NFL Coach Chan Gailey Discusses Losing Football Coordinators
"Losing O season office according to defense coronary is more or is it the same more changing on a college level or a pro level? Because now you're looking at Philadelphia, Philadelphia came very close in a Super Bowl, look good, mahomes is just my home. But he now loses here on loses his office, Gordon and his defensive coordinate. Going into a new year with, you know, again, is much pros do move. Which is the bigger impact. An offensive coordinator defense Courtney loss on a college level or a pro level. I think it's more in a college level. Because in pro level, you got enough money, you've got enough. We're with all to make sure you have got somebody in the wings or you've done enough research that you've got a general idea of what you're going to do. I mean, it can't be a shock to everybody that Philadelphia was going to lose a coordinator. What, oh my gosh, he's leaving. He had made he had been thinking about this. He and the GM and the owner had been talking about this for a month and a half now. So it didn't like it's a shock to them. Whereas in college, you don't have to wear with all to maybe, you know, the one that's done at the best to me is Nick. Nick's always had one of those guys that they call whatever they call them. And analyst. Yeah. That's how analysts, he had an analyst sitting there that he was developing to be the next coordinator.

Sunny Hostin Discovers Black Quarterbacks
"Let me get back to the brain dead amongst us from the view, sunny hostin, and I want to actually play that clip because we have the clip now available. I want to play the clip of what she actually said. So you don't think I made it up. Roll the clip from sunny hostin. The only thing that would have made it better for me is, you know, finally we know that black quarterbacks can lead teams. And our smart enough to lead team. I would like to see I always knew that. We knew that. We knew that. But you know, it takes people a minute to catch up. How about some black owners? Some black owners. Cheryl Lee Ralph brought us to church with lift every voice and sing. I felt like I was watching Wakanda, actually. I was just like, this is amazing. But we still need more black owners. Well, first of all, Wakanda's not even a real place. And second of all, what does a black owner have to do with the team's success? Does it somehow make the team better because the person is black? You know, it's like me saying we need black we need more white defensive bags. So we could say that white people can run a defense. Shut up, woman. Also, the fact that we now know that black people can run a team, I just named y'all these quarterbacks. I mean, they say, we now know that black people can run a team because two people of African descent are in the Super Bowl. I mean, God, dang, they forgot about Russell Wilson. They forgot all about Russell whisky going to the going to the Super Bowl. I think Russell Wilson went to the Super Bowl a few times and probably one of the most winning his quarterbacks of his time. I mean, we can go down the list Cam Newton went to the Super Bowl as well. Young guy, unorthodox quarterback, because he was the part of the biggest quarterback I've ever seen. They can run. I mean, we can go down a list. You know, Colin Kaepernick sucked even though that's the person that they beloved. And there are so many other great quarterbacks that have played. And we talk about college football. I mean, there's a plethora of great quarterbacks that play in college football. The kid who just won the husband trophy. I think he's biracial. Caleb Williams, that kid is that kid is literally the only other person other than Patrick Mahomes that can gun that thing like that. But with the funny thing is in the spirit of saying we need black quarterbacks and black quarter we can do this. We kind of crap on the white quarterbacks that can actually run.

The Super Bowl With Two Black Starting Quarterbacks Went Viral
"So sunny hostin decided to make a commentary about the black quarterbacks in the Super Bowl. Mind you one of them is biracial. That means one of his parents is white and the other one is black, which is Patrick Mahomes. And then Jalen hurts his period of both his parents are black, they light skinned and so you know they mixed with something. But anyway, Jalen hurts being black, she gets on, and I'm paraphrasing that she made the statement to say that now we know that black people can run a team and there can be black quarterbacks. Well, first of all, that's why women y'all need to stick to y'all sports and leave our sports out of it. Especially if you ain't never watched football before, you know what you're talking about, you're just going on a rant about the Super Bowl the first one you've ever watched in your life. Black quarterbacks have been a thing for a very long time. Some of the greatest quarterbacks in history of the NFL were black quarterbacks. Somehow she forget about and I'm just going to say a brief number of them. Each of you get about one moon, way back in the day. Quincy Carter played for the cowboys. I mean, he was he great. He was a star quarterback on the cowboys. Dak Prescott. I mean, is he not black? I guess you don't count because he ain't in the Super Bowl. But then you go through Donovan McNabb, Steve, mcnair, Steve mcnair, you can go through college football and then go to the NFL. And they may not have panned out, but Vince Young was one of the best quarterbacks who ever played in college football in my opinion. He was one of the best quarterbacks to ever play. He got into the NFL may rookie of the year and then he didn't play after that because of his personal decision making. We can go down the list. Who you got, Nick. I mean, I think I got a few of them. Oh, you took my now. Lamar Jackson, which is the most dynamic quarterback in the NFL. And then you have Michael Vick way back in the day. Michael Vick came out. First round draft pick. Gun in it. Michael Vick was a tremendously great quarterback. I mean, I can go down a list of how many dynamic quarterbacks. In the funny thing is, is that they like to make a spectacle and try to point out everything they can to make us divided. And I talk about the black national anthem here in a second, but they try to make us divided.

A Maricopa-Style Super Bowl
"Yesterday morning, I was going for a walk and the Super Bowl was in Phoenix and I saw a bunch of guys wearing eagles gears and again, I don't have strong opinions about the eagles or the chiefs honestly. Don't really have a dog in the fight. And so I said this non sarcastically to this group of guys, maybe it came across our cast. Hey guys, good luck today. And they stopped. They said, we don't need it. We're going to wet. I was like, what? That's a very strange way to respond. And unfortunately, that was a pattern of eagle fans that I encountered in the valley. They were very, very convinced that they were going to win. And they didn't. But however, to the eagles community, they definitely do have a rather strong argument that bad things do happen in Maricopa County when the referees don't do their job. Okay, so let's just indulge me for a second. I know a lot of you in the audience say Charlie, why do you talk about football? They're the worst and all this. I love football. I'm not going to apologize for it. Yes, I know I have to I have to tolerate their wokeness and all this stuff. But the beauty of the sport of football is worth cringing and complaining during the microdosing of woke ism. This is the zapruder film. I'm sorry, it has to be pretty film. It is the end of the chiefs game, the chief's eagles game, which is now in eagles, folklore, gonna be analyzed more than that of the Kennedy assassination. Watch this objectively. By the way, I did not want the eagles to win. The whole day I was bothered by the fact that the eagles fans are we don't need luck. We're gonna win. Okay, pal. And also, I really, I like Jalen hurts and I like Patrick Mahomes, but just look at this, this is how a Super Bowl should be decided. No, I liked the outcome and I'm telling you, this is an in. This is a bad call. It's bad for the sport. It deteriorates trust in referees. Let them play, especially that's two minutes. There should be an unspoken rule by NFL officials that you only throw a flag unless it is convincing.

The Right Time with Bomani Jones
"mahomes " Discussed on The Right Time with Bomani Jones
"But the only thing you could ask for is well maybe he could get the ball out faster. But that would be a fair request. They would make an appoint during the game where my home said, I know that playing tackle for our team is probably the hardest place to play tackle because I hold the ball for a long time. I move around. I try to make plays like you gotta hold your blocks. This is not an easy thing. So if you wind up in a situation, you know, where you need to run quick game and you need to get it out of there. Mahomes probably isn't the best guy for you. But let me get over here into this box score, all right? Here are the guys that got touches for the Kansas City Chiefs in this game. Our man 30 Pacheco, jerick McKinnon, sky more. Travis Kelce. We got him. Juju, who had 7 catches for 53 yards, it should be noted. Justin Watson, Noah gray, kadarius Tony, Marquez, Valdez family said he didn't even get a touch. He got a target. It's a dude named Jodie fortson had a target. Here's why I'm bringing this up here. If the chiefs were to go 9 and 8, we would go and say, well, what do you expect when these are the guys that get touches? If they had come out there in the Super Bowl and lost, you would be like, well, hey, what do you expect when the chiefs leading rusher is ferdie Pacheco? And they're leading wide receiver is juju Smith Schuster. You know what I mean? We'd be out here like, yo, they gotta get Patrick Mahomes, some help. That's what we'd have to say about this. Like, perhaps the most impressive thing to me about mahomes in this performance and what he got done, aside from the fact, by the way, where they won a game where they had the ball for a grand total of 8 minutes in the first half. All right? This for him was like your flu game type of performance. I'm trying to think here and you let me know if I'm wrong here. Can you think of a Super Bowl where a quarterback was so obviously injured? Injured. And did the whole gut it out thing to make it happen because as much as we talk about mahomes is being like, you know, the superstar type of dude with all the fireworks and all of that stuff. They didn't have a pass in this game that's longer than 22 yards. Like this wasn't the air it out, right? This is the offense that doesn't have tyreek hill. This is the offense that's got a bunch of dudes and mahomes made it work a one leg with a bunch of dudes. Like part of what made it impressive to me about Jalen hurts also was it's still pretty clear. That shoulders not good. Like I'm imagining that we're going to hear something about an off season surgery. To deal with that shoulder and he went out there and he got it done. Like you saw that from the eagles, the eagles got those big plays, like AJ Brown had 45 yard catch. Devonta Smith had a 45 yard catch. Like they got out there and made big plays. Mahomes wasn't really working with the big play option. And they did it. They marched down at the end of the game.

Why Chiefs will win Super Bowl: experience and talent
"Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes goes into the Super Bowl as the NFL's MVP. But he knows that she's often can operate as efficiently as the blocking by his offensive line. Everybody knows that everything starts up front. And so it would be a great challenge for offensive line to try to do what they can in the run game and the pass game of protecting and run blocking. The chiefs won their divisional round game against the Jaguars last weekend, 27 to 20. What did you see from this Casey offense in that game and from The White House in particular? That was a bit of a weird game, right? I am a homeless pulled pretty much everything out of his bag. I think on that first drive you're compared to last. My home side sling complete and juju Smith Schuster. Doing these crazy sidearm passes. And just really extending plays and showing why he's probably the MVP again this year. On the run. Helps you in the middle. But then he gets injured as his mobility is limited and incomes Chad henny and leads them on a long touchdown drive and think showing why they, if mahomes is unable to go or isn't quite up to his usual self this weekend against Cincinnati that they wouldn't necessarily have a problem putting chat in the end. Chad henny facing third and three. Facing pressure Arden key hits him. He completes it Kelsey made a man miss got a first down and there's a flag. I think you saw the strains of this offense come out in Travis Kelce and that kind of short middle ground and letting him use his unique, totally singular skill set to get yards after the catch. And Kelsey and the end zone. For another touchdown. The receivers as a group, I mean guderian's Tony led the way with 5 catches for 36 yards. It wasn't a ton. I'll just scanline had one catch for 6 yards and a touchdown. And you know, they also relied on the ground game as well. And I think that's a big difference in this offense this year as they have a little bit more of a bulldozer and Pacheco in this rookie. And he finished with 95 yards on the ground, so more than able to make up for I think what mahomes lost in his mobility when he sprained his ankle. But that becomes the Travis culture show, and you know, they come out with a win because, hey, they have maybe the best tight end of all time. Well, speaking of Patrick Mahomes mobility, which you mentioned there, one of the biggest talking points going into the AFC championship game this weekend is, of course, Patrick Mahomes ankle. It could be totally fine. Come game time, but Alex, if it is giving him some problems, how might that impact the types of plays that the chiefs call and do you think that that could impact the role that their wide receivers in particular play? Yeah, perhaps. I wonder if it becomes even more of a focus where Cincinnati now, if mahomes isn't quite a 100% a lockdown, Kelsey and then fully take him out of the game and again dare this quintet of rogue ninjas, so to speak, to beat them and one on one scenarios, I could see them establishing the run game leading on Pacheco a little bit more, you know, relying on this kind of quick hit action, not just to Kelsey, but to McKinnon and others out of the backfield, getting creative again with how do they utilize guys like Tony, you know, they'll have all their receiver weapons out there and it strikes me as potentially a good time to dig into your bag and see what these guys can do. Especially if you can't rely as much on mahomes making plays himself. All right, last thing here, Alex, you've laid out the role that this group of White House has played over the course of the season, the sort of limited role. What role do you see them playing for Kansas City in a potential Super Bowl run? Yeah, it would be surprised me at all if Kansas City wins the Super Bowl that one of these receivers is their leading receiver in the actual Super Bowl game itself. It feels like every year there's some guy who maybe we haven't been talking about nearly as much. He puts on a show. Now it would shock me if they won the Super Bowl and Patrick Mahomes was in the MVP. But it wouldn't shock me if his leading receiver is valid as scantling who he hits on a couple of defaults or juju, who he suddenly needs to rely on because he's finding it a little bit hard to get it to Kelsey in space. You know, that's what makes them so dangerously diverse this season in a way that they haven't been in the past. So regardless of how specifically any of the receivers play if Kansas City makes the Super Bowl and ends up winning, I think they're presence people will look back and see that it had benefits on the offense as a whole. Well I was thanks once again for joining us and for breaking all this down. Of course. Thank you. You can read Alex Pruitt's full story about Patrick Mahomes and his rogue ninjas at SI dot com. "Can ball. They got a bad rap coming into the season. I was looking at it and I know Travis was looking at it like, man, these guys can ball. I don't know what everybody's talking about. I don't know what to do. My home is also talked about this on Kelsey's podcast so that he was particularly impressed with Watson Justin Watson a white guy quickly earned the nickname Forrest Gump from Patrick Mahomes given how fast he was able to run. And I called Brett veach. I'm like, hey, how fast is this white guy? We got out here, man. He's over here. I can't even throw it far enough, this guy's outrun me. I call him Forrest Gump. And catch out the bag now. Have you ever seen force gum? He has that Watson has that perfect form. It's like a machine. Just like this, the entire time. Todd Tom hangs out of rough. It was very clear that they heard the noise. They heard the doubts, I think Patrick Mahomes quarterback coach Jeff Christensen even put it to me in the story that he said, I'm sure there was a burning desire with Patrick to say, I've got to step up and be better than ever because he didn't have this singular talent at wide receiver and to re kill. And I try to take it on myself to kind of I'll have a bigger responsibility in the offense and you got to get through your reads better. You got to be better at getting it to the right guy and giving guys chances to make plays. And we had a lot of guys have stepped up, man. All right, so this core of wide receivers might have been underappreciated, at least according to Patrick Mahomes, but I think it's safe to say none of these guys are superstars. So explain just how impactful they've been this season and how much this Kansas City offense has and hasn't used them. There's certainly an interesting group for me to have chosen to write about. Given, yeah, how little they produce relative to the overall passing game. So if you were to rank all the playoff teams in terms of the percentage of passing yards, completions and touchdowns during the regular season that went to their receivers. The chiefs and those are fact of categories and percentage of the overall passing yards, percentage of the overall completions, percentage the overall touchdowns, they rank next to last next to last and last. And the only team ahead of them, and those first two categories are Baltimore, which is like at times allergic to passing, especially without large accident under center. Yeah, and speaking of wide receivers not scoring a lot of touchdowns, if I'm not mistaken, the Kansas City wide receiver corps had 13 touchdowns during the regular season. And Travis Kelce, all by himself, had 12. Yeah, and jerick McKinnon had 9. So, you know, between the two of them, they practically doubled up the receipt for corps. But their power comes and I think they're collectiveness in the fact that there's 5 of them that for the first time ever, Patrick Mahomes through multiple touchdowns to 5 different receivers that for the first time ever, he targeted 5 different receivers with 30 plus targets a piece. The Holmes has a lot of time. Going deep. That is scaling has it down to the 30 perfect throw from mahomes and Marquez Valdez scaling. That's what he does. In the chiefs week 7 road win over the niners, Smith Schuster and valdis scantling became the first pair of chief wide receivers and more than two decades to each top a hundred yards in the same game. Blitz coming. Picked up mahomes wide open and Judas mist Shuster. One man to be trying to get to the end zone. He will for the touchdown. There's multiple guys who can beat you and while they might not be the first or even second option in this passing offense, they brought welcome Depp. It has given them a level of diversity in the passing game, and this is straight from the mouth of Eric Vietnamese, mahomes no longer just has to rely on Kelsey and defenses can no longer really key in fully on Kelsey. It says to a defense is our opponent. That you just can't focus on one individual. And I know they put a lot of attention on Travis Kelce, but there's also a number of receipts out there that can come out there and make some plays. And that includes other tight ends. On top of that, our backs are doing a heck of a job out of the backfield as well. So it just goes to show you how diverse our office is. You know, they don't necessarily, they don't have the big star and to re kill, but they have more weapons at receiver of this caliber than they probably ever had with mahomes on their center. And Alex tell us a little about the versatility of this group of wide receivers. And the roles that they're slotted into because, you know, when you watch the scene play, you definitely get the sense that these guys are taking on all kinds of different roles over the course of a game. Yeah, one thing to a man they all told me is unique about playing in this Kansas City offense under Andy Reid and coordinator Eric Vietnamese. Yeah, the variety of things that they're asked to do is receivers that they're not just like, for instance, Smith Schuster was in Pittsburgh, pigeonholed in a just play in the slot. They're asked to play all receiver positions. Sometimes they'll line up tight end. They'll sometimes line up in the backfield, they'll get shifted, they'll get sent in motion, they'll be the integral part on a play where everyone plays ring around the Rosie and spins around in the huddle, and then they break out into some weird formation that they dreamed up in the quarterback room. We ask our guys not to play a certain position. We ask them to be the best football player. They can possibly be. We introduce concepts, okay? And within those concepts, we challenge them to understand what each player is doing within that concept. And that extends after the snap as well in terms of the flexibility that mahomes has to extend plays and just natural ability he has quite frankly really demands smart receivers who are able to pick up on his tendencies and react accordingly too. And Alex, you talked earlier about the way that this group of wide receivers bonded and worked together, getting a sort of head start back in the spring. How is that connection between them and that bonding evolved over the course of the season and what's the vibe within this group and this team overall at this point in the season? When I was there it was quite loose, there's tons of music playing loudly in the locker room or the point I could barely hear the interviews and like guys were playing one on one basketball and a hoop just in the middle of the carpet and I think those good vibes certainly extended to the receivers room when I was there. A lot of talk about just them all as new guys hanging out, watching Thursday Night Football, you know, juju was saying when he was in Pittsburgh, he kind of felt like he was the only guy who was hosting and when he got to Kansas City, the first thing that he was invited to was just an offensive gathering. It left tackle Orlando Brown junior's house. So I think there's a tightness in it togetherness that to some respect and forms there's success that they've had as a group because I don't think it would really work if you had some big heads and big egos in there who weren't going to understand that in this offense there may go days when they don't get a ton of targets and they may go weeks when they're not featured but their time certainly will come and has come at sporadic moments. All right, well, Alex, I think that brings us back to this mysterious term that we introduced at the start of the episode. Can you explain why you ended up referring to this group of 5 wide receivers in your story as, quote, rogue ninjas? Juju, I knew, was a character. I'm not sure there's a bigger anime manga fan in the NFL or at least publicly stated one than juju Smith Schuster going back to his time and Pittsburgh. He was doing Naruto and Dragon Ball Z inspired touchdown celebrations and wearing cleats painted with characters on them, which is kind of why I approached him hadn't had and said, hey, I have a weird question for you. Can you compare your wide receiver unit to any of your favorite anime ensembles? It took him to all of two seconds before he summoned the absolute perfect answer. I think that he could have given. I'm going to try not to butcher the name. I think it's pronounced the akatsuki clan from

"And Patrick Mahomes is exhibit a of like, you can be Uber competitive and also loving at the same time. It's remarkable. Yeah, it's okay to be nice is a rare lesson when it comes to the character studies that we get in sports. And yeah, you've just given us a very, very different sort of a picture. Yeah, and there's one photo that really during my reporting got sent to me and I just, I think it tells Patrick Mahomes story with one visual. It's from this off season. He got married to Brittany, his longtime high school girlfriend, and he was surrounded by friends, family, and it felt like half of White House high school was there. And so they posed for pictures, did all the regular wedding things. He did pictures with Brittany and then his family, and then finally they pulled aside all the groomsmen. There were 5 of them. Four of them were White House alums. And in the one photo that I saw, Patrick is standing in the middle and his 5 rooms men are on the outside of him. Directly to his right is his brother Jackson. He loves his brother very much. A huge part of his life. And then on the far left are his high school and college receivers, Coleman Patterson and Jake Parker, two really good friends of his right beside Patrick is also a guy named Travis Kelce, who plays an important role in his life these days. And the guy stand beside Travis Kelce is Ryan cheatham, still in the picture literally and figuratively.

"Sarah, in this competition, this historic competition that will not end. That lasted so much longer than that one workout. Lasted so much longer than that summer lasted multiple years. What ended up changing that endless campaign? Well, they went into their sophomore years. They thought that it was just gonna be another battle as the starting quarterback for the JV team. The varsity team was set at quarterback. And then one day, Patrick got called into the coach's office and they let him know they wanted to call him up to play varsity, but at safety, not. This is remarkable. By the way, I just love how everyone in this story was like, yes, I am the guy who wouldn't start patching the homes from day zero. I'm the guy who said he should play safety. That's one of the amazing things about Patrick Mahomes, like even when he became a great quarterback. It's not like Alabama and Clemson were flying their helicopter into to see him. He is. He is this like weird, scary unicorn of a talent. So when I asked these coaches, like, wait, how did you not know? This was Patrick freaking mahomes, correct. They all say, hey, it seems easy now, but at the time, it was, he was one O one. And the one it was him. It hadn't come along yet. But wait, this timeline, there's other timeline now that I'm imagining where he is a safety, okay? What's Patrick Mahomes defensive back looking like? Not a huge hitter. Everybody said that like, listen, he'd come up and make tackles, but he was not letting people out. He was not the fastest, but you know, he was a really good tremendous instincts had a bunch of interceptions. He understood the way offenses worked. And as a baseball player, he certainly knew how to track down fly balls. So he got the balls knocked him down and got interceptions and but he hated it. He just he is a quarterback in his heart and so he played safety and he played it well. But it wasn't what he loved. And so presumably, the guy who is doing what he loved is his best friend, right? Like this is Ryan cheetham's job I presume or where is he at this point in their parallel path? Cheatham's on JV just loving life. They are rolling up 50, 60 points on people. And because they had a really good roster outside of two great quarterback prospects. They had just a great bunch of kids coming up through White House and the varsity staff is starting to realize like we have the makings of a great team, a great program here. We just have to figure out the quarterback situation. And even after that sophomore year, they weren't any closer to a decision. Wait, so Patrick Mahomes is not liking his job. He's not liking the position that he's being asked to play. And what does he do as a result? Well, the coaches were quick to say like, he never said a single word that he was displeased. They could just tell though that this kid was a quarterback. And Patrick looked in the mirror and he saw that that he could be a great quarterback. And so he had a tough year playing safety, and he told his mom, you know, that I just don't know if football's for me. And it was really tricky because he was so good at two other sports. He loved basketball so much. He loved duke basketball. He loved playing point guard and then he was fantastic at baseball. And so, you know, mahomes and his mom, they declined to comment for this story, but the picture that other people painted and then also from past interviews where she talked to about Patrick's decision making, you know, she told him, you know, you got to pray about this. And mahomes did, and when the junior season rolled around, mahomes was still wrestling with, do I want to play football again? Or I safety in my quarterback, what kind of chance am I going to get here? And you know, his mom just said, you know, I do think you're going to regret it if you quit. Man, I just, I'm now thinking of like Patrick Mahomes slapping the floor. At Cameron indoor. I just can't, I can't handle this. Other reality you painted. Can you imagine this chapter, I mean, we'll see how the rest of the mahomes era ends, but this chapter of professional football has been altered by Patrick Mahomes. And the idea that we were, we might not have gotten it because of this moment, you know? It made my head explode a little bit. The sliding doors of the whole thing. But luckily, I guess, like he didn't quit football, spoiler alert, right? Like he kept on playing. But what happens at White House high school? Because mahomes was playing safety, his best friend, Ryan cheatham, was dominating the JV as quarterback. And so again, the starting quarterback question. What happens next? Well, the coaches were like, well, you're not going to play defensive back anymore. But we just need a little bit more time to figure this quarterback. I am now getting furious at these coaching. I'm not going to lie to you. I'm like, I'm mad on everyone's back. Well, it doesn't fly in the face of everything we think we know about quarterbacking. It's like the old cliche is like if you have two good quarterbacks, you don't have one, you know? These guys needed 5 years of looking at these two players. And it's just like, dude, make a decision already. Yeah, you might have one. You might have one here. So The White House started that year too and they were split and snaps. It was basically no different than it was in 7th grade, where here we are in 11th grade. And it's no different than when they were 7th graders. And finally, you know, a few people consider this sort of like, they speak about it with some religiousness in their voice. If that's even a word. But in the third game, the heavens opened up. You're playing one of their rival schools sulfur springs, and it was really ugly whether

"AP sports I'm David Schuster to NFL playoff games contested Saturday in Kansas City, Patrick Mahomes played through an ankle injury throwing a pair of touchdown passes as the chiefs down Jacksonville 27 20, Kansas City coach Andy Reid crediting his defense. I thought from the DBs to the defensive line to the linebackers, I just, again, my head goes off to the guys for that. Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, the eagles overwhelmed the Giants 38 to 7 with our Michael luongo in attendance. The eagle jumped to a 14 nothing for his quarterly on touchdown passes by a jail and hurts won the Dallas Goddard. The other devonta Smith first picked up a 5 yard touchdown run with 43 seconds to go in the first half, Boston Scott had a three yard touchdown one, maybe for the second quarter for the birds who were advanced to the NSA championship game for the first time since 2017. Coming up later Sunday, it will be Cincinnati at buffalo and Dallas at San Francisco. Lots of NBA action Saturday, Boston made it 9 straight wins, one O 6 one O four over Toronto, grant Williams scoring 25 points off the bench. As a role player in this league, you have to be prepared for any of those opportunities and you have to step up when the opportunity arises. And I feel like I try my best to do that and tonight shops went down and just continue to be aggressive. Evan mobley was aggressive scoring a career high 38 points as Cleveland defeated Milwaukee one 14 one O two, mobley's coach JB bickerstaff certainly impressed. You know, it's not just a particular quarter, but it's when winning matters the most. And I think he's got that gene when winning Mars is the most to rise to another level. And Minnesota coach Chris Finch had a bird's eye view, watching Anthony Edwards score 44 points as the T wolves defeated Houston one 13 one O four. Yeah, I mean, he was locked in all day. Chiefs, led by hobbled Mahomes, beat Jags 27-20 in playoffs
"Olympic Patrick Mahomes in a pair of late takeaways carried the chiefs to a 27 20 win over the Jaguars, putting Kansas City in the AFC title game for the 5th straight season. Mahomes missed most of the second quarter after Jags pass Russia Arden key landed on them, but the quarterback led the chiefs on a 75 yard fourth quarter touchdown drive. Mahomes passed for 195 yards and two scores. Travis Kelce had 14 receptions for 98 yards and two TDs. Trevor Lawrence threw for 217 yards, one touchdown, and a late interception for Jacksonville. "But on the other side of that, the chief's part of it, we'll see. We'll see if they're going to work themselves up for this game because this is the year that the chiefs pivoted from being all in every single year to taking the really wide lens view of it. We're going to get rid of Tyree kill. We're going to start to rebuild around Patrick Mahomes and build this dynasty for more than a decade. So I don't even know if they're looking at which is crazy to say because they're playing the bills, the ultimate measuring stick, if they're looking at this game as ultra important or just another step in being a really good regular season team that prepares them to peak at the right time in the postseason. Because Patrick, he's past this. He's past the Josh Allen MVP year. He's starting to be judged just in championships for success. And same with this whole chief's dynasty. What was the year in the bowl 6 championships? Was the year when they set the record? It wasn't the, I know, but I mean, was that the third one? It was the year after they lost to her. There's the fourth chase. Yeah, so, okay, yeah, yeah, so it's Jordan's first year back. Well, I mean, he came back, yeah, he came back midway through his first year back. And yeah, and there's something to be said for that. That's the reason why I was like, all right, we got a point to prove. And the same thing could be said for the warriors crazy 73 win season. What happened a year before that in the warriors? Did they lose the championship? No. They lost the day. They're weirdos. They wanted 15. Right, and then they lost a year. They went 73. Yeah. And the Cavs had a bunch of injuries and they're one year that they want. Anyway, I'm getting away from it. And draymond, hunch LeBron and the nuts, and that happens. Oh, draymond. We're not going to talk about gerrymandering today. We'll save some time for me. All right. That's enough time on that game. Let's go to the NFC. The surprise is the cowboys, the eagles we expect them to be here. The big conversation is like, who is this more important to, I think? And I actually find that kind of intriguing. It's one of those kind of stupid sports talk questions that we just throw out there that don't mean anything, but it kind of means something to me because I think it's obviously, even though the cowboys are trailing in a division, it seems obvious that the eagles still have to prove something to themselves. They destroyed the Vikings other than that, they don't really have an impressive win.

"Yeah, I can't go. I think I'd be more than a judge. I still would be more surprised by the bills winning by more than a touchdown. Just because I can't say I'm surprised by Patrick Mahomes win. That just feels like sacrilege. Well, it's just that we're coming off of probably the worst chief performance of the year in that first half of the Raiders game. And obviously, they got together they won that game. Even worse than I was gonna say that you made a mistake because they lost to the colts, but no, I actually think that this was a worse performance than you lost to the cold floss was a complete fluke. It was sort of like, it was sort of a special teams. It was like the bills dolphins game where the stats didn't actually reflect the result. Which is interesting. But we're also coming off of a bills game. Of course, they're playing this dealer at the bottom of the barrel team. But they just look like a complete, complete juggernaut. I just think we're going to have, this is the storyline game of the week, even more than cowboys eagles. I think we're going to come out of Monday with a clear one way or the other who we think is the Super Bowl favorite. Because on the other on the flip side of it, the bill is knock off the chiefs in mahomes raises his level to the way he did in the playoffs last year against the bills. We're going to be like, why did we ever doubt this? Patrick Mahomes has been QB one the whole thing. One thing that happens to the chiefs and probably happens to a lot of perennial competitive teams, like perennial Super Bowl competitors, is something happens different in the week of big games. If it's game planning, gets a little bit more focused, Andy and Vienna may are more willing to call their really special plays. We see a different version of the chiefs and big important games than we see in the games that they can sleepwalk through. You know, like the colts game, we saw some unimaginative play calling. We saw Kelsey dropping important passes. We saw mistakes in special teams. And the things that we don't really see from them like Kelsey had four touchdowns, and a prime time game. And we saw some of the more creative things that we have come to expect from them.

"Don't know if I could, or if someone asked me to bet something an amount of money that I care about, I feel like I can't just can't go against Patrick Mahomes and it's a logical, it's emotional, but we've seen him do it so many times. So many impressive things. And I guess our last memory of him is like turning into a terrible quote. Our last playoff memory of him is turning into a terrible quarterback for the second half of that championship game against the Bengals, but I also am a little down on them and we talked about this in the last part because they don't have a true number one and I think the difference between them and the bills is the bills have potentially two true number ones. I guess I don't know exactly how good Gabe Davis is because he's come up in a world where Stefon Diggs is the actual number one, but he's really good also. He's making really incredible big plays and tough situations. So the bills are the better team and I just I've got to pick them to win this week, but when they meet in the playoffs, which feels inevitable, I don't know if I can do that. What do you think? Okay, so this one's fascinating to me because well obviously it's fascinating because it's the matchup of the two best teams in the NFL. But beyond that, I think it's really interesting how our public perception has totally shifted on these teams and I say that because the bills are two and a half point road favorites in this game. And they open this two point favorite. So people are betting the bills up on the road in Kansas city. That's pretty indicative that we now trust Josh Allen, the regulations and quarterback as much or more than we trust Patrick Mahomes. And I don't really think that's wrong. The bills are operating as like a at this point. Statistically, it's like one of the top 5 offense as we've ever seen. But I don't really think that's what separates them from the chiefs right now. Yeah, they're awesome, but the chiefs are also number one and EPA. Offensively. And basically, I think the defense is the separating factor in this game. You think it's the receivers. I think it's the bills have one of the best defenses in the NFL. Yeah, that's fair. And even down one of their superstar safeties, their defense is still really good. They talk about this before how they take the pressure off of their corners because that's where their inexperienced at least until they get TRE davious white back who's a really great corner. Then this team gets even better. And they have a closer and we talk about like, I think the ravens are the best example of a team that was built and a complimentary fashion, like not this year necessarily but when the ravens were at their peak,

"Belichick, we sort of treat him like LeBron, where you kind of take his excellence for granted, but if there was every year to not take it for granted, it would be this one because incorporating a ton of free agents into his roster, he's got a rookie quarterback, rookie starters. He's doing a masterful job with this team. It's why the Patriots are in such a great position. Yeah, maybe GM of the year or two. All right, if the Cardinals and rams in a crucial Monday Night Football game right here on ESPN, Matthew Stafford feeling the pressure intensifying as they look through the postseason. I think, you know, the later you get into the season, you know, the games you don't have that many left and you gotta go out there and make them count. It's a big game in the division. We know that. It's fun to play on Monday Night Football. It's a big challenge for us being in their stadium. You know, that's a tough place to play, played their part a few times when I was in Detroit. So I know it's a tough place to play. So to go along with their team, you know, and the travel Monday night all that kind of stuff. It's going to be a challenge for us, we're excited about it. Our sea, we see Stafford in these rams get ready to go for another prime time game. Yeah. Listen, Matthew Stafford needs to be what they thought they were buying when they traded him for Jared Goff. He needs to be to do that elevates this offense, not the guy that throws pick 6s against Green Bay or against the Tennessee Titans. He has to find a way to make the people around him better because the Arizona Cardinals stomp a mud hole in the rams when they play previously. He can not allow that to happen again. Yeah? He said mud hole. All right, did you see this? Patrick Mahomes and Eric B enemy had a little disagreement on the sideline last week. Mahomes did clear the error on the situation. Today, he said it was a little mixed up with a play that they wanted to call in that situation, but Holmes said there were more frustrated at the game than each other and mahomes finished it by saying he talked it over and he and Eric Vietnamese have a lot of love for each other. Either way, it is a little shocking to see that happen right. I want to make too much of it Marcus, but who is to blame for the chiefs offensive struggles this season? All 15 because he has to leave these guys on the field. Look, we all know how good Patrick Mahomes is, and obviously there's miscommunication between coaches and quarterbacks a lot. We see guys get frustrated with coaches having to call time all to not getting to play in correctly. But Patrick Mahomes is the catalyst, all right? If we gonna give him half of a $1 billion, we gonna put some blame on it. When the team ain't doing what they supposed to be doing. So in this particular situation, I'm gonna give it to the mahomes. I ain't about the bad mouth here at the end of it. He threw a damn past issue. Okay, I will say this mahomes is accepted a lot of that blame and blamed himself. Maybe a silver lining here could be, maybe this is a bounce back game for him in his last 6 games when playing a team not named the Raiders. He's recorded a 32 VR and thrown two scores in four picks, but against the Raiders, 5 touchdowns, zero interceptions, leading to an 82 QBR, his completion percentage over expectation also increased by 15 points, and maybe he just stays play the Raiders. You see those statistics from homes versus Las Vegas. Should we expect more of the same from mahomes and the offense this time around? Laura, yes. I do. Biggest raiders are on defense. You know, mahomes and the chief's offense has struggled all year against those two high looks. The Raiders don't do that. They play cover three in part because they have to encounter their personnel. They don't blitz a lot. And I expect Patrick. And this cheese offense to have a similar level of success. What I want to see and if I was a teaspoon, would I be encouraged to see is something our colleague Dan Orlovsky talked about there being a lack of, which is deek shots in structure. I'm talking about go balls to Nicole Hardman. I'm talking about deep crossers. Tyreek hill, and I want to see Patrick Mahomes throw an accurate football more than 20 yards down the field because the opportunity will be there against Las Vegas. No, min is absolutely right. This game is perfectly set up for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs offense to excel. Gus Bradley is going to line up and do what he does. And now, many people who come from the same coaching tree as he does, they do that, but I also think it's personnel driven here. They don't have the personnel to do some of the things that have been giving the Kansas City Chiefs problems. And so after this game, we should see Travis Kelce again saying I guess I got my sweat back and shaking and shimmying. This team needs to ball out again, right? They need to feel that again because as much as Kansas City Chiefs fans want to point to the casting yards or point to the passing touchdowns, this offense is not playing efficiently and they're being carried by this defense. Oh, I just hope that we all have an excuse to shimmy on Monday. Marcus, the Kansas City defense has picked it up in the last few weeks. How do they keep it going in this matchup? Spags is in his bag. Listen y'all, this defense. That's right. We were blaming them earlier in the season. The offense was turning the ball over. But let me show y'all something that made me smile made my heart happy. This is a double a gap with the details. We always talk about this all day. Willie gay on the outside. Look how this occupies this guard with Chris Jones and Melbourne England who we have highlighted. Anybody because there is no pressure coming off the edge with the inside nickel corner and teddy Bridgewater is like, what the hell is this look? I don't know what to do. And before he could throw it, he said, this was a single pressure. Y'all, listen, I was studying this tape and I wanted to give you the sideline of you because of how beautiful it was. There is nowhere to go with this football. Unless this slot receiving where sneeze comes from turns around immediately and it's ready for the ball they can't. This is just magnificent. We talked about this with the Dallas Cowboys. Spags run bullets them and took away that and made them one dimensional. But a double a gap pressure with the detail 'cause y'all, I could cry. I just want to cry. I just want to be so you just have to use it. I'm going to do fun stuff. Shimmying up up in there. And they want to hold and occupy and everybody know they drop it out. When Chris Jones and then he was lined up in the interior, they knew what the hell was about to happen and they couldn't do nothing about it. Stay in your bags, bags. Exactly. You know, just a little peel back of the curtain. Marcus sent a video so incredibly excited about this particular play and plays that he sent it to our producer Mark eisman. And by the way, that video lives on Marc Heisman's phone. And so we may have to release it to the public. Yes, it does. New one NFL live from music. As rayner's tight end Darren Waller is out against Kansas City. Also linebacker Denzel perryman could be a game time decision, probably speaks even more into the conversation we were just having. Let's get the latest on injury news around the league, some huge names are in question, Phil Yates, what do we need to know right now starting with Alvin Kamara? Yes, some great news to start off this injury rip here right now, Laura as Alvin Kamara's miss multiple games because of a knee injury is back. He's off the injury report. He will play on Sunday against the New York jet. That's good news for the saints because he's their best offensive player. It's also good news because Mark Ingram and time Montgomery are both on the reserve COVID-19 list and thus unlikely to play on Sunday wouldn't surprise me if Alvin Kamara has his busiest day of the season, moving to Cincinnati where the Bengals may not have seen a ton of Joe burrow this week throwing it, but he is question was gonna play on Sunday. Remember he had that inflamed pink you after a hit he took last week. He's good to go. He's gonna play on Sunday. Meanwhile, Joe Mixon did not practice hardly at all this week because he's been sick with a non COVID illness. He too is expected to play on Sunday. He scored a 9 straight game that seemed pretty good to me. People Samuel was iffy listed officially as questionable. We know he missed last week's game because of a groin injury however there are some building optimism he will play on Sunday for San Francisco, not a certainty, but they do play, of course, in Cincinnati, they saw last week what their offense looked like without him. It was plenty of George kittle, no Elijah Mitchell expected in this game, but perhaps Devo Samuel is back and then some unconventional injury news here in NFL live. Bruce Arians had an inflamed Achilles earlier on this week. He's.

"We know bucks a difference. Absolutely. And buck strength is a lymph. Can you so long? You can't be both of his body. He's a phenomenal pass rusher. I believe that the bills will try to test the interior of this offensive line for the Nepal's coach. 99 has done it at a very high level, but we know him for getting after the passer. This is a book of your chin strap type game for deforest buck. We're going to Sunday afternoon four 25. We are going to go Zack Martin the best garden football versus Chris Jones. I think Zack marks probably coming off of a game that he didn't play that one. But when you look at this matchup and we talked about this earlier. Right. Put your eyes squarely on this one America. This may determine how this 95 goals. It may absolutely determine. I know you will be locked in on Patrick Mahomes and that press got this matchup right here. I'll make a bed deal. The guy that wins this matchup, his team will win the game. That's good. But what are we betting? We've been we'll figure something out. Let's what we did. Yeah, I'm gonna suggest new pants for both of you after all. We'll go twin. Oh my goodness. That's good. "Tries to pass that he probably shouldn't. Mahomes steps up, doesn't throw initially fine time throws tried to force it in. Off the bounce Tennessee has got it. And we've seen those time and time again. This season for Patrick Mahomes. The next possession Patrick Mahomes scrambles and then he fumbles the football while trying to get additional yards. And mahomes will keep going. Loses the football Tennessee has got it. Nothing is working for the chiefs. And so there is a real snowball effect. And teams now know the best way to beat the chiefs is to try to take the ball from them and then continue to kind of keep them in that place, not let the chiefs sort of rally in game confidence. I mean, you mentioned daring and him being fearless and creative and obviously that goes back to what he was before, and those stories that you wrote about. So is it possible that opposing defenses are just more prepared for those things now? And those aren't really working for him as much as they used to? It's a great question Tiffany and I think this has been something that's been in the making since 2018, right? I think opposing defensive coordinators and players on defense were utterly amazed by what mahomes could do in 2018. And there was really no defense designed to stop this. But I think defense is so starting to realize that they should not blitz my homes. He's the least blis quarterback in the league. So if you have 7 defenders out in coverage, well, hey, if a ball is tipped, there's another defender nearby for an interception. And so what defenses are trying to do is to prevent a deep pass from mahomes. That is what he is so effective at. It's what makes the chiefs offense so potent. A deep pass from Patrick Mahomes to tyreek hill the fastest receiver in the league, well, now safety user playing 20 to 15 yards off the ball. It's made mahomes have to think a little bit more, which means, well now I gotta force the issue. Now I have to initiate something that create a.

"Of dollars on the lines adrenaline pumping through your veins. I have no issue with guys getting hyped. So you know what i'm with you matt although i would not get a tattoo couldn't do it. I was kinda hoping we can make a secret pact after the show And just not go public with it. But i guess you're out What what tattoo we get in what are you. I could be swayed by the final score of the chargers game. No matter what happens. Hey i wanna talk one more thing Can we talk patrick. Mahomes for a second. Of course begin. Do we're talking. Sheaves football of course batter knows. Because here's the thing. No one is talking about. Patrick mahomes and everyone should be talking about patrick. Mahomes i i I saw a couple of people today. Say hey if. I was voting for mvp today. Which is silly by the way but they were saying number one would be like derek carr. Tom brady was up there. You know a couple of people like no one's talking about my homes. And so but i'm looking at my home stat and then it's two games small sample size. I get it. The patrick mahomes is playing on a level. He's never played before and yet patrick mahomes as other seasons are on a level that no one's ever seen before but like like let me just say this mahomes completing like seventy six percent of his passes and his career-best is sixty six percent so that's that's ten percent more than normal last year. He led the nfl with three hundred sixteen yards per game. He's averaging twenty six year or twenty four more yards than that but he's averaging three forty this year he's averaging ten. This is crazy. Ten point seven five net yards per attempt over. I now per an attempt. He's never even done above nine before but now he's almost into eleven in terms of those metrics. That's insane. Patrick is throwing more accurately and deeper than ever before. He's on pace. He only plays sixteen games and sits out the seventeen. He's gonna be forty eight touchdowns against only six interceptions. I mean this is a guy who is. He's taken his game to another level and the line in front of him is only going to get better. The chiefs only going to acquire probably some more offensive at the deadline if they so choose like like mahomes has cranked up his game. And no one is noticing. And i'm just thinking if the nfl's best overall player can improve game at this level like like we all should be talking about it. And we're not and i just to talk about it. no. I love that. You brought that up. I think the offensive line has been a huge help for the past block. I mean again. They haven't been great. You know run game run blocking the but pass blocking has been a noticeable improvement especially in the interior. Patrick has had a lot of time. Been under duress much fewer times. Giving patrick time is a death sentence. he'll just pick you apart. And that's what he's done like you said he's completing all these passes also ten point. Seven five yards was at ten point seven yards per attempt.

"Thanks to patrick mahomes. And you know on a personal note You know this is the kind of person that i have found. Patrick mahomes to be early in me. Getting to know him a little bit and look everybody always says. Well you know mahomes. I don't know mahomes talk to three times a year. I mean that's not knowing somebody. But what i really appreciate about him is that i reached out to the To the franchise. When i was doing my replacement collins my guest columns this summer and i said listen. I'm gonna write about tarez paler and tarez paler for those of you. Don't know he was a football columnist for yahoo sports. Thirty seven years old He he is black and he's been a friend of mine. I'm not. I was not close to tarez but i was getting to know him more and more and this year on the day after the super bowl tarez paler died And so i- he's only. He was only thirty seven years old. So those losses felt obviously in the sports writing road but it's also felt where he lived in kansas city. Patrick mahomes new tarez paler. Well they had a great relationship. And i reached out to the chiefs. Would patrick be willing to write a short essay. Six or seven hundred words for the top of my column on tarez paler attribute collins tarez paler and basically trying to get people to donate money to a scholarship fund at tarez paler alma mater alma mater howard university. Which i thought was so important for very single reason. I started covering the nfl. Nineteen eighty-four. i'd go into a press box. I mean there might be one hundred and fifty people in that press box. Maybe three of them were black. And now i go into a press box. And if i go into a press box with two hundred and fifty people and i'm generalizing maybe thirty or black so progress is being made. But it's still not nearly enough. And so i wanted to make sure that people understood that and i asked patrick mahomes. He agreed to do it and he did it very very well. And i really wanted him to address that aspect of it the fact that we need to see more black reporters covering the nfl. And that's one of the reasons why he wrote this piece for my column and why. He is such a big advocate for the scholarship fund. At howard tarez paler. He wants another generation of sports writers. Who don't look like me to be able to find homes covering the national football league and quite honestly to just be writing about anything leaving college these days because journalism is so important anyway. My thanks to patrick mahomes. You should know that and you should know that. hey look. It didn't take three days to do this but he took time out of his off season to do that. And i am appreciative. So let's go on to my conversation. It chargers training camp last week with the rising star quarterback the los angeles chargers just in herber question. I wanted to ask you for months. Is week two of the season last year. You're standing there. You're backing up. Tyrod taylor and all of a sudden you're told you're in you've never played a live snap in the nfl in your life and now you're having to go out and play against the kansas city chiefs. Can you take me back to that moment in. Describe what it was like and then what you're thinking going on the field at that moment. Of course. I think it's one of those moments that you know i. I've looked to my entire life and being able to go out there and play football in the national football league against the reigning. Super bowl champs. I i don't think it's much better than that and As quickly as it happened. You didn't have to worry about anything you just go. How quickly did it happen. It was maybe maybe fifteen to twenty seconds kickoff and You didn't have to worry about it. as coach anthony lynn. So he comes up to he goes. You're in and i didn't have my helmet so i had to go get my helmet. Did you ask them why. No i just said all right and because we're about to receive the kickoff and i needed to get the plan you you'd get my helmet and there was things that needed to happen really quickly so i i had to run over there and get it but Fun though and then when you went out to the huddle did anybody say anything to you like. Hey kid what are you doing here. I don't think any of them. New hunter henry for the first time when he saw me out there he he almost said you know. What are you doing here. And i just said you know what run play. We're gonna run the plane and hand it off and we're going to get five yards so that's kind of how it went down but It was it was kind of funny. There did anybody on the defense. Say anything to you at that moment. A couple of guys. It kind of started spread throughout the sideline. And i remember. Joey came up to joey. Bosa and slapping on the shoulder and said all right. It's time to go. it's up to you now. And i remember thinking like oh it's my turn you know i get to go out there and play football and To have the support of those guys out there made it a lot easier and then did anybody on the chiefs. Say anything to you when you came up to the line no It was it was really quite and especially with fans out there. Either it was kind of a weird introduction to the nfl but It's funny the way it worked out..

"Saint this. The same man who in training camp once upon a time was telling us just how good patrick mahomes was looking so. Dan teach us something about justin fields. The young bears quarterback greenie. When i played under steve mariucci as a quarterback. He would tell us you. Don't stop gathering information. Just because the play is over you can continue to get clues or he would call them. Bread comes even between plays. And i think justin feels that against clemson in the college football playoff. It's a perfect example of his intelligence. Now i want everyone to pay attention to what clemson is going to be doing defensively. This safety is going to be the clue for everything and justin is going to go. I got my eyes on you for you to tell me to find some bread crumbs now. The play concept defensively for clemson. Is that these really responsibility. Is this half of the field okay. Like that's his responsibility. Depending on the past concept. Chris lobby at the bottom of the screen is going to have a post road. But the real concept for offense is gonna be he's gonna have a wide and hitch a senior and then across her. It's full progression. One two three to four that post her justin field. This is like a pre snap alert. Or if somebody on the defense tells you something now justin's going to drop back okay. I'm understanding that. That's our past concept. Now i want you to pay attention to that safety. Everyone that safety right now. Justin speaking out there. I don't like number one. That guy's getting wide number twos not sitting there but watch that safety watched that safety. Where's he's supposed to be deep. Is he getting too deep. Is he supposed to because justin steps back and he's like honda safety's not their post. I really wanted to throw that post. That safety is not where he's supposed to be. I gotta lobby deep. That safety collapsed on my crossing route. But i can't get that ball to him even though that safeties there. I can't get that ball to them because this pass rush is not allowing me to push that ball down the field. Okay pay attention. Remember where i told you that safety was. I got to throw that ball away. But something here told me. Justin's finding breadcrumbs is is. This is right now. He's staring at that safety. You're not supposed to be where you're supposed to be. I know the place over. But i'm gonna make sure that i hurt you. I'm not going to allow you to do that again. Now here's gonna be that same safety. He's just in a different spot. He's not down here he's up top that same guy. It's the same player. he's also got the same kind of defense that's his responsibility. You gotta cover that side of the field now. This is six plays later in the same. Dr justin didn't go to the sideline. You talk with this coach. He did this himself in the same drive. Six plays later now. The past contents. The concept is going to be very similar. Number one is on an out route. That is number one. He just happened to apple lobby. A unopposed again for step that same safety from the previous clay. Now just as good a drawback now. I know ryan date tells him. Hey if number one is open throw to one is open. He's wide open. Throw it to him unless somebody on the defense tells you you can get that post. Johnson's go you know. I don't want number one. Because i know that guy. Last time we ran this play was where he's not supposed to and i'm gonna make him pay for it. You don't allow that guy to not be in that part of the field again when you got that post. He snaps his head back. And he's gonna drive that post and that these get penalized for not being where he's supposed to be now. Everyone's saying will. Andy dalton got experienced. He does. He does put the tape for justin fields tells you he's got the intelligence. It says easy chicago. He's your starter at so good. I could watch those all day long and so.

"Box win the super bowl. Tom brady you are the ban. You are the go tampa bay. Rays are going to the world series back tampa bay so hot right now is a lighten captured the second consecutive stanley cup last night. That means lord stanley will return to tampa. But you're not hockey in the thirty. Four point five pound cup isn't going to be tossed anytime soon as it reminded. Tom brady via twitter as you can see right here but before the cup gets too comfortable brady reminded us from his own sweet. That a little courage go a long way in boost anybody's strength as you see right here. I don't know everything feels a bit lighter after some tequila. I can't confirm that. Maybe the guys here a little bit about it though. Law key marcus beers. jeff darlington. I am marcus. Let me ask you. I think it can make the toss of this cut. They'll yeah field. I couldn't get the liquid courage. I get weaker but look like brady get strong. I don't know what any i don't know what role do anyway. So he'll probably toss that too and we'll get more serious here. I guess we'll talk about football and jeff. We'll begin with you on this brady and the bucks experiment could it be the buccaneers who won the super bowl last year. Convincing fashion are actually ahead of schedule. At this point in the tom brady era so they are and i basis off of some conversations that i have season including one with tom brady in which i pointed out toward lake in the regular season to some of the offense. We started to click to which he responded. Just wait until next year and this is the thing but when you talk to people within the organization nicb recognize midseason exactly clicking never say hey this is a process probably more like a two year process. This is now situation where they're basically planning with the house of money. When it comes to appealing usually the hard one is the second one in the case of the bugs. The hardwood actually feels more. Like the first one. I should put out this though. They're all hard and is not easy to repeat. Yoga's just ask the kansas city chiefs here. It's been a long time. We've seen one in the nfl in terms of super bowl champion. But dan if the bucks. Don't repeat next year. What will be the headline the morning. After their final game of the season it would say that washington football team turns the hands of time and they're giant front four knocks. Tom brady around guys like that. We're pretty good. I'm really proud of you. Really do yeah thank you. It's that simple for me. It's not about what team can outscore their offense going to have a better wide receiver. What defense can come down there. It's going to be what front four can whoop the tampa. Bay buccaneers offensive front five. And if we're looking at just like let's focus on the nfc. What team has like that. That make that defensive makeup that you know. They've got dominant front for it's washington by a mile. Maybe outside of the los angeles in the conversation. That's also the team that had a little bit of success against the bucks in the playoffs last year. With addition of william jackson and the back end in allen in the middle the second year for some of their defensive lineman out obviously the big boy from ohio state case young. This defensive front four is going to be outstanding. And i think it's the most equipped defensively to beat the bucks. Yeah as we saw it in that playoff game as you mentioned dan taylor heineke nearly went toe to toe with tom. Brady for at least most of that game but a team was not able to go toe to toe with. Tom brady for much of a game last year with the chiefs as their quarterback. Patrick mahomes could not find a way with depleted offensive line. he joined. i take earlier today and spoke about coming up short in that game and fortifying his budding rivalry with tom brady. I think i did a little bit more When right after the game happen at this point. I'm at the point where i'm ready to go for this next season. I think that's the best thing about this league. Is that you start. You start from scratch every single year and we have the team on the players and make a run at it. We have to put in the work every single day and we one day. Have that lebron. Michael jordan debate with you and tom brady. I mean it's it's still early for the liberal and michael jordan stuff but for me if you're in this league you're trying to win. You're trying to be the best player on that football field every single day. Tom's done it for a long time. And he's won a of super bowls and so when you're coming up and you're watching football. You want to go out there and win championships. Like he's done And so i'm gonna try to do whatever i can to every single year. Put us in position. We can win a lot of championships. Hopefully swag you petrov's entering his fifth season in the nfl. Tom brady the right. Comparison is a player. Yes the right comparison when you talk about career accomplishments right now. Patrick mahomes is a better quarterback. Tom brady when it comes from physical attributes. The things he's able to do tom brady. Never could but the the thing that everybody is chasing about tom. Brady's the level of consistency at a high level of play for an extended period of time. And it involves more than just a quarterback when you look at what the new england patriots way. But do tom. it was three. It was a three headed monster. It was robert kraft. It was bill belichick and it was tom brady. And those things never changed and for patrick mahomes. He may go through a transition with a new head coach. If andy reid hangs it up well presumably before he decided to retire. If you think about the the general manager who's done a tremendous job in kansas city. Is he going to stay in place. But based on what we see now for patrick mahomes and the way the kids see these teams have committed to making sure they he a team around him and keep him protected. That is the right cup. And i know as far fetched the thing that minute super bowls that many times. Think about this. Fella's patrick mahomes five years through super bowl appearances one. Afc championship appearances in that time. So it's not far fetched to think about it right now. For patrick mahomes mark. That's a really good point about the consistency that existed in new england. And the one thing that i find interesting is right now. Patrick mahomes is still in this phase. Where where he's winning. He's invincible. Tom brady has talked about that about how it didn't. It wasn't until probably the twenty ten kind of of tom brady that. He realized how hard it was to do what he did early in his career. When you're going to back to back super bowls winning one winning. Mvp's just able to do anything that you want to do on the field. If feels easy and brady's point that overtime you start to realize how challenging that is for now. Mahomes is nice fees. what happens when he does it. Some of the inevitable adversity. I think he'll he seems to be personality. That will persevere but certainly that is something that i look forward to finding out the superbowl was certainly his thing really. The first major roadblock of patrick mahomes career but dan sometimes we forget young. Homes is them much as accomplishing skill. Set what did expect to see from a homes on the field. This season. the best offense we've seen since he took over as their starting quarterback and it's because of this revamped offensive line. This is going to be one of the better offensive lines in the nfl. Not just okay but better. And if we think about the chiefs offense under patrick mahomes it's really been like pass game with the sprinkle of run game now. It's going to be passed game the kind of heavy dose or the ability to get a heavy dose of their run game. Everyone needs to understand when play. Callers andy reid and eric van in the first question they always ask themselves to start their game planning is what will our offensive line. Allow us to do this week as a defense or an offense versus the deepens right now with this offense vine they can sit there and go. What does the defense have somebody that can match the speed of tyreek hill. And then the defense have somebody that can match the skill set of travis kelsey and then the defense have somebody that can match against clyde over dealer both in the run in the past game the.
