"Trey Murphy the third CJ McCollum and Willie hernan Gomez led the pelicans one 36 one O four assault on the kings. Murphy highlighted his season high 30 point performance with 6 three pointers, a couple well beyond the ark. Just glad my teammates found me. And I was able to knock down shots for him. McCollum had 24 points for New Orleans, which had 57% overall and hit 14 of 26 from long range. Hernan Gomez had 22 points and 16 rebounds in the pelican's second straight win since the ten game losing streak. Malik monk scored 16 for the kings, who lost their second straight game without the Aaron Fox. I'm Dave ferry.

"All right, my guy Malik is here. We're taping this. It is a Thursday afternoon. He just arrived in Detroit. The light that being kings won a big game in Toronto last night. I was watching. The road trip would not have been off to a good start with the third straight loss. I was starting to get a little worried, but you guys stepped up. Yeah, man. That was a big point. In the conversations, man, we can't. We can't lose three, three in a row, especially on the road trip, man. We can't lose three in a row, going to another tough spot here in Detroit too, man. They always play great at home. So we definitely had to get that one last night. Yeah, 'cause you guys were in this spot where I was starting to take you seriously as a playoff team, right? And then around the country, people were like, oh, this isn't like a cute thing. We're now past 25 games. The kings are good. Where are they? Could they be a top 6 team? And so then you go on this road trip. You kind of have to prove it. Teams are looking at a little differently. They're not thinking it's the same old Sacramento anymore. I'm Celtic fan. You guys have been my west coast team this year. Just watching on TV because for whatever reason, the pieces just fit. And it's just it's a team that makes sense. Everybody knows their roles already. I saw you guys in person when you played the clippers. When did you know something was happening here? Because you signed there this summer, but when did you see all the pieces? And we're like, oh shit, we might actually be pretty good. I've seen the pieces with me and KF signed, actually. I knew it would be a great mesh. As soon as me and Kev, signed having Fox and so bonus. And us to space on the forefront. So yeah, I knew early. Okay,

"But you have the Bengals in Tampa, laying three and a half. And that extra half point scares me. This game looks too obvious. That also scares me. I just want the Bengals to win. The Bengals are better than Tampa, Tampa is hot garbage. They're one 9 and one against the spread in the last 11 games. Game after the game, they fall, they fall behind and they either come back or they get blown out. I just don't think they're good. I think Tampa is a bad football theme. I think they're one of the 7 worst teams in the league. And I think Cincinnati is one of the best 5 or 6. So all I need Cincinnati was just win this game in Tampa because I am parlaying them with the Philadelphia Eagles. The best team in the league, a team that is going to go 16 and one, a team that is going to win Jalen hurts the MVP. They're in Chicago. They're 9 point favorites. We're just grabbing the money line, -400, putting that with the Bengals money line, which is around one 95. Putting that together minus one 14. We're betting $900,000 on that. Bengals and eagles both have to win. Those are three big bets. And we got two underdog parley. Falcons mentioned them before. I wanted to save a little 50 K for the underdog parley. Put them with the Jaguars. Plus four and a half, you heard Ruiz and solak talk about before how great Trevor Lawrence has been. I know he's a little banged up, but he's going against Dallas, Dallas does not look that good in the last couple of weeks. Falcons Jags put them together that's plus 6 39. We're putting 50 K on that. And then last but not least, one of the dumbest and yet one of the most fun bets in the history of $1 million picks. There's a part that you could do on FanDuel, which we did last week. We won with San Francisco to win the first half against Tampa and then San Francisco to win the game. And that was around even us. It was plus one 15th. Great. This week, we're going to tackle the Washington giants game. This is really stupid. But it happened two weeks ago. We're going to bet on Washington and the giants to tie in the first half. They're going to tie the score might be three three. It might be 6 6, ten ten. They're going to tie. Nobody's going to have to do it in the first half. And then Washington is going to win the game. 16 one odds on FanDuel. Tie first half, Washington wins the second half. What is going to be more fun than rooting for a tie in this terrible sun and a game that's going to be three three at halftime and we'll be rooting for it. 16 to one odds, putting 50 K on that. And those are the $1 million picks. For week 15. All right, as promised, Malik monk in the trait. He's on a road trip and the kings were nice enough to let me grab some time with them. So

"Which we haven't talked since that happened. And that contract was a car crash as it was happening. And now it's like 17 times worse. And it just feels like everyone will be gone next year. It's like a complete complete reset button. It was interesting. Watching the game, when he got hurt, I didn't know if that was good or bad for the Pats, because I was so worried about him scrambling around, but on the other hand, I think they play better with McCoy, but McCoy turned out to be a good matchup for the pat's defense, but so he won't be back, that this is the worst possible timing for that injury, right? Even if he's coming back, it's like I'd say he comes back. Yeah, what does that do for them? Nothing. It hurts. The NFC west quarterback, you know, line up right now is Baker Mayfield as the fourth quarterback in LA, Gino Smith as a veteran who's won a few games this year. He's also a free agent. I actually think Gino comes back to Seattle. On a shorter deal, like on a trubisky ish deal, but I think they bring him back. But what if they get the third pick in the draft? They might have taken a second pick in the draft. I think he's still bring back Gino and then you say, okay, we don't have to throw this guy under center right away. But with Kyler, I mean he saw the unfortunate news. Their GM stepped away like yesterday. I think this is a brutal, this is like the nadir of Arizona Cardinals football. And there's been some really dark ears over the last two decades, but this is brutal. It's bleak. Did it pave the way now for Brady and cliff to have their reunion in New England with cliff as The O.C.? When we had that conversation, obviously people were chiming in on Twitter, but I get texts from around lakes. Someone was like, you guys didn't mention the Giants as a possibility. I said, oh, now listen, I was thinking jets and they're like, he would never do that to craft. He would never go into the vision and giants for one year. Oh, that's such a fucking pats fan. So we hate the Giants. I get it, but we didn't even talk about the Giants. Daniel Jones is a free agent. Does Brady consider that, and it's thinking one of these blue blood franchises, it's New York City just, you know, we're just doing this in December now, but Brady, I would tell you is probably not coming back to Tampa and New England did make a lot of sense, but I don't think the Giants is that crazy either. Brady's another one that if he doesn't have the offensive line, what are we doing? He just he can't move at all anymore. And they can't block for him. Tampa is one of the ones it's one of the most obvious picks of the year, the Bengals. They

"As always on Thursday. The take lord Steven Ruiz is here as well. I'd like the new nickname. Yeah, it was good. I just came up with it right now. You've been doing QB rankings for us every week on the ringer. And you're wrestling on a fellow show, a bunch of things. I want to talk about QBs. To start with. It's been a topsy, turvy year for a guy named tua. Who I think if you made the YouTube video of his throws to share that we're almost intercepted, how many how many throws would be on that clip? I take at least, I think it's getting close to 20. You said 20 earlier in the week, I don't think it's quite there yet because you missed like 18. It's definitely double digits at this point. What do you think bell against the Chargers? 18, Ben? Yeah. Let's see, we had at least four in the Steelers game. So if you just assume there's an average of two per game, yeah, we're looking at double digits. There was at least three in the first patch game. He's also like, I think he might lead the league in two defenders colliding into each other who both thought they were going to get the pick. Those ones, which that's a specialist. Kiwi, but on the other hand, he's thrown like 20 of the best deep balls and 30 yard passes of the year. So they're playing buffalo. Bad weather, 7 point dogs, and I don't know. Is it more likely Miami misses the playoffs or makes the playoffs at this point? Because you could make a case both ways. What do you think, Stephen? Well, I really think it comes down to how to adjust. I know a lot of the talk this week has been like, there's a blueprint out. There's a book out on this dolphins offense and how is Mike mcdaniel going to adjust. But I think this is a situation similar to the one in Los Angeles with McVeigh and Goff when golf got not golf when mcvay's system kind of got found out by the Patriots in that Super Bowl. Mcvay couldn't go to a plan B and it wasn't his fault. It was because his quarterback just wasn't capable of it. And Sunday Night, there were guys open. I don't put it on mcdaniel. Two it just wasn't processing. He wasn't going through his reads. He was locking onto his first read and whether he was open or not. He was throwing it. So I really think it comes down to and whether he is this quarterback that he was hyped up to be as this sharp processor, this accurate guy who could throw it into tight windows. We're starting to see that starting to see pushback against that. We're starting to see that to show up on film over the last two weeks. And I think it's because defenses are starting to figure him out and starting to figure out his pressure points and like what he doesn't like to see and the types of coverages he struggles with. So I really think it's on him. And if the answer is no, he can't adjust. I would not be surprised if they miss out on the playoffs. So unlike solax eagles where nobody can figure them out because it's such a juggernaut. They're just like, oh, you're gonna do this, watch this. We'll score 40 points this way. What do you think? Have you seen anything in the tape so luck with tua that you think that teams have stumbled on? Yeah, so the blueprint aspect of it is tricky, right? Like Steven said, is there a blueprint that mcdaniel has to respond to? Schematically, it's okay, two or three to the intermediate middle, the field more than any other quarterback in the league. He had a 50% more attempts than second place. He had missed a few games. They just hammered ten to 20 yards down the field between the numbers. So the 9 or sweep that away with Fred Warner, the Chargers took it away with bodies. They took it away with ski. They took away with the dropping safety and with thinking linebackers and just saying, we are going, they played their corners with inside leverage. We're like unbelievable, insane. You don't see this inside leverage. Daring order to throw a call outbreaking routes and then daring to it to throw them and just the offense was it was a Django piece in a tower, right? You pulled out that intermediate middle and there wasn't enough structure around for the offense to stay sustainable. So okay, there's your blueprint. Take away the middle of the field, run some press coverage. That'll help disrupt the timing. There you go. There are schematic solutions to that. They try to outbreakers, they're going to try to run the football more like those exist. The coaching job for mcdaniel is less about the schematic answers, and more about the individual player that tua is. Like, what his character is, what is confidence is. Because there are on the niners film and the Chargers film. A litany of open receivers. Available check downs. One on one matchups that should be taken, clean pockets that he escapes out of time that he doesn't buy. Tua is a snowball quarterback man. I mean, when he starts hitting throws, he's extremely confident he'll whistle something in there. When he starts missing, when this offense doesn't immediately catch fire in quarter one, he just gets really under confident, especially if you start hitting them. And you start accelerating that internal clock. I can't think of another quarterback in the league who has such a precipitous drop off. Once you start getting hit and start struggling like two it does. And so for mcdaniel, the coaching challenge isn't so much about the ski aspect of it, as is about managing the individual. This is a guy who has just been like fraught with like a very traumatic career in terms of the injuries and the ops and the downs and like all the visibility on him and in Miami and Brian Flores and everything that's going on with you have to manage individual. You have to find a way to get him confident, keep him confident, even when you have bumpy games to start. Mcdaniel said that at the beginning of the year, he said so much of his improvement was just like getting him confident. And I feel like he's lost that confidence. You can see it on film, you can see him not being confident in his reads the way he was. He's not getting rid of he's still getting rid of the ball quickly, but it's not as quickly and as confidently as it was over the first 13 weeks of the season. Ruiz, you had him ranked 16th in your latest QB rankings. You had a behind Derek Carr who I think has been pretty lousy this year. Compared to last year and beyond cousins, you haven't been on Kyler Murray, who's not even playing anymore. Yeah, I'm behind Watson. That's not kyla's fault though. Yeah, bench. Well, you haven't been on Watson. I haven't been impressed by. Lawrence, who's been up and down. Et cetera, et cetera. When you you've been pretty hard on two in these rankings, the two of fan base, they're a handful, they're probably the number one craziest affection for a player fan base that we have right now.

"Probably not going to see them play this year. Yeah. I think that's pretty fair. You know, it's the kind of thing where what you're talking about in terms of reincorporating them into the roster into the lineup. It's not just about those guys getting back on the floor and getting their legs under them. It's about the other guys and how they react to them. So it's an adjustment for Kawhi. It's an adjustment for Paul George, but the entire team has to adjust to their presence. And that's where you can see the clippers just say, you know what? We're not going to have time. And really, they shouldn't force anything, especially health wise. I think this team is set up for the future. So I don't think they have to rush anything right now. Exactly. Yeah, there's absolutely no reason. All right, let's jump to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Brooklyn Nets Ben Simmons, this whole situation. Ron garman did a great video for us earlier today about what's going on here because this is fascinating. It's just what I think this whole Ben Simmons thing is done. And we're like, okay, that the trade happened. Here we go again. I mean, I suppose legal experts probably saw this coming. People who were expecting him to file an agreement saw this coming. I didn't see this coming. I had it from my perspective. I did not see this coming that. The grievance thing, okay, I could see where Ben Simmons would try to get the money back, but this whole plot that Kyle neubeck wrote about that Simmons is because we talked about this. Why would he go to Philly if he's not playing why bring him? Why go through all of that hassle that the plan is for him to go so that when the crowd goes Berserk and gets upset with him, when he files a grievance, he can say, see, look, this is a work environment that I could have never possibly been in. Therefore, it was impossible for me to complete my job. Therefore, I'm owed the money that was fine during the season for me not playing for the 76ers. This is next level stuff and this is a twist that I was not I didn't see this coming Keith. Maybe I should have, but I didn't. Yeah, I mean, I'm still at this point nothing surprises me with this whole situation anymore. And you know, anybody who thought that the trade has been made, it's over. Like, you know, we got a long way to go before this one's going to be resolved because what this will turn into is you were talking $20 million, right? So it's not a small sum of money, even when you've got a 100 million Simmons does, you're not talking a tiny bit. So I think going to happen here is we're going to end up with this will drag out over probably the next 6 months to a year as they'll be all everybody will file their grievances and they'll be all the necessary research phases that go in everything, then they'll be hearings and everything else. What I hope does not happen is that this becomes something that takes Ben Simmons away from the floor at all for Brooklyn because strictly basketball wise, I'm beyond or I need to move on. Like let's go, let's just get this thing moving. But we're going to see where this goes, because yeah, no one's no one is forfeiting $20 million without a fight. It's just, you know, that's not how that works. You're going to put up that fight for it. So it as far as I'm going today. Yeah, I wasn't necessarily expecting that to be the reasoning. But it makes some sense, right? If you think about it, and what they can always do is, if it gets to be too crazy, just leaves, it goes back and sits in the locker room and hangs out there until, you know, the game ends, and then he leaves with his team. So let's see where this goes. My hope is we get past tomorrow. No major thing. You want a boo, you want to kind of what we talked about yesterday right over on Lakers nation about Russell Westbrook. You want to boo you want to yell stuff just keep it above the line and you're fine. Do what you need to do. And then let's move, move on from this and hopefully we see Simmons on the floor in the next 5 to ten days. And off we go. Reading between the lines, this is coming out ahead of time, right? There's probably a reason for that. That's probably the Philly side letting everybody know. This is what he's trying to pull here. Everybody pay attention. What's going on? Do we get some tribute video or something for Ben for a bit image from the 76ers tomorrow? Yeah. I mean, guys who played for teams for like, right? Now. So yeah, we're going to see, I mean, Doc Rivers very, I believe, genuinely, when he said it was like, yeah, I think he does deserve a tribute video. Like he was part of a lot of winning here and some pretty good teams. So yeah, I mean, it's not going to go well if there is one. I mean, that's certainly, you know, I don't think he necessary wants one. Either, I think, if anything, that might be one where you let's hold it in reserve if we need to get the crowd fired up tomorrow night and then we'll play it and get to get them riled up and going. Maybe that's when you drop it in there but yeah, it's just a messy for sure, I think. Hold off on calling Skyler gray. That's not necessarily at this point. We don't need to do that. All right, the warriors, they are working out Tyreke Evans, who already had a workout with the Milwaukee Bucks, trying to work his way back into the NBA, but keep this. This is not easy. I mean, he's been away from the game for three years now. That's a challenge, right? Getting back into the league after being gone for that long, even if you're out for a year, that's not easy to do. I mean, in any sport. And if you're gone from the sport for any length of time, it can be difficult to get back up to speed, particularly when age starts to become a factor here. So I don't know. I don't really see tyrique Evans doesn't necessarily a fit with what the warriors are trying to do, but it's noteworthy that this is a guy who at one point was pretty good in this league. And now he's going around trying to find a new landing spot, the warriors are a team that was at least willing to take a look. Yeah, I think, you know, warriors taking a look at the bucks already worked them out. Recently as well. Not only been out for three years, he's 32. He wasn't really good his last season. In the NBA with the pacers now, maybe that was influenced by, you know, maybe some of the substance abuse that was going on that has kept him out on this suspension. We don't know that, so I don't want to say that's for sure, but maybe that is why his play dipped because it did fall off pretty steeply from the prior season. At a weird point, age 28 to 29 season that's not a point where you would really say, oh, what happened there if it's not injury related or something else? So yeah, I mean, I hope he makes it back. I hope he has his life in order and he makes it back and somebody gets it. The thing that we said this at the time that he was reinstated, if that had only happened a couple months earlier when we were having everybody under the sun was getting COVID call ups, it would have been huge for him, right? Because he might have been able to get one of those hardship ten days come in really show what he could do. He'll kind of like a Lance Stevenson did. And show you, hey, I can still play and then maybe earn his way back to the lead that way. My guess is this is a, hey, let's take a look. Let's see what it looks like. And then teams do, they kind of keep their emergency list just in case, you know, if something happens, he's a guy who's in a situation that he would be playoff eligible. If one of these teams needed Adam, but my guess is this will probably be, he may need to be one of the rare vets that takes the summer league invite from a team and goes to summer league. She was what he can do there, and then maybe gets a training camp invite, maybe. He has to do some G league time. Yo, Michael, that direction. Now it's getting a little late in the year to catch on with a G league team too. Now, because the G league sees it as almost over. It ends about a roughly two to four weeks before. The NBA regular season does. So that's probably why he hasn't gone that direction yet. But yeah, let's keep an eye on this one, but the other thing is the worries don't have a roster spot, and they don't have an easy way to create one. Either they would probably the only easy and I'm putting that in air quotes cut would be Damien Lee, and he's been a guy who's played real minutes for them and had played productive minutes at times for the warriors. So my guess is this was just, hey, let's do a check in and see where things are at. And then if we really have a need later, we'll maybe go down that path. One surprise me if he goes that summer league route. I mean, we saw Kenneth bury. He went to say it was Michael Beasley, too. Was the last time that was playing for the rockets. So maybe we see that. Maybe he.

"Back to the NBA front office show. Welcome in front officers. I thought I thought I'd give that one a try. Just try it on and see how it feels. We'll go from there. We'll figure it out at some point, but put up officers. I don't know, not terrible. Not terrible. Well, come in though. If you come in from YouTube, make sure you do subscribe right here to our YouTube channel. Don't forget to turn on those notifications as well. And I've been saying it at the end of the show. So I'm going to say to the beginning this time, go over to the podcast version as well over on Apple podcast Spotify wherever it is that you listen to podcasts, help us out. This really does help us. Thomas is a rating if you're on Spotify tosses a rating and review on Apple podcasts. Leave us a little comment. Tell us what nickname you like best for front office show, viewers or listeners, whatever it is, tell us something and put it in the review. We do appreciate it. It definitely does help us out. But anyway, all that aside, hold on, I gotta read this. Oh yes, yes. Because this one came in just this week. And let's do that. For a Lakers girl 24 for a name. Great name. Kobe fan. Best podcast around for news around the NBA. Keith is very knowledgeable about this stuff and has a great passion for the NBA. Trevor is a fun host that is great at navigating the direction of the show every day. Trevor is a Lakers fan, which makes the party even better. So I love that one, but yeah, we do these are huge when you especially when you do the written review and it helps us move up the list and get more people listen to the podcast version, which may bring them eventually over to the YouTube version of the show. So thank you guys so much for all the support. We love you. Absolutely. Absolutely. People have been calling us the best kept secret in NBA podcast. Let's get the word out. Let's get the word out. Yeah, tell everybody. Absolutely. Keith, let's start the show today with the Lakers because I'm biased. It just happens to be the top of you Lakers girl 24 forever it is just for you. Happens to be the top of my document here, but the Lakers. According to Dave McMahon talking with Adrian Murray, said that the Lakers are going to have a hard time reach signing Malik monk. Now this is not rocket science or anything. You know, he's grossly outperformed. Or greatly outperformed I should say his contract he's on a veteran minimum deal right now. He's been fantastic for the Lakers. And he's going to get a raise this off season. The Lakers don't have cap space. So trying to pay him is going to be tough when most likely they're going to be limited to that taxpayer mid level exception. Probably we'll get outbid for him, but we'll see what winds up happening there, but I think McMahon is right. It will be tough for them to bring him back. Yeah, it was already a surprise when he took the minimum anyway, because it was relatively early ish and free agency. We saw it a lot of teams with their taxpayer, at least the taxpayer, if not the full non taxpayer, MLE left. And I think there were still a couple teams with cap space left at the time. He signed on, but clearly I think his idea was. I'm going to sign on. I'm going to play a big role on a title contender, and then we'll parlay that into something else. But to your point, just not trying to be snide here. I promise. But they're already committed to a $145 million on next season's payroll. I'm projecting Kendrick nunn and Russell Westbrook, pick up their options. In that scenario, we know what work will. That's a certainty. None, just the more likely it looks like he doesn't play this season. The more likely I think, yeah, he's just going to say, I'll take my 5.25 million versus gambling on something else. This summer. So when you're at a 145 million, well, the tax line projects to be a 147 million. Now why Trevor saying there are limited to the taxpayer mid level. Yeah, you're under, but that's with a grand total of 5 players on the roster. And you know what? I'm actually wrong. They're at a 146.5 because I forgot to count in Austin Reeves. Who clearly they'll pick up 'cause he's a team. He's a bargain. Yeah, exactly. They'll make his deal fully guaranteed at 1.56 million. So they're right there at the tax line with 6 players on the roster. So clearly they're going to be well above the tax. Next season, which will limit them to be in the taxpayer MLE. And that's even though where that project sat at about 6.3 million. For next season, it's just not going to be enough. I don't think from weak monk. My guess is somebody may give him their full taxpayer. MLE, just because teams are always looking for shooting. And he's shown a little bit to do a little bit more as an on ball creator and things like that. So yeah, I mean, unless he really says, you know what? This is where I want to be and they want to invest that full taxpayer MLE and Malik monk, then maybe that's where he goes, but I don't know if that's the direction they're going to want to go either. He has expressed a lot of gratitude towards being in LA and the Lakers just believing him in him and giving him the opportunity to do some of the things that he wasn't able to do in Charlotte. And he's talked about how much he would love to stay long term. But again, money matters, money matters. And if some team comes along and offers what would it be? The full mid level will be right about 11 starting next season. Yeah, right in that range. Let me look, I'll tell you 10.264. So it's a little bit short there. Okay. Above 4 million. So I mean, and that's significant money. You're talking about almost double, right? In terms of what you're getting there. So I think that's absolutely going to be a factor for Malik monk. The only situation if you're a Lakers fan and you're hoping like, hey, maybe they can convince them to stay either you do some sort of wink wink thing. Hey, take our taxpayer mid level at just about 6. We'll do a one plus one and then we'll sign you once we can get some bird rights on you. Maybe you can do something like that. But again, that takes a lot of faith from the player and it's a risk in terms of injury and all of that. Or just that cap spaced right. There's not a lot of cap space out there this summer. But there's also not a lot of players that are worth spending cap space on, so like I said, big picture. It doesn't look great for the Lakers keeping Malik monk. Right now. Yep. All right, let's jump to the other LA team. The clippers. Apparently, if Kawhi Leonard and Paul George can not get back on the floor during the regular season, the clippers are that's it. They're done. The clippers aren't going to suddenly say, oh, well, okay, now you're healthy during round one of the playoffs. Here you go. And toss some toss them back in. They have to get back on the floor or the regular season, which I think all season we've been approaching this as though they're probably not going to be playing with Kauai anyway than after Paul George got hurt. We've been saying he probably doesn't come back. I think there is still a little bit of hope out there that maybe they can get back there, but now we know the deadline is the end of the regular season to get them back on the floor and then have them actually available in the playoffs. Yeah, it's just it's too hard. You're not going to be able to you can't be one. That would kind of presume maybe they would play in the play in. Well, you're talking there. That's that single elimination or pseudo single elimination depending on where you land seed wise. So that turns into a situation where if you have a clippers, that's not the time to be reincorporating guys into the lineup, and then you get into a spot where let's say you get into the actual playoffs. Also not a place to try to be reincorporated, guys. If you're talking with Kauai, he hasn't played all year and Paul George has by the time that rolls around has not played in months. So that's not an easy, just slide these guys back in. They were also not like Kyle korver type of player. Duncan Robinson, where it's just, hey, run the floor, shoot. Or PJ Tucker played defense and run to the corners, right? They're not plug and play guys. These are, we're going to build the entire thing to run around you. The way we build this team out. So yeah, my guess is we're looking at them probably. If they're not back, I'll say within the next three weeks. So give it a little over a week to go in the regular season. They're not back then. I think.

"I would that. Now, I mean, you could make this super easy and pick. Or jokic, or somebody like that. But I think when you're just talking about the types, that's what I think you want. You want so what do you can knock down shots as a spot up guy with Luca creates, but somebody who he will feel equally comfortable with seating possessions to because you know that possession is going to go somewhere from that player. I'd agree. I'd put an emphasis on the defensive end of the floor as well. You want somebody who can that's a good one who can be pretty switchy on that end and can make up for mistakes for a lot of different players can cover a lot of ground. A healthy Anthony Davis is a guy that I would think of, even though even if he's not as quite as much of a creator. But let me throw a name out there as far as a future pairing that I think could be really interesting again, maybe doesn't check that creator box. But what's jaren Jackson junior in two years? Yeah, I mean, he's already right now. And he's protecting the rim like crazy for the Memphis Grizzlies. Wouldn't he be an interesting pair? And I know in some ways you're recreating what porzingis was ideally going to be in terms of giving you some size and some range and things like that. Just never the defender exactly. And that's where I think that could be interesting. Yeah, I definitely could be fun. All right, is it on me? It's on me, right? Yep. Let's go with this one, this is a Lakers related one. Russell Westbrook possibly stay next season. Now we're assuming he's going to pick up that $47 million player option. Can't see anyway around that. I've had some people floating the idea that they do like the Chris Paul and you sign them for three years, 65 million. Whatever, if I was Ross I'd have to have an awful lot of faith that they're going to follow through. On that planet and it's not going to be, oh, you declined it for now. Just kidding. Let me take the take that back. Yeah. That's a good point. So let's assume he picks up that $47 million player option, is there any way the Lakers can hang on to Malik monk who's been very, very good for them this season been probably one of the better guys on a better minimum deal this year? Yeah, so we think through that. You then have LeBron Russ and AD and you're already at the cap essentially. With those three guys, if not exactly at the cap, you might already be there completely with just those three. It's going to be really close. So that limits you with monk to likely the taxpayer mid level. Because you have to also think there's a ton of roster spots you have to fill out that. That's probably going to be not enough. Is my guess. I think Malik monk was the oddest of this collection of one year minimum signings for this Lakers group just because of his age. But I think it was also a this is a chance for, if we think back to his thought process over the summer, I can win, I can play a big role that'll put me in top of mind to make a lot of money. Next year. And I think he's done all but the winning part of it out of notes circumstances of his own..

"Underscore lane over on Instagram at Trevor lane NBA. Joined by Keith Smith, that Keith Smith, NBA on the Twitter machine. It is all star weekend and so we decided heading into the weekends. Things are pretty quiet around the NBA, which is normal this time of year. We'd open up the mail bag. We'd throw it out to you guys and see what kind of questions you wanted us to address on the show. We got a lot of responses. Some of them pretty funny, some interesting ones. Some really good questions as well. And we're going to dive into a few of them that we've picked out. Keith, I was impressed just by the sheer volume of responses that we got to this. Considering we threw it out there like an hour or so before we started this show. Yeah, I was too, you know, to shut out to people for jumping in and hopefully we'll get to your questions. Well, B four warned their as the nature is with a Celtic sky in a Lakers guy. There's a lot of Boston in LA questions. We're not going to answer all of those just because we're trying to be a little bit more general here. If you want our thoughts on the Celtics and Lakers, you probably know by now where to find them from the two of us. But there's a couple of those that will get into as well. So let's get going. I do have to mention this. So late last night. I was sitting there and I was looking at, do I want to go back? Because when we changed some things in my system and I deleted our intro. Now I can always go back and just get it off of one of our previous videos, not a big deal. I deleted it and I knew okay. We can go grab it if I need to. But I haven't been putting it on our videos. And so I put up a poll here on our YouTube channel late last night asking people should we build a new intro, should I go get the old intro that we have been using? Some people like that some people and put that back in or should we just go with the cold open that we have been just start to show instantly. And that is winning right now, a 670 people have voted on this thing just on YouTube. And no intro at all.

"And I'm seeing a lot of people saying they can't stand Jay Crowder. Some people they didn't say they didn't see it, yeah, the play went ahead, AD was behind the play when Jay Crowder did this. So, yes, definitely something it's floating around out there on the Internet. You can go check it out, but yes, Jake Crowder very deserving of the master log, not just because that play, but because of who it was with, with Anthony Davis, let's not mess with AD's ankles with his legs like that, just all kinds of just awfulness. From Jay Crowder, there's simply no reason for that, especially in a preseason game. All right, let's see. Oh, somebody said, that's why AD shouldn't play in preseason. Well, I think we're also seeing why he should, right? There's a little bit of rust there with Anthony Davis. He wasn't able to play the end of last season and really be himself. He feels like he needs to get his legs under him a little bit. And so that's why he's told the Lakers that he wants to play in this game. He wants to play in these games because he wants to try to get some of that rust off of him he wants to get into a little bit of a rhythm. And I think he needs it right now. I think he looks like he kind of needs to get into a rhythm. So I understand that, but again, the injury risk always going to be a little extra careful with Anthony Davis. And so seeing that kind of play happen inexcusable. All right, let's do a couple more, and then we'll call it tonight , and we'll get over to watching the Dodger game here. The Dodgers right now still down. One to nothing at the top of the third cardinals have one runner on first with one out 52 pitchers thrown already by Max Scherzer come on, Dodgers. Let's get this going. So many mentioned from YouTube, the suns went zero and four last preseason and then went to the NBA Finals just saying, yeah, I mean, preseason really means nothing. The Lakers historically would lose most of their preseason games. Think about back to the shack and Kobe. Lakers, when they wouldn't play in preseason and the Lakers would lose a bunch because their guys weren't blank. That could very well be the case here. And it's not nothing. It's not nothing. There's things to take away from preseason games, but it's not the end all be all either. Dodgers get the runner out at second, two outs now with a runner on first,.

"I believe it was an Austin Reeves pass and where he spun in the lane and then finished, which was great. It looked amazing. And I mean, look, you look pretty quick on the play. But then notice what he did on it. It was a laying. And I'm thinking, and you can't help but think, man, that was a great play. But 5 years ago, that's a highlight reel dunk, right? He's not really that guy anymore. We've been hearing great things about him out of practice in terms of how he's been playing so far. We haven't seen that in game situations just yet. Again, and I'm sorry to repeat myself so much. It's very early. And so you don't want to write him off completely. But so far, he doesn't look great. Now, that doesn't mean you're going to play him a lot though, if he just doesn't look great in games. That means you're going to see more Dwight and more AD at the 5. So again, don't worry too much about that. But thus far haven't been that impressed with the Andre Jordan in terms of the mobility, in terms of his rib protection, it's been okay ish, but tonight you've got from Deandre Jordan three for three shooting. That's fine. Obviously, 7 boards, though, one assist 6 points in 20 minutes apply you'd like to see a bit better out of him tickly with the overall burst seem to be lacking in this one. Johnny kilroy said, did JaVale look better than Deandre Jordan tonight? Yes, yes, what I was just talking about there. Also, why didn't we sign JaVale if we plan on going back to the two center 2020 format? Johnny, thanks for the super chat. The reason why is because JaVale got almost twice what Deandre Jordan did, did JaVale got $5 million from the Phoenix sun. So the Lakers are paying a lot less for Deandre Jordan than what JaVale McGee is getting. I would think that if it was all equal and JaVale said, hey, I'm getting a bunch of better minimum offers. Then the Lakers would have offered him better minimum as well, and maybe he would be back. But he didn't, he got an offer for about double that from the Phoenix sun. So that's why the Lakers didn't get JaVale McGee and instead wound up with Deandre Jordan. Although from what we heard in the off season, they're another option for them, or at least they hoped was going to be an option, was Damian Jones. That was who they were hoping to bring back if you remember him from last season had a ten day contract couple attending contracts with the Lakers looked pretty decent. The Lakers eventually waved him in order to make room to bring in Andre Drummond. He went on to sign with the Sacramento Kings and the thought around the league was that the kings weren't going to pick up the $1.9 million player or team option on his deal for this year. And the Lakers were going to bring them back. And then the king surprised everybody and said, you know, we really need a 6th or 7th or tenth, whatever it is at this point, center on our roster. And so they picked up his option, brought him back and the Lakers were not able to snag him and that ultimately led the Lakers to getting Deandre Jordan instead. So what could have been? Could have had Damian Jones. I wasn't for the king's picking up that option..

"THT got going late did a 5 turnovers though. We will talk a bit about THT 11 points three boards three assists, two of four from three, so you like that. Kendrick nun also 11 points. But the main stand up for the Lakers second game in a row, Malik monk, 18 points this time, had 15 last time shot 7 for 11 from the field four for 7 from deep, make some really tough shots. Also racked up three assists on top of that. So Malik monk certainly the standouts so far, but we've got a lot of guys here to break down and discuss. So let me get into some of your questions and comments and let's go from there. All right, Dustin Riggs be. Faith from Facebook said, if its defense can improve over the rest of preseason, I feel like Malik should be the two guard starter. He does everything mostly better than the others plus. He showed he can do something in the pick and roll with AD. Offensively, you're right. Yeah, so if we're looking at the other competition, right to be the starting two garden when we're talking about Wayne Ellington, when we're talking about Ken bazemore offensively, he's better. There's no question. He's simply better. Now Wayne Ellington, probably the best pure shooter of the group. We haven't seen it so far. Malik monk, but again, in caution, everybody, it's a small sample size of the course of his career. We feel pretty good that Wayne Ellington is a good shooter. We just haven't quite seen that, but again, it's only two preseason games where I haven't even started the race just yet. So we have a ways to go here. But Wayne Ellington probably the better pure shooter, everything else offensively, though you could probably give two Malik monk in terms of creating his own shot, attacking the basket, setting up other people, passing all of that on the offensive end of the floor. Now, I will say, though, that Malik monk and Wayne Ellington are two of the worst offenders that the Lakers have on the perimeter you saw blink monkey burned by Abdul Nader tonight on one play where he tried..

"To stir the pot. Because that's sort of thing just toss us out somewhat cryptic tweets all the time So i do. Think the bigger issue with ben simmons is. The sixers are open to bring him back. The sixers are in a lotta ways. I think they would prefer that they would prefer say we don't want to trade this guy who can win defensive player of the year. Who is a young superstar in the making. Just come back and let's let's work on this but it doesn't seem like there's a there's a bridge there that is being walked across by both sides. I don't think i don't know. Ben simmons has that interest right now. Because i think were said afterwards after the season doc rivers said some things. Joel embiid said some things. I know there's been trying to smoothing out of that relationship but it doesn't seem like ben is necessarily interested in that right now. Maybe joel just really wanted to know what was going on. Maybe he mentions like why are people not telling me what their cars are doing. I'm not reading anything into the social media. But look i agree with ramona. The sixers would like to bring ben back ultimately in new team context. Maybe he looks better because his trade value right now is just not where daryl morey wants it to be. And that's why. I thought when kyle lowry went to the heat i thought the most interesting follow question. What was okay. Philly wanted to kyle lowry. What do they do now. Because if there was universe could get a quality perimeter player change ben's role a little bit. It was plausible at least in theory. Ben kind of morphs into a better player. Different player trae value up. And now that seems to be out the window. And like raimondo said maybe the face is just far out of the tube and boy if he's if he's on the rosser when training camp starts. I'll be very curious to see what is going on at that time. Well i mean well here. It is right in both both for yellow right. And here's the thing down more in the philadelphia. Seventy sixers are not trading. The way ben simmons for nothing. They're trying to get back. Mvp all nba type live for him. And if they don't get they're going to keep him they're going to keep him and they feel like they could fix the problem. They feel like all they. All it takes is a little marriage. Counseling you know. Look coming to jesus meeting tom. Heal wounds okay. You let everything settle. Dial you lock guys up in the gym. You make them work on they're craft. But here's the thing we're holding everybody accountable. We're saying things about being a joel. Embiid doc rivers in what they said in the post game interview but we have to hold ben simmons accountable been simmons and we're not just talking about him shooting jump shot. We're talking about him. Bring it back. Just having his overall confidence of even looking to score As attacking the basket. And if i'm ben. Simmons i'm blocking myself in the gym and i'm shooting a thousand free throws a day. That's the only reason bill. Simmons didn't want to attack the basket was because he was scared to go to the free. Throw line it's all about. Confidence is all about accountability. And one thing. I know from being under the guy and winning the championship. Doc rivers not only as a helluva coach but he's a great mentor and he's a great guy as far as repair relationships and making things happen and make things work. Let's not forget that this team was one game away from being in the eastern conference finals so at the end of the day. Look if you can't get what you want form bring them back. This guy still has a very high ceiling to reach. He hadn't even reached his prime yet. It's still a lot of hope for these young men man you guys. I've been saying for this entire stretch. This is the lowest his trade value. It just does not seem to make sense to me. now. I don't have to be a now locker room but it does not make sense to me. As an organization to train him when his value was the lowest. You want to wait till his value comes back up to more teams are closer and maybe have had an injured player and they need benjamin's in there more than they need a ben simmons right now and i do think doc is good at repairing relationships and at some point you're all being paid millions of dollars plan a team together. Make it. okay ben. Simmons did decide not to play for team australia. Be in the semi-finals against the us when that comes up at the end of the week to work on his game perk just like you suggested so. Hopefully he's following his advice and we will see what happens ruined and thank you so much joining us. We really appreciate it. What a day for you to become an oncoming up. We're.

"Here. Are some shooting numbers of guys last season caldwell-pope not going to be there anymore. Caruso not going to be there anymore. Macklemore not sign right now. Kyle clues dot com neither anymore. So you've got a lot of these guns no longer at your disposal and the age thing is real guys. They've got six signed players right now. Seven if you count russ right. Who has his way on six of those seven or eight thirty. Two or older chunk of them are over thirty five. I mean there is no question. This is an older team. And i do think you're right perk much like we were talking in the last segment about the olympics. You have a bunch of guys you put them together for long enough. They do eventually figure it out and the idea of sacrificing to win a championship. That is more real. The older you get it is real that you stop worrying as much about your individual numbers it is real that you can feel like what kind of done everything already so for a guy like mellow. That's looking for his first ring. That is very meaningful in terms of what you are willing to do for the team but we have been talking so much this past season about injuries and yes obviously all the game stuffed in there because of covert all of that kinda stuff has made a difference but if you look at the actual injury numbers. They're not far off the previous years. Injuries are frankly a part of professional sports. We don't like them. We don't talk about them. It capsizes some teams hopes just when they position themselves right. But you have an older team. You are going to have more injury issues you have to deal with. That is just the facts of life of aging. Is everybody involved on this. Panel can probably tell you also a good note. Lebron now the longest tenured. La laker three years on the team. "What are your thoughts on the lakers strategy. Now that we are seeing a panic you know what's amazing race is. I was in the parking lot. This is back when we used to do. Stakeouts number eight agency was staked out meetings and everybody used these have meetings before everybody constantly. I g storied in tweeted. You don't have to stake any players out now they'll just tell you and it was. It was amazing because the lakers really thought they had a chance of mellow back in two thousand fourteen. That was a big moment and they got really close. The only trump car was phil. Jackson was the president of back then and he had the fifth year and he gave him the the whole thing but they they really thought they had a at carmelo. Anthony all those years later and you look. I mean that's my favorite expression on the show. I guess sliding doors gay but the sliding doors of mellows career of lebron's career I like this. I like that mellow sort of restarted his career and and he's become a really three point shooter career-high forty one percent last year. That's what the lakers need. And and their cumulative ages are getting up like he will be there and to make lebron feel like he's a little bit older than the But the i love. I love the fact that they got mellow angelique. Mom and bleak muck on a minimum. I was going to say that is that is some wizard near also kind of speech. Zoo our strategy. We were talking about with chris bosh yesterday. That when he and lebron and dwayne waiver down in miami they were able to be like. Hey come to miami. I know you won't be making that much money. But come and be with us. Yeah it's gonna be a party and it seems like they are starting to pick up a little bit of that momentum to look my big question about the lakers. Now is the burden on defense for lebron who is still incredible. Defensively and anthony davis and we all know is defense. Kennedy is getting bigger and bigger and bigger because what you troll the minimum. Been guys like this. They're older liabilities defensively. But mellow to ramona's point has bought into a spot up shooting role and been really good at it. and he's gonna fit well next to laurent. Emily monk look he's not going to get the headlines here because this is carmelo.

"Story and look. This is the kind of flyer the lakers were going to have to take. They did not have any capri left to go. They're going to have to get guys. They're chasing rings on the minimum and carmelo to his credit. He wants to do ice. Oh and shoot it portland. He bought into a role as a spot up. Shooter shot the three well. That's the role. He's going to have to play for the lakers. But with all of these guys whether it's ellington as more reza carmelo with the exception of res. I think the big question is going to be when push comes to shove when you're in the conference finals when you're in the second round the place whatever it is. Can you stay on the floor defensively. Do the lakers who have made their bones all the sexy stuff. Whatever they have made their bones on defense have they hurt their defense. Too much in this in this. All of this rosser building. I think that's they. They are going to be a really interesting team. Well let me ask you a question which also reporting maleek monk to the lakers. Where do you think now as you look at the whole roster and where where it sort of sets or great flyer for the lakers. I haven't seen that. I looked at my phone kind of nice bounceback season last year. He could really shoot. He can play make as a secondary playmaker that is. That's that when they lost caruso they needed more guys in their prime and maliki manca stolen is prime. And i think that's a that's a great move by rapport guys so great flyer parkway where you see what i love the move of getting mark. I think he's a hell of a addition. But you see. Zach is still trying to find holes and talking about defensive prowess in the defensive identity. They still have anthony davis they still have the white. How would they still have lebron. James look when you have a veteran group like is. This group is built for a seven game series because you have a veteran group. That's gonna bulk down. They know what it takes. You have a lot of championship spears. Look stop trying to find holes and find things. That's wrong with the lakers. Instead of just saying listen. I know they have an old scoring but they have a lot of talent on this team. They have a lot of death and they have fixed these holes joe trying to talk about depth. I don't know talent. yes and look now in one place. I just want to put this out there. Lebron james anthony davis russell westbrook carmelo anthony. The list goes on to show on. Talk about showtime. I think is going to be pretty incredible right across the street here. I'm personally happy. We have another orioles fan here in. La our friend. Kyle goon from the orange. County register is very excited. I know about that as well. So the newsgroup so Yeah i think that Overall this is a win all the way. We are going to be talking a lot. More about the lakers. We're gonna be talking about team. Usa able to push back spain.

"Year. it's not like he's in decline or anything and that was without klay thompson that was with the team. That was kind of a makeshift team. Trying to find its way. They obviously have made so far choice to stay younger and draft younger players. And that's sort of been controversial but look this would be really good next year. And this this is what you do for an all time icon not just set an all time leader and culture center for that locker room all the vibes. All everything stems from him and look. There's no question that he was just chime back. And god knows. I just wanna know zach zach could give us then. We'll go when three points La fitness is act. You be dignified this. I hope he just fell off your chair. I just want to get a little credit. My shoulders doing excellent excellent job here. And there's no question of course steph curry of composes himself. There's no question steph. Curry deserves the only interesting wrinkle. I think in this and this is good bring on the warriors is that lebron kind of ushered in with those one in one's with cleveland and we saw kevin durant then do it and golden state and then we've other people pick it up throughout the league this idea of players using short or contracts to hold management accountable players who realized they were so good. Didn't need the quote security of a four year deal because they knew in a year or two they could get another big deal so why not have shorter deals to hold management management accountable producer. Steve is eric saying stall so we gotta work on that but the idea that that you hold management accountable and i think that him signing this deal early remember youngest into kupu did not sign that supermax until the first week of training camp basically right. He was already back in training camp and that was on purpose. The purpose was. Let's see what you do this summer. The fact that steph curry has signed this extension right at the beginning of when he could sign this extension. That to me is just as much of a message as the holding people accountable guys of saying i am holding management accountable. And i think they're doing good work. I think it is a specific vote of confidence in the front office and we should note that as well. I think the reason that producer. Steve has asked me to stall a little bit is that we have breaking news going on adrian. We're now ski reporting carmelo. Anthony is on his way back to sorry. He's on his way to back to being reunited.
