"And I think the Padres are a team that are primed to win if they just, you know, again, if they get Nelly Cruz, that's gonna be a scary lineup. And again, we don't even know what the Giants are gonna be right now. This is a team that has, you know, won the division last year best record in baseball and we're barely even mentioning them, and we have no idea what they're even gonna put out this next season. The only team we can all agree on in the national league west that's gonna suck is the rockies. Rightfully so, poor buffet. If there's anything that this show should be titled, it should be titled poor, but. I'd be okay with that. Last thing before we, before we shut it down, we mentioned at the beginning of the show, we kind of glossed over it, but the CBT and the CBA, I should say. You know, we finally got a deal yesterday on day 99 of the lockout, excited, can not wait for Major League Baseball to be back. Players already showing up at spring training. Let's go. Opening day, April 7th. But the thing that almost blew the whole thing up was this introduction of an international draft. And this has been something that's been mentioned many times over the years. And here's I want to be completely honest. As much as I feel like I'm an expert and well versed in just about all of the everything involved in the industry, the only thing I truly do not feel well versed in is an international draft and the pitfalls that come with it. Here's what I think right out the gate. I obviously as a player tend to think that the international draft might be very negative towards players and here's my reasoning for it. No other reasoning other than the owners tried to sneak it in last second. That's all the information I needed to know me like we need to look at this long and hard. Well, listen, I think you're right to feel that way because it did feel like a kind of an ambush to some degree. And here's where I think the international draft has positives and it has negatives. I think when you look at it from a lot of the Latin players that have come up in through the way that the system is right now. There is a lot of goodwill in terms of seeing guys, you know, from the Dominican, from Venezuela, from Cuba, be able to have an opportunity to get out and play Major League Baseball. This system has provided that. However, the system is also faulted in a lot of ways, right? I mean, there's a lot of corruption. You've heard the term biscotti. Throwing her out a lot, which have profited off of some of these same players to come up. However, there's a trust issue there. I think a lot of the guys just, they've come up in this system and they don't necessarily trust that this system that desist this international system will be as much of a benefit for them. I think they look at Puerto Rican baseball and how for a long time, that was that was the cream of the crop in terms of Latin Latin ball players and since it's become, you know, quote unquote, Americanized, they feel like it's fallen off a little bit, right? And so I think a lot of the Venezuelan Dominican guys look at that and we don't want to go down that route. Now on the flip side of that, you got a lot of American guys who don't even get the opportunity to be in the draft until they're 18. You know, out of high school. And a lot of those opportunities get eaten up by, you know, being able to go overseas and bring guys in, sign them as early as 16. Sometimes, you know, reportedly earlier. And so when you have a body like the major league Players Association, that is filled with guys from all over the place. You can see how it can cause a divide, right? And I think what the owners did there was they kind of threw a grenade in there at the end, right? And I think the union did a good job of being able to salvage it by saying, you know, all right, let's talk about this because there are some benefits to possibly doing it. Tony Clark came out today and said he does not like to draft. Period. So you see why he's feeling like that at 30 over 30% of that Players Association body are Latin guy. So you can see why that is something that at the very least needs to be studied because you're going to need some comfort from those guys who have benefited from the system that it is. But I think those guys also recognize there are some shortcomings to the system that they have right now. And I think the best, the best outcome was what they got here. They got till June 25th to kind of study this our July 25th, I think, to the study this and figure out the best ways to go. Because certainly, that's something the owners want in return for giving up that draft pick compensation. Well, it's going to be interesting going forward. And if there's one thing I think people, I hope noticed this during this whole CBA negotiations is kind of seeing that baseball, not just Major League Baseball. I want to talk about all of baseball is not quite the free market that you might think it is. You know, obviously Major League Baseball's antitrust exemptions allows it a lot of extra things. On top of that though, keep in mind, Major League Baseball, as far as I know, is the only professional.

It's can we go a day without any hobby drama or do we have to just have crap all the frick around baseball for seventy years. They've been producing chords for baseball since. Nineteen fifty one. So it's it's it's shocking. It really is. They've got other stuff. This is a huge votes who accompanied that was just about to go public. So you obtained this internal memo. That had been circulating around major league baseball dan. What details did that memo reveal. Are the details of this deal now. That's shaking up a couple of industries at the same time You know the memo was the pa memo that was going around and There are two things really essential in. This is that Fanatics had done a deal with the mlb and the mlb. If you have a deal with the league it means that you can put logos on the on the cards. We have a deal. With the the players union association you can use players likenesses so there are companies out there that have deals with players unions but they don't have deals with leagues so they can produce cards with players likenesses. You can have a mike trump card but no angels low basically. Yeah without that licensing deal dan. You can't use the logos the symbols. You end up in that weird knockoff world. We see in movies. Sometimes where yeah. I'm pretty sure that's like the pittsburgh steelers but it's just another yellow and black team. That's sort of imitating them instead. Exactly it's like when you watch a sitcom and someone's using what's clearly a mac and there's a sticker right over the apple exact same thing that the big part of this memo was that fanatics had reached a deal with both players union and bama beat layers union deal starts earlier that starts in twentieth twenty-three while the top steel with mlb runs through twenty twenty five. So we're looking at kind of a weird next few years you know. The memo's say this deal is ten times larger than any of the unions agreed to and it's expected to generate roughly two billion dollars by twenty. Forty five you know. That's notable considering top speed. The twenty point four million dollars in licensing fees last year is the largest some of any mvp licensee and that was up one point six seven million dollars a year before so what it boils down to is that in this day and age everybody wants a bigger piece of the pie and it seems like the mobile thought they could get that with fanatics for tops. Then if they don't have major league baseball as a client what is their business of the big one for them. And i will totally admit to a bias. Here is a former college. Soccer player is that they have soccer They have kundus legal cards. They have champions league. Mls which is you know. It's it's no small chunk of change. I got this email from ebay the week that said that Soccer cards up eight hundred fifty two percent year over year on their site and with the world cup little of a year way and messy leaving barcelona for psg and christiano renaldo. Sort of on the outside you they. There's a lot happening in that industry but it doesn't even compare to what they had with baseball and so the financial hit top stand. I know there was this other deal that you had mentioned that was set to make tops and even bigger winner in all of this but instead this happens and now what is lost yes so so. Talks was a public company for a very long time. Went private in the late. Two thousand ten. I can't exactly remember when the date was but they were due to go public again with this huge merger with moderate capital. That was it was one point three billion dollar evaluation. It was going to be tremendous for them. Michael eisner was do almost six hundred million dollar payday. Yeah that's the former chief of disney. By the way now the chairman at tops right right and that that also really really quickly think within forty eight hours of the memo going out that public move was mixed and it's off the table now. Wow this is not only tradition being upended but also hundreds of millions billions of dollars. How does tops. How does michael eisner get blindsided to this extent. What's his version of events here. Because i imagine this is the single nightmare scenario. There's reporting out there. That stated he had this really tumultuous call with rob manfred and manfred. Apparently just bluntly responded that it was better for the shareholders in the long run which it says something doesn't it yes well. It says a lot about fanatics. Dan fanatics. I mean look. This is the sports apparel the jersey clothing company. I thought at least. And then i see headlines there that wait a minute. This is suddenly like one of the most impressive companies that exists in america. Right now trending in a way. That seems position them. I don't know towards like outer space fanatics has sort of really interesting origin story. There founded in one thousand nine hundred five as a brick and mortar store in jacksonville. Strip mall a jacksonville. Strip mall birthing anything resembling what we're currently seeing out of their wall street valuation. It is unbelievable. it really is They had some success as they were a payroll. They they opened more locations. They acquired a bunch of ecommerce property notably in college. Football by two thousand thirteen fabrics is has three billion dollar evaluation largely on apparel and jay z. Suddenly is involved in.

MLB To Try Experimental Rules This Year

MLB To Try Experimental Rules This Year

"So here are some of the experimental rules that Major League baseball's tinker with this year. The minor league level. I think I'm about to say, like experimental drugs to help you deal with this situation. With the bank. So Major league Baseball is going to try. 15 2nd pitch clock. Let's start here. I mean, they've already been trying to tinker with this for a while. Pitch clock in the minors and trying to get this into the major leagues and the major League Players Association doesn't want it. But that's nothing new. I think it's a good idea. I don't see anything wrong with a pitch clock. Making sure pictures move quicker. Batters move quicker, and if you don't if you're not in the box or the pitches in off by 15 seconds, it's a ball or a strike, depending on the picture of the hitter. To me. I love the pitch clock. What do you think I do, too? It's just odd to me that here we are 2021. I feel like we've had the same pitch clock conversation for about five years. And I know the players association doesn't want it. But I don't even know why this is even being written about it. Still tinkering was they're changing the amount of seconds But we've been there. Done this with the pitch clock either. Make it happen, or don't Mortgage Ames govern to buying Elektronik Strike Zone So there was some light tinkering the last two seasons, I think, and now more expanded use of the Elektronik strikes only robot umpire now the way that this is Being implemented. It's not. There is a robot like Judy Jetson behind the plate or not. Judy Jetson, who's the robot from the Jetsons, the maid? Whatever the maid was. It's not like that's the robot behind the plate. It is an electronic strike zone and that a human empire behind the plate gets the read either Baller strike and calls it I guess they do have final say that the human Um, can override it but that he is getting fed the information from Elektronik Strike Zone again. I like this is well, considering how Much of a discrepancy There is with human Empire's I'm on board with this. What do you think? Well, two things number one. It's Rosie. The robot is bogus. Always out objections. I'd love the idea of robot umpires. My only question is when you start giving a guy like Angel Hernandez, let's say a chance to override Do empires. Egos get in the way, and they just don't care with robot is telling them And also is this going to be done quick enough where it's not going to slow down the game. All right away. You get something you're going strike Paul, and whatever Rosie the robot voice, and then they have to make that split decision whether to override it or not. I just I like the idea. But I think you're also giving umpires a chance to allow their egos to get in the way and make their own calls

"Giants baseball. God bless for staining the news here. Getting your stretch yesterday was fun. And he was great, honey. Molly. Yeah? Yes. Hearing him out their tremendous doing his thing. And then Gabe Kapler showed up yesterday. Yeah, this stuff. Guess, he says he's down in Southern California, seeing his family or his two sons, legs, I think be their high school senior just graduated once in college and Games down there doing his l a thing. Question. Is he wearing that Niner? That gold Niner hat down in l. A. Ah, and people say is that Gabe Kapler? We're in a strange hybrid of a giant night. I'm gonna say no, because he's such a sensitive man of the people I'm going to say like he's very aware of his surroundings. You feel like you know what? I'm not gonna. I don't want to annoy my friends and Soquel with wearing the the Niner had. I think he's just sensitive to people's needs, and he's going to say no Niner hat when I'm in. So Cal. Well, here he is. He's back talking. And I guess you know, as we kind of get ready for. It's funny. People are saying that Mike telling us yesterday that when you get to Christmas time as a baseball player, you start getting the itch. Yeah, it's almost time. Yeah. Are we gonna get the itch or do we not get to get the itch? I don't know. I don't know what's gonna happen in this costume. That's OK. Great question can wait. It doesn't mean I don't know. Let's put it this way. I don't expect that we're going. I mean, we get the unless we get the NBA on TNT. Bob. Yeah, upset me. That video's hilarious. Yeah, vaccine getting rolled in on a cart. "Game. Took a Viagra before every game. Yeah, he thought it would help him. Get two feet in. If he had a 32 things I got. I got two of the three in turn. That would be a little uncomfortable in the in the locker before the game. Hey, Jessica! What? What? What do you poking me with? My God, Who are you doing? Change their own name. Whatever gets him up for the game literally. It's what you want. I love Henry Showman. He is ah, residential Grinch. He's a mean one, Mr Grinch, So he tweeted out last night. Whatever happens, the integrity of the 2020 season is already screwed. All the teams of canceled games have to make them up doubleheaders on rare off days, affecting their pitching huge effect on the wild card in Division races World Series title even more of a joke. In fact, Evan Longoria, the Giants actually responded. Tell us how you really feel, Hank. I understand what he's saying. And you don't even have to be appears to have that viewpoint. It's not going to be fair, but through this whole pandemic, nothing is fair. Who gets it? Who loses their job? This whole thing? Um My thought in is it is what it is. It's an outlier season. They're doing the best they can. They decided to play it and this is just the way it is. So it's It's not fair, but it's really not bothering me. What do you think? Yeah, I I I'm not for Ah, it's a weird year. Just let anything fly. I mean, you know, I I have a severe Ah! Issue with the concept of playing in a pandemic to start with. I mean, I just I do I think ah. There, you know. You read about the Spanish flu in 1918 and you know, World War two and Major League Baseball players went to fight in Korea. In a World War war. There was a concept of Ah, you know, Fight or work. So you either if you were able bodied American, you fought in the war we got in the war at the very end, you know, Sort of like we did in World War two even later where we were when we got him for the last year. Down. Or you had to work to help the war effort. So we are in the midst of a war here, and a lot of people are going to die, and there's just a general acceptance of that. That does bother me. So I I'm just I'm not fully been on board with any of this. I just don't think it's appropriate for sports to be played. But if we are going to play I still think that it needs to mean something. They've been playing baseball since the 19th century. And you can't just say this is a weird year. Whether they're weird stuff, Then you know, it has to mean something. So I don't like changing the rules. Ah, you know, I I modification a roster I'm fine with And I actually think the major League Players association is asking for to stay at 30. I think it should be a 30 there not be reduced to 28 2 weeks into the year in 26 you're gonna need two bodies in the Marlins could barely feel Team. Why would you take their roster from 30 to 26 when they they can't even get Teo? Get out 20 by the wage we were talking about earlier, Bob Nightingale from USA today wrote exactly what we thought they should do So if if they don't play Major League baseball If you have to determine whether the Marlins players will be paid for the postpone games if they are unable to play every game, But they will play pay the Phillies, Yankees and nationals for the Games they have missed because of the Marlins outbreak. So I would think you would hold withhold. You know the money for the Marlins, but you pay the other change that we're You know, affected Ah. Is a by product of what the Marlins did. But To answer your question. I still think it needs to be The game. We know I'm on board with some of the stuff. You know, Jeff Blam is going to join us from the Astros. Yeah, well get mainly and Joe Kelly getting popped for eight games, which I think is completely On board. I could easily have seen it beam or what he did was Could have resulted in Alex Bregman dying. It was that ridiculous and he would have gotten eight games easily if there was 1 62 and I don't care if they're 60. Ah, and you're multiplied by 2.7. So you know that's that and then you know more. So what Jeff saw last night was the Dodgers and the Astros going toe. Chanting 11th inning, 12 13 13 and they still didn't score and that was the whole point of putting the runner at second base, but I did not like the expansion of the playoffs. Out of all of a sudden an hour before the first game. Just say I'm going to take eight in each league and not five. So it's still needs. It needs to mean something. I understand the D h. They're things you have to do. Just to be able to play in the midst of a bevy of a pandemic, but it still needs to matter. On 81 will be a little bit of an out liar year and the Dodgers did win the World Series that year over the Yankees, and they did meet 77 78. But they were different teams, then. And there was a different year. So if you're gonna have Ah, great disparity in the number of games played by each tame Then that's gonna be a problem, so we'll baseball just allow them to play the double headers. We know what the motivation for the players is because they get paid twice. Then it's not. I get paid a day's work for one day got paid two days work if you play a double header. So it will baseball allow that your actions caused these games to be postponed. We may not be able to make him up, but then you look to your point. If we have such a disparity in the number of teams games played. And you could easily dismiss it if it involves just Miami, Although you don't know if Miami could be good or not this year now by their actions over the weekend, you know they're going to lose a lot of quality players. You would think for a while. Are there better players, but you can't just say they weren't going to make the playoffs anyway. Well, maybe you can. But if it impacts the Philadelphia Phillies if it impacts the New York Yankees, other teams and who knows what's going on in Philadelphia, and I think I agree with Henry. You know, Henry, just An animal find many more tactful and he is to think you know how I feel. But I'm not on Twitter. So I don't say all day long, but I kind of do four hours a day. But I I do believe that it has to be Can I'm not of the opinion. Oh, I don't care. That's just try anything this year, you know, let's let the same hitter bad every time up. We're going to do that, too. And I know football changed a lot during the 1943 season. Where before And football. Why you had players go both ways and you're not allowed to sub If you left the game and football, you were out of the game. I actually thought about this year. And I thought about it for years and years, and it's way out there. The thought, but I thought in this one year Where you are tryingto limit human interaction. Why would you allow a player to leave the game? Maybe not a pitcher because that would be unhealthy and you wouldn't do it any way but a position player. If you if you let him left if he left the game in the fourth inning for whatever reason, Say you're down like last night's game is 62. You know, you take Crawford off the field for whatever I'm just using him an example. Anybody Could be buster when he was playing a catcher. And now all of a sudden we tie the game you want to go to, you know, play longer, or, you know, we just forever reason they're gonna have this cockamamie. You know, Runner at second base would be so bad with allowing a player to come back into a game. What did I know that players something know anybody. They do in basketball. LeBron does not play the whole game, he subs in and out and in football. They changed that rule in 1943 where that's why he had so many two way players because if you left the field, you could not come back into the game. They did that because the rosters were combined. They have the STI Gal's The Steelers and the Eagles, confined in 43 for one team in Pennsylvania Football was like baseball before. Whatever. You just change the rules. That's way out there. That's too much for me..

To the public every six months. That's because, according to The New York Times, the Senate Intel Committee is calling for greater transparency from the unit on what they see in the sky. Previously, these encounters were only held in classified briefings. This all comes after people who previously worked with the group revealed that some of what they saw where objects humans quote. Couldn't make ourselves and vehicles not made on this earth. Fox's Todd Pyro this spurred on by footage of UFO sightings by Navy pilots released by the Pentagon earlier this year. Baseball fans are on Cloud nine. The long wait in quarantine over is more than two dozen teams get the rest of the pandemic shortened season going today, but no one knows when fans will be allowed back in the ball parks. Major League Players Association executive director Tony Clark telling Fox News will be driven by largely I believe the individual states and and the rules and governance in those mystic specific major league cities. But the hope is that at some point in time there, there are fans in the stands, even if It is only a certain percentage. Some teams allowing fans to have cardboard cutouts of themselves said behind home plate. At.

"We knew there would be a spike in Arizona and Florida, and that's why a month ago We said no to the players proposal. Rob Manfred is clearly a seer of futures. He knew that there would be a spike. That would on Lee allow Major League baseball to play 60 games because that was all news to us. We operated under the assumption that you could clearly get in an 82 game season based on where the calendar is, and that's even considering the idea that there will be a second wave. I hope that President Trump reaches out to rob Manfred and says police, sir. Help me navigate this and tell me what is going to happen and also let me know if I'm going to win the election in November, because Rob Man, Fred Can tell the future. A month ago. The owners Denied the proposal rejected the proposal of The players. But it wasn't because they weren't comfortable with paying players for 82 games or 100 games. It was because there was going to be a spike in Florida and Arizona in a month. This is the most gob stopping Lee. Gob smacking Lee. I don't even know the word gab something Stupid. Like He's insulting our intelligence now. The players and the owners have been negotiating form or than a month. There is no way that Rahm Manfred could have known. That there was going to be a spike like this. Were you just sitting back in his lazy boy listening to Rhonda Santas and go in Oh, yeah, This is this is going to cause a spike. We're not going to be able to start on time. No, they rejected the proposals because they didn't want to pay the players. That was the point the entire time. It had nothing to do with any second spikes or urge any spikes or second wave's. 149 game schedule. Was proposed by the players on May 31st Did we have Any hard evidence. That there was going to be a spike. You know, basically all 50 states. Around the first of July. Do we know that that was going to be the case? Maybe there were trends. Maybe there were people saying you have this opening up wide in Texas and Florida. It's not a great idea. Don't tell me Rahman, Fred. Believed all of that as gospel, and that was the reason why the owner's rejected the players proposal. They did it because of money. We have settled that argument and what happened yesterday with Rob Manfred's appearance on the Dan Patrick Show? Which is Further show that the owners had no interest. And having a back and forth conversation with the players union. They knew what they were going to Dio unless that Major League Players association took unprecedented levels of pay cuts. The type of pay cuts that we have never seen in the history of the bait of baseball when baseball was actually being played. That was always what it was about. And here is Rob Manfred on the Dan Patrick show, saying it was always going to be 60. But no, it's about Corona virus. It's not about the fact that we weren't comfortable with paying the players a pro rated salary. For more than 60 games. And now to just add a cherry on top of this. Amazing crap Sunday that he has piled up. He added to use a today That he's That Major league Baseball would be lucky to get in 60 at this point. And I'm sorry. This is an interview that he did, and it was printed. I haven't seen audio or ever seen video or heard audio of this interview, so I don't know what tone of voice he was taking. But whatever his tone of voice in his head, the tone of voice would be gleeful. Major League Baseball. Lucky to get in 60 games is music to the ears of rob Man, Fred and the owners. Because now they don't even have to pay prorated salary over 60 games. They could do it for 40 or 35. And the owners and Rob Manfred, sit there and think. Out at the end of this thing if There is the second wave, and if a 60 game season turns into a 30 game season or whatever the case may be that we're going to sit back and say. Gosh, at least Rob Manfred tried He gave it in the best effort he could And they just run out of time because the cove in 19 He thinks we're that stupid. We know what this is. We know what this has been about since day one. We understand very clearly what Rob Manfred has been saying all along. The on ly thing that we misconstrued. Was the words he spoke on Scott Van Pelt's SportsCenter show. A couple of months ago when he said, We owe it to our fans, and we owe it to the game to come back and play. That was the on ly thing. We misconstrued and misunderstood. Because we thought that Rahm Man Fred, a commissioner of a sport Actually cared about fans and the game and he doesn't And I'm I'm done with the The excuse or I'm done with the outlet. These commissioners have to say, Well, you know, In the end, their job is to serve the owners, and that's about the bottom line. Nonsense. That is part of their job. But at what point are we going to look at commissioners and say Yes, your job is to be the voice of the owners and to look out for your owner's best interest. But you're also a steward of the sport that you oversee. Part of your job, whether it's 1% 50%. Whatever it is part of your job is to be a steward of the game and make sure That the game is in a better place. When you leave it than the way you found it. And everything wrong. Manfred has done every single thing runs counter to that. Everything he has done is about winning negotiations. And making more money for his owner's. Jim Crane is one of his owners. It'd be a really Tough one for Jim Crane to take if, for instance, the Astros were banned from the postseason for cheating. It would be a real bummer if you couldn't circulate 2017 world Siri's gear anymore because you strip them of the World Series title..

N. in the NBA has a rule interesting what they say were afraid if we start the season up it'll take away all the attention to black lives matters and and the you know the aftermath of Floyd's murder and that's pretty fascinating to me as well the that they would do that instead of money in those guys I mean they make a lot of money for them to say what we may not play because we believe it's not the right time to do it I gotta say that's pretty impressive they're worried that moving forward the takeaway for the protests and I get it but you know football baseball I guess could you could still pull it off you know I mean the locker rooms are gonna be weird though everybody comes in the dug out and and when you sit in the dugout everybody sitting right on top one how do you do that you can build bigger dugouts yet people stand along the stand by the sidelines that's the problem I have with it the catcher has amassed twenty four Masconomet his mask but that you know the batter is the one I don't know you know maybe the batter would always have to wear a mask in the empire they were talking about having digital umpires and I even have a real empires back there that would be crazy right look I really liked what Dr Topol said we can you know eighty percent of the spread seems to be from the super spreader events and you know as much as I miss sports I watch golf over the weekend and I could get used to it without the crowds and everything although yeah that was weird yeah somebody makes like a thirty foot putt and nothing you're a couple in a plight pause in the background so yeah I get it but you know the the the the bottom line is people dying and people getting affected in people getting really sick we have to put in place what makes the most sense let's get small businesses back let's find a way we can get restaurants and and and and other venues open so people can safely get you know a dinner delivered and you know I mean that to me is the cool part let's figure a way people can go back to work let's retro fifties offices.

"How many times would we all hear that team I started out in a very there's that will only fix the since I'm on SW seventy five Chicago C. is there quest for excellence Jerry Reinsdorf and already over nobody would have to leave town come back can't argue with championship after championship after championship they're still the best yeah it is except you have Skype they've been there themselves schools scored their tries mental needs RSA comparatively yeah I mean he still made him the greatest number two player ever Dennis Rodman was the defensive presence the rebounder someone who on the team with big egos they need to call if you've never ran out of energy that was the thing it was already too late sports alpha male the only comparisons I can recall being apt to Babe Ruth that's it that's that's the list is nobody else on obviously in the wake of this incredible celebration of these very difficult business decisions we are entitled to the family we have until we lose it if we lose it then you look at it and you say okay let's change assist go to a rebuilding the once again team revealed the son of B. two three four five years calls may be building for forty two years ouch ouch Michael you won't look at this from a business thing have a sense of respect for the people later groundworks so that you can be a profitable organization that was Jordan after the ninety seven championship they decided one more year so they granted access to a film crew for an entire year and I think those films have just been sitting in NBA vaults for what over twenty years now and so this document is very interesting that is for whatever reason I and know that Krause and Reinsdorf and Phil Jackson they'll just did not get along and they decided just one more year we're gonna get for one more year and Jordan says in this that basically they told they told Phil you go eighty two oh no this year doesn't matter not coming back next year this is it and so they went into that with the big chip on their shoulder and one last season to do it all and they did certainly one of the greatest dynasties of all time and I was it got me thinking today there was a I got a little Twitter spat with somebody from New York who had posted there you know the how they redecorated their whole lives closets full of memorabilia and it's it's a true New York guy who's just got all this stuff from the Nixon the Mets and everything else and he has this poster the biggest thing in the in this closet areas far as memorabilia besides all the clothes was this poster I'm John Starks dunking over I think it's thank god who was it one of the bulls in Jordan from nineteen ninety three if the Eastern Conference finals it was a dunk in the final seconds and says the junk real big on it and I'm thinking what the hell is this and I have to look it up and there was a few seconds left in the game I think the next row by two or three Starks dunks over couple bowls put them up by five they take a two zero lead in the series the bulls then won the next four games bowls are down to nothing bulls won the next four games both go on to win the championship and I I was thinking I wrote back to this guy makes me appreciate how lucky I am that the next sorry history is that this is your big highlight here is this dunk which put your team up to nothing in the Eastern Conference finals which you that blew in four games and the guy was you know salty about it is you get a message and I said no it's fine I deserve that but it it just made me appreciate to think about where you know in this time right now if you've been alive for at least forty eight years like I have you have seen the bulls won six championships the Blackhawks win three championships the Sox have won a World Series the cubs won the World Series and the bears won a Super Bowl I mean I've seen every major Chicago school I saw the Chicago staying won a championship back when I was a kid so we've kind of had the best of everything think of how many people how many white Sox fan I mean the white Sox had last won it in what eighteen and then they wanted two thousand five so they went and insanely long time of course we all know the cubs won in insanely long time the bears had won championships in the sixties and stuff so most likely you'd seen that in your lifetime and then the bulls you know won their first ever championships there in the nineties so there are a lot of people who went through their whole lives not seeing a lot of their Chicago teams that maybe they were Die Hard fans of win anything and we've been lucky enough to see everything and even if you live in the Syrian you're not if you're a Packers fan you've seen them when a bunch of times your cardinals fan you've seen them when a bunch of times I mean it's been very lucky you know if your next when you haven't seen that you haven't ever gotten there and that's got to be hard for a lot of people and we've been very very lucky and very blessed and you look at the patriots senior jealous of what they've had served the New England area because the patriots the red Sox in the Bruins have all done a ton of winning in the last ten or fifteen years but overall we really can't complain we've been pretty lucky with what we've had and what we've been able to see here in Chicago so the last dance premieres this Sunday night on ESPN and I think I read the tears a cleaner version on ESPN suit that's also airing they're gonna air two episodes a weekend so two hours I think each Sunday night for the next five weeks because it's ten episodes altogether and not sure what time it premieres if it's like it eight PM eastern or seven PM central or what it said but check your local listings as they say I'm I'm I'm so excited to gather the family around and watch that this Sunday night and see how my kids react you know my kids have seen lebron and Kobe and people like that and that's their basketball players of their lifetime and I you know I know the arguments out there but you look at some of those old tapes to Jordan and I know that you different players lebron is much taller much stronger different game but Jordan had to go through so much and you look at you know the put statistics out like how many how many teammates scored a certain amount of points in the Jordanaires having Jordan won six NBA finals whatever MVPs one every time you get to the championship had really good players with them but never assemble you know it Scotty with them the whole time amid everything else got changed around so we never had that dream team assembly I don't know I just think you can compare through into ninety one seventy twenty four which is why can't baseball he's a sound track like they do in TV shows they can play without faith why would we need a soundtrack I don't think we're at home going oh my gosh I need to hear people J. think that would be more weird than just watching them play the game in an empty stadium I don't think they need a soundtrack but I think they need more revenue than is afforded by the TV contract to make it truly worth their while at least some of the contracts the players currently have whether or not they could negotiate something much better from the Major League Players Association during this I just don't know if they can eight seven zero right so this is a good one having a poster of the dunk is like having a poster of the double door like I mean that's what they have to to be happy about it was that was a bright shining moment in an otherwise miserable year the that's the other thing that I've seen about when you compare lebron to Jordan they talk about that really all time great basketball players that never got a championship because Jordan got in their way and they compared it to the lebron years were all the greatest players have won championships nobody got denied because of lebron but Jordan denied a few players from ever getting to the promised land so I think that's interesting as well three one two ninety one seventy two hundred little earlier in the show we were talking about the paycheck protection program which is three hundred and fifty billion dollars set aside for small businesses to get back on their feet or at least to keep people employed so companies if you look more loan money through this program that was for salaries and not laying people off for bringing people back so that they can keep their business is going and keep people employed and it was supposed to be for businesses under five hundred people but if you're a bigger company as long as you didn't have more than five hundred people at each location you could still apply so please see like potbelly sandwich shop they could apply for money under this because they have all these separate locations pot belly got ten million dollars sandwich maker pop bill and Ruth's Chris steak house successfully obtained loans worth ten million and twenty million dollars respectively according to filings this week with the securities and exchange commission taco Cabana which has at least a hundred sixty four stores across the country is owned by parent company fiesta restaurant group also received a ten million dollar loan now you could say well okay it's a bunch of restaurants we need those people to stay employed you need those things to stay open so maybe that's okay although if I'm like for pot belly see it's it's interesting because for restaurants and other places that really been affected pot belly mostly to go place you go in there but you can do to go pretty well at a pot belly and we had properly few times since this is gonna so I don't know that they're being as hurt as badly as some other places the problem comes in when you hear things like what happened recently pot bellies chief people officer Matt Rivard told buzzfeed news in a statement every penny will be used to financially support the employees in our shops Congress specifically qualified restaurants for the PPP loan program because restaurant workers are vital to our economy okay that makes sense and yes they will use every dollar on salaries because if they do that they don't have to pay it back so of course they will do that however in the very same SEC filing that revealed its lone potbelly announced it promoted Stephen W. Sir really is to the roles of chief financial officer and chief strategy officer paying him a four hundred twenty five thousand dollar yearly salary which has been temporarily reduced by twenty five percent due to the pandemic but just for signing Unser release was awarded a one hundred thousand dollar bonus will be eligible for year end bonus worth up to sixty percent of his base salary in twenty eighteen properly C. O. L. Johnson received more than one point six million dollars in salary bonuses company owns more than four hundred stores in the US great for those guys that they've achieved that level and they're making that money I don't know that if you're paying a hundred thousand dollar bonus to a guy and he might earn up to sixty percent of his former twenty five thousand dollars salary bonuses in the year I don't know if you're got those plans you should be borrowing ten million dollars for the government that you might not have to pay back seems like to me one does not go that well with the other especially when we read that one point four million loans were awarded seven hundred thousand seven hundred thousand small businesses were not able to get money under this program because it ran out pot belly got it right away Ruth's Chris got it right away taco Cabana got it right away because these groups who have great relationships with their banks of course were able to pretty much get to the front of the line and get that money some that's a little bit frustrating we'll see if Congress get that worked out in the next week what are the most popular dishes Americans are getting delivered in each state according to uber eats as you can imagine take out is seven await rights why can't mark Herman get up that's a good question seven await why can't mark Herman get up I gave com the abscesses body come on at one fifteen U. "Seventy million payment from the owners to the players which at calculates to I believe between four and five percent of collective salary for the major league baseball players will be paid regardless so the players have agreed and the owners are covered now in terms of no season. They'll pay five percent. So is that a good deal. While I guess the owners protect their downside risk the the players protect their downside. Risk saying if it all goes away you still get five percent now. I don't know I have to look into this. That that's the only money players will get. It will come down to contracts. Are they gonNA play the Games but it was interesting to see that kind of an upfront payment of that hundred and seventy million so again? The key to that agreement for the players was hey. Let's just make sure we get service time and we'll see where that goes but I thought it was interesting in this time of uncertainty the major league players Association again seen as the strongest union. Not having a salary cap gets together with Major League baseball owners and say okay. We're GONNA get this one seventy million we're GONNA get service time. We'll see what happens. No one wants to cancel a season. No one wants to stop operations but they protected downside risk. Okay another rant about college. Sports people are not appreciating what the true revenues from college sports are. I know we hear all these rants about. Hey exploiting these athletes you know. They're exploiting all these student. Athletes Bring all this money into the university and of course. Nfl WE'VE had a couple podcasts. On name image and likeness but now we're seeing sobering information about college sports and this is what I try to point out and I'm not being defensive about the NCAA. I know. I work for an institution Villanova but listen you have to realize the primary revenue sources are in flux right now. The one primary revenue source is gone and that is the march madness full income from that. The other primary revenue source is in flux. And that's college football if college football goes away because of this virus we got a problem in college sports. It's not life as we knew it is no longer there because the primary revenue source for so many colleges is college football so listen. I understand you know. The shaming of the programs like Alabama in Clemson Penn state in Ohio state etc. That have all these great facilities and pay coaches ten million dollars just for the head coach and all of but they are the outliers and I don't know because I haven't seen the books. But they support all the non revenue sports so what we now have seen as the NCAA distribution to the Division One members division two members division three members has been drastically reduced because of lack of March madness. So where does that? Drastic reduction leave us. It leaves a couple areas vulnerable overall operations for athletic departments. Where we're seeing temple. Ideas talked about five percent across the board. We've SEEN ATHLETIC. Departments lay off people and then of course with the student athletes..

"Should just stop paying attention to her. That's my that is my opinion on her. Sorry. He is good. And I think that might be the first time her name has come up on the Ps troll. She's a she's a left wing troll. Ed and the more people pay attention to her the more she feeds off. That, that's my opinion. Go ahead. A very sad scene last night in Houston at the major league baseball game sharply. Hit foul ball struck a young girl during the Chicago. Cubs game with the Astros. In Houston, last night, sending the young fan to a hospital and pausing the contest, I've seen some of the videos of this is this is tough to watch and not even you don't even see the ball hit this young girl. But you see the reaction from the players. The crowd that out of collective gas when the ball struck the child Alberta Mero junior was distraught. Throwing his hands behind his head immediately after seeing the impact after after the game before even knowing I can't find an update on this girl, which to me would be concerning this morning. I was watching get up on ESPN this morning shoes reported positive and stable. Okay because. The reports were that she looked to be conscious when they took her away. She was crying. But outside of that, there haven't been many details, come out about her. Elmore said as soon as I hit the ball, the first person I locked eyes with was her. And he goes on to say, God willing, I'll be able to have a relationship with this little girl for the rest of my life. Not an art Kelly way. No, no, no, no. But, you know, the big discussion is now is are these parks safe enough, should they be doing more to protect the fans? You know, the netting wasn't all the way around. I'm glad you asked that question. I'd like to address favorites in Bartlett, Giamatti, or whoever the hell is the Commissioner of major league baseball now book, pal Manfred, whoever Manfred, Mann's earth, band, Adam silver to a certain degree. Although I think the NBA gets most of it right whomever is in charge of the National Hockey League as well. I think that's Jeremy Roenick if I'm not mistaken. It's twenty nineteen and there should not be a seat purchased or given to a spectator in which that spectator is in danger of being. Struck by ball puck or any other item that is being used by one of your multimillion dollar athletes. I don't care what you have to do to retrofit a stadium. I don't care what you have to do to put in more netting or plexiglass or whatever it is twenty nineteen and people who pay to come to your games or given free tickets as our case. Thank god. We and they should never be in danger of a ball park or piece of equipment striking them at any point in their body. Thank you. Oh, that looks like that was just passed the netting also it was it was right past the netting. The major league players association, I guess, they wanted netting extended I think that they agreed to do it. But I guess they haven't done it all the way because from what, what I've read is, they don't want to obstruct the view of all these high paying customers. We'll guess what your views not going to be too good. When you take one to the face. So it's time to install netting glass everywhere when we went to the rays game on. Monday. We were one of seven hundred twenty five people there and to actually, and the guy tells us when we go to sit behind home plate you have to sit back in your seat while the ball is in play. Otherwise, the bulk you get hit back and you could get hurt. And I look at a guy and this guy's doing his job. So don't say anything to him. So I had an internal dialogue because it was my favorite ones to have about how you're putting the trust in me to notice it back, like what who doesn't want to sit for a little bit? And then you take a foul tip, right? To the frigging grill, but the outfield it's okay. You don't you don't you net out there to, you know, not a lot of home runs get hit. And if they do someone's going to be jumping in the way for a ball. But I think John's question is great that it's it's time to construct safety everywhere, and you shouldn't be able to be hit by people. I don't know the Pat like all the past with the major league baseball. But I know that, you know, NHL fans have been killed. I think the Columbus blue jackets in Columbus where a girl was killed a few years back. So that's just absolutely crazy to think about sports. Commentator Mia Khalifa took the boob, and it really impaired her ability to be a hockey common on YouTube, which is all she is known for me interviews, though. She is phenomenal. She's passionate about sports, and she certainly got that on her own merits has nothing to do with any previous careers that she ever may have had in which she Hoover down the genitalia of random men who got paid for the privilege of banging her. I agree. And she's, she's getting married soon. So congratulations to her, that's going to last. I bet she doesn't have trust issues at all the show. Awesome lady friend of the show. Where do you guys eat dinner within your house? Oh kitchen table kitchen. Table is not a kitchen table, man. Betray you a TV tray guys. We don't have TV trays up kind of in limbo right now with where I'm eating. I'm kind of I kind of stand over the kitchen sink area and sound very nice. It's not so yeah it's not pleasant right now. We'll a brand new study is showing that seventy five percent of people grew up eating at the dining room table and now only thirty eight percent. Do so people are more apt to eat on the couch or was twenty two percent of people say they prefer to eat in bed. Okay. That's weird. That's no. Taking all of this out. That's not good for the family dynamic, though. I mean, I remember that it was very it was a very strict rule that we always had dinner together, and there could be no TV on. And I think for families specifically like having that moment to kinda reconnect and flush it out is probably fairly important. I will say my parents nailed that one I might be, you know, talk of make fun of those things. I don't think they did great. But they nailed that we every night that my dad was in town. We all four of us would be sitting at that table at the end of the meal, you could guarantee that my balled up napkin, would make it into my sister's glass, every single time who who, who are the who's in this scenario, spars eating and Betty families. We're talking about a husband and wife or boyfriend girlfriend. It doesn't specify, whether these are single people there was over there was over seventeen hundred people in the study. So I mean, I would you'd think that if a husband and wife if he's eating in bed that, that marriage is gonna last for a long time. Right. Because you know she. He's gonna want him to eat in bed. She she's gonna say, Honey. I noticed you haven't been eating battle lately, is my food, not to your liking and he'd say, well, no. You know, somebody recipes get a little old and musty, but your food still good, if not a little dried up, and she would go, well, what can I do to give you a more moist dish? And he would say, maybe perhaps a little marinade would be good. And she said, all right. I'm gonna marinate some sear some some ahi tuna for tomorrow and will you eat in bed, and then he would say, you know what if you serve that delicious meal, I would put on a snorkel, and I would eat in bed until that bed turned into a waterbed and you know what I'd still do eat that waterlog? He tuna until there was no more waterlogged. He tuna eating in bed saves marriages. Oh, okay. I don't know. Yeah. Very against it. Yeah. You don't need a bed. Feel about that. I don't know. I know that I know that sometimes I'll come home and all kind of like, knock a bed chrome off and a look at what's that. She'll go. Eating your bed. Crumbs in your bed. Yeah. Somebody's eating in your bed. It's her house. She that flexibly thinks she could eat in bed like she would have to bend, her neck, all down to reach the plate if the plates on the mattress. That's what I'm talking about. She'd have to crane, her neck to where she could get to the plate because you don't wanna spill crumbs everywhere. Well, I don't know how she's doing it but there's I find bed crumbs end. I let her know that I can see them feel them that crumbs are hurtful. Start eating a bed you eat them bed, John or got this new nice leather chair. I do a lot of eating out there because if I do make a mess. I just wipe it off real quick. You know, just a wet rag insure. That's good. Okay. Quick cleanup as. Sometimes. Yeah. You got. Yeah. All right. As long as you're eating what she's cooking. And putting in front of you sometimes I laid on the plastic wrapper tarp or tarp is the way to go for sure. Guys are messy or sliding. In bed. Banker J P Morgan. Chase has settled a class action lawsuit that will force the Bank to pay five million dollars to men who weren't giving equal paid time off to care for their newborn children as the primary care giver. The Bank has also changed his parental leave policy to be gender neutral. The settlement stems from a lawsuit by man who asked for sixteen weeks, paid parental leave that JP Morgan offered to female employees after the birth JP denied him saying that men as biological fathers weren't assumed to be primary caregivers. Well, not a soon, but they should allow for the damn possibility. That that's the case. This is actually this is something that I've heard Donald I know it doesn't go along with him. But I know that Ivanka's very big on getting legislation passed that would give men, you know, the right to certain amount of time off after a baby women six months, they get so Sweden Iceland somewhere over there, guys. Have you know half a year? It's really time to take a look at how we treat genders we've. Definitely and rightfully so. Tried to right. The ship when it comes to gender inequity when it comes to what women are paid and the opportunities. Why can we not finally take a look at how men I don't want to say, get the shaft, but are perhaps not given a fair as fair shake in parenting and custody hearings in issues Justice for dads while yes to a certain degree. It is just assume that if you're a dad, you're not going to be the primary caregiver, and that is insulting to those of us dads who are. But should it be shouldn't be exactly the same as a woman right? Yeah. There's a physical aspect, bro woman. Yes, we went for us to I had to conceive that child, there's a mental aspect to becoming a new father, right? Like she didn't have to see what came out of there. I did. So I I'm sure it hurt her physically, but emotionally unscarred from seeing my son's head down there. More without thinking my son's head's gonna pop out and I'll tell you Boehner killer more PTO being cheated on her. Baby, having a baby more PTO..

"Oh, yeah. The casual fans tuning in now. Oh, by the way, this is Mike trout or this is Manny Machado, or this is Bryce Harper will it work and that and that affect is. Well, I don't know that these rules specifically have any impact on that. But I also know that that's something that's exceedingly important to baseball and should be because the NBA is clearly a superior product at this point like the NBA. I I would not consider myself historically in NBA fan. I love the hell out of the NBA right now, though, it's an entertaining sports league to watch. You like miss because. Well. I think it's because I have a crush on. Whoa, jr. It is everybody. Does your just got to figure out what your special things going to be? You can't be a pass in by. Hey before we let you go really quickly. If you had to guess, which of the many things proposed is most likely to for sure happen in happen fairly soon. Twenty second pitch clock. I I would put money on it that it will happen in twenty nineteen because laterally right exactly he can unilaterally put it in place. And I think that the players association is going to try and get as much as it possibly can in exchange for it. But how much can it really get? When when the players understand that rob Manfred can do it at his way. I think I think that that's part of what these negotiations are for that, you know, as as much as the league one in the last collective bargaining agreement. You know, I think they understand that labor. Peace is more important than anything. I hope they understand that at least because I'd much rather be covering games than a striker lockout. No doubt. Hey, thanks for the insight. Jeff, we'll let you know on Twitter when we decide what you're breaking stories are going to be called. I look forward to hearing back from you.
