"Shields is with us always a pleasure to have him on the Sunday mornings Mike we we'll take some questions on Twitter if people want to tweet at the sid came away exports are you consented to mind if you want Ackerman eleven twenty I'll be able to see them both there is a question right out of the gate and it is about the minor leagues they they want to get your thoughts on and and I know that you don't have all the information right now I would just use the your general feeling and I know you do have strong feelings from your family ties to it about the future of the minor league system in you know the strength of it right now and and what's to come what do you know about the future of the minor leagues well I don't know anything and for any certainty you know it Marley Stevens is up in the air more so than ours clearly from a revenue standpoint and just the national interest that you know and from a TV perspective that the Major League Baseball season is is at the forefront doesn't mean in minor league seasons being orders not important but I will say that you know right now baseball in general just trying to get other major league product back in in operating and and in our culture again and and you know my hope is that minor league baseball beautiful all based on some of the practices will be taking place soon soon after but you know it'll be it going to be interesting clearly we need our our system and and everybody system to deploy in developing to be available to be able to continue to her sister majorly payment have those players you know can improve their craft and you know the trickle down effect of the amateurs as well of course the draft is gonna be modified this year on some level fairly significantly I would imagine so I'm not really sure what it looks like a my hope is that you know like my hope is for the greater good of our society is that you know we get more clarity and resolution of what we're dealing with and and get back with more normal way of operating our license and that would hopefully clearly impact modeling baseballs will urine turn through the minor leagues has been well documented but talking about it here I just I love following all your travels through the years and your first I wanted you to recall I don't know that I've ever asked you this your first game as a manager can you do you recall that specifically and what that felt like to to see your team run out for the first time as a manager in the cardinal system because I know you have done it you know of course your coach before that but now you're now you're you're you're in the cardinals organization well I mean it's it's it was not as thrilled to still surreal in the sense of you know I I have yeah getting into player development was something that was a little bit of a long shot on on any console time basis so when I was able to do that I was obviously very excited about it and and and she then started managing games with us so I can't really definitively say when it was like to officially was two thousand and nine in Johnson City on officially it was what Marty John world were really got the best experience of my baseball life bye for Ching with him and he would let me manage a high percentage of our games when I coached with him for three years and he would say initially just ornaments okay I could certainly do let me run the office so you know you do it and you know you wanna bonded runs do what you want to do and then after a while you're living maintenance man at the games and so then you know it's pretty heavy stuff and I and I just you know didn't really even think at that point I'm still going to be an opportunity for me to like what generally can be the manager of the team and then two thousand on let it I manage the job city club and set first game you know it's you just step back and you go you know how how did that happen you know when you're just grateful for and you look over and and then you get down to the account of the competition the game and you don't want to get to lose your voice your focus too much you wanna you wanna be there and imagine a model games a little differently you want to win a game but you know there's just a different ball process of how you go about managers such as the rookie level where you're trying to create opportunities for players so it was a it was surreal I bet it was mark D. John I love that guy and hearing the two of you and what you did together I was like oh six oh seven right when you were coaching with him yeah yeah five six seven and then I would be heading coaching job city without and then in two thousand eight the turned out to kind of get acclimated to the league and beer and a man in the next year but yeah three years and and he was in my Michelle's wedding and just a just a great dude and ministers will guide the director about the planet I'm amazed as Malik Johnson City now you were successful with them your first year with them you went thirty seven thirty your second year your team went forty two and twenty four you B. tell your first two playoff opponents you won the Appalachian league championship your name the cardinals minor league manager of the year by the service scout dot com here you are in Johnson City Tennessee which by the way for folks who don't know I know our cardinals fans mostly know this but it's right on the North Carolina border pretty much which is your home state what does that mean to you yeah this one is kind of bittersweet because you know it was great because Europe or the country that you're all familiar with but you're in rookie ball you're playing sixty eight gains in seventy one days is the regular season for that and then of course the internal then we went and won the league both years and they go a little further so I'm getting that are you really you're you're close to home but I will be in California because you're you're just plain and getting after it every day and so you really have an opportunist sued over for the weekend and then check out your your home and the days offer are pretty precious so yeah it was it was great to be enough for the country mostly because people come visit us from there with but as for me to be able to break out and get home and and hang out that wouldn't really an option that's right you had also receive that you're the George Kissell award I know we talked about Mr Kissel last show but that award is for excellence in player development and I know that meant a ton to you as well yeah probably them the most important and most impactful individual awards that I've ever worn and and you know you may say well gosh you know Mander the year in the National League that's on a minimum of that at all I view that as a very much of a a staff award in a team will work more than an individual work and the kiss award obviously the name of Mr Kissel it's just this means the world to use you know much respect you have foreman and it's just a revered award an organization and then when it and it's also voted on by the people and organizations so you know anytime you win an award from your from your peers two nine two and it represents your guess is name is this for me at least very we also show and here you are a decade later and you have this team on the verge of repeating as an L. central champions if they can get out there and pitch run defend and get some consistently a consistency offensively they're gonna be right in the mix if not at the top and that is some accomplishment that I know you continue to push for a talk about the twenty twenty club a little bit more we come back our final segment sports on a Sunday morning a camel X. love talking ball with Mike chilled the cardinals manager I'm Tom Ackerman back after this now John o'leary's.

"Crazy, you know? And it's so frustrating because I think that's like sich a beautiful creative storytelling opportunity the way that they've been able to build up hype. This neat like this really intense need to know because it's also that need to know that brings us all together. I mean think about the large majority of the conversations we have on the set how excited we get bouncing ideas off of one another. So that's the good side of it. The bad side is I think it ups the risk that we're seeing with people getting home. Old material that shouldn't be out there right now and leaking it online, and I I don't necessarily see that scenario getting much better. I think that if you wanna be on the side of being in a spoiler free world, you're just gonna have to take it upon yourself one to put up certain safeguards for your own mind. But also to to just be h-have as a fan, and to respect the fact that not everybody out there has seen a movie as quickly as you have and try to make change that way. But there are certain uncontrollable factors here comments. In life. Just in general what I would do is any screening that was before it was released. If if there's a press screening if there's a I don't know what screening this apparently leaked from. But if there's any sort of screening for comes out, I would love if they'd just instead of having the people in the front turn around with their goggles. They just mount two sets of fricken infrared that film the audience like the year for the audience reactions have that going in addition, check phones at the door like in concerts, a lot of concerts. They check your fucking thing. Now, I don't need my I don't need to be corresponding during the belief. I'm in a screen. I don't need this. This should be a way locked up on dictum iphone, but I don't want that leaking and have press if I'm one of them have them registered their seat. Like, you're going to AMC in advance. I want that seat registered to me that way if there's footage from that area. You check the phones those five people like I think lock everything down as much as Disney used to do that where they would take your phone. They check it before you get into. Still do it. So I'm just trying to think this through practically right now first off. I don't think that this leaked footage came from any sort of press screening or other type of industry screening. I think it came from in house, and it was a major breach there. But when it comes to just, you know, trying to figure out practical ways to stop spoilers from getting out there. I think there should be some sort of an I'm not the one to design tech like this. But there has to be something that they could put up in movie theaters that just kind of kills reception or also well, and then if there's an emergency or something I mean, see that's part of the problem though. It's like I think about that initially like even without tech. I'm like, oh, well, even if they let's say they implement the thing that marble desert certain press screenings where you put yours in your in the little bag, and you can't access it would that maybe deter people from going to the movies at all especially for three hour movie where they don't have access to a phone and God forbid, there's a family emergency. You can't get to it. I I can't think of a realistic solution to all of this. And. Upsets me is just like you have your air marshal on planes. You got someone with a phone up front and they're watching over if anything happens. It's like I mean every time I've done universal screening anywhere. There's always a guy a big guy. Don't have your phone out. You know, just walking around making. Sure, looking no I was just going to say, I think the footage came from a press related event. They they showed twenty minutes to a certain exclusive press members, and then someone from their leaked or something weird. Like that. I don't exactly very surprised if they leaks if they showed something like that's the press that had heavy spoilers like super heavy game changing spoilers this movie. I I mean to be completely honest. I didn't really look into it all that much because I don't care to be there anyway. And the only reason we're bringing it up right now is because we want to give you guys some ideas to just kind of stay on your toes and avoid spoilers yourself. I was reading this article on fortune dot com, and some of this might sound obvious to some of you guys. But it's worth putting it out there. You do have the option to download this ad on. If you have Cromer fire FOX it's called. Spoiler protection two point. Oh, and that lets you selectively block certain phrases, you can use that. Of course, there's the muted word feature on Twitter on top of that. We have the issue of read it, which has far fewer controls. But that's where you can kind of take matters into your own hand and just avoid threads. Like, let's say the marvel studios spoilers threads. Just don't go there. I really don't go there. And also. Yeah, where you should probably do what we're doing right here in courage people to behave. We have these nice things for a reason don't ruin it. You imagine spending eleven years on a property that ends with something hundreds of millions of dollars in our last film, all of the secrecy, and then this leaks like it's just despicable. It's gross. 'cause this is this isn't just a movie that the people that work on the movie this life. This is their livelihood. This is like everything that they've put years into and your as a fan appreciating it. So the people that are just there's nothing, but badness there there's no positive Lou silver lining to deuce back. Well, here's a question for you. Let's say you saw the footage by accident. Are you now no longer going to watch the movie it depends on the person? I mean, I'm. Not gonna I'm sitting no matter. What exactly like for me? I'm going to watch it no matter what I'm going to go out and see the movie and still give them my fifteen, but although. Like those poor people. I don't know what that's the problem is anyone knowing means they can be that person. And then it's like, there's an if you're unaware, let's say there is no filter on Twitter that if you're not aware that this happened, and you're busy scrolling through your feet, and all of a sudden something pops up like well now, I know that that's that is a major problem. I really don't think this footage leak is going to affect the film's box office whatsoever. Just isn't fair, and it isn't right. And I hate that. This is happening becoming a flew in an airplane as soon as just everywhere. That's not fair. There's no comparison. I just you know, that person sniffle, and you're just sitting there like that better. Not okay. I'm gonna be sick tomorrow. You know it. I don't want that like spread around my social media. Do you? Remember the soundtrack for episode one. When it said Cuagone funeral. Remember, I also just do wonder because I can't understand anyone getting any satisfaction out of like have either of you ever act purely on accident spoilt something in a movie for someone else because I have done it before I am a human being. Hopefully, none straddle, but in my real life, and I will tell you. I I feel awful after awful I feel like I feel like a terrible human being because I have ruined something that I got to enjoy for someone else. So I just don't understand the satisfaction. Anyone gets out of this? You have shot non spoiler reviews before and worried about sometimes race. And we were like just in case, and we shot in the entire thing. Because his sentence. We set a sentence that wasn't a spoiler. But because someone could imply something that might imply something else that could land in the spoiler. We reshot a twenty five minute thing out of the safety and protection of a light. Maybe spoiler that wasn't even because that's how much we don't want to ruin what is the sensitive. Limitations on spoilers for you, guys. Three weeks three weeks. It's impossible. But that's the dream. Okay. I mean, are we are we talking about like in a one on one conversation if I just reduce its Twitter. I would say something something like I would probably go even beyond that. Because I know there's people out there for for one reason or another whether something's going on their life or whatnot. There's a reason that they might not be able to see that movie for awhile. It's like for weeks after when or actually this is a good example when I walk out of the movie, let's say, and I tweet my reaction, and there's a whole bunch of replies. To me ask him. What would you think about this? If anything has anything to do with a spoiler, I won't reply at all for a very very long time. I don't think I would feel comfortable posting an endgame spoiler for probably another month. I'm thinking three weeks without the caveat. And then we'll probably do a non spoiler for two weeks then on the third week with all the warnings ever with Ray the hands with buttons with graphics. Then I would like you can't possibly not know. That's the thing. It's like in reality Thursday night when avenger. Endgame is available in theaters there will be a collider. Spoiler review for the thing is when it will be branded spoiler all over the place. And that puts the choice in everybody out there. Your hands to click or not to click what we're talking about. Right now is taking that option away from somebody blindsiding them with a spoiler. That's the problem for ten years. He's been going on for a decade. Some people haven't had a chance to catch up yet. If only everybody followed Abby, maybe the world would be a safer place from spoiler is presumably six cents. Bruce will actually. No, no, it's fine. We joke about that. All the time decades later is a different story have at it. All right. We've got one more story to hit. And this is an interesting one. It is also I mean semi in the avengers world because it involves Robert Downey junior. If you didn't know he's making a doctor Doolittle movie, and the movie had already been pushed nine months off of its release date. And now, we kind of know why? Because apparently what happens is universal reps. And the producers sore an early cut of the movie, and they decided to bring in not only Chris McKay, but Jonathan leave is meant to help directors Stephen Geoghegan on the movie because I guess they weren't happy with the quality of the cut. So just in case, you're not aware of what this movie is. It's called the voyage of Dr Doolittle, and it finds Robert Downey junior playing a live action, Dr Doolittle, and he can speak to CG animals. His movie has a crazy crazy cast, Tom Holland Rami. Malik johnson. Komo nanjiani Selena. Gomez Emma, Thompson, Octavia Spencer, Craig Robins, and the list goes on and on this is a huge huge cast and a huge cast warrants a big budget. Apparently, this movie was budgeted at one hundred seventy five million dollars before marketing and distribution. And what happened now is that there's reshoot s- not normal re-shoots though, according to t- HR McKay, I came into assess the cut and come up with new ideas as well as oversee the writing of new material the studio did want him to do the re-shoots, and he wasn't able to. So that's when he suggested that they bring in leaves men. So now, we have two people on board. In addition to the original director who is still in play here. And this is basically not just being described as oh restraints that were originally worked into our budget. We're talking about an extensive amount of research. I think it amounts to twenty one additional days for tiger bay. That is a lot. That is a lot. We downplay re-shoots all the time here because it's par for the course on big budget movies. Not like. This Jabbie based on that description. Do you have any faith that they will pull it together on this movie? Your I don't think it's always good money being thrown after bad and anytime, it's extensive like this. But I honestly don't think that it even matters. It's a kids movie at the end of the day. They're going to watch it. And enjoy no matter what. I have a little bit of concern that it won't do as well. Because Dumbo didn't do great. It came in under expectations from Disney, but the original Dr Doolittle grossed three hundred million dollars in nine hundred ninety eight which translates to about four hundred seventy million dollars today. So they could make their money back if any of those people from nine hundred ninety eight care. I mean, it's a strong franchise. I guess, and that's I wasn't like it's nowhere in my mind as oh, yeah. That should be remade. But lots of people have animals and Dumbo was just an elephant. So maybe maybe if it's multiple animals has got a higher chance of getting kids butts in the seats these animals tuck. Well, yeah, that's even more interesting. Because I remember when you were a kid and you wanted to talk to your animal, and how cool would it be if they talk back to you think this cast, plus the actual IP is great. I love the doctor Dolittle franchise. I love the idea of talking animals, and the Downey junior talking animals with that cast is is all for it. I'm actually wondering how that didn't work. What are the all those pieces? You just tell me all that cast, plus Dr Doolittle, plus Downey junior talking animals, and I'm like, okay, I'm in and like what level of not working could cause re-shoots for twenty one days like twenty one days an indie films entire production. Schedule like a small film can shoot it's entirety and twenty one days. I'm wondering how bad something with all those amazing agreements could be how do you mess up marshmallow Graham cracker chocolate? It is something to do with. Director. And when we're talking about Stephen Geoghegan, he did win an Oscar for his work on the traffic script. But if you look at his directing resume, he doesn't have any experience with this type of material this I mean, this tone working with the so many heavy CG elements. I mean, that's probably why they brought in leave as men because you know, whether you like his movies or not I did think he found some success with that first teenage mutant ninja turtles movie he knows his way around a set like that. And McKay always seems like solid support. So I understand why they brought him in. I just don't understand why they hired Geoghegan from the start. And why they gave it a budget one hundred hundred seventy five million dollars one hundred seventy five million dollars. I don't understand that either. Except for the fact that Disney, and they seem to have endlessly deep pockets. Disney. Plus absolutely seven dollars. Zam ninety five I heard before advertise. Okay. Compare that to a hundred seventy five on Dr freakin Doolittle doing what you're doing with all that more elements when you're doing all these animals, of course, you're you're definitely dealing with more elements. But it's just sometimes I think that when you're budgeting a movie because one hundred and seventy five million dollars isn't a crazy crazy amount of money. You could do a lot with a little sometimes you have to box yourself in. And you've to give yourself that pressure. Because then that also has the opportunity to maybe like spark creative ideas that you didn't have before because you were under the pressure to do something for a minimal amount. It was low budget wherever dooney juniors pitcher because one hundred and seventy million for this picture, the five million the left and all the other hand. It's interesting to me as I'm already on board. Like, what sells me is the fact that you told me that cast I remember hearing, Dr Daniel junior, and I was in. I'm just curious how something like how that can go to the fall apart like this. And like, how did I didn't know? Traffic like that just came together. Traffic charming animals, doughty junior. Like what I hope? It's good. Because I now I'm excited for this move. Who made Mad Max also made babe George Miller defeat happy yet? So it didn't need. I don't need three babe movies. Think of right now is we have the guy who directed Syria and gold going onto direct doctor who let up it's just so many questions, and that's not always a bad thing. Like art directors that take that leap and do something that's completely out of the wheelhouse. When we get great surprises like happy feed is great. And I love Ben max v wrote those are laying that's a perfect example. But I also don't know if I wanna see David fincher telling me, the story of Charlotte's web. That'd be like.
