Browns vs Chargers: Final Injury Report Full of Concerns for Cleveland
"We're still looking at Wednesday's injury report, but for the Chargers, everybody's getting a little practice, and there's no D and ds. Anybody that's not practicing is on IR. Right. Those are the only guys that are not practicing, but knock on wood doesn't this feel weird? It feels good. It feels really weird because when you look at the Cleveland Browns, there's a slew of dudes of DNP. There's a lot. There is a lot of 15 or 17 something crazy. There's a lot of people on this list. Yeah, in years past, this would be flipped. We would be the one with the scroll of players that are not practicing and the other team had like a handful. Not this year, folks this year, we've only got one two and three, four, 5, 6. People on the list and everybody's practicing. Yeah, three of them are limited, but they only guide on their list that's like come on dude is Chris Harris. You know, like, you asked the point or else they would have put them on IR. He had to be so close to being able to play. He has to be back this week. Coach coach talked about him last during his most recent press conference and he said that, you know, he practiced in pads last week. There are really wanting these guys to get healthy and stay healthy. Right. It feels like he's probably going to play this week. He got in limited, but, you know, Justin Jackson Derwin and Chris Harris are limited. So everyone else is full. So that's pretty crazy. Yeah. And yeah, and it's crazy because the browns have an extra day rest too, 'cause they put Sunday, we play Monday. Their list is huge, man. It's crazy because a lot of these are like, they're just not practicing. Coach is just like not injury related. They're just resting. Two of the guys. Run them up. Run them off. Run them off, dog. Let's see. So we've got Odell Beckham junior. He's practicing in full davin Clowney. He's he didn't practice, which is, I mean, that's a big name. Wow. Garrett didn't practice Troy hill, Malik Jackson. There's a lot of guys on this list that starters that didn't

But he took the name he runs. He does it all. he's that guy. Very impressive on may number three would should be number two only becoming. It's a debate. it's a debate. It could go a lot of different ways. But as the cleveland browns man. Hold cleveland browns. They have come so far remember when they couldn't win a game. Ninety have baker mayfield eighty five point seven niche of eight point three cream hood. Seventy four point four odeal bickham junior seventy five point. Three jarvis landry eighty four point. Seven rashad Three point four bro. The best offensive line right. Tackle jake Conkland with eighty four right guard. Why taylor what ninety two point three sinner. jc cheddar with eighty one. Joel benito at eighty five and left tackle Judge eric willis would sixty two best the line by far. Everybody knows it already. Now with the pro football fuller's rating even shows even more like do their number one in blocking for running and passing. Esus crazy okay. Moving onto desirable devdas rely incorporates miles gear with eighty six point five which again despite nagy's he should have released at ninety. That's wrong david. Clinton has a seventy four point nine. That's another reason why should be david. Klein is there kamanga. Maliki jackson sixty four point seven sixty nine point. Three coming from andrew billings. that's their lineup. But at linebacker the coming in with the rookie jeremiah. Awa- su Komala would have seventy nine point seven as good look there. And then they're db's quarterbacks in safeties in order dinsdale war would seventy point five grid newsome the second would say nine point eight choi here with a six point. Nine john johnson. The third eighty five point. Three ronnie here is during your seventy six point six in the rookie that opted out last year but is here to start for them. Possibly a safety grant delete as sixty six point three. I look man. I just i guess the only reason they are not in the top two because they didn't go to super bowl but they didn't have all that so it makes sense. 'cause the top two are two guys that want to bowl and i mean i'll just spoil the number one because i won't i won't spoil it. I'll just go ahead and say number. Two kency cheese candidate cheese have obviously elite quarterback patrick mahomes and hang one point eight to have very very very very good receiver to rick hill at a four point five elite tied in tribes cozy ninety three point. Eight okay off. It's of line better now. Definitely better orlando brown helping him out with seventy seven point eight joe. Cooney her mouth. Seventy four point. Two razali eighty fifty nine point. Seven seventy one okay. Let me not disrespect meco hartman. Sixty eight point three. I think he should be in the seventies. At least though cloud which lil cloud at to seventy seven point two you goes at outsider ball. Criminals been doing stay. He's an elite de interior defensive lineman with his ninety point three. We'll deserve at thank every month. So reserved higher should be given to jarran reed though with fifty six point. Five and frank clark would or fifty four point three. Wow they dave in taco charleston. A fifty one point six. I guess they're saying these guys. Don't get back to the quarterback and he hitchens and willie gay Sin- forty nine sixty eight and then when you get to secondary you expect to see some high numbers at least from tire matthew as safety. But he's only having a sixty seven again. I don't know. I apologize to the public. Matcher whose job this was a dean gallagher. Snee- of back there were shaun. Fenton and daniel sourcing That's eight one. Thornhill on the did but yet these are the guys that make up a team that is known for winning and getting it done when it's time to get it done. Forget this brea guys. They get the games that they need to get to get it done. It made it to the super bowl. Okay because don't be surprised if you see them go all away to all right the making them move. We'll we'll see them. You know for years to come. As long as patrick mahomes back there twiddling his thumbs i guess right now obviously. The number one team is a team that wins the super bowl in does something that no other team does brings all of them back. Bring all the players office defense special teams back. It's unheard of my goodness how they get away with this. I'll tell you got elite. Tom brady with a ninety three point. Three okay the should be so a good coach elite receiver rating. But he doesn't because he definitely deserves it. In a mike evans would have seventy four point. Nine chris cowan has seventy six. Antonio brown has eighty two point two. She's i don't know how to do these numbers going. Based off of the last season. A grunk at seventy point nine. Oj howard fifty. Four point seven for the year before last offensive line is eighty four sixty seven sixty three eighty. Seventy two gets a different side of the ball. Which is what really helped win this championship for these guys. Well i of course debris fake but dominant sue coming back again. Sixty two point four rating of eighty nine point nine okay. Shack beard has a seventy four point seven. Jp sixty six point three in levante david coming in linebacker would have seventy eight point. Eight in in devon white forty eight point one again. now that i'm going away rains at this point But yeah just looking at. I'm sorry we just really got just voted rains at just at this point clearly after we made it number one. I now don't want to even talk about ratings anymore. Let's just look at the roster's man defensive side for the tampa. bay buccaneers. sue the berry pierre. Paul vaughan david devon white called. Davis are sean murphy. Antonio winfield enjoyed the whitehead very good cast of characters. Apparently you're lacking a little bit of running back you know. Linda for nate has always been cool but he hasn't been that guy's rate rated six point five but like i said with amazing but yeah that's a lot of man that's what it looks like. That's where they stand and that's my show lays german. I appreciate you guys tuning in. Thank you for taking time to listed. This one is lower than usual. I apologize so much information sony names. "He made for able to be calculable as part of the patriots day. I'm not sure if we should right because he wasn't even actually. He never coached for ballot. Check so i mean floor is right now. I'm still fairly young in his coaching career. But like he's kind of on the director where he could be. The star pupil like the star of the bill ballot coaching tree. He's very few missteps. I do wanna. I don't wanna like criticized the co offensive coordinator thing too much before we actually see it in practice but But yeah i'm a little worried that it's too many too many cooks That's totally fair. So in the afc north three teams sent out. No disrespect to the bengals but steelers. Ravens browns all playoff teams last year. All eleven wins are more lindsay. Those three teams is there any one of those three that you think are best positioned to really push the chiefs if they were to match up in the afc championship game okay. I don't think it's the steelers you know for like eliminating one. I think you take the steelers out out of that. Mix i mean. I still think there's lots like about their defense and they've really good offensive talent. But if we're talking if i'm looking at a lot of this through the lens of how explosive is your offense. How ready is your quarterback to get into a shootout type of situation. I just don't think that. Eighty seven year old ben rothlisberger in the version of him that we saw last year even when they were winning they rate no or whatever it was that they were at i. Just i don't think it's the steelers so for me. It's looking at the browns and the ravens. And i think they're kind of two different conversations. I think that the browns are more complete roster top to bottom. I think maybe they're they're floor. Might be a little bit higher. But maybe they're stealing is slightly lower. Because lamar jackson just gives the ravens the flight infinite ceiling when everything is working at gives you that factor that he could do anything in any game that just about that. The home is the other guy in the league but has that ability. So i love so much about the browns done. I love their running game. I love a lot of the defensive moves that paid. I think they've just made some really smart additions. Over this off season you know the the jonathan signing the i loved that was one of my favorite free agent moves and then something like the bargain moves that. They've made the maliki jackson even today. Vian clowney who he hasn't brought much but that's kind of a low risk like he doesn't have to go in there and be like the guy on their defensive line but maybe you can get from limited production out of him you know. I think they've made some some smart defensive additions to fix some of the holes that they had a. I just say that maybe they're ceiling slightly lower than the ravens. Just because give me lamar jackson over baker. And that's nothing to baker's not good browns fans don't get up and they were all there all over us after we did. Our future quarter had a couple of weeks ago. Because i think he was fifteenth in fifteen player dropped and that wasn't saying that we think is a bad player. Anything was exercise. We have to take into consideration who the player is what contract situation is going to be. Like what would you do with him for five years. And i think he's in a good situation very much better than the situations. He was ever in early in his career. And then i think i guess the other thing too is like they. We saw them play right. We saw the chiefs and the browns play in the postseason. And i don't remember being any point in that game where i really thought the browns were going to win that game. I thought the gap between those two teams is pretty significant. Even with patrick mahomes not. I mean that was the game where he got. He got hurt. Where yeah even there was a little bit that it was like well shoot from homes is out but even then it was kind of like the chiefs are the gap is still. The gap is still pretty large. There where i think if you you think about a ravens chiefs game and the playoff game if everything is working for the ravens. I think that could be really exciting. I mean we this time last year we just like all jazzed for every single ravens chiefs matchup for the next ten years and i don't i think even maybe lamar took a little bit step back last year which we should have all expected he wasn't gonna keep his twenty nineteen pace. That's just unfair for anybody to expect you know. I think i think he has that potential to make any game a really exciting close game. Yeah i agree. Mostly i would leave the steelers out. I think they got hit pretty hard. This offseason i think it would take a really dramatic improvement from ben rothlisberger to get the steelers back to where they were during the first half of twenty twenty and in the old you know the guy but he's not the guy who used to be maybe he will be. no stranger. things have happened. Tom brady just won. A super bowl but The plane a lot. Better than ben rothlisberger and tom brady massively or not massively. But significantly upgrade of the talent around him i mean he went to a much better team in the steelers. You know obviously depends on leaving. The steelers went from eighteen. That was pretty good. Talent around him last year but to a team that loss to their starting offensive linemen in pouncey and villain. The wave a team. That lost bud. Dupree that steven nelson that lost pieces on both sides of the football. That's not gonna be as impressive and baby takes a big leap forward. Stranger things have happened. I can't count on that happening with the browns. I think you brought up that playoff game. And i think that's the sort of the frustrating thing if you're a browns fan is that you know if you work in do it in a game where patrick mahomes get hurt. And he's out for the last quarter and a half. When are you going to do it. I mean that that was a brownstein that was down. Nineteen three at halftime. They don't a good job. You know keeping the chiefs touchdowns and field goals in the second. Half to kind of you know Help keep the browns in the game. And of course you got the pets down and then mom gets hurt handy thursday interception in the end zone and the browns did make a run legitimate possession. I believe in the fourth quarter with a chance to win that football game and then it stalled and they had to punt. But you know the chances that you're going to end up in a pile game against the chiefs. And patrick mahomes is not gonna be there for a chunk of the game so slick and you have to take advantage of that when you have the chance and the browns could not so to me regardless of what you think about baker you know the the baker was playing well very well in the second. Half of the on the postseason The problem necessarily in that game. But i just don't know if they have that next year. I think it's gonna you know i love. I love the move. They made this off season. But i just don't know if they have that maybe they do. You know i. Obviously when they beat the steelers in the wild card game they look great. But i'm just skeptical of that and with the ravens you know. It's only a three game sample so you don't want to rule anything out but it just feels like the ravens. Just do not have the answers for stopping the chiefs and has been just incredible the three times these these two teams have played. The mars actually been in all of the games. I believe he got hurt in the game where he was the he was a rookie. I think robert griffin came in navy for the For overtime in that game from that mistake market hurt in overtime And you know. I the ravens. Certainly.

I mean, you know, you look at his track record and how many times his weight went toe organization team. And real fast, dumb things. You know, I tell you, what type of teacher is our last segment with Wade Phillips. The book is called Son of Bomb Lessons. My dad taught me about football in life. Pick it up. Read it. It's a fun read. I'm gonna wrap it far since I got you on short notice. I'm in on the short schedule. No, you got to go off and do a book signing right now. A couple things I want to get to The moment you all came back the first and then the second time from losing in Pittsburgh and Bum, Phillips insisted all come to the Astrodome. And when you got there, 50,000 fans were waiting. Would that mean to you? It was really most. I still get chills from him. I mean, it's an emotional moment that Um, because it was so on unexpected. I mean, you know when you lose, and I mean you either win or lose in football, you know, there's no in between and Normally people you know if you lose, they're not on your side. If you win of if they are, and Especially that big game like that the championship game. Losing. It was just Seemed devastating at the time, but then you then you come back and all these people are on your side. I mean, they're all They all appreciate, you know, even in defeat. What? You what you accomplished and Uh, it was a great feeling. I was very young man who was 10 years old when, uh, when Bud Adams fired your dad and I ended up living six houses over from Bud Adams in my thirties and I bore I bore a hatred toward him from that you write in the book of that firing I stopped being bitter about it after a while. How long is after a while? Well, it went too long. Because my dad just I mean, he just went on. He said. Hey, you know what he told me and I'm kind of carried it with me is Hey, uh, you know, I worked every I worked every day. It's hard that could for, uh, for that person. And they paid me every day for my work and that you know, and he's so that's the bottom line. You know, they've got the right is 13. If they want to change, they change, you know, so And And like, like you said, you know, two kinds of coaches. Well, I didn't think I was gonna be one because I thought I thought I was doing a heck of a job of coaching. Then we got fired. So, um, But there you just don't you, don't you? Don't worry. You don't worry about what somebody else did especially After it's already done. But it wasn't handled right. Can we agree to that? Uh, well, I mean, you know, I don't know. I don't know if you find somebody, you fire somebody. I mean, it's uh Yeah, it could be better, Certainly. But, uh, you know, it's still done either way, but it didn't. It didn't bother me. I mean, it really didn't. He just felt like you did this because he could do And somebody said they You know you have to go somewhere else. There was then a move. Obviously, they replaced the head coach and they wanted to stick you to your contract and make you stay in coach and you say, Look, you didn't just fire My head coach. You fired my dad. You didn't want to stay talk about that. If you would Yeah, I mean, they came to us. First, they came to the assistant coaches. Part of it was a I don't know why, but I don't know a whole gist of it, but I know part of it was. Hey, we just need to get rid of bomb. We got great assistant coaches, you know? And so Uh so they come to all the assistant coaches and say, Hey, you know, we want you to stay. In fact, they offered me that the defensive coordinator job I was I was coaching the defensive line. Alford May the defensive coordinator job, you know, and I said not, You know, I'm not doing that, You know? And then they said, wait, and then they came back the next day and say Hey, You have to stay. You have a contract. You know you got another year left on his cot. Your contract? You can't go anywhere else. You know, You can't get a job anywhere else. If you leave here, you can't Can't work in the NFL. You know, Of course. You know what? Wait. You know everybody was really upset. Then it just doesn't seem like it's ah class move. There's reference in their toe. The playoff payouts. I'll let people read that for themselves. I think people will learn a lot about what was going on at that time. But you you have an interesting line in here. That surprised me. You talk about when you all went to New Orleans and you said Our first year in New Orleans. We started four rookies on defense and finished 11th in the league and yards allowed. And then you say it was one of our greatest coaching jobs ever. Nobody spends much time on the New Orleans portion of the Phillips coaching career, but you seem very proud of it. Well, it was my first year of the coordinator and They were there. There were only 31 teams then and there..
