because I finally got it. So. But basically what I stopped watching basketball when Jordan retired. The real test. I was. Real. Hockey and baseball. Time technically the second time, yeah! Forget. There's three the first time he had to go to Looney Tunes Save Them from the Mon- Stars and then came back. Danny Devito was the best metaphor in space balls, yes. All Time..

"That was pretty much. This is how we're summed up the MLB owners, or whatever said to the players how I know. We promised you twelve, but we'll give you six and the players are like no. Okay, how about a half dozen? No, back the same thing all right? How about three times put times to know? They just come back with the same low ball bullshit offer. It's not productive like you have to give so in this regard I I this false square on the shoulders of him, and he needs to do better, or he needs to understand that he's losing fans. He's ever since like the NBA got popular ever since the rise of football, he's losing fans spray and he needs to do better to to make this more exciting and to keep the fans that he's had arnold is GonNa, be one thousand, nine, four slash ninety five debacle all over again. Mark my words. Yeah. Go ahead, Greg I think he's GonNa. We've said Multiple Times on the show. A strike is already started. Oh Yeah. Multiple Times so and I think a lot of that as bad as Manfred has been I, don't know at least in these arguments Tony Clark sticking it was ground about protecting the players, but as far as that giving thing is going on just both sides, and we're not seeing it, but the fact that we know that Manfred has been doing nothing but this tear down the game we love with the. frigging pitch, crap the clocks, and now we have all this crap about can only have one in the bullpen guy. Has the pitch whole inning? Three. All that kind of stuff there's a so many stupid rules that have been changed and tweaked and this, and that that why? The game was fine before you came on and showed up Mr Manfred. There is no reason that we need to be screwing around with us if you're trying to attack the game to try and make it more. Beneficial for younger fans to start getting interested in baseball. You're going runway, and now you're setting it ablaze by not allowing players even to come to the table, and actually have a real conversation about how we meet in the middle and get this all set. Yeah. Not I. Don't know any other way to put it out of time in there. I. Don't WanNa. I don't WanNa. Get philosophical about this, but the main people have about baseball. Is that as long and morning? If you if you talk to the layman about baseball, it's long and boring and one time for it. Okay, that's that's fine and you know. Lebron's actually. been fairly quiet over the last week. Because I think Lebron is allowing me to have a voice. He's allowing Dwight Howard to have an opinion. He's allowing all the other players to have their opinions. During as we see the protests going on, Lebron's moving back and I think working behind the scenes with Adam silver to ensure players heard players get opinions, but I do think Adam and Lebron have a special relationship very similar to Michael Jordan. And David Stern I think when you get as popular as Michael Magic Bird or especially the Braun you have so much value to the league's bottom line that you are asked to have a an I think Lebron, accommodated silver, and I think Lebron's the perfect perfect player for silver that he's for the players, voices and opinions. "Casper. DOT, com terms and conditions apply so yesterday. As joy as noted a Kyle Shanahan signed a six year extension. To be the head coach of the San, Francisco Forty niners. Fell, in love with Sean mcvay a few years ago and I said time out. He's not the best offensive coach in his division. I think it's Kyle. Shanahan I think Sean. McVeigh's great, but I think Shannon has a chance to be all timer, and so we thought today if we looked at. Coach and quarterback. What is the Best Combo? Where does the coach elevate is their symmetry? Do they work together, or is it just a great quarterback carrying a coach? That doesn't get him. Here's our top ten here, Milberg? Tad I would say Marie and cliff. Kingsbury now you're GonNa Roll Your eyes on this, but do you realize last year? They went up. Eight and a half points a game together. They, they improved eight and a half points. A game and Cairo was the offensive rookie of the year, so clearly that Kingsbury worked. It also should be noted they were good team. When the offensive line didn't unravel in the seven games, they played for two or fewer sacks Arizona five and two in the toughest division football, so it worked its young, but it absolutely worked there at ten number. Russell Wilson, Pete Carroll. I think Russell Wilson's carrying this relationship. I will put it in the top ten. Because in the last five years, Russell Wilson has led the NFL and touchdown passes, but I don't think they've given him a post. Marshawn Lynch, always the right support behind him the right support in front of him He's elevated tight ends, but the minute they traded Jimmy Graham. And got rid of Max. Unger I thought it was disrespectful. The offensive line's never been the same I think. Russell is overwhelmingly carried this relationship, but they make a top ten list number I think the Shawn Watson and Bill O'Brien work together better than anybody will give him credit for in the last two years, when to Shawn's not been sacked or sacked one or fewer times, they're ten and together. They WANNA playoff game last year now. Bill O'Brien got limitations. He thinks he's a general manager and a coach, but I think they actually work well together. I think Phil Bryant good offense coach I think he's patient. They've won playoff games together. They're twenty four and thirteen together. O'Brien's mistakes are that he's not as good with personnel, but he's given to Shawn Watson world-class wide receivers. At least we'll see the Shaun Hopkins. Move how that works, but I think these guys actually work better together than people think. Number seven jared Goff Goffin Sean mcvay. In the last three years they have one nine plus games in every year. Consistency is very hard in the NFL by the way in the last three years. They've average twenty nine points a game. That is third highest in the NFL. most of the issues have become interior offensive line issues, and let's be honest. I'll give McVeigh credit here. He dealt with that Todd Gurley mass where they paid them too early. and. He didn't WANNA call him out, but Gurley was. Kind of you know. The Not really connecting with the team. They couldn't depend on him. He had to work with a backup running back situation, so mcvay stock has been sold I. Still think he's really really good, and I think the rams will be nine one team this year number six Lamar John Harbaugh now. They were first inrushing last year I. Give Harbaugh a lot of credit. For putting his arms around Lamar. WHO's not being paid anything now and accumulating talent I don't think John's A. In elite offensive coach I think he's I think he's really an elite human. Who understands the gifts of Lamar? Jackson, but I think this is a relationship that continues to grow. They've been disappointing in the last two years in the post season I still think they're kind of trying to figure out each other, but I put him at six. Number five I don't get those who doubt Brady and Bruce Arians I listen. Arians has won. Another Super Bowl? Tom Got six Arians won a couple as an assistant. Bruce Arians Wins Games and he makes quarterbacks better. He did it with a young Big Ben. He did it with a young Andrew Luck. And Tampa last year with James Winston and people you got to remember. They were I in the NFL last year in passing. With Jameis Winston now a lot of turnovers, but they had a mess at right tackle. Didn't have much of a running game and Jameson turnover pro, so Tampa was first in the NFL last year in passing now. They're going to get Tom's efficiency and Tom's experience, so I think this is a reputable, redeemable and very productive. Number four Kyle Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo Garoppolos way better than anybody wants to admit Kyle Shanahan. Record in San Francisco, without Jimmy G. Not great with them. It's twenty one thousand six. They were also second in the NFL. Last year in points per game now the reason that's note worthy as they lost both tackle. they had wide receivers banged up. They had to insert Emmanuel Sanders at wide receiver during the middle of the season. It did not go without bumps. They had a lot of injuries upfront, they're they're pro bowl. fullback got hurt and yet here was kyle hero was Garoppolo in their first year together being about the only team that you watch on, TV and think could go toe to toe the Kansas City or a Baltimore. Number three drew brees and Sean Payton now. It is not quite as dynamic as it was three years ago. It's the longest running Combo in the NFL working together since two thousand six. They have been together so long. It's just unheard of in the NFL. Here's the other thing. They have been a top ten offense every year. They've worked together including number one six times now. Their offense of line is very good now. It was not nearly as good about four years ago. so that's really impressive. Six Times number one offense in the NFL. Number two I think Doug. Peterson? It took me a while to get used to it, but I think Carson Wentz and Doug Peterson the reason I, put them over breeze and Sean Payton is because I. Think went to this point to better quarterback I. Think Doug Peterson has come off the Andy Reid tree and has really really been good He's Nimble. He evolves They've been twenty-seven in fifteen. In the last forty two games by the way the eagles have made the playoffs for three straight years. That's the longest streak in the NFC. whence last four games last year throwing the deck chairs, absolutely remarkable. I thought Peterson and Wentz. Even, during the Super Bowl Year thought the most impressive performance by either one of them was the last month of last season. The schedule was not easy. Head injuries everywhere wide receiver offensive line secondary I think Winston. Peterson undervalued I. Think we. We all know reason Peyton work. We all know Garoppolo and Shanahan I, think Winston. Peterson's best days are ahead number one not real top homes and Andy Reid a plus offensive coach a plus. MAHOMES has ten more touchdowns than the rest of the NFL last two years, and that's missing two games I think Andy Reed's the best schemer. In the NFL, he sent me something here down. Text showed me to plays. He's GonNa. Use against the broncos. Didn't share. It's just in the volt. Let's responsible of you. Yeah, so I think I think this is one of these rare marriages. When you get a great offensive mind, a great offensive player. It doesn't happen very often. It's just the perfect marriage. It feels like breeze. And Peyton like eight years ago where you just knew you're getting twenty nine.

Did you sense to a young player? It was not always player friendly, but it was going to be the new way of the NFL for twenty years domination. Right you know I. I'll say for us well I. Just know personally for me. Coming in I was a veteran team. Know very fortunate If I'm not mistaken, I think house I. first round draft pick when he came in and close relatives very smart, just in terms of He wants to build a team from the inside out and I think you know he always talked about. The stars, offensive and defensive lines now he put a ton of pressure on the linebackers in terms of responsibilities, but upfront he wanted. Tough physical, nasty offensive and defensive linemen, so I. which in IT You know to go to such great organization. You know Richard. You left and had success. You made more pro bowls. Were you surprised at all? That Brady and Gronk left, but specifically Tom and it did feel like Thomas kind of burned out. He done the Patriot way for a long time and I get it man, it's it's the weather's good down there. Go get a Tan. Get on your jet Skis. Bruce Arians cocktails at five thirty. D Do. You feel like it was a little. Burn out for Tom, and he just wanted something noon. Have a little more fun. You Know I. Don't want to speak for Tom, but at the end of the day. You know he's earned the right figure it out. You know just because of all that success that everyone's head and Tom Beloved in that area and you know even with coach Belichick and Thomas. Just the relationship that everybody I thought they were figure it out, but you know like I said Tom's earned the right to. Explore? He felt like he wanted to continue to play and. In his right, you know I mean you look at all the weapons that Tom has tap I think. He's going to put up numbers, but you also gotTa look at the Division that he went in I mean I. Don't think they're just GonNa Sweep de Division. I think New Orleans. Probably still the favorite. but Tom kind likes it that way he he wants something to prove, and I think drew in those guys, and even the Falcons here I think. It'll give him something to work towards, so we have a year with no TA's will probably have a shortened NFL preseason. Bennett benefit goes to who veteran guys veterans Veterans for veteran coaches. Veteran team seems as been together I think those are the teens When when even even I think it's going to go to the best coach. The best coaches are gonNA. Shine the brightest in opportunities in times like this. It comes the teams. That's been together defensively I. Just like it's tough when you even if you have just a lot of talent if you haven't played together if you haven't been on the same page. Negga be pro bowl players I just think football's totally different. You know rather than star driven like basketball. Thank you have to have the the teams together for sometime and also coaching staff just been on the same page and you know obviously we had that in new. England but you know it remained to be saying what is this? What do you nothing against Jarrett? Stidham but my theory is if he was. was as good as everybody keeps telling me they wouldn't WanNa Brady back. I. Mean they were ready to move Jimmy Garoppolo three years ago and instead you know Bella check had to move him. It's nothing against Jarrett Stidham but they've watched him practice for a year to a year and a half, and they still wanted Brady back. What are you hearing? What your guests about stem in ballot? Check how it would work. Well, you know every year is different in in coach. belichick mind you know I a hundred percent. He's GonNa come into the meat rooms and say you know what last year is last year. Super Bowl the year before Thomas, not coming back through the door, so we have to make it work with the guys that we have here and we have to create. Our own team right now in terms of what we want to be the season so I, think he's done a great job year in year out and I think that's how you have continued. Success is leadership coming from the top preaching to say Mitch Message to the team. All the coaches are on the same page and I do I will say I mean I I don't know what's going to do, but you know. He has an opportunity and. Hopefully takes advantage of it. Yeah I mean. He has a strong arm. We've seen very little video. I'll watch the little bit of of him in college okay. So let's get to two issues I a drew brees issue. He's loved and his community. He's kind of tone-deaf on black lives matter. Players call him out. And then there appears to be some level of resolution. Do you think over the course of a season? You are a veteran. High End player drew's a veteran. Super Bowl. Winning player will there be any lingering resentment in your opinion of drew brees in New Orleans. Well I. Agree. That he was tone, deaf in in terms of comments because it was never about the flag. but also at the same time I think He's got what his teammates there or this Mike Thomas and. You know everybody coming together I, I do think he's listened. and he came out and. Anytime you someone make a mistake and they can say the wrong things, and that sort of thing, but I do think he was sincere in. His apology and I think his teammates accepted it. So, he stood. He did run from it.

"It and get the game back on the field for the benefit of our fans. I think we'll have baseball. I think this job is brutal. Is it. The toughest Commissioner Job Might Oh, no I think they're all really really tough. I'd rather be the baseball commissioner than perhaps the hockey commissioner because I do have a ton of history, and there are certain cities in this country where baseball is so popular. SAINT LOUIS DETROIT Chicago new. York Los Angeles San Francisco Boston Dallas Atlanta, but it's really difficult. Baseball's are really hard sport. Even if you want change, it's different in football. I mean Roger. Goodell wants change joys. Brother was a hall of fame football player. He wants change Roger Goodell can have it by the end of the weekend. NFL owners have been much more willing over time. You don't have the Labor strife of baseball football I think an easier sport to regulate, not saying it's easy easy is compared to baseball. It's hard. It's international. It's billionaires. I don't even think a lot of these owners anymore and baseball. I'll be honest with you. I don't think they love baseball. They're like venture. Capitalist Fund guys even in the Front Office. Baseball's a Mancha. Ivy. League guys most never played baseball any level. So I just think it's a difficult sport. I think the pace of plays a real problem. We're I'm a fifty year old guy. I'm on my phone. I expect things are urgently. I want this. I want Jordache I wanNA order my dinner I. Complain if it's not five I'm over if he's a minute late, I matt. They'll never get to one hundred and twenty. It's billionaire stubbornly battling. Stubbornly battling the commissioner, take a deep breath. You didn't like rob Manfred before he said we were going to have baseball, and you don't like him now. We'll all like him a lot more. When this is resolved and I believe it will be. "Throughout the virus. Better than ever. You know how people respond in crisis is a testament to their strength. You just flourishing, thank you, thank you. It's different. Different. great to have you today, I was off yesterday. Does this sort of my Monday join knows I'm all hyped up with coffee and ready to go, so I'm going to take a very unpopular position for the next six seven minutes. I'm going to defend rob, Manfred the commissioner of Baseball, WE'RE! GonNa have baseball. We're going to have baseball out of this stuff. Just you know public throwing stuff out there. What you don't like rob Manfred is I. Don't like the tension between the players and the owners. All that is such an adorable take for you twenty one year old bloggers. Google baseball history. We had a work stoppage in the seventies. In the eighty S. In Nineteen ninety-four. Almost in two thousand two uncle rob wasn't around. Then you blame him for that. There's a reason baseball hired rob Manfred. Who is a Labor lawyer? Because the billionaires and millionaires have been fighting since I was a teenager. Baseball's million issues in rob. Manfred would love to change all of them, but he can't. For Instance College Baseball only offers eleven point seven scholarships a year. College football, eighty five players free ride. College basketball thirteen players free ride baseball. A handful of guys get a free ride. It's partial scholarships. What does it mean the best athletes are like Baker? Mayfield was a great baseball player, so let's Murray so as Johnny Manziel. Guess what they chose football. Free College that Rob Manfred fault are rigid unions. Rob Manfred fault well I. Don't like what he said one day, and I don't like what he said the other. You didn't like him before that. Stop the hypocrisy. You weren't on Manfred Fan of week ago when he said we're getting baseball. You just want to complain about something. Baseball's had negotiation labor strife by entire life. Had Labor strife forever. Rob Manfred would love to get rid of many things in baseball. He can't. It took five years to get the replay solved. The reality with all these sports in America let's take the five biggest sports in America. Everybody wants to blame the Commissioner for your lack of popularity, but all five are exactly as popular as they would be regarding any commissioner. You guys always complain about Gary Bettman. He doesn't promote the sport nobody. I played hockey as a kid. It's not our sport. It's not gonNA be that popular. The most popular sport in America is football, the NFL it should. Should be why it's got history. It's ours we like stuff that's ours. We created football. It's ours it's got history. It's got regulated violence. It fits perfectly on a TV screen. We bet it betting now. Legal in America and also, and this is not a small thing. It may be the biggest thing. It has the most popular and streamlined minor league system. We all watch football on Friday then college football on Saturday, and then the NFL on Sunday and we know the guys. The entered the league. It's the most popular even if you put Gary Bettman running the NFL, it would be the most popular. What's the second most popular now I'll just go with NBA. It may not be, but it's my second sport. It's got history. But, not as good as the NFL it was almost dead in the early seventies. It's our game. It's ours now. It's a little bit international. The NFL is not internationals good for global dollars, but it's minor league system on like football. Now. It's got a G. League and some guys don't play in college, so it's not as good, but it is very fast, but it doesn't have the urgency of football because it's got eighty two regular season games the NFL. You can't missing Sunday NBA. You can miss a month. So it should be number two, but it's got. Stars. And it starts very accessible. I can tweet liberal on. I could talk to the Ron. Then three is baseball. Does NEVA'S MANY STARS Equally or more international again great for the global dollars, but it has no minor league system unlike college basketball. That's got a dying. Minor League. System College basketball. How many are you? Sit Around and watch minor league baseball like nobody. The season is absurdly long one hundred sixty two games for people that say the NBA's to long doublet that's baseball, but it's got massive historical relevance, and let's be honest fall baseball's good, and it's also very popular in big cities, but again with a phone. The pace of play is hard. It's slow. It's long and we're not a slow. We're a caffeinated society. Then let's go to number four hockey. which not ours? No, it's not ours at all. We don't like that the Olympics we root for America. It's not our sport. Canada's better. Europe's better. It doesn't have very marketable stars. It's got long regular season like the NBA not as long, but it's not very good on television. It's not very good on television. Now it's fast, it's fun. It's got regulated violence, but all these leagues in America are controlled by television. It's not very appealing on television and again it's not ours and it is also. It's very international now. Let's go to number five soccer. Soccer's Super International. It's really not ours. It's got no history the new kid on the block. We don't really bad soccer. At least I don't know anybody that. Bet Soccer, and Oh, by the way there's a lot of upside to it, but at least hockey's got some history. I watched hockey in the seventies puck. It's gotten bad. It's the most international, and it's the one sport that not even ours. They call it. They call it football. They took our football over there or maybe we took it from. There's either way. NFL NBA Baseball Hockey MLS. They're all in the order they should be in. Football's number one because it is totally ours, it is totally domestic. It's got the most popular streamline system. It's the best on TV and we bet at the most. It's been that way for thirty years regardless of the Commissioner. You're all banging on rob. Manfred there's a reason Major League Baseball's executive office is filled with Labor lawyers. Because, they're labor fight every twelve years in his lead, and I know what you're saying. Rob Manfred. He just doesn't promote doesn't HAP-. There are great strata baseball. It's history. It's unbelievable in the postseason. It's big in major cities New York. BOSTON PHILLY LA FAD Chicago at Great San Francisco Dallas Atlanta. It's great. But a lot of things just banging his head up against the wall like the last nine commissioners. Here's Rob Manfred. I'm not confident. I think there's real risk and as long as there's no dialogue that real risk is going to continue. It's just as disaster for our game. Absolutely no question about it. It shouldn't be happening. And it's important that we find a way to get past.
