Why Why wrote wrote might might first first business business plan plan in in class class in in actually actually starting starting my my first first company company I I go, go, which which I've I've actually actually took took public public ninety ninety nine. nine. And And so so that that class. class. Nice Nice has has a a real real special special place place in in my my heart. heart. You You know, know, healthy healthy launch launch my my first first business business in in so so Mike Mike lions lions invites invites me me back, back, and and I I come come back back in in disguise disguise myself myself as as another another student, student, and and they they do do the the business. business. And And then then eventually eventually Mike Mike asked asked me me to to come come downs. downs. I I take take off off my my baseball baseball cab cab come come down down to to the the further further class class and and tell tell her her what what actually actually happen happen says says a a real real fun fun kind kind of, of, you you know, know, live live case case study study around around the the business business that that that that actually actually worked worked despite despite all all the the problems problems in. in. So So that's that's a a lot lot of of fun fun for for me. me. You You know, know, I I got got my my first first big big break break from from a a Stanford Stanford alumni, alumni, John John Michael Michael who's who's very very first first investor investor if if he he had had come come up up with with the the original original idea idea for for the the business, business, and and you you know, know, he's he's been been a a huge huge proponent proponent of of entrepreneurs entrepreneurs is is a a first. first. Estrin Estrin Staples, Staples, kinkos kinkos copies copies and and was was really really the the guy guy that that stood stood by by me in during the tough times. After starting the business said, listen, I believe in you believe in the business steel stick through this. You're gonna make it instead of worrying about each of the issues to send me a fax. This is back. When people did a lot of faxing semi a fax every Friday in the one good thing that happened and you'll see after time, you're you're making progress in you know, it turns out he was right in. So I'm threader thankful now into Stanford. But also, John Michael for gave me the confidence to stick with it. And not let the first second third or fifteenth problem. He'll. Knock you down every startups have problems, but you probably saw beginning one more step closer to the solution. So that's a key part. And the other is just being back on campus. Really energizes you being around you all students the energy, you know, the taking you back to time. When you remember that anything is possible? There's nothing like that feeling of being on campus. So I get a lot out of it as well. Not you have enjoyed a fantastic career experienced a dramatic is on lows of entrepreneurship since we can help from shop floor. But But can can you you share share the the finished? finished? Oh, Oh, most most interesting interesting story. story. This This happened happened to to you you since since you you began began late late in in Ulan Ulan company company had had -solutely. -solutely. Well. Well. And And I I said said well well for for customer customer meeting meeting last last week. week. And And I I noticed noticed that that your your sales sales guys guys are are confused confused about about some some of of the the products. products. They're They're missing missing opportunities opportunities in in customers customers really really frustrated frustrated trying trying to to figure figure out out which which of of the the products products to to use use and and how how to to apply apply them. them. I I think think we we need need a a two two day day technical technical training training class class for for our our sales sales people people and and Karm Karm says, says, you you know, know, what what you're you're right right at at a a lot lot of of complaints complaints about about that. that. Hockey Hockey seemed seemed like like you've you've got got a a good good personality. personality. So So starting starting Monday, Monday, you're you're going going to to be be transferred transferred up up to to Silicon Silicon Valley. Valley. And And that that was was it. it. I I was was pushed pushed from from a a technical technical career, career, which which I I was was really really enjoying enjoying into into sales. sales. And And you you know, know, I I thought thought of of sales sales is is used used star star sales sales people, people, I I never never understood understood or or appreciated appreciated the the importance importance or or the the art art of of professional professional sales sales and and went went into into his his office office and and said, said, I'm I'm not not I'm I'm not not a a salesman salesman engineer engineer design design products products Bill Bill products. products. And And we we just just crushed crushed it it became became number number one one worldwide worldwide eventually eventually at at thought thought TD TD k k at at later later TI TI in in that that experience experience combined combined with with the the other other lessons. lessons. I I learned learned it it so so consistent consistent stay stay with with me, me, my my whole whole career, career, and and I I look look back back because because I I had had a a chance chance to to go go back back to to General General Motors Motors and and IBM IBM which which I'd I'd also also worked worked at at and, and, you you know, know, if if I'd I'd taken taken that that easy easy path path which which actually actually paid paid more more money money than than what what Silicon Silicon Systems Systems offered, offered, you you know, know, we've we've never never learned learned as as quickly quickly as as they they did did it it growth growth company. company. And And I I also also think think it it would would have have delayed delayed in in in in maybe maybe even even prevented prevented me me from from ever ever starting starting a a business. business. "Let's go to Nick. In Mandeville liquor on the fan. Hey, tony. How are you tonight? I'm doing all right, man. How about you? I'm good. I got I got a couple of things. I hope they give me a few minutes. The first thing I wanted to bring up was New York sports in general. I know you said it's going to be a dark winter. And I can't agree with you more. What I don't understand. And I was having this conversation with my son. New york. Have you basketball teams are have not been good in quite some time? We'd have one baseball team. That's been decent. Not great. We have another baseball team. That's basically a joke. We have two football teams that really really can't talk about and the hockey teams the devils. Imagine New Jersey, I've been pretty bad. Also, and you go around the country, you look at large metropolitan areas Chicago has been successful knowingly Boston, which I can't stand. I've been successful LA has been successful taxes has been successful in New York year after year after year has been a disappointment. It's always a new coach a rebuild a new philosophy a new something, and we're New York. We should not. I'm not saying win the Super Bowl every year. A win the world championship a win the Stanley Cup every year. But honestly, we've been this bad for at least at least fifteen years with the exception of the giants. We've probably been bad for fifteen years and to me. My second point. I'll bring up the Mets today, and my son what up now prophecy saying. However with the Mitch bringing in this new GM, right? Always a quote, unquote. She a he was the Subaru Asia Asia. Okay. Am I brought this up? Myself. And I was listening to boomer listening to boomer this morning. Good point. He goes. Okay. This guy gets hired and the first thing he should do if I'm Jacob rom-. It's make sure I get a new contract. I'm going to get rid of the guy. I'm going to bring up the Scott Boris. I'm gonna get Scott Boras. Good point. Question for you. And I'm wondering that which. These agents they know about injuries. Did they know like what happens if the Guam this guy knew all along before you got the job? Maybe the grams got an elbow issue. Maybe the bombs got this kind of issue. Maybe the bombs got something wrong with him. Look at all of a sudden settlement is now as you get to heal surgeries. In the past year. Now, if this guy's now, the general manager, and he knew the secret is. Why are you to reach? Why is he gonna sign them? So I I'm just bringing up a lot. And they know that only, but this just kind of horse-trading in general we all living in New York. Like, you said a docking cold winter. It's probably going to be cold couple of winters and again with football. I don't want to jinx it. Everybody thought. Jameis Winston is the next best thing in the world. Donald okay. James Winston next year is probably gonna be working at Chequers the hamburger place playing that that how do we know about James? Oh, we don't know where you don't you? Browse a lot of good points. Donald look. I liked him. He's learning. He's gonna learn. You know, me I wanna marry for bucks. I didn't want with because I knew it was gonna go fall apart at some point. You just. He's got to many red flags at some point. It's it bothers me. When a guy says, I'm I'm gonna mature this year. I've grown up this year. It doesn't work like that. Easy. You are or you aren't. And it is it does. Open up a. Pandora's box. If you want like what what did you talk? I mean, if I'm the Graham, what did I talk to? When I talk about with my agent, my trusted agent, my compadres who now goes from sitting next to me to the other side of the table. Yeah. What if what if the agent knew that does something a little wrong with you? But didn't tell anybody or. If you're degrom, would you wanna tell them, you know? Who you wouldn't bring in another guy from CAA to be agent would you because? Your age, you're probably shared everything with him. I mean, we talked about this over the weekend. Yeah. You probably bringing Scott Boris now. Let me get every single dime. I can get. Let's go to Robyn Brooklyn. Rob you're on the fan. Hey, what's going on not much? They make a couple quick points about the giants game. I mean most people agree with fan. So south, obviously. But we mo- most people agree that it's time to see Eli to see what they can do. Yeah. But they can't make a mess of it. Like they did last season. No last season. They give you options. Like well. What do you wanna do? That's what seemed like alleged. We're gonna go we may need to do so spot relief 'cause election when the accident take a seat or something that no. So he keeps his record going said know if I'm not gonna start. I don't wanna play hell it. I it's kind of hard ball is no trade agreement. He's kind of saying that a lot lately. It's gonna be a little bit difficult about the natural transition to a younger quarterback. Plus, you got sex seven times and something about manning. He's one of the toughest football players. I haven't seen her at one time. Now is that preseason when when the jets hit the Monday chain, but doesn't get hurt. Like some about that, dude. That know I'm always gonna love him. But you know, it's time for to transition over and I always going to be difficult by but the same time you have to be very forceful about it. Trying to maybe you're trying to handle them with kid gloves. But my my only concern is if you put the letter in there, and he's got that same porous line. He's going to be we might not know if he's any good either. Totally. I totally agree. Not saying extra for the kid and fire right away. A lot of people saying this way tap, they'll do it. When the by. No I played another game too. Slowly, put the kid in second half. What you can't do it overnight. So it might not be week nine maybe by week. But we have to see what the cake can do. But this real quake. Internet that Adrian Peterson was the oldest player with a sixty yard touchdown since Jim fought in nineteen twenty one. That's pretty good. That's pretty big. Thanks. Yeah. Like the giants got issues, but you know, it's. Seems like the two things. It happened every week with the giants is. Gets harassed and the line struggles again. And is shifting guys around and getting rid of guys and move and nothing seems to work. How do you the only way you can fix? It is you have to draft guys in or trade for guys, and it doesn't work and. Draft guys drafting guys can take them a while to pick it up. Let's go to Vernon in Manhattan. Vernon you're on the fan. Tony how you doing? All right, man. How are you? I'm doing good. Ask your question in angle slip. This side of the issue. I'm talking about the new general manager brilliant fan. General managers allowed to keep. Be an agent Welby now. Yes. To give up all that. Also you have to. Yeah. Oh, okay. How conflict of interest? You can't do that. Okay. Yeah. Okay. I was thinking that if that had happened, you know, we'll punish. And listen. My general manager and pay your salary these guys cheap food. Tell you probably come. I think it was about a month two months ago. I spoke to you about when I called the w on staff members, you know, they had opened their phone lines about pick your general manager said to the guy said, we'll only pick up Giradi general manager and Steve Baker has manager. And again, the radio said, no, no that's never going to happen. The mess will never pick up a person like Giradi because he doesn't have any experience as a general manager. So I said, well, I'm thinking outside the box just says your guide nounce today seeking outside regarding the general manager. So the thing is that do you think this would be a wise decision that the wilpon hang up and listen to you. And so. Hey, tony. All right now, I'm I'm not I like some guy with who knows what he's doing. So you don't know what it means? Now. The three guys would run the team. Probably all going to be his assistant assistant all keep your job. You'll keep your paycheck. What if he came in and said, you know, I'm only going to keep all markers, all my. He's gonna run the the minor league system. Or what if he says, no, I got my own people that want to come in. But I mean. Who are his people? Are his people as other agents or baseball people you've met over the years and dealing with them. And and you're gonna use them. Is going to bring in. I mean, there's so many questions that have to be answered today is he going to bring in his own staff? Are you going to bring in people to assist you? Are you just going to rely on the Mets and the people who already in place to help you? What are you gonna do about contracts with the players, especially those who you represented, and we'll let you know day giving you an easy to do. What has to be done to fix this franchise, which means spending money? Was it one of those? Well, we've increased the budget by by one percent. That's how I growth. Curious to see how long the contract, I'm assuming is five years. And I want to be optimistic, but it's the Mets. They brought in you know, anybody with any experience and say, okay, he's done it before he's gonna file Hussein blueprint. And we'll see what we get out of them. But you're going to bring in a guy. I mean, I guess the wilpon had a good relationship and dealing with them. When he was. Excuse me, brings that workout. Degrom. Jay, bruce. Send the guard. I mean, he's got some big name clients. I just don't know. I don't know what the blueprint is who's his mentor rubber running club wind. You've never run one before. Yeah. Can say well, Iran. The agency places different. I just wanna see where you can you spend. And are you bringing anybody in among other things come back with more your questions is anything maybe have some answers as we go all the way to five forty right after this. Looking for a name you can trust for your home improvement project?.

"That just absolutely blew my mind this goes all the way back to the fourteen th century where it's claim that there were trees though are actually able of producing a fruit that when you opened up the fruit there were actually be a lamb inside the for a land a lamb they end up being cold vegetable lambs so one of the elise reports came from a so john mandeville and he travelled around the world extensively recording his adventures and he said that these trees would give off these fruits that were as big as a gourd and when it was ripe a men could open it and find an animal flesh and blood inside like a little lamb now what is really strange about this is some people say all wall mandeville was just some mysterious character that was made up by a news outlet to get attention or maybe with some top of it misidentification but call shuka himself has actually looked into how the reports including people like barron sigmund phone herbst on who was axed a influential officer of the courts in russia who claims that he had an eye opening account of one of these lambs so the baron claims that he had travelled that to wear one of these claim trees were and he saw the vegetable lam actually descend from the tree it had eyes at ease and this normal lambs bully fleece but it's tiny limbs had delicate hooves that weren't actually of a hot horny substance but rather mealy compressed heads it had this long umbilical cord that would extend backup to the tray of a high of around two point five faith absurd the lam would be suspended and would drop down to the ground and would bend down and eat the cross and foliage that was on the ground now if someone severed that seeming on umbilical chord he would actually wither and die and fall down secret man fish is sounding pretty legit.

"Of of arab thinker whose name was in cal dune and in the fourteenth century he published a book of the book of writings of scroll called look at dima the police gomina and i i recommended to readers because it's a shockingly modern view of what i think later thinkers higher can particular but a number of others identified as the role of something called markets now that name markets is sort of like calling wife the result of these chemical processes that we don't understand in hike is pretty clear about that really don't understand most of us don't understand very well why it how it is that markets are able to coordinate all of the different activities and once and disagreements that people have and reconcile those into some kind of order but that's the thing that that emergent property gives us so the the there's also of mandeville the uh in the early eighteen th century who wrote about private vices in public benefits how these things can reconcile themselves so i i think the nice thing about the poem is that it builds on and says in distant deceptively simple ways something that is very very difficult to explain and so the drawback may be that its appearance simplicity masks the underlying complexity of the claim yeah i think that's a constant challenge we have as economists and i'm going to push our role of the law further which is that i wanted the critiques you could make of that pomace it's too simplistic not about the process but about the the outcome like it's so cheerful is spread everywhere everything's great and everything happens bonded zone and one of the things people complain about when they read it is oh don't you need government you think you don't eat any government but of course she did do need government governors for useful in creating the rules the game in creating courts in creating police and possibly some firms regulation which will talk to talk about a minute but i wanna make it clear that when i sing no one's in charge i don't be no one's in charge at the bakery of course someone's in charge at the bakery and i don't me no one's in churches city hall they have certain things they're trying to do to a what i'm.

"Five percent contain according to again vendors newscast but it was really tricky yesterday there were evacuated five homes were evacuated there was a major emergency response took place in mandeville canyon and as you know medical canada's populated with some pretty expensive places pretty expensive homes so it it got me thinking here we are trying to clear these areas and we hire different people to do that that clearance amine again even the fire inspectors aren't sure now whether which official contractor or just a worker we you understand the taxpayers pay when the fire department is called and we got to put out fires and it's going to be a very busy fire issues and that's not just my opinion that's what the fire department as saying based on the fact we've had a lot of rain there's a lot of fuel out there and it could be a really nasty fires using and as you also know if you've been in southern california for any length of time october is probably the peak of the fire season we could have a rough summer but when you get into september october which are the santa ana months you can really get nasty deadly fire situations erupting so here's my question as taxpayers i'm asking who should be doing that brush clearance should it be an official agency should there be some licensing associated with it i mean here's some portion or people who are clearing brush and they started a brush fire and so now we the taxpayers are paying for all of what we just shaw we're seeing over time you're seeing those huge i don't know of items they must have used them the the the i know there were there were helicopter drops on it and so all of the cost money look it's important got to put the fire out to get me wrong but i'm just making a like to make sure and we should all be making sure that were attacking these potential fire situations in the right way i would like to see the right kind of licensing for the right kind of people and i know you say marked adult life that's the problem we license people your creating a whole other area of administration and bureaucracy no i'm trying to pretend i'm trying to prevent the kind.
