Doug Giles Shares the Premise of 'Psalms of War' Book

"Of war that we discussed a few months ago. Tell us what that is in case people missed that program. Yeah, the book songs of war prayers are literally kick ass. It's a compendium of 28 imprecations. Wait a minute, wait a minute. Wait a minute. See, I can't let that go. That's so sums of war colon, prayers, go ahead, prayers that literally kick ass. That literally kick ass. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a family program. We have no problem using the term balaam's ass on this program. This is so funny. So sums of war prayers that literally kick us. These are called the imprecatory psalms, right? These are the ones where we're praying judgment down on evil on our enemies. Right. Yeah, and a lot of Christians are like, oh, Eric and Doug, we can't do that, that's for Old Testament times where God was an old meanie and now we've got sweet and cuddly 7 pound 13 ounce baby Jesus. And he has nary a Pete bad to say about evil leaders in their imaginations. And unlike widow, I can read and when I read Christ in the scripture, Matthew 22 43, he said that the imprecatory psalms on two that David wrote was inspired by this person called the third person of the godhead, the Holy Spirit. And so a lot of Christians back off from these imprecation Eric, they don't want to pray these harsh prayers, but listen, if we've got implacable enemies that are impenitent, that they are spot well that the bad ideas and demonic powers, then we don't go nice with them. We pull out this 44 Magnum dirty hairy prayer. This tomahawk missile, and we launch it at the powers of darkness, and yes, sometimes there are some human collateral damage, but they're in the Bible,

Tackling Cattle, Biting Kneecaps: The Detroit Lions' Cowboy Coach

"So kristen eck. We've got to start the story in january of this year at dan campbell's introductory press conference. I wanted this job bad. Because i felt like i knew this community i played here all right on. Everything's seemingly normal and then things get a bit more interesting. I can sit up here and give you coach. Speak all day long. I can give you You know. Hey we're gonna win this many game. I can't that none of that matters in you. Guys don't want to hear it anyway. You've had enough of that shit. So excuse my language then. He drops his magnum opus. So this is going to be built on. We're gonna kick you in the teeth all right and when you punch us back. We're going to smile at you and when you knock us down we're going to get up and on the way up we're going to buy to kneecap off all right and we're going to stand up and then it's going to take two more shots you cover the team for the athletic. What was your reaction to this. I mean i think like everyone else. I was sort of just in shock for a few minutes. Just trying to figure out where he was going with everything but as we'll talk about. I'm sure that was very much dan campbell. I think the people who know him weren't all that surprised to hear that speech from him. It was funny to hear you know brad. Homes in new. General manager was introduced at the same time and he said several times since. I'm glad i got to go first. Because i don't think i could follow that up but i i think that that's you know that's what you get from dan campbell and i think that's what they wanted from dan campbell. They wanted some energy and some authenticity. And i think the fan base really responded to it. I don't know how the players necessarily took it or people in the general public but for this particular fan base. I think it went over pretty well. Neko ear thoughts when you heard it a big pro wrestling fan l. admission here and that's what that was a professional wrestling promo is having talked to him since talking all these guys for the story like he didn't planet it wasn't scripted. It was something that he said and you can kind of tell because he when he said the kneecaps thing he did it like exclaim it he just sort of set it like the most nonchalantly normal way is like to. We're going to play when your kneecaps off. And then he just kept going to the next point. It's like this is just what this guy. This is off the cuff. You could kind tell. And i think that there was a lot of authenticity with that

A Look at Farallon Industries

"Couple of months ago. I told you about a guy who dropped off some vintage scuba quip at the shop. One of the regulators was an old poseidon cyclone and that spurred me to segment on poseidon here on the show. I also mentioned that the cyclone was complete with a set of farallon gauges and that there were a pair of farah line fins that were unfortunately torn so they got me thinking about doing some additional research on fairlon and doing a segment here on the show. I gotta tell you. Researching on industries was a bit of a challenge. It was difficult for me to piece the information together. So some of this may be a little bit out of sequence. Let's start at the beginning. Or what i think is the beginning from my research. I believe it was somewhere around. Nineteen sixty nine. That guy named ralph osterhaudt was working on a diver propulsion vehicle or dp that he called the mark one. It seems that this was pretty successful. Product and the us navy decided to purchase two dp marquand from ralph and it appears that that's when he started foulon industries. Farallon is the name of a small group of islands about twenty six miles due west of san francisco. I wasn't familiar with the farallon islands but found out some interesting stuff about them from what i read. They were originally called the islands of the dead by native americans and then given the name farallon meaning cliffs by the spanish. I'm not exactly sure. Why ralph named is company farallon industries. Farallon was based in belmont california which is between san francisco in palo alto on the san francisco bay side. The address was listed as one three three three old country road. But when i google map data address it came up with one three three three county road now. I like to take a look at the street view at these locations to see what it looks like today and today one three three three county road in belmont california looks like a self storage facility. One of the ways that i researched founded on industries was to look back at old trademark registrations impacts when registering a trademark or patent near sometimes a description of the business on one of those registrations the businesses described as as a california corporation producing goods and services for skin and scuba divers equipment namely self-propelled vehicles for transporting scuba divers. Interestingly i saw a fair aligned dp up for auction just yesterday. I think one of their most famous patents was also in early one. It looks like it was around seventy one and that was the shock dart famous because of its uses a prop in nineteen seventy five blockbuster draws the shark dart is described in the patent as a compressed gas injector weapon including parts. Therefore you may also see these come up for auction from time to time and complete rig gets pretty pretty expensive now. There were a whole lot of patent issued to caroline industries in the nineteen seventies. It looks like it looks like there was another row involved with foulon who is also inventor and that was ralph sham champion in an old article that i read who's identified as the president of farah line industries and was listed on a number of different patents. So let's take a look at some of these products in one thousand nine hundred seventy four. It looks like they submitted a patent for a decompression indicating instrument and it said it was an analog computer then in one thousand nine hundred seventy five. They produced a pressure gauge and started to design fins over time. They introduced the farah thin the fahrenheit which was a rechargeable hand-held light and then in one thousand nine hundred seventy eight farallon industries was issued a patent for a pilot regulator that said it incorporated a novel valve assembly in the second stage in the form of a unique main diaphragm valve and a pilot valve assembly. Now i did try to trace. What actually happened to farrell on. There's some indication that it was acquired by a company called tacna. But if you look on the oceanic website they say that. Bob hollis took a big step forward with oceanic when he acquired foulon industries around nineteen seventy six giving oceanic full line of scuba equipment with an innovative line of instrumentation products. I'm not exactly sure when oceanic stop branding their products with the farallon logo. I did find a price list and catalog. from nineteen seventy eight. They're still showed a lot of the farallon. Products including their low profile pragmatic mask their patented molded mouthpiece swim snorkel. The farah light farah fins and all their instrumentation they were also still producing four versions of their diver propulsion vehicle. The mark to the mark sri mark for mark five. Interestingly in that cadillac. I did see that. Both the farallon. An oceanic logos were shown together. And oh by the way you could still get the shark dot and he came in two flavors the magnum supreme in the magnum super. Well i knew. When i started this research on farallon line industries that would be a little more challenging than some of the other companies that i've researched farah line. Industries wasn't around very long but it looks like they did some really interesting

"But let's hear what the past sake has to say. Go say the president gave an entire speech on it and will continue to speak about what he's doing of. In other words, he's doing nothing. He's going after gun dealers. That gun dealers irresponsible. Like killers or would be killers are gang members are Drug pushers that coming into a store. Hey, Yeah. I'd like to purchase a Yeah, a nine millimeter. Okay. 3 57 Magnum, Okay. Yes, I would like to do that. I'd like to get some hollow points, please. Oh, sure. I need you to fill out this form. It's going to go through the FBI database. It's going to take about a half hour. I'd like you to fill it out. Do you have any past criminal activity? What Watch your social Security number. What? What's your name? What? Not giving you all that information man. Those of us who have filled out these forms. This is so unserious. It's so ridiculous. That's not how killers get guns. They go into a gun dealer. And fill out federal government forms and sit there and wait 30 minutes for it to go through the system. And if you have a past record, you don't get the gun. Unless a period of time goes by, But you don't get it in 30 minutes. Everybody knows that who purchase of the weapon? So this isn't what happens. Wouldn't it be interesting if one of these news groups would actually go into a gun dealership and show people how it works, not play? Gotcha. Not advance, an idea. Just go in and show.

"So how's he acclimating to mid south. i mean obviously. He likes the push he's giving. But he's running with the new batch of characters. And i'm sure not everybody's tickled that he has leapfrogged some of those guys along the way and he's making towns up and down the road left and right That's gonna wear anybody down. How's how's he acclimating to mid southie think main things. He has to acclimate to the travel. I think he did a pretty good job of that. But you know fatigue sit in oftentimes and the more often than not. Instead of having a systematic way of giving talents days off you notice. Most wrestling officers would ride. Just as far as you could you. Could you could be rid until you raise your hand and So sometimes towns go to bill side. I need you know the some some of the smaller clubs and you take them off those so this they could rest but travels always going to be the enemy of that territory always was and always if it was all in the same pretense or all car trips the same thing so the travel was always going to be as big as enemy and getting some time off to let his body wrist. Some things you know awful lot town. Magnum holds the state championship for five months before dropping into euro. Great close personal friend. Mr on october sixteenth lad would defeat him in a title rematch the next month and it feels like this might be magnum easing out of the territory. What are you remember about this match with. Ernie and ernie coming out victorious. Well was bills guy and my god to that matter. The booker Everything ran through cowboy. He met at everything but they did that. either daily on the phone. And then they did it with meat on tuesdays. I can sit and all those booking meetings with ernie ladd bill watts and shreveport writing those the next two nights television and Then then i would add. That was on tuesday nights or we did that. 'cause during the day on tuesday we do the interviews and talk about the interviews. Who's doing good good. Promo baw baw baw. How can we make this better. So i got to spend a lot of time. With ernie earnings say net burst of all people still believing in earning down that far the woods and he a great respect from the fan base. It'd been around forever. He was earning the big cat ladd. Who feats covers the ground. He walked saw thought a man. What do you say. I'd rather fight men and kissel baby crazy bastard. But don't so. That was our day to day on tuesday conrad Interviews from about ten until about two maybe three Food booking meeting cowboy get sleepy. Ernie wants to play dominos. So we go to my room. Alison ronan down the lower floor. Same room and we'd open the patio door so we could smoke and brother. Did we smoke. So men aren't even played dominoes. Sometimes till the middle seriously three or four in the morning and it was very competitive to say the very least. But i knew when i do my job so i get to bed because he wasn't going to leave on a downward note so somebody had to do the honors. Conrad i've ended up. I did it through. The i'm no game just to get a little bit more sleep so it was a fun fun. Time to be around magna's help make it that way because he'll make business better. We ernie was a safety net because ernie could work face in some towns the more naturally as a heel in most towns so There's a lot of ways to book. Ernie until cowboy made a decision. Who is going to be ernie successor. It's been said over the years that rick. Flair essentially became like a low key recruiter for jim crockett promotions. He's working as the world champion. He's of course living out of charlotte north carolina but the of world champion is booked all over the world so he gets to see talent far and wide and allegedly. He's responsible for helping recruit the midnight express and rock and roll express. and before. you know it even magnum. Ta is leaving to go to jim. Crockett promotions and happens not too terribly long after. Ernie ladd is victorious. D think in an again. I'm asking you to remember something from gosh forty years ago was magnum giving notice here. Something to do with ric flair. If you had to go back and pay in play. Detective probably not. I think it was re- again. There was a game plan in place at another new with rick nothing And rick the midnight express and all again all due respect to to nate. They weren't they weren't a secret. Everybody knew how good they were and everybody also knew how they were working for. The von eric's so and that was a no brainer. I mean that's i would suggest to you that probably Jcp was the designated preferred spot of a rival for midnight. Express if you ask them back in those days so you know i But rick was in a perfect position commanded and still does so much respect and he's laying is and so many great talents that abound to stick so that was a kind of a nice. Little perk kraken had a long as rick. Was the traveling champion. Rick got to give the feedback on a lot of really good talents over the years i would assume or who not to take..

Jr pg and at some point. I'll be playing. It don't really know when that's going to be but that's enough rambling We did have fell. Calm day Twenty twenty winter addition and we got a few tidbits of information about the new legend of heroes. Toddle kiro no koseki if you notice the thumbnail for this Podcast are the two newest main characters is a third as well but these They dig use some high-rise resolution images of the to unsure why the third one was kind of like ashaari pow We'll get you later but still no names for these two characters but we do have a bit of information stuff. You see that image. There's a couple other on our facebook and twitter feed of those two characters while they are. I say have that trails feel to them. I do kind of agree with what president condo said last time that at mediate Glance they don't appear to be trails characters. And i believe that lies in the fact that they are from calvert So they're going to look a little bit different and we'll talk about that in just a little bit. These illustrations were drawn by katsumi. Nama and the other characters are from alcom. Like i said the character's names were not announced to this game is coming out sometime in twenty twenty one in japan so those were the images. There were some other ones as well. If you'd like to see all those. I did put up a slide show video on our youtube channel. So you can check those out if you don't feel like clicking through pictures of via the website here is what we do know and i will just read this to you as this is the about for the new age of heroes karoo new koseki beyond the blue sky ahead of flashing light a land. A dawning resides cuba. There's no spoilers going on in here. This is all preliminary stuff in the news story arc. So we don't have to worry about that type of stuff the ladder this latter half of the trails. There is about to begin. The setting moved to the calvert republic in two thousand and twenty one foul calm release. Legend heroes kernigan the latest entering the trail serious as its fortieth anniversary rumors of work. The calvert nation is a multi ethnic nation experiencing unprecedented economic growth. Brought about by post war reparations. In a corner of the capital of a huge nation were immigration issues bringing about political instability. Okay well maybe. There are some spoilers in here okay. let's just get to the best. I'm sorry i read that. And i didn't think about it until just now okay. The command style action time bow system. You didn't previous trails. Titles has been revamped and that's going to set up an from a couple people. Let's just see what they said. Seamlessly transitioned from action oriented field battles to turn based commands battle to turn based command battle systems while making use of the unique elements the sixth generation combat or meant would try to pronounce his last time. I'm not sure how it is x. I f. r. x. i. p. h. a. z. Feel in a ballots to evolve from the previous trails titles. Okay so what does that mean. I don't. I don't know i really don't know how to had say seamlessly transition from action oriented field battles to turn based command battle systems I i mean obviously there's a bit of an extra element when you strike the enemies on the field in order to go into the turn based battle i. I need to see this in action to really know what they're even beginning to talk about would just have to wait and see You will feature many elements you laws. It's setting including a topics system which enabled together until such topics by communicating with. Mpc's out towns tra- gate situations in your favor when you act as a spray gun and that is the The character it's basically a detective. But they're calling them spring and alignment flame system. In which characters three alignments great and chaotic fluctuate depending on your own style influencing various status allies and adversaries and even scenario developments please look forward to allege heroes lowest entrance toasters depicted enrich expression by thumbs new original ingen. So that's that's pretty cool Here's what how they set up the situation and I get. I don't wanna get too much into this. The to emit the two people that you see in the image the one is the one call the speaker those are they say sometimes detective somedays negotiators and other days as bounty hunters. They're up for any job from any client. That's pretty cool And then the other one is Say to be a school girl wearing uniform. Prestigious school visits a rundown building located in old town in cowards capital. So that's the setting that's beginning of it. You can check out those images. Like i said there's a third character in the images as well with the two swords on his back and some long hair but we don't have any details. There is a battle scene that shows what looks like to be a craft or an art powering up but that from that snippet it does look to be turn based. So don't i'm so confused as to what to make. But i'm certainly excited about this one. But the lack of details and the promise of something new is leading to some question marks popping up. And i don't necessarily love that idea but it is what it is and until we learn a little bit more. It's just going to be speculation Unfortunately though that wasn't the only bit of information. And i'm sure we'll have a bunch more but Foul calm day twenty twenty winter. Also let us know about and this is not really affecting us as much. But they did. Say that a hatch marco koseki which is the one before this one and after cold steel four Clouded leopard entertainment will release a switch. Pc esteemed version of the game Sometime in summer. Twenty twenty one in japan in asia. I'm nearly positive. That's the same company that handled The transition for coastal three and four to the top of my head. So i came out for. Ps four in japan on august twenty seventh. So you know nearly a year later. They're talking summer to get that Switch pc version now. It handles the asian side of this and i s america handles the translation available. At least they have for the past two games In the cold still series in the west still no confirmation that that translation is ongoing. That have to assume that it is unless it's being handled by other parties I mean exceed did do the first two trills of cold steel games but at imagine that they are going to do this hedge amari as well and as soon as i hear something about that it will happen. It's certainly a good thing that this is happening and It could lead to a speedier at least for these games in the west. But like i said still no information on unfortunately. The last thing that they talked about was not briefly. Mentioned this last time the natto. noca- seki game. That is coming out in japan for For playstation four. This was the old Two thousand twelve least. Psp action rpg though some new details and images kinda showing the ps p version versus the Ps four version of it They're sent opposites gonna run at sixty frames per second on. Ps four with more vibrant graphics. Not being obviously these are things that you'd want to have updated from an old old system user interface options One thing that i thought was very interesting. And i'm not to say what they say. This game is not connected to the trails game. However the main character's name is now utah herschel now you trails players especially cold. Steel will know towa. Her last name is hershal So what they're they say there's no connection but then there's a connection is the protagonist and a boy from that island who attends and academy in saint elise. Those aren't you know aren't names that i recognized the from the trails series so it is very very interesting and i would be would like to know what that connection is at kind of read through it. You can read through the tales. Like i said before i am lower on the percentage scale To say of this game was actually going to make it over here or not. I if i if you say your day is gonna come today out outs. Action say no but would just have to wait and see. The original game did not look super impressive. So this isn't a game that i'm all that excited about to begin with but we'll have to. We'll just have to wait and see if that indeed happens for a lot of switch owners the next. Gop g they will more than likely be picking up is going to be bravely default to gain closer and closer to that february twenty. Sixth rolled wide release date friend square annex released new trailer for it albeit in japanese and have still not seen an english version of this yet so it talks all well. Supposedly it talks about wiz walt. The country established by those mejia's. They did it themselves to studies. The magic research institute But the the real kicker with this one and you can see it. Is this places overgrown. It looks like it was built kind of in the middle of it are on top of a giant tree. And there's just this tree just going right up through entire town is really cool again Trailer is how long was trailer of about three and a half minutes. Like i said in japanese so you can't really tell what's going on but it is kind of cool to see some of the visuals in action Four it but if you're elected shake those game out for yourself you can check out the demo for it It is now live on the east shop and One who feels the demo before its release will even pick up one hundred mine. Intendo platinum points here is the Short official description of the demo experienced the games at risk and reward system character strategy and stunning visuals in the latest braley default to final demo in this demo. The games four men characters are already other journey with jobson abilities at their disposal. I downloaded this. The other night. as if getting the switch away from my kid was hard enough with minecraft previously The kid did pretty good for Christmas and her birthday. And i now had to contend with her own copy of animal crossing so she and my wife can play two switches and who copies of animal crossing so they can will each other's islands. I know she also got the Spyro trilogy which. I really enjoyed those games growing up. So i can't wait to play those with her and relive those moments and she picked up mario maker to so. I'm not seeing that switch for a while. Maybe once she goes to sleep. If i don't have anything to play eck fired that demo. I would like to see how it is shaping up as will If you've got some free time and you're looking for d'you monster hunter rise. There are to say ten videos in total. Let's do a little no here. One two three four seven eight nine ten eleven twelve. There's twelve total. So i check. They were they were released in two packs. I take them all and made them into six long. Because it only about a minute minute long. So if you're one to check out some of the different weapons they go into monster hunter rise. You can do that going from Things like the switch axe gun lance hammer sorted shield heavy light bogue gun. Land is long swords and even the hunting horn. You check all those out over on our youtube channel. J rpg report dot com. You can also see a new second official trailer for the action. Rpg magnum lord Still no western released on this one yet. It is coming out in japan on march. The eighteenth for playstation four and switch said. This is the second trailer for the game. It looks pretty cool. I do hope that they bring this one. Over is from publisher. D three Developer felicia quite heard of them before. But still no word on it. I really hope they bring this over because it does pretty fun but yeah nothing Nothing quite yet. i'll go over some of these ones. That are just videos. There's a fifteen minutes of new footage from christ tales. This is previewing the present and future game play of it Remember this game got pushed back to early. Twenty twenty one. That's just the winner that don't into it's been Hit with a couple delays here lately. Not sure how much. Everything's pandemic related at this point but how much they just wanna fine tune things in. How much is really needed to make this work. Obviously you're doing with a system of past present and future while stuff can go wrong and working Just the way that you would like it to work New genesis the fantasy star online. To almost say reboot but definitely the new version of there is the opening movie for it and you should probably check this out. If we're looking at over fifty minutes of new footage as well mostly the character creation for its but this opening movie You know typically when you see these opening movies. They're using a pre rendered scenes. This was actually created using parts of the in game graphics. Engine which looks amazing Definitely if you're looking forward to this you should check it out sometime in twenty twenty. One is the release date Four it but again. This is one of those. Well not one of those but this is the faa gain. That i'm kind of just don't understand why it's not on playstation four. In the west it is in japan. But you've got to either play on xbox or on pc here in the west doesn't make a ton of sense but there's just things like that in this world that we gotta kinda get used to them. I guess we got three bits of sky news this week. i is. You can check out the fourth official trailer for six defiance of destiny I believe there's an english. There's an english version for this out. Now you can check it out. There was originally came out. There was just a japanese version but the english version shows off of really cool voices that they've got for the game. They got some good voice. Talent in this one in Very fitting for the series especially the little reincarnated pug services is awesome It's about seven or review of the game If you are curious about what's going on in this one changes that they've made this series. You will definitely want to check it out. Of course it doesn't come out in the west until summer. Twenty twenty one. Japan is going to get it in right about a month on january. The twenty eighth The other day actually. This was on christmas eve that this news broke New punchy released some new information screenshots for the game featuring and i hope i get these names right la haro aetna and flown Those were the original characters from the original the sky and they are saying that Basically once you beat the game you can Play a scenario with these original characters in it so kind of a you know. They're not in the main game this something post post content but the fact that they're in their would open the door to other characters popping up from other games as well. So that's a cool thing The world inside of an item. I m worlds have mended. Detailed in this article on worlds are divided into several fours slash layers and the items level increases with every four. That you clear says weapons become stronger as they level up. You can clear there either. Worlds to power them up once. An item is leveled up. You can get the same item at the same level from then on pretty cool feature of the sky series all these images i took input into a slide show. You can check that out on our youtube channel so you can dispatch companions into item worlds to research them. There's a new team attack system with up to ten characters in it. That's a pretty cool feature. New enemies were detailed There's a new horsemen. That's pretty crazy. So here's the Previous protagonist Oh here we go says not only will hear from. Our doctors appear the protagonist in heroines of the sky. Two three four and five will also appear in three d. The protagonist and heroines wilburs as downloadable content sometime after the launch of disguise six. So there's a from the sky to or i don't know in timika these pronunciations. I'm at risk of offending people. I understand how they're supposed to be pronounced So yeah they're gonna add them in there as as post content deal see. That's the type of thing. Like i would think you'd be okay with paying for because that's obviously not a part of disguise six. They are previous games characters in new content. So take how you feel about. Dlc that is that's one thing i think is is no k To do speaking of all those previous disguised characters they are all assembled in the rpg. Mobile game And we got news from bolt chain games that they will release worldwide the mobile version the sky arc in spring. Twenty twenty one Unless you're in these countries in the no fast if you are but we are a western primarily focused podcasts. So you're not going to get in china taiwan hong kong macau singapore malaysia or korea Sorry don't i don't know why maybe that is. Just it's gonna come out later. Maybe there's some rules preventing that From happening if we're interested in getting it on a closed beta for the game. They will have one for canada. Brazil australia and the philippines sometime in january so really happy to see this thing go worldwide. There was a global announced trailer for it This came back It came back in march of twenty nineteen in japan. Had a whole bunch of issues with it and It was de definitely the this game was deadly responsible for some financial hardships for nippon ichi. And they finally got up. Right obviously gotta writes the point. Now they're really to bring this thing out worldwide As far as the gotcha game or not. I don't know if i recall. I think it was paid game. But i should probably ended up before speaking about it. But i'm sure there's elements in there but hopefully this is a Not another one of those kind of like. We've we've like. We've got enough of those already know ankara today. If i get a bunch outpouring of support here after listening to this. I may reconsider. Dx and the They were supposed to come on japan on february twenty eighth. they have been delayed until march fourth. Twenty twenty one in japan. So if and when a western. What's going to happen for that. it's now going to be About five weeks later. Ps four switch and pcv steam win. They are released whenever that is sort. Online alsatian lakers got version one point to update it is now available and it adds a simone's ancient apostles story of course over various user interface online system battle improvements bugs fixed in addition to those two that new ancient apostles. All these games coming out here in the near future. I've got one last. Colts deal for Often not had time to play here lately. I think just hit or maybe just shy of one hundred hour mark. So i've still got a good thirty to forty hours to go hopefully make it in time to Play roz a two day one but we have to wait and see that game just keeps on keeps on going but Going to be is going to be tough. I'm really going to have to search my feelings. That i think is flowing anything to if it's going to be found pacers. Seven remastered or a remake rather or four. It's it's really tough there. There's my heart says one thing amonte says another and there's different things to have to consider overall ought to make that final decision here real soon on what that What was looking forward to our thoughts here are coming out this week on. Kyle duncan beckett. Reclaiming Black Culture in 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom'

"Played by chadwick. Boseman as the young trumpet player levy colman domingo cutler michael potts as slow drag and glenn termine as toledo. We also meet mas young lover. Desi may play by taylor page and her nephew sylvester played by deuce on brown. I want to just dive right in joel. You said you were very excited to talk about this coming what you thought. Oh my gosh linda. I loved it like it's hard to put into words how much i enjoyed it. And all of the reasons but chadwick boseman this be his final performance. Jeff estates think recently denzel washington in an interview said that like he didn't lose anything we lost him this idea that he gave everything he had to give while he was here. This for me is probably his magnum opus. His great work his his final statement. To wasn't he left us a lot of really great. If you look at all the roles he's chose in the last like three to four years. All of them are about conclusions and about wrapping things up. This one is so much more about like the hurt and pain. You have to just go through as a black person just to exist in this country and it's profound and gorgeous and the way we'll shoots this. I struggle a lot with theater to film translations. Because it's like theater it's so meant to be experienced in person and sometimes dial it doesn't quite work and particularly when they're monologue like you have a hard time like this doesn't feel real because it's not it's theater if you don't have to live in same kind of rules that film often does but when we'll takes his camera at a high angle as chadwick boseman is giving this like very revealing monologue. You're able to stay in it because you're sort of. It feels almost more in his head. It's more conversations having with and it captures. I think what is so hard to translate between these two mediums. And i love it and then on top of all that colman. Domingo like if you're making a movie just put colman domingo you cast anyone else in any other will ever a silent killer in everything that he does. And it's so profound. I love his in bad movies. I love his work in great. I love coleman doing and here he just continues that check and then they leave is crowns. It all off by just being great and showing up and her vocal performance away. She drinks coke. Makes you wanna die. It's a seven. I love performances. I like live live for like actors being able to nestle into character and create something that is so alive and vivid. No one in the cast isn't doing that. It's nearly a perfect soga. Yeah stephen thompson. What did you think. I love this movie. Too i think the central performances by chadwick boseman and by viola davis are so beautifully done. I do think there are a lot of parallels to be drawn between this film and fences which one viola davis and oscar that has also adapted from an august wilson. Play and both films are really so centered on the performances. They are really showcases for actors more than there necessarily like show willie directed big epochs. There are focused on the performances. I think that theatre film translation does trip them both up a little bit. Where they're so focused on the performances. They don't flow as naturally as they might. This there are points in this film. That felt a little bit stagey to me. But at the same time those performances are glorious. As joel said that chadwick boseman performance is is titanic. I mean it is a oscar clip e speech -i big performance. I think we cannot underestimate. How great this viola davis performance is. It is a quieter performance. She's doing so much work with just like kind of heavy eyelid. Look at a character will just is just searing. She is fantastic film and like joel said colman. Domingo is great. Glenn is great as toledo. I loved this film and as you would expect it just weaves music in beautifully. Yeah all right. I asia. Let's go to you next to you.

The started coming out also. I'm catching up. Some shows for sure so so thankful for sint reruns in syndication that. Are you italy available for viewing thankful for good memories. Call it that you know like you nicole. I'm thankful for technology that we have including zoom because one of my favorite shows as i've mentioned before is impractical jokers and they've been doing episodes from home where they're just having a dinner party but they're all at their own homes and doing a video call an so instead of them. Doing like challenges that they normally do for their shows are doing it. Kobe style and they're at home just having dinner parties. So i'm thankful for. I guess the technology we have nowadays to still have shows like that running in times like this and then just in general obviously thankful for my health Family and everything else that people are usually thankful for. Yeah and you mentioned import. Dang like the technology that we all have this year that even though we can't be together like zoo so thankful for zoo and just google hang outs and all that stuff like i did hear that. Usually i think sue has a forty minute limit for their videos and that they're removing not for thanksgiving day so that families can spend time together so like i know my husband and i. This'll be our first year that we're not going anywhere for thanksgiving. We're just going to be the two of us at our dog and our cat and a zoom call. I tell like we tell our families like it's just not shove you're comfortable this year doing it but like my grandma's like oh i would love to video chat. I've never done it each me. Zoom call for thanksgiving and my husband irish. Sheriff we're gonna like go get actual thanksgiving food or if we're just gonna get a pizza or something like that but yeah that'll be. That'll be different thanksgiving back thankful for sure and now the ways that we can stay connected. I'm hoping to get some really good mac and cheese for thanksgiving 'cause you like you can't go honestly like look and for those who are listened thanksgiving you know you gotta have all the great things on the table. And if you don't have mac and cheese you need to go back to the store because you cannot leave al mac and cheese and when you make cheese better not be basic it..

The masked singer yup. Oh my gosh. it's so good so it's a bunch of celebrities. You don't know their identity but every week before they perform they give new clues as to who their identity is. The character with the least amount of votes will be voted off that week and then the judges will have their final. Guess as to who these celebrity under the mask is and then at the end. "Put people against each other but obviously you know this is good for the ratings is good for people because we as humans we love dramas unfortunately but don't seem like they kind of made up or absolutely absolutely this past episode. I sat down and watched al-qafila washed a lot of memories and clips uncle phil aka james. Avery those who don't know resident peas field so he he was a gray mill role model net showing you know will smith now really having a father coming up you can tell like those things are actually pretty real. I don't know if you guys if you laid it every wash the i've seen here and there it was seen on there. Where will smith father actually was like in and out of his life and there was one particular scene where he came in. he's supposed to take will on a trip with them in l. Yeah he bailed on him. You know what. I mean like to be real you guys in our research on it. That ending of the scene was all real like that wasn't scripted. At all those tears in everything was it was it was. Oh for sure. that's much. Get a good cry out definitely. Check it out getting a year. Let's see what else happened this week. We talked about it in the fan group. So shout out to everybody in the pop culture junkie support group And i want to hear your guys opinion on it Michael jordan named people's sexiest man alive. I don't have no coming on it. I mean it was his time. Come in right. I mean from jungle fever over their own my roll onto the next conversation. W shaw no. I think it was very well deserved. I mean if we're talking a few years back. I love love love country music but blake shelton all like on I mean come on. I don't think he's very sexy but absolutely not. He's like their own. He's like a hardboiled egg like dipped in mayonnaise. Like yeah for real wins. The funding probably thinks differently. But if you're listening. Gwen sorry not sorry. Gwen true that you just say dipped in many cases a hardboiled egg with like as on top like he. He seems like he's the kind of guy who thinks that ketchup is too spicy. Like is okay. That's from him jordan and his big mustache facial hair. yes yes absolutely absolutely. I'm a fan of his acting. So there's no shade or anything. I'm a big fan of a creed. I love this kill longer. We did have this discussion on in the group. To about other iconic mustaches. Did you get that conversation nicole. I didn't but someone literally just popped in my head. She's just kick as she's really like sassy and she's a scientist and she has a hot hardworking husband and i. She builds all the machinery. Everyone looks good in a bunny outfit. What more could you want a woman. Our probably say my's would have to be a go. Of course i was a big fan will somewhat of a fan of geeta vicini idea like piccolo even had the video game as a kid too. So dot com. Now i love her geeta he's cranky and angry and got the devos him and voice pick lower the same after all that yet so what is up with a pop culture news this week. My junkies we talked about the fresh prince reunion Last week's episode. I believe just kinda teased. Did you actually watch it. Did anyone actually watch it now. I don't have hbo. Max actually did get to like check it out. And i must say like i did not expect so much emotions to be involved throughout the show but like when you when you think about it like those guys onset like you. Bill relationships in year round each other every day is almost like rome as you know what i mean so just to see like just to see them interacting. Not only that. I think the biggest topic out of this Reunion so far has been with. Will smith in janney hubert not talking for thirty years. Which is like it's crazy. Crazy to me and i'll wash the interview. I damn it was. It was real nothing about that conversation. They had was faked like off blind and she was corner heart out he was pointing his heart out tears being shed in our man. This is amazing. Like amazing to see in like just for her to. I think the biggest thing was just miscommunication miscommunication eagles. And you know will. Smith was like very young at the time. He was in his prime. You had a lot of great things going on movies. And not only with that franchise of fresh prince. Oh and janet. She was a little older susan. Our thirties early thirties. Coming in and it was just miscommunication. Economy hurt her career lot. You know being net. They kind of tried to make her into the bay guy even like the limiting her time of being on the show but i think the best part of it was just him being able to come together with some understanding have laughs and just be like it is what it is but let's move forward in a positive way and but the only thing that i hate media always china to twitchy in a make same like to.

"He's an incredible actor he can turn it off and all like that like this is ridiculous like just watching a movie. Ours is like damn. I've heard of it before. This is kinda action but is like a story plot. Because he's like the good guy and he gives people the opportunity to do the right thing because he catch people in action like doing some dumb shit like far as crooked cops and things like that and like he would like he's so calm like imagine getting com as is bed is unreal like so i was watching it and now we have the title of the episode. It was crazy. I even take my mom mom. Have you seen this unique to watch it on netflix. It was. I was watching a youtube tv provider. Gray service shimozuma. So maybe i'll give that a watch this week me. And she's like for new movies to watch for sure. Gerry cole would've been watching this week. Nicole i moved this weekend. So i haven't really been watching much. Tv but the other day. I watched The other day watched alone for the first time this year on the yes yes And then what else So we were getting. Our cable switched over so then i watched nailed it the baking show on netflix. Oh yeah so. I watched i binge watch that because there was nothing else to do. The holiday won a yeah. Yeah it was holiday. Won't say we're doing like a hanukkah deigned cake so that was fun. But i'd love to be on that show. Yes it would be so fun. Gannett secure a good cook. I mean i could bake like the things that are on there. I don't think i could bake booby fun to try. So it's a great show. I let i did like it. So if you're looking for a new baking show. I would definitely check it out because it's not your typical baking show where they're actually good at picking and creating cakes. That's more random people off the street. They pick that they put on the show to get ten thousand dollars at the end. And you know. I can use ten thousand dollars. I'm gonna nominate you for it. I'm going to wait. Somebody moco when you come over when whenever we hang out for it or star wars night. Maybe you should like baker. Something i can make you something. Please make it. Who Was George Fredrick Handel

"Welcome back to another episode of five minutes in Church history. On this episode, we're talking about a composer George, Frederic Handel and I resist the urge to have upon here and say that we going to get a handle on handle. But let's get a handle on hindle. He was born in sixteen, Eighty five in Hallo- Germany the importance of that year is it was the same year as the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach sixteen eighty five was a great year for the birth of composers apparently, and now Bach to handle and I promise. I'm done with punts. Well handle was originally set to be a lawyer but he loved music and he quickly showed his prowess as an organist and at composing, and so he said off to be a musician. He spent some time traveling around Italy and then he was musician for the elector of Hanover. Now, the importance of the elector of Hanover was that he was the heir to the throne of England and when Queen and died childless the elector of Hanover became King George the. First of England handle moved with him to London and the year was seventeen off and from then on hand spent the rest of his life in Britain, and he's while born in Germany and German descent is known as an English composer under George. The first t founded the Royal Academy of Music, which he directed for fifteen years early on in London Handel composed for King George the first his famous water music or as in handles beloved German Tongue vassar music. The first time it was performed for King George loved it so much. He ordered it played again and then he ordered it played again. So debuted three times in a row in seventeen seventeen. After. He finished his time handle finished his time at the Royal Academy of Music. He spent much of the Seventeenth Thirties writing operas, and then he said about to write what might be considered his magnum opus the Messiah. Handel. was by all accounts obsessed with work. We would say today a workaholic and he poured himself into his work as a composer as a musician. Sadly in seventeen fifty one he went blind and then in seventeen, fifty, nine, the age of seventy four he died in, London? He was buried in Westminster Abbey and of course, the grand organ of the Abbey and the choir played his beloved. Messiah. Handel one said I should be very sorry if I only entertained them referring to the people who listen to his music, he wanted people to not only be entertained but to beat moved by his music and that was certainly the case with the Messiah. The Messiah was first performed in Dublin on April thirteen, seventeen, forty two it was performed the next year in London and King George the second was in the audience attending and when he got to the chorus for part to the Hallelujah Chorus King George, the second was moved that he stood up, and of course, when the king stands everyone else stands in. So the whole theater stood alongside of the king and that started tradition of standing during the Hallelujah course. The Messiah is in three parts. Part one begins with prophecies of the. Coming Messiah from Isaiah and Psalms, and takes us right to the shepherds watching their flock at night on Bethlehem's hillsides. Then part two covers the passion, the suffering in-depth of Christ and ends with that Hallelujah course part three picks up with Christ's resurrection and continues with his ascension and what theologians call his present session in glory, and then it ends with the day of judgement to come as the Messiah the king comes in glory. Well, that is Handel's Messiah and when he was finished writing the musical score, he signed it s D. G. Solely Dale Gloria.

Photography Book Recommendations

"I love it. When readers asked me a specific question that. I haven't really given a lot of thought to because it causes me to have to think and to share things with you. So here we go. Here's an email I received dear, Brooks I hope you don't mind if I ask for a bit of your time but I'm just beginning photography and looking for some good books to take my work to the next level I'm not talking about technical stuff. That's all over the place it Amazon. But I'd love to find something more like your podcasts on the creative side of photography. Can you recommend some good books I should read? This is from a reader named Darrell. Will Darrell that is a fascinating question. and. It caused me to have to go back into my library and really look at. The books that I own I, probably have at last count about five thousand books in my personal library on art and photography. And you know. How do you narrow that down? But nonetheless, your email prompted me to do so and I think I've got a list here that I would be comfortable in recommending of feel a little guilty in little hesitant because. There are so many books that I didn't put on the list that have been influential in my photography. But I think all of these that I'm about to share with you or ones that you could develop a really solid foundation for your creative life with the ideas that are encapsulated in these books. And I've divided the list into two groups well, three groups really but. Mainly the two groups are the five short book recommendations for All photographers. And then I felt like I wanted to put together a list of longer books that need. Study as that are probably the kind of thing that will take decades to really absorb because they're bigger books but also because they have so many ideas. The five short books are ones that I think you could all approach fairly quickly and you would find them well worth your time. They're all relatively thin books, but as has so often been said be careful of thin books because they're dangerous once they are so distilled. To the essence of the ideas. That they're deceptively simple looking. But when you get into him, you find out that there's a tremendous amount of meat and potatoes, and that certainly exists with these five short books the first of which is. On being photographer by David Hernan Bill J I suspect many many of you listening podcast or already familiar with on being photographer partly because we published it. And you're already plugged into lens work through these podcasts. So you've probably heard of Bill J. and David hearn, his friend was magnum photographer. They approach me with the idea of having. US, published this book. Oh, Gosh twenty years ago now, and it's It's never been out of print since then it's just a terrific idea and a terrific book in this book, if you're not familiar with it, basically although build offers plenty of his opinions, he functions more as the interviewer for David and it's more like a conversation between these two lifelong friends about David's ideas about being a photographer and the pragmatics of being photographer not f stops and shutter speeds and not necessarily esoteric gallery stuff but just the life of being a photographer and what that's involved with and so many good practical ideas. So that's the first one again a thin book but packed with great ideas on being photographer, David Hurn and Bill Jay. The next one is same thing very thin book. It looked like you can read it quickly it will require the rest of your life to really understand it and it's called art and fear. By David Bales and Ted Orland Ted Orleans was pretty well known I. Think because he was an ansel Adams darkroom assistant early on and he's been around photography for a longtime David. Bayles also very smart guy the two of them have had a lifelong friendship and they put down their ideas about. The art life and the difficulties of the art life in this small book art and fear, but it is so packed with ideas.

Best practices for shooting with a view camera

"Not that I want to take all of you down another trip down memory. Lane. But I wanNA talk a little bit about view cameras which was the camera of my youth talk about Gear Acquisition Syndrome I. Think all of us who were interested in pursuing fine art photography in the middle of the twentieth century automatically turned our attention to view cameras because well, that was what ansel Adams used. That was what Edward Weston us that was what all the great photographers used. Except for cardiac or sawn and some of the Magnum photographers but I think a lot of sort of. Discounted that wing of photography is not really the same thing as fine art photography they were more photo journalists and they needed the speed and flexibility of thirty five millimeter equipment and good for them. But for those of us who are interested in, say, for example, landscape photography. Of you camera was the camera of choice but let's admit that hardly anyone uses a view camera anymore and I think for probably pretty good reason they are incredibly Fussy to use lots of little controls, lots of ways to mess up lots of ways to kick things slightly out of focus you can't use them quickly they demand that you use a tripod and they're difficult to set up and it. CETERA. So there's there's slow. They require precise camera manipulations critical focusing on the ground glass. They force you to slow down that that's really think the issue we live in the age of speed and quickness and multitasking, and all the rest of that view cameras force you to slow down. But you know that can be a virtue. As a matter of fact, there may be lots of virtues to view camera and we be able to borrow some of those virtues and use them with our new Yippee skippy digital tools if we really want to. For example, there's nothing that says you have to shoot at twelve frames per second burst mode you can slowdown. Slowing down gives us the opportunity to look and think and with a view camera. In fact, you don't have a choice you have to slow down and look and think, and I think that can actually lead to better photography. And again to compare that to today's cameras where it's all about burst rates and autofocus and instant posting to your social media firehose. I'm not convinced that all of that leads to photographic virtue. At least not when it comes to. Fine Art photography, which is supposed to be about depth of feeling and understanding and being able to share something. That's a little more significant than the glance of social media which I've talked about before. So I don't want to take more time today. But I. Guess. I would some all of that up by just saying that just because the camera is manufactured to be fast Doesn't mean we have to use it. Fast. So here's a few things that I think. We can borrow today from view camera techniques that might be perfectly applicable to digital cameras and the kind of photography we do today because of the virtues of the way it changes the way we work the way we relate to the things that are before the camera, etc the first and most obvious one. is the dark cloth. When you photograph view camera, the image on the ground glass is relatively dark, and so the only way to really see it well is to use a dark cloth and you pull it over your head and you cover the camera and yourself in this dark cloth, which separates you from the world, not only physically but to some degree. Psychologically certainly visually, and you can look at the world from a very narrow perspective when you use a dark law. Now in truth I'm such a trained view camera photographer that when I bought my first digital cameras in early two thousands, I use them with the dark cloth because it was so difficult to see those little teeny tiny LCD screens on. Those early cameras and they were so dark that in the song I couldn't see them at all. So I just used my view camera dark cloth and I found it at great way to not only see the screen and make sure I was composing correctly and all that kind of stuff but the psychological aspect of putting the dark cloth over my head. was such a transition in my internal chronometers. that a I had a a a switch of psychology from looking at the world to photographing the world that had been trained into me for thirty years with a view camera and I found that was a useful tool even though I was now shooting with a digital

Are we being CENSORED?

"Censorship the Suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, News, etc that are considered obscene politically unacceptable or threat security censorship. Of the press censorship of Photography, Censorship of the big stories of our time, it's not something I thought possibly in the so-called civilized Western society. We don't have that problem. Do we now? Of course not this is a country where we reveling being transparent. Some have argued that there's too much transparency and not enough privacy but privacy and censorship a two very different conversations. It's about time we talked about this with a guest in more detail is this is a subject that has been mooted a good few. Times in only a few months on this program in more than a handful of interviews, it's difficult not to politicize this discussion. But if we're going to start having more debate on it I'm certainly not going to be the editor who get squeamish about that Facet against busy censoring what a guest has to say on the subject Edmund Tara. Kobean is a well respected award-winning furhter journalist with decades of experience covering big stories in the UK and internationally, not just conversation starters but inform real discussion and decision. In fact, today and tomorrow episodes about just that pictures tell stories that need to be told with Pulitzer. Prize when Carl mcnaughton being tomorrow's commentator on the subject. Let's begin though with Edmund Tear copious and we're talking today about the necessity for change. But actually you have a very early story about change Hamen, you made a decision right from the start about direction you changed from medicine to making pictures and and I'm curious as to how that came about some Y. Yeah. It's but it's not quite as grand as that I never actually made to medicine I was. At the point of wanting to study medicine, the direction was going to be surgery I was fascinated by surgery. So that's that's what my goal was. That's where I was sort of headache. So I was already doing the relevant levels at high school chemistry body and so on. On Getting Ready to apply to do medicine I mean who knows if I would have been accepted or not but it's it was a kind of red at the beginning of my a-levels bullets a camera an ESA Larios it was the bottom of the range nick on a Nikon. And of course, prior to that I had an interest in photography. So this sort of interest was brewing brewing and getting bigger and bigger, and of course, as I was going through my early teenage years, sort of a expansion of mind and understanding of the world and history and news and paying more attention to what was going on. and also being able to start to digest visual imagery. That's when my sort of love of talk graffiti massively blossom. And that started right at the beginning of my of and that sort of continued and continued and continued to I reached a point where I thought. This is what I want to do. This is what I have to do. You know I want to be a photo journalist because I was so. Impressed by all the work that scene. But by this sort of work by these amazing photographers, mainly Magnum photos, photographers that was the sort of my main I chunk of education self. Education I. Basically go to the library comeback with a pile of books every every couple of weeks Some money out by a magazine or to to sort of read and yeah. That was my first sort of first education was magnum fighters, inverted journalism, and all of a sudden I realized this is the direction I want to go. You know it's amazing landscape photography, amazing portraiture fashion and saw. But as soon as I started getting into, it was one book that really kicked it off a book called in our time. by Magnum photos, photographers, and it's kind of became almost like a Bible. I just couldn't put that book down. and that sort of made me change direction. To my parents, this may one day I sort of came downstairs into the living room from my bedroom to. Delving into whatever books I was reading and I said, I've made a decision. I want to be a photographer by my parents just looked at each other sort of shook the heads and this son who went from wanting to be a surgeon all of a sudden wants to be. Photographer So yeah, that's that that was the change
