"Where is First Lady melania trump when her husband is so often front and center a clearer picture emerges from correspondent Tracy Smith in our Sunday morning cover story I will fight to protect you I am here president of law and order recently while president trump was talking law and order they've got to get tougher got to get stops on First Lady melania trump was tweeting about healing and peace so it's voluntary I have to do it and back in April when you're hesitant trump declined to wear a facemask I don't think I'm going to be doing it his wife put one on and urged others to do the same these are not the recommended guidelines to keep us all safe okay it's not exactly a palace coup and some might say not nearly enough to keep her husband's more controversial actions in check but either way according to a new book melania trump has more influence than you might think this is very different than the narrative that some people have painted that she is trapped I hope makes a crazy to say she's poor melania trapped she's not she is smart independent she will decide what she wants to do and she doesn't want to do melania trump thank you very much hello Sir prize winner Mary Jordan is the author of the art of her deal published by Simon and Schuster a Viacom CBS company of course you asked to interview melania for this book what happened basically no reply the trumps both of them make people who are around them sign non disclosure agreements they also I've quickly learned told people that knew Malani when she was young which is model to not talk the White House dismisses the book as fiction but Jordan says that after several years and more than a hundred interviews a clearer picture emerged of a woman who grew up dreaming of a life far away from her native say it needs us Lavigne she's a girl who grew up in a really small town and couldn't wait to get out she told everyone that I mean everyone I talked to in Slovenia said she couldn't wait to get out of this town she wanted to be where the action is at first young melania wanted to study architecture but she was persuaded that modeling was a better option and she found success doing mostly print work in Europe and later in New York City she what Donald Trump in two thousand five became a US citizen in two thousand six and eventually sponsored her mother and father Amalie and Victor to be U. Trump abandoned the citizenship census question, yet thousands still have to answer it

"The president announced on Thursday that he is dropping further attempts to include the citizenship question on the twenty twenty census instead he signed executive order that's gonna require the commerce department to separately gather data from other departments within the government and then putting that together with the census information they'll get a complete picture of who all the citizens and non citizens are in the country we spoke to Nicole the ray immigration reporter at law three sixty for more on this the press conference that he gave was kind of weird it started off with his rhetorical question are you a citizen Gee I can answer that question are you a citizen of the United States of America Gee I'm sorry I just can't answer that question he essentially conceded that continuing to pursue the ship question in court but it also leaves preventing the center from being printed on time but at the same time he answered the negative order saying that states may actually be able to use their citizenship data that the department of commerce will ask me to draw electric affect based on eligible voters so that in some ways could be a concerning point that the X. value at least has highlighted is something that could be challenged in court at a later time but as of now it appears that comp is totally backing down on including the citizenship question on the census and definitely not a win for him he specifically said that I'm not backing down in my effort to get all of this information on who are citizens and non citizens this method that he's gonna go through with this executive order is basically what the census bureau said they should do instead you know go through all the other departments and you can get this information this way I guess the executive order is just making it clear that these other departments have to provide this information to the commerce department they can't provide this data to the commerce department but they also won't be actually allowed to use any kind of thank you that you may not get a more accurate this is just basically calling the resources that already exist within the government and it's creating a whole lot of new resources let's talk about bill Barr the Attorney General because the president brought him out to explain the back down it is the way I saw it obviously the Supreme Court said you can't put this question on the census you need to go back to the drawing board and give us different reasons for why you want to do this you can explain yourself well enough the first time so bill Barr comes out to basically explain that away saying the Supreme Court shot is down we can do it this way and he congratulated the president twice to say congratulations Mister president you're gonna get these numbers anyways I and it was just a weird picture that was going on actually catch this decision as a practical one he said that if the White House went back to the drawing board and fully explains the rationale behind the citizenship question in your credible court where this case now is they would definitely win but with such an abbreviated timeline for printing the census it ultimately he said just came down to a decision practicality rather than it being a matter of not being able to win the legal argument it did seem that way because the Supreme Court did say that they do have the right to ask the question is just you're not doing it the right way just yet go back to the drawing board and that that that was it the time line was just not working in their favor they needed to start printing the census pamphlets since July first I believe it was so go back to the drawing board it was just delay everything and you know that would just cause even more problems this is all going on against this backdrop we've been told that there's going to be a number of raids on undocumented migrant families by ice over the weekend I think they're starting Sunday and they're gonna be talking at least two thousand immigrants have been ordered to be deported and this gonna happen in at least ten major cities it's all in bucket it's a great immigration policy is better thank you they're in a great first in responding to your question on the campus that would improve their political power and now trust them service into hiding with each additional rates on but you know what the ACLU is now challenging you grades preemptively in New York federal court they just found a few today thank that the government have to get at least twenty families may be affected by that an opportunity to present their case in court and have a chance to make their teeth forty four Michael Moran immigration reporter a lot three sixty thank you very much for joining us thank one of the big stories of the week happened over the weekend and into Monday where federal prosecutors released an indictment against billionaire financier Jeffrey apps the in charge him with sex trafficking and creating a vast network of under age victims for him to sexually exploit the indictment alleges that he would pay girls for massages that would then become sex acts and then pay the girls more money to recruit other girls the store has a lot of details and even some connections to the current labor secretary Alexander Acosta for more on this we spoke to Kate breakaway she's a senior reporter the daily beast she was in court for actually is arraignment and tells us more details new about this is that he's being prosecuted in New York but the allegations are hauntingly similar to those that he faced in Florida about a decade ago and so the idea is that Jeffrey obscene uses employees as associates to recruit under age girls to come to his mansion and give him the sauces but once they arrive to his mansion in Palm Beach these are suppose it massage sessions actually turned into sexual abuse and molestation he paid the girls hundreds of dollars each visit and then he paid his victims to recruit even more underage girls so it is in a sort of the sex trafficking pyramid scheme that he was accused of running in Florida and now with thirty the New York are accusing him of doing the same thing but it is a pre side mansion in Manhattan but the motives and the and the methods are all very much the same in both cases the thing that's crazy about this story is obviously okay so he's connected to a lot of really famous important people Bill Clinton president Donald Trump even famous lawyers Alan Dershowitz is kind of wrapped up in all this stuff with him as well but tell us what happened because when this was going down in Florida he got some sort of sweet heart plea deal that let him just plead guilty to two counts of prostitution and everything basically went away he got a year in jail but even that he was getting out six days a week I think on work release this is back in two thousand seven he's a powerful financiers you said he has a little black book filled with famous people including you know these so seats of the Clinton assistance of the Clintons he had Malani and Donald Trump and his little black book I mean he knew everybody and so it's no surprise that he had a high powered legal team that stepped in to make sure that these charges didn't result in serious charges for hammer serious prison time essentially he had enough money to make this all go away so back in two thousand seven the US attorney's office in Miami which was then led by Alexander Costas who is now trump's labor secretary and his office had actually prepared a fifty three page indictment against that steam esteemed high powered lawyers which included their show it included Ken Starr intervenes behind the backs of the victims in this case so we have a situation where it is very powerful man with his all star legal team is collaborating with the US attorney's office with prosecutors to downgrade these charges on the other side you have victims that come you know they're vulnerable they come from under privileged family situations and esteemed attorneys made it out so they weren't credible at all I mean they created das Sears on the victim they provided the victim's social media pages that perhaps indicated drug user just had unseemly photos or things like that and so you know they not only attacks the victims in the case and there were allegations that I've seen sent people to follow the victims and to follow the victims families that Alexander costs that his bed in the past in a letter that he's written that prosecutors were under attack that they were looking for different peccadillos of prosecutors that could be exposed so it seems from the outside that prosecutors just wanted to get this deal done the US attorney's office now says well many of the victims in the case received a settlement from I've seen they didn't have to pay for their attorneys and you know I guess the US attorney's office thought it was okay that Mister Eckstine pleaded guilty to two state charges and ended up serving a year in jail and as you said that jail time was pretty laughable I mean he's in the private wing of the county jail and most of that time was spent on work release so it really is a miscarriage of justice that deal also shielded any co conspirators who may have helped arrange the girls coming to his places a lot of people are kind of sweat it right now because Once again, here's correspondent, Alex stone. October is normally the end of the Atlantic hurricane season things began to wind down, but not in two thousand eighteen it was October tenth when hurricane Michael came barreling ashore, it hit grown incredibly quickly slamming the coast of Florida as a category four the wind was bad. But the storm surge was even worse taking out buildings and making vehicles. Vanish we go back now to October tenth is hurricane. Michael Hitler, Florida, panhandle. In Panama City Beach, Florida where hurricane Michael is. Now, Michael the monster a category. Four storm bearing down on this barrier island with one hundred forty mile an hour winds more than a foot of rain the possibility of tornadoes and a storm surge that could reach thirteen feet in some places along the coast. It is a monster of a storm hurricane Michael just a few hours away from hitting the Florida, panhandle. Governor Rick Scott says the time to get out of the way is pass. Worst thing you can do nows leave and put yourself and your family endanger already the most powerful storm ever to hit the Florida, panhandle. Hurricane Michael continues to grow even stronger. There's now a concern Michael Mike become a category. Five storm. That means. Wind speeds topping one hundred fifty miles an hour with one hundred fifty mile an hour winds. Hurricane Michael's closing in on Florida's panhandle. ABC's Pete combs is in Panama City beach power is starting to flicker here. We're starting to see a lot of debris falling out of the trees. As many of these tall. Pine trees are being. That sideways by the wind. The rain coming in sideways now as the wind continues to blow harder and harder with every ban that comes through hurricane Michael has made landfall on Florida's panhandle with one hundred fifty five mile an hour winds. I just saw something I have never seen in real life. I've seen it on video, and I have seen it in a three D graphics that we made to describe storm surge I saw an entire home taking off of its foundation and rolled down the street. That is the type of storm surge we're talking about two -nificant pieces of debris in parts of buildings. Now, ripping off of the building and flying through the air SUV's were literally lifting as huge pieces of rooftops. Literally flypast the front window Ariza, no break and these wind gusts keep getting stronger and stronger we were.

"Protect your little ones with the extradition temporal scanner President Trump took time to wish happy thanksgiving to troops stationed around the globe over the phone this morning honored to be joined on today's call by great patriots. You are really great patriots representing each Brad. Branch of the American armed services Malani and I want to express our profound gratitude for the extrordinary sacrifices. You make to defend our nation. The president also taking the Twitter this morning. A couple of tweets denouncing a district judge's ruling prohibiting his order that claims of asylum can only be made by those who enter the US through valid points of entry. Bob Costantini reports. That later speaking with the media, the president indicated a willingness to get tougher with migrants and with congress the migrant caravan, and there were attempts to seek asylum in the United States front and center on the president's mind. Again, we find that it's it gets to a level where we are gonna lose control over people are going to start getting hurt. We will close entry into the country for a period of time until we can get it under control. The whole border. I mean, the whole border along the border politically speaking at least some government funding runs out in a couple of weeks with the president once again threatening to hold firm for what he wants the wall is just a part of border secure very important for probably the most important part. But could there be a shutdown certainly could and it will be about border security? Bob Costantini, Washington. Meanwhile, Republicans on the House Judiciary committee issued subpoenas to officials including former FBI director James Comey and former attorney general Loretta Lynch. Correspondent Laura Jarrett says the Republicans want private depositions from Lynch in Komi as they investigate the actions of the FBI and the two thousand sixteen lack homey was subpoenaed late last night along with the former attorney general Loretta Lynch Komi firing back right away this morning saying that he's happy to sit down for a public hearing as he said in the past, but he's resisting a closed door thing. "Know, I have to be very very guarded with what I say because of the climate. We're in today. There's no such thing as freedom of speech anymore that went out the window. It's only freedom of speech, if you're the president of the United States or no freedom of the press go he's the only one who can say any idiotic thing that he wants to. And it's a okay, no pin though penalty. No, nothing. Man. Do what you wanna do is still remain president. You can bring women over to your house when you wife or you can point to room, that's Malani Israel. You can do whatever you wanna do. And you can just get away. You can tell you can touch a woman p you can do that you can make people make fun of people's disabilities during a speech. You can make racial slurs. You can call native American women Pocahontas. You can like people on both sides, whether they're skinheads and clan member light, you can say the great people on both sides and steal beat the president. That's an alarming thing. But for the rest of us, there is no freedom of speech. There's no you can say what you want to say without penalty because everybody gets penalized except the president the president is already came out and talked about one of the accusers of Cavanaugh said, well, she was drunk. She said that. I mean this dude. Just fires. All yeah. She had it. She was drunk with nothing can happen to you. I'm not in that position. Something can happen to me. So I have to be very guarded with everything I say the tragedy in this is it there were so many women affected by this. Yeah. Tragedy. Yeah. It was just it was just too many the number was too high. You can't even I mean one is too many. Yeah. One one is too many, especially when you're the victim. Right. One is too many and as much as he is an icon to us and how they went about. It is is tragic also many levels that so many women have had to endure and.
