Why didn't they send the proper authorities out to reveal? He'd been asked. He'd been asked to hunt the animal after been wreaking havoc in a rural neighborhood country as not suburban AKA eating. In Colorado. The mountain lion had reportedly killed two dogs and Gary mule deer. Very funny man. Wolf claimed in this post and the woman who requested his services was nervous at what it might do next, and I bet you her name was Karen. No, but I mean, the mountain lion doesn't know. That's where he lives. He said, after finding the deer that the mountain lion had allegedly killed, he presumed the big cat had killed the deer. He hiked 9600 feet up rough terrain and exhausted dehydrated and cramping up. He eventually found the animal scared and cold, hiding, just trying to get a meal. And he said he drew back his bow and killed it with an arrow. He then claimed he had to crawl backwards down the mountain, dragging the carcass with him to get it back to his truck, falling ten feet off a rock face in the process. Fortunately, the mountain lion broke his fall. Wolf shared a photo. Yeah, probably he says it's probably a way to close to 200 pounds. He's also a fisherman and a hunter and regularly kills animals left and right. Well that's fine. I get that. I mean, are these, oh, here's the question that no one can answer yes, Tom. No, I mean, don't they typically relocate them? I don't know. Who knows? The population may be out of control. Who's to say? That's a big deal. "man wolf" Discussed on Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day
"It's merriam Webster's word of the day for October 31st. Today's word is lycanthropy, spelled LYC, ROP. Like anthropy is a noun. It refers to the power or ability to take the shape and characteristics of a wolf through witchcraft or magic. It can also mean a delusion that one has become a wolf. Here's the word used in a sentence from TV line dot com. In Marvel Comics lore, Jack Russell, on his 18th birthday, learned of his family's lycanthropy curse, which every full moon transforms Jack into a powerful man wolf hybrid, possessing enhanced strength, speed, stamina, agility, and reflexes. Whether about Zeus, punishing king like a yon for trickery or a perfectly coiffed werewolf, drinking a pina colada in a London bar, tales of lycanthropy, the transformation of a person into a wolf or wolf like creature, have captivated imaginations for millennia. The word lycanthropy comes from the Greek word lycos, meaning wolf, and Anthropocene, meaning human being. Halloween, the time of year when you're most likely to encounter a lycanthropic individual or several, also happens to be the perfect occasion to drop such etymological knowledge on their tufted little ears as a treat. "Yeah, lots of other things, but he also lands into kind of the same sort of stuff as Jekyll and Hyde and all the various universal movies that aren't really kind of renowned. You've got phantom of the opera, which is classes universal movie, which came out before this one. It's a silent one. Yeah. Which is weird. I don't know whether the I don't know, I don't know, but I like it. It's a sharp movie. It's black and white, and I would encourage people to watch it. Just so you can see the makeup and say, oh look, John Nicholson copy that later on. Yeah. It's pretty much the same. Yeah, it's a very minimal, I think, like you said, I think you've said it off the recording that you don't. You don't want to lose your actor in all that makeup sometimes, like as good as it is. You still want that. You still need the eyes to tell the story in the face. She'll expressions and everything. And if you just slop on a load of crap, then you can lose that performance. You're very much in the genre as well of the first talk is. You know, you're still getting that overacting Dracula. And if you covered the guy you make up, you're going to lose those expressions. Absolutely. And even the bit of sadness behind the eyes, which you wouldn't get otherwise. So you need that so we can do the acting through it. And again, that's another thing I want with a werewolf film. I want that inherent tragedy the curse and everything to come through. For me, like the perfect hulk film is the Edward Norton film. I know a lot of people don't like it, not really well received, but it does everything I want to hulk film to do. It has everything in it, my favorite interpretation of that character is within that film. But yeah, I absolutely agree. I think historically this seems to be a very significant film. And a very important film in this whole genre. It's not the first werewolf movie. There are a few. There are a few silent ones, a couple of lost ones, and there's a couple which you call a way of movies, but the really pretty much a man thinking he's a wolf and going insane. Yeah, there's a few of those in my research that I was like. Well, that doesn't actually count. A couple of French ones. But this, to me, is the first for me, man wolf, werewolf, you know, stands on his tube for he's got his little paws and there's something on the other and a jacket. And a stylish jacket. You need best dressed werewolf award, goes through. Yeah. Top out. Tails. It's great. Lovely little cane. And you know, we did set at the beginning, we're going to come up to highlight movies that people perhaps haven't seen. I don't think many people have seen this one. No, again, I think you're right. I think everyone goes back to the long chaining, goes back to the launch engine, sorry. It goes back to the wolf man, because again, I haven't seen this. I've seen them on the long journey on, but even then that was quite recently. But yeah, not only agree. Great choice, I think, historically, like you said, very important and people should go out and watch it, and I will as well. And it predates Dracula by Eleanor's three years. There you go. Screw you Dracula. Wolf. Do you bell Lagos? Anything you are. Yeah. You don't even have fangs. You weren't even the Spanish version of that film. You were rubbish. There were no nipples. Right, well I'm gonna jump ahead quite some time with my number 5..

There are symbols of spiritual cleansing and healing. Alligators are also symbols of power in status in some native american cultures. And you know they say that you know they are a simple of good luck. There's really nothing bad about senior white alligator you know as far as some of the folklore goes other than that you'll receive some kind of good luck. There's also there is one one little folklore thing that was out there that talks about the white alligator in being seen in it being part of some voodoo witch who transformed herself after she died and took over the soul of this gator but as we just spoke about if they survive at all it's not going to be for very long and In the wild for that matter so Where some of this stuff comes from. You know like everything else you know. There's all kinds of stories to some of these and well. You know any one of these days. I'm going to actually do some really good. Like deep research on the new stuff. And we'll put it on a show night. But everything that i speak of is stuff that i grew up with. You know and this is stuff like you know. The owl right so you get inside before the l. Scratch your eyes out What we had was the ruger route back in today way. The fleas bloody The fleas slutty was It was kind of the same thing. So i don't know if there was a dog man. Or what but it was supposed to be like a wolf hybrid person man wolf thing That would just share your guts out and leave you in the woods today And you know my dad. Even and hadn't i hadn't talked about this on the show before but just thinking about it now. My dad was out in the woods. One night with manco carol In a hunting and stuff like that were coming back from a hunt and they're out in by a black Lisana we had our family had four hundred somewhat acres of property which included mostly woods They were back there hunting and stuff and on the way back They they saw something in the woods that looked like a bull but it was dark. They couldn't tell what it was. Big like a cow was slaughtered. Something yeah yeah something you slaughter a shot at it. Yeah they shot at it. It didn't move. It didn't slant. And they unloaded twelve gauge on it. You know boo boo boo and it didn't move so they were like you know what fuck does so left. They all ask and got out of there so you know it was something in the woods that was alive and they didn't know what it was. It was just. That was one of the stories from my dad that you know he told us we we were kids. You know and it wasn't a scare us out of the woods because we would never end the woods invite black you know but it was something that he told listeners. Just it was kinda crazy man. In like i told you before the story about Going to devil small in by blue You know whenever that was it. Hit the side of my door that it looked like a bear it. I like it pound decided to my door. And i took off my truck and i was doing like i was in a back road. It was a double small doing about forty miles an hour and his thing kept up my truck and that was really never forget that dude. I was like Twenty one twenty. Two twenty one. Something like that. I'll never forget that arefi. Yeah it's good to me man. I was doing forty five forty miles an hour and kept truck and then head out onto something you realize. We are going to be doing a investigation here before long on in doing that. A documentary on the for the Deadly dogma in the hunt for the through which is also a museum culture. The route so we're going to actually be out looking for these things and talking to people that claim to have had sightings of it which i've already spoken to quite a few and you know i'm not kidding you. I went into that story being kind of skeptical i mean. Ufo's great huntings great ghost great. Big foot okay. Where wolves you know. I had to really kind of stretch to To really get into where. We'll thing because you know i'm thinking laurel and hardy needs to where wolf you know. You know that kind of thing and then all of a sudden you know. These people are like this. I mean they're scared to death. I mean literally call you crying. They're so afraid talking about this thing. And i wouldn't call them. I wouldn't call them. Where wolves eddie. You know where will is something that that folklore people people think that you know we're wolf is a human turns it to wolf at night blah blah michael j. fox. Oh no i you know. I think the thing behind. I wouldn't even call it a werewolf. Man is something that just stays wolf all the time. I've heard different. I've heard two theories on these by people who really honestly believe that this shit happens you know and i've got to say at first like i said i was very very skeptical. I mean and you know me. I've got a pretty good open mind. I mean i'll. I'll look at all angles on something else that they're all trying to bunk. I'll check it out. There's no way. To debunk which you can't find. I think we just lost him. But yeah there's no way there's no way to debunk which you can't find what you can't see what you can't feel. You have to start looking at people as a whole in. Look at and see you know if if they're just filling fulla shit or what the case might be and after you speak to these people you realize that there. They mean what they say. They're not lying. They believe that something happened to james. You are stuck in between man. I cannot bring you back into the show. You're gonna have to jump out and jump back in. He's in the in between. How cool is that on a paranoid. Yep no kidding he stuck. Easies in purgatory. That's cool. That's really cool. Yeah okay he just jumped out. So hopefully he'll come back in and we'll be able to pull them back up. But yes i mean that's the whole thing about the the hunt for the lichen throats is that you know people have called out. They feel scared there. They've seen him some people claim. They've seen him kill people. I mean you've got witnesses that say that these things can read your mind. They know they can follow you home. They can find where you live all that kind of stuff. So i don't know man i mean it's one of those things where you know. I hope we get some kind of evidence to kind of pull me in a little bit more. Because i'm right there. I'm right there. But i just need a little bit more and i still cannot get james in.

We hold these truths to be self evident all the way to like hippies in the sixties and maybe nafta and if we can skip all the other stuff that happened in the middle. "Before we get into all. These are inappropriate achievements. Though i gotta go back to zero issue right the beginning of brian and rachel how did you guys like what was. The interest getting started in comics. And please give us your childhood. Favorite superheroes villains brian. I'll go back to you. I oh that's that is the correct sequencing. Since we're gonna go age by meant by. Vincent i've been I the first comic. I ever remember seeing was an you know. It's so funny. Because i can remember the cover perfectly. I don't remember. I don't remember the issue number but it was a. It was a in the hundreds of amazing spider man and it was j john james on the cover cowering under his desk while the man wolf comes crashing through and gets a john john senior cover and spiderman. Fight them in wolf and jj jason's begging begging him. Please don't hurt him. He's my son right and that and it was over at that moment right. I was just like what is this. I don't know what this medium is. I want to open it up. And i wanna find out about this and i remember it to this day So so spider-man's always hold hell. They're really special place in my heart. But but i think that the When i when. I think about a comic character. That's my favorite. It may actually end up being kitty simply because she was on the cover of x men uncanny x one forty one which when i was a fateful day in nineteen eighty i wandered into a ti mo cigar store in brooklyn to you know. Buy some swedish fish or something and that comic cover was on the stand and it just kick my life at totally. Transplants woah my life. It's why i make comics. Twelve worked in comics at twi. How i met my wife and how everything about my life on a completely different variant. If i if. I if i if i don't walk into that store that day and seeing that car so from there i just i. I started working in comics in high school. I worked for a company called deluxe comics which was a startup in brooklyn. That was working with dave cockram. And george perez. And steve dicko and keith giffen and robert loren fleming and right hamas it was it was kind of a pretty heady introduction into the world of comics for me For from there. I started my own publishing company called eternity comics which was a black and white Outfit you know during that comic's boom Worked with a lot of amazing people there and eventually stepped away from comics. After after that working games came back to comics. Did some work for marvel as a writer and know somehow somehow trying to condense all those years into may starting to pop We this is. This is just like this. Culmination of like The superhero genre of comics comics way bigger than superior right. I don't want any ever confuse superheroes as just comic. I think that the medium is dramatic but the genre super ariza something. I've loved my life life and this is this is my this world that I started creating in that. Rachel has been been shepherding into existence. Two very different. Things is really a love letter to that jar for me. And and you know rachel's just an amazing job bringing that to life bringing it to this really modern take on the genre that's don't feel classic and and bringing some amazing people on board to help tell the stories that we've we've imagined into existence so rachel when i want to tell your story here Well comic always as a comics. Fandom has always been part of my Life because my dad and my uncle and my mom she always gets mad. If i don't mention she used to collect store Very strongly my dad. My uncle both very big comics. People my dad had all these comics. History books my uncle collected marvels in the seventies So i kind of grew up already absorbed in the medium just reading all this amazing vintage stuff And i love comics right from the get. Go the two the two issues. I remember i buying Was the brave and the bold. I think it's one ninety. Five when batman teamed up with rag man and it was so cool because rag man was such a mysterious figure that he freaked out even batman. And you wanna read a story about that you want to be like. Who is this guy so creepy even batmans like. Wow yes yes And the other. One that i really remember very clearly was amethyst number one princess of ruled To me she was just like such a perfect fantasy character for me to get into because she starts out as normal thirteen year old. She goes into this other universe where she's actually lost princess of the world she ages from thirteen to twenty. So you know. She looks gorgeous in everything. Tell me that's not a little girl dream. come true exactly right exactly And i want to point out. That was edited by karen. Berger who went went on to found vertigo and karen i think criminally underrated in terms of what she did for the industry. By the founding of vertigo She elevated superheroes in a whole nother direction before really letting vertigo run off in its own amazing business model. That straddled that line where people go from say like superheroes but they want something that they feel is kind of less. You know embarrassing even though superheroes wonderful absolutely but anyway that's tangent so for me In college i realized that comics were made by actual people. I already knew. I wanted to be editor and i was like. Hey i could edit comics. That's.

I well well then. You're not gonna like this literally wrote this down this morning. Oh my goodness gracious. Everybody says sit down. Alex alex has something to announce to the class. Wait no no hold on. Hold on wait this. Even this is i thought you had a prepared statement given opening remark. Or you know this. This is very important because you and me a little bit because as as you know. I do the note card. My wife got accepted two nights ago. My wife got accepted. That tell you about this. no. I didn't get a dream. A dream should dream in a dream. Like a lucid dream note. She was in the dream. And it was the most mundane dream of all time in the dream. She was really tired and went to sleep and then had a dream. Ask somebody who's not getting enough sleep. And it's true because i thought oh that's a normal thing that happens all right never you wake up and you're like oh man and and then there's then you realize you're having a nightmare. It's like a dive. Oh yeah The nfl oh i wrote nfc puzzle on a note card this morning. Is that a new zealand card. That's really that's a system card. Oh that's beautiful. yes. Yeah yeah. I know so you ever prepared statement. Oh my goodness oh you in your own time. Take your time i. This is my day this entire day. I actually this guy i do. I do wanna get into it. Would you be opposed to at the very beginning of the episode being like. Hey you're not in trouble and we have done this a couple times before like. Hey we're a you're not in trouble you just you know as we do talk about a mental illness stuff and it might not be your jamshed arabs. Something like that i started. I started watching american horror story last night which wait which season where just season i started. I started the beginning murder house. I've never seen the show. I've never seen the show. I'm interested in the idea of ryan murphy and had heard things about this show and oh my god it's such a good bad show it So but it's right in my wheelhouse for. Oh it's eleven. I think. I got another hour or so in me. Holy shit and i went through a bunch of any against speaking of friday night lights mrs coach in it. It's got it's got the guy whose name i always confuse it everybody else. It's not dealing mcmurphy. Whatever that guy. Don't jerk dermot mulroney. it's got him and and and they had a daughter night at the beginning. We always like to call him tags at the beginning to the pop like this episode of invincible has this episode of the boys has gore and violence and language. Whatever that means. I hope almost all shows that aren't silent have language but but this one had so many tax including cw type stuff. I am absolutely not opposed to that And and you know there was just. There was so much of the things that i'm not even twa about but wolf like quicksilver walks in and she's oh man wolf. Oh i've seen the first season in a very long time but also is on their on their in flashbacks. Really good flashback. fucking gavin. belsen. The oh i don't even given belsen is the doctor who built the house in the twenties for his wife and in one thousand twenty six things. Got a little bit harry. Is this the season where. There's no sarah paulson. I have not seen the pulse in yet. I believe. I shot four last night. I've seen her in the credits. I've always heard this is a very like i mean. I'm using these buffy first season. Oh i'm enjoying it. But like i don't mean to be putting these right next to each other but i'd heard it's pretty. It's got a queer sensibility that it's kind of kinky that it's kinda like that. There's yeah but it's also it's almost like a stranger things level of like. Oh my god. Classic tropes stephen king and You know and stanley kubrick and stuff like that. I think that's totally fine. So at the top of the show will do very tasteful warning that we're talk about brains tasteful the beanie calorie counting. Or we're gonna talk about calorie counting. I don't think so but there We're gonna talk about hacking. I'm trying to p. o. Like with the sticks. Oh did you listen to the kito episode of. Oh yeah by. Friday where we talk about podcast. Beulah very latest. One is just finished. This morning is passed on to get a little fast and loose. I don't think it is. I as a science show. I think as a hanging out with friends. Show the yellow fastest. But but it's yeah and lately. They've gotten a little bit. There's a little bit. But i still enjoy it but dion but this one was about the the researcher ever alexandria alexan- had you ever heard because in a different life you you you have been a woman person and you're always getting bumped about food and like if you want to lose weight you gotta eat less. If you wanna eat less. You do what he do smaller plate. Oh this is that guy this guy and analyst for you but all the way and it's there's so there's so much shit in this episode that hits especially. Oh god michael and audrey yes. Yes presses a ton of both their buttons but especially because it's like institutional health programs stuff for like like google wanted to do a thing that when you check out at the cafeteria they'd show you an ai simulate a photo of what you look like in a year if you kept eating that same food..

I won't the question is if you believe that about somebody no matter who it is and you know it could be. Mother-in-law could be adolf hitler. Do you think they will born evil. Do you think they were born in evil baby and grew into evil adult. Or you think it's acquired through our lives and an experience in an environment. I don't believe anybody as warning. I believe everybody is born neutral and as you're growing up in the experiences that you have in the way you're taught as you're growing up is what forms you into our. I don't know. I mean there are just some people that were evil like at a very young age that it started and did some pretty horrendous things and just kept going on until they got clock right. Yeah look at dom ner didn't he kill his own mother at a young age. I think he started by killing young animals and stuff like four or five. Yeah yeah i mean you know. Yeah so that's what that puzzles me. I think that does have a paranormal aspect to it. Like the nature of evil itself. Because you know. I don't know if this falls into your categories study but i think demons are clearly on the The radar of paramount paranormal study. And so i kind of like what is the nature of of of even within human beings is to me a fascinating thing. Because i look at people that you mentioned dahmer or anybody who will seemed to have it at such an early age like it couldn't have been environmental had. Where does it come up. I think they can be. Oh look at look at how manson claims that he was. You know manton hannity a trial lots and lots of trauma is growing up you know and then pretty much institutionalized most of his life until all of that started manson is also unique in Legal annals in that. He's the only guy who has ever been convicted of a murder that we knew he didn't do right now but he while you eat. That's a tough. That's a tough player row but but yeah it is it is it is what it is. I mean he was able to control those people and get them to do what he wanted and he did it all by feeding them drugs and you know praying and pray and and you know some of them went from broken homes or broken you know. Something was broken to begin with and preyed on that. He was good at it right. Yeah just a curiosity for me. It seems to me that what you guys are looking into Especially if you're talking about local is what we call. crypto You know beings. I guess.
