SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey says “critical decisions” will be made later this month

"Has been a much anticipated day. When it became known that the SEC was going to meet in person, in Birmingham, today it had been a regular scheduled meeting, but regardless it was extraordinary. It is now over the SEC has just released. A statement! Saying that no decisions were made today about the upcoming college football season. We hope to get more on that from the Commissioner of the southeastern. Conference Greg Sankey, commissioner? Thank you very much. I know it has been. A Very Long. Day Good afternoon. Has Been that and right from a meeting to the Finebaum show what could be a better way to cap a busy busy Monday. Well I, we've all we've I've I've read your statement about Hoping to gain more information or Waiting at least. To the end of the month and I'm curious based on what you have been saying. In terms of the prospects of the season and the concerns and the fact that things. You said the other day you, you're running out of time to correct things What are you looking for? And what are you? What is your conference looking for over these next two to three weeks? That will help you. Identify the proper decision to move forward. There are any number of. Opportunities to learn which is the way we've always viewed What was it play out, so we'll go back to April. One of the guiding points and I think I've shared with you this. This comment from one of our faculty members is take as long as you can to make major decisions because you will have better information. so my comments last week over the weekend on Mardian McGee or an indication that the trends. Are Not what we desired not what we had experienced a bit earlier in the summer very much in the wrong direction, and that that's problematic. That doesn't mean that's the finish line. Things will never change. We've seen the news around cove in nineteen. alter itself in different ways over a number of weeks. And so what we've identified, it is an opportunity in late July. foreign important check in the see what our public health reality, so that's one big picture element. We were told from the beginning. Take as much time as possible. You make better decisions we've also. Experienced since June eighth the ability to support our student athletes and a very healthy way, within our athletics, programs or other activities that are permitted today, more that could come for most program beginning, July twenty fourth, which NCAA is permitted third point, the autonomy, five conferences have been working diligently now for weeks and months to develop a common testing expectation. Expectation an isolation expectation. The NCAA after the Senate Commerce Committee hearing in which I participated in Washington DC has been engaging in developing similar standards for its entire membership, but his worked collaboratively over the last eight or nine days I think we're moving towards a destination for those protocols and I know that we as five conferences have been working diligently our. Our colleague conferences at the bowl subdivision. Or awaiting those other others in Division One are also waiting those expectations. The fourth is all it's happening. In the return of sports at the professional level over the next few weeks, so we saw major league soccer I watch more major league soccer last night than I. Ever have in my life, but I've read their protocols. Major League Baseball's active. That's A. First Pitch I think July twenty third where teams are going to be moving around. We've read their health protocols. A NASCAR race Wednesday, that is in a what was a football stadium several years ago in Bristol Tennessee with thirty thousand fans in attendance first time to see a larger crowd if that opportunity still exists so all of those are important learning opportunities, but the fundamental is my first point, which is we have to see? See a change in public health trend to build the comfort that will have an opportunity to compete this fall and plenty of people can say Oh, you shouldn't. It's not going to happen. Make predictions, and they go back to Governor Cuomo in June. WHO said I'm done with predictions. I'm done with models. We're GONNA. Look at the facts, and that's what we've been doing diligently for months now and we'll do over the next few weeks. Commissioner Greg Sankey with this commissioner. Last week we saw a one of your colleagues in the big ten. make his decision their decision about. Playing Only Conference Games to the PAC twelve followed suit I'm certain. That was discussed today, can you? Can you enlighten us on where the SEC is on all conference play? we are not at that destination in a number of our colleague. Conferences are not at that destination, so the big ten made its decision. We have no. common games with the big ten conference this year. Just one of those realities in our schedule, so the the impact of their decision is indirect,

Sports on the Sidelines

"Has been postponed that was march eleventh when an announcer called off the Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz game. Just before tip off. Most of US remember that day it was the day. President trump announced the travel restrictions from Europe. The day Tom Hanks and read a Wilson said they had tested positive for Kovic nineteen and the day the NBA suspended the rest of the season after Rudy. Gobert the Utah Jazz Center head tested positive for the virus. You may remember go bare as the player who touched all the microphones at a Utah Jazz media event as a prank. He didn't know he was positive at the time and later apologized for it. I'm a huge basketball fan myself so I was crushed when I heard the news of the NBA suspension. But of course public health comes first to me that really was the watershed moment in the entire. Corona Virus Cova nineteen conversation and not just sports but in our culture. Christine Brennan has been covering sports for three decades. She says she hasn't seen anything like this in her entire career. I think it woke the nation and the world frankly up to the significance and the seriousness of the corona virus pandemic after the NBA suspended season. It was like a domino effect. Major league soccer in the NHL have suspended their seasons for now while Major League. Baseball is hoping to open season in May according to ESPN and the NCWA cancelled it spring and winter championships as a wolverine go blue. I love March madness. It's one of my favorite times of the year. I even had tickets to the final four this year so I was really disappointed when that didn't happen but the threat to our health and safety was too great and it wasn't just the safety of the fans it was for the safety of the athletes to eleven thousand. Olympians expected to compete in Tokyo. This summer had their plans. Put on. Hold the Twenty Twenty Summer Games now postponed until twenty twenty one. The Games have been canceled three times before. But this is the first time they've been postponed and of course even a date. That far ahead doesn't come without concerns. Christine Brennan told me well we in the summer of two thousand twenty one. We'll people feel comfortable. Flying on planes overseas will the Japanese fans feel comfortable being in big stadiums and the answer is over and over experts. I've talked to. We have no idea. We just do not know but by that point of course a lot of these. Olympic athletes will have lost months and months of training. I just don't think we know yet and I think that uncertainty is so difficult for athletes. Consider that Olympic athlete. Their whole lives for this one moment. I was hardly know just as we train for for almost a year to two years. Just make the Olympic team. That's odd the beater Amman. An Olympic distance runner twenty twenty was the fifth time he's qualified at forty three. He's also the oldest American to run the marathon in the Olympics. You know before before the device you have a goal does the one thing you have like road races coming up you. Have you have something to get ready for this time? Everything's on the air. I just training just to stay fit and the sports world isn't just waiting on the sidelines. In the midst of the Pandemic Major League Baseball is now participating in a nationwide Corona Virus Antibody Study League employees spouses and players volunteered to participate to help give a better understanding of how prevalent this virus really is so I go is not to get an obese specifically back to work go in our research is really to get a bit of understanding of what the true prevalence looks like across the nation. I spoke with Daniel Lichner. The president and lab director of the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory. They were great pot down in a great organization because the head nationwide coverage that we could access individuals that were I seem to matic regular part of the general population. You know from team owners all the way down to hotdog vendors and be sales people on Game Day and everything in between you're looking at the MLB it sounds like sort of a microcosm then of the country Representing different demographics of our country. Can Can you talk me through how it was administered? Then in how quickly then did they get results? Some people could do drive-thru program where they have a bunch of their technicians. Physicians trainers and the Individuals with the drive through. Stick their finger out the window get fingerprint can get the result literally in a matter of minutes and it seems like most people would fundamentally want to know. Then am I now essentially immune can I get infected again? I think which too soon to say what that immunity looks like now. The federal government is slowly making plans to reopen the country. As I said earlier president trump has asked major league sports commissioners to be apart of that conversation the commissioners have a tough job. They're weighing a lot of things. In making the decision of how in win to get back to work commissioners work for the owners and their league and and the owners are going to want to start playing. They're going to want to start making money again. They're not liking the losses the financial losses that they're taking of course no one is the commissioners also have to weigh the very significant health risks. Not just for the players and their families and the referees and the coaches and the TV people and the and the media people But also the fans in the stands. And if you're drawing people into a stadium and if it becomes a corona virus hotspot and all of a sudden explodes. That is the fear of every commissioner in every sport you open up too soon you bring people together and all of a sudden you have another corona virus bomb sports says we know it may not be the same for a long time the NFL draft. Which starts tonight. We'll be held. Virtually for the first time as was the WNBA draft last week. The League plans to start its regular season in September and the draft helped set that into motion. Here's NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in an interview with ESPN. Obviously it's a different year for all of us. We had to make modifications in our offseason program We've had to make significant changes to our draft And those are all appropriate and their right to do. And we you know part of what this is about is continued to work from home by-product from home continue to do things we're supposed to do and be prepared. There's also the possibility that spectator less sports will become the new normal Christine Brennan predicts that will happen at the PGA men's golf tournament when it comes back in June and the masters in November. We could see an a masters without spectators. And that's GonNa look very strange to a lot of people. Although my prediction here is that within a couple of days of watching some of these sports events. If you watch a baseball game without spectators day is not gonNA look a strange the next day and by the third or the fourth day. You're going to be totally used and you're just going to be happy. You're watching baseball again. I think sports is walking a very fine line. It's kind of a tight rope. We want sports back. It'll make people happy it'll signal this openness that maybe we're we're coming out of this and yet you don't WanNa move too fast. Olympic runner of the Bearman thinks that the twenty twenty one Olympics will be a history making record breaking year. But I think he's GonNa going to unite us. I'm just GONNA have so much energy like a lot of things. Going every athlete winner represent contract because they know what their country went through so everybody wanted to do when do their best Magic Johnson also remains hopeful America. All of us who live in this great country that we live in. We need sports especially in a time like this but only if everybody is safe

"A starter for for wounds leah cooperate operate but i think there's also cases of a paul areola where he was playing in mexico kinda not really playing going on loan to other league mckee's teams getting shot with dc united playing absolutely out of his mind to major league soccer and was gregg berhalter starting left wing choice for for the national team in the gold cup and for previous games up until that point and obviously yes there's a there's a much different talent gap between paul arriola woah and weston mckennie where their potential may be at the end of the day. I think western than i think multiple degrees weston's is much more but for each player it's different. I think that we've seen the growth of major league soccer and if we want to have a guy like tyler adams played two years year impress and go overseas the europe. I'm completely for it. I don't think that are starting eleven for the u._s. Men's national team should be all m._l._s. guys but it shouldn't be all guys playing in europe as well. There is a a an advantage to having us have starters playing in major league soccer now and i totally agree. It's one of those finicky things well yeah but they're gonna actually get starting starting time over here and get better if they go to europe. Sometimes these guys don't get the starting time and they kind of fall to the wayside so i think it is an interesting conversation in that it is exciting seeing these young guy a lot of them in the bundesliga now in the premier league again not that we haven't had a great americans in the premier early the final last last question. Tom has the m._l._s. moved from the stigma or stereotype of a retirement league for these old players in europe. I'd like to hope so but i think that there's that's that stigma is still there for people who don't pay attention to major league soccer that people that's stigma is still there for people who the only thing they ever see about major league soccer is a wayne rooney's in the league ebrahim of inches in the league and those lot don scored a hat-trick last week are s players are not blocked on our wayne rooney. Are they very good. Are they absolutely dominant ballers on the field yeah without a doubt but you look at carlos bela a mexican international. A guy came over year arguably in the prime of his career. You look at all these young south americans that we have developing implying absolutely incredible minutes major league soccer you look at all the young americans we have like a paxton comical. Who's shouldn't be on f._c. Dallas next season because f._c. The dow should sell them for a ton of money this next on this next off season for major league soccer so it's not a retirement league. If you think it's a retirement league it's because you're not watching arching games and paying attention to the league and that's my final statement on that are at tom. I feel called out but that's fine. I'll call it outdoor and you're and you keep calling the v._m. List it's just major league soccer. Oh god yeah <hes> dave from bro. "Had that chance to test your metal in Europe. When you see the development of players, what would you advise speed guys? That are okay. Seventeen sixteen seventeen years of age and contemplating moving to starting in Europe or starting at professional career. And maybe missing out that time in college. I think that's a huge advantage. You know, I value education. So I'm not opposed to guys that that rather that I I think it's a huge pillar when you're talking about life and just learning how to live and in today's society, but our Masako standpoint, I also kind of wish I had the chance to go at the fifteen fourteen year old go there learn what it's like there instead of going there and eighteen or nineteen, you know, where you lose the time and kind of, you know, putting yourself in that environment like like a Christian pulisic, like these these young guys that we see go over that very young ages and already at eighteen or signing professional contracts. I think that's a huge advantage. Obviously if you're able and you have the opportunity, but I think every player is different no ways the right way. And I think it matters from player to player in terms of you know, what path they take. Now, I'm very curious about this diversity thing because us on the. Max and Eric podcast. We've we've covered diversity quite a bit. The Jonathan Gonzales story and representation matters. And how US soccer needs to kind of go outside of his umbrella. And look at different maybe neighborhoods, and then sectors that maybe can't afford the pay to play and all these different things that come with it. Then you have Eddie Johnson comes out, and whether his comments were correct or not he shed some light on of the may be important to see in your opinion is US soccer Major League Soccer doing enough in these undeserved or under a resource communities. I think more can be done. Certainly I think there's a lot of talent that is on top growing up playing in south, south, Florida. I grew up a lot of a lot of Latino kids a lot of Caribbean kids who are incredible talents. But it's difficult for those kids to get seen kind of and get those opportunities. So listen United States have picked country. It's a big task. And so I think the US soccer analysts can improve. And I think they know that and I think it's a conscious effort, and you know, there's a lot of peace. To the puzzle. But I think attracting, and and and and and center fine more kids that are more diverse that kind of have this game kind of bread and butter in their culture, if we can get those kids to start playing soccer and start getting these kids more opportunities. I think he can only help better soccer across the board in our country. You have a busy calendar through the season. Whether it's national team, whether we are obligate the way the way Major League Soccer changed their schedule here and make a little more compact about the international dates are going to be honored Shirley in the summer. How how do you view that as an advantage or Do do you you like like? our leagues always changing, which is which is fun and exciting? And I think the format now I actually puts a lot more episode on the regular season. So you know her played in the league there are times or fixtures. Where you look at we can send a team there and send Senate team there. I think now you look at every game now and you need to play your best team and try to win every game. And try to get every point matters. Now as you don't wanna be a team going into the playoffs having play on the road every every match. So I think it will be interesting season for a number of reasons with respect to that..

"You saw us here in Los Angeles right now. Oh, we on. We are on now. Okay. So we're at Melissa media days. And this is a great time. I really look forward to it. I wanna speak on your behalf. I'm sure you do too because we get to really prime up on Major League Soccer. There's a players are here. The coaches everyone involved with the league it comes through these doors. It's here in Los Angeles. So you have a good time. Most of the players are very accommodating. Yes. I heard there's an issue with Dom Dwyer. He got all kinds of divo-. What's really? Yeah. Been reading about it. I hope that's not the case. Because Dom always been an awesome guy to us. But he apparently that was the case. We'll give him the benefit of doubt. Let's say maybe he's a misunderstanding. Hopefully, you've oh, yeah. Like the band like amount whippet whippet male term for diva. Oh, ill Ildiko ill diva. All right. So we have a really cool podcast. Call him that by the way. Okay. No. You just brought it up. Yeah. Breaking news. We have a nice show for you. Here. We're going to sit down right here with Josie outdoor. We're going to talk with only Kamara of the galaxy as well have another podcast was he said, you know, I never did. You did just please. This is absurd. I can I finish. Sure. So, unfortunately, one of the things fortunately, and unfortunately because it was a very special night. The memorial service resumed Schmidt happened on Friday, we arrived Thursday. We'll go through the weekend. So it was here in Manhattan beach about twenty miles from where we are right now. And. Me personally, I knew I was going wanted to attend. And thankfully, the we're I was able to do that. And I was expecting a big turnout. And when I got there, I it was overwhelming. It was the word her Chilver whelming, which was filled, and you looked around and there were people that, you know, working in this or playing in this sport for the last twenty years, folks you recognize and it was just an outpouring of relationships, and and almost cathartic to see guys that you hadn't seen in ten fifteen years. I mean coaches. Players that you play. I mean, just one was such a overwhelming out of body experience. It was a time capsule last thirty five forty years, and what is college soccer professional soccer with Major League Soccer and US national team. And to see the amount of just love and social players broadcasters administrative where I saw picture with three US, men's nationally and coaches ex US, MS axioms coaches, Steve Sampson, you know, Bob, Bradley, Bruce Arena. Had all types of ex players, whether it's collegiate levels professional levels national team level, it just anybody and everybody who's CD somehow touched all along the way touch the lives along the way was there to show their support for Valerie as wife, and then Kyle and their family, and I was a little over weld seen so many people together because I don't think you can get that many people in a room to say they like me alone, come to my service. And I'm saying the most respect it was really overwhelming. And I know you had a few instances where you knew ciggie, I played preceding he'd getting my opportunity when I was nineteen and when things got rough towards the end of my career, he gave me an opportunity to come back in my career the right way. And I will always be grateful for that. Like a lot of players city. Had this rocky road of a relationship. You know? Nineteen and he told me that I should look for another profession in for for a lot of years. I resented Ziggy for that not understanding of this is just business, and then I play wasted that you. Yeah. Not understanding. And it's just too cold truth. You know at times he has to coach estimate harsh decisions in when he cuts Uni. He says, listen, maybe you need to start thinking about other things in your future. I took it the wrong way. And and then I became a player and played in Mexico and played against Sounders. And you know, a couple of times I took shots at at Sigi on air, and it wasn't until after that would speak..

"When you care enough. You can change the world. It shows a bunch of like parents with their kids and they're getting all emotional because they're so proud of him. Shows the hallmark logo care enough. So suites. Aw, tear it up watching it. I've been on a Fred Rogers kick keep saying, Dr Rogers. I don't know why say it so many times, Dr Rogers. But Mr. Rogers my kids getting into it. I start watching videos online. It's it's fascinating to see how he controlled the timing of his show, you'll be so intentional in the way. He'll do things on there. And they'll leave all the mess ups in there. They don't record anything. He'll he'll sometimes take two or three opportunities to try to zip up his sweater. He'll miss like he's trying to get these fumbling in the leave it all in there with him fumbling with this. They're wasting all this time. And he's trying to get a zipper up. There was an interview I watched with Joan rivers filling in for Johnny Carson, and the guests that night was Fred Rogers, and he came out in Fred Rogers was Fred Rogers is exactly how you saw him on air. He was like that in real life. And it was really disarming to people. They didn't understand how someone could be like that. He was just so different than any other celebrity. They knew he would just so gentle, so caring even mentioned Joan rivers daughter, Melissa. That also became popular after they did the red carpet stuff in the future. But he was even asking about her by name in knew who she was which was pretty remarkable that he cared that much. How many times do you talk about the person that's interviewing you about their kids unprompted? You know? How is she doing things? You know, did she have any issues because he he talks about some of the episodes? They worked on the episodes like getting sucked down the drain in the bathtub. You know things. That's kids worry about that. You don't think about it as being a big deal? But a kid may have a hard time with getting a haircut for the first time going to the dentist going to the doctor whatever it is. There's all kinds of different episodes that Fred Rogers dealt with and Joan rivers asked him. Do you get any hate mail? Might be the best question. I've ever heard an interviewer ask someone to Fred Rogers. You get any hate mail back in the eighties. When the interview was conducted, probably not two thousand eighteen how much heat meal. Do you think a Mr. Rogers would get isn't that sad to think? It's so sad to think that all right. So last week, I think it was on Friday by a vote of twenty six to to the Saint Louis board of alderman passed a non-binding resolution in support of a Major League Soccer stadium in downtown Saint Louis. This is a good thing. Yeah. So it looks like we're going to soccer stadium. Right. I don't know. What else? This group has to do in order to appeal to Major League Soccer. They mention that in a couple of weeks. I think the Commissioner is supposed to come to town for a visit. And then the board of governors for Major League Soccer will meet in mid December. So who knows the Commissioner of Major League Soccer? Is in town could be who knows president Don Garber is name a soccer team. Isn't it? Don, Garber sounds like an old timey going door to door the briefcase and wearing a plaid suit type deal, Don Garber, but he is going to visit. And now that they have the city on track. They have the Taylor family. Jim Cavanaugh, the worldwide technology ready to finance this thing. They have all of these different stumbling blocks that they in the past that made it so we were actually passed up. But now we don't have to worry about the because it's all privately funded. There's the tax breaks that they're going to get from the land, which they're doing nothing with in Major League Soccer just has to make the right decision. They have a female lead team in minority owned team female minority. I should say no female majority owned team, which is the first for Major League Soccer. You don't see that in other sporting? Major league professional teams either is very appealing location here in Saint Louis. They got a great opportunity if they don't pull the trigger here if they don't do this here for Saint Louis. I don't know what it'll take to get a Major League Soccer. I'd be so turned off by Major League Soccer. I I would hope they never come here if they skip Saint Louis after all of this you raise your hand. And you say what else do we have to do come on? You know, what came elax did? Because the professional teams will be on its way they posted people to give some suggestions for the best team names for the upcoming XFL team. We have Major League Soccer and XFL here. Wouldn't that be something? So what should we call? The next team. Social media said the T Ravs CRT said, toasted ravioli ravioli, snack got turned down. My suggestion would be the gooey butter cakes would be a great team name. I'd love the gooey butter cakes. The merchandising along the river men carjackers, oh, come on. Now. Saint Louis Brown's Saint Louis history there you can go back anti-reforms. Silverbacks? Football make football face. Okay. The Saint lunatics the pride in Saint Louis dental would be honored to receive the name of his former rap group. The blue birds have the redbirds, and then the stallions was the last one people were really high on that stallions recommendation because that was what they were actually looking at seemingly overnight NFL decided Jacksonville. Would get a team and not seeing Louis back in the day. But the XFL would bring back the old school logo that might be a big plus there, I think it's a good thing to have both Major League Soccer and the XFL here. I think it's going to be a great thing for Saint Louis. In fact, I did my blog on it this week. It'll be posted ten AM. I'm more dot com. And you'll be able to get it right there. Let's put a mic real quick is calling endless the sneak this in before the break. Hey, mike. What's going on? About the soccer team. I'm one hundred percent Florida. I think it'd be good for the city Lewis raise for and I'm going to both when he runs for the president alderman your name. I will give them the survivors. And the reason I say survive they'd be so good. They survive and just end up being awesome winning team survivors. I kind of like that. You know, there's a team down south. I think it was an Alabama the scrappers I got one of their t shirts, and I liked the scrappers. It's kind of like that. You know, you do everything you can to stay alive. I like that. Ryan. It'd be good for me too. And I think it'd be good for the city. I think it would help jobs. I think it'd be a great thing for the city. I guess the XFL will be picking the team names presumably because they are the owners of the teams. So the off to message Vince McMahon. Yeah. Something you mentioned that made me think of my gospel song. It's funny that you said it, but about soccer, you talk about this, stumbling blocks. Well, I've got a song I made a stomach blossom Facebook, you don't see my pitcher, Mike and people love I get a lot of like sport as a sound guy j years ago without my pitcher did not play guitar, you know, how to do. Tune strange except I had ribbon and everybody likes it. But this dumb block, stumbling blocks, but you mean ribbon. What do you mean ribbon ribbon to the guitar? Okay. Yes. Stumbling block the song I've written with my own words last night ride. My just saying that what year. I don't know. I it's on Facebook live, and I get a lot of likes for. Good. Facebook post out of seven senior Facebook. I'm not on Twitter. But yeah, a lot of people like myself face. You know, I don't spend a ton of time on Facebook. Mostly. I'd spend time on Twitter is just I enjoy that platform more. But who knows where Twitter's going they're kinda shooting himself in the foot right now. All right. Hey, mike. On Facebook, take care. Bye. Bye. I don't know. It's hard to hard to decipher any good things, anymore and social media. All right. So I wanted to play this for you over in the UN. You wanna know why we have issues with the United Nations is because of this criticism of migration will become a criminal.

"I have a lot of respect for what they did in your one. It. It's pretty remarkable that the atmosphere, you know, the team performance and hell I got to hold the falcon when I went to the game. So thanks to Tom at like their owners allot, you know, Larry, and Brandon, and you know, all those guys they're they're good guys. First of all I brought that up to give some content. Podcast every time every hey, I'm gonna paraphrase right now. But I remember the first time we had you on here. There was the possibility of a coaching position within the Portland timbers. And you called it the premier coaching job in Major League Soccer. I watch I said I thought it was I think that participate specific Ness one of the highest pressure jobs. No says visibility. We are. Okay. I'll take that too. We'll we'll check Dr we'll go back and check the town. But, but that's not the point when I'm trying to get to his you gave it to a guy that came from the NSO a guy that was an unknown at unheard of us, my colleague on ESPN deport I was calling gains with them. I couldn't have been more proud when you gave him the opportunity because then you the type of coach in person, he was I myself when I was in Mexico almost signed with the Cosmo's from there, just because I believe in this guy's vision, any just enormous wealth enormous wealth of knowledge, what did you see any him to give him the premier coaching job in the country? He's he's. You know, this is well as I do haven't worked with him he to to rate GO on the charisma scale. I mean, he's off the charts and and such big time magnetic personality and a genuinely good human being in a good person whose whose team oriented collaborative and it's not all about him. And I think that. You know, here's a guy who coached big names, Raul. And you know, I mean, yeah, he was coming from the NSL. But this is a guy who knew MLS really well was a legend with the MetroStars. And I mean that would be a great storyline. Right. If we go to if rebels win and we win and and she'll goes back to New York for that for that game. -solutely? I you know, we did a deep dive. And we looked at it guys. Who are you know, maybe bigger names, but he just pops. So clearly during our search, and it was the right hire. He was really he was oh and five and he sat Liam ridge. Well, he sat the Nando ATI. I mean, anybody who crossed wasn't on board at any time. Not make you nervous. I mean, he made some big decisions. And look I mean, there's there's like anything there's a deeper story all that stuff. So, you know, especially with with lamb, but he's not afraid to make make big decision. And you know, there's there's no question about it. And and guys got big balls. And quote as Ozzie, but but at the same same time, it's not all about him. You know, it's kinda fun environment working showing up at the office for everybody right now. And people feel really connected players feel connected. And that's that's that's terrific thing. This has been a fun season. And I mean, he I tell you I felt for them when we got off to that Owen five star. I got I got find, you know, for the first time in a while talking about Twitter when we one of those games we lost because we were in Orlando up two zero call that game that was it was a PK a phantom PK, and you guys let lead his crazy. Yeah. There were some there are some interesting calls down the stretch. And it was more. My, you know, trying to take some attention away from geo- there that would have been a big game for us. But fifteen game on beaten streak is no joke and he's got the team riding high and playing well in the playoffs. And you know, so it's. It's been a joy working with him. And he's he's is good coach. He is. He's even a better person. You've had some very savvy moves right at the top Diego Valeria locating talent that has broken through and become the figure of this team as long as they've been a Major League Soccer when you look at how teams are build look moving head..

"He worked at Macy's worked at the Major League Soccer, which I met in your just a more of just a of developer, right? Maybe still a manager but worked on a drug land a single product or a suite of products. Right. Yeah. Yeah. My my roles kind of broad like even though I'm an engineering manager. We don't have like tech lead on our team. So I'm kind of that as well. I'm still executing like doing dachshund for structure stuff. So I'm still definitely engineering as well. Sure. So let's say a project came along that you had to build something for somebody. What is like the perfect situation for you like what would your role be? What would that client be? Or what would that product be in? Who would you be working with if anybody that kind of thing? Do you think about that? Every like, what's what's the perfect project for you? Yeah. I mean now that I like, I guess in some ways like, our documentation developer content is. Is a project. But I guess like if I'm, you know, trying to put myself more in the role of what I used to do is you I engineer I'm working on a project. I would hope that we would be able to use react in graph q Algis because I don't think I would ever build an app without them at this point. So. Sylvia. So I guess kinda taking the role of you. I engineer I think I would really want people that probably are comfortable, you know, kind of diving into like building a graft y'all server, but also comfortable kind of working on react components, and that sort of thing I definitely wanna person on my team. Who is awesome? It's because I am not. So I would I would love to have someone you know, who's who's great at that. Definitely someone who is an accessible specialist because I think that's so important like a group of specialists, though, sounds like where you're headed. Yeah. Yeah. I like I like the idea of group of specialists, but I also like people who are super flexible too, like when I was a u I engineer at Major League Soccer. "Fifteen eighteen number right? Yeah. For sure I mean, I it would be like this Ken. The biggest league in the world is English Premier again. They have promotional allegation and. Teams are in the championship. And the top teams earn by one of the top three teams the opportunity to be promoted up and things, and if you just stay Pat with what you got into the English Premier League, you're going to be back and happy, and and so, you know, unfortunately, a part of this, and it's not the maybe the worst part of the job as we sit down and players, and we thank them for everything they've done to get us. But in order to be in Major League Soccer and be true to our values which is to be a winning team. We gotta make some difficult decisions. And in some cases, that means, you know, we'll be moving on from some of the guys that were tremendous players for this year in the US L and helped us go twenty five games without losing and win that regular season trophy. And along those lines. I mean, yeah. Sure. I mean, that's the hard part about this is cutting ties with players that have meant so much here. But on the other side, there's been a big movement against bringing an ageing European stars. I mean, Wayne Rooney came over here in questionably helped DC United get into the playoffs. Despite an otherwise lacklustre, author are you okay? Jeff. Yeah. Take a deep breath. I thought. Now, I'm just I'm agreeing with your point. We're not we're not looking to bring in the aging guys. Part of the plan. But like a guy like Tom he was great for the galaxy. So you're you're thinking hasn't changed about designated players from Europe. Right. Well, let let me say this. We we want. We want players who are either a offending and have quite a future ahead of them. Whether that, you know in FC Cincinnati is a part of their journey, and maybe that journey takes them to the top level in in Europe. So Atlanta's had I think some success that way. You mentioned rebels rebels have developed a lot of their players. They have a great youth academy. Obviously, the New York metropolitan area to be a feeder into their academy. So there's different ways to go about it. I think we tend to look at it. If some of those aging guys help build brand awareness in a market, and I think we have tremendous brand awareness in this market. So what we want is guys that helped us win games. Yeah. And and our media friendlier and out in the community. Yeah. Get all that. Chatting with Jeff Burton CEO of FC Cincinnati. You're also gonna get players from the expansion draft to right? I don't know. What is it five? You may get from the draft. So there's there's another nucleus. You can pull front. Correct. I mean, we we have scalps all over the world right now, literally traveling nonstop watching guys play watching guys train talking to the players talking to people on staff meeting with agents, and and we're allowed x number of international spots eight and and then there's people that are playing abroad that are American. So they don't count is international spot that we're bringing them home, and there's a handful of those and then as you noted and there's expansion draft where we'll take we have the opportunity to take five guys and those are players you. We anticipate will be proven players for Major League Soccer. I mean, I know I know what the inception of this team was you? And I talked a long time both on and off the air about the development of where you started from. And where you are right now. In your heart or hearts, when you shut the door at night, and you sit down, and you think about this where you're sitting in front of a roaring fire. Maybe with a DRAM buoy in your hand or something like that. Are you even shocked about how far this thing has come? Well, I guess the short answer is no, I'm not. I mean, this was always the plan. This was what Karl Leonard I intended. And we intended to do it in in our fourth year being Major League Soccer why because Orlando didn't five years in Orlando did it and five I think Cincinnati's better sports town. And so what we're gonna do it in four. But I'll be fair. I mean. You know, drawing twenty seven thirty thousand you know, what it was like to win the trophy and and Richmond and then have that on field celebration. The following Saturday in front of thirty one thousand people at Nipper. You know, what's been unbelievable? But this city was ready for this. You have twenty two goals Tennyson from slot on very much and the rest of company all Kamara alessandrini scientist journalists does these big name players in the last day of the season. You let it go. It's one of the most epic. I guess failures for an office Baylor's that you can pretty much count on in recent memory. Yeah. It really begs belief because he say some of those achilles heels of the galaxies coming home to roost and look like they had right? The ship of late and the donate connected. He was a hate spur. This team really wasn't. Team wasn't in. Listen, we're hearing a big question. Mark was his health when he came into Major League Soccer with the thirty six year old at the time have been physically capable enough with the day to day of Major League Soccer. He was coming off reconstructive knee surgery. He proved this all wrong. I think the over under for many was around fifteen goals. He can put me shattered that he put the galaxy on his back, but it proved to be too much of a big job or slot. Native introduced on his own. He really didn't get any help. From who you thought he was going to help the the of the world the boundaries of the world all Kamara even for double digit goals. He wasn't really the player who lived up the billing, especially at the side of here mentioned the big moments that he had I think we have seen the last of slots any Britt Hume, which I think one point five million per year. He realized his worth unless he gets massive payday. I think we studying the last image and Lalli galaxy jersey what you mentioned the LA galaxies loss ourselves gain. How might Pecci? They did was who would win the supporters shield United had the edge heading into final. But they lost heavily in Toronto. And that allowed the New York rebels to surpass them. The got what they needed with a one. They'll went against all Landau and wanting to cheapen hook. Full Kris Avas having taken over at this midway through the campaign from Jesse much. Not just Chris Armas, but the rebels organization the last six years they've won three supporters shield. We're talking about this. You're only thirty three goals against arguably a goalkeeper in your candidate and Luis Robles arguably to defender of the your candidates in Aaron long, and Tim Parker that centreback. Do you have the left the best left back in the league and Kemar Lawrence? You have the best defensive midfielder dill in Tyler Atta than Sean Davis. You sprinkle in there the playmaker that is Kaku. And what he can offer you. And then he prolific goal score. That is Bradley wright-phillips. And then you've mentioned it Chris Armas comes and takes over. "Welcome back to the show for forty six. John from our newsroom just handed me released from major league statement, Major League Soccer statement on Austin major league soccer's excited to move forward in Austin with Precourt sports ventures and their vision for Austin FC, regardless of the scenario and Columbus, there's a clear path forward for Precourt sports operate. Austin FC is a Major League Soccer club. While timing for Austin FC is still to be fine lies. We're confident that team will begin play no later than twenty twenty one at the new privately financed stadium and soccer park at McCallum place, aka little level. We applaud the Austin community city leaders and Precourt sports or their commitment to making this happen. That was the MLS statement on Austin. They talk about Columbus Major League Soccer. And the Columbus partnership have been working together for several months on a plan to keep crew in Columbus. They made significant progress racially the hassle and family along with the Columbus base Edwards family of joined the effort to keep the crew in Columbus. So there you have it they're keeping the crew in Columbus. And Austin gets a new franchise. Back to the phone lines to talk a little politics. And let's go to Michelle. Michelle, welcome. You're on kale BJ radio. Hi. Nice to actually keep talking with you too. On fanta. Jeff also, but he's coming. He's I saw him he entered the room. So he's coming in a little bit cranky the other day. So on all things for sure I on your name play how head yes. Went away from Rafael. Yes. But most people identify with cruise name Cruz, right and Beto O'Rourke is using his Robert Bell. And not using the Aurora. We'll Beto Beto has been called Beto since he was five years old by Stanley. I think Ted was too. Ten was known as Rafael till high school, and it will. So he spent better private life is that. But identity politics, I guess for for Robert doing the bed. Oh, I think that does kind of open the door because when I was just hearing the name, I assume, okay, maybe Hispanic. I I don't think I think it's probably benefit him benefited him in El Paso, Hispanic dominated insured Hampshire. It has sure no doubt about it out there. And and. I just to grab onto the name point. You were saying also, and let me say one more thing we've talked about this name deal. Because a because there was a Texas railroad Commissioner from Abilene who was a former county judge of Abilene who is Hispanic and Hispanic last name. He was a great. He's a great guy. He's he was running for reelection to the Texas railroad commission and did make it out of the primary because his last name was Hispanic. And that's the only reason he didn't win. Yeah. And I thought I figured you're. So those are actually the reason I call I grabbed onto that live. Okay. Go ahead. Go ahead. Yeah. But now it's to their benefit to have. I think Hispanic Ted Cruz and better and better not in the Republican primary. It's not for the Republican surname for they spent. After the primary mostly I called so down the middle not not saying one, Saturday other. But I was cooking in the kitchen. The first time I heard the debate between the one and only debate train crews and that oh, right? And the way he says intonations just came. I mean, I turn it exactly like Brock Obama, and I had to go to the screen and even his manner. He's definitely a as the origin that Obama. Okay. Annunciation canes. And my daughter called me by my my friends called me. That's that's bad. That's bad. And you're thinking, well, I think that that's part of when you were talking earlier about his charm, and the disorder that draw to his to his nature is it is orientation is it the unchanging as I think I think I think he's just a feel good candidate a lot of ways to a lot of people, you know, again again with people look at again when people look at the substance when people look at the policies, they say, yeah, you're a feel-good candidate. But I don't go along with your policies on on the border on abortion on oil and gas, and I think that's Worth Texas voters are going to look at this. And that's why I think he why Ted Cruz is in the lead because I think it's coming down to policy. It is coming down. How people think in Texas, and they're not a heck of a whole lot of people in Texas who would say, yeah, I like the idea of taxing every barrel of oil ten dollars. Yeah. I like the idea. Of out of not having fracking in the state. They're in that's their beliefs. But I think for the majority of Texas that doesn't fit in the realm of their policy, but who knows people may be, and I know people are inspired by about that. Oh, look at the crowds. He's gotten look at the crowds. He's gotten at look at the crowds. He's gotten in Williamson county, which has been a bedrock of Republican party politics. Maybe not so anymore because so many people are moving from Austin to live in the beautiful suburbs around round rock Leander and cedar park there. It's not all rock rib conservatives out there. It's people who've lived in Austin who may be more progressive look at the end j Henry who's running against John Carter, no political experience. She's the decorated military pilot. She's a mom, and she is given John Carter the race of his life the race of his life because she is the latest stat. She's painting him as a Washington insider, member the swamp. He's been there eighteen years. He's been there. Eighteen years as Lloyd doc. It's been almost thirty years. So if you have a competitive race in Texas. And even if you're an accumbens, and if your opponent can pay you as an insider, our as a member of the swamp, you gotta race on your hands. You gotta race on your hands and Ted Cruz. Every other year. This would be a gimme for the Republican. But Ted Cruz is running against the guy. He's very energetic, very youthful. Yeah. He's like Obama. He makes people feel good does that. So that's why Ted is in a very very difficult race four fifty three now on kale BJ, Jeff Ward and Clements afternoons three to seven on NewsRadio KLBJ five ninety AM and ninety nine point seven FM. If you're getting aches and pains from your mattress, of course, it's time to get another go to factory mattress to it either. That's where I got my Stearns and foster mattress. But what you need to do. First of all is tryout, right fit.

"Would go in the same spot as I propose near Union Station. The first step is to convince the league to grant Saint Louis and expansion team. So now that we're waiting on MLS to decide if we have what it takes to get one of the two remaining expansion franchises my question. And this is because I'm cynical. What are we going to do to mess? This up. Oh my gosh. My gosh. My gosh. That's a that's an excellent question. But a sad one that needs to be asked may maybe maybe not in those terms. Maybe it could be a little less harsh. But but seriously, what are we going to do to mess? This. I think that may be nothing. And the reason I would say nothing is because of who is involved because the Taylor family, and this women lead women majority led ownership group may be a different breed may be may have a different grasp of the situation and Bill McDermott told us last hour that that may play. Well, the fact that this is a women led investment group that may play well with Major League Soccer. So hopefully, the answers nothing did you hear my tone? Yes. So hopefully, and though, and though people can't see the look on your face, Mike and see the look on your face, and I get where you're coming from its it's cautious optimism. But you know, I I agree with you. It's it seems honestly honest to God, it seems like things are are different this time around mainly because different mainly because there's less of a much much less of an importance placed on public funding. "So I was out of LA this weekend for Major League Soccer. I was calling Orlando, Atlanta got to our Landau city stadium. Interesting to talk about it because we were discussing the fan bases in Atlanta. Orlando were very vocal on our Twitter thread from how about the worst fans thing. I'm still getting tweets about that a week later. You get a USA Breda's from anybody. I got like five of them. Oh. Awesome. Should we make t-shirt max in her? Nation are awesome. Asian anymore. No, we had to. We had to go to the VAR. I went too bar, but the reason I said that because it gets out at so bad coming out of my lips. When I said Elliot regretted it. I never use that word again, but stop it and then urban Meyer said, Buckeye, let's stop this. Chris Harrison of Major League Soccer. Bachelor. When you hear him say I cringe, it just sounds weird. Twenty him on. Sure. ABC is a Disney company and we are as well somebody, he's he's old soccer player. If you guys have a contact with Chris Harrison, I think. My name dropped like an Email. I know her. Well, she, no you. Yeah, she recognizes get lost. I've been on his say, do I know everybody because you know what I did and this Chris Harrison. No, I'm talking about it ESPN and the kids. This is great advice. If you ever get into into a big company or your first job, this is what you do. You walk around even if you're interrupting somebody tap on the shoulder and you say, hey, I'm is wanted to meet you. Okay. I just wanted to encourage you to do that and enlist rookie camp. I don't know if you remember that. Okay. Fifteen years ago. But, hey, I wanted to say the fans run. I really enjoyed unless Ritchie. ESPN camp apologies what? What is this? What does it mean by that are produced Marci just want to say that the fans, the fans situation. There was great Atlanta, Laura Landau fans, drinking and eating outside the stadiums. Downtown mentioned drinking by the way bars up Stu Arthur blank and again, lowering concession prices. Again, that's the way you do much. You get a beer for now, five dollars, five dollars dollars, revere five dollars. That's unbelievable. Drinking some cold suds fine. Give to be what they want along with an entertaining product, lower concessions. I don't like Atlanta. I don't like any team and now I wanna go and watch Atlanta every day for the record lowering. It's not gonna. Make people drink more. I know. For fact, you just want to know you're not gonna have your five fifteen mile. Would you drink more beer was cheaper yet. He's not across the board. You still be responsible and you have more money, your pocket for dot goes or whatever. I'll all right. I just wanted to say it was a, it was very cool to be there alongside Alejandro Modano and calling Joseph Martinez because it was a weird game because we knew that we had to prepare for it. And you were waiting for him to break the right. Well, I'll be perfectly honest. I didn't wanna blow it. So I wrote a sentence down that I wanted to say when he scored and put it away on a stack, no wonder, Orlando fans eight. You just in case I put it away actually when it started happening, I grabbed it just wanted to make she Martinez to score against Landau. Yeah. I wanted to call it would love to call it that now lives in history. That's great for me. I mean, you were there to my agent. We said that exactly where they're in the I listen. I said, in my tweet, you've been there from the beginning and it was very fitting that one of the prominent voices in American soccer doesn't matter how far you go back. Everybody knows that guy. Four AM three AM this calling Argentine first division games knows like the was like one am calling. The UEFA wasn't nothing for the fi fo literally rolling out the club, the Gokhale game. Yeah, I'd be in my sandals and a robe and a cigarette. So it was. It was it was fitting. It was very fitting that was very cool as much as our Landau fans. You and Alessandro because fans are fans that it was a cool moment. I wanted Orlando to win..

"Is, about, to, people, on the MLS. Franchise moving to Austin the stadium being built by the owner of the Columbus Crew blah blah blah all that stuff there's one quirky part of this because beyond. The local issues. Which sounds like it's all but. Done and that is he gets the land by the domain, years sixth, through twenty he pays five fifty a year he throws a bone of one hundred thirty affordable housing units. City council Gardiner throw another bone of donating money. To soccer clubs and stuff by an. Affordable housing and other charities the the MLS Major League Soccer owns the franchise these are really the epitome of franchisees so Major League Soccer technically owns the club In the individual. Owners are just the franchisees so the money is. Kind of pooled in case one of. The clubs I guess why the club's struggles Now it doesn't change it doesn't change. The particulars of of this. Deal just saying in terms of ownership it's actually owned by the MLS. And then he gets the franchise If the against the city can, look at it as reassurance that they're they're good for the money I think, that's, why MLS does it sort of everybody pool. Some cash the backup somebody who's failing who's. Failed, right, or help. Them get, out altogether sales here it's pretty bad businessman if. You'd asked, me yeah I I agree I mean although he's probably spending a lot more than anticipated I mean. He thought at one time it's a dollar now went up to five, hundred fifty thousand a year I mean that's hit All of a sudden he's building one. Hundred thirty apartment units I don't know that he. Ever anticipated doing that I know all of a sudden. He's donating to charities I don't know if that was part of, the welcoming soccer team and I tell you the one thing I couldn't find that. Still hanging out there Somebody's going. To have to build now the thousand parking spaces are. His two but somebody's going to have to build the infrastructure to, get in and out of that place I don't know who's going to do that Also cheap also the train. Station if it stops out there. Who's, gonna is he gonna be on the, radar we I'm not sure about that doesn't the train stopped pretty close it is but they're. Trying to have the train stop right there At the at the stadium The state is the fans and the people. Living in the affordable housing what's he gonna do. Go, get some train track no he's going to work with capital metro DeVille some type of station there Okay good luck. Buddy you just said I how could he fail. I'll, tell you fail you just we just read out a list of expensive Have a terrible? Team because he has. No money for pay went over the first six years He just Bill, state, yeah, yeah. Yeah. And I and in defensive everyone I assume he came back and said oh whoa whoa whoa Let me get some money coming, in I before I start paying you the five fifty and, he's? Going to if he. Has. Twenty. Five. To fifty thousand per year, something neighborhood Delo he does have to have, some, some, players. Right I mean they're not going to work for minimum wage I. Mean, my gosh she's already. Got. Assigned Cristiano Renaldo because KLBJ's already locked into a contract with Cristiano. Renaldo for the. Ed and Christiana show at twin peaks. Or having free let me tell you it's now twin peaks voters are blockers okay so it's a battle yeah so he's got to pay him on top of what we're paying you and Rinaldo I don't know how much twin peaks is going to pitch in for this deal But expenses are He better get some sky box money because he's he's. Paying a lot the typically. Owners don't pay that doesn't. Make it right I'm just saying that typically come in and they get. Everything they want they get. The red carpet they get everything paid, for this guy whether you agree that the city cut him, ADI or not He's paying. For things that ninety nine percent of, owners in professional sports do not pay for the stadium yeah Yeah. Well and infrastructure and everything else that's what I'm unclear of how much infrastructure is paying for I don't. Know If you had pay for anything it's I, don't. Know how you're going to get your car in there to park at the stadium only. Spots. At, that stage Jeff it's going to be at. Bone for for Ober and left and the, domain quite frankly yeah yeah I there's twenty twenty five. Games. Home, games it's not like the. Domain is hurting anyway but I mean if you're talking about. Twenty thousand people I'd I'd ramp up some Liquor business I'd go ahead and ramp that. Up. Even more where nearby okay I'm just saying liquor. Right In the, heat of standing out there it's going to be. Just, Margaritas on the role no I'm. Saying somewhere that domain share I know this, bars or, restaurants there now but you're you're going to wrap. It up and a half Fifteen thousand people in the neighborhood yeah Yeah And he's gonna want all of them to come at his, place but there'll be some people who never go the. Game we may just go the. Domain some of the hip bars over there and watch the game on. TV Why would you do that you can just go watch it anywhere Intel I want to go out there today said the sun almost one. Hundred, degrees bar, where it's cool and they're pretty girls and cold drinks yeah. I'm saying but you could go anywhere in town and probably do that you don't have to just go drive all the domain to be near the, stadium, to not go in, the stage where you do. Tailgating, come on man. You're going to tailgate never go the game possibly well that's lame. Will there are thousands who? Do that at decay are Texas memorial stadium In your. Car no they sit there intense outside the stadium and drink lame Sometimes? You better there. Than on the field I guess that's true. What am I I shouldn't criticize I'm a fool that pays for those tickets I by the six dollar bottles of water, to gamma gets you tap or six kids who wanna leave the second quarter. Like, every other thinking human being because the game is garbage I should be lectured. Anyone, right I would be much better off, standing by a car right out in their. Shields garden of actually going into that stadium. For the. Six hours. Of bad football? Bingo or be. Inside the extra centered on TV I stand. Corrected remind me of that in mid September when I load up all the kids to go well the first home game, is September eighth my friend with mighty the hurricanes of Tulsa But then again the next week it's USC and I, don't, think you want to buy six tickets to. The game starting it bring it up there's the b twenty I think there's twenty home games though in. Some, practice games whatever friendly's has had likes, to call them exhibition yeah stuff like that Okay. So last night at, the at the rally whatever that is a lot. Of, blank the media Cost of CNN says that I'm worried the hostilities are going to get, someone hurt we'll gentlemen concern those of us in the business know that if you disagree with people they.

"You're twenty five right now. You're a rock defense very said here that Major League Soccer in that in that position, maybe US gnashing down the road. I mean, it's all coming together and now you get to brush shoulders with now. I'm not talking about. I'm talking about some real stores some real stars as it really hits you. Yeah, I think it has. I mean in training. Today? I think it hit me more than more than any time before that, but wait when did it. I mean, just I passenger seeing some of these guys. You know that you play against every day. When you know you're scouting. Really? Okay. This guy is good. Watch out for this guy and I get to train with them and see that I touch and see that they're amazing qualities, you know in a in a possession drill, you know, it was really special. As a process of just really getting together and feeling like a team in all star games and every sport here they're more exhibition, but you're playing team here. It means a lot for Major League Soccer. We remember the games that they've beaten the past when they want beat by Munich. So when you guys get together as a collaborative affair, how much is that? We've got a, let's win for the league. Have you been sharing those kinds of stories at all? Not yet. No, not yet in the locker room? No, it's gotta chill. I'm sure it's gonna come from. Feel competed in Konkan Champions League and maybe deep down if you felt like there are people in a circle outside of Major League Soccer dome, give Major League Soccer, the respected desert. So no doubt. Do you feel like you have to kind of wave the flag for Major League Soccer and show up in these moments? Yeah. I mean, taught summer Tino said it today in the meat, and he's like, listen, we're going to go over a lot of things, but at the end of the day, we definitely want to win this game. So I mean, we did feel it. That guy cannot. I mean codes. Amazing. A lot of amazing before we go, we entered with Bradley, right? Where Did did a dance dance for. for us. Yeah. And he was saying. I'm gonna see if your New Delhi didn't do it. We re spying on us. He had grind. We try to give them a crime, he wouldn't, but he said you are actually a hilarious guy and you love dancing. And I don't know if you know for a fact, he wouldn't get Maximilian dance altogether, most shake, but Maximiliano grits used to go go dance in Italy. So will you the cats out of the bag with max? I'll do a deal. Five-second each things. Then we go doing Doing this this. off. You're right. Okay. So I'm getting. You got. Which you got. Keep going. That was good for me. Here are the Maxon her podcast iphones. Davies, I gotta ask you my friend. What's it feel like to have won the twenty twenty six World Cup bid with your beautiful speech. You did it. Thank you on behalf of everyone in America and Mexico and Canada. You did it. It was. It was. It was good. Would seem those faces scare. You delivered it, but you came in and you told your story, you had everyone's attention. You don't strike me as if you didn't seem nervous lacks confidence. No. But at that time I did. It was a beautiful speech, and I am convinced that it got us the world max. So thank you ever about that speech. When he told his background about being an immigrant and getting in there and being welcomed by Canada. And I was like, this is beautiful. Look, he's testing me. I know I saw the speech and I saw he's actually, he actually sent me this speech during. Art or text it to me. I don't even know what did. Yeah. I think so you maximum what's apt to you? I think. And it was great, and it's actually good to see the future of this sport that it's in good hands and listen by her Munich. "Women involved in professional sports than there are gay men at least out ones of those one right now in men's sports soccer player Major League Soccer, Colin Murden of Minnesota United. But I still feel like there's a little bit. I feel like people are more likely to call out women's sports teams for doing something objectionable than they are men's sports teams because we know women's sports teams will listen. We know that even pro-women athletes pro athletes who are women who aren't gay are often outspoken on issues of social Justice. The WNBA, for instance, their protests their national anthem protests in conjunction with the movement for black lives and Colin Kaepernick was extremely widespread and committed. I, I've been impressed by how Meghan repeat, for instance, she was kneeling for the national anthem. US soccer actually made a new policy specifically because of her protest. I think it makes sense in one respect to. Hold women to a higher standard. Women in general are more politically progressive than men, but it bothers me to see that than LGBTQ fans and women are expected to just sort of overlook any objectionable thing that a male athlete does in male athletes are constantly doing objectionable and homophobic and sexist things. And we would never ask their coaches or their leagues to take a stand unless people are increasingly asking them to take stands for domestic violence. But in terms of objectionable views that they put forth, it's it's never considered to be an issue in people just have to sort of tamp down that that part of themselves when they want to watch and enjoy sports. I would say, I, I agree with you like ninety five percent of the way because I think that there have been incidents in the last few years with guys like Daniel Murphy saying, you know. You know, I was he with the Mets then and he is now at the nationals. The baseball player saying that he disagrees with the gay lifestyle, Chris Culliver of the forty Niners saying that he wouldn't welcome a gay teammate and those guys. And there have been players fined and suspended for using anti gay slurs. There is like an increasing sense that saying and doing those things is not okay. But I've never seen a suggestion that anyone be kicked off the team for saying or doing anything like this and Stefan. I think I'm characterizing your views correctly. When I say that you believe that the US women's national team, you've talked about this before their role models. They should be held to a different and higher standard. And so I'm curious how you feel like that this the story plays into your belief there. I do think that they should be held to higher standard, and I do think that it's incumbent now on people like Megan repeal and other members of the team straight or gay to speak. Get out about what happened and they're going to get asked about it. There are going to be media Valle abilities in the next three weeks or two weeks when these games in this tournament are held. And I think interject for one second Caitlyn best, he's written a couple of really good pieces for out. She wrote a piece for out sports recently. She covered that Portland timbers game that you mentioned the first one after the seven hundred club appearance and she wrote about how ankle just dodged the press and refuse to engage in talk about what she'd done, which I thought was interesting. Yeah. And will she be able to get away with that now that she is on the platform she has as she is part of this team, she can refuse to talk to the media. That's her right. What will happen when Megan repeat? No. Or any other member of the team is asked for her feelings about what Jalen Henkel said and did in initially refusing to to join the team during pride month, and again, went out publicly. With her comments. I mean, I think those are the moments where the sport and these players these athletes have an opportunity to elevate the conversation to educate Jalen hill. Maybe if she's willing to listen, but the public at large and sports fans at large because there are it's not just women who are fans of the US women's national team, and it's not just. It's not just LGBTQ women that are fans of the US women's national team. I mean, this is the opportunity that athletes need to seize the podium to make the kinds of progressive statements and try to help educate the public in..
