"More weakness on the domestic front, a lot more weakness on the consumer front in the UK at the moment. And he certainly one of the reasons why at the moment in UK markets, I'm really quite positive on large cap UK equities, but that's not the economy. I would be much more cautious towards mid and small caps in the UK at the moment. We've got a big focus on tech this week and next, a lot of tech names reporting, the dominant theme last year, of course, was around the fed tightening cycle and that was really in the driving seat for tech stocks. Now we're going to see a lot where we've seen a lot of cost cutting stories, haven't we the job losses to the fore, Ben, what do you expect to hear from the tech sector or what's going to be your focus? I think the Texas are probably going to see more consolidation on the jobs front. So going forward. And I think there will be a lot of comments around that about where there's overextended themselves and starting to rain back in those own reports going forward. I think if you put in aggregate though, the really interesting thing is that if you start to tot up the job losses that we've seen in this era, it really does very, very little to offset all of the job gains that you've seen over the last 18 months, two years or so. So I think some of those numbers headline look quite large, but actually if you put them in his strong context, it's not massive at the moment. And certainly a lot of the large mega tech companies, they are still very strong cash generators. I don't think we're going to see enormous earnings downturns from those kinds of areas. So I quite like some of those quality names within the tech space, those areas that are still generating very strong cash flow. So that can sort of adjust their workforce accordingly. I think still some of that sort of zero tech, some of that more that UNICEF USA dot org slash we won't stop. I think still some of that sort of zero tech some of that really sort of growth the end of the spectrum right at the other index. There I still probably see there's some weakness that I wouldn't be jumping in. But I wouldn't completely avoid the tech sector entirely. And I think maybe it's time to start thinking about the semiconductor space once again where you have seen fairly significant de rating, but again, very good quality companies and a lot of cases still paying reasonable dividends at the moment as well. "To your wallet plus bad things are going to happen. Don't we price in the events? I mean, we're talking to Matt malley and Miller Tay back and he said we need to go down to 15 times forward earnings before we can see an end to the bear market. That historically what happens in a recession then turned back around. On the other hand, Catherine Rooney Vera said, you know, maybe the market has seen past that and has already pricing in the recovery. Can you just skip past pricing in a recession if you're that confident that a recovery comes on the other side? You know, everybody is so focused on the here now this moment. We sort of lose contact of the bigger picture. We've discussed the concept of mean reversion before. Let me just remind everybody from 2010 to the end of last year, Marcus had gained 1314% a year that's nearly double historical averages. So while we're all coming up with these wonderful narratives, explaining what's going to happen, I'm comfortable with the concept that you can't grow a double market rates for much more than a decade before there's a little bit of mean reversion. So is it the fed? Is it earnings? Is it inflation? Maybe, or maybe this market just ran too far too fast on fiscal stimulus on zero rates. And hey, now we're kind of resetting, it does look like the markets have priced in a mild recession. Hey, down 20%. That's a mild recession. I don't know if the markets have priced in anything more damaging or a hard landing. Well, if we could take one stock as an example of what you're describing Barry. 2020 to 2021, Tesla was up about 58%. Hey, Elon Musk slapped a bunch of laptop batteries in a lotus, a little roadster, and essentially that was the birth of the new EV industry. And for a decade, they had that industry to themselves. Now, 1.2 trillion is ridiculous, competition is coming for Mercedes BMW, Hyundai, go down the whole list of all the hot new EVs that are out. That's before we even get to startups like rivian and lucid. And so competition starts to take some wind out of their sales. The wild price competition suddenly, they're not dominant market share as far as the eyes can see. And that was very ritual. "And, you know, I keep looking for definitive trendlines when it comes to inflation. And I think a lot of folks have said it's going to take a while for it to start to come down. And then I do wonder that once it does start to, does that trendline go down, rapidly? And what I'm sort of wondering about and when you think about the shape of inflation, do we plateau for a while? I mean a 9% handle feels really dramatic. I feel like we are, right? Yeah. Perhaps we are. I guess we'll know much more in about two days time, but yeah, what that trendline looks like, the rate of change you could say, these inflation readings. And I mean, when you think about the year over year prints, at some point, you base effects kick in, I don't know. Yeah, it's a really good point. And then we have to remember that what the fed does. There's a lag time in terms of its impact on the economy. And I have to say when the job print, I was on vacation, I didn't step away. I had family members like, mass are Carol. Did you see? Yeah. How about my siblings? Did you see that hot jobs? And did you? I did. I went and read it and I wanted to find out. And I was like, wow, I couldn't believe how strong I had a tune in at 2 p.m.. He has to say. I didn't tune in to hear what my kid had to say, but I did read the right through. But it was so strong. And I'm glad you weren't listening, but we were sort of asking the question. Was there anything that was bad? You could say the laboratory. Maybe that's something to quibble with. But across the board, man, it was just a knockout. And this is why those weekly unemployment claims become important because we'll get it kind of an almost in real time, right? What's going on in the labor economy? More than a little bit of a wasted occasion is how special envoy Robert Maui is describing the recent indirect negotiations in Doha. Speaking with national public radio malley says Iran rejected, quote, very detailed outlines of an arrangement the U.S. was willing to accept to revive the 2015 accord. President Biden's been trying for more than a year to restore the Iran nuclear deal since then president Trump pulled the U.S. out in 2018. Biden has maintained sanctions since then while Iran has ramped up nuclear activity. Now, special envoy says the party that hasn't said yes to a deal. Is Iran. "Andrew we got. I mean, there is this negotiation that's happening. I mean, we touched on it before, but there is basically Robert malley, who is the U.S. special envoy to Iran, is currently in Vienna, and apparently the negotiation is going so poorly about the. So he negotiated the JCPOA in 2015. So he is the guy that basically was responsible for the document that Trump came in ripped up and got the United States out of the Iran nuclear deal, right? It was an unbelievably bad dude. Yeah, it was an unbelievably bad deal. Well, guess what? He's at it again. So when we talk about our elites failing us, when we talk about how America deserves better, at least, at least we like to think we deserve better elites. He's at it again and he's in Vienna and basically there's a substack from Melanie Phillips. She published it 21 hours ago. She basically says that it's going so poorly that she was, you know, she felt obligated to write this and that she had permission from some people on the ground. This is all happening while we're worried about Putin launching nuclear weapons. Like, oh, let's go give another authoritarian nuclear weapons in the Middle East. Yeah. And so she highlights a Twitter thread from Gabrielle norona that says one, my former career at the State Department NSC and EU colleagues are so concerned with the concessions being made by rob malley in Vienna that they've allowed me to publish some details of the coming deal in hopes that Congress will act to stop capitulation. What's happening in Vienna is a total disaster, one warned, the entire negotiations have been filtered and essentially run by Russian diplomat, Mikhail ulyanov, the concessions and other misguided policies have led three members of the U.S. negotiating team to leave. They're basically stripping away different sanctions of all of these leaders within Iran, including the Iranian military that has murdered people all around the world, apparently, according to this thread, we're about to be not only in a geopolitical cluster in eastern Ukraine and Russia, but we're also going to have Taiwan coming on board. Iran's President-Elect Says Talking About Missiles Is 'Off Limits'
"On Iran is getting ready for another round of indirect talks aimed at reviving the 2015 nuclear deal. But a newly elected president of Iran doesn't want to take on other issues The Americans are hoping to discuss. NPR's Michele Kelemen reports hardliner Ibrahim Breezy, will be sworn in as Iran's president in August, and he's already making clear that some topics are off limits like the country's missile program. But the Biden administration wants to talk about missiles and get a better nuclear deal with Iran. The first step is getting back into the one the Trump administration left. That job falls to US envoy Robert Malley. I don't think that this window is going to be open forever at some point will have to conclude that this is not succeeding, but we're not there yet. We still think that it's that it's possible. We still think that it's certainly in our interest. We think it's in Iran's interest to, but they'll have to make that decision for themselves. "Senate. Democratic leaders have reached an agreement over unemployment benefits with moderate democratic senator joe manchin ending a nine hour. Standoff threatened to derail action on president biden's covert relief bill. The agreement would extend the existing three hundred dollar weekly unemployment benefit through september the sixth and it offers tax forgiveness and to ten thousand two hundred dollars in unemployment benefits for those who make less than one hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year in a statement released tonight. Senator manchin said we have reached a compromise that enables the economy to rebound quickly while also protecting those receiving unemployment benefits from being hit with unexpected tax bills. We have linked arms with president biden said. The american public needs this relief and they needed soon. And we're gonna stay at our desks and tell sometime over the weekend. We send this bill back to a house for a quick vote so the president by to get it next week four unexpected. It's obvious why so. Many americans support this bill. It's not actually a partisan thing it's money that people need in their pockets. It is overwhelmingly popular amongst americans. It is even supported by the majority of republican voters. What's going on. what's what's the reason for. Fifty republicans not voting in favor of this and by the way. No republicans voted in favor of it in the house alley. My my gut is this. I think they've made a strategic decision and remember just replay. The tape back to the beginning of the obama biden administration. They just sort of decided no matter what. That is just chock full of of provisions that republicans have offered in past years. It's chock full of provisions that are desired by republican governors. And mayors as you point out it's full of provisions that are popular republican voters and when it's implemented it's gonna do enormous good for republicans and independents and democrats so they made a strategic decision. That and i can't put myself in their shoes about why they don't want to be four but will be able to bring the final bill out and show you. How much bipartisan Agreement there is this bill. So before we get to the stuff that you really want to talk about vaccinations, and maybe Cuomo, maybe de Blasio. It's been a couple of weeks. How is your life? Changed in the last couple of weeks. So what you were doing basically for the better part of nine years. Well, you know, I think it's still of, unfortunately, very polarizing cause we're at a crossroads in our nation right now, And there are people who want to preserve the American dream and preserve our freedoms and liberties like me. And then there are those who want to move us towards socialism. I think this is a real defining moment for the nation. It's sort of, you know, I used to go to Albany and fight with the Democrats there when they were not doing the right thing by my constituents. On hoping even though we're in the minority that, hoping that they would make some changes, which, in some cases they did, and we win small battles there. It's similar right now. Because the Democrats do control all levels on the federal level, right. They have the White House Now they have the Senate in the house. And so you know, our goal here is really to look where we can find common ground work together. There are areas like transit, for example, you know, overcoming this pandemic, accelerating vaccine distribution to those who want it. You know, those are areas where we Should be able to work together in a bipartisan fashion. But you know some of these policies I'm seeing coming out of the last whether it be you know, the destroying the Keystone Pipeline project, joining the Paris Accord, which just gives China and India an advantage. You know, we have to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and I'm all for energy efficiency, by the way, very environmental Supporter of the environment, But you know when we're reducing out, get your greenhouse gas emissions in China and India don't have to do anything until 2030. That's the problem and put, some said it's a disadvantage. I wanna work to restore American jobs, not lose those jobs. And I think that you know, we're starting to see with immigration policy. Some some things I don't like, either or, you know, lacking. They wanna like they want to destroy the president. Initiatives that have done a good job right addressing the crisis at the southern border on DSA Oh, you know when we have to push back when they're not doing the right thing by American you no doubt about it Well, said in a coma Congresswoman Nicola Malley attacking some proud to say, and also canceling female Scholastic Sports. Biden's America Last agenda is has just just been horrible, and it is it and what's so talk about warp speed. He had hidden waste any time. I've been working very diligently my first few weeks in Congress to try to address the issue of distribution, you know, number one getting the governor to add to the list of individuals who can qualify. So now you know the last couple of weeks, we added the 65 older class, which is a large population. On Ben, The NYPD are first responders. Now we have the essential workers have you know others who are important to our everyday life in New York, who were able to get this vaccination yet there weren't enough distribution sites in the none of supplies. So what do we do? We reach out to Mayor de Blasio's did add Distribution sites, and now we're working on that supply component. The president, you know, did authorize the Defense Production act which should be helping us with that supply. But still New York alone there seven million people who are eligible and yet, you know, getting doses of around 2 50 to 300,000 doses and we so there is a large demand. When you hear that terracing Guantanamo, we're going to get the vaccination. It's outrageous and and think about this to the average 9 11 responder and right quick recovery worker is probably about 58 years old now because there was 38 years old at the time, and, um Think about this. They are not eligible because they don't hit the 65 h, you know, Requirements set? Yes, they have underlying conditions, right? Yeah. A lot of those folks have actually died since then. That was not a one day event. Not even close to Colmar. Leo Takis Michael Goodwin. What a really good column again today in the New York Post. You know, Joe Biden throws this unity word around like it like it means something. It means nothing. He's done nothing to unify this country. In fact, he's done everything but the first couple of weeks and office. I know you guys had a plan of about a little less than a trillion dollars stimulus package. You guys put forth their plan the left they want to spend about $2. Trillion. Goodwin's point is apartment listening to some GOP leaders like you come to some type of compromise. That would go a long way in unifying the country. The stimulus package. What your thoughts on that Well, he's doing exactly what we believe He shouldn't be doing and that is allowing the radical left to take control of the agenda. You know, right now at the margins are so close in both this And in the house, so there's no reason for him to be just going along with what people like Alexandra Cozzi, Cortez and Bernie Sanders wants he could and should work with a bipartisan group because the margin is small enough where you can get things passed with. You can afford to lose some of the squad votes and pick up some Republican votes. Um, and that the issue is that there's already $1 trillion out there that is unspent from the last stimulus package or the last few combined. Remember the last stimulus package was just passed about a month ago. And so the money hasn't even gone out yet And already they're looking to spend another $1.9 trillion at a time when we're approaching a $30 trillion debt in this country. And so you know, this is something of concern and look, I'm supportive. Obviously, I want to see more relief going. The dollar is going to our communities, but there has to be targeted.
