"Jury and the Elizabeth Holmes trial has come back The judge apparently has accepted their verdict Let's get you more detail shall we Joining us live is a malathi niac Bloomberg legal news here in California Thank you so much for joining us now As the day unfolded the jury had told the judge that only 8 of the counts had they agreed on three they couldn't agree on So when the jury when the verdict finally came down was it partial Was it full what did they say So it was a partial verdict that was just read out in court just a few minutes ago and homes was convicted of four out of 11 counts of conspiracy and wire fraud And as you mentioned earlier the jury just as they had indicated earlier today they didn't reach a verdict on three of the 11 counts So when it comes to the remaining 8 count she was found guilty of four and not guilty of the remaining four Okay so four and four and then the three are out there basically they are hung on those and it's too early in the game to know what will happen with those correct Yes So it's up to the judges discretion So it's quite possible that there would be a mistrial and he did indicate that during a previous discussion today that he may entertain a mistrial on the remaining counts on which the jury was unable to reach unanimous decision So we could have a potential rehearsing on those on those counts but it's also possible that the U.S. prosecutors if they're satisfied with the outcome they may just back off from that So we'll have to see how it goes right now There's just a lot of speculation in terms of next steps So we have the verdict right now and it's up to the judges discretion And he will definitely consult with the attorneys on both sides to figure out how to move forward Yeah so now what we're talking about here of course is theranos Theranos and this is wire fraud and actual fraud in legal terms So what are we talking about What was she charged with Do we have an idea of what the sentencing could be and what she stands to break Sure So she was charged with 11 counts and two of those counts were conspiracy to commit wire fraud and the remaining were fraud cancer defrauding investors as well as patients two of them who potentially got bogus results for HIV and pancreatic cancer And there was one more count related to ads that purchased to run to promote their brand but those ads didn't end up running So on those counts related to the ads and two of the patients she was found not guilty and moving forward we have to see now that she has been convicted of four counts only previously the sentence for all 11 counts could have been a maximum of 20 years but it's possible that she's going to get much less than that now that we just have a guilty verdict on four counts So it's possible that she will be sent next to a minimum security camp After his sentencing of course so the next step will be a sentencing that the judge will call for based on the results that we have today Okay Thank you so much And we'll continue to be unpacking this for sure for quite a while until we get the sentencing Malathy niaga Bloomberg legal news here in California In San Francisco I'm at Baxter This is Bloomberg all right back to you guys Thanks Ed Let's get now to our guest Steve Ross who's CIO of standard childhood wealth management and he is here with us discussing the latest on the markets you do expect equities to outperform bonds and cash in 2020 2022 It's hard to say We had a Bloomberg news survey not even among a 106 institutional investors saying banks are the place to be over green energy growth U.S. tech EM where are you looking for outperformance Yes So I think from our perspective from a regional perspective we're still looking at the U.S. and Europe So obviously Europe starts the year with a little bit of challenge with regards to the being widespread and lockdowns being seen there But as we go through the year and consistent with what we're talking about earlier we do see that as becoming less of an issue as we go through the year In terms of the European market is heavily tilted towards financials more than elsewhere in the world So that sort of plays into that But we think it's also too early to dispute the leadership the tech has seen so obviously we've seen this back in ten year yield That's not great for growth companies generally and tech in particular But overall we're not looking for dramatically high yields going forward and we see tech is still still doing pretty well in 2022 So in the U.S. our favorite sector is still tech and we see that doing very well Steve I'm curious to get your take on the apac region We know China is such an important driver of economic activity and the way that the economy on the mainland has been performing You could argue that Beijing may have to significantly lean into more easing through the early part of this year at any rate Is that why you might want to hold back on taking positions in various markets across Asia You need a stronger cue coming out of China Yes China is obviously a bit of a challenge because if you look at it from the size of market perspective China is obviously the key part in within EM let alone within Asia and getting more of our key both from a bond market and from equity market perspective But then you look at the cyclical aspects and growth is clearly slowing on our structural basis So we're looking for 5% growth this year And if you look at the regulatory environment obviously that's very uncertain So the way that we are playing this from a China perspective is we're looking for certain areas within China that we believe are in line with the authorities Aims to grow the economy and more sustainable and it's common prosperity think it's coming up and that's a key area for us So we're looking at areas of high-tech manufacturing sort of playing into the self sufficiency theme and also green transition So where we believe that obviously the cog 26 and China's involvement in climate trying to deal with climate change is going to be a major driver of policy as well So that's really the way that we're positioning ourselves regards to China Do you see any outperformance in Asia nations that have been hit incredibly hard over.
