"Well, it's first race as a four year old, at Mama, Park literally drug groom to the Paddock took to the turf course and went onto the the first over a million dollars per John Forbes so and run multiple multiple. Greatest fake races and is in the Mamas. Fame too little He was a lot of flooding of the best. The biggest name I got to be around with John was obviously killed the cat. And in that same partnership, there were a couple of Phillies Amarillo who won the Delaware Handicap I mean just Pay Course, after stay cooler. So was fun fun being involved in the Partnership And Win John Retired. A lot of the partners now are still with me and we have the partnerships going on so. You get to be around some nice pedigree, young. And the plan is if your show they have talent at three and four, we keep them if not then they go to the claiming races or retired depending on their level of ability. But yes, just a a wonderful. Way, to, keep young horses coming in Barton every year so. You know when I was looking back through all of the great stakes winners that came through John's operation, and of course, as I mentioned, you had a big hand in that There was one name I wasn't familiar with the name. So I went back and looked up the horse, but I thought the name cool. The name of the horses peanut butter on it tell me about that horse. Peanut butter on it was a chestnut gambling that we had claimed for a client I think for twenty five thousand and he also went on to win many stakes and yeah he was just a big need gelding and and couldn't have been more fun to be around and yeah, he was very Very precocious at monmouth Clark's they use a lot of fun to. Did it help when you ended up taking over after John Retired and I guess that's the way it went down. Right? You ended up taking over his operation pretty much and then and then moving on from there is that right? Correct Yeah Yeah Okay would you ended up taking over the operation? Does it help you now having been around so many good horses does that help a trainer when they when they finally take over and start doing it on their own? Yeah I think to be around nice horses but also us being the claiming operation. You know knowing what it takes to keep a horse sand and and feeling good. Yes. Like I said, the back I was always around forty or more staples, and at one time John had free springs forces I was in charge of one. Kind. And and back, then it was unheard of to have that many bushes now. Now they're screen as it has probably two or three times as many voices as we had back then but Just to see the numbers. and to be around forty four stable just shows you so much. So yeah. Talking we trainer Pat McBurney here on trainer talk presented by phase tipped of course that big win this past weekend Golden Brown and the Irish War Cry Handicap at Monmouth. That's just one of many big moments. He's been part of in his career and talking about John Forbes who he worked with for a long time You know there there's There's horsemen game and there are trainers in this game and and I've done the show long enough. Now Pat to realize that there's a difference between the two. There are true horsemen and I think when you look at a guy like John Forbes. You look at him as a horseman right you don't look at him a strictly just a trainer. Correct. Yeah. I, mean the way he was raised with the family and everything and and the work ethic of John Tomorrow Staples. was. John Forbes. John's own son John Tomorrow's a fourth I believe and yeah, I mean just the whole family was into horse racing. So And, you mentioned the claiming game and obviously acclaiming operation and keeping horses sound in how do you do that? Take me inside that. That's a whole different approach to training take me inside the claiming game and and your approach in your philosophy to being successful in that arena. I mean there, there are so many tools available nowadays that maybe we didn't have. But one of the main things going back to John Kamara was like marking the program he would have John Forbes and his son John Tomorrow and. His other Mike Tomorrow I mean their job would be to stand at the paddock all day and just mark the legs of every course in and spot potential clean gin you look at the leasing form. And there were a lot more levels back then of course, racing back then. But Big John's Kalafi, was you know it? Can only improve a racehorse if you can train them. If, you claim a sore horse, you can improve them because he can't take the training and I mean back then big John Tomorrow with Klay, Morse's, and they'd go on to win stake races. and. Yeah the whole philosophy of you know if. We had a bad mark on a horse within like California move. You know win lose or draw. There were no qualms about it. You just would move onto the next one because. He'd also say you know. If don't spend the money, you can't lose the money he said when you. said. If you're going to claim horse, you claim it that's your money you're spending so i. Prefer not to claim the horse that I hadn't seen, but we also have horses come in from all over the racetrack. So literally, when forces in a claiming race.

"On Sunday rather than the only does that if she catches a flyer and go my assumption it's GonNa be that they're gonNA ride. Carreira cat the way they wrote her in the Union Avenue. I think we're going to take a whole. Try to make the one run off of minute to start them. I'M GONNA WANNA make cold three to come dancing over Carreira cat and Hopman at the start. I'm has a little trouble handling that extra sixteenth of a mile. I don't know where she's been since that honorable miss. It's almost two months wants now. She passed on the Ballerina you know was she duck income dancing in the Ballerina while she was documentary Ballerina. She's GonNa have a hands full on Sunday in the gallon bloom home. I'll make a colt free to come dancing Carreira cat. It goes as race number three early on the cart and this part of that early pick five. It's almost an early pick for now. Come dancing should stroll or waltz if you will in the gallant bloom couple of state red turf races race. It's number seven goes to the Ashley t Cole Mylan Eight Hundred Twenty five thousand on the line for the colts and geldings lot of these are already stakes winners Red Nights. It's an open stakes winner. He took the challenger Gulfstream Park. Dot Matrix took the warriors veterans at Indiana Grant Against Open Company of course Rudin songs grade one winner therapist won the elusive quality offering plan is beaten open company but as a multiple New York bred stakes winner and then and of course you've got my boy Gucci Factor. He's on a three race win streak. He won the poker when last seen back on Father's day and you took five of his last six I mean Clermont has done a fantastic fantastic job. Getting this horse through the allowance condition ranks and into the great at stake. Frank's got his nose down last time in the poker back in June for for six over the turf course as soon as I there are a lot of ways to go in here. tried to look at the speed angle here you know Voodoo Song is quick but you know he's a shade of what he what he was last year and even before therapist is a nice I ended up going with offering plant though he's over three lifetime at nine furlongs I think he's crying out to go a little bit longer than the Mile Mama Sixteenth and he has he's still in good form won the West Point Saratoga last time over a course with some give to it doesn't us minute by a firm course either. I think he'll be running late of CASTELLANO fines some room for him. I can get I think he can get through and and run them down. This was a very very strange renewal of this race last year which offered when and Gucci factor ran to three they weren't separated by much either just a half length black tide. I'd gotten a loose lead like he always did kind of like Ronald the down on the tournament and re broke when they came off the off the turn and was able to hold on the huge price there to me I- Gucci factor on top of a big fan of the source. I felt like offering kind of lost the step two now at the age of seven. He made up a ton of ground last time. I think it's a little different now. He beat dot Matrix and therapists that punch less time and then Gucci fact is better than them and I. I think we beat them. In the Kingston I think when she was a little bit better Christoph Clermont made it as businesses they look source doesn't love Saratoga and dirt races but he got beat fifteen gene lenzi twelve one Saratoga source was not a fan of Saratoga. He kept Gucci fact that out of Saratoga in down here at Belmont and I think it's racist like this and then whatever the name of the recoup the name of the race they run on on New York Bred Day the Mohawk leading you know these are the plan was this in the Mohawk Gucci factor for me over offering plan it goes race number seven the Ashley t Cole the Phillies take the stage and reese number nine the John Hatton again on eighth again one hundred twenty five thousand on the line and Chad Brown and good ole fifty five seemed to have just one go through them. Maybe not bang-up fourth being just the half-life from the Walston smallest. I now address outside here I don't think it's going to make a difference. you know I think she's the class of the field coach. He's leaving. A great company just missed by half length of significant form last time she's five for nine over the Belmont turf nine twenty on turf overall I'm not going to try and beat her. I think has Delana wins. Both of these turf stakes races yeah I know she's an Chad Brown as well. I know she's run well at aqueduct and Saratoga in the past what she's just better on the courses here on park. That's that's quite frankly it we'll try for another cold number and here my girl Christie's on the inside. Hi Kristie hasn't had the best of it. the last couple of times. She ran in fact three of her last four starts. She's found some trouble late in a game that one reason between what she didn't didn't call me Kayla. I've got to go fifty and one of the half I mean you've been on call Michaela Day. She just walk the dog now. The Mile Eighth should help you know you got Red Zinger in here to to to show some speed bell the SPAS GONNA try to go wire-to-wire as well. I think it sets up for fifty five and end Chrissy cold number fifty five over crazy for me and so we'll wrap it up racing on that Sunday. It's John had major all twelve in the books time now now for the naira bets best bet. This is the naira beds best bat we got. I am going to go with the race that we're going to cover the Charlestown rich eleven at Charlestown. I'M GONNA go with the number five newly minted for Derives Linda Rice and rather juniors climate board for the first time in the mountaineer evening right near State West Virginia isn't it it is Yup. No of of course at Charlestown races part of Racer Urbani always look forward to that. I'm coming right back here to beautiful Mama Park to Kelso my boy planes man. I'm I'm sticking to my guns. "I mean this. Is this your approach approach. In general I mean that's that's how you succeed. Playing the game is being studious and thorough and tireless. I mean it if people people think oh you know you can't win you can win you win all the time but you know there. It's eight awards seven steps back nine steps forward ten steps back but then thirteen steps forward and only eight steps back at it. It's a matter too of it's so oh true what the experts say money management experts. It's the big scores that mitigate all the little defeats. You have to have a big score to really really mitigate all the little losses along the way <hes> so. There's a lot of ways they've got a big score. These days and you have to go for but the same time you have to realize that you're GONNA lose a lot to get there and you hear a lot of people say oh. I've been losing so I've stopped playing well then you need to do something jumped out managing your bankroll so you can play continuously. It's a merry go round and once you jump on you better. Stay on it otherwise you're GONNA lose opportunities. You have to be consistent and that statement Brad I. I'M GONNA I'm GonNa Guess yes and suggest that you find the game as exciting and as rewarding as ever has been of course there's things about it that are not nearly as good as they were thirty or forty years ago but you can say that about so many aspects of life but there's also oh things about it that are better you could come to Mama Park in one thousand nine hundred seventy six and see really really good horses every single Saturday but you could only one daily double one tri factor no pick threes or pick four or pick fives or sixes or even super factors.

"One of the more prolific is mama parking. I guess that would make the most sense. But we'll see how that shakes out as well. I don't think anything anywhere anybody showed up at this point with surprise me. You know? And now, I'm sure it's unlike other still jockeying always wouldn't mind CNA full gate. So we'll we'll see what Russell's up over the next few days. But certainly like I said expec- compelling race. Didn't mention Owen Dale who actually member picking second in the risen star behind frolic more after they exited. What I thought could be a key allowance and he regained that in the Lexington. So definitely an interesting group. And I definitely think the derby Q his added to the allure mainstream wise, so we'll see what we'll see who shows up both in the gate and eyeballs on the TV screen, but I definitely expect even without the these, you know, to orces running I expect people it's a curiosity at that point. And hope. Racing. Could put it's best to forward and show. These people why they should keep tuning in. And not just for the big races gyms in New Jersey. Jim welcome to the Brazil dot com hall and Joe. Hello, Jim now, Big Mac and a fish fillet. Any preference by saying I was benefactor but the kill because I think you'd into the into the oaks derby double. Wasn't a big great. And then they kept saying how it was a maiden claimer in the Monday. They would have made a decision right away. Okay. So would have it. If you get a chance the first race at now here on Wednesday. There was incident where Mike worse cut over interfered to horses, and I was upset because it was gonna be a seventy seven dollar exact I was taking down and I was shocked, and they left them up. And it was just one of those things where I guess certain Stewart's have certain standards that they apply looking at set of circumstances. So that's why you know, I'm not disputing a foul. Incident happened not having out of the gate. Now now stretch if you get a chance I race Wednesday about here. It was really surprising. How how much interference was in lift them up? Then I guess they felt that the horse interfered with had already made his run in was not going to go by. But it's after I watched the derby. I truly fully understand why because of the safety part of it. But I was a little bit upset because the students didn't press the inquiry button in a head away for a chock to make an objection, but you know, less than perfect system. Yes. And thanks for the call. Jim, ed. Yeah. The one the one thing definitely heard a lot about if this. You know, we're any other race X day..

"And in the game's history. This was a very gratifying set of results after some uncertainty, but the legislature both houses came through the governor was behind it as well. And might not just might it almost certainly will get the breeding program back moving in the right direction. Bring some Maier's New Jersey. Yeah. Absolutely. I think the biggest thing that's the most important thing that, you know, maybe some people do know some people don't as mama's park is in a very unique position where we're, you know, we're run by horsemen, you know, the New Jersey urban horsemen's association group, you know, Lisa's, mama park. They are the ones in charge every single day. So whether it's this per subsidy or spoke. Betting or anything like, you know, the the only thing that's on our r you know, boards mind than our executives mind is how is this going to enhance horse racing? You know, there's no thought whatsoever of let's use some of this money and stick it in our pocket and call it a day that that's not even a possibility. You know, we're we're run by horsemen. So the whole reason behind getting sports betting is to use that to help horse racing. You know, obviously, that's why dentistry works hard to get not only sports betting but the subsidies, so that horse racing could get better. So the decision that's will be made will be the best decision for the sport of horse racing. Which is which is exciting for me who obviously is a huge fan of of racing and should be for the whole industry and talk about the the background and how you came to the game and your your stops along the way because you're you're one of these guys that much older than you look. And you you've looked like this for fifteen years. I've known you. Yeah. I it's a fun story. I like telling it. Yeah. 'cause I so my my job. I'm now the head of marketing, mama park. So contests are part of that events are part of that, you know, everything. And and I I love that job. Because I do what I'm trying to do to other people. What happened to me? I literally started from nothing in terms of horse racing. I wasn't born into it. You know, the first time I went to the track. I read the form upside down. I bet a horse to you know, his his his rates. I thought the racist on the bottom where his most recent. So he started off his career with three straight wins. And then lost everything after thirty two one on the board. I'm like I. Because I thought you know, I thought he wanted to last three races. So that's where I started great. So when when people say, you know, you can't get new people into racing, and there's no way for young people. Like, it's just not true because I lived it. Yeah. You're not gonna be able to get everyone, obviously, just like any. But I truly went. They're betting names numbers, my favorite horse, the horse who got me into horse racing was Hans stuff. And then some she was like. I bet on them for the first time because he had a fun name. I didn't know anything about anything about him. But he had a fun name. And then slowly. But surely us the first source that went on my virtual stable, and I follow them. And he wanted twelve to one when I was a freshman in college and one more money than any freshman college had then, you know, I did three years, and he said Steve down and goal stream working in marketing there, and then Monmouth, you know, sign me up fulltime, which was good. So my last six college credits for new another part of the story. My last six college credits from Rutgers was interning at mom with park that you read the breeders go I've been there ever since I started in the horsemen bookkeeper office the year before the Breeders Cup the that office where the candy bowl is. So every executive stops there to pick up some. And that's how I met all the park. So the next year I need an internship. I call up the head of marketing, then Pete Verdy. I said, hey, remember, I gave you Eminem's last year. You know can return the favor and give me an internship..

"And they asked me to come in there. And that's a job that I've wanted since my idol was Trevor Denman, and I always wanted to succeed him in some way, if it would happen. But I thought that that was very impossible. Just because I figured Trevor would be calling raises way longer than I would. Anyway. Sure. So, but anyhow, I'm very grateful to the Stronach group for for wanting me, they're a lot of people have wondered, you know, why they are bringing me and this and that and the other, and I just think it's a matter of the management has choice of what they want. And it's just the way it is. This is what they wanted me. And I'm I'm grateful, and I'm very thankful to take the opportunity, and it's the ultimate destination for me. And it's something that look I give my heart and soul to. I don't care. What mood I'm in? What situation? I mean. I give my heart and soul every day at every racetrack. I've ever worked. I'm very thankful to all the people that have helped me throughout my career helpful to thankful to the California fares thankful to Oakland to Louisiana downs too. High Elliott ardine? Who let me call my first race at Hollywood park and all the other people in between. There are many of them. And of course, the New York Racing Association to come to look like anything when you're running a race and your mama th park, for example, you know, obviously, they'd be Oaklawn park. I would never have this job. If I had not called for four years at Oakland four, and I felt bad leaving Oaklawn, and I know that I fended them by leaving. And Toby Keith told me this Toby Keith actually reached out to me after I left. I was surprised I had met him. I met Toby Keith the night after that Arkansas derby, by the way, and we talked and he explained to me how he writes songs, and it was fascinating. And I had to do with a wheel and the smokes. But Toby Keith actually reached out to me when I didn't get the job at Santa Anita. And he said Frank let me just say this to you. You don't leave a job for an audition? You leave a job for a job? And it's something that has resonated in my mind many times, but there is no price on your dream. You have to go after what you want in this world, and I had to do it. And I don't regret having. Done it. But I felt bad that Oaklawn felt betrayed by me leaving. And in the end, I didn't get the job that I was going for and I feel bad, but I believe in my heart. I would never have gotten this into this position because you have to it's like anything in order for American pharaoh to win the triple crown he had to go and win the Arkansas derby through Oaklawn Oakland, offer some of the best racing in the world. And it's even getting better now. And so they were good to me and they treated me. Well, and and I gave them everything. I had let me tell you this. I'm a big boy, you would think that I'd be a guy that would have high blood pressure. I never had high blood pressure in my life until I worked at Oakland. It's a high stress position there because it's not only the calling of races. It's the community activities the rotary clubs this that and big fields lot of you know, intensity. But it was very good for me. And it was a very fun for for C four year run over there, and mama park has been great to me. Everything's worked out. It's just like this is a dream. Come true, you know, very rarely in life. Do you? Get your dream come true. But this is happening. And and you know, when that press release went out at it was extremely gratifying. And I, and I really appreciate the quotes that I saw from timid VO in there because if you wanna make an over under on the number of minutes, Tim read VO, and I have either spoken or seen each other. You could take the unders we have not spent much time together..

"It's a funny thing I rode killed. So they like lady up for the winter. They brought him back and I wrote him over mama park on three quarters of a mile when he was about six five or six about six years old. So and he finished second second third. I forgot I guess they didn't like the way a road even they they took me up, and and they put shoemaker on him and shoemaker didn't like him. He was he wasn't whose type or to ride. He's kind. Of course, you had to kind of keep riding all the way, you know. And they they they put Donald pair, sewn, and then they took them off. And they put my little Valance oil, and he wrote him out the rest of his career. And then the last time we have run was highly going three cores a mile, and he he was just. Ol- stoved up. You know, how the old days you'll get yourself? Right. He finished in the middle of pack. But that was the end of him. What was your opinion of him? I guess as you mentioned he wasn't at his best that raise you had to ride him the whole way. But. He was a great horsey uh. He was probably the best long distance source. That I'd seen up to that time. Could run a mile two miles. And get some fair along zone. Great harsh. Besides horses. We've already mentioned the great horse as middle ground amber on blueprints and Kelso, Bo purple and Calcio what if a highlight reel of your life. What would that entail? The great moments the great horses. Anyone else on that list on that list? Well, secretary was great. I'd love to wrote him. You personally road. Oh that I personally road. Well, I I wrote a horse cohi- gun that beat the best horses New York best older horse three and older horses to ride him one time and a way one the citation be dome on. And the broke down ration- eight never right again. But he was a good order. And also wrote assault the last time he read. How about sword? Dean. Nice sources broke his maiden at Saratoga. And then I didn't ride him again until three year old at the derby shoemaker had to call on anybody giving a call away and he couldn't ride him. But I think it was set that. If I wrote him at a derby that that would get him in the Preakness the rest of the year, he was very close with the birches. Who own do? Trained sword dancer. I'm guessing you weren't. Hi on Bill shoemaker after that Kentucky Derby. Do what I guess that can derby Bill shoemaker wasn't your favorite person. After that Kentucky, Derby you. No that..

"And so on always I'm always curious to that because I always want Blaby where like me, but I feel like I'm always trying too hard and asked if it out there like we get it, we got it. You still saying the n. word we get it, but sweet. Go back to the BuzzFeed article came out. And did you say your parents? Well, yeah, it's a page article and a paragraph of it. The guy says, I say, my stepdad's an asshole, an asshole, and. I didn't really get into it, but that's, that's that was the first time I think somebody had let the cat out the bag. Like you spoke against rod and you got to, you know, my mom said she, my mom's talking to me and what happened was she came home and my run brother, the died. He was the one that was still talking to me. He's like, we're good. You know, we're, we're got us at the bullshit. We're good and my other brother ones imprison. Now he came at me like how dare you, you embarrassed mom in this family and everything and mama park, right in your that was imprisoned embarrassed. The family -ployed. Yeah, you know. And then he said, my momma guest came home and said, I can't believe I gave birth of this monster out me and said, I want all his pictures taken down in the house, and he is. He's dead to me too. That's redneck elegy right there. Right. Because that's my what happened to my wife, my wife, her family across her mom crossed her mom and her mom burned childhood pictures. We know what it comes from. Where's your from Georgia? That border of Alabama, that mentality is. You know. Would it stays what happens in a house as in house and you're not allowed to talk about it anybody. And if you do your ostracized from the family regardless of right or wrong, and they come up with this alternative reality that they're like, no, no, it's it's goes the whole blood thicker than water family over everything that's no, you have crazy family members and you got to ways to deal with it. You can talk about it. Go to therapy, get help and open lines of communication, and emit you weren't perfect and work on it, or you can just stay in denial and be like, no, you're not gonna speak on him and then you're exiled from the and that's what happened. I mean, that's where it came from. You know what I mean is I one pair governor BuzzFeed article and that was it. And then my brother dies. And when he died according real, yeah. My mom finally called me and talked about a year. She calls me and then you try to make up try, but it still. Was it was it was there. You know what I mean? And what happened was there was a custody about from my, my brother's daughter and the guardian. It light him who was in charge of the daughter. You know what that means. The courts assign a lady who's impartial. She is her job is a figure out baby mama, or my mom and step day, get the baby. So she's impartial and she called me. She goes, she sent me a Facebook message. She's I know this sounds weird, but I'm actually in charge of this custody battle that I don't know is going on and she goes, I just found, are you Dallas Randall's brother because we had different last names and I miss Bassett. Yes, she goes, is it puzzle for us to meet for coffee or at a public place? I know idea. You're related to him so meet with her and she basically says, cuss about on, I didn't. There's no pitch in the house. I've been at your mom's house like fifteen times. And the only thing she ever said is my oldest son left home when he was seventeen. That's all she brought up and she goes, I'm not comfortable with either household getting this baby. She goes. So I think I might recommend an emergency removal. If that happens. She goes into foster care and I that can't happen. I'll take her if that's what you. I talked my wife. Yeah, we'll take her. So we go to target and get a car seat. We're getting our house ready because we think they're going to remove the judge, said babies on any physical danger. She's she's going to stay where she's at, but my mom and stepdad saw my name signed..
